John Anderson (7:01 PM)
Hello evrybody who I cannot see and do not know but have computers. Play ball.
Jake G. Boston, Mass.
What team do you think will win th A.L. East this year?
John Anderson (7:03 PM)
Rays... too easy.
Brad (Gadsden,Alabama)
John, What is your fav. olympic event?
John Anderson (7:04 PM)
I love the Track & Field. despite one of my favorite sports quotes ever -- "the only thing more boring than track is field." High Jump will be the one I watch most. The 100 will also be dynamite
kevin
i used to like brett favre until you guys have covered him 24 7 now i very much dislike brett favre please can u guys stop talkin bout him im sick of it
John Anderson (7:04 PM)
Brett said today his arm and his legs are a little fatigued. Join the club #4... we've been fatigued by you for the last month.
Caleb: Springfield, MO
My dream is to go to the Missouri School of Journalism and then to be a reporter for ESPN, and i wanted to know how you got to ESPN after college?
John Anderson (7:05 PM)
Go Tigers. I worked in Tulsa, Oklahoma and Phoenix, Az before moving to ESPN. Started as a part-time news photographer. It's been a long road.
Aaron (Pacifica, California)
Who do you thinks the N.L. M.V.P.? Does Ryan Braun get any consideration?
John Anderson (7:06 PM)
If he can get back from his back injury and if the Brewers win the Division, yes. Top 3 guy either way.
Kevin: Green Bay, WI
What did you think of Aaron Rodgers performance last night and how do you think the Packers will end up after this season?
John Anderson (7:08 PM)
Rodgers did a nice job for his first time out and he will get even better. You could see and hear the relief in his face and voice after the game. As well as he handled it nobody can be immune tot he Favre soap opera and now he can concentrarte on football not Brett.
Scott Van Pelt (Your House)
I need some more funny one-liners, I already used all of Stu's and why do you have my thongs?
John Anderson (7:09 PM)
I like "He's been lifting," and anything from the Bill Pidto catalog. Why are you not at your desk right now?
Josh (Ware Shoals, South Carolina)
Ok John, College Football is almost here and I cannot wait to see my Clemson Tigers win the ACC. But here is my question, Do you think that App. State will go into LSU and upset the defending National Champions?
John Anderson (7:10 PM)
No. No. And, ahhh, No. Les Miles will not allow what happened at the Big House to happen at his house.
Dan (Indiana)
What do you think of the Mo Williams deal?
John Anderson (7:11 PM)
I'm okay with it. In fact you could dump all the GBucks sans Redd, Jefferson and Bogut as far as I'm concerned and I might not even have shelled out all that dough for Bogut.
dustin pa
the browns are they as good as everyone thinks?
John Anderson (7:12 PM)
I think the Browns are good but I think matching last year's win total will be a stretch. Even if the team progresses and matures it might not be as good record wise. And, yet, 9 wins might make the playoffs in the AFC.
Connor (Ponca, Nebraska)
Hey, John. I'm a huge fan of the show Wipeout. What is your favorite wipeout ever.
John Anderson (7:13 PM)
I liked that poor fella Jacob Mann who sort of took a below beating in the man region on the Big Balls.
Jimmy New York, New York
John whats your opinion on modern day sports? im talking about how all sports have strayed from their glory days into an almost wimpy society of sports. Such as a suspension for retaliation on one of your players getting beaned. and also how these new rules can ruin good things like the NBA's benchleaving rule which screwed over amare stoudamire and the suns in 2006
John Anderson (7:16 PM)
I'm okay with modern sports. I'm good with sportsmanship. Frankly, I've always thought the proveriable retaliation beanball to be cowardly. Hey, the guy jacked you for a home run... get him out next time don't dust the next guy. Ditteo with a good clothes line going in. Hey play defense on the other end and you don't have to clock some guy who out hustled you to the opposite basket. Maybe that makes be soft but I'm not sure those other thingsd are extacly signs off toughness.
Ben Columbus, Ohio
How do you think the steelers will do this year up against this tough schedule?
John Anderson (7:17 PM)
The Steelers I like to win the division. I think Big Ben will be even better than last year and the team will not throw away home games. Also when I saw Ben this summer he threatened to hunt me down and kill me if i said anything bad about him. I feel safe for the moment.
Matt (Philadelphia PA)
who do you think will win gold in the mens 100m for the olympics Asafa Powell, Usain Bolt or the American Tyson Gay??
John Anderson (7:18 PM)
I like Tyson Gay if his leg is okay after the scare at the start of the 200 meters at the Trials. I'm still a little leary of Bolt having to run all those rounds. Though watching him walk the field in NYC for his WR was awesome. Powell has yet to show he can win the biggest meets despite all those fast times.
Name:Hassan (North Andover, MA)
Would you rather go in the octagon against Kimbo Slice or give up being a brewers/cards fan?
John Anderson (7:21 PM)
I'll take Slice. I realize that is an odd pairing but hear me out. Childhood Brewers fan. Easy. Move to Missouri for college and have a roomate that fell asleep to Jack Buck and the Cardinals every night. Learned to love Whitey's teams. At the time -- seperate leagues -- no problem. Years later, Crew switches back to the NL (very pleased at that by the way) and now there's a problem. Just wanted to give my son a choice. In the end we are with the Crew first and foremost. Don Money rules!!!
Rasheed Wallace, Detroit
Yo Johnny this is really 'sheed, just shouting out to my favorite cat on SportsCenter. By the way, what do you think about the Phillies? You think they can hold out in the NL east?
John Anderson (7:22 PM)
If this is 'Sheed that is unreal. Keep firing from three. Phillies will hold on as the Big Man Howard carries them home.
Nick Philadelphia, PA
Do you think michael phelps will win 8 gold medals
John Anderson (7:22 PM)
Yes, and I will watch every meter of every race. He is the Babe Ruth of swimming. Make sure to enjoy it.
Ian (Connecticut)
What's the background behind your "signature" catchphrase, "Number 10...Fred!"? I know it has to do with one of the Brazilian soccer players that's used that name and his jersey number, but was it just something you blurted out during Top 10 Plays one day and it's stuck, a suggestion from a friend, or perhaps something you took from a soccer announcer (like SVP's "Useful shot, lad." which is a Sam Torrance line)?
John Anderson (7:23 PM)
Number 10, Fred. Is a shout out to the legendary broadcaster Fred Hickman. I can say no more. SVP -- ver useful.
Josh Wasserman Scarsale,NY
Do you think the Packers are going to be any good without Farve?
John Anderson (7:24 PM)
PAckers will be fine and they will be better than the Jets. Even with #4 13 and 3 would be tough to top from last year. I think they go at least 10 wins... maybe 11... win the Central.
Wynn S. Woodbury, MN
I have been a Twins fan my whole life, and an avid Torri Hunter fan. When he went to the Angels, he suddenly dropped off the charts. From being a regular on the Top 10 plays (as I'm sure you remember John), he hasn't been seen on highlight reels since. What happened? Do you think the money got to him? By the way, you are my favorite SC anchor and I love your work on wipeout.
John Anderson (7:25 PM)
Thanks, thanks and Torii was big on SC last night. He has had an great year with the Haols. Like him a lot. Even better if he was on a stick at the Minn State Fair.
Johnny (woodlands,texas)
do you think that oklahoma city will be able to bring a good fan base to the nba
John Anderson (7:26 PM)
OKC will have a great great fan base. Already do. They will excel like the Spurs in SA. Love The City.
Jack: (New York, New York)
I just wanted to tell you how much I loved Wipeout this year. You were hysterical and are my favorite Sportscenter anchor.
John Anderson (7:27 PM)
I just took this post to feel better about myself. Wipeout is great fun because John Henson is even funnir off camera than on.
Tanner Bass Wheeling, West Virginia
Do you think West Virginia can win a national championship with out Steve Slaton?
John Anderson (7:27 PM)
No. I miss Danny Buggs.
Bryan (Chi-Town)
What kind of chance do you think the Cubs have this year to win it all? Ive been a die hard fan all my life and my grandfather played minor league ball in their system so its good to get an outsiders POV because mine maybe be a little biased having cubbie blue run through my veins haha How do you feel about Kosuke's slump of recently and Piniella's no nonsense reaction to it? Personally I love it, it shows that no one is above being benched and it is a team effort. That is why I've always loved sweet Lou.
John Anderson (7:29 PM)
The Cubs are a menace. Too good in the Central... and probably all of the NL. Who will hang with them? They hit relentlessly and they pitch, well, great. I see them crossing with the Angels in October. LAA too good and too much experience for anybody else in the AL. Even thier past failures in the playoffs with Boston will not be a problem this year.
Bruce Green Folsom CA
Sept. 7, 1979 the day sports awards became known as the East Coast awards.
John Anderson (7:31 PM)
In our defense. Nothing gets better numbers than a Red Sox - Yankees game. And, as I tell me friends back in WI and Missouri, we'd love to put the Brewers, Cubs, White Sox or Cardinals on first everynight... but if the games don't get over before 11pm eastern... you can't show the game on TV unitl it's done. That puts us in bind.
Matthew, California
Do you honestly think Arron Rodgers will really lead Green Bay even near the play offs.
John Anderson (7:32 PM)
Yep. That will probably never get Ted Thompson off the hook but you don't trade favre or try to keep him off your team unless you know you can live witht he label the "Guy who traded Brett Favre."
Josh Muhleck: Fenton, Michigan
Hey John. I'm 13 years old and i watch sportscenter practically everyday. I was wondering how well you think the wolverines are going to do this year. I'm a diehard UM fan, and I wanted to know what a professional thinks.
John Anderson (7:34 PM)
Josh -- you are going to have a tough fall as an 8th grader but Coach Rod will have them soaring by the time you graduate. Meanwhile, the Senator down in Columbus might beat you up a couple more times. Sorry.
Carson (Cleveland)
do you like pop tarts, if so, what is your favorite flavor. and also, do you like bacon
John Anderson (7:34 PM)
Yummmmm. Bacon!
Boston, Mass
I know ESPN is an enteranment then sports network, but can you tell everybody there to stop talking about Brett Farvvera. I dont care that Brett wokeup today and put on Wranglers, then threw a pass. Leave it to TMZ.
John Anderson (7:36 PM)
Sorry but it is the hot story and people are talking about it and are interested in it and if it went away tomorrow I bet it wouldn't be 24 hours before you started wondering what is up wth #4. I will die down, eventually, but not yet.
antonio santa monica california
early on your first show i had to wait an hour to see the dodger highlights its really terrible that brett farve is more important leave him alone already he is a jet so what
John Anderson (7:37 PM)
Just needed Andre Either to get that base hit in the 9th for the game to get over. Tell the Dodgers to play faster and you can than see it faster.
john : new jersy
micheal phelps : ultimate athlete? how not? people watch the super bowl and world series for because of its historic past time. and this guy is single handedly drawing eyes to the world of swimming. How is he not the worlds greatest athlete?
John Anderson (7:37 PM)
He is.
Mike, Battle Ground, IN
What is wrong with Notre Dame football, John? How do they turn it around? I've been a loyal non-grad for over 40 years and it's starting to look like they may be just another football program. They can't recruit unless they lower their academic standards, but is that worth it?
John Anderson (7:39 PM)
Not enough good players. Has nothing to do with academic standards. They've had those for years and done fine. Just need to hit on finding better players. Dumbing down the schedule will help too. But that might lead to a inflated record and another blowout bowl game loss.
Samuel Davis, Dallas, Texas
What is your biggest challenge as a SportsCenter anchor?
John Anderson (7:40 PM)
Writing about Brett Favre on day number 45. But we don't get to choose the news we all like otherwise I would do nothing but write about Tiger Woods.
Carson (Cleveland)
what is your favorite kind of music genre and band?
John Anderson (7:40 PM)
Of the 1000 songs I have on my I-Pod 847 of them are by Van Morrison.
ridgeland,ms
can we not see brett favre 20 times a day? enough already. it' getting as bad as obama @ mccain!
John Anderson (7:42 PM)
Are you really complaining that we cover the presidential election too much in this country. It's the race for Preisdent for goodness sake. The highest land in the office. I can't get enough of it.
Justin Boman Oklahoma City
Who do you think will win the South in the Big 12 and also justin how good is Micheal Phelps.
John Anderson (7:43 PM)
OU... or... yep, I might even buy a little stock in Texas Tech. I love Mike Leach. Michael Phelps is better than everybody except maybe Tiger Woods.
Carson (Cleveland)
can you give me a shout out to me on tonight's sportscenter
John Anderson (7:44 PM)
Not until you get to 100 questions sent in and right now you are only at about 47.
Justin Jonas Brooklyn, NY
Do You Believe as I Do that Kobe Bryant aka the Black Mamba aka the Doberman aka the most feared player in the NBA aka the best player in the world could possibly go to to Italy and play in Europe? Especially if he wins and NBA Championship along with being named the finals mvp and with the possibility of being the mvp in the NBA
John Anderson (7:45 PM)
I think Kobe has too much ego to go to Italy. Money might be great... but how much money do you need? Makes a great deal in LA. He goes to Italy and after the first few games we will lose interest in him in this coutry and ultimately these guys want to be seen and be famous and that is best done in the US.
Dustin, Fargo ND
So be honest, you guys have the greatest jobs in the world, right?
John Anderson (7:47 PM)
Right up until the PAdres and Rockies play a 22 inning game and I'm still sitting at work waiting to go home at 5:48 in the morning. Not as good on those days.
Chad: Lawrence, Ks
I've seen you at KU basketball games. Are you partial to the Jayhawks?
John Anderson (7:49 PM)
I have been to the Phog twice in my life. In both instances I did not make it to the end of the game. Scott Van Pelt and Neil Everett go to see the Beekers every year and enjoy themselves. I do, however, go to Baker football games once in awhile.
Jack Lancaster,Pa
I was just wondering if we have another Floyd Landis scandal at the Bejing swimming pool?
John Anderson (7:50 PM)
I refuse to be that cynical. I think he is the real deal.
Jordan: (Cincinnati, Ohio)
NO RESPECT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Monday Night Football a showcase of talent and all people care about is Aaron Rodgers How about an improving Bengals defense or the return of a dynamic running back to the guys in orange and black. I feel like we lost that game because nobody cared. it was reallyMonday Night Football Aaron Rodgers vs Aaron Rodgers. Shouldn't we wait until regular to judge him
John Anderson (7:52 PM)
Well, you actually won the game 20-17. And since it was the first pre-season game I don't think too much was made of Rodgers... or Chad Johnson. All those other questions for the Bengals will be answered in time and in a timely manner.
Hayden(Wichita, KS)
Hey John, which is more fun Wipeout or SportsCenter?
John Anderson (7:54 PM)
SC. I may change my answer after i get a crack at the Wipeout course which I have yet to attack.
Joe (MPLS, MN)
I have the #2 pick in my Fantasy Football Draft, Westbrook or Adrian Peterson?
John Anderson (7:54 PM)
AP
Carson (Cleveland)
what about the shout
John Anderson (7:54 PM)
64 and counting.
Andrew (Lexington kentucky)
hey john will the kentucky wildcats go back to the music city bowl this year
John Anderson (7:55 PM)
I cannot answer this until the Ryder Cup is concluded in Kentucky. Can you get me Ashley judd's number?
Joe (MPLS, MN)
Why do you think AP?
John Anderson (7:56 PM)
You've seen him play right? I also think the Eagles will try to and ease the load on Westbrook, at least early, because he can do so many things and it's a long season and he is much oklder than Peterson.
Luke (Dallas, TX)
When you guys end the show, we always see you talking but we can't hear. What are you saying?
John Anderson (7:57 PM)
I wonder what Luke in Dallas is thinking. No, actually we are trying to figure out much more work we have to do before the show is really, really over.
B.J. SILLS
WHAT WAS THE WIERDEST INTERVIEW YOU HAVE EVER HAD AND WHY? AND WHAT WAS THE BEST AND WHY?
John Anderson (7:58 PM)
Danica Patrick because, quite frankly, she wasn't that nice.
Cody Savage, MN
What is the biggest Perk of being a SportsCenter Anchor?
John Anderson (8:00 PM)
Getting to hear John Kruk tell baseball stories. Hearing SVp imitate Paddy Harrington. Getting called "Dude" by Neil Everett. Free copies of Linda Cohn's book -- avaialable tot he public soon.
Ryan Lenexa, Kansas
how well do you think mizzou's football team will do this season?
John Anderson (8:02 PM)
I will see you at the BCS National Championship game. And with that I am an hour and out. Catch everybody tonight on SC at 1 eastern. I'll be the guy sitting next to Linda Cohn.
