Buzzmaster (4:18 PM)
Hang on folks, we're getting Mark.
Buzzmaster (4:36 PM)
Sorry folks. Looks like Mark got tied up.
Mark Garrow (4:43 PM)
Okay...folks sorry we're late for the party:)
Mark Garrow (4:44 PM)
House flooded...computer gone. Having to do this via phone with someone else typing so it will be slower and because I don't have any stats it won't be as "meaty" as usual...I'll be up to speed race day Sunday and we'll do our best today.
Mike (Los Angeles)
Mark, based off your last chat and my own speculations, I've got a provisional SCC roster of 18-88-1-8-5. Thoughts?
Mark Garrow (4:45 PM)
Sounds like a pretty good lineup but the one person you need to come thru is Casey Mears. If he can become the top 15 car he should be then that'll work pretty good as long as Martin is driving the 8.
Flynt (St Louis Mo)
In what order would you take Mcmurray, Montoya and Vickers?
Mark Garrow (4:48 PM)
Seems like 26 is beginning to run better so I would take him. When the season started the 83 looked like he was gonna be consistent but that hasn't been the cause. Mcmurray...lousy early but showing signs of respectability. Montoya consistent top 20 type driver right now and crew chief situation is up in the air with Jimmie Elledge being let go this week.
Mike (Los Angeles)
Should I be worried about the Gibbs engines exploding like at the All-Star race?
Mark Garrow (4:49 PM)
Yes. If...they use their own engines like at the AS race and not supplied by Toyota. We'll update during the raceday chat Sunday.
Kenseth gets back on track this week, agree?
Mark Garrow (4:50 PM)
Agree to a point. I think 17 has been running better as of late. Darlington was certainly his bester performance in a long time and he followed that up with a strong AS race. It's hard to say that Kenseth is a "sleeper" going into Sunday but given to what's happened so far this year to him he is. Should be a solid top-10.
Jeffy D (Feeding Hills MA)
Your reaction to Humpy Wheeler...?
Mark Garrow (4:51 PM)
I certainly hate to see him go. One of the giants of the industry...he'll be severely missed.
Is Sorensen in danger of losing his ride, or do you think he will pick it up soon?
Mark Garrow (4:52 PM)
I think his days are numbered...unless he puts together a string of top-15 to top-10 runs over the next several months. Otherwise, he might want to freshen up his resume.
Todd (Sarasota Fl)
Mcmurray has been running pretty good over the last 6 races, should i keep him or try and get Kvapil, who i know i can get
Mark Garrow (4:53 PM)
McMurray is probably a little bit safer than Travis...and has the possibility of being more consistent. There's a bigger effort behind McMurray's car than Kvapil.
Mark, I have 99,88,48, and 8 for the start of the segment in SCC. Who should i go with for my 5th car? he has to be low value...or am i better off balancing my lineup with 88,48, 17, 5, 8?
Mark Garrow (4:55 PM)
I like the balance line up a little better because since the value has been raised on Kvapil and David Ragan there is no clear cut budget pick that jumps out right now. We'll have to get a couple races into this segment to see if anyone steps up in this segment like Kvapil did in segment one.
Todd (Sarasota Fl)
Biffle, Harvick, Bowyer, Newman and Burton, what order do you want these guys over the next few races?
Mark Garrow (4:57 PM)
Biffle, Burton, Newman, Bowyer, Harvick. Biffle is clear #1 choice...Burton's consistency puts him above the others as he's not missed a single lap this season. Biffle right now is very fast and if his car lasts has a chance to run top-5 this Sunday night.
who would you start as a fifth driver this weekend travis kvapil or david ragan
Mark Garrow (4:59 PM)
That's a toughy but you can picture Ragan running top-10 and sneaking a top 5 every once in a while right now. Travis just doesn't have that kind of consistency yet but the team is gathering momentum.
Marc (Gulfport, MS)
Mark-- Who is the better option this weekend, the 16 or 88?
Mark Garrow (5:00 PM)
wow...I can picture the 16 finishing higher than the 88..but..the 88 has been more consistent all season long so the safer pick is the 8..
Mark; For my SCC game: Do u think thats it's a must to put busch and edwards on a team; what about this line up; 18,99,17,8, and the 26 or the 5?
Mark Garrow (5:02 PM)
I can live with that kind of thinking because the 18 and 99 are a must right now. 17 is starting to rebound. 8 should be good for at least a top-15 every time out so then it comes down to the 26 or the 5...lately you have to lean toward the 26...but I like you're thinking.
How can anyone pick the 18, 11, and 20 for this long of race with them now using their own engines? What was wrong with sticking with what Toyota had set up for them?
Mark Garrow (5:03 PM)
That's a good question but they are eventually going to have to use their own stuff and it's something we'll check on very closely for our race day chat. Be sure to tune in Sunday from 1-2pm eastern.
Mark, should I go with Ragan over Kenseth or take Kenseth this week? It is hard to pass up Kenseth when his value is so low...
Mark Garrow (5:04 PM)
I agree...and if the last two races are any indication Kenseth is back into his top-10 form.
Who do you like this weekend Kyle Busch or DEJ.
Mark Garrow (5:05 PM)
Kyle Busch...come on man..he's red hot! But, make sure you tune in Sunday concerning the JGR engines...that could change my opinion.
Bob (New Mexico)
Is jeff gordon for real?
Mark Garrow (5:06 PM)
Don't know yet, but sooner or later he will come back into form but at this point I'm taking a wait and see attitude....so I'm staying away from him for the time being.
Mark; what do u think about this line up for my SCC game;99,48,17,2,8(martin. Or this line up 48,20,6,17, and 8(martin). Is the 6 really going to be this good all year?
Mark Garrow (5:08 PM)
I think the 6 is just going to get better and so on balance I like your second team a little bit better. The first team with the 2 is a bit of a question mark. Busch hasn't shown much this year and just doesn't feel all that solid. So, on balance although there are some question marks on your second team it should be a little bit better.
Brock (Ft Meyers Fl)
I got the 41, what order should i go after the 66, 5, 2, and the 19, or should i stick with the 41 who has been killing me
Mark Garrow (5:09 PM)
Let go of the 41...set yourself free! In that group it comes down to the 5 or the 2...and I probably lean a little bit toward the 5 especially at Charlotte...one of Mears favorite tracks.
MARK;If you had to pick a team right now for the next segment in SCC and only change out the 5th driver, what would that team be. Thanks for the help
Mark Garrow (5:11 PM)
Tough to say right now especially since I don't have my values to look at due to lack of computer. But, that's something we're going to take a hard look at Sunday. Some possibilities...Gilliland, Sadler, Blaney and Riggs. But again we'll dig into that pretty deep Sunday.
Eric (Wautoma, WI)
Good Afternoon Mark....Keep Up The Awesome Work!....I'm picking 4th & 17th (10 people, pick order snakes) in a weekly pick 'em fantasy league and want to know who you think I could target for each pick. I'm hoping for Edwards @ 4 and maybe Kenseth or Ragan at 17. If Edwards is gone what about Hamlin?......Thanks!
Mark Garrow (5:15 PM)
Hamlin would be a good choice or the 88 if available. As for the other pick keep an eye on the 31 as he's not as respected. But if you can snag the 6 or 17 it probably wouldn't be a bad deal.
Mike (Los Angeles)
Did a little more playing around with the SCC values looking for a balanced team and came up with this: 18-16-6-17-8. Does the balance make up for the lack of a strong #2?
Mark Garrow (5:16 PM)
That's not bad.
Mark Garrow (5:18 PM)
Mark, how is the lineup of 88,99,2,8,17 this week for SCC? Is it a good start for segment 2?
Mark Garrow (5:20 PM)
Not bad...the 2 is the biggest question mark in that group and if he gives you a top-15 you should be in really good shape. 8 should run top-10 to 15...17 should be a top-10. 99 is a top 5 and potential winner. 88 should be around the top 5.
Flynt (St Louis Mo)
I thought you said Biffle was a strong number 2. Could you rate Sorrenson, Gilliand, Sadler, Blaney and Riggs or are they all about the same
Mark Garrow (5:21 PM)
16 is going to be very strong in the coming races expect for perhaps Sonoma. As for the rest...they're all about the same. They had good runs lately but not consistently. We'll be digging into those cars during the race day chat Sunday.
What do you think of AJ Allmendinger? Is he worth his low price since he won the Sprint Showdown?
Mark Garrow (5:22 PM)
Not sure. Sprint showdown was against mid-pack to lower competition. Let's see him race against the big boys in the 600 and then decide.
what about blaney, edwards, dale.jr, mark martin, johnson for a lineup im waiting for the gibss engine thing before i make chages
Mark Garrow (5:24 PM)
One good run for Blaney doesn't make him the hands down pick for a low budget driver and he wasn't that impressive in the showdown. So, again let's wait until they get to track and see how they practice and see what the crew chiefs say Sunday.
Bob Macomb Twp, Mi
will joe gibbs racing go back to using toyotas engines or will they use there own like they did at the all star challenge & the effect of even tinkering with what they did
Mark Garrow (5:26 PM)
To get the latest info on that please tune into the chat Sunday from 1-2 eastern
What is the deal at Chip Ganassi Racing? Does Montoya have any chance at making the chase this year?
Mark Garrow (5:26 PM)
No he will not make the chase...sorry.
Hey Mark;in my SCC game, am going to lock in mark martin and kenseth;i want to put the 18 and 20 on my roster also, but the engine problems kind of scared me off; what are u hearing about the engines.
Mark Garrow (5:27 PM)
Again...please tune in Sunday's chat for the latest.
has roush racing past all the problems with engine problems with edwards kenseth & biffle
Mark Garrow (5:28 PM)
Seems like Roush doesn't have any problems. No real worries.
Mark Garrow (5:30 PM)
Again folks...want to invite you into our Sunday chat from 1-2pm eastern. We'll have the latest info from the garage and I'll have my notes...and there WILL be greatness!!! LOL...
