Chat with Sergio Mora
![]() |
Mora (21-0-1) squares off with Vernon Forrest (40-3) as he tries to defend his WBC belt. The fight is a part of the fight card of the Joel Casamayor and Juan Manuel bout on HBO Pay-Per-View starting at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT from MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on September 13.
Mora won Forrest's title belt back in June via a 12-round decision. The only blemish on Mora's record came in October 2007 when Elvin Ayala scored a draw against him. Other than that, Mora has not lost in any of his 22 professional fights. He won four of those fights as a contestant on the TV show "The Contender."
Send in your questions now and then join Mora at 2 p.m. ET on Wednesday!

Sergio Mora (2:05 PM)
Hello everybody, especially to my fans and to all the people who will tune in September 13!
Vance (Philadelphia)
What is your training like in preparing for a fight?
Sergio Mora (2:06 PM)
I train differently for every fighter. Styles make fights, so I try to adapt to their styles. I try to eithe be the aggressor or boxer, and will mix it up on occasion, depending on the opponent.
Hank (Miami)
What is Forrest's biggest strength that you need to watch out for?
Sergio Mora (2:07 PM)
His experience is what makes him a dangerous fighterl. You always have to be on your toes. He does have power and he does have speed, but he is very tricky. His veteran mindset and moves will make him dangerous.
Bill (Chicago)
What is your biggest advantage over Forrest in the ring?
Sergio Mora (2:07 PM)
I think it's the fact that I have a lot of different moves. He has a herky-jerky style, but I have fresher legs. I will feint more effectively and go for the body more effectively.
Erik (LA)
What are your thoughts on the other big fight on Sept. 13, between Casamayor and Marquez?
Sergio Mora (2:08 PM)
I think it's going to be a boxing exhibition at first--a lot of counterpunching. I think Marquez will get the best of it, and I'm pulling for him, but Casamayor will get some good shots in.
Diane - The Snake Pit
Hey Sergio, I chatted with Dean about 2 weeks ago, and he said that you were looking real sharp, so how are you feeling now that camp is winding down, and are you on target to make weight comfortably? We all wish you good luck, and look forward to another victory celebration!
Sergio Mora (2:09 PM)
The weight will always be an issue. It was a weight that I never hit before the first time, but it shouldn't be a huge problem. I do feel strong and focused. My sparring partners have been feeling the effect of my power, so I think everything is coming along very well.
Paul (Pittsburgh)
How do you think your appearance on Contender has helped you?
Sergio Mora (2:10 PM)
It's helped tremendously. The popularity of the show put me in peoples' households. But I've always been a good fighter--the TV show gave me better opportunities. It definitely helped a lot, to be exposed.
Zo (AZ)
You're not a "knockout" type fighter, but more of a crafty boxer; can you ever see yourself taking a punch to give a punch and make more action type fights?
Sergio Mora (2:11 PM)
Yes, I think I'm going to do that for this fight. I usually don't like to get hit, and I like to win a fight decisively. If I do get hit, I become an aggressor. I'll be more of that in this fight, and so will Forrest.
Walter (Albuquerque, NM)
With De La Hoya retiring, who is the biggest name out there that you want to make a fight with?
Sergio Mora (2:11 PM)
Kelly Pavlik.
Marty (Chesterfield, MI)
Would you like to fight Elvin Ayala again, so you can avenge the only blemish on your record?
Sergio Mora (2:12 PM)
Yes, one day. I got to know Elvin pretty well, as I've had him as a training mate. He's a great guy. But if that fight can materialize, it would be worth it for the fans and for both of us.
Alex(Los Angeles, Ca.)
If you get past Forest, who do you see fighting next?
Sergio Mora (2:13 PM)
If I get past Forrest, I could see a lot of things happening. I'm gooing to try to resolve this mess with sanctioning bodies, mandatories, and challengers, but I think I'll end up fighting the winner of the Martinez fight in October.
Zo (AZ)
How long do you want to fight for?
Sergio Mora (2:14 PM)
I started boxing very late, at about 16, and I only had 45 amateur fights. I think I'll have a late career. I also took two years off and fought only two or three times a year. I could see myself going to 34 or so. I plan on fighting until I'm ready to be done, though.
Sergio Mora (2:14 PM)
Thanks everyone!
