The USOC is giving you one last chance to talk to all of the athletes before they go off to finish their training before the Olympic Games this summer.

Buzzmaster (11:06 AM)
Hey folks. We're still in the process of getting everything set up out here in Chicago! I think we'll be ready to go around 1 p.m. ET. Check on back!
Lindsey (OH)
What motivates you to stay so disciplined?
Cullen Jones (11:55 AM)
A lot of it becomes my coach. I've had great coaches over the years. I'm very determined to set a goal and reach it.
Erik (LA)
Why do you want to be an Olympian?
Cullen Jones (11:56 AM)
It's always been a goal of mine. I've always wanted to represent this country in some way and swimming is my way of doing it.
Paul (Connecticut)
What do you think about being able to have real Chinese food?
Cullen Jones (11:57 AM)
I've been to Shanhai and I've had real Chinese food. It takes a little getting used to, if you well. But the dumplings are awesome.
Ben, Denver
Are you worried at all about the air quality?
Cullen Jones (11:57 AM)
Not at all. I've already swam and swam well in Shanghai.
Hank (Miami)
How do you think you will prepare for the fact that you'll be competing in front of thousands and thousands of people live and millions and millions more on TV?
Cullen Jones (11:58 AM)
I try not to think about it. I try to remember the size of the pool hasn't changed, no matter how many people are there.
Brad (Gadsden,Alabama)
How long do you train a day for the olympics?
Cullen Jones (11:58 AM)
I train on a given day, 7 hours, including two water workouts, lifting and therapy.
Sam (Boston)
will there be any time for you to go do any sightseeing while you're over there? what do you want to check out?
Cullen Jones (11:59 AM)
After the Olypmics, most of the team can stay for a week. We get to do some sightseeing and just hang out. Not have the worries about having to perform. That's a lot of fun, being in another country.
Nick NJ
Will any of your family or friends be going out to China to watch you?
Cullen Jones (11:59 AM)
My mom and my aunt will be there. I'm not sure if anyone else is thinking about it.
Pete (New Jersey)
When did you first think that you could make the Olympics?
Cullen Jones (12:00 PM)
I was in college when the dream became real. But I'd always dreamt of it.
Kevin (Virginia)
If you could compete in another Olympic sport, what would it be?
Cullen Jones (12:00 PM)
I would say track and field. Probably run the 100.
fran (alabama)
What did you think of the protests surrounding the torch running?
Cullen Jones (12:01 PM)
I think that everyone is allowed to have their own opinions and views on certain subjects. I respect them for being diligent in what they feel. but personally, I am for the Olympics. I am training very hard to represent the US.
James (Chicago)
Be honest now...when was the last time you had something devilish to eat? Big bowl of ice cream? Pizza? how disciplined does your diet have to be?
Cullen Jones (12:02 PM)
I believe that with every great diet you must allow some indulgence. So probably, last night.
Kerry (Portland, ME)
What are your plans for from now until the Games?
Cullen Jones (12:03 PM)
Stay focused. Train hard. At this point, it's making sure I'm getting enough rest and recovery. My coaches really harp on how you recover from all the hard training you've been doing over the past couple of months.
chauncey (teaneck)
do you think that you could be a role model for other african americans to try the sport?
Cullen Jones (12:04 PM)
I think that's a title that I've been given in my position. I look forward to hoping to help that. The drowning rate is very close to my heart. With African Americans being 3% more likely to drown than any other race. I feel in my position I can help change that.
Blake (OH)
I know the goal is to win the gold but is making it to the Olympics enough for you?
Cullen Jones (12:05 PM)
For the first one. I think that I want to make the team and compete in my events and do well. As long as I reach my goals, then of course, it's good enough.
Adrian (Libetyville IL)
Is there anything we can do as a nation besides cheering you on that could help you? Care packages or anything?
Cullen Jones (12:05 PM)
There are a lot of ways to help out. Cheering is the most efficient way. I don't think the USOC will allow care packages.
DJ (MN)
Thank you for your hard work and dedication in competing at the Olympics for USA. Wish you all the luck and we as a nation are proud of you. We are all behind you.
Cullen Jones (12:06 PM)
I appreciate that. It's good to know that my goals are helping to encourage patriotism.
Cullen Jones (12:07 PM)
Thanks for the support. I'm doing everything possible to make you guys proud.
Cullen Jones (12:07 PM)
U-S-A!
Buzzmaster (12:07 PM)
Thanks Cullen!
Buzzmaster (12:08 PM)
OK, well we got off to a quick start here. I didn't think we were going until later, but Cullen gave us some time early and we couldn't say no!
Jeff (Iowa)
Got your pizza ordered yet, Buzz?
Buzzmaster (12:11 PM)
Not yet. By the time I got set up and ordered up the power outlet (yes, I actually had to put in a work order with the USOC event manager types) and tables (same deal), here I am.
Ryan (San Diego)
A little 9 am west coast mb love?
Buzzmaster (12:11 PM)
Hey, if I can show up for the MB on CT, you can show for it on PT.
Buzzmaster (12:12 PM)
Hey, we've got David Durante, US gymnastics!
Craig (Toronto)
How did you get into playing your sport?
David Durante (12:13 PM)
I was jumping around furniture in my house, my mom thought it would be better to put me in a gym than breaking her furniture.
Jake (Philly)
A lot has been made about the air quality issues in China. What inside knowledge do you have? Will the air be an issue?
David Durante (12:14 PM)
I was in China earlier this year for the Olympic test event. I saw it first hand. THe skies were blue while we were there. We had heard it was hazy. there was defrinitely a chemical smell while we were there. But because gymnastics isn't an endurance sport, it wasn't an issue for us.
Brad (Gadsden,Alabama)
What are you looking forward to at the olympics?
David Durante (12:14 PM)
Competing for my country and trying to represent the US in a way that my family can be proud of.
Neal (Washington)
What has your training been like?
David Durante (12:15 PM)
Pretty intense. We normally train 2-3 hours in the morning. Take a nap in the middle of the day. Go back for 2-3 at night. Then we have recovery time where we have trainers and therapists available to us.
Sam (Boston)
What's it like to go 4 years with little national fanfare, but then become famous almost overnight once the Olympics comes around?
David Durante (12:16 PM)
That's part of the deal with the olympics. Gymnastics isn't a popular sport, but we do it because the Olympics, to us, the greatest sporting event in the world. It is something it will stay with me for the rest of my life.
Greg (Utah)
Are you prepared to live college dorm room style in the village?
David Durante (12:17 PM)
I do that right now. I live in the training center in Colorado Springs. I graduated from college 6 years ago. It should be just like home living in the village.
Gary (Phoenix)
What's one personal item you're bringing with you to the Olympic village?
David Durante (12:18 PM)
My iPhone. No doubt. I have a sponsorship with ATT and I have a deal with free international service so I can call home without any worries.
Aaron (Florida)
Do you fear for your safety?
David Durante (12:18 PM)
Not one bit. It's not even something I'm worried about. I have a lot of faith in the US and what they're doing to protect us to keep us safe. As well as what China's doing. I don't think it will be an issue.
David Durante (12:19 PM)
Hello to everyone in Garwood, NJ. Thanks for all your support. I'm trying to make you guys proud.
Buzzmaster (12:20 PM)
Thanks David!
Buzzmaster (12:22 PM)
David said he hasn't broken any big furniture of his mom's. I was kind of disappointed.
Buzzmaster (12:25 PM)
We're trying to round up athletes here. It is crazy, there is media from all over the country and everyone wants a piece. I tried telling them that I'm Buzz and that didn't mean anything to them.
Buzzmaster (12:28 PM)
I was just informed that we'll have Kaitlin Sandeno, a swimmer coming by at 1:15 pm.
Jake (Syracuse)
Buzz, you should try and get Jenny Finch.
Buzzmaster (12:29 PM)
Yeah, I'm sure she has no one else that wants to chat with her. I'll do my best. Everyone wants a piece of everyone here.
Carl (Lansing, MI)
I wonder what some of the swimmers think of the new suit...
Buzzmaster (12:29 PM)
Interesting question. We'll have Kaitlin by later, I'll have to ask her.
Buzzmaster (12:30 PM)
You know you're in a different place when you're sitting in the hotel lobby and two people walk past you holding a very high-tech bow and a quill (that's what holds the arrows, right?) around their waist. That thing looked like it could kill a bear from half a mile away.
Carl (Lansing, MI)
How do i get to chat with the ESPN.com writer that is trying to make the olympics?
Buzzmaster (12:31 PM)
That would be Kathryn Bertine. Good question. We should get her in for a chat.
Ryan (San Diego)
Just hold up a sign that says...I'm kind of a big deal...people know me
Carl (Lansing, MI)
Are you going to ask any of their favorite pop-tart?
Buzzmaster (12:32 PM)
Next athlete that comes in, I will. Someone ask the question. I'll post it.
Jake (Syracuse)
Is anyone in between Kaitlin?
Buzzmaster (12:32 PM)
Yeah, I've got my minions out there. Our TV folks are talking with members of the women's gymnastics team. So we're hoping to have some of them up soon.
Carl (Lansing, MI)
I would rather chat with (over the internet) the people that can kill bears from a mile away than Jenny Finch.
Ryan (San Diego)
I dont know who any of these athletes are unfortunately. I will need a little info on what sport they play prior to sending in my questions. Thanks
Buzzmaster (12:34 PM)
I will try. But sometimes they come in fast and furious. Check out this link - USOC.org. You should be able to find the teams there.
Jake (Syracuse)
Since this isnt a video chat, i guess Carl.
Buzzmaster (12:36 PM)
It looks like we might have Misty May-Treanor, women's beach volleyball player in tomorrow as well as Brendan Hansen, a swimmer.
Ryan (San Diego)
How does one become a Buzz minion?
Buzzmaster (12:38 PM)
You don't really. That's just what I call them. I really don't have any minions. The ''minions'' I was talking about were the people I begged and pleaded with to help me secure the athletes for a chat.
Buzzmaster (12:39 PM)
I don't know who it is or what they're doing, but the work room next to ours is some sort of modeling agency or photo shoot group or something. They had racks of clothes in the room and they were talking about getting pictures of certain athletes.
Jake (Syracuse)
Misty May is a great athlete, how about Michelle Kwan?
Buzzmaster (12:39 PM)
Michelle is no longer an Olympian I believe. Also, this is kind of a Summer Games year.
Jake (Syracuse)
I went to the USOC site and got under winter sports, just realized that.
Buzzmaster (12:41 PM)
Jake, it's still early, so I'll allow it. However, if you were in Olympic training right now, I think your coach would be all over you.
Buzzmaster (12:42 PM)
Joy Russo, the ESPN.com Olympics/NHL editor just got a call from ESPN.com writer Jim Caple. He needed her to come to the hotel pool because he was going to get a synchronized swimming lesson from the US team and he needed Joy to film it.
Buzzmaster (12:43 PM)
The Olympics makes you do weird things, I tell you.
Adrian Libertyville IL
So Buzz will you spell check me first so I dont have the same issue as this morning?
Buzzmaster (12:43 PM)
I can't even spell check myself. I think I totally mangled some words up there.
Ryan (San Diego)
They have a huge olympic training center here in San Diego (Chula Vista actually). Been there a few times, is a cool place to kill a few hours and check out all of the facilities
Buzzmaster (12:44 PM)
Very cool. There's also one in Colorado that a couple of these guys have talked about.
Jake (Syracuse)
Thanks Buzz and yes my coach would be screaming at me. Beezie Madden the famous equestrian is from Cazenovia, only 25 minutes away from Syracuse. I never knew horses were big around here.
Jake (Syracuse)
Jim just wanted to see the team in there swimsuits, cant fault him for that.
Buzzmaster (12:46 PM)
I can't fault Jim on anything he does. He comes up with some good stuff.
Adrian Libertyville IL
Buzz are you filtering out RGR today or do we get to see his wonderful posts? And where is the overnight bin for the olympic chat?
Buzzmaster (12:46 PM)
I haven't seen RGR and frankly, I'm a little disappointed.
Buzzmaster (12:48 PM)
I just found out this morning that the triathlon was an Olympic sport. Apparently it has been for a while. Those guys are some crazy athletes.
Chad (Savannah, GA)
You should get the strenght/conditioning coach for the team. There would be some interesting questions.
Buzzmaster (12:48 PM)
Ooooh. Good one. Let me check my handy-dandy list here.
Buzzmaster (12:50 PM)
...hmmmm. There is someone here who's official title is ''Chief of Sport Performance for the USOC.'' That kinda sounds like strength and conditioning.
Chad (Savannah, GA)
You posted RGR from Vegas this morning.
Buzzmaster (12:51 PM)
Right, but there's been nothing in here. That's what I meant. So sorry for the confusion.
Jake (Syracuse)
Great fun fact here, Kaitlin has a tattoo of the Olympic Rings on her lower back, what can i say about that.
Buzzmaster (12:51 PM)
Good tidbit. Ask her about that.
Ryan (San Diego)
Any olympic soccer players there buzz?
Buzzmaster (12:51 PM)
According to my handy-dandy list....Kate Markgraf, Heather O'Reilly, Abby Wambach and Jozy Altidore.
Adrian Libertyville IL
What did you have for lunch? Gino's East?
Buzzmaster (12:52 PM)
I only want to go there if I can get to the original location. But I don't think that's terribly close to where I'm at.
Chad (Savannah, GA)
Golf and competitive eating should be Olympic sports.*
Buzzmaster (12:53 PM)
Yeah, that's kind of interesting on golf. Sort of surprised it's not. What would it be, though - match play? Stroke play?
Jake (Syracuse)
Chief of sport performance should have been keeping tabs on Marion Jones before her downfall.
Buzzmaster (12:54 PM)
Well, instead I think Marion Jones should just not have put needles into herself in the first place, chief of sport performance or not.
Marcus (Seattle)
With all the protests does Tibet even have anyone in the olympics? I would love to see a Monk do the 50 yard dash.
Buzzmaster (12:54 PM)
OK. Buzzmaster ignoramous question No. 1: Isn't Tibet a part of China? So, then they wouldn't necessarily have a team.
Buzzmaster (12:55 PM)
And here come all the posts about Buzz just being totally stupid in regard to world events........
Chad (Savannah, GA)
36 Holes of stroke play to get to the top 32. Then 5 rds of Match play for the Gold.
Buzzmaster (12:56 PM)
I like it. I will mention it to...(checking handy-dandy list).....Peter Ueberroth (head of USOC) and Jim Scherr (CEO of USOC).
Chad (Savannah, GA)
Just off the top off my head I believe you are right Buzz. Tibet is not its own country therefore cannot have participants unless they compete under the Chinese flag.
Mikeal(Atlanta)
Get Natalie Coughlin on today or have her on the HotList. She is by far the most talented and best looking athlete in the entire olympics.
Buzzmaster (12:57 PM)
She is on our wish list. I'm trying to work within the frame of the USOC's schedule. I really don't want to have to use the ''I'm Buzzmaster. I have floats. I'm kind of a big deal'' card.
Buzzmaster (12:58 PM)
The laughter would be too unbearable.
Ryan (San Diego)
Just do golf like college does it. Team of like 4 or 5 players, combined score over a 4 day tourney. I'm not sure that golf is developed enough worldwide though to have a full competitive field represented by many countries
Buzzmaster (12:58 PM)
Good point. Plus, who knows if the players and PGA Tour would approve.
Buzzmaster (12:59 PM)
By the way, and this is kind of a late observation, but David Durante's pythons were pretty gi-normous.
Marcus (Seattle)
We have people from Alaska and Hawaii compete. Not as a seperate state.
Adrian Libertyville IL
So we have someone who wants a Monk to do the 50 yard dash? Wow where do you find these people Buzz?
Buzzmaster (1:01 PM)
I have no idea. Let's move on..
Charlie (Blacksburg, VA)
What about Puerto Rico?...it's getting complicated
Chad (Savannah, GA)
Can people from Guam compete under the US Flag?
Buzzmaster (1:02 PM)
I think we're getting sidetracked.
Buzzmaster (1:03 PM)
It's freezing in this room.
DJ (Minneapolis)
Good Afternoon Buzz. I want to thank you for getting our wonderful athletes on to chat with us. What a great thing you are doing. (free trip to Chicago with great food and nice women) How does lady Buzz like the Windy City?
Buzzmaster (1:04 PM)
Hey, I do what I can. As for LadyBuzz, Chicago's probably her second favorite place, right behind The Buzz Mansion. LadyBuzz loves Chicago.
Buzzmaster (1:05 PM)
I feel like I'm wasting space here (Hey, no jokes from the peanut gallery). They've given us a room that's about 12 feet x 40 feet and right now it's just me in here.
Adrian Libertyville IL
Hey Buzz I am late for a meeting but can you do me a favor and ask the next athelete a general question for me. I will read the transcrips. Please ask them "How did it feel when you first realizied you were going to represent America to the world in Olymic Competition" Thanks Buzz
Buzzmaster (1:09 PM)
I can do that. Thanks for your participation.
DJ (Minneapolis)
Buzz what is the general feeling from the atheletes going to China? Scared? Nervous? Excited? Whats the buzz Buzz?
Buzzmaster (1:10 PM)
The athletes that I've talked to, in this chat and the other day is that they have not spent one second worrying about that. They are confident that they will be taken care of while they are over there. No doubt in their minds.
Marcus (Seattle)
Buzz I would suggest asking them about Olympic competition not Olymic.
Buzzmaster (1:10 PM)
Good point.
Ryan (San Diego)
There are no wastes of space only space wasters...nothing?
Chad (Savannah, GA)
When I read that you felt you were wasting space I thought you meant at ESPN not litteraly in the room you're in.
Buzzmaster (1:11 PM)
I guess it could be taken either way, huh.
Buzzmaster (1:12 PM)
My buddy Sam from the USOC just stopped in to say that we could be getting a couple of the synchronized swimmers later. I believe Kate Hooven and Kim Probst are the two here from that team.
Buzzmaster (1:17 PM)
Hold on. I'm taking a gander.
Ryan (San Diego)
(Buzz slowly peeks head out of the room of solitary confinement to take a gander at the people outside)
Buzzmaster (1:20 PM)
Nobody there.
Willie (Portland, OR)
Buzz, are they sending you to China so we can have Olympic chats every day?
Buzzmaster (1:20 PM)
I don't know. Haven't heard.........hold on....
Buzzmaster (1:21 PM)
Sorry. Just saw guys wheeling a food cart past to go set it up....anyway, me in China? Haven't heard anything. But outlook isn't good.
Jake (Syracuse)
Buzz, is Kaitlin still on in 10 mins?
Buzzmaster (1:22 PM)
Oh, sorry. That's CT time. I'm not giving into the East Coast bias while I'm here. It's 2:15 p.m. ET. HA! Tricked you.
Ryan (San Diego)
What sort of food was on this cart? Traditional Chicago hot dogs?
Buzzmaster (1:24 PM)
I think it was empty, so perhaps the food is already set up. Maybe I should go check it out.
Buzzmaster (1:25 PM)
Dang, the food cart wasn't for us common folk. It was for the break room for the volunteers.
Jake (Syracuse)
What are you doing to me Buzz?
Buzzmaster (1:25 PM)
Just trying to break down your East Coast bias walls.
Willie (Portland, OR)
Buzz, what are your favorite events to watch during the Olympics? Basketball, track and field, swimming, diving, gymnastics, etc?
Buzzmaster (1:27 PM)
Basketball, soccer. I do get into the swimming, because there are usually some records being broken. Track is usually pretty good. Water polo.
Buzzmaster (1:27 PM)
I like it because it's a chance for all these sports that don't get play to show what they've been training for. These people train their hearts out for 4 years without any fanfare to compete. It's fun to see.
Buzzmaster (1:28 PM)
I found out last night there's a family of three brothers - Jean Lopez, Steven and Mark Lopez - and one sister Diana who all made the Taekwondo team. Now that's a family I would never pick on.
Ryan (San Diego)
What the heck are the volunteers doing? They're not bringing the atmoshpere or a 1 on 1 chat with the athletes to the nation. I demand at least 3 of my tax dollars go to buying you a hot dog for your services
Buzzmaster (1:30 PM)
I'll take those 3 bucks and get me a hot dog.
Jake (Syracuse)
Dont mess with the Lopii of the Olympics
Buzzmaster (1:31 PM)
I think those Lopii can beat up the Stanford hoops playing Lopii.
Mike(Charlotte)
What's the weather like in Chicago today?
Buzzmaster (1:32 PM)
Chilly. High 30s earlier. And I'm in a room with no windows and no windows anywhere close by. Soooo, let's just pretend it's sunny out.
Willie (Portland, OR)
Buzz, I'm like you I think the Olympics bring out the best in people. I remember that track star from Great Britain who pulled his hammy, and we all watch as his dad helped him cross the finish line.
Joe (Huntsville,AL)
What time zone is China on? Do they also have a bias?
Buzzmaster (1:33 PM)
If I remember from the women's World Cup back in the fall, I think it was 13 hours ahead.
Buzzmaster (1:35 PM)
My computer has a huge East Coast bias. The clock is set to East Coast time and I can't change it.
Ryan (San Diego)
This is the year the US brings the gold home in basketball!
Buzzmaster (1:36 PM)
I was going to ask Coach K that, but he was whisked away, I hear.
Mike(Charlotte)
East Coast bias works for me
Mikeal(Atlanta)
As a frequent watcher of CNBC. They are about 13 hours ahead when we move time forward. They are 12 hours behind when we move time backwards.
Buzzmaster (1:36 PM)
Thank you sir.
Buzzmaster (1:37 PM)
When I was picking up my press credential last night, the athletes and media were all getting their passes from the same table. It didn't even matter if you recognized the athlete, you could easily pick out athlete from media member.
Jake (Syracuse)
USA, USA, USA Wheres all the athletes, are they eating right now?
Buzzmaster (1:38 PM)
They're at press conferences or photo shoots or talking to schmucks like me.
Buzzmaster (1:38 PM)
Or, at least other schmucks like me, because they haven't made it down to our end just yet.
Joe (Huntsville,AL)
But we're in now now, so what time does that nake it?
Buzzmaster (1:38 PM)
Soon.
Buzzmaster (1:39 PM)
There's a security guard walking around in a walking boot and a crutch. I guess I should rely on him to chase down anyone who tries to steal my manpurse.
Ryan (San Diego)
I hear Coach Karl was gathering his team for a late night cram session on how to play defense.
Joe (Huntsville,AL)
That should be the title of this chat. Schmucks Like Me.
Jake (Syracuse)
The US revolves around east coast timing, wonder what that tiny part of Maine does, there an hour ahead on Atlantic time
Buzzmaster (1:40 PM)
We've got Kaitlin!
Buzzmaster (1:41 PM)
Send in your question!
Marty (Chesterfield, MI)
What has been your ''Olympic'' moment?
Kaitlin Sandeno (1:42 PM)
Anchoring the world record relay that won the gold. And in 2000, my first time being on the podium for the 800 free.
Brad (Gadsden,Alabama)
How long do you train a day?
Kaitlin Sandeno (1:42 PM)
We train four hours in the water and another hour dry land. It's about 5 hours a day. We do that 5 times a week. The Saturday is 3 hours and sometimes Sunday's off.
Dale (Louisville)
What other sport would you like to be in the Olympics with?
Kaitlin Sandeno (1:43 PM)
I would like to play beach volleyball. More than anything ever. If they could get Wakeboarding in the Olympics, I would do that as well.
Jake (Syracuse)
Kaitlin, why did you get the Olypic rings tattoo? And why on your lower back?
Kaitlin Sandeno (1:45 PM)
I got the tatoo because I was 17 and I thought it would be cool. It is kind of a tradition that swimmers do. Most people that qualify get them. I wanted it in a place where I could hide it easily. But you could see it in a bathing suit.
Fred (Atlanta)
I'm guessing you have a strict diet when you're training. So, what's the one food thing you miss the most.
Kaitlin Sandeno (1:46 PM)
I do try to eat well while I'm training. But if I do want something I eat it. I have a soft spot for sweets. So send me some in China.
Greg (Utah)
is there another Olympian that you're hoping you can meet?
Kaitlin Sandeno (1:48 PM)
Any hot and single Olympians. (just kidding....kind of). The USA BMX team, because it's a new sport.
Henry (Buffalo)
what's the one thing you're bringing with you to the games?
Kaitlin Sandeno (1:50 PM)
If I do qualify, the one thing I will bring with is probably pictures of friends and family.
Don (NY, NY)
Are you anticipating having to swim a lifetime best just to make the team this summer in an individual event?
Kaitlin Sandeno (1:51 PM)
Definitely. I feel like this is going to be incredibly, insanely fast qualifying meet.
Willie (Portland, OR)
Do most swimmers have to get some type of part-time occupation, or are you able to sustain a modest living on swimming competitions and endorsements? Obviously I'm a little naive about the sport.
Kaitlin Sandeno (1:52 PM)
Good question. I am fortunate enough that I don't have to have a parttime job. Swimming is my full time job.
Gerald (Chicago)
what keeps you focused during training?
Kaitlin Sandeno (1:53 PM)
Your goals and desires. The desire to make three Olympics.
Craig (Toronto)
when did you start in your sport?
Kaitlin Sandeno (1:54 PM)
I was a water baby, since the day I was born. When I was old enough to be on the swim team, when I was 5. I didn't really get into swimming until high school when I decided that was the time to just swim.
Ryan (San Diego)
Do the other swimmers say to you..Tattoo on the lower back, might as well be a bullseye?
Kaitlin Sandeno (1:55 PM)
That is hilarious.
Stu (Providence, RI)
Have you been to China before?
Kaitlin Sandeno (1:56 PM)
Yes. I have.
Larry (Charlotte)
Do you think the air quality will be a problem?
Kaitlin Sandeno (1:57 PM)
Fortunately for swimming the venue will be indoors, so we have that advantage. I really think China wants to pull off an amazing Olympics. It's something you can't really worry too much about.
Josh (Vermont)
what will you miss the most in China?
Kaitlin Sandeno (1:58 PM)
My California King bed. And my family.
Kaitlin Sandeno (1:59 PM)
Thanks for your questions and support. Peace out.
Buzzmaster (1:59 PM)
Thanks Kaitlin!
Buzzmaster (2:00 PM)
She was hilarious!
Jake (Syracuse)
Whats you favorite sweet Kaitlin? Snickers is great and proboboly a sponcer right.
Buzzmaster (2:01 PM)
Jake. I got to say, you were creeping her out a little bit. Coming on a bit strong.
Jake (Syracuse)
I was just having fun Buzz, definitelky didnt wanna creep her out
Buzzmaster (2:05 PM)
Nah, she was kidding around.
Keith (MD)
With our swimmers, Maryland might pull out the most gold medals of any state Wohooo!
Mike(Charlotte)
Any lunch yet Buzz?
Buzzmaster (2:06 PM)
Not yet, but I think there is a break coming up for the athletes, which would be a good time for me to grab some grub.
Ryan (San Diego)
Jake, the way to a girl's heart is through humor, not creepiness over the internet. At least thats what I've been told
Joe (Huntsville,AL)
Do you find yourself sucking in your gut around the athletes Buzz?
Buzzmaster (2:08 PM)
Yeah, sticking the chest out a little bit more. Walking with a swagger. Trying not to breath too hard after taking a flight of stairs.
Jake (Syracuse)
Being a Olympic event, im sure they hooked up the food Buzz, you should be eating like a king today
Buzzmaster (2:09 PM)
What I really want to do is get out in the city and track me down some Vienna beef hot dogs and some pizza.
Buzzmaster (2:09 PM)
Also just got a reccommendation from my boy Graham Hays about Mia Francesca.
Keith (MD)
Break times are the best times to get the athletes so no break for you. sorry
Buzzmaster (2:10 PM)
From what I hear, the athletes are being put in lock down during that time, so they can actually eat.
Ryan (San Diego)
Chicago hot dog washed down with an Old Style beverage...sounds like a little bit of heaven
Mark (Chicago)
Does anybody have any thoughts on countries boycotting the opening ceremonies? I understand the reason but I still don't think it's right.
Guille (Indiana)
Buzz, you gonna make it to the Sox game today?
Buzzmaster (2:15 PM)
I was hoping to catch either the Sox tonight or the Cubs tomorrow.
Willie (Portland, OR)
Buzz, what athletes are in Chicago with you?
Buzzmaster (2:16 PM)
There are a whole bunch, but it's just carving out time to get them to chat. Their schedules are like Fort Knox - impenetrable.
Jake (Syracuse)
Who's next Buzz and if theres a time can u please say EST. Just jokin
Jeff (Iowa)
Did you bring any of the Get Buzzed in the Morning at ESPN.com t-shirts?
Buzzmaster (2:17 PM)
I forgot those. Thought it might be a bit tacky. Well, that and I haven't had any printed up yet.
Mikeal(Atlanta)
It is just empty talk boycotting the opening ceremonies. They are just trying to save face with the home country and rest of the world. Anyone want to make a statement the boycott the entire olympics. Otherwise they need to shut up about what happen in China. As I said it is just empty talk.
Buzzmaster (2:19 PM)
There was a guy from ESPN The Magazine in the room talking with a professor who has written a book about Olympic boycotts. I overheard him asking the professor about how it hurt the team. I guess it really hurts the team that boycotts.
Jake (Syracuse)
Like Herchel Walker said, the opening ceremony made him cry, thats the countries entrance into the games, if you boycott that, you might as well just boycott the whole thing.
Jeff (Iowa)
Just read back through the transcript, and I agree with Kaitlin in her assessment of Jake.
Buzzmaster (2:20 PM)
Kaitlin was a lot of fun. She enjoyed chatting with y'all.
Buzzmaster (2:21 PM)
She couldn't believe that you guys were that interested in her and her training and the Olypmics.
Jeff (Iowa)
Olympics?
Buzzmaster (2:22 PM)
Whatever.
Jimmy(Seattle)
If I am ever lucky enough to cover sports for someone like Espn. I am going to make sure I am in shape.
Buzzmaster (2:22 PM)
Good idea.
Jay (NY)
Whoa whoa whoa..what is this...an Afternoon Buzz? I need alerts to my cellphone.
Buzzmaster (2:24 PM)
Sort of. We're chatting from Chicago, the site of this year's US Olympic Team Media Summit. We're trying to chat with as many of the athletes as we can get and schedules allow.
Jeff (Iowa)
Buzz, that was not in reference to a spelling error. It was a poor attempt to point out that chatters were more interested in Kaitlin than the Olympics. My bad.
Jake (Syracuse)
Thanks Buzz, i damn sure aint a creep. I should never have found the tattoo info.
Buzzmaster (2:25 PM)
It was funny. In that weird sort of way that can't be interpreted or portrayed over the Internet.
Guille (Indiana)
I'm gonna be in the company box at the Sox game tonight, so hopefully they have a pretty good spread.
Mikeal(Atlanta)
I have never heard Kaitlin. I did a quick search of her. I think I can understand the interest. People need to know where the line is and not go over it. Ask her questions that deal with her career. No need to start getting personal.
Jay (NY)
So in 2 1/2 hours...2 stopped by...chloroform involved?
Buzzmaster (2:26 PM)
Bribery.
Jake (Syracuse)
Im listening to We are the Champions, thats what will be playing for all the US Olypions when we reach China.
Kaitlin Sandeno's Attorney
We are seeking a virtual restraining order against Jake from Syracuse.
Jeff (Iowa)
Buzz, are you flying solo on this trip, or did you bring Lady Buzz with you? I'm just worried about the fish.
Buzzmaster (2:27 PM)
LadyBuzz is back at the Buzz Mansion taking care of the fish. Though she was very jealous when I told her I might be seeing her all-time favorite Olympian Misty May-Treanor out here.
Jeff (Iowa)
Lighten up, Mikeal.
Buzzmaster (2:28 PM)
OH God! The archery people just walked by with their HUGE bows. I'm going into hiding.
Buzzmaster (2:28 PM)
Those things could kill a panther from a mile out.
Jeff (Iowa)
I imagine it will be tough to chat with Misty from the required 1,000-foot distance.
Brad (Gadsden,Alabama)
Where is the Buzz Mansion?
Buzzmaster (2:29 PM)
In the ol' CT.
Jake (Syracuse)
The tattoo has blinded my judgement, but you all know if she makes the Olympics, we will all be looking for it on TV
Panthers
60% of the time, they kill us everytime.
Brad (Gadsden,Alabama)
What state?
Buzzmaster (2:30 PM)
CT=Connecticut.
Jeff (Iowa)
Brad, look for the house with the dented garage.
Jay (NY)
The dented garage and a Matt Damon sighting.
Mike Tyson(Parts Unknown)
Yeah Mikeal lighten up. We should be able to ask any questions.
Jeff (Iowa)
Buzz must be tracking down a victim, er, athlete.
Buzzmaster (2:35 PM)
I love having this vast room all to myself, but I'm kind of down a hall with other rooms, away from all the action. So there's no one really coming down this way unless someone specifically brings them down.
Jay (NY)
I'd say Buzz actually lives in the state of confusion....bdum bum.
Jeff (Iowa)
Speaking of creepy...
Jake (Syracuse)
In the winter olympics they make the archers wear the snow shoes or ski's, in the summer they should have roller blades and try and shoot the target
Buzzmaster (2:36 PM)
That's the biathlon and isn't it a gun on skis?
Bill (Oregon)
Buzz, Brad in Alabama is a great example why they should keep the no child left behind law in effect.
Jake (Syracuse)
Buzz, you should try and get the Kirk sisters. They became the first sister duo to qualify for the U.S. Olympic Swim Team in history
Buzzmaster (2:37 PM)
Just checked my handy-dandy list here and I don't see their names on it. I don't think they're here.
Jeff (Iowa)
Skiing in July would be very interesting.
Buzz's Boss(Bristol, CT)
Break???!!! What do you think this is, a vacation? Do your job and get some people to chat!!!!!
Buzzmaster (2:39 PM)
My friend Sam from the USOC is acting like my scheduling agent here. She told me that we're going to get David Boudia, a diver at 3:30 p.m. ET. Laura Wilkinson and then possibly Abby Wambach.
Buzzmaster (2:39 PM)
That's Wilkinson, diver, and Wambach, soccer.
Jeff (Iowa)
Buzz, I need to get some work done, so I will chat with you in the morning. Have fun at whatever game you attend, enjoy some pizza, and stay out of jail. Peace out.
Don (NY, NY)
Buzz ....what was your quota for this afternoon? Three ahtletes? Four?
Buzzmaster (2:39 PM)
Three? Sweet! We've already had three. I met my quota.
The Pulse
I get more people to chat in 2 hours then you get in a full day
Jake (Syracuse)
Buzz, whos David and Laura? Abby is a great soccer star, know her.
Buzzmaster (2:41 PM)
David and Laura are both divers. Laura's even won some medals.
Mike(Charlotte)
Olympic Athlete, Carmelo Anthony was arrested for suspicion of DUI this morning. When will filthy rich athletes learn to take a limo?
Carl (Lansing, MI)
Buzz, did you know that a 4th lopii is the coach of the other 3?
Buzzmaster (2:42 PM)
Yes. Did I not mention that? I should have. I bumped into them at the registration the other night. Well, I didn't physically bump into them, because I would have gotten my bum kicked.
Jake (Syracuse)
One of Laura's favorite movies is Passion of the Christ, didnt really like that one, not one version in English
Mike(Charlotte)
Are you going to be able to get Misty May-Treanor on?
Buzzmaster (2:44 PM)
I believe she is going to be here tomorrow.
Mike(Charlotte)
Jake, that is really creepy
Carl (Lansing, MI)
Since he did so well for the national team, i thought i would throw out there that Carmelo was arrested for a potential DUI.
David (Detroit)
Buzz, how 'bout you and me suit up for the Tigers? We'll work for cheap and maybe get more hits than the other million dollar new additions.
Jake (Syracuse)
The info is right on the USOC website, hows that creepy, im trying to learn about these people before i send questions, its called research, do some Mike before you reply
Jay (NY)
Isn't there some Australian Pole Vaulter who's been posing nude? Get her Buzz.
Buzzmaster (2:47 PM)
Hey Jay, maybe you missed the part about this being the ''U.S.'' Olympic team event. U.S. as in United States as in United States of America as in not Australia.
Brian (PA)
Now we see why Insider is so expensive. It's so they can pay to fly Buzz to Chicago to talk to three athletes.
Buzzmaster (2:48 PM)
Come on now. I know you're trying to zing, but seriously. Insider is free when you buy ESPN the Magazine and I think the subscription is like $26 a year. $26=not expensive.
Mike(Charlotte)
I've done my research and it says, you're creepy
Adam (Toledo, OH)
Buzz, what's buried in the ESPN concrete?
Buzzmaster (2:49 PM)
I don't think I can reveal that in this forum.
Don (NY, NY)
Laura Wilkinson? Tell her I loved her dad in MIchael Clayton.
Buzzmaster (2:50 PM)
There are two MIS and IT seminars going on down the way. Not really sure how they're related to the Olympics, though.
Mike(Charlotte)
Buehrle goes for the Sox tonight against Oakland and Dempster for the Cubs tomorrow, not the greates matchups for you Buzz
Buzzmaster (2:51 PM)
You go there to watch the games?
Jake (Syracuse)
Maybe some of the athletes are MIS and IT mgrs for there businesses.
Mike(Charlotte)
True, it is the Sox and the Cubs
Jacob (Sacramento, CA)
Never been to Chicago - is it really as Windy as they say?
Buzzmaster (2:53 PM)
I heard that the person that gave Chicago the nickname Windy City was back in the 1800s and in reference to the politicians always talking too much.
Willie (Portland, OR)
Buzz, you should hit up Wrigley, and drink some beer tomorrow. You'll have a blast.
Matt (Winsor Locks via Albany)
Buzz, send one of your minions out to get you lunch. As soon as they get back and you're ready to eat, you'd get one of the Olympians and would have to hold off on eating. That should work.
Buzzmaster (2:54 PM)
I think we're finishing up on the athletes' lunch period. Now I know what a college basketball coach feels like during the NCAA required ''dead'' recruiting periods.
Carl (Lansing, MI)
If Jacob had come to the MB he would know that they call it the windy city from all the hot air that politicians expell there....
Ryan (San Diego)
Like Buzz said, ESPN insider is not expensive. $5/month is hardly a rip off if you consider how many times you access stories, especially during football season
Buzzmaster (2:54 PM)
Just subscribe to The Mag and get it for free.
David (Detroit)
Buzz, what kind of Olympic athlete would you be? If nothing, get us a real one to talk to!
Buzzmaster (2:56 PM)
I think I would like to be in one of the more obscure sports. One that you only hear about during an Olympic year. Maybe Taekwondo or kayaking.
Ryan (San Diego)
I do subscribe to ESPN the Magazine and in this month's issue I got to find out what its like to be Carmelo Anthony's personal assistant. I wonder what she's doing right about now...hmmmm
Don (NY, NY)
Multiple Choice Buzz ...you are stuck on three because: a) you're pacing yourself, b) you're holding out for an a-lister, c) you're carpal is acting up, d) you're just lazy
Buzzmaster (2:58 PM)
I would say all of those apply.
Buzzmaster (2:58 PM)
We definitely have David Boudia at 3:30 ET.
Buzzmaster (2:58 PM)
He's a diver.
Nathan (Washington, DC)
I called in sick yet am still here. Why?
Buzzmaster (2:59 PM)
I still haven't seen the archery folks come out of the photo shoot booth next door. Making me nervous.
John (Chicago)
How do we know that anyone is really anyone in these chats? For all we know Buzz is every athlete anyway.
Buzzmaster (2:59 PM)
That is true. Though, I could not have made up that chat with Kaitlin Sandeno.
David (Detroit)
Buzz, I thought I was in the fantasy sports chat but then I realized your whole life was a fantasy. Zing!
Buzzmaster (3:00 PM)
Is that zing supposed to make me feel bad or laugh?
Don (NY, NY)
Diver? Platform, Springboard or Deep-sea?
Buzzmaster (3:01 PM)
No to the deep-sea part. Where's our guy with the info? Jake (Syracuse) look that up for me.
Jake (Syracuse)
Hopefully the only thing thats being shot is the photos, wait is that creepy?
Patrick (Land of the Rising Sun)
What makes these chats so addictive? Did you put something in our keyboards?
Buzzmaster (3:01 PM)
Only the sweetest, tastiest chocolate known to mankind.
David (Detroit)
Seriously, though. How do you get these athletes to talk to you? Do you bring a laptop in their face and say ESPN? I hope it's not nearly as weird as I picture.
Buzzmaster (3:02 PM)
The formal way is to go through the USOC, put a request in. They break into the vault that is the athletes' schedules and try to make some time for you.
Buzzmaster (3:02 PM)
The informal way is to catch the athlete at the bar and ask for 10 minutes.
Josh (Lincoln, NE)
Buzz would you like me to teach you about past-due child support while you wait for the diver?
Earl (Currently watching SpongeBob)
Are you an actual person, or an artificially designed computer simulator who shows no mercy?
Buzzmaster (3:03 PM)
OK.
Carmelo (Locked Up)
I'd stay away from the bar if I were them.
Thornton (San Francisco, CA)
Buzz, just so you know, my goal in life is to discover your identity. I'm watching you.
Buzzmaster (3:04 PM)
We've got Bridget Sloan! She's a gymnast!
Vicki (New Jersey)
How much are you looking forward to the college dorm room style living?
Bridget Sloan (3:06 PM)
It will be different for me, since. I'm a freshman in high school. I'm not used to the dorm living. It will be a new experience. I'm up for it.
Brian (NY, NY)
what one personal item will you be bringing along with you?
Bridget Sloan (3:06 PM)
My hair straightener. There are a lot of things. My cell phone. iPod.
David (Detroit)
Bridget, since you are still in school, how do you deal with missing class and everything?
Bridget Sloan (3:07 PM)
Good time management skills. My parents have raised me to have good time management skills. We all have good time management skills, there are four of us kids. We all get our school work done.
Jake (Syracuse)
Bridget, what do you do to pump you up before you perform?
Bridget Sloan (3:08 PM)
I listen to my iPod. I have a playlist and certain songs that I always listen to before to get me ready and have my adrenaline going.
Carl (Lansing, MI)
If it comes down to you to win the team gold, if you hurt yourself but still stick the landing, you will be a national hero...just so you know...
Nathan (Washington, DC)
You are as old as my daughter. Why do I get the feeling that the catch a predator guy is about to show up at my house? Also, what's been your favorite moment in gymnastics?
Bridget Sloan (3:09 PM)
Definitely winning the gold medal in 2007 world championships. That's just about as good as it can get beside the Olympics. It meant we were the best in the world.
Keith (MD)
Is the stress starting to get to you and what do you do to handle it?
Bridget Sloan (3:10 PM)
In the sport, there is always stress, whether it's practice or Olympics. You have to take it as it comes and not let it get to you. You do what you have to do. Stress comes with the sport. If you get into gymnastics, you're going to be stressed.
Lyle (West Barnet, Vermont)
Despite all your success, do you miss being a regular rebelious teenager?
Bridget Sloan (3:10 PM)
In a way, I don't because I'm doing stuff that no other teenager has a chance to do. After this year, maybe I can be a regular teen. But right now, I'm fine with being the no party, no nothing teenager.
Michelle (Miami, Fl)
What's your favorite pump me up song??
Bridget Sloan (3:11 PM)
There are a lot. I'm big into techno before I compete and hard core rap. I'm not big into soothing music before I compete. I don't want to fall asleep.
Bridget Sloan (3:11 PM)
We love the sport. It's great to have you guys.
Buzzmaster (3:12 PM)
Thakns Bridget!
Buzzmaster (3:12 PM)
What a cool, laid back girl.
Jake (Syracuse)
No nothing teenager, your winning Gold medals for your country, thats a great accomplishment.
Buzzmaster (3:12 PM)
David Boudia is here!
Adrian (Libertyville, IL)
How did it feel when you first realizied you were going to represent America to the world in Olympic Competition
David Boudia (3:13 PM)
It's an awesome feeling to be able to represent your country. You know what you have to do come Olypmic time. I hope I can represent them to the best of my ability.
Carl (Lansing, MI)
Ever done a cannonball from the high dive?
David Boudia (3:14 PM)
I don't think I could ever do a cannonball from the high dive. I've done it from a 3 meter spring board and it doesn't feel good.
Jake (Syracuse)
David, whatdo you do before meets to get ready?
David Boudia (3:14 PM)
Before meets, I like to watch segments of videos to get motivated. It just sets my mind toward the meet and helps me perform well.
Jenna (New York City)
David, do you ever get tired of the Speedo jokes?
David Boudia (3:15 PM)
I haven't heard many. You're in a Speedo, not a lot of people wear them. So, no.
Paul (Chicago)
David, do you have any college plans or are you just focused on competing? I know a few schools that would definitely want you!
David Boudia (3:15 PM)
Right now, I decided to go to Purdue after the Olympic games. But that's after the Olympics. Right now my focus is on the games.
Keith (MD)
What is the highest dive that you've ever done?
David Boudia (3:16 PM)
The 10-meter. In diving there's the 10-meter, platform or three meter spring board.
Trevor (Redd, Maryland)
I'm 24 and I can't swim. What do you have to say to people like me who are embarassed to take swimming lessons?
David Boudia (3:17 PM)
You shouldn't be embarrassed to take swimming lessons. Everyone learns, it's just at different ages.
Carl (Lansing, MI)
What do you think you will miss from USA while in China? Or will you just be too pumped to even think of that stuff?
David Boudia (3:17 PM)
Definitely sometimes in your down time, you miss stuff like your family and friends. Hopefully they'll be there. But when the competition is right there you don't think about what you miss.
Paul (Chicago)
Boiler up! Good choice and good luck, David. How did you get into diving?
David Boudia (3:18 PM)
I got into diving, I was an ex gymnast and I wanted to get into a sport that would help me keep up with the flipping and spinning. I got into eiving in Oct. 2000.
Keith (MD)
Have you done any cliff diving?
David Boudia (3:19 PM)
I've never done cliff diving. I know places I can go. But there's not enough time. It would be exciting to try it.
Reginald (County Pointe, New Mexico)
How many hours a day do you practice?
David Boudia (3:20 PM)
I practice from 7:30 to 3:30, so about 8 hours.
Lisa (TN)
are you looking forward to authentic chinese food?
David Boudia (3:21 PM)
I've been over to China many times. Chinese food in China is much different than in the US. But I always like trying new things. It's definitely exciting to experience real Chinese food.
David Boudia (3:21 PM)
Thanks for your support. I'm excited to share this experience with you. Go Team USA!
Buzzmaster (3:22 PM)
Thanks David!
Buzzmaster (3:22 PM)
Another laid back dude.
David (Detroit)
Who's up next or is it, ugh, more Buzz time?
Jake (Syracuse)
There we go Buzz, go for 3 in a row
Ron Burgundy (Stayin Classy)
Ladies and gentlemen, can I please have your attention. I've just been handed an urgent and horrifying news story. I need all of you, to stop what you're doing and listen. Cannonball!
Frederick (United States via Ohio)
Hey Buzz, I'm in a huge bind. Should I get Wendy's or Taco Bell? Both look sooo good.
Buzzmaster (3:25 PM)
Run for the border.
Ryan (San Diego)
Take a breather Buzz, get some food. You're going to need some energy
Steve (Madison, WI)
Is Tetris an Olympic sport yet? Wasn't it made in Russia so it could so totally be an international sport.
Liz (Big Apple)
Wow, i think you have a fan in David, Buzz
Justin (Atlanta, GA)
I think it was an IQ test. Scrabble, however...
Jake (Syracuse)
Every athlete should listen to the Rocky soundtrack, we would never lose
Buzzmaster (3:28 PM)
Bridget Sloan says she's a techno/hard rap fan. And she said that right in front of her mom.
Jenna (New York City)
Buzzmaster, can you tell the athletes who came by today that we'd love to see them but we're forced to watch the games on NBC (Nothing But Commercials) - I am already not looking forward to the Olympics because of that.
Buzzmaster (3:28 PM)
Easy now. There are NBC spies everywhere.
Uncle Jesse (San Francisco)
Have mercy!
Paul (Lorain, OH)
Buzz is the coolest person I know. Wait.. I don't know Buzz.. hmm.. Still awesome though!
Stalker (Parts Unknown)
Buzz, I've searched for you on Facebook, Myspace, Linkedin, etc. - I just want to be your internet friend!
Don (Ny, NY)
If Bridget were truly a rap fan she would do her florr routiine with Ludicris playing in the background. Until then, she's just a poser.
Josh (Lincoln, NE)
Wow a freshman in high school? I feel old.
Jake (Syracuse)
Hard core rap does get you pumped up to, you cant listen to slow songs, you'll never perform well
Buzzmaster (3:34 PM)
That's exactly what Bridget said. Everyone has their own way of getting ready.
Jack (NB Canada)
Buzz is the Olympic donut eating champion but was forced to withdraw from the steak eating competition.
Jake (Syracuse)
I'd give my left arm to have won a medal at age 13
Paul (Lorain, OH)
So does the same person (same Buzz) do all the chats everyday? Or are there multiple Buzzes... Just wondering while I'm here.
Buzzmaster (3:35 PM)
There is only one Buzz.
Matt (Grand Rapids)
Buzz listens to Micheal Bolton to pump him up.
Liz (Big Apple)
Yeah.. we all know you get ready for TMB by listening to Barry Manilow
Buzzmaster (3:35 PM)
Supposedly Laura Wilkinson is in a nearby room. We're tracking her.
Tim (Detroit))
I'm guessing hard core rap means something different to a 9th grade gymnast than it does to most other people.
Buzzmaster (3:35 PM)
Point taken.
Paul (Lorain, OH)
That's awesome. If you need an assistant to Buzzmaster, gimmie a call!
Adrian (Libertyville IL)
One and only Buzz but there are multiple LadyBuzz's!
Buzzmaster (3:36 PM)
You're trying to get me in trouble.
Don (NY, NY)
Laura Wilkinson on the Buzz? Wow, its been three long hours since we last had an actual Olympic medelist on this chat!
Buzzmaster (3:38 PM)
No one's paying you to be in this chat, son!
Jake (Syracuse)
Just Laura and were done or are there more Buzz?
Buzzmaster (3:39 PM)
I'm going to hold out as long as I can to get as many folks as I can.
Matt (Grand Rapids)
Buzz, are you wearing your American flag Zubaz pants?
Buzzmaster (3:39 PM)
Maybe. Just like Kit and Napolean's karate instructor.
Liz (Big Apple)
Oh Snap, you just got owned, Don
Liz (Big Apple)
I think he is wearing his American flag speedos
Adrian (Libertyville IL)
Buzz I am liking this. Like an Afternoon Buzz. So we have TMB AMB and now we need a EMB.
Rex (Rex Kwon-Do)
You think anybody wants a roundhouse kick to the face when I'm wearing these babies?
Don (NY, NY)
I'm hooked and waiting for you to bag a sprinter or cylcist so I can ask a steroid question.
Buzzmaster (3:43 PM)
Track and field folks arrive tomorrow. Cyclists as well, I believe.
Jeff (Iowa)
Good atmosphere in this chat, Buzz.
Josh (Lincoln, NE)
I'm being paid to be here. I'm a secret chat quality auditor
Jeff (Iowa)
Apparently, MBers are consistent slackers, both morning and afternoon. Well done!
Guille (Indiana)
the Morning Buzz, Afternoon Morning Buzz, and Evening Morning Buzz. Yes, that makes sense.
Jay (Burke, VA)
Can they make curling a summer sport as well?
tom* (parkville, md)
What are they feeding you, Buzz?
Buzzmaster (3:45 PM)
There are no snacks. I've seen a bunch of drink spots with pop, water, juice, but no food on the tables. What's up with that?
Paul (Lorain, OH)
So, anyone getting any real work done today? I'm trying but its hard...
Jake (Syracuse)
Noon chat tomorrow alsofor the Olympians?
Buzzmaster (3:46 PM)
I think we have Brendan Hansen chatting at 11 ET. But we might take a break after that at until noon ET.
David (Detroit)
Buzz, the athletes are really robots. That's why there is no food. Nobody tell the Olympics committee.
Jeff (Iowa)
It's the Olympics, Buzz. There is no junk food.
Cal (St. Paul, MN)
Buzz is still going strong at 3:44. Buzz is the hardest working man in the chat business, take that Pulse, you chump!!
Buzzmaster (3:46 PM)
Here's Laura!
Keith (MD)
Do you have any special dives that no one else does?
Laura Wilkinson (3:47 PM)
Yes. A back two and a half summersault with two and a half twists in the pike position.
Michelle (Miami, FL)
Who is your Favorite Athlete?
Laura Wilkinson (3:47 PM)
That's hard. Probably Demetri Sautin. He's a Russian diver.
Jake (Syracuse)
whats the key to get great scores in diving?
Laura Wilkinson (3:48 PM)
No splash.
David (Detroit)
Laura, what's your favorite Olympic moment?
Laura Wilkinson (3:48 PM)
It was mine. Before my last dive in Sydney. I knew I was in a hunt for a medal. I didn't know how close I was, but knowing that you're living out your dream in the middle of the contest, is pretty cool.
Jake (Syracuse)
Laura, what do you do before your meets?
Laura Wilkinson (3:49 PM)
I try to listen to some music to put me in the right frame of mind. Think about one or two technical things for each dive.
Carl (Lansing, MI)
Are the new suits that are somewhat of a controversy at all helpful to divers?
Laura Wilkinson (3:49 PM)
No. They haven't quite developed a suit that's helpful for diving.
Jeff (Iowa)
Other than competing, what is the best part about the Olympics?
Laura Wilkinson (3:50 PM)
Just the atmosphere. It's crazy, fun and exciting for the whole two weeks.
Cal (St. Paul, MN)
Laura, how did you get into diving?
Laura Wilkinson (3:50 PM)
I was a gymnast first. When I got too tall for that, I tried a bunch of sports. When I found diving, I fell in love with it.
Ted (New Jersey)
How do you deal with the down time between Games? It's once every four years that you get to compete on the hardest stage in the world?
Laura Wilkinson (3:51 PM)
We do have world championships and world cups in the off years, so those are good motivators.
Laura Wilkinson (3:51 PM)
And learning new dives too, that keeps it exciting and fresh.
Anthony (Cleveland)
How many bags are you packing?
Laura Wilkinson (3:52 PM)
As many as they'll let me take. Whatever the airlines says. They'll come back full.
Mike (Orange County)
What country do you think will be your toughest competition?
Laura Wilkinson (3:52 PM)
China. China dominates our sport right now. I'm excited to go into their territory and give them a good challenge.
DJ (MN)
Laura so what is there for your after diving?
Laura Wilkinson (3:53 PM)
I have a foundation. The Laura Wilkinson Foundation. I'm trying to build a new facility for my team. www.LWFound.org.
Paul (Lorain, OH)
Now for the important question. What is your favorite way to prepare eggs when you have egss for breakfast?
Laura Wilkinson (3:53 PM)
Scrambled.
Jenna (New York City)
How crazy is it to think that you are representing America? You must get chills.
Laura Wilkinson (3:54 PM)
I do love that feeling. And walking out in that opening ceremonies in front the world with the rest of your teammates.
Jake (Syracuse)
Laura, do you ever worry about what happened to Greg Luganis?
Laura Wilkinson (3:54 PM)
Those accidents happen, but not very often. Technique is something that we really need to focus on to make sure we're safe.
Jeff (Iowa)
Since you are an Olympic veteran, what advice do you have for rookies?
Laura Wilkinson (3:55 PM)
Never give up. No matter what you're going through. Never give up.
Laura Wilkinson (3:55 PM)
Thanks for the chat. I hope you watch this summer.
Buzzmaster (3:56 PM)
Thanks Laura!
Jalter (My Parent's Basement)
I have "The Morning Buzz" tatooed on my lower back.
Jake (Syracuse)
We know you'll make us all proud, represent well
Adrian (Libertyville IL)
Hey Buzz thanks for getting all these Olmpians together for us. Really nice work. Thanks
Paul (Lorain, OH)
Well, I'm pumped I found out how she likers her eggs.
Buzzmaster (3:57 PM)
She laughed at that question.
Jake (Syracuse)
U-S-A U-S-A U-S-A
Tim (Detroit))
Never Give up..never surrender (in voice of weird alien from Galaxy Quest)
Buzzmaster (3:57 PM)
Never give up, don't ever give up - Jimmy Valvano.
Don (NY, NY)
See Buzz, you allow dopey questions to get through (what kinds of eggs do you like?) and the athletes don't take you seriously.
Buzzmaster (3:58 PM)
Are you kidding me? They love that. It's different than all the other interviews they're doing today. Plus it lightens them up.
Liz (Big Apple)
Well Said, Master B!
Keith (MD)
Buzz, you scared me by putting up my comment to Boudia and then totally redeemed yourself since Laura is a diver also. Thanks
Buzzmaster (3:59 PM)
MommaBuzz didn't raise no dummy.
Paul (Lorain, OH)
On a side note I wish I didn't mis-spell "eggs" and "likes"...
Jeremy (NYC)
Buzz, I thought you were going to post a poptarts question. Ye doth have failed us.
Buzzmaster (4:00 PM)
I tried with Kaitlin Sandeno, but she was distracted.
Laura (Austin TX)
Thx Buzz for the chat ...I loved the eggs question.
Buzzmaster (4:01 PM)
We've got Jonathan Horton, a gymnast!
Evan (Phoenix)
How early will you be going out to the games?
Jonathan Horton (4:02 PM)
I'll be going, if I make the team, in the very beginning of August and we'll be there for a whole month.
Ryan (San Diego)
What about the questionable air quality? The Padres and Dodgers players said it was terrible
Jonathan Horton (4:03 PM)
Since my sport is gymnastics, I haven't paid attention to the air very much, since we're indoors. But I have heard that the polution is kind of bad. But I've heard that they'll be doing something before the Olypmics that will help the air quality for the outdoor sports.
Phillip (Tucson)
What do you think about your sports coverage (or lack thereof)?
Jonathan Horton (4:05 PM)
Gymnastics is actually one of the most covered sports at the Olypmics. I've hard that it's the most popular sport. I'm pretty excited because gymnasitcs usually isn't shown until the Olympics. I'm pretty excited because I have a lot of people that have said they want to watch me at the games.
Paul (Lorain, OH)
What's your diet and workout like?
Jonathan Horton (4:06 PM)
Well, I'm actually ona pretty strict diet. I don't change it up too much. I usually have oatmeal for breakfast. I have a turkey or ham sandwich for lunch with Gatorade. For dinner, I have a high protein meat like beef or chicken with vegetables and mash potatos.
Jonathan Horton (4:07 PM)
My workouts right now is 3 days a week. I go to the gym at 6:30. After that I go to class. At 1:45 I go to my second practice six days a week depending on what I'm doing that day.
Cal (St. Paul, MN)
what gymnastics event is your favorite?
Jonathan Horton (4:07 PM)
I'd actually have to say I enjoy them all, but the most exciting one is the high bar. It's definitely a high flying, risky event. Me and my good teammate Justin Spring enjoy doing a lot of release moves.
Joe (Oklahoma)
Jonathan, make us Sooners proud! What country do you think will be the biggest challenge for our team over in China?
Jonathan Horton (4:09 PM)
Definitely China. They are very dominating in the sport right now. We have some key players that have come back that have made our team unbelievabely powerful. I think we have a shot at knocking them at the championshiop and creating an underdog story.
Mike (Orange County)
Who is your hero well besides your family I guess. Any particular Olympic athlete?
Jonathan Horton (4:10 PM)
I don't necessarily have Olympic athletes that are my heros, but I do idolize anyone that has worked hard enough and has made sacrifices to make it to hte Olympics. The games are such a presitgious event and only the best get to go. To make it there requires an amount of training that I think a lot of people don't realize.
Jeff (Iowa)
How painful is it to miss on the pommel horse?
Jonathan Horton (4:11 PM)
It's painful, mentally. I never want to mess up a routine. Physically, pommel horse is one of the easier events on your body. It's not like the rings, you can only practice like twice a week because it's so hard on your shoulders.
Paul (Chicago)
Jonathon, some of the other athletes said they started as gymnasts and went to other sports. What does gymnastics teach you that makes it so valuable to learn?
Ryan (San Diego)
How would you rate Vince Vaughn's rings performance in Old School?
Jonathan Horton (4:15 PM)
Fake. It was a hilarious scene and I loved it. There's no way anyone could smoke a cigarette and do an iron cross like Vince Vaughn.
Kevin (St. Louis)
What does your family think of having an Olympic athlete in the family? Do they have great genes, too?
Jonathan Horton (4:16 PM)
Well, my parents are unbelieveably excited. They seem more excited than me. I'd say the genes in my family, my dad is naturally strong and my mom is very short and flexible. That's why I'm small, strong and flexible. It worked out for me and I'm built for the sport.
Jonathan Horton (4:16 PM)
I appreciate the support that you have for me. Hopefully when I make this games, I won't be competing for myself but everyone who lives in the US and representing all of them.
Buzzmaster (4:17 PM)
Thanks Jonathan!
Buzzmaster (4:18 PM)
Just got word Abby Wambach should be coming in soon!
Jay (NY)
Oh well, I got pulled into a meeting, I wanted to out-creep Jake and ask her on a date.
Jake (Syracuse)
8-8-8 is to long to wait, im getting pumped up, lets beat em now
Jeff (Iowa)
Buzz, make sure you don't tell Jake about your morning gig.
Buzzmaster (4:21 PM)
We might also get Paul Hamm, but just a warning, his chat might be a quick one.
Jake (Syracuse)
That got blown out of proportion, you people are sad
Buzzmaster (4:21 PM)
Come on now, we're just having some fun.
Jay (NY)
Whoa that comment was way earlier when a female was here, lets make that clear.
Buzzmaster (4:23 PM)
Easy now. It's clear.
Jeff (Iowa)
Hamm's - not a bad beer, with a large bear as a mascot.
Triangle
All the attention I got this morning was glorious! I felt like Chris O'Donnell!
Buzzmaster (4:27 PM)
Change of plans. Natalie Coughlin first!
Ken (Trenton, NJ)
What music pumps you up?
Natalie Coughlin (4:28 PM)
I like a lot of hip hop and pop and RandB and rock. Basically, not country. I like a variety of things
Anthony (Cleveland)
What sports did you follow as a kid?
Natalie Coughlin (4:28 PM)
I really didn't follow any sports as a kid. I watched the Olympics in 88 and 92, but neither my dad or my mom watched sports, so I never did. But now I watch lots of football. Go Raiders!
Jake (Syracuse)
Natalie, how do you get ready for your event?
Natalie Coughlin (4:29 PM)
I have a pretty specific prerace routine, which includes coffee and this 30-40 minute pilates/stretching routine. Then about 15 minutes of swimming and 20 minutes of putting on my suit. Then I relax and race.
Dan (North Carolina)
What's the one thing you have to bring with you to the games?
Natalie Coughlin (4:29 PM)
My french press and coffee and my pillow.
Paul (Lorain, OH)
So how's it feel to break a world record, then go and break your own record?
Natalie Coughlin (4:30 PM)
It is kind of indescribable. It's a really amazing feeling that no one has been faster than you in the history of the world. But you always wnat to improve on that.
briana (Maine)
Are you allowed to eat junk food like pop tarts? If so, which is your favorite?
Natalie Coughlin (4:31 PM)
I'm allowed to, but I choose not to. I'm allowed to eat what I want to eat, but I choose to not eat processed food.
Don (NY, NY)
Does that gold from Athens and your performance at the World Championships take any of the pressure off in Bejing?
Natalie Coughlin (4:31 PM)
I'm not sure if it takes pressure off of me, but I feel less pressure this time around and I Think that's because I've been there before and I don't let myself get caught up.
Jake (Syracuse)
Have you ever been to China?
Natalie Coughlin (4:31 PM)
No.
Don (NY, NY)
Kaitlin ....fact or fiction . . . Michael Phelps will win eight golds this summer and be named SI's 2008 Athlete of the Year?
Natalie Coughlin (4:32 PM)
He's amazing and probably the best swimmer ever. I won't be surprised whatever he does and it will be special.
Claudia (Freelands, Minnesota)
Natalie, I am a huge fan! I want to compete in the Olympics someday. I work very hard and try to stay motivated no matter what. What is your advice to young people who want to go all the way?
Natalie Coughlin (4:33 PM)
Focus on having fun and being passionate in what you do rather than focusing on the end results.
Jeff (Iowa)
The Olympic trials are in Omaha, and from what I understand, they are bringing in an above-ground pool of some sort for the arena. Is this pretty common, and does it affect times?
Natalie Coughlin (4:34 PM)
There is definitely more wake in the temporary pools. However, competition is competition. So there will be fast times whether or not the pools are considered fast or slow. That's common in the US because we don't have the facilities.
Natalie Coughlin (4:34 PM)
Thanks for all the support. Keep it coming.
Buzzmaster (4:34 PM)
Thanks Natalie. What a surprise!
Buzzmaster (4:34 PM)
Paul Hamm is up next!
Gary (Phoenix)
What have you learned from your previous experiences?
Paul Hamm (4:36 PM)
I've learned to try to enjoy the process. Remember that I'm competing for the United States. I have the opportunity to represent our country. It's a tremendous honor to be in that position.
Jake (Syracuse)
Paul, what is your routine before a competition?
Paul Hamm (4:37 PM)
I will typically try to get a meal about 3 hours before a competition. After that, I take a nap for about an hour. Wake up, shower, listen to music then I'm out the door.
Kyle (Kansas)
There has been some talks about the US boycotting the opening ceremonies. As an athlete, what do you think about that?
Paul Hamm (4:37 PM)
I don't think we should boycott the opening ceremonies. There is no real reason to do that. Even our president currently states that he will be attending the opening ceremonies. Therefore we shoudl as well.
Brad (Gadsden,Alabama)
What is the best sport in the olympics?
Paul Hamm (4:38 PM)
Of course I'm going to say the best is gymnastics. But I like to watch a lot of different sports. I like watching track and field, basketball, swimming, etc.
Paul Hamm (4:39 PM)
I hope I make you guys proud. My goal is to qualify and represent the US with pride and honor.
Buzzmaster (4:39 PM)
We've got some more gymnasts coming in. Samantha Peszek and Shayla Worley.
Paul (Lorain, OH)
So I'll be following the Jonathan Horton workout plan and diet from this day forward. that guy's jacked!
Jay (NY)
This chat is making me feel old today.
Keith (MD)
Up north, your called Canadian Bacon.
Ryan (San Diego)
I'm leaving the office in 20 min Buzz, if Abby isn't here by then can you ask her how many of the team was a part of the Olympic Development Program as teens?
Buzzmaster (4:42 PM)
I can try.
Jake (Syracuse)
Buzz, ov/un on how many media members are there?
Buzzmaster (4:44 PM)
Well, there were about 150 in the morning press conference, but that was just to hear Mayor Daley speak. I can't imagine what it was for Michael Phelps.
derrick (Alabama)
Are you training more or less since the games are around the corner.
Samantha Peszek (4:48 PM)
Probably a little bit more, with a little more intensity with my workouts. And with more concentration and focus.
Brad (Gadsden,Alabama)
Have you been only a gymnasts your whole life or have you done different things?
Shayla Worley (4:48 PM)
When I was little, I did baseball and I did a lot of modeling and acting. But from a young age I focused on gymnastics only
Jake (Syracuse)
Are you going before the Olympics to get acclimated to the scene?
Samantha Peszek (4:49 PM)
We'll probalby go three weeks in advance to get acclimated to the equipment and the food and the atmosphere, time change.
Jake (Syracuse)
Sam and Shayla, what are your routines before competitions?
Shayla Worley (4:50 PM)
Before a meet, I get ready and try to get pumped up listening to some music. I have a power bar so I have something in my system.
Brad (Gadsden,Alabama)
What is your fav. winter olympics sport to watch?
Samantha Peszek (4:50 PM)
Ice skating, figure skating.
Craig (Toronto)
what's your favorite event?
Samantha Peszek (4:52 PM)
PRobably floor. Because it's fun to show off your personality with your floor routine and choreography.
Jake (Syracuse)
Cheerios or wheaties?
Shayla Worley (4:52 PM)
Wheaties, because it's the breakfast of champions and I hope I'm on the box this year.
Ryan (San Diego)
Are you allowed to compete on your high school gymnastics team?
Samantha Peszek (4:53 PM)
No. I'm really focused on my elite training right now.
Carl (Lansing, MI)
Do you ever try any of the men's events while you are at the gym that you cannot compete with on a regular basis?
Shayla Worley (4:54 PM)
I've tried them all. The Pommels are most challenging. I can't do a circle to save my life. You'd think it would be easy to support yourself on the rings, but I can't.
Paul (Columbus, Ohio)
What is you diet like?
Samantha Peszek (4:55 PM)
I try to eat pretty healthy, not only to stay in the top physical shape but becaues it helps me feel good too.
Bill (Philly)
How hard are the rings? How strong do you have to be?
Shayla Worley (4:55 PM)
Incredibly strong! The way the men do it make it look easy. I told ya, I can't even support myself. But I can do a double back off of them.
Samantha Peszek (4:56 PM)
Thanks so much for all your support.
Shayla Worley (4:56 PM)
Thanks for your support. Watch us in Beijing. Go USA!
Jake (Syracuse)
Good luck ladies
Paul (Lorain, OH)
Well I think I'm gonna head out. Have fun and take care.
Buzzmaster (4:57 PM)
Thanks Shayla and Sam!
Buzzmaster (4:58 PM)
Those two were funny. And Shayla's mom is a court reporter. She told me I should hire one to do the typing.
Paul (Columbus)
You do post few grammatical errors Buzz
Buzzmaster (5:00 PM)
I know, but you try typing in real time when you have TWO teenage girls sitting next to you.
Buzzmaster (5:00 PM)
They talk about a mile a minute.
Paul (Columbus, Ohio)
I can imagine
Paul (Columbus)
When can I do a chat. I am a collegiate athlete. I could get a good discussion going.
Bob (Lowell, Ma)
Buzz these road trips cause you some serious OT don't they?
Buzzmaster (5:04 PM)
That is one perk.
Brad (Gadsden,Alabama)
whos next?
Buzzmaster (5:05 PM)
There was a rumor about Abby Wambach. But she might have gotten tied up.
Josh (Lincoln, NE)
Do you have teenage girls around you when you do the MB?
Buzzmaster (5:08 PM)
Not usually.
Matt (Winsor Locks via Albany)
Hey Buzz, how much longer are you going to go today? It's been pretty entertaining so far.
Buzzmaster (5:08 PM)
I'm glad there's one person happy with the output. I'm not sure. I have my people scouting out there right now.
Buzzmaster (5:08 PM)
Looks like we might have a wrestler coming in.
Jack (NB Canada)
Hulkster or Ric Flair??
Don (NY, NY)
Triple H?
Matt (Winsor Locks via Albany)
Now does make me part of the Buzz Army of One?
Josh (Lincoln, NE)
I am very happy with the output...I just don't know who any of these people are. Probably won't until the Olympics begin.
Jake (Syracuse)
Hes gonna suplex you Buzz
Jake (Syracuse)
Rulon Gardner
Buzzmaster (5:12 PM)
We've got Brad Vering!
Amanda (New York)
Have you been to China before?
Brad Vering (5:13 PM)
Yes one time to Guang Xhou. It's about 90 miles west of Hong Kong.
Glenn (NJ)
Be honest now, do you watch WWE? who's your favoritE?
Brad Vering (5:13 PM)
I don't watch WWE and I have a couple of friends that have. Brock Lenser, Kurt Angle. They're all ex-wrestlers.
Jake (Syracuse)
Brad, how do you prepare for your matches?
Brad Vering (5:14 PM)
I would say pretty simple. I'm ready to go whenever it's time to wrestle. I don't do anything ritualistic. I don't believe in that. I don't believe in luck in matches. I don't believe being ritualistic like baseball players.
Paul (Columbus)
What is your Body Fat %?
Brad Vering (5:14 PM)
It keeps going up becuase I keep getting older. I think it's around 8 or 9 percent.
Josh (Vermont)
I always love to look up the Olympic team and pick one or two athletes to follow and cheer for. So, I'm giving you an early chance to be my athlete. Tell me, why should I choose you?
Brad Vering (5:15 PM)
I was second in the world last year. I'm from a small town. I was on the team in 2004 and I'm hungry, man. I'm hungry for gold@!
Jake (Syracuse)
Any future in MMA?
Brad Vering (5:16 PM)
Right now, that's on hold. I have a lot of buddies that do that. We'll see.
Paul (Columbus)
How many calories do you consume per day?
Brad Vering (5:16 PM)
I don't what the caloric intake is, but I burn a lot.
Jason (Chicago)
Whats it like traning with all these stars on the field? Good luck in the Olympics, U-S-A.
Brad Vering (5:17 PM)
It's great. It's cool. It's a great experience. When you get to train with the best, you get to mimic what they do and that helps your training.
Jake (Syracuse)
Cheerios or Wheaties?
Brad Vering (5:17 PM)
You have to go Wheaties, man. You have to get on that box.
Logann (Holland,Ohio)
Do you find the torch protests appropriate?
Brad Vering (5:18 PM)
No. I don't find them appropriate.
Phillip (Chicago)
I just want to say Thank You and good luck. Remember we are all behind you.
Henry (Buffalo)
Are you worried at all about the quality of air? and all the controversy surrounding the games right now?
Brad Vering (5:19 PM)
You know what in Athens that was a big deal too. It doesn't matter what the air is like. Whether you're inside or outside, it doesn't matter what the air is like. I've inhaled plenty of corn dust and diesel fumes from living on a farm when I was a kid. IT's not going to bother me too much.
Dan (North Carolina)
what's the one thing to bring with?
Brad Vering (5:20 PM)
The one thing? That's a tough one? I'm definitely going to be taking my bible for sure. That keeps me calm. Whenever I need some good advice, that's when I go to the good book......maybe my wrestling shoes will help too.
Jake (Syracuse)
How did you get into Wrestling?
Brad Vering (5:21 PM)
My brother kind of got me into it when I was 5. I've been doing it ever since and have been doing it every day.
Willie (Portland, OR)
Brad, how much longer do you think you'll be wrestling professionally? Do you plan on trying to become a WWE member, or joining UFC?
Brad Vering (5:21 PM)
Until 8-13 or 8-14 in 2008. The Olympics will be my last competition.
Willie (Portland, OR)
What weight class will you be wrestling at?
Brad Vering (5:22 PM)
84 kilos, 184 pounds.
Brad Vering (5:22 PM)
Thanks for the questions. Thank you for the support. I use it to fuel the fire.
Jim Ross (Oklahoma)
OH GOD ALMIGHTY!!!!!!!!!! ITS BRAD VERING!!!! HES GOING TO WHIP THE CHINESE LIKE A GOVERNMENT MULE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jim Ross (Oklahoma)
BRAD VERING WITH A STEAL CHAIR!!!! OH GOD NOOOOOO WHY BRAD WHY!?!?!?!?!
Jeff (Iowa)
Buzz, these are some pretty quick chats. Are you scaring people away?
Buzzmaster (5:23 PM)
These guys are under crazy time constraints. We're stealing as much time as we can.
JR (Oklahoma)
OH GOD!!! ITS BRAD VERING!!! HERE COMES HELL FIRE AND BRIMSTONE!!!!!
Jeff (Iowa)
Brad Vering was a stud at Nebraska.
Buzzmaster (5:24 PM)
He looks like he can still kick some serious bum.
Buzzmaster (5:24 PM)
Solid, solid dude. Sterotypical ''v-shape.''
Jake (Syracuse)
Yeah my body fat % is about 100 times his
Jeff (Iowa)
Speaking of Nebraska, Joba Chamberlain's father is in pretty bad shape in Lincoln. My prayers go out to the family.
Matt (Winsor Locks via Albany)
Time for your Army to call it a day, Buzz. I'll see you in the Morning Buzz, weekdays at 10 AM EST, only on SN.
Buzzmaster (5:31 PM)
Sounds good. I think we're about to wrap this thing.
Lady Buzz (Bristol CT)
V-shape, eh? Sounds like an Oscar-winning actor I know...
Matt (Winsor Locks via Albany)
Ladies and Gentlemen: Buzz has left the building (he got too hungry and had to go get some food after his Pot Tart supply finally gave out).
Buzzmaster (5:33 PM)
OK folks. I think we're through for the day. I'm going to wrap this thing up here. Thanks so much for stopping by today. I hope you enjoyed our attempt to bring you some of these Olympians that have been working so hard to train.
Geoff (Iowa)
I'm changing the spelling of my name to add more emphasis to my posts, Buzz.
Jeff (Iowa)
Being around all of those athletes made Buzz hungry. I venture to say there is not a pizza that is safe in the Windy City tonight.
Buzzmaster (6:24 PM)
Just kidding everyone. Actually, we have Heather O'Reilly!
Frank (DC)
when do you get nervous before you compete?
Heather O'Reilly (6:25 PM)
I'd say listening to the national anthem is a pretty emotional time. You definitely get some chills and nerves at that time.
Bill (St. Louis)
what are you going to miss the most?
Heather O'Reilly (6:25 PM)
Not to sound sappy, but I'll probably miss my boyfriend Dave, though he is planning on trying to make it out for some of the tournament.
Glenn (NJ)
What do you do before your event to prepare?
Heather O'Reilly (6:26 PM)
I like to stay nice and loose before games. I usually have my iPod going, but the team usually has music in the lockerroom. There are some of us that get up and sing and dance and work off of each other's energy.
tre (washington)
I remember reading an article on Michael Phelps after the last olympics where he was talking about the huge down, almost depression, he went through after the games. He trained, trained had all the acclimation that came with the games and then it was nothing. How do you think you'll handle that?
Heather O'Reilly (6:28 PM)
For the 2004 Olypmic games, I went into my college season, so the fun continued. I think all of us agree that it's such an intense time and the Olypmics are such a pinaccle of your career. When it gets back to your normal life and training, it's a relief. I know that was what it was like for me and a lot of the girls on the team.
James (Chicago)
Whats it like traning with all these stars on the field? Good luck in the Olympics, U-S-A.
Heather O'Reilly (6:30 PM)
Especially in 2004, playing with my idols such as Hamm and LIlly, I was awestruck. But now, having so much experience, I'm just trying to make an impact and do my part for the team. You don't think about that anymore.
Jake (Philly)
Cheerios or wheaties?
Heather O'Reilly (6:30 PM)
I love all types of cereals. Between those two, I'd go for Cheerios, even honey nut.
James (Louisville)
how honored are you to represent the US?
Heather O'Reilly (6:31 PM)
It's really a thrill. Every time I hear the anthem, I thikn about the opportunity to represent the country. It's really my proudest moment as an athlete.
Dan (Tampa)
what is the one thing that' you'll be taking with?
Heather O'Reilly (6:33 PM)
I have a folder of letters from coaches and cards that people have given me that I use for inspiration and motivation. I'll definitely bring that with me.
Heather O'Reilly (6:33 PM)
Thanks for the question. Thanks for your support. See you guys in August.
