Chat with former USC QB John David Booty

Booty led the prolific USC offense for his final two seasons as a Trojan. In 2007, despite missing three games, he threw for 2,361 yards and 23 TDs. In his first full year as a starter in 2006, Booty passed for 3,347 yards and 29 TDs. Booty was a backup on the 2005 USC BCS championship team. He is the sixth-ranked QB according to Scouts Inc. and Mel Kiper's fifth-ranked QB.
According to Booty's Scouts Inc.'s draft profile, while Booty "might lack the physical skills to emerge as good starter in the NFL, he is the type of hard working, cerebral quarterback that could overcome the odds. At the very least, he should carve a lengthy career as a reliable backup. A team operating out of that offensive system should view Booty as a good value in the third-round range."

John David is here so send in all your questions!
John David Booty (11:56 AM)
Hey everyone this is John David Booty, here on the ESPN chat, let's get this thing started!
Os (Jersey)
JDB, did you get a lot of time during Senior Bowl week to talk to Mike Martz? If so, how would you feel about playing in SF?
John David Booty (11:58 AM)
We did get a chance to visit with the South coaching staff. But only for about an hour. I would love to play with coach Nolan and Martz in San Francisco. I think they are two really great coaches and they have a great chance to build a winning team once again in San Fran. I would love the opportunity to stay in California.
Cristian NYC
Hey JDB! Nice career so far. What's the one thing u learned from Pete Carroll that you will take with you to the NFL?
John David Booty (12:02 PM)
Competition from day one, that is all Coach Carroll preaches to the team. Our whole program is built around competing on a daily basis against some of the best players in college football. And because of the competition we go against Sunday through Thursday it prepares us for winning on Saturday. So that competitive edge is what I will bring to the NFL, and I will bring a mindset to compete against the best. I want to get right in the mix. Everyone is the best at the next level.
Tim (Cali)
Would you have beaten LSu in the national title game?
John David Booty (12:02 PM)
I am not sure, since we did not make it. But the way we were playing at the end of the season I think we would have had a chance against anyone. GAUX HESTER!
Jake (Syracuse)
David, which NFL quarterbacks do you compare yourself to?
John David Booty (12:04 PM)
Matt Hasslebeck is one guy I would like to comapre myself to. I think we have a similar game. He is in a West Coast offense like I was at SC, so that makes it easy to compare myself to him.
Brad (Gadsden,Alabama)
Who was your fav. team and player growing up?
John David Booty (12:05 PM)
The Dallas Cowboys of the 90s were my team, and Aikman and Favre are the two guys I enjoyed watching.
George (LA)
Which Pac-10 team talks the most trash?
John David Booty (12:06 PM)
I think UCLA last year was as bad as I ever heard.
Willie (Portland, OR)
What was your most memorable/favorite game?
John David Booty (12:07 PM)
I think it had to be beating Michigan in the Rose Bowl last year. Being able to comeback after our loss to UCLA was important, and give the type of performance we gave.
Steven (tulsa)
which would be better for you in the NFL, to start right away or to sit and learn from the bench?
John David Booty (12:08 PM)
I would like to play right away, but if you look at the QBs in the league right now who are successfull, except for Peyton, most of them sit out a year or two before they start.
Allison Kelly
Who is your favorite QB to watch play?
John David Booty (12:09 PM)
I still love watching Brett Favre. Who knows if he is coming back, but he is one guy I really enjoy watching, even when he was in college.
Steve-O
Where did you like to hang out in Cali?
John David Booty (12:10 PM)
Usually in my off time I would head down to Hermosa Beach.
Zach Tynor
Did Coach Carroll every play a practical joke on you?
John David Booty (12:11 PM)
Not on me, but he did on the team several times. You guys may remember the throwing the dummie off of the building incident with Lindell White.
SprungOnSports (Long Island)
What would you say to the people that label you as someone who can only succeed at the pro level in a West Coast offense?
John David Booty (12:12 PM)
Everybody has the right to their own opinion. But I do not think that is the case. I feel by knowing the West Coast offenswe that I can learn any other offense that may be different.
JB (Shreveport, LA)
Do you still keep up with the football scene here your hometown? Calvary, Evangel, etc...
John David Booty (12:13 PM)
Yes I do. Mainly because my little brother was the QB at Calvary last year. But really they are the only team that I follow.
Adrian (Libertyville IL)
What is the most important thing when getting ready for the draft?
John David Booty (12:14 PM)
To me its just about getting ready with my coach and knowing what to expect from mini camps. Really it is about getting ready as far as what to expect with the coming events.
Jordan (Slinger, WI)
John Daivd: What will you miss most about the college experience?
John David Booty (12:15 PM)
Just being arounf campus. I am already missing it. Not so much the classes and lectures, but being in the locker room with the guys.
SprungOnSports (Long Island)
Have any of the former USC QB's given you advice on the predraft process?
John David Booty (12:16 PM)
Yes, me and Matt Leinart talk quite often. And the one piece of advice he has given me is just to enjoy it all and not get caught up in what round you may go, or to which team.
Jordan (Slinger, WI)
What is your favorite pre game meal?
John David Booty (12:17 PM)
Lasangna.
Bill (Maywood NJ)
Do you think SoCal will compete for the BCS Championship in 2008?
John David Booty (12:17 PM)
I sure hope so! As long as Pete Carroll is there they will always have a chance.
Brian (Seattle, Wa)
John, What is the loudest stadium you have played in?
John David Booty (12:18 PM)
This past season I would have to say Nebraska. I could not even hear myself talk.
Harold (MI)
Are you going to drop the three names in the NFL and go with John Booty?
John David Booty (12:18 PM)
Nope, don't plan on it.
Nathanael (KC)
Would you be interested in joining the Bears?
John David Booty (12:19 PM)
Yeah.
John David Booty (12:20 PM)
I would love to be in Chicago.
Zach (Hartford, WI)
Do you feel any pressure living up to the standards set by recent USC QB's in the NFL?
John David Booty (12:22 PM)
I look at it just like anything else, it is a challenge. I had it at USC, and I will have it again in the NFL.
Pete C (Newark DE)
What teams have shown interest in you ?
John David Booty (12:23 PM)
Atlanta, Jacksonville, Minnesota, Green Bay, and Kansas City.
John David Booty (12:24 PM)
