JG's here!
Jeremy Green (12:14 PM)
Welcome to the GreenNation chat as I am cruising throught Youngstown Ohio!
SprungOnSports (Long Island)
What team do you think would be the best fit for Chad Pennington and what impact can he make this season?
Jeremy Green (12:16 PM)
I think the best for would be the Vikings...I wrote a blog about it. Chad has a great completion percentage, and he does not throw a lot of picks. He does not need a big arm to play in a West Coast offense, and he is a huge upgrade over T. Jax. Plus that great running game and defense make him a great fit.
Nick (Boston)
Should I be worried about the lack of pressure the patriots were able to put on the Ravens' QBs last night?
Jeremy Green (12:17 PM)
I would not be right now. Clearly they need to pressure the QB to protect that secondary. But this is the Pats...they are not going to show you anything in the preseason and Belichick is one of the best defensive minds in the game.
Daniel (San Rafael, CA)
Who do you think is the Week 1 starter for the 49ers? How about Week 10?
Jeremy Green (12:19 PM)
Well for Mike Nolan's sake he better hope Alex Smith because he is one the hot seat and Smith is the most talented QB on the team. Under Norv Turner, Smith looked very good and I expect Smith to do well under a great offesive coach like Mike Martz.
Kato (Cincinnati, Ohio)
Will a healthy Rudi Johnson bounce back this year?
Jeremy Green (12:20 PM)
Well I never thought he left really. I think part of the problem was how injured they were along the O-line. They had a great offense of line, but not anymore and they are a pass-happy team...so I think that has effected Rudi Johnson. I still think he can get it done.
Nick (Boston)
What 2 teams will surprise us all? one bust and one pleasant surprise please.
Jeremy Green (12:23 PM)
I think the Texans can be a pleasant surprise if Andre Johnson stays healthy. One bust, let's go with the Giants. They have had the worst offseason of anyone, Plax is complaining. The reason why they won last year is they took the "i" out of team and had great chemistry, which might not be there with the departure of Shockey, Strahan, Mitchell etc.
Trey (VA)
Is Jim Zorn the real deal? The more I read about him, the more I'm impressed. I'm not trying to get overly excited about the upcoming Redskins' season, but it's hard not to with Zorn at the helm.
Jeremy Green (12:24 PM)
I think he will do a great job. He was groomed by Holmgren and he brought a great system that Campbell knows and Zorn played QB in the league so he can help Campbell a lot.
Spencer
You said the Vikings are the ideal fit for Pennington but what team do you think will actually sign Chad? Wouldn't a move to get Pennington rock the boat for T-Jack?
Jeremy Green (12:27 PM)
Well they just sign Favre...how much harder can the boat be rocked?! Now I do not think the Vikes will take Pennington, I think he goes to Miami, but I think Chad would liken to play on a winning team towards the end of his career, so Minnesota would be a better fit for him.
Paul, NJ
Jeremy, why do the Bears not seem to have interest in Pennington? Seems like he would be an upgrade in the short term.
Jeremy Green (12:29 PM)
He would be a short term updrage, but the Bears would like to throw the ball a bit more vertical...but their two great TEs would help Chad. But look at the conditions in Chicago with the wind....that would not give him the best chance to succeed.
Justin (Jax, FL)
Speaking of the Bengals, do you think Chad and Carson will be on the same page this year? Also, do you see Housh becoming the true number one since it is his contract year?
Jeremy Green (12:30 PM)
I think they will be on the page as much as Chad wants to play. But Chad is not getting any younger and he is not a great route runner. As for Housh I always see him as a 1a. Housh may struggle a bit if Chad is not at his best.
Leslie (NYC)
Favre's season with the jets - any predictions? Disaster or success?
Jeremy Green (12:32 PM)
I do not think they are a playoff team. It will be a sruggle for him at times, because he has not been in that system. And if he starts turning the ball over the Jets do not have the defense to cover up those mistakes. I do not think it will be a disaster, but he may struggle at times.
Tyler (Salem, OR)
Who will win the QB battle in Arizona? Warner says he deserves the jop and he should! he had 27 TD last year and didn't even play the whole season
Jeremy Green (12:33 PM)
I think Leinart will win it, and I think they want him to. Warner will have to beat him out and I think Leinart will be able to hold him off and be the starter in Week 1, but he will also be on a short leash.
Justin (Shreveport)
Hey Jeremy, Are the Saints going to have a good defense this year? I love the additions of McCrary, Vilma and Ellis, but is it enough?
Jeremy Green (12:35 PM)
I think it will be enough. But Ellis will have to have the huge impact. I think they are taking the Giants approach in not improving the secondary and trying to get more pressure on the QB. They will be better on D and very explosive on offense. I think they have a great chance to win the South.
Justin (Boca)
What kind of impact do you think Ricky Williams will have this year?
Jeremy Green (12:37 PM)
Not much. I know they have been raving about him, but I am not a big beleiver in him. He is fairly injury prone, I do not think he likes football, and he is basicall a violation away from being out of the NFL. They need him with Brown coming off injury, but I do not expect much out of him.
Sean (Philly)
JG, what do you expect from the Eagles with a healthy 5ive this year? If Dallas hits a bump in the road, I think the Eagles take the division.
Jeremy Green (12:39 PM)
I do not think they are good enough for that. They still have no No. 1 WR. But a healthy Donovan it makes everyone better and opens up lanes for Westbrook. I think S and LB are a bit of concern. I think they are a 9-7/bubble team. I think 2 teams will get in from the NFC East, and the Eagles will be battling the Redskins for that spot.
David (Detroit, MI)
How do you think the lions will do this year?
Jeremy Green (12:40 PM)
I think they are a 6 win team. It is hard to say they will be better without Martz, even if he's a little nutty. The Lions scored a lot under Martz. I do not think Kitna will be as good without Martz.
Ben (Lawrence, KS)
Any thoughts on the Chiefs? It's early but the new Chan Gailey offense seems to fit this young roster. I can't believe I saw audibles and bootlegs against the Bears last night!
Jeremy Green (12:42 PM)
I think they are going to have a much better passing game with Chan, because he loves to pass the ball, obviosuly. They will open it up, but a lot of it depends on Croyle's development.
Tim (NJ)
I don't understand why people are so high on Jason Campbell? I know he has a strong arm, but he doesn't seem to me like he is a franchise QB.
Jeremy Green (12:44 PM)
Well it is hard to say. he has been in three offesnes since he has started. His last OC was very good in Al Saunders, but he likes veteran QBs. Jim Zorn is a younger coach who can develop Campbell. Rememeber, you are not going to be explosive on a Joe Gibbs coached team.
Mad Mike (Houston)
JG: Safe to say that Dallas would be in deep should T.O. miss more than a game or two? Thanks.......MM
Jeremy Green (12:46 PM)
They'd be in bad shape. They still have not found a No. 2 WR which is not on the roster. And when he was out last year Witten got double teamed and no one on the other side of the field did anything. They NEED to find an opposite to T.O. because teams are shading to T.O.'s side and matching up Crayton one-on-one.
Ryan (San Diego)
Yo JG whats up! Who will have the better season statswise, Eli Manning, Philip Rivers or the punk Jay Cutler? PS you owe me some steaks brother
Jeremy Green (12:48 PM)
I do owe you... I think Rivers will be the most efficient. I think he will make big strides, now that he has worked with Chambers. The key is getting Gates to 100%.
Justin (Jax, FL)
By adding Williamson and Porter, did the Jags improve their receiving corps enough to finally get past Indy?
Jeremy Green (12:50 PM)
I think they had the right idea, but Porter is hurt and will miss the entire preseason and Williamson is hurt. I think Porter could do things, but now they are beat up at WR. Northcutt is their one right now, which was pretty much was the case last year...but they did have the right idea.
Brian (NC)
The Giants have had the worst offseason of anyone? How did you feel about their offseason last year? (to refresh your memory, Tiki retired, Coughlin was a lame duck, Strahan was a no-show to camp, Petitgout/Emmons/Demps/Arrington were all released, no significan FA signings...)
Jeremy Green (12:53 PM)
But the chemistry has to be there, and I just do not see it. They had an offseason where Shockey wanted to leave, Plax is complaining, Strahan retired, where is the leadership? I just do not think Eli is that leader.
Matt K ( The Burg, PA)
JG, is this the year Big Ben shows he is one of the 3 best QB's in the league?
Jeremy Green (12:55 PM)
No. He is a solid starter, but he will not be any better than he was in past season. They actually got worse along the O-line, so he is going to get hit, a lot, as he was last season. I think he played well, but I do not ever think Big Ben will be a top three QB.
Jeremy Green (12:57 PM)
Alright guys, I am headed out of Youngstown, and on to Cleveland. Enjoy your weekend and we'll chat again next week.
