Andrew Feldman (4:03 PM)
Hey guys, sorry I'm a couple minutes late, had to go check on the chip leaders. I'm back for another hour, so shoot over your questions!
Phil Gordon
Hey Andrew, wanna trade spots and play for me while I do your chat?
Andrew Feldman (4:04 PM)
Not unless you want to be eliminated within the next hour.
Kevin (Boston, MA)
Andrew, great coverage you are helping all of us wannabe's get through work. How is Joe Hachem doing?
Andrew Feldman (4:04 PM)
Thanks Kevin -- Hachem lasted through dinner last night, but didn't make it through the day. He told me he was upset, but still in a good mood.
"SEAT OPEN!"
Am I being yelled out often in the first hour today?
Andrew Feldman (4:05 PM)
Dealers are getting tired of saying it. Every other second it seems like players are walking out the door, which is common for the first level of each day. That said, play should slow down consierably later on tonight as we approach the bubble.
Phil Hellmuth and Mike Matusow
Which one of us is poised to make a deep run in this years main event?
Andrew Feldman (4:06 PM)
Both of you. I can see Matusow chatting and smiling from here, which means he has a lot of chips. Hellmuth is focused, chatty and slightly bitter today, but what else is new. If I had to choose one of you to move on past today, I'd go Hellmuth.
Johnny Chan
Any chance me and Erik Seidel go heads up again this year for the bracelet?
Andrew Feldman (4:07 PM)
Wouldn't that be cool. Both of you are still alive and both of you know how to navigate this field, but the odds of it happening are probably extremely small.
dwhit110 (Cinci, OH)
Yesterday you mentioned Hellmuth, Hachem, Moneymaker, Antonius and Hansen as guys who could be a "hit" at a final table. Is Hellmuth the only one of those who hasn't hit the rail? Who's on the new list?
Andrew Feldman (4:08 PM)
Moneymaker just busted about a half hour ago. Hellmuth, Hansen and Antonius are still playing now. Today's feature table is Johnny Chan and Jean robert Bellande.
Arnie (Sparta, Wi)
Any big names in chip leader contention?
Andrew Feldman (4:10 PM)
Victor Ramdin, Brandon Adams, Nenad Medic and Robert Mizrachi are the most recognizable at the top.
Patrik Antonius
Check your stas bro, I was knocked at 12:37
Andrew Feldman (4:10 PM)
My bad.
Internet Players
Who of the top notch internet players is having a really good run so far?
Andrew Feldman (4:11 PM)
Adam "Roothlus" Levy is approaching the $300,000 mark after being short to start yesterday's play. Cliff "JohnnyBax" Josephy is also doing well, but this is nothing new fo him as he went deep last year.
Patrik Antonius
It's cool, I'm gonna have a Scotch dry and play High Limit on Full Tilt for the next 12 hours anyways....
Andrew Feldman (4:12 PM)
Have fun.
Steve (PA)
Andrew, if the final table experiment goes well this year, do you forsee the WSOP ME becoming like the NCAA Tourney and having "regionals" in AC, New Orleans, LV, and Indiana?
Andrew Feldman (4:13 PM)
Not yet. I think that the regional qualifying for the main event might occur eventually, but this is the biggest tournament in the world where anyone can buy in and anyone can win. Limiting players the chance to play on poker's biggest stage would not be good for the game.
Mike (Fairfax, VA)
The top Internet players are: Jeff Williams (YellowSub86) Jon Turner (Pearl Jammed) Tim west (TMay420)
Andrew Feldman (4:13 PM)
Turner just lost a big pot.
Bobby Valentine (Japan)
Whats the best pair of sunglasses/face hiding objects you have seen so far?
Andrew Feldman (4:14 PM)
"The King of Satellites" -- A guy wearing a big purple crown with weird sun glasses...
Ray (San Diego, CA)
What do you think of the 21 age limit for Poker in the USA. I know that is the law, but there are many skilled poker players under 21, who are not allowed to participate, yet they can go off and fight a war (sorry to get political). I just think the WSOP would be more competitive if they changed the age rule to 18 and up!
Andrew Feldman (4:16 PM)
I mean, I personally believe that the age for poker should be 18, based on your argument, but I'm going to be critical of that here at the WSOP. Having an 18 year old come to Vegas, drop 10K in the main event and who knows what else while out here just isn't a good idea. I think that the poker world has enough issues as it is, opening it up to 18 just wouldn't be beneficial.
Sarge (Lees Summit, MO)
I never heard any results this year for Dan Harrington. Did he play this year's WSOP?
Andrew Feldman (4:17 PM)
He did play and he did bust.
Antonio Esfandiari
How much have lost in prop bets during the main event?
Andrew Feldman (4:18 PM)
Probably a ton, but what else is new. Betting flop color at the table probably isn't the best idea.
tkoirish(parkland,fl)
players these days are walking billboards. do they have to put up the entry fee or do their sponsors do it for them? what percentage of the winnings do the sponsors get or do they just want the players to wear their stuff
Andrew Feldman (4:19 PM)
Typically players have to put up their own money for these tournaments. They get paid for wearing the logos, but don't share their winnings.
Ryan (NY)
2 more years and this guy's name will be heard of at WSOP. You'll see. Anyway, how has Jean Robert played? Has he brought up the Survivor has made me tougher comment? Also, how many chips does Phil Gordon have. Will he finally do it?
Andrew Feldman (4:20 PM)
He's at our secondary feature table right now so I'm sure that something with Survivor is being discussed. Phil has $160,000 and I hope this is the year that he makes the money and has a nice deep run.
Ricky(Chattanooga, Tn)
Andrew who is at today's featured table and how is brain Schaedlich doing so far?
Andrew Feldman (4:21 PM)
Brian is doing fine. Haven't heard much from his table today, but he's already had to move his gigantic chip stack out of the Red section.
Joe (NYC)
How can the economy be in such bad shape if you have thousands of people spending 10k to play poker?
Andrew Feldman (4:22 PM)
Everyone has dreams and for many of these players, playing in the WSOP is a dream come true. They get to challenge themselves against the best in the world and so instead of taking the $10K, which by the way, many, many players did, they plunked it down. I would say this field would be over 10,000 if certain restrictions didn't exist.
Andy (Midland, TX)
How many ladies are left? Any of them big names?
Andrew Feldman (4:25 PM)
Plenty of ladies left. Evelyn Ng is still kickin, Jose Canseco's girlfriend is also in as is Tiffany Michelle.
Steve (L.A)
What level are they in now and how long does a level last?
Andrew Feldman (4:26 PM)
Starting Day 3 they were in Level 11, blinds 800/$1,600 with a 200 ante. Levels last two hours each. Today is schedule for five levels, but it will continue until the money bubble is burst.
Mike Matusow
You have me out of here before Hellmuth...big mistake, Andrew, big mistake....
Andrew Feldman (4:27 PM)
He's got more chips, sorry Mike. Oh, you're involved in a hand right now too...
Lucas (Columbus, OH)
Shouldn't Schaedlich be at the feature table instead of moving his enormous stack all around?
Andrew Feldman (4:27 PM)
I'm shocked that he isn't, but it is only Day 3. There's plenty of time to get the chip leader on TV.
Paul, NJ
Has Erick Lindgren busted out? I did not see him listed on the day 2 chip counts.
Andrew Feldman (4:28 PM)
Yep. He had a tough table draw with Brandon Adams just a couple seats away. Before their table broke, Lindgren was gone.
Rob - Tournament Director
Am I too busy to chat today?
Andrew Feldman (4:28 PM)
Haha. I'm in the media perch right now, not at the feature table.
Greg (Boston)
Brian's in tough shape, 501 times the big blind means he may have to press soon
Bill (San Diego, CA)
Andrew, are Lon and Norman the only ones covering the action this year for the ESPN broadcasts?
Andrew Feldman (4:29 PM)
That is correct. They've already completed the first two shows, which you can watch a preview of at the WSOP page: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/poker/wsop
Z (Houston, TX)
Did Jared Hamby play in the Main Event? If so, how is/did TheWacoKidd do?
Andrew Feldman (4:29 PM)
I saw Waco on the first day, but haven't seen him since. I honestly don't know if he's in or out, but I'm guessing the latter.
Schaedlich (chip monster)
How come I have to continue to carry all these chips. Can't the floor guy come and chip up all my little biddy biddies?
Andrew Feldman (4:30 PM)
Actually, they help you carry them when you have that many.
Ross (Columbus OH)
I went to High School with Brian Schaedlich and everyone I've talked to back home is in disbelief that this is happening. Heck I played poker with him about a year ago. Loved the column from Gary Wise
Andrew Feldman (4:30 PM)
Who was the better player back then? I met one of Brian's friends last night and he said that Brian always took his money.
Ace Cooler
Are there going to be any cash games or other tournaments going on in November at the WSOP, alongside the Final table?
Andrew Feldman (4:31 PM)
Interesting question. I have to figure that the cash games will be great out here come November and if Harrah's is smart, they'll have some sort of mini-poker series at the Rio during that time.
Andrew Feldman (4:31 PM)
Matusow is getting loud and angry at Eric Crain.
Alan (San Diego, CA)
Andrew, how is Brandon Adams doing today?
Andrew Feldman (4:33 PM)
Even so far. He's got another great table with nobody else recognizable. Plus, given his table location, he's not going anywhere for a while.
Mikey (Philly)
Been up to the Voodoo Lounge yet? The view up there is nice (and the strip doesn't look too bad from up there either)?
Andrew Feldman (4:34 PM)
Had a great dinner at Voo Doo steak which recently opened. Sit out and eat 50 floors up, real cool place.
Larry (VA)
What happened with Matusow and Crain?
Andrew Feldman (4:34 PM)
Mike's mad that Eric keeps stealing his blinds. "FOUR TIMES ALREADY!"
Doyle Brunson
I heard they are adding 3 bracelet events next year. I need to catch Phil soon, any chance one of them will be World Championship Badugi?
Andrew Feldman (4:35 PM)
The Commissioner said a few more events, but no further description. I bet we'll see a bigger buy-in hold 'em -- like a $25 or $50,000...
Dr. Feelgood
Any feel good stories left in the field like last year when the blind guy and the really old guy made it pretty far?
Andrew Feldman (4:36 PM)
You'll wait and see. There are some great stories out there this year. You can watch them Tuesday nights on ESPN...
Brad (San Francisco)
Andrew, I looked over ESPN's broadcasting of the Series, and they only had 2 Hours of the 50K HORSE Event. What gives?
Andrew Feldman (4:36 PM)
Although I hate to say this, some viewers don't care about the skill of the mixed games. They like to keep it simple and enjoy watching what they know.
iamageek (IN)
Andrew, How is your WSOP Academy instructor buddy Alex holding up? Is he building or maintaining his stack?
Andrew Feldman (4:37 PM)
He was third in chips entering today's play. Alex Outhred is loving life right now and has slapped a nice PokerStars.net logo on himself...
Andrew Feldman (4:37 PM)
You can listen to Alex on the Poker Edge Podcast today. Download off the site or iTunes.
Joel (Bloomington IL)
I saw Chuck Liddell was at one of the feature tables. How did he do?
Andrew Feldman (4:38 PM)
Not too good. Chuck is a one player I dont want to put a bad beat on, but he wasn't really playing very well....Good PR for him though I think. Lots of poker fans love MMA.
Tyler (Brookings, SD)
Andrew, any chance Phil Hellmuth's youngest player to win a bracelet record gets broken this year?
Andrew Feldman (4:39 PM)
It is still too early to tell. The field is still over 1,100 pepole and their stories wont come out for a couple more days.
Andrew Feldman (4:40 PM)
Jose Canseco's girl just dumped over $100K to another player. She gone.
Chris Moneymaker
Why do I suck so much on televised tournaments?
Andrew Feldman (4:41 PM)
I heard you won a pretty big one in 2003...
B Lankford (Austin)
I want to play poker for a living, where can I get some lessons or a teacher, because right now I cant beat the .01/.02 nl online games...
Andrew Feldman (4:41 PM)
Find a poker mentor or go to one of the poker training camps -- wsopa.com or wptbootcamp.com
derek, minnesota
hows allen cunningham doing?
Andrew Feldman (4:41 PM)
Hopefully playing better than yesterday, but he's still hanging in.
PJ(Chicago, IL )
How is Alex Kravchenko holding up today?
Andrew Feldman (4:43 PM)
Looking as stoic as ever. I'm not sure if he blinks...or even breathes. If there was a picture of a poker face to learn how to mimic, it would be his.
The Olympics
How long until poker is an olympic sport?
Andrew Feldman (4:44 PM)
Never.
Robet K, Buxton, ND
Any thoughts of raising the buy in on the main even tin the future?
Andrew Feldman (4:44 PM)
I had an interesting coversation with Jeffrey Pollack the other night and he said that if we didn't hit last year's number, there would be a good chance that the buy-in would be raised. However, up by 500 players, I don't see it happening.
Dutch Boyd
What happened to me?
Andrew Feldman (4:46 PM)
I just saw you....with a media badge doing an interview with Nolan Dalla...
Ryan (NY)
Kravchenkos is good, but it can not be better than Jesus'. You can not get a read on that man. What's the latest update on Evelyn Ng? She could have what it takes to take it all the way, at least to final table.
Andrew Feldman (4:48 PM)
She took a small beat earlier today, but still doing well.
Justin (Denver)
Is the gernal sense around there that if you don't have $100k, then you have to push? I just can't believe all those people would be busting when they could be patient with 30k.
Andrew Feldman (4:49 PM)
You have no idea. People just get worried that they aren't doing as well as others in the event and start to press. There is plenty of time with this blind structure, but they get caught up in the fact that the chip leader has $500,000 more than them.
Andy (Deerfield,IL)
You heard it here first...Gus Hansen takes down the title this year
Josh (MI)
Are the pros making any moves today?
Andrew Feldman (4:51 PM)
Jeremiah Smith continues to accumulate chips. Remember his name.
Sheets (ny)
hey - how's bax doing?
Andrew Feldman (4:52 PM)
Stealing blinds and antes as always. He had a mound of black chips last night unlike anyone else. Just taking down pots preflop to pad his stack.
Alan (San Diego, CA)
Andrew, any articles or blogs coming out today from you or Gary?
Andrew Feldman (4:52 PM)
Gary: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/poker/columns/story?columnist=wise_gary&id=3481799
Andrew Feldman (4:52 PM)
My blog will be posted shortly.
Adam (New York, NY)
When play is down to "hand for hand" how does the tourney director keep track of all of the tables?
Andrew Feldman (4:53 PM)
After every hand, the dealer stands up from the table. When all dealers are standing, play then resumes. The tournament director is on the mic often getting counts of tables left.
Frank (Boston)
How far will Medic go? I think hes the player to fear at the table
Andrew Feldman (4:54 PM)
I love his chances for a deep run with the position he is in. He won his first bracelet this year, but everyone knows he has the talent to win more.
Kyle (Dayton, OH)
Whats the over/under number on recognizable Pro's at the final table?
Chris Ferguson
I haven't seen any news on me this whole main event, did I bust out super early?
Andrew Feldman (4:56 PM)
Not real early, but for you, early. Everyone was looking for another deep run, but hey, winning one major tournament is probably enough for you this year.
Andrew Feldman (4:57 PM)
My blog has just been posted: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?entryID=3481943&name=poker
Future Bubble Boy
I know in some years, they give me an entry to next year's main event, do you think this year they can just give me $10000 in gas cards instead?
Andrew Feldman (4:58 PM)
I actually don't know if they'll give a seat away to next year to this year's bubble boy, but we'll find out at some point today (or early tomorrow)
Dan (Nutley, NJ)
Once the final table is set, will the sportsbooks carry odds on who will win?
Andrew Feldman (4:59 PM)
I have to figure they would. If you can bet on the election, why couldn't you bet on the WSOP?
Not Stinky
What would you do, if at a tournament you were seated next to someone with very strong body odor? At a cash game, you can switch seats or leave, but in a tourney, what would you do? I'm talking about BO that makes your eyes tear.
Andrew Feldman (5:00 PM)
Oh man. This year is the worst in that regard. I'm not kidding, I couldn't even walk through some tables yesterday it was that brutal. Players, please shower.
Andrew Feldman (5:01 PM)
OK, I'm outta here. I'll be back tomorrow to answer all your questions, but in the meantime, check out ESPN.com and listen to the Poker Edge podcast for more WSOP coverage.
