Pontiac Game Changing Performance

Davis will be chatting about the season as well as the Pontiac Game Changing Performances seen during the games.
los angeles
Hey Rece, does Usc look better than a number 3 team?
Rece (4:07 PM)
You don't know how good they are because you don't know how good their level of competion is, but I moved them to number one in my poll this week.
Mike (Tuscaloosa)
The top six teams that I saw play football this weekend were USC, OSU, UGA, UF, LSU, and BAMA in no particular order. Big name ranked schools VT, CLEM, and PITT looked far inferior than their rankings gave them credit for. In your opinion, should preseason polls mean as much as they do in the FBS?
Rece (4:09 PM)
Preseason polls are good for fan interest. I don't have a problem with them. But, a problem is that pollsters try to vallidate their preseason predictions. I don't see anything wrong with early fluctuations in early polls. I don't believe waiting till the season start is a good idea either. You won't know anything in week 3 if a team played 3 bad teams.
Bill St. Louis
The 81 yard run from Cal...is that something we can expect from them all year or was this just a fluke?
Rece (4:10 PM)
Hey Bill. Good question. That was a huge momentum changing play. Game Changing Performance fits that play well. It was a worthy nominee. Let's see if Cal fans can support the cause.
Nick(Bristol,CT)
Rece please tell me why no one is talking about UCONN?! they DID win the Big East title last year. and beat 2 or 3 of the teams people are saying are gonna win the Big East this year. it just dosent make sense. AND they returned a lot of starters.
Rece (4:12 PM)
Fair point Nick. They have a lot of guys coming back. But, they way they won didn't inspire confidence this season. They are a wait and see team right now. They don't have the same type of fire power that teams like WVU and South Florida can put on the field.
James (Lubbock)
A lot of people are saying that Texas Tech could win the Big XII this year.. What do you think about those claims?
Rece (4:13 PM)
I think they have a chance James. They will have the best passing attack in the country and their D will be imroved. But, I just don't think top to bottom that they are as good as Okl. Plus they have to go on the road to play the Sooners. They have a shot, but it's not likely they can get past Okl.
Matt, Pittsburgh
Is Ohio State still the favorite in the big 10 if chris wells is out for awhile? Could someone like Penn State or Wisconsin take over?
Rece (4:14 PM)
Both of those teams looked solid Matt, but OSU is still the favorite. Things definitely change without Beanie. But they are still definitely the favorite.
Josh (Greenville)
What do you think the long term impact of the ECU win over VA tech will be?
Rece (4:16 PM)
The immediate impact would be that people need to vote to get 5k in the general scholarship fund courtesy of Pontiac for their nomination in Game Changin Performance But, the long term effect could be respect. They need to establish a foundation and more confidence. It would be great to follow it up with a win against WVU this week and then we'll see where they go.
Justin (Greenwood, MS)
hey rece, what do you think ole miss' chances of upseting wake forest are?
Rece (4:18 PM)
justin, this is "sneaky saturday." There are many games that will be better than you think and I think this will be one of them. I think Ole Miss is the sleeper team in the SEC West. They have a good opportunity to knock off Wake For. this week. Not to mention the whole SEC/ACC thing going on right now.
Jeff (Columbus)
Who will win USC or Ohio State?
Rece (4:20 PM)
If we knew who would win, we wouldn't be doing this. If I had to make the choice, I'd say USC has an edge because they're playing at home. I'd probably say OSU has an edge if the game were in Columbus. But, if you make me pick one right now, I'd have to go with USC.
Jordan (Nashville)
Rece, do you think Tennessee has a chance against Florida in a few weeks.
Rece (4:21 PM)
I'll know better after tonight. Tenn. has a great offensive line. I think they'll be better on defense than the last couple of years. But, I'll reserve judgement until I see how their QB plays tonight.
Dawg Fan - (Atlanta, GA)
How can you have an hour long College Football Live show without talking about the #1 team in the nation once!?! Why does ESPN hate UGA?
Rece (4:24 PM)
Well Dawg Fan, we hate UGA for the same reason we hate OSU, Mich., Florida, FSU,Texas, Okl, WVU, Notre Dame, etc. Fans are passionate, that's why we love the sport and we love the fans. We really don't hate anyone. We love story lines and great teams and Georgia is one of them. We've spent a ton of time leading up to this talking about Georgia and we will continue as the season progresses.
Brian, (Silver Spring)
Hi Rece, Do you think the ACC's bad opening week is a good indicator of how their season will go? Or do you think the conference can recover?
Rece (4:25 PM)
I think they can recover Brian, because there is good coaching and talent in the league. Conferences going up and down is cyclical. Some of their powerhouses aren't playing so well and that's why they're down. I think they will rebound though.
Greg (Charleston, SC)
Rece, What happens first....The Big Ten adds a team and plays a conference championship game like the SEC, Big 12, and ACC or Lou Holtz is replaced on College Game Day?
Rece (4:27 PM)
Hey Greg...Big Ten Championship Game without a doubt. Because Mark and I enjoy working with Lou so much, I hope he stays forever! Besides, where else would you be able to seek College Football advice other than Dr. Lou.
Matt, Pittsburgh
How do you decide which game to go live to each saturday?
Rece (4:29 PM)
Hey Matt, good question. It's got a lot to do with feel. Also rights issues come into play. But, mostly it's the games that are most compelling and where the upsets are occurring.
robert south carolina
Why cant bowden ever have the tigers ready to play? we have the talent. we need coaching.
Rece (4:31 PM)
In this instance, I don't think they need a coaching change. They need an attitude change. Alabama hit them in the mouth and they didn't respond.
Jim, New York
What individual player was the most disappointing this week in your eyes?
Rece (4:33 PM)
That's a tough question Jim. I would say James Davis. He was a dark horse Heisman candidate coming into the season. His lack of productivity this week would make him my pick for most disappointing.
Phillip(Mobile,Al.)
Hey Rece. What is your take on the Alabama team as this point?
Rece (4:35 PM)
I thought they played with much more confidence. They were much more physical and I thought their offense helped Wilson avoid big mistakes, which has marked his play in big games in the past. They sure did look like a Nick Saban football team.
Mike (Tuscaloosa)
Every week we hear of another big time player lost to devastating ligament injuries. Is college football to brutal on player's bodies and what can we do to help protect these kids in the long run?
Rece (4:37 PM)
I wish I had an answer to your question Mike. It's a violent collision sport and unfortunately injuries are part of it. The athletes are better conditioned today than ever before. But, you're right it's a side of the game that we wish we didn't see so often.
james charleston, sc
How can saban turn a team around so fast and bowden can't get our tigers over the hump after 9 years?
Rece (4:38 PM)
It's one game. One awful game, but just one game. Clemson can and should win the ACC title. Let's not overreact to one bad performance.
beaverton or
how bout thAT 4TH AND GOAL GO FRESNO
Rece (4:39 PM)
I'm watching the game from the innards of the Rose Bowl right now. It's great toughness by a team that could be one of the better (if not the best) team in a non BCS conference.
BEAVERTON,OR
DO THE DUCKS MAKE A BIG TIME BOWL GAME THIS YEAR FROM WHat we saw sat.
Rece (4:40 PM)
Again, only one game. But they were impressive. By "big time," if you mean Holiday Bowl...I'd say absolutely. I wouldn't be surprised if they were in the BCS at large mix.
Jim, Erie
Is Dave W. job in jeopardy at Pitt if he loses another game in the same fashion as they did this week?
Rece (4:43 PM)
Well, for a team that's supposed to be a Big East title contender...if they lose to two teams in the MAC in two weeks (they play Buffalo next week), his approval rating amongst the PITT fans will surely not be high.
Tyler Jupiter,FL
can the gators win the national championship
Rece (4:44 PM)
Can they, Tyler? Yes. Will they? We'll have to wait and see.
Rodney (Buffalo)
Whats up with Turner Gill can he give any hope to a dying football program at The University at Buffalo
Rece (4:45 PM)
Ask Mike Price if they have any hope after the beat down they put on them this week.
Mike (Tuscaloosa)
Honestly, who is the best team in the SEC East- The talented, #1 ranked Georgia, or the Heisman trophy-led, swampy Florida Gators?
Rece (4:46 PM)
I thought before the season it was Georgia. But, they've now lost their best OL and their best interior DL. So, right now, I'd have to give to Florida.
Andy, Cleveland
You should find a way to get Erin Andrews on tv more. Shes great!
Rece (4:48 PM)
Yes, she's an excellent sideline reporter. But, can she come up with a Pontiac Game Changing Performance. Would you vote for her?
Alan (Orlando)
What chance does UCF have of upsetting USF in Orlando?
Rece (4:50 PM)
I would say...not much. They haven't had a lot of success against South Florida. UCF has some catching up to do if they want to play at that level. Anything can happen in a rivalry game, but South Florida is much more talented.
Josh (Mobile)
Hey, Rece from SEC country. Why does the SEC look so dominant from the other conferences?
Rece (4:52 PM)
Josh, I think it's because the high level at which the SEC programs are required to play every week. They have an incredible depth of coaching. Their facilities are second to none and thus their recruiting is also second to none. They always turn it on when the "lights are on." Look at Alabama, they answered the bell on Saturday. I expect to see the same thing from Tenn tonight.
Tyler (Bowling Green)
Rece, do u think Louisville has the talent to have an 8 win season? Hunter Cantwell has tons of potential.
Rece (4:54 PM)
Hey Tyler. They will have to play much better than they played yesterday. I taped the game, but made it to LA to catch much of the 4th quarter when Hunter melted down. I think if they break even, it would be great. But, I'm hoping to see more because Mark, Lou and I are calling their game against Kansas St. in a couple of weeks.
Rece (4:55 PM)
Hey Guys, we got about 5 minutes left so keep the great questions coming!
Eric(Geneva,AL)
What University did you attend? and ROLL TIDE
Rece (4:56 PM)
I think you know the answer to that one Eric. For those that don't, I'm a 1988 graduate of the University of Alabama.
Matt, Pittsburgh
Whats your favorite school to go to Rece?
Rece (4:57 PM)
Hey Matt. Every school we go to is unique and fun because of the passion they all display. Take your alma mater out of it, but to me, there's nothing more fun than a night at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge or to go midnight yell at Kyle Field at Texas A&M.
Dustin (Boise)
Rece, did you see any of the Boise State highlights mainly those of redshirt freshman QB Kellen Moore? If you did what are your thoughts on him? In my opinion Moore should have us back to a BCS bowl in two years.
Rece (4:58 PM)
I did not, but I'm looking forward to watching tape on him. Lots of people are really high on him and I expect great things in the future.
Matt, Pittsburgh
Who has the potential to be the true freshman with the most impact this year?
Rece (5:02 PM)
Hey Matt, I know this is cheating, but you're gonig to see true freshman making impact all over the country. But the ones to keep an eye on are Julio Jones and Mark Ingram from Alabama, Josh Haden at BC, Da'Quan Bowers at Clemson and Terrell Prior in limited duty at OSU.
Rece (5:04 PM)
Thanks everyone for the great questions. We're going to do this every week at 4 PM EST so keep em coming. Don't forget to vote for this week's Game Changing Performances and be sure to watch the game tonight!
