Chat with Illinois QB Juice Williams

Williams, a junior, enters his third season as the starting quarterback for the Illini. He led Illinois to a 9-4 record and an appearance in the Rose Bowl last year, while improving in nearly every offensive category.
As a sophomore, Williams passed for career highs in both yards (1,743) and touchdowns (13). He had a single-game career-high 245 yards in the Rose Bowl against USC. He also ran for 755 yards and seven TDs, both career highs.
Send in your questions now and join Williams at 1:15 p.m. ET on Thursday!

Nathan Powless Marion, Illinois
What are some of personal and team goals this season?
Juice Williams (1:14 PM)
Personally, I don't set numbers goals - TDs or anything. I just want to be a better QB. Better passer, team leader. For the team, we just want to be consistent.
JP (Rockford, IL)
Juice, do you like opening up against a tough opponent like Missouri and on the national stage? It gives you a chance to show the country what you can do. Good luck!
Juice Williams (1:15 PM)
Most definitely. You open up with a weaker opponent, you get questions about the team and how good you are. But if you open up against a top team like Missouri, you know where you stand. It's our archrival and a game we look forward to every year.
Brad (Gadsden,Alabama)
Juice, Have you been watching any of the olympics? What is your fav. event?
Juice Williams (1:16 PM)
Favorite event so far has been swimming. Michael Phelps has done an exceptional job. I wasn't a big fan of swimming, but this Olympics, he's represented himself well.

Have you ever been yelled at by a receiver when you run out of the pocket and they claim they are wide open?
Juice Williams (1:17 PM)
No, I've never gotten into a heated argument with my receivers. We're friends and we don't come down on each other. It's always constructive criticism.
Jon (Minny)
Where does the Ohio St game last year rank for you in your football career? Top moment of all time?
Juice Williams (1:17 PM)
Definitely one of the top. It's way up there. It's one of those things in my career I will never forget. Whether I play at the next level or I'm done this year, I'll always remember that. It's hard to put into words, but I'll always have it.
Jon (Chitown)
Hey Juice, love watching you play. How are you going to replace the loss of Mendenhall? Good luck this year!
Juice Williams (1:18 PM)
For one we have to step up. We have a good group of backs that can step up. I'll still be back there not just running around but I've worked hard on becoming a better passer.
DJ Minneapolis
Juice thanks for a great season last year. What is it like on Campus this year? A lot of high expectations?
Juice Williams (1:20 PM)
A lot of people around campus see the team taht we have coming back from last year's Rose Bowl appearance. That's what we want to give to those guys, they've been behind us. The guys around here love football. The more we win the more we're like rock stars around here. It's definitely an exciting experience.
Yorsif (St Paul)
Any chance of you just putting JUICE on your uniform?
Juice Williams (1:20 PM)
That would be nice. I would love to see Juice on the uniform. But no one can be above the team. Everyone has their last name on the back of their jersey.

Is it true you talked Coach Zook into going for it on 4th and 1 in the 4th quarter against Ohio State last year?
Juice Williams (1:21 PM)
Yes. Yes it is. We had the famous conversation at that moment. He was planning on punting the ball, but OSU called a timeout. I thought we could get that one yard and he believed in me.
Tim (Port St Lucie)
Juice love the energy you bring to the game. How are teams going to play you now that they have seen the play action?
Juice Williams (1:22 PM)
Now that we'll throw the ball down the field, I think teams will have to react. We're not going to be a one-dimensional team. That will give teams that much more problems.
Deron (Columbus)
You know both teams...can OSU beat USC?
Juice Williams (1:23 PM)
It's going to be a brawl. Both teams are excellent. I've seen both defenses. It's amazing how good they both are on both sides of the ball. It's going to be a great game. It's really going to be a dog fight.
Jake, San Diego
I'm a Michigan fan, but appreciate the turnaround happening at Illinois. What is the most intimidating Big Ten stadium you've played in?
Juice Williams (1:24 PM)
Probably Penn State. Winsconsin definitely. OSU. Those places really get loud. My freshman year, I went to Wisconsin and PSU and to see all the people in their team colors. That was pretty intimidating. All three were great atmospheres.
John (DC)
So once bowl games start, do you cheer for teams in the Big 10? Like were you cheering for against Ohio St in the championship last year?
Juice Williams (1:25 PM)
Definitely. You always want to represent your conference well. Especially since people criticise the Big Ten for their performances in the bowl games and out of conference games.
Kyle (Louisville, KY)
How much has Benn been able to help you improve on your passing game?
Juice Williams (1:25 PM)
He's a guy that's going to go up and get the ball. If he's near it, he's going to get it. Having a guy like that makes it easier.
Jason (New York, NY)
What do you think will be your toughest road challenge this year?
Juice Williams (1:26 PM)
Comign out and trying to win that first game. Missouri is a great team. Going out and getting those guys the first game will be hard. I think that will be one of the toughest parts of our schedule this year.
Dan (Roselle, IL)
You really started something in Champaign. How does it feel to know that your commitment put Illinois on the map?
Juice Williams (1:27 PM)
It feels great. You feel like you've made a start and knowing that I was one of the first guys to come on board makes me proud to be an Illini.
Juice Williams (1:27 PM)
Go Illini!
