Chat with former Tennessee OG Eric Young
![]() |
Young started 23 of the 33 games he played in while at Tennessee. He started 21 straight games before suffering a season-ending injury in the eighth game of his senior year. He was a part of the Tennessee offensive line that allowed just four sacks.
According to Young's Scouts Inc.'s draft profile, Young "has longer arms and does a good job of using them to steer pass rushers. Displays adequate initial pop with hand punch and has a strong upper body...Young possesses the short-area quickness and upper body strength to develop into a solid all-around starting guard in the NFL, assuming he fully recovers. Young is a good value if available in the fourth round."
Send in your questions now, then join Young on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. ET!

Eric Young (1:10 PM)
Hello this is Eric Young from the University of Tennessee. How is everyone doing?
Mike (Charlotte, NC)
What NFL offensive guard would you compare yourself to?
Eric Young (1:11 PM)
Ruben Brown from Chicago. We are about the same size and we have a smilar game.
Matt Lawson Athens Ohio
Which SEC team/player(s) that you played against gave you the toughest time or had the best pass rush scheme? What team/coach would you most want to play for?
Eric Young (1:13 PM)
Derrick Harvey, he's a great player and pass rusher. We battle against one another. Herm Edwards. He's a great motivator.
Travis (Knoxville, TN)
Who has been the toughest defensive lineman that you had to defend against?
Eric Young (1:14 PM)
Two years ago Clark Rowe from LSU. He had a great first step.
April (Atlanta, GA)
How are you improving on your technique to become a better pass blocker?
Eric Young (1:15 PM)
I'm working with a strength guy that was in the league for nine years. He's a guy that knows what it takes to play in the NFL and I think that will help me out a lot.
Kevin (Brooklyn, NY)
Why should you be drafted over another offensive guard?
Eric Young (1:16 PM)
I'm more athletic in pass blocking and run blocking. Moving from outside to inside has helped me a lot and put me ahead of others.
Scott (Hoboke, NJ)
How much pride do you have for playing for the University of Tennessee?
Eric Young (1:17 PM)
Playing for Tennessee, there is so much tradition and pride. If I had to do it all over again I would pick Tennessee again.
Mario (New York, NY)
Do you think your injury will affect your draft status?
Eric Young (1:19 PM)
Anytime you have a injury there will be a question mark over your head. I try not to look at it from that standpoint. But I continue to be positive and hope for the best.
Brian (Pittsburgh, PA)
Hey Eric the Steelers need help at guard, how would you feel about playing for Pittsburgh? Thanks!
Eric Young (1:19 PM)
I will play for anybody. I just want to keep playing.
Joe (Maryville, TN)
What NFL teams have you talked to or what teams have showed interest in drafting you?
Eric Young (1:21 PM)
Kansas City and Buffalo. I talked to a couple of teams. Some teams you interview with won't draft you, but some do so you never know.
HANK-MORRISTOWN,TN
IS THERE A FAVORITE MEMORY OUTSIDE OF FOOTBALL YOU EXPERIENCED WHILE AT UT?
Eric Young (1:22 PM)
Graduating in December. Walking across that stage was a great feeling.
Scoonover (Knoxville, TN)
In your absence, what do you expect to see from the Vols offensive line in 2008?
Eric Young (1:23 PM)
Their a young team but I don't think they will miss a beat.
Risto (Bethesda, MD)
Any players that are currently in the NFL giving you advice or you keep in touch with from college?
Eric Young (1:25 PM)
My roomate from last year plays at Kansas City and a couple of other players. He is like my big brother. Arron Sears, we came in together, we partied together and he will be the best man at my wedding.
Jordan Mosely (columbia, sc)
Got any tips for a offensive lineman transitioning from high school to college?
Eric Young (1:27 PM)
It's hard. In college it's more of a demand with your school work. On the field, the game is faster. Technique wise, you have to work harder because you just can't knock people over anymore like in high school.
Eric Young (1:28 PM)
Thank you for letting me chat and I hope to see you on Sundays!
