Bethanie is here!
Bethanie Mattek (11:04 AM)
Hey, what's up?
Kyle
What's the best part of being on tour?
Bethanie Mattek (11:05 AM)
Probably traveling, which is the best and worst part. You get to see a lot of places, but you are always away from home.
Rachel (Miami)
Does leopard print ever go out of style? I say no.
Bethanie Mattek (11:05 AM)
I will agree with that. It never goes out of style.
Zach (Bristol)
Bethanie, how different is Minnesota from Miami?
Bethanie Mattek (11:06 AM)
It is actually opposite. I like Minnestoa but I have not been back in a while. In Miami you do not have the four seasons, and I do not have to play tennis in doors all the time. Plus there are a lot more tennis players in Florida.
Ophelia (Ohio)
How long do you want to play on the tour?
Bethanie Mattek (11:07 AM)
Good question. It depends on how long I enjoy it and hoe my body holds up. It comes down to how I hold up mentally and physically.
Daniel
Who has better fashions sense, you or Serena Williams?
Bethanie Mattek (11:08 AM)
Serena is a good friend of mine. She gets her stuff from Nike and I like her stuff. But I think we have different tastes so I don't know who is better. We just have our own styles.
Jason, Chicago, IL
Bethanie, I watched your match vs. Cornet (on TV, only the 1st set was shown) and all I can say is don't be discouraged. You played a great first set. You perplexed Cornet with your aggressiveness and versatility and you were rolling in the tiebreak. You'll be in this position again. Be strong, girl. Oh, yeah, I agree with you that Fabrice Santoro rocks! Have you met him? Is he cool?
Bethanie Mattek (11:09 AM)
Yes I have met him, and he is very nice and polite. We haven't talked much but I am still trying to play mixed doubles with him.
Jason: (Greensboro, NC)
With your deft touch around the net, why did you choose not to play doubles at the U.S. Open this year?
Bethanie Mattek (11:10 AM)
My partners had to withdaw and then it was a scramble to find a new one. I had a few injuries coming in as well, so the fewer matches would have been better as a result of the injuries. And I really wanted to focus on my singles game here at the tournament.

Those are some pretty sweet socks you wear out on the court. Do WTA officials or players ever says things to you about your style?
Bethanie Mattek (11:11 AM)
Well the players will be curious as to what I am wearing next. They seem to like my style. I have gotten in trouble with the WTA before. I have been on the line as far as tennis apparel goes.
Stephanie (Miami)
Where can I get my hands on one of those stripped cowboys hats you wore?
Bethanie Mattek (11:11 AM)
I actually bought that in the village in NYC in a random hat shop there.
Peter (NYC)
If you could only win one major, which one would it be and why?
Bethanie Mattek (11:12 AM)
Definitely the US Open because being an American and playing there is very special. I think it is the most exciting grand slam, and it has so much energy.
Pete (Queens)
Who's your favorite on the men's tour (in tennis terms, of course)?
Bethanie Mattek (11:13 AM)
You know what it has to be Fabrice because his game is so fun to watch. And I also love watching Safin...he is such a hot headed player. It is always fun to see the emotional side of him.
Jeremy
What would you say if the WTA made a rule so all the players had to speak English?
Bethanie Mattek (11:14 AM)
Well most of the players already speak English. I would have to say English is the most spoken language on the tour.
Ken
Dude where do you find those funky outfits?
Bethanie Mattek (11:16 AM)
BeeBee sports has been designing all my outfits. I get a say in the fabrics and colors. As far as style on a particular day it depends on my mood.
Bethanie Mattek (11:16 AM)
Thanks for all the support. It really makes a difference. I can always feel the support and I really appreciate it.
