Amy Nelson (8:55 AM)
Hello, everyone. I'll be back here in about an hour to start the chat. We have Stephen A. Smith in the house today, along with Skip Bayless. Send in any questions or comments you may have and I'll be reading some on the air.
Josh (Texas)
What a week. Women fighting everywhere. You're not going to beat anybody down today are you Amy?
Amy Nelson (10:04 AM)
Nope, I'm keeping my emotions under control today guys. Let's get it started...
George (Austin)
Is it tampering on the Vikings part if Brett Farve called them on his cell phone???
Amy Nelson (10:05 AM)
yes i believe so because there were multiple calls...so they took them.
Monty-IA
Amy, Do you think the NL Central race will go down as one of the best in history?
Amy Nelson (10:06 AM)
we'll see but if the cards stay in it it could be a really exciting race...
Jake (Syracuse)
Amy is Billy Wagner available tonight?
Amy Nelson (10:07 AM)
jake not sure but my guess would be no. though knowing billy, he'll want to be out there especially after last night
George (Austin)
just because they took the calls does not mean they made any to farve
Amy Nelson (10:07 AM)
doesn't matter, i'm sure you could see how long those calls were
Zach Rastall (Marinette, WI)
Amy, will the Brew Crew ever cool down? They have their two best pitching the final games against the Cards.
Amy Nelson (10:08 AM)
such an intersting team now, and man, if they can get sherrill...that would make them i think the favorite.
David (Norwalk)
Amy now that the Yankees look like the Yankees do you like thier chances to make the postseason now?
Amy Nelson (10:08 AM)
like their chances still, never say never with that team.
Mike (Minnesota)
Can't blame the Vikings for trying.... they really need him
Rick ((Miami, Fl.))
Amy, where do you think Brett Favre will Ultimately be playing for in 2008??? Which teams need him the most.
Amy Nelson (10:09 AM)
i'm not an NFL expert, man but i wonder if he'll go to Tampa?
Bryon (wisconsin)
with the brewers finally getting national pub can brett favre story just go away?
Jake (Syracuse)
The Mets need him even though he hasnt been great himself either, any chance they go after the lefty from Colorado, drawing a blank on his name?
Amy Nelson (10:11 AM)
fuentes ... i think there'll be stiff competition for fuentes and rockies are askign a lot
Mitch (Cincinnati)
Do the Reds have absolutely any chance to make a run at the Wild Card this season?
Amy Nelson (10:11 AM)
no. do you know what division their in? not like it will be a light schedule down the stretch.
Josh (Texas)
I can't believe that the Bucs are crazy enough to even talk about a trade for Favre. It's going to be Jake Plummer all over again.
Andrew (-Miami )
what do think the chances are that the Marlins make the playoffs
Amy Nelson (10:12 AM)
it's unbelievable to me that they're still in it. so i don't think it's out of the question.
David (Norwalk CT)
with farve it makes the bucs a contender for the NFC championship game
Mike (Minnesota)
I doubt he will go anywhere but Tampa because the AFC doesn't seem to have much interest and the Packers don't want Favre on a rival NFC team.
John (Berea, OH)
Seriously, Skip getting all giddy about Bret Farve every time his name comes up is starting to irritate me. This needs to go away, Bret should not come back in the league. All of this is ruining him in my mind. Move on Bret, the Packers and even the Green Bay Fans are trying to ... you should to
Paul (Indianapolis, IN)
Goodell needs to get involved because we are less than a week from camps opening and Farve is the bigger story than the entire league.
Joe W. (Farmville, VA)
How much of a bribe would it take for First Take NOT to talk about Brett Favre?
Amy Nelson (10:14 AM)
hmmm, not that i'm in control of these things but i'm willing to listen to offers...
Josh (Texas)
Thank you Stephen A. I'm sick and tired of the media kissing up to Favre when he's at fault for this mess.
Bryon (wisconsin)
i'm a die hard packer fan and i agree with stephen a. favre is being a baby and i'm tired of this story
tom (jasper georgia)
People say history repeats itself. I think that Bret Farve should goto the Falcons. That way they can make 2 mistakes with Bret. One for giving him up on him to early and the second for giving Arthur Blanc giving him to much money for a old quarterback.
Brett Favre (Green Bay (I wish))
But I have the itch!! You try denying the itch!
dennis (pa)
as my phillies came back last night i thought about skip and how right he is about " OUR" phillies and how stewart twins are so frustrated knowing hes right.
Paul (Indianapolis, IN)
Goodell, the President, the Pope, will someone, anyone, step end to end this days of our Farve soup opera.
ted thompson (green bay)
I hate you Brett
Bo (Canton, OH)
The mets will blow it just like they did last year and i dont think anyone had forgot about that
Blake (Georgia)
It would be a great story to have Favre go back to Atl to end his career
Chase (Boca Raton)
My Marlins own the phillies this year, beat us or we will win the division
John (Arlington)
Do you think that the texas rangers with jash hamilton catch the angels in the AL West
Amy Nelson (10:19 AM)
no
Kevin (New York)
Definitly the Mets blew it last season, they blew it last night and i dont see why they wont miss the playoffs
Alonzo (Macon, Ga)
The NL East is such a lame division. Each team has a major weakness so its going to go down to the wire between the Phils, Mets and Fish. The division of ineptitude, neither team can bust a grape.
David (Norwalk CT)
Now that the Yankees strung out 9 in a row at home and that the hitting looks like Yankee hitting and one of the best bullpens in the bigs is anyone giving them a chance
Amy Nelson (10:20 AM)
i think plenty of people are giving them a chance...
Josh (Texas)
And I gotta say I've gained even more respect for the majority of Packers fans because they don't even kiss up to Favre like this. Favre fans and Packer fans are 2 different types of fans. We'll find out who's who if the Packers do trade him away.
Cris (Louisville, KY)
With a bullpen like that, the Mets aren't making playoffs.
David Cincinnati, OH
The way Aaron Rodgers is handling this is making me think he'll be a really good player in this league for some team. And to think I was real sour on him when he came out of Cal.
Jon Gruden (Tampa)
Brett Favre, come on down!
Paul (Indianapolis, IN)
The Mets are showing with these past two season that you can have 100+ million payroll but that doesn't buy you clutch in pressure situations
J.P. (Bristol CT)
Santana pitched a great game last night, he came out after 105 pitches after 8 innings. Jerry M made the right decision! This is why you have a bullpen, to relieve the starter. Do your job bullpen close out the game wagner or not!
Paul (Indianapolis, IN)
The only way the Mets will make the playoffs is if you kick the division winner of the NL West out for a sub-par 500 record and allow the Mets to take their place.
daniel (fayetteville,NC)
hey the way the NL East is playing right now the Washington Nationals could catch all of them by the end of the season
Amy Nelson (10:24 AM)
daniel hmmmmm dont think so.
chase utley (pa)
Am i the best all-around 2nd baseman in the league? Did you see my diving snag last night....
Amy Nelson (10:24 AM)
chase ... think so. you were the starter for the NL at all-star game, obviously that should say it all.
Joe (NY)
The mets haven't had a clutch player since they had Nolan Ryan on the mound.
Mike (Minnesota)
Should be fun to watch Aaron Rodgers. I am extremly impressed at how well he has kept his mouth shut. Most athletes just can't do that.
Ted Thompson (Green Bay)
ESPN is foolish! I am not trading Brett! Im looking for a sucker to trade for Rodgers!
Kevin (New York)
The Mets are a team that can always blow a big lead, weather last sieason or last night, The mets are too inconsistant to make it to the playoffs.
Alec (Alabama)
The Mets winning streak was a fluke. They are not for real. They get a great outing from Santana and they didn't win. Wasn't he suppost to win the Cy Young this year.
Brandon Phillips Cincinnati, OH
I don't know Amy, I'm a pretty good 2nd baseman too. Didn't you see my backhanded throwout at first base a couple days ago?
Amy Nelson (10:26 AM)
very underrated, you are, brandon
Rick McHorn (Detrot)
Didnt Lisa Leslie know I was a Bad Boy?
Jake (Syracuse)
Doc Gooden, Darryl Strawberry, Mookie Wilson were pretty clutch in the day
Jake (Syracuse)
Im happy there talking aboot Favre, keeps the bad press away from the Mets
Alonzo (Macon, Ga)
I bet Aaron Rodgers, Tavaris Jackson and Jeff Garcia are sweating bullets right now. Somebody is going to lose a job in a few weeks.
Kev (NYC)
Speaking of 2b, Does anyone see Cano, a .339 career hitter in the 2nd half (2nd only to Pujols in the 2nd Half since 2005) is leading the Yanks back atop the AL East
Plenette Pierson (Detrot)
Who cares about Candance Parker? I pitty that fool!
Jeremey(Louisville, KY.)
Rick Mahorn should not have been out there, he weighs 300 lbs. pushing a women. If thats your wife thats domestic violence and you go to jail.
Jake (Syracuse)
Thanks Amy for the love
Amy Nelson (10:32 AM)
no problem...
dennis (pa)
you ask anyone i bet theyd take chase utley over any other 2nd baseman
Rick ((Miami, Florida))
Amy, would you ever consider covering an NFL Game or is Baseball your true love in sports.
Amy Nelson (10:33 AM)
i've covered the NFL before, back in my early days i did nto enjoy it at all. we're privlidged to get the access we get with baseball players. i much prefer to watch football from home
dan (nj)
i think people are making a big deal out of this Mahorn/lisa leslie thing he was trying to break up a brawl he didnt go take an intentional swing at the lady.
Josh (Texas)
It should be called the Malice in the Palace Part 2.
Jake (Syracuse)
Rick Mahorn didnt do anything wrong, it actually looks like Lisa Leslie tried to hit him and fell backwards herself
Adam (Philly)
i like kinsler but the chaser is the best
john (houston)
Rick Mahorn need to be suspended indefinitely not for the push but his comment of "I was trying to stop the girls from hurting themselves"
Steve (Florida)
cotto wins by k.o. in the 8th round.
Christopher (San Antonio)
I'd rather have Pedroia. His is having a monster second season. Did anyone see the play he made on Monday night against Ichiro?
Anthony (Toledo, Ohio)
Amy, why is everyone pointing the finger at Jerry Manuel for pulling Santana in the amazing comeback from the Phillies. I mean I am a HUGE PHILLIES fan but he did all the right things no matter how great Santana was throwing he was trying to save an arm and not over use him because of pitch count. He trusted and believed in his bullpen to get 3 outs with or without Wagner. If your in the big leagues your bullpen should be able to do that to close a game. No doubt!!
Amy Nelson (10:37 AM)
easiest move to critisize in retrospect. santana should have pushed to go back out there if he really wanted to. you think pedro would have stopped from going out there back in his day? not unless there were injury issues, but i dont know the mets conversations in the dugout.
Adam (Philly)
People are talking about they mets what last nite will do but what about the phillies this could be the spark they needed and runaway with the divsion
Amy Nelson (10:38 AM)
we'll see, i'm not ready to annoint last night;s game as the turning point of the season
Carl B (Coralville,Ia)
If he didn't the brawl would have probably been a lot worse.
Jake (Syracuse)
Christopher from San Antonio should be banned from everything, Pedroia over Utley, you cant be serious.
Anthony (Detroit, MI)
I think Rick was tryn to place peacemaker, but he's just too big...LOL at Michael Cooper
Kevin (New York)
So now the cat fights are getting TV time?
Amy Nelson (10:39 AM)
what are you talking about? they are athletes and every time there's a fight in professional sports it gets airtime. why do we have to call it a catfight?
Chris (Lewisville)
Amy, do you really thing the cardnials would win their division without a trade
Amy Nelson (10:39 AM)
no
daniel (philadelphia)
im a phillies fan and i hope we win the series but im more worried about the slugging fish from florida not far behind
Amy Nelson (10:39 AM)
that's intersting ... why?
daniel (philadelphia)
those women are over six feet tall ...thats hardly a cat fight thats grown adults fighting
David Stern (NYC)
Ok, I confess. I staged the fight so that people would remember that we have a WNBA
Amy Nelson (10:40 AM)
thanks for checking in, commissioner.
dennis (aston,pa)
im a big phillies fan and i hate the mets but jerry manuel did right thing just because your major league pitches doesnt get his job done doesnt mean its the managers fault
Clint (College Station, TX)
If there aren't big fines and suspensions, then something is wrong.
Jordan West Hartford, CT
Do you believe that the WNBA players involved in the brawl should be suspended? I didn't think the brawl was too out of hand, I just feel like they're all blowing it up because women actually fought eachother for once.
Amy Nelson (10:41 AM)
sure, would any other athlete be susupended?
wayne (bristol,WI)
do u think that the angels could win the league and the world series?
Amy Nelson (10:42 AM)
def think they could win the pennant, and why not? though the past few years they have limped in the playoffs...
daniel (philadelphia)
the marlins have the offense to win games in the nl and they have the lack of pressure that the mets never have
Bobby John, (Oshkosh, WI)
Why should Green Bay trade Farve at all? He is under contract and has his bonus money already. And a contract should be a contract.
Amy Nelson (10:43 AM)
think it's a little more complicated than that...
Mike (Brooklyn)
Amy thanks for seeing the big picture regarding last night's Mets game. Tough loss, no doubt, but it's not going to be a turning point in either team's season.
Amy Nelson (10:44 AM)
well, i think it could be, but to label it that at this stage, is far too premature. usually you can't determine a turning point until the end of the season (or if a team goes on a ridiculous late-season roll)
Ted (Flossmoor, IL)
Amy, who do you like in the sorry NL West?
Amy Nelson (10:45 AM)
ugh. dbacks, i think. not pretty division
John (Tampa,FL)
Amy how do you think people would have reacted if in 1999 Michael Jordan decided to come out of retirement and the Bulls said they have moved on but you can come and be a back up?
Amy Nelson (10:45 AM)
someone wrote in to ask stephen a smith the same thing ... i'll ask him later.
Mike (Ohio)
Of course it's not the turning point. The Mets wait until September to truly blow it
clay (louisville)
the mets are in big trouble because, the phillies as skip said are amazing and when you can't hold a big lead like that your not going to the playoffs. Who do you want howard, utely, and rolins or cry baby wagner, carlos not worth contract beltran, and never no money making yooooohan santana
Brain Casman (NY NY)
I think Hank will fire me after this season because I cant find any good pitchers to waste money on!
Amy Nelson (10:46 AM)
we'll see brian...you could be going elsewhere if you so choose...
David Cincinnati, OH
With all due respect to Favre, he's no Michael Jordan.
Bobby John, (Oshkosh, WI)
If Thompson and Farve could get over each of their egos, something might get resolved here. The two of them should get a mediator like a Mike Holgrem to settle this. If bottom line is a successful season, with which QB does Green Bay stand a better chance to win with?
matt (pittsburgh)
I could be wrong, but it looked to me like either Lisa Leslie or the girl next to her threw a punch at Mahorn and he just pushed them back to keep from being punched in the face.
Amy Nelson (10:47 AM)
didnt see it...
daniel (philadelphia)
i bet if marino had come back the dolphins wouldnt have minded one bit...
kevin (NYC)
Michael Jordan 6 > Farve 1
Mike (Philadelphia, PA)
The Phillies will run away with the NL East. The Mets could not overtake the Phillies with their best winning stretch of the year so they will never overtake the Phillies this year.
Ryan Mitchell from Pittsburgh, PA
Why aren't any AL teams in MLB trying to sign one of, if not the best power hitters in history of the game, MR Barry Bonds to DH there team? Regardless of any allegations he can come in and help any club just his presence is enough. Im a yankee and pirate fan yanks could of pulled it off but i would love barry back in the Burgh but its pointless for him to come back to a non-contender and as a everyday OF
Amy Nelson (10:48 AM)
i think only team that could pull that off would be yankees, in terms of clubhouse distrations, they usually are never deterred by it.
Damon (Philadelphia)
The punch that Leslie threw was a weak punch since she was moving backwards, but a punch nonetheless
Michael Jordan (Charlotte)
The Bulls told me they were moving on after winning three straight championshps. We all know they were cheap!
Alonzo (Macon, Ga)
I agree with Mike from Brooklyn, one meltdown game in July is not going to determine this weak division. At this point I would not be surprised if The Marlins sneak in and steal the division. Outside of the Cubs and possibly the Brewers, there are no other credible World Series contenders from the NL.
Carl B (Coralville,Ia)
you don't need to waste money on good pitching you just need to know where to look
Anthony (Detroit, MI)
Why is it that the only way WNBA can get some airtime is that of another malice at the Palace?
Amy Nelson (10:50 AM)
because that's how it works...
bailey (abilene, tx)
am i the only one that sees that the wnba fight was a blessing in disguise. we all know the wnba is a descending league in the shadow of the nba. granted its tragic that the brawl had to happen but the fact that it got more attention to the wnba is good for the league in the long run
daniel (philadelphia)
brett favre is not jordan..he did not win the super bowl last year..and actually before last year he had put together a string of not great years...i wonder why we all just assume that of the good and bad years bretts had that this year would be a great one...what are the odds he'd have a year as good as last?13-3, 4000 yards..broken records..the odds are slim so then whats the point
Jade (Tennessee)
It's ridiculous that there is even a discussion on brett favre.. he is without a doubt the best quarterback. Why would the packers give him up. Aaron Rogers should stay yes but he can't make the packers the team favre can
dennis (pa)
alonzo from georgia is crazy i believe the phillies have the line up to make it to the world series
Dave (Jacksonville, FL)
The Yankees will NOT pick up Barry. They don't need any more bad pub about admitted/suspected PED users.
Amy Nelson (10:51 AM)
because the bad pub previously has hurt their gate? don't think that matters...
Tommy John (Florida)
Will Josh Johnson be able to sustain his arm after having to recover from my surgery for the last two seasons? I think the Marlins can make a another World Series run if he does.
Amy Nelson (10:51 AM)
he's supposed to be back. we'll see
Josh (Texas)
Last I checked, Jordan didn't ruin 2 years worth of draft picks because his team thought that he would stayed retired and last I checked Jordan doesn't choke in the playoffs.
kevin (NYC)
this michael jordon bret favre comparison must stop.... we are talking about the greatest player to ever play the game at ANY position (Jordon) in a game where one man can determine a game and one of the best players ever at the qb position which is 1 of 22 starting positions....
Chris (East Lansing)
Lisa Leslie has always been a good basketball player, but she should sign a contract with the Spurs after that flop. Mahorn barely used force and if you can break your fall, you didn't get pushed hard. There aren't too many brawls in the WNBA, you have to realize if you attempt to get involved in one, there's a good chance you will hit the floor.
Calvin Rochester MN
Should the Packers think about trading Aaron Rodgers, instead of Brett Favre? Rodgers could be traded for some value, and help another team elsewhere. They did draft a guy named Brian Brohm, who would have been a first round pick last year. Could he be the one to take over for favre when he officially retires?
DAN (NJ)
who needs barry bonds we got A-Rod and Madonna!
Clint (College Station, TX)
Whoever does end up picking up Bonds will be sorry they did. Write it down.
Amy Nelson (10:53 AM)
dont think it will happen, anyway.
Alonzo (Macon, Ga)
You can't compare Favre to MJ on any level. I've never understood this love affair with Favre. He has as many championships as Trent Dilfer and half as many as JIM PLUNKETT for crying out loud! The only difference is he put up some huge numbers. Hank Aaron has more home runs and RBI's than Mays but everyone considers Mays the better player so huge numbers only mean so much. Favre was a great QB but he is not worth this media frenzy.
daniel (philadelphia)
the greatest player was jordan not jordon
Dave (Jacksonville, FL)
Amy, if they picked up Barry that attention will completely implode this forward progress that the team is actually making. It's not about the gate, its about the push.
Amy Nelson (10:54 AM)
as i was saying, the yankees never need worry about that gate. not their concern, either way.
Wingo (Deptford, NJ)
How about those New York Mutts? Was that an Instant Classic last night or what? The biggest choke by a New York teams since, well, since 7-Up With 17 To Play...
Fransico (Minneapolis)
I have been unhittable in triple A in my last 12 starts why am i not in the bigs yet?
Amy Nelson (10:56 AM)
francisco, great question ... part of it is service time, part of it is that the twins were very unhappy by your attitude in spring training and early part of the season. other part is that they've got a solid rotation rigth now, though oneo f those guys could be replaced if they continue to struggle
Damon (Philadelphia)
It's about winning, Dave. And if Cashman thinks that Bonds will help them win, then he should take a shot.
Adam (Philly)
The philies have the mets number they know it david wright know's it billy wagner know's it heck mr.met know it its are's its over know you had yall chance when we was fallin you gave us the spark we needed were gonna sweep yall and worry about the marlins
Amy Nelson (10:58 AM)
oh i just saw this, mahorn so did not shove lisa leslie
Dave (Jacksonville, FL)
Damon, thats the point exactly. It would be counter-productive.
Alonzo (Macon, Ga)
I'm not crazy, I just know baseball. The Phillies don't have the pitching to beat the Cubs, Brewers or any AL team.
Tyler (Tucson)
Why does one loss by the Mets seem to be getting more attention than their 10 game winning streak?
Amy Nelson (10:59 AM)
because of who it was against, and how it happened.
Chris (Columbus, OH)
The ones who should get punished are the 3 players that tried to shove and punch Mahorn after he "pushed" Leslie.
Flemming (Copenhagen, Denmark)
Livan should be kicked out of that rotation right now......
Josh (Texas)
The only thing Mahorn did wrong was pulling the opposing teammates away instead of his own team.
Clint (College Station, TX)
I think Skip just nailed it on the head. "Lets treat the women just like we treat the men."
Mark (NJ)
This is the most publicity the WNBA has ever got!
Aaron (Va)
i think that skip is off on the treat the men and women the same. Lets face it they are women. They can run fast shoot and all that but they are not genetically built the same as men. men have been brawling since the begining of it all. I think that although mahorn didn't do what lisa leslie acted like, he had no reason to be on the court
caleb (nashville)
i blame the incident on the refs b/c they could have stopped the entire thing before it happened at the other end of the court
Josh (Texas)
Wow. Josh Childress would rather play in Greece than play for the Hawks. That is funny.
Wingo (Deptford, NJ)
How about Ed Wade trading for that stiff Randy Wolf? 10 games out of a wild card, and Ed Wade needs a pitcher who hasn't won outside Petco since like April...
Amy Nelson (11:05 AM)
strange...
Alonzo (Macon, Ga)
Can we get someone from the WNBA to punch Danica Patrick?
Danica (IRL)
They would have to catch me first. Im pretty fast.
Andrew (-Miami)
josh is an ok player but why greece, if i were him i would stay in the NBA, why go to a different country
Alonzo (Macon, Ga)
Do you think that the league officials are secretly happy about last night's brawl between the Shock and the Sparks? Especially since it featured Candace Paker, Lisa Leslie and Rick Mahorn. The WNBA is finally getting some lead exposure.
Amy Nelson (11:09 AM)
i think the old refrain, there's no such thign as bad pr, could apply here..
Dan Uggla (Miami)
Despite my terrible AllStar Game, I have less errors than Chase Utley and I hit real homers in stadium, not in a little league field in Phily.
Flemming (Copenhagen, Denmark)
I know there's more to being a GM than trading players, but at this point anyone in here could do a better job than Ed Wade.
Ted (Flossmoor, IL)
Greek women, baby. Greek women.
Mark (NJ)
Its all about the $$$$ duh. You think Elton Brand thinks philly is a contentor?
New A.I (Philly)
we are a contender with miller me and now brand thats the big 3 we need remember we played detriot well and now one gave us a chance
Aaron (va)
dan uggla, you need to start performing and stop talking. I am tired of trying to trade you on my fantasy team. either start performing or i will just drop you and start over
Brett Favre (Green Bay)
Please lay off of me guys, i really want to play next year. Ted Thompson is an evil person.
Rich, Pawtucket, RI
In response to Tom from Jasper, GA earlier I'd rather have Old Reliable Favre than almost any other Young Pup out there.
Chipper Jones (MLB)
I'm retiring after i hit .400 this season
Josh (Texas)
I would trade a 3rd round pick for you Favre. Anything more is just insane no matter how you can spin it.
Ted (Flossmoor, IL)
I disagree, Amy. I think most men won't watch the WNBA no matter what, and I think more than any other pro sport except for MLS, the WNBA relies on families attending.
Christopher (San Antonio)
A majority of the population believe that there are huge gaps in the competition and athletic ability between men and women sports. That is why I believe there are no mainstream women's sports and why I feel the "brawl" will do nothing except limit the possiblity of another altercation involving both genders. Next week after the suspensions are given out, this will be forgotten until the next time the two teams play and ESPN re-airs the footage and beats it to death.
Carl B (Coralville,Ia)
Brett let the Packers move on and see what they got in Rodgers.
Jeremy (Coral Springs)
1st time chatter, long time viewer.. this is entertaining!
daniel (philadelphia)
the chipper hitting 400 talk should be all but over now..i mean its not happening
Amy Nelson (11:18 AM)
chipper said as much...
Ted Williams' Head (Freezer)
No one is hitting 400 again.
Damon (Philadelphia)
A first round pick for Bret? Now I know that Skip is off the reservation and not taking his meds.
Justin Morneau (Minneapolis)
I will win my 2nd MVP award this year
Stephen A. Smith (First Take)
Why is Skip right 100% of the time?
Amy Nelson (11:25 AM)
hmmmm
daniel (philadelphia)
hey amy im a loyal chatter....i mean alonzo also said we should get someone to punch danica patrick.
Amy Nelson (11:26 AM)
yes, but i didnt read that one. i think alonzo was being tongue-in-cheek ...
Aaron (va)
thanks for the love amy
Christopher (San Antonio)
Just noticed that MMA fighter and U.S. Marine 1st Lt Brian Stann will be chatting at 12:30. As a former Marine and a huge MMA fan, I thank Lt. Stann for his service, both in the Marines and also in the octagon! Semper Fi!
Wingo (Deptford, NJ)
Please, I worked as a bouncer for years, and you'd see women fighting on a nightly basis. Get over it. Women have as many shortcomings as men. Let's not pretend one WNBA fight is the Judgement Day of social graces.
Ted (Flossmoor, Il)
This is a star studded chat: Justin Morneau, Brett Favre, Michael Jordan, Danica Patrick, Ted Williams' head. Shoot, even Steve A chats while being on the show.
Amy Nelson (11:28 AM)
it's kind of amazing, isn't it?
Shane (West Chester Ohio)
Is this actually the Bret Favre show. I agree with Steven A. Smith, the media is nuts about this guy. Get over HIM!
Mary Yoblonski (Oshkosh,WI)
In all the discussion about Brett, doesn't anyone remember how Brett plays when he has something to prove? (ie:the Monday Night effort the day after his father passed away?) I think the Packers are seriously underestimating what he has to prove this season. If he goes to another team--he will be determined to show them what they passed up. After all, he went from being one of the most revered players in history--to the brunt of far too many jokes--much of which is re:to the issues he has with Ted. (and in my opinion--most of those are well founded) Would you want to bet against him this season? I wouldn't.
Aaron (va)
Why does everyone keep looking at players words rather than the performance? Brett Favre had one of the best seasons of his life last year. who cares what he says if he performs the way we know he can
Ted (Flossmoor, IL)
I think it's weak that the Detroit fans didn't get involved in the fight this time. They're getting soft.
Andrew (-Miami)
if brett farve goes to florida he should go to miami, we have great weather, and the dolphins need a QB, forget beck,
Jeremy (Coral Springs, FL)
We could also use more than 1 win per year.. come on down brett, you're the next quarterback of the dolphins.
Adrian Peterson (Minneapolis)
It doesn't matter what the Packers do with Brett because the Vikings will win the division either way
Josh (Texas)
Skip has lost his mind. Somebody needs to drug test him immediately. 1st round pick for a rental QB? No freaking way!!!
Aaron (va)
there is no way that brett goes to miami. The big tuna just got rid of one distraction why would he bring in another?
Brian (Memphis)
Listen to Stephen A Smith on the Farve topic. The only reason Farve was effective last year was the insertion of Ryan Grant. Farve is washed up drama queen, who is time has past!
Jonathan (Batesville, MS)
Amy if you look at the small brawl from last night, doesn't it actually look like Lisa took a swing at Mahorn...I'm thinking it was momentum that made Lisa fall
Amy Nelson (11:33 AM)
kind of looked that way to me, though i've only seen it once
Clint (College Station, TX)
Amy, I think you're right, everyone wants to stop talking about Favre but no one will shut up about it.
Amy Nelson (11:34 AM)
listen, i post usually what's smart or original, and what people are writing in about. people keep writing in about favre, many many people
Shane (West Chester Ohio)
I certainly don't want to see Favre with my'Fins, we have had enough of a quarterback merry-go-round.
Devin (va)
Is it possible favre would go to Detroit? They could be in the playoffs soon with a better QB and they have the receivers that favre would like
Alonzo (Macon, Ga)
Yes, I was being tongue-in-cheek. Thanks for making that distinction Amy! Sorry if I offended you Daniel in Philly.
Ty (NewYork)
why cant the packers just come out and say it, the real reason they dont want Favre is because he was on the cover of Madden and they think the curse is going to get him
Amy Nelson (11:36 AM)
my producer steve says he thinks maybe they took him off ... anyone know?
David Cincinnati, OH
Brett Favre Distraction >>>>> Chad Johnson "distraction"
Josh (Texas)
It's gonna get wrose when training camp starts. There's no escape. Just like Yankees, Soxs, and Mets talk.
J. Kitna (Detroit)
I guarantee we will win 9.5 games this year with me as QB.
daniel (philadelphia)
well i know i keep talking about him but when thats the topic and i see so much i disagree with than ill keep writing about him...its a sick cycle..i feel for you amy...imagine all the favre comments we dont see
Amy Nelson (11:37 AM)
oh you should see some of the beauts i get. it's comical...
lucas dover,delaware
hey post this.... favre will wind up in tampa bay and go to the super bowl against the pats and win and then finally retire again
Marc Robinson (Detroit)
Just to be on the lighter side, I personally feel that Bret Farve should just stay retired for the simple fact that he's on the new cover of Madden 2009. This game has a long history of cursing the career of any player that appears on the cover of this franchise. If Farve knows what's good for him, he'll stay put. Though we would love to have him in Detroit!!
Devin (va)
Favre is still on the madden cover
Jeremy (Coral Springs, FL)
Jon Kitna, you should be in church on sundays, not on the football field.
John (Tampa )
Brett Farve is still the cover guy on Madden 09 he might not be in the game though
Josh (Texas)
I thought that Madden 09 game was done and made already. Why would EA waste all that money making a new cover?
Amy Nelson (11:39 AM)
i saw the two xx on the cover as well, for 20 years. but that cant be the cover
Eric (Asheville, NC)
A topic should be the mens USA Olympic team... thats a better subject than Favre, the WNBA, and the Mets and Phillies
Amy Nelson (11:40 AM)
so parcells said that tony romo botching that snap was the impetus for parcells to retire as coach, anyone else see that?
Adrian Peterson (Minneapolis)
I should be on the cover
John (Tampa )
the XX is the special edition Madden thats a two disc set if you purchase that one but the Madden 09 game with has Farve on the cover still
josh (nashville)
there are 2 madden covers this year .. one comes with some extras and has a special cover to commemerate 20 years.. favre is still on the regular cover.
Damon (Philadelphia)
I think the Tuna was looking for an excuse.
Mark (NJ)
Madden should put Skip in the game as a....Kicker !! hahaha
Shane (West Chester Ohio)
Losing that game have been the impetus, not one single play out of hundreds.
Aaron (va)
who cares about the big tuna. I don't understand why miami thinks that he will be a miracle for them
Tyler (Tucson)
I think that can be one of the toughest things about being a coach. No matter what , there will always be something you can't control on the field.
Damon (Philadelphia)
I'd like to think that Parcells has been through more gutwrenching experiences that Romo fumbling.
Zach (Austin)
I think Bill realized that it was either gonna be him that leaves or have to stay with Romo whom he had reservations about and stick with T.O. who he didn't like at all
Hutch (Htfd)
I don't think Parcells meant to speciffically blame Romo, he meant that after enduring those seasons to loose on something that trivial really hurt him
billy taylor from jackson MS
Steven A Smith you my boy and everything but brett farve is worth a 1st rounder. If he went to the jets i believe they would have a chance at a SB.We produced the greatest athletes like Walter Payton,Brett Farve,Jerry Rice,Jackie Slater,Lindsey Hunter, but we get no publicity down here in mississippi.
Amy Nelson (11:45 AM)
and watch out for fred lewis...
Tarvaris Jackson (Minneapolis)
I don't understand why I'm not on the cover...
Aaron (va)
Wow skip hit one right one the head finally! bill was great back in the day just like joe gibbs. now he isn't up to par in todays game
Shane (West Chester Ohio)
I'm huge 'Fins fan. The tuna can't hurt, since 13 left, we've had nothing.
Chris (philadelphia)
Anything can happen in the NFL and Parcells has to know that and not say "all we had to do was kick a field goal." Anything can happen and thats why they play the game!!!
lucas dover,delaware
being a fins fan i hope the tuna and his staff make the team win again, im not excepting a overnight miracle but it cant be as bad as the last few years have been.. and i would like to see the fins start henne over beck and mccown
Jeremy (Coral Springs, FL)
Thanks for the love amy!!! Now that i finally found the chat room, i will be back every week! Skip for president!
brett (green bay)
Hey, I bet I could win that starting job out in Miami. Does anyone have Parcells number? Oh, nevermind, its in my Packers issued phone!
Mike (nebraska)
Everybody's talking about the Mets, Phills,Red sox but no one talking about the Angels this year.
Amy Nelson (11:50 AM)
some people are...
Damon (Philadelphia)
I think having to coach Lawrence Taylor for all that time in Jersey may qualify as more gutwrenching. In fact, I think LT is responsible for some of the blocked arteries that Parcells had.
Ted (Flossmoor, Il)
I guess no one wanted to talk about Team USA basketball.
Amy Nelson (11:50 AM)
didnty see many comments about it
Lake (THE ATL)
Im calling it right now Josh Childress is going to dominate in Greece
Aaron (va)
does anyone realize that what bill parcels is doing is just as bad as what brett is doing? trying to drag on their careers based on a legacy
Alonzo (Macon, Ga)
If Parcells said that he should be ashamed. Romo, for all his faults, took that incident like a man and stood up to it. For Parcells to hang that on him is just wrong.
Rodney (Lewisville,Nc)
I just hope Team USA brings home the Gold and we don't have another disapointing Olympics.
Damon (Philadelphia)
I think it may be a foregone conclusion that Team USA will win the gold medal.
Joe (MA)
Amy,who do you think is least likely to make the playoffs?Redsox,Yankees,or Rays.
Amy Nelson (11:52 AM)
good question and a tough one right now, i'll go with the yankees, only because i picked them to not make the playoffs this year. but i def think they still have a great chance. and also because i'd love to see the rays in the postseason
Clint (College Station, TX)
I'll talk USA b-ball. I think we made a huge mistake by not taking as many big men as we're just now finding out that we need.
brian (portland)
parcells isn't hanging it on Romo. It's just the situation he's hangning it on. Gotta quit looking for gossip
Amy Nelson (11:54 AM)
that's why i was asking if people had seen what he said
Manu (Buenos Aires Argentina)
yeah just like it was a for gone conclusion in 2004 right
Clint (College Station, TX)
Rays are too young and have not felt the pressure of a late season push. They will not make the playoffs...write it down.
Rick Mahorn
Is someone hitting me, I can barely feel it!
Chris (philadelphia)
Oh Donovan, Donovan, Donovan....Think before you say the biggest fib of your career. No one is even picking the Eagles to win the NFC east let alone the entire NFC. Just another reason I HATE the Eagles!!!
Remy (Providence, RI)
to go against the grain, I actually think the Sox are gonna miss it this year
Brett Favre
You mean they are checking my team cell phone records? And they noticed I was calling the division rival Vikings a lot? That's it, I'm staying retired. Or, not. I haven't really decided yet. When's camp start?
Rodney (Lewisville,Nc)
I agree with Clint, the Rays will eventually collapse.
Aaron (va)
I think that the team usa has a great team. They are going for speed rather than a big team. The athletisism that this team has is something that is unmatched since the dream team with jordan
Shane (West Chester)
Com'on Aaron, Parcells has won virtually erverywhere, He didn't tearfully cry about retiring, and then say "wait a minute, i was only kidding"
Josh (Orrville, OH)
Def need more big men for the USA team. Wonder what Greg Oden is doing right now?
John (Tampa,FL)
It was a good decision not to take that many big men, if you look at the international game its a smaller man's game and more speed is needed and shooting not big men
BBQ Nut (Las Vegas, NV)
Donovan McHabb is crazy with those expectations!!!
Adrian (Libertyville IL)
Here is my playoff picture Angels White Sox Red Sox and Rays with WC Dodgers Brewers Mets with Cubs getting WC. Sound about right?
Amy Nelson (11:57 AM)
i like it adrian, interesting...with that got to wrap the chat up for today. thanks for writing in and i'll be back next wednesday
