Mendenhall took over the Cougars' program in the 2005 season and immediately led the team to its first bowl game in four years. The following year, Mendenhall's defensive prowess paid off with a 11-2 record, a win over arch-rival Utah and the outright MWC championsip. Last season, the Cougars again won a conference championship and registered a 11-2 record finishing 14th in the final rankings.
Looking to be ranked in the preseason polls for the first since 1997, BYU will kick off their season on August 30 against Northern Iowa.
