Andy Gresh (2:03 PM)
hello sportsnation freaks. today were touching on nba playoffs, a little baseball and of course some nfl. this is my first time so fire away.
Rob
Guys just wanted to say Orlando first to clinch their series. BOSTON AND DETROIT going to at least 6. UndeRestimated superman and give too much credit to the old dogs.
Andy Gresh (2:06 PM)
Boston gagged last night. Josh smith was just as good joe johnson. the question is, did joe johson have the best performance of the playoffs last night??
Rob
I think barry Zito is now the highest paid reliever in mlb history!!!
Andy Gresh (2:07 PM)
zito is by far the biggest disappointment in baseball so far...not even close
JBG (Scranton, PA)
A special guest chatter from the Steel City. So Andy, let's talk puck. Do the Pens restore order and take the Cup this year?
Andy Gresh (2:08 PM)
gotta respond to a fellow pittsburgher....the pens look great. malkin has been the perfect compliment and their goaltending has been great.
Flemming (Copenhagen, Denmark)
Adam Dunn; are you a believer or a hater?
Andy Gresh (2:10 PM)
who do you think I am Seibel?? Dunn is one dimentional. hr's or nothin. not a hater but he is overrated.
JBG (Scranton, PA)
Let's for arugment's sake say that the NBA Finals don't end up with the Lakers playing the Celtics. Are we talking tv ratings rivaling Cop Rock then?
Andy Gresh (2:11 PM)
I hate the tv ratings debate....very rarely will we be able to compare ratings from 15-20 years ago because of cable television. ask yourself this, how much stuff do you tivo or DVR??
Lane (Kukuihaele, HI)
Do you own any Mindy McCready CDs?
Andy Gresh (2:11 PM)
I only collect pictures ; )
Rob (MS)
For Zito to be a disappointment this season, he would have to be expected to be more than a 10 and 15 pitcher with a mid 5 era. That he wasn't, at least in my mind. Nobody has touched the Kobe 49 and 10 game. He was amazing and this is from someone who doesn't care for him or the team. Great talent will never take it away from him.
Andy Gresh (2:12 PM)
Zito was signed to be an ace regardless of his performance last season....and I love the dwight howard 25-22 game.
Rob (MS)
Oh come on now, If anyone can get ratings from the East, it'd be Superman. He's awesome no doubt. Now he would need Kobe in the series too.
Andy Gresh (2:14 PM)
well if you had a dwight howard-tim duncan finals it would draw....maybe
Brad (Gadsden,Alabama)
How about them hawks can they bring that energy up to Boston Wednesday and win and come back home game 6 and win the series and shock the world?
Andy Gresh (2:16 PM)
I dont think so. garnett will not let them lose game 5 but game 6 WILL be very interesting. If the hawks get to a game 7, god bless em.
JBG (Scranton, PA)
Point taken on the tv ratings so I'll go this route. How does the NBA hype the Finals if they don't get the Lakers/Celtics matchup? Personally, I think the NHL playoffs provide much more enjoyable viewing in terms of action and drama.
Andy Gresh (2:17 PM)
look at it this way think of these matchups.chris paul vs the celts big 3d-will and boozer vs detroits big 4howard vs duncanall of those will sell to fans if guys like paul, howard, and others keep having big performances in the playoffs
Rob (MS)
Duncan is too boring to anyone except a hardcore fan. No big time dunks, no aggression, just a use the glass and hook shot type of player. The lost art in this generation and thats why its lost, its "unwatchable" now.
Andy Gresh (2:19 PM)
I disagree. Any player whos a hall of famer like he is going for a 4th championship is compelling. Its why we watch shaq isnt it??
Rob (MS)
I'm a magic fan so I like all dwights games BUT Kobe dished out for lots of 3's and also made 10 straight himself and most of them were contested, even against Denver's D
Andy Gresh (2:20 PM)
noted but joe jonhson last night showed me what the hawks have a chnace to win game 6 at home.
Jake (VA Beach)
Not gonna happen, but a LBJ vs Kobe Finals would be tre sweet!
Andy Gresh (2:20 PM)
forgot all about lebron. has he had a truly GREAT performance yet in the playoffs??
JBG (Scranton, PA)
Are fans tuning in more for the players or the teams these days though? Does a game involving LeBron outdraw one involving the Spurs? If so then yeah, pushing the individual matchups might work. I also think you have to get some better games in terms of competitiveness though. We got a few last night but overall we've seen a whole bunch of blowouts.
Andy Gresh (2:21 PM)
The other thing too is that we could get a cinderella story thrown in and that always drives ratings. can anyone say george mason. I know it college but you get my point
Lexington,KY
Will Kentucky's Wesley Woodyard make an impact in the NFL?
Andy Gresh (2:22 PM)
WHO?????????????
JBG (Scranton, PA)
I'll give you an NFL item: What do you think about the Fins signing Devone Bess as a FA? Did the kid make a mistake in coming out early or did the Dolphins find a steal on the FA market?
Andy Gresh (2:23 PM)
made a mistake coming out early. while I like what miami did so far, I think the saints are back to being championship contenders
Jake (VA Beach)
Don't know about ONE truly great game, but averaging nearly 30-9-7 is pretty amazing.
Andy Gresh (2:24 PM)
Im a Lebron honk I admit. I think were starting to take him for granted....sadly
Rob (MS)
I will agree with JBG on the competitiveness of the games. Of course, that is mostly expected in 1-8 and 2-7 matchups as with any sport. I think NO/San Antonio will be an extremely compelling second round series in terms of competitiveness and player matchups (see Paul/Parker)
Andy Gresh (2:26 PM)
the reason questions are coming up about a finals that people would watch is because the no 1 and 2 seeds in the east are in danger so maybe its not the teams or plays, but a close series.
JBG (Scranton, PA)
As a Vikes fan I was hoping for someone to push Tavaris Jackson. I think Booty was a solid pick for the 5th round but am not thinking he's the next Tom Brady. Heck, he might not be the next Mike Brady.
Andy Gresh (2:27 PM)
yeah good luck with tavares jackson. Id rather have tito jackson.
Jake (VA Beach)
Think MJ will cut ties with Larry Brown after he resurrects the team but before he wears out his stay like every other previous team?
Andy Gresh (2:29 PM)
its like answering the question, 'how many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie roll tootsie pop? the world may never know'
Andy Gresh (2:33 PM)
All right folks, thats it for me. Thanks for being kind on my first chat. O will be back for the chat tomorrow. Be sure to tune in starting at 3pm eastern for Sportsnation, also available on espn radio.com
