Antonio Freeman (12:56 PM)
Hey Antonio Freeman, Packer legend here to answer your sports questions.
paul
do you ever get the thoughts to come back?
Antonio Freeman (12:56 PM)
Oh all the time. What Brett's going through is nothing different than any other football player, but when you're the best, you can come back, like Favre did.
Josh (0New York)
Do you like showing off your Super Bowl ring?
Antonio Freeman (12:57 PM)
Actually, Favre fractured or dislocated 7 of my 10 fingers, so unfortunately the ring no longer fits.
Mitch (Iowa)
What are the best and worst parts of being retired?
Antonio Freeman (12:58 PM)
The best part of being retired is that you're kind of out of the limelight. The family members aren't asking for as much money as they did when you played. The disadvantage, aside from financially, you miss the comraderie, because the lockerroom became our family, more than our actual family.
Matt (Wisconsin)
Let's get this out of the way...thoughts on the Brett Favre saga?
Antonio Freeman (12:59 PM)
Brett should always be allowed to come back to Green Bay. Because he gives them the best chance to win football games, aside from his beloved history there.
ralph
how weird is it to see Brett in a different uniforM?
Antonio Freeman (12:59 PM)
It was really weird the first day. He was as much a constant as the G ont he Green Bay helmet. It's odd to see him in a different uniform. It almost shouldn't be that way. He should always be a Packer. If he was 50 he should be a Packer.
Dwight (Kansas)
Odds that you will be on Dancing With the Stars?
Antonio Freeman (1:00 PM)
Very good. I'm actually goig to start discussio with those guys for next season. But I'm not a very good dancer. But neither are some of the other guys.
harold (chicago)
what have you been doing with yourself without football?
Antonio Freeman (1:01 PM)
Trying to pursue a career in sports media relations. I'm in pursuit of being a sports commentator or analyst.
Brad (Gadsden,Alabama)
Have you been watching any of the olympics? What is your fav. event?
Antonio Freeman (1:02 PM)
Swimming. I'm a Baltimore guy, so I'm supporting Michael Phelps, who is a Baltimore guy. And of course, basketball is my other favorite event.
Cosmo (Anytown, USA)
What city was the toughest place to play?
Antonio Freeman (1:03 PM)
Minnesota. It was a dome and everyone knew that Brett had problems with domes. We were always just a half a step slower against the Vikings on their turf.
Kevin
Who was the best WR you've ever seen play?
Antonio Freeman (1:03 PM)
Jerry Rice.
Antonio Freeman (1:03 PM)
Smooth route runner, great hands. Big play ability.
Mark (Grundy Center, IA)
What do you think of the 2008 Packers team this year?
Antonio Freeman (1:04 PM)
I think it will be tough for them. I could see them at 9-7, 10-6.
mike (madison, WI)
When you caught that great pass against MN did you always know you had it, or was there a split second when you thought it might have touched the ground?
Antonio Freeman (1:05 PM)
I watched the ball, so I always knew I had it. As I hit the ground, I looked up and I could still see the ball coming down. I knew a deflection was made and I stuck my hands out. There was no doubt in my mind.
SprungOnSports (Long Island)
How long does it usually take a QB to get in synch with his receivers, and how well do you think Brett will adjust in New York?
Antonio Freeman (1:05 PM)
It takes a while. That's the most important position, QB. But after 17 years as a professional, it's not like learning all over again. It's just learning a new way to do it.
Hutch (Htfd)
Would you have rather won that one Superbowl or eight gold medals, any event(s)?
Antonio Freeman (1:06 PM)
Super Bowl. It's the ultimate American game. Even though a gold medal is equally impressive, it doesn't mean as much in our every day life.
Peter
Did you wish you played a little longer?
Antonio Freeman (1:07 PM)
Yes. I look at the careers of the guys like Terrell Owens, Jerry Rice, and I would have loved to have played 13-14 years.
Brad (Gadsden,Alabama)
What do you think of Aaron Rodgers? Will he lead the packers to the playoffs?
Antonio Freeman (1:07 PM)
I think he can lead them to the playoffs. It's not a very strong division. I still think two teams from that division will go, one of them being the Packers. I don't know how far they'll go from there.
Harold (Los Angeles, Ca)
Who defended you the best?
Antonio Freeman (1:08 PM)
Ty Law. He was a physical guy. Whenever we played them, he followed me everywhere ont he field. One time he even followed me to our sidelines.
OJ
Did you ever ask Brett not to throw the ball so hard? Were there eve situations where you told him, hey man, you dont need to throw it so hard if I am wide open?
Antonio Freeman (1:08 PM)
No. As a WR, you're just happy the QB is looking your way. You take it whatever way you can get it. I had to adjust my game tot he hard throws. I didn't ask him to adjust his game to mine.
SprungOnSports (Long Island)
How important are the fans to the Packers, and how do you think they'll react to Aaron Rodgers replacing a legend?
Antonio Freeman (1:09 PM)
The fans are very important in Green Bay. I thikn the fans will have mixed emotions towards Aaron Rodgers, depending on wins and losses.
Antonio Freeman (1:10 PM)
I know a lot of players and fans have mixed emotiosn about the whole QB thing, so I would anticipate it being a very emotionally tough season for Aaron Rodgers. But they'll still make the playoffs.
Cosmo (Anytown, USA)
Who was the player that hit you the hardest?
Antonio Freeman (1:10 PM)
Mike Zordich, Philadelphia Eagles. Broke my jaw. Hit my while I wasn't looking.
Brad (Gadsden,Alabama)
How many more years will Brett Favre play?
Antonio Freeman (1:12 PM)
Two.
Steve (Rochester, NY)
With the addition of Brett Favre many people have declared the Jets as the second best team in the AFC East but I still think Buffalo has more talent. Are the Bills going to be a playoff-caliber team this season?
Antonio Freeman (1:13 PM)
Yes. They are very powerful on offense. They're solid defensively. I thikn they'll be able to score enough points to win more games this season.
Sam (Lake Bluff)
Best pre-game meal?
Antonio Freeman (1:13 PM)
Considering they were all the same, I would go pancake, bacon, eggs. Your typical all-American breakfast.
George (Long Beach, Ca)
Favorite Packer coach while you played?
Antonio Freeman (1:14 PM)
Gil Haskill, who now is an assistant coach witht he Seahawks. He taught me how to be patient and to play the game.
Nate (Madison)
What's your take on Greg Jennings? What's the potential for this guy?
Antonio Freeman (1:14 PM)
His potential is the sky. The sky is the limit. He's smooth. He can run, he can catch. Aside from all of that, he has great character.
Jake (Oregon)
Antonio I was a huge fan of your career in Green Bay I still remember that catch against Minnesota. What was it like playing with Favre?
Antonio Freeman (1:15 PM)
He was just like one of the guys. We really never got blown away with who he actually was, until he made those great plays on Sundays. That made us realize that we were playing with one of the greats.
Antonio Freeman (1:16 PM)
It was a pleasure chatting sports talk. Even though I am a former Green Bay Packer, I am a sports fanatic. Don't hold back next time.
