Mark Garrow (3:56 PM)
Good afternoon everyone...let's get the partayyyy started!
Hey Mark; For the 2nd segment of SCC; what about this team: 48,20,24,17,7;i would like to get ky.busch,jr or kvapil but they are to high; who would you suggest for the start of the 2nd segment; what are your top five bargains and who do u think are over priced. Thanks for the help.
Mark Garrow (3:58 PM)
Jason..good to hear from you again man..I can live with that line-up until you get to the 7...Robby hasn't done much..the Dodge teams haven't done much..I think you stay away from there and keep an eye on qualifying and the practices next week prior to the 600 and then join our race day chat and I'll be trying to dig out a low budget driver to look at.
geoffry b (wis)
mark...do you know where I can get ahold of a Boris Said-head wig?
Mark Garrow (3:59 PM)
Geoffry..sorry I don't really know..if there's a Said "wig"..I think people found an Afro wig at a wig store..If you find a place let me know ..I'd like to be a "Said Head".
Marc (Gulfport, MS)
Fantasy chat on an off-points weekend? You are the man! I think the 600 is as unpredictable as a plate race since most 600's come down to fuel. That said, is the 20 a good play next weekend?
Mark Garrow (4:00 PM)
I think the 20 could be a good play..I'd like to get a better sense during practice..but remember this about Tony..when the weather starts warming up so does he..I also don't think the 600 is as unpredictable as a plate race..fuel can be an issue but the faster cars usually rise to the top.
Hey Mark; For my SCC segment 2; how do u like this line up; 48,20,1,17,8; or 18,99,17,8,5; whats the best value's for 2nd segment.
Mark Garrow (4:02 PM)
At first blush Kendrick, I would say you're second line-up is a little better..You've got to have Kyle Busch..The man is red-hot and scoring points in big bunches ..99 is in good shape..Kenseth is starting to come around..if the 5 picks it up you'll be in good shape..when you say 8 you're talking Mark Martin right?..if so you don't get hurt there either.
Hey Mark: do you think that you have got to take busch or edwards for your scc game or will gordon, johnson and stewart be the better in the long run;after looking at the new values, who is the best option for a 5th driver?
Mark Garrow (4:04 PM)
I say stick with Kyle Busch until he starts to cool off..which may be awhile..as far as a 5th driver..I really need to look harder at the values and the first couple of practices next week to give you a really good answer..race day chat will be the key.
In the SCC game; should i lock in the 17,1,24,8; they look like real good value's;
Mark Garrow (4:09 PM)
24 is beginning to smell like they are getting it together..of any body in this group Jeff has the most up side.
Is there a reason why Gibbs racing has surpassed rousch-fenway?
Mark Garrow (4:11 PM)
Yeah..horsepower..Toyota horsepower..lots of it..
Mike (Los Angeles)
Mark, thoughts on the 41 car? I was big on Sorensen at the start of the year and he's disappointed so far. Turnaround coming soon?
Mark Garrow (4:15 PM)
I don't see that coming...Sorenson and the Ganassi team are off balance right now..Dodge is behind the power curve with their engines and that really hurts a team still working on finding the right handling package..As more than one driver has told me.."You can be a real hero when you're handling down the straightaway"..translation..there is no substiture for having more power than the other guy..Crew chief swap Ganassi made, I don't see helping Sorenson all that much..It's going to continue to be a struggle and bad time for Sorenson since this is the last year of his contract with Ganassi..so tellin what happens there.
With the Biff about to leave Roush-Fenway, is Jamie Mac any safer now?
Mark Garrow (4:19 PM)
No doubt that would help Jamie's position...not sure what Biffle is angling for..
Is Elliott Sadler in trouble at GEM? I just don't know why he's struggling so much.
Mark Garrow (4:22 PM)
I think GEM is just behind the curve right now..Kasey Kahne isn't exactly setting the world on fire..part of the deal is the fact they are running Dodges..they have new engines on the way and they can't get here soon enough for them..should starting hitting the track after the midway mark of the season..I don't get a sense that Sadler is in any kind of trouble..who else is GEM going to get?
Mark, love your work! What do you contribute the great runs by Wisconsin's own, Travis Kvapil, to lately (6th,16th & 8th last three races with 5 top 20s in last 6 races)? Can he keep this up the rest of the year considering he's sort of on a shoe string budget?
Mark Garrow (4:23 PM)
Hard to say if they can keep it up..I'd like to think so..Kvapil is a very underrated driver..He can flat get it done..I think they have enough money to keep up a pretty decent effort.
Mike (Los Angeles)
Mark, what do you think is more key to SCC success: finding sleepers early and letting value rise, or picking the best starters each race?
Mark Garrow (4:24 PM)
I'd say go with four big time starters you feel good about and then try to find a low$$ pick that might work for that particular week...
Will Gordon finish in the top 5?
Mark Garrow (4:30 PM)
He's moved back to tenth and has been running like junk..so yeah I think he can finish top-five...no telling if they can jump up and starting winning races though any time soon.
RAY GORDON REID ( JAX FLA 32277)
COMMENT RAY TO MARK GARROW KYLE BUSH TO WIN SAT GOT THAT SONNY
Mark Garrow (4:30 PM)
I agree I think Kyle can win Saturday night..
Environmentally concerned NASCAR fan
NASCAR and other car races waste a lot of gas. Will the teams ever switch to an alternative fuel?
Mark Garrow (4:31 PM)
Not sure..because the government is starting to back away from that because too much corn going to that and not enough in the food chain..so that will delay a NASCAR move.
Where do you see Biffle going next year?
Mark Garrow (4:32 PM)
He keeps saying he wants to stay at Roush..but he hasn't been negotiating with them lately..so no telling what's going on..I know Richard Childress would love to have him for the fourth car.
Mike (Los Angeles)
Best end game driver for my provisional SCC squad: 26, 15, 5, 66?
Mark Garrow (4:35 PM)
I think it comes down to 26 and 5..feel the 5 may have a little more upside.
Ive been waiting for the 88 to get his first win im running out of patience shold i trade him?
Mark Garrow (4:41 PM)
Why?..He's scoring a bunch of points and has been threatening to win a race...He's been gold in my mind..only one really bad race..just because he hasn't won shouldn't be why you base whether or not you trade him..
He Mark, your top 6 at Darlington would have been neaarly perfect if the 16 and 20 didn't have problems. I don't think there is any qustion you know what you are talking about. Which two do you see having better results? 20-88 OR 24-48?
Mark Garrow (4:43 PM)
Andrew, thanks for the kind words..I try to do the best I can and work hard inside the garage on race day. I think right now 20-88 will score a few more points than 24-48..88 has outperformed 24-48 consistently and Tony usually heats up this time of year..
If starting a new team and you had to choose two drivers out of Ragan, McMurray, Hornish or Almirola, who do you choose?
Mark Garrow (4:49 PM)
Ragan and McMurray..don't know if Hornish will get it..and too soon to tell with Almirola..McMurray is getting better now that he knows his job is on the line at Roush.
RAY GORDON REID ( JACKSONVILLE FLA 3277)
RAY TO MARK GARROW THE KYLE BUSH SAT NIGHT T YES OR NO
Mark Garrow (4:50 PM)
Yes, I think it could be.
Craig from Illinois
How often do you second guess yourself when you make your picks each week?
Mark Garrow (4:59 PM)
Always..especially when it comes to the low budget picks...they are the hardest to figure..last week I picked Kvapil over Marlin, which is where a lot of players were going and I said no..Kvapil's the play..that's pressure because if you're right ..you're the hero..if you're wrong ZERO!
Jeffy D (Feeding Hills, MA)
Mark, Just read article on "Yaw" on ESPN...is there anything to this story from a fantasy perspective?
Mark Garrow (5:00 PM)
It certainly is something all the teams are working on..box is so small with COT..I don't think its that big of a deal myself.
WHo do you feel has more upside, McMurray, VIckers or Ragan?
Mark Garrow (5:00 PM)
Definitely Ragan..he's coming and coming fast..
Justin (Sacramento, CA)
i can only use a driver nine times. i have held back back on 48, 20 and 88. when do i start using them?
Mark Garrow (5:03 PM)
I think you've made a mistake holding back on 88...but the 20 and 48 did not run as strong early as they will here coming up.So get in there and start sprinkling those drivers in your line-up..especially the 88...he's been a big chunk of points just about every week.
Lucas: (Greeneville, TN)
Do you think Dale Jr. can stay undefeated in non-points races this year in the All-Star race?
Mark Garrow (5:05 PM)
Lucas, he's got a shot..and he'll be gunning for it hard...doesn't have to care about points and those kind of races turn him on just like it did his dad.
Mike (Los Angeles)
Mark, who are your top risers for the next few weeks?
Mark Garrow (5:08 PM)
As I look at it now..I think that Martin Truex, Jr. has some upside..same thing with teammate Mark Martin when he races..Call me crazy but Casey Mears value is lower than I think it should be...I also can't believe Kurt Busch will continue to run this bad..I'm mean he's not going to jump up and win a race, but still should be finishing around the top-12 -top-15 every and that should help his value..but right now I would say Truex and Mears have the most potential to grow.
Patrick (Agawam MA)
What is the last race of the season was a 12 car Chase only double points race a la the Sat. night short tracks of NASCAR's lower divisions?
Mark Garrow (5:09 PM)
That would be outrageously fun and won't happen..but I love where you're coming from.
Mark Garrow (5:10 PM)
Well folks that's going to do it..we'll have another Fantasy Racing chat next Wednesday and then again next Sunday..race day for the Coca-Cola 600..Until we "chat" again..may the force be with you.
