Chat with JD Gibbs

Joe Gibbs Racing will be featured on Wednesday's episode of NASCAR Now on ESPN2 at 5 p.m. ET. ESPN's Marty Smith will be on-site at JGR's headquarters in Huntersville, N.C., talking with several key members of JGR, including Joe Gibbs, JD Gibbs, Kyle Busch and Tony Stewart.
JD Gibbs has sat as president of JGR for 11 years. During his time, he has added Tony Stewart, Denny Hamlin, Kyle Busch and Joey Logano to JGR's roster of drivers. The company has three Cup championships (Tony Stewart in 2002 and 2005 and Bobby Labonte in 2000) during JD's time.
Send in your questions now and join Gibbs at 2 p.m. ET on Wednesday!

JD Gibbs will be here shortly!
Buzzmaster (2:01 PM)
Hey folks, JD is going to be a couple minutes late, but keep sending in your questions!
JD Gibbs (2:07 PM)
Hey JD Gibbs here. Happy to be here, and looking forward to spending some time with you guys!
Josh(Butler,TN)
JD, Did you think when you hired Kyle Busch that it would turn out this good.
JD Gibbs (2:08 PM)
From our point of view we need he was a great talent, but to be honest no, not this strong out of the gate. But we are sure glad it happened and we think he has been a great fit for ther time and vice versa.
Brian (LA)
How do you plan to compensate for the loss of Tony Stewart?
JD Gibbs (2:09 PM)
Obviously Tony has been a great partner for a very long time at JGR. It is hard anytime you make a move, but what encourages us is with the team we have we will find the right fit for Home Depot and all our fans. That is our hope.
Ed (South Bend, Indiana)
If you look at where this organization was last year at this time, compared to right now, what are the biggest differences, what has gotten better, and what has gotten worse?
JD Gibbs (2:11 PM)
The biggest difference, with any sport, is things are always chaging. We have a great new partner in Toyota. Learning how to deal with the new relationship is one thing and it can take a while, and adjusting to the COT is a big adjustment. And for me personally, I have my dad looking over my shoulder, which can make you uneasy at times.
Kevin (Boston, MA)
JD,First off congrats on the great season you are putting together. What is the organizations thoughts on how many races Kyle runs? While I am sure you are happy to have the NW exposure when hie is running up front, do you worry that he may burn out for the cup races?
JD Gibbs (2:13 PM)
Very good question. Over the years, watching him run, he is at the point in his career when he can go pretty hard, especially at a companion event. If we felt like he may get tired we would scale back, but I do not think we are there yet. The most important piece is the Cup title, but the NW is also very important especially because guys just love to race.
Jordan (Slinger, WI)
With Busch do you feel that you have NASCAR's top driver?
JD Gibbs (2:14 PM)
I think the world of all our drivers. They all have different styles, but I cannot put one above the other. If one gets going he is pretty hard to stop. What we found out is that they all push each other. Obvisouly when Tony leaves we will have to find a way to fill that void, but I think we will be in good shape.
jeff (los angeles,ca)
With all the success that the team is having after the switch to Toyota, what would you say to Jack Roush about his hatered to the foreign manufacturer?
JD Gibbs (2:17 PM)
Look from an auto manufaturer standpoint it is a global market. Everyone has their own views, but I wanted to look at it from the angle of what is best for JGR. A lot of different things in this world are global, and no longer domestic things. And also with the new manufacturer we feel we have more say in the leadership role.
Sean (Spokane)
Are you looking at Logano as the replacement in the 20 car next year?
JD Gibbs (2:18 PM)
We think the world of him and he will be there for a long time, but we are not ready to say that yet. But I will say he will be one of our guys for years to come and we look forward to it.
Kevin (Boston, MA)
How do you help a young star like Joey Logano deal with all the pressure not just on the track but away from it?
JD Gibbs (2:20 PM)
We've had a great background working with young guys. Tony was very new to the whole thing when he first came in, and we have a pretty good idea about how to have young guys focus on racing the car. We want them to learn the racetracks and competition they will face. If they can do that the rest will take care of itself. Also he has a great fanily that will get him in line if he ever gets offtrack.
matt (pa)
What is the best part of your job
JD Gibbs (2:21 PM)
I would say dealing with the great team of people here. It is just fun. I can do some many different things from day-to-day. And again, we just have a great group of guys here, who are great to work with.
Gabriel (Florida)
JD, which of the young drivers that are in your organization do you think we should watch for to make an impact in the future?
JD Gibbs (2:22 PM)
We love obviously love Joey and Marc Davis is another. He came along the same path as Joey and think he has a great future in the sport. But we are also hoping to find more young guys.
Wayne - Winston-Salem NC
I was really hoping that Ryan Newman would end up in the 20 car. Why is it that it could not be worked out with Newman and Gibbs Racing?
JD Gibbs (2:23 PM)
I think the world of Ryan and his wife. It was a timing thing for us. I think he is going to have a great career wherever he winds up. Maybe somehwere down the road we can hook back up again. But like I said the timing just was not right.
Chris (Richmond, VA)
Growing up, what's your favorite Redskins memory?
JD Gibbs (2:25 PM)
I think for me, my favorite memory was being the ball boy, from 7th to 12th grade. I would say the '87 season really sticks out as far as games and getting to know the players. That was probably my favorite year. Being down there with the guys at camp was always grea and a lot of fun.
TG (PA)
Other than the drivers on your team, what drivers on other teams do you think are doing well this year?
JD Gibbs (2:26 PM)
Never count out Jimmie, I think he id oign very well, and Jeff will be there too. Edwards is always very good. You just never know who is going to get hot. There are a number of guys who are guys really respect and keep tabs on.
JD Gibbs (2:28 PM)
I behalf of everyone at JGR we know that what makes this team go round is the fans. Growing up in football no one ever had the access to the star perfomers like we do here in NASCAR. We appreciate everyone's support for our team and for NASCAR!
