Chat with former Auburn DE Quentin Groves

Groves finished his career tied for the most sacks in Auburn history, with 26. He entered his senior season needing three sacks to tie the record and he got exactly three in his final year. His three sacks were third on the team. He also contributed with 38 tackles, seven of which were for a loss. Groves had 23 hits on the quarterback, which led the team.
According to Groves' Scouts Inc.'s draft profile, Groves has "exceptional straight-line speed as an up-the-field DE/OLB type. Explodes off the ball and can make plays in the backfield. Is fast enough to turn the corner versus top-shelf OT's and closes well. Drives legs when is able to get offensive linemen on heels and flashes the ability to collapse the pocket. Does an adequate job of getting hands up when isn't going to get to the quarterback and times jumps fairly well. Extends arms once locked on, shows adequate upper body strength and flashes the ability to shed blocks quickly."
Send in your questions now, then join Groves on Monday at 12:30 pm ET!

Hello! Sorry about the time mix up! We expect Quentin to be joining us here in a few minutes at 12:30 p.m. ET! Keep your questions coming!
Buzzmaster (12:33 PM)
Quentin is here!
Quentin Groves (12:33 PM)
Hello everyone!
Tom, Austin, TX
Hi Quentin, I was wondering...in the off season, what kind of cross training do you do besides what you get in the weight room? (BTW, the LSU/Auburn game was outstanding in '07. I am an LSU grad, but still wish you good luck in your pro career:-)
Quentin Groves (12:34 PM)
Right now I do a lot of treadmill work. I was travelling for two weeks. I'm on the bike a lot right now. A normal week would mean lots of LB and pass rush drills.
Jonathan Georgia
I dont have a question i just have a demand. You better come to the 49ers
Quentin Groves (12:34 PM)
(Laughing) Thank you! Coach Nolan, if he wants to draft me, I would be more than happy to be a 49er!
Mike (Denver)
Q --- did the Broncos approach you at all? We need another DE to bring the heat!
Quentin Groves (12:35 PM)
No. The Broncos have not approached me but that could be a smokescreen. Maybe they just don't want the other teams to know they are interested in me!
Guy, cardiff, Wales
Hi Quentin, I'm a 49ers fan & am hoping you are still there when we pick 29th. Can you tell me if you'd prefer paying LB in a 3-4 or DE in a 4-3 defense??
Quentin Groves (12:36 PM)
I really don't have a preference. I'm just a football player. Put me out there and I play.
Wiley (Quentin Groves Fan Club, Inc.)
You were a monster against Florida this year. Everytime I just saw you on television, I hid for safety.
Quentin Groves (12:36 PM)
I think a lot of people were talking a lot about Tebow and not so much about our defense. That ticked me off. We had a gameplan to shut them down and that's whta we did.
rerun (su)
hey quinton...what's your biggest football superstition?
Quentin Groves (12:37 PM)
Oh yeah. Every player has them. I walk to the 30 yard line on the East side and do one pass rush on each side, left and right. Back in the lockerrom I pray and do 6 pushups. I did 6 in high school and had 3 sacks so I've been doing it ever since.
Joe (Huntsville,AL)
How much has your injury coming into this past season effected your draft status?
Quentin Groves (12:38 PM)
First off, I'm 100% right now. My injuries affected me quite a bit. When I got injured it slowed me down and teams started wondering if I'm healthy. But I am.
Joe (Huntsville,AL)
Scarier thought. Being sent to Coach Yox for skipping class or facing your wife after you didn't take the trash out?
Quentin Groves (12:39 PM)
That's the same kind of brutality right there. Probably facing the wife, though.
Josh (Asheville, NC)
Quentin - what do you do in your off time? Watch UFC? Play Madden? If you play Madden, what team do you roll with? THanks.
Quentin Groves (12:39 PM)
I play golf. I've been doing that for about 8 months. I just want to learn all about the game and what goes on on the golf course.
Rupert (United States)
Hey Quentin, you are truly a beast. Do you pattern your game after any NFL player?
Quentin Groves (12:40 PM)
Three people .. Dwight Freeney, Lawerence Taylor and Reggie White.
Wiley (Quentin Groves Fan Club, Inc.)
Where will you be on draft day?
Quentin Groves (12:41 PM)
I'll be in Mississippi with the family. I'm going to watch the first 5 picks and then turn the TV off.
Peter (Miami)
There is some talk here in Miami that you are a Bill Parcells kind of guy and they will take you if you are there at #32. Have you been contacted by the Fins and if so what is your take on that possibility?
Quentin Groves (12:42 PM)
I visited Miami two weeks ago. I talked to all the coaches and they were all really great. I was in shock the whole time I was talking to Parcells. It was like sitting next to an idol.
Rick (TN)
WDE ! Quentin, how much do you think staying for your senior year helped your draft ranking?
Quentin Groves (12:42 PM)
It helped me a lot from a mental standpoint. But I also just got bigger, faster, stronger. I became a real student of the game.
Nubbs (Big Rock Road)
True or False, Quentin Groves is the best pass rusher in the draft?
Quentin Groves (12:43 PM)
Absolutely! True!
Richard (Panama City, FL)
Quentin, who's your pick to come out on top in the NBA Playoffs?
Quentin Groves (12:43 PM)
Boston Celtics. All the way.
Greg (Holmdel, New Jersey)
Quentin, can you walk me through your typical game-day preperations?
Quentin Groves (12:44 PM)
Like I said, I do my superstisions and then I talk to the QB .. but mainly I'm just doing my drills.
Alex (Omaha, NE)
What do you consider your greatest attribute and what will allow you to be successful at the next level?
Quentin Groves (12:45 PM)
I'm a coach on the field. I learn more than I need to know so I can really know as much as possible about the game.
Josh (Asheville, NC)
Quentin - one more question for you. Being a pass rusher, do you feel that all the heat Mario Williams got for being the No. 1 pick over Reggie Bush & Vince Young was unfair?
Quentin Groves (12:46 PM)
I think he silenced all the critics this year. But it's tough to be a No. 1 pick when you are a defensive player and can't score all the points like a Reggie Bush or Vince Young.
Josh
NFL QB you'd most like to sack?
Quentin Groves (12:47 PM)
I think Vince Young because he is so elusive .. Peyton Manning and Tom Brady just because they are so great.
Brooks (California)
Do you talk smack out there? Be like.....Hey Manning, I'm gonna drop you like a bad habit, boy!!!!
Quentin Groves (12:47 PM)
Oh yeah! That is part of my game. It's how you get in people's heads!
Paul (Lorain, OH)
Predict your Madden ratings!
Quentin Groves (12:48 PM)
I'll probably be like a 85 or 86 if I'm in the first round. 78 or 79 if I'm in the second round. I just want my speed to be high.
John (Colorado)
How does the SEC prepare a player for the NFL? It's the best conference right?
Quentin Groves (12:49 PM)
I think I'm more prepared because I was in the SEC. That conference there are no Saturdays off. You face the best of the best every week, just like in the NFL.
Angel (Miami, FL)
What's the dirtiest move or thing done to you by an opposing lineman or any other position?
Quentin Groves (12:49 PM)
Against Florida one guy punched me in my privates .. another guy stepped on my hand .. I got pulled to the ground I don't know how many times.
Patrick (Alabama)
What will you miss most about college football?
Quentin Groves (12:50 PM)
The pagentry. I'll miss that a lot.
Joe (Huntsville,AL)
Any plans for all that money you're about to have? Gotta take care of mama and then what?
Quentin Groves (12:51 PM)
Yeah, I'm gonna tide first and give the Lord his share. I'm going to invest most of it.
Joe (Huntsville,AL)
Can you repeat anything that you said to Tim Tebow?
Quentin Groves (12:51 PM)
Nah! Can't repeat that!
Johnstone (Wrigleyville)
Did you grow up a fan of any particular NFL team?
Quentin Groves (12:52 PM)
I was a big Steelers fan.
Mearle the Squirrel (The enchanted forest)
Do guys really try to hurt each other in piles going after a fumble? My grandpa used to bite people and break their fingers.
Quentin Groves (12:53 PM)
Oh yeah. You scratch and claw and do what you have to do to get that ball. It's a war!
Quentin Groves (12:53 PM)
Thanks for the questions! I really look forward to playing in the NFL and hopefully for your favorite team!
