Pontiac Game Changing Performance

Davis will be chatting about the season as well as the Pontiac Game Changing Performances seen during the games.
John (New York)
East Carolina has been a huge surprise so far this season. Do you expect them to see a bowl game?
Rece Davis (5:07 PM)
Hey Everyone! They will absolutely be in a bowl game. But the question is if it's a BCS bowl game. It's going to be tough along the way to watch out for the let down game, but a bowl game is a definite.
Henderson ,Texas
Is KNowshon Moreno a probable canidate for the Heisman this year?
Rece Davis (5:09 PM)
No doubt about it. We were chastised by Mark Richt for not showing the play. He was kidding around, but he was right. His candadicy was sealed when he leaped over that Central Michigan defender. That's your Heisman "WOW" moment.
Tulsa
After putting up good numbers by sam bradford of oklahoma. Why is his name not being mentioned for hiesman
Rece Davis (5:10 PM)
I think because at the moment, Sam is looked at as an efficient operator with a myriad of weapons. If he continues to put up such big numbers, he will definitely be in the Heisman competition.
David (White Plains)
Hey Rece, can the referees be nominated for a game changing performance? The cardinal sin of being a ref is don't influence the outcome of games which clearly happened here. What should happen to this crew? Suspension?
Rece Davis (5:13 PM)
Hey David, great question. I don't believe they should be suspended. I've had two conversations with the National Coordinator of Officials. It was a judgement call. Players should be shown a little more lattitude about celebrating. There's a difference between taunting and celebrating. The rule book says that you can't throw the ball "high" in the air. The refs should be using more discretion and give the benefit of the doubt to emotion and not the other way around.
Tom (Houston)
can kstate be a contender in the big 12
Rece Davis (5:14 PM)
Tom, I don't think so this year. I think they can cause some noise with their QB and some speed at other positions. But, I don't think they're a contender to win the conference. But, they will have a winning season and go to a bowl game.
Chris (Lawrence KS)
Rece, where do you get your ties man? The tie from the UCLA/Tenn game, as well as the one you wore on the set this past thursday were both pretty rockin'. Also, how do you see my 'hawks matching up agianst USF this Fri. night? Thanks
Rece Davis (5:17 PM)
I get my ties only at the finest men's stores across the fruited plane. I think Kansas matches up really well. I am done saying that Kansas will have a hard time matching defensive speed. But Todd Reesing should always know where George Selvie is.
Adam (Columbus, OH)
Besides Terrelle Pryor, who do you think will be an x-factor for Ohio State to help them defeat USC? P.S. Tell Mark May to stop sounding like he is an alum of USC. I think he is just upset that he didn't get recruited by good schools like Ohio State or USC!!
Rece Davis (5:19 PM)
First of all, Mark's teams won a whole lot of games at Pitt. I think there are 2 X-factors: 1) Beanie Wells who will have to control the ball for OSU to have a chance to win and 2) Lawrence Wilson will need to generate a big pass rush on Mark Sanchez and that will have a huge impact on how effective SC's offense can be.
Michael, Huntsvile
Rece, How does Alabama roll over clemson by controlling both sides of the ball, then struggle with CUSA team Tulane, scoring only one offensive touchdown? Bama has been this way for years, even through the tough times Bama plays the big opponents close(i.e. Oklahoma, LSU, Auburn, etc...) then struggles with the Dukes, LA Monroes, Tulanes, etc... What is the deal?
Rece Davis (5:22 PM)
I think the answer is three-fold. 1) you have a brand new team every week. This is certainly evidenced in Alabama's case. 2) It's takes young teams time to learn consistency of performance which is what Saban teaches. 3) Maybe they just aren't good enough to handle the teams they should handle. I think it's a combination of all of those.
Storm ( Griffin G.A.)
Who do you think is the nations best running back?
Rece Davis (5:23 PM)
Moreno, definitely. I think he runs with efficient attitude. He's got enough speed, he brakes tackles with the best of them. There are other really good backs in the country, but if I had to pick one, I go with Moreno.
Andrew (Houston)
Hey Rece, I think LSU is once again the most underrated of the top 10 schools. What do you think their chances are of repeating?
Rece Davis (5:24 PM)
Hey Andrew! If they get good QB play, they certainly have a chace. Their schedule is really difficult, but their QB play is key. They match up with anybody in the country at all other positions. But, QB is the question mark.
CHARLES (HOUSTON)
WHAT DO YOU THINK OF DEZ BRYANT OF OKLAHOMA STATE. AND THE PERFORMANCE HE HAD SATURDAY
Rece Davis (5:26 PM)
Great job by Bryant. It was worthy of a helmet sticker of CFB Final. I think if they can get solid defensive play, they can make some noise in the Big 12.
Jeff (State College)
What do you think of Penn State's new spread HD offense? and what kind of shot do they have at making a run at the big ten?
Rece Davis (5:27 PM)
Good call Jeff. I think they have the best shot of anyone to beat Ohio State in the Big Ten. I have been really impressed by their high level of execution. They haven't played anyone of substance yet. But, sometimes you could just tell with how they execute.
Kevin (Vancouver)
Terrelle Pryor gets a lot of hype... compared to Oregon True Frosh QB Chris Harper he looks slow, scared, not near as strong and less poised. Harper has better numbers against similar if not better competition. Where is Harper's HYPE?
Rece Davis (5:30 PM)
Hey Kevin. I don't think it's caught on yet because they haven't played a big national game yet. If he performs against Purdue, then we'll see. They're still bringing him along in the passing game, much like Pryor. Harper's still developing as a passer and I think he'll have great impact in games as people get to know him.
Chuck(Grayson)
Do you think Ohio State is over ranked? They barely got past Ohio.
Rece Davis (5:31 PM)
Let's see how they play Sat. night Chuck. Those veteron guys at OSU have some built up equity. Let's not judge them on one game. Let's see how they do Saturday night.
Taylor (Augusta, GA)
Hey Rece, what do you think about the game in Columbia this weekend. These games are traditionally low scoring. How will UGA's high powered offense do against South Carolina's stingy defense?
Rece Davis (5:33 PM)
Taylor, the Dawg's didn't get a TD against them last year. Spurrier's been a thorn in their side. I think their defense matches up with anyone. But, the question is: How many times will S. Carolina's offense put their defense in a bad position with a short field? If they do that this week, they will have no shot at upsetting Georgia.
Scott (Greenville,NC)
Hey Rece, i love gameday live... but my question is if ECU's Patrick Pinkney continues to produce the way he has been with over 80% pass completion and the Pirates keep winning how long will it be before he is a serious heisman contender
Rece Davis (5:35 PM)
First, if he can complete 80% of his passes for the whole season, they should just give it to him. I believe that would be a new record. But, for real...If ECU keeps playing the way they are and remain a BCS buster candidate and he keeps his level of play up there, we'd have to consider him in the mix.
Kevin ( Tallahassee)
What do you think about FSU hanging 69 on Saturday? I know it was an FCS school who wasn't very good last year but 69 points is still the most this year by anyone in the FBS.
Rece Davis (5:37 PM)
Kevin, they need to show me some O against the big boys. It was a feel good night and it's always good to rack up some points when you can. But, I don't think it's too terribly revealing till they play a Defense with a healthier pulse.
Jerry, Orlando
Honestly Rece, who did you vote for this week's Pontiac Game Changer?
Rece Davis (5:39 PM)
Great question Jerry. I haven't voted yet for Pontiac GCP. I don't know if i'm allowed to lobby, but I think I'd have to vote for the kid from Rice. It was a pick 6 to win the game. How better to be a Game Changer than to snuff out the threat of a score and then taking the ball away and scoring yourself?
Dave (Canton)
Regarding OSU-USC : Has anyone noticed that the OSU wide receivers have not been able to get open/seperation in either of their 1st 2 games against supposedly weaker opponents. I see this as a potential problem for them, especially with the running game in question due to Beanie Wells' injury. Comments?
Rece Davis (5:41 PM)
Very good observation Dave. It's been made by a couple of our analysts as well. It is a concern. OSU has very good receivers, but I don't know that they have a game breaker right now. That would certainly help the running game. They have some guys that can play, but I don't know if I'd consider anyone a game breaker.
matt (auburn, al)
does auburn have a good chance in winning the sec
Rece Davis (5:43 PM)
If they get good QB play, Matt. Their Defense is FILTHY! Auburn could beat anyone on their schedule with their defense and I'm not so sure it isn't the best defense in the conference. They aren't as good as Florida or Georgia right now, but they will certainly have a chance if they make it to the SEC title game.
I. M. DaBess (Heidelberg, MS)
You guys are not giving Notre Dame a chance, you got to remember, SDSU was our first game. Just wait until we beat USC by 17 and then talk.
Rece Davis (5:45 PM)
IM DaBess? It seems like UR UnRealistic. Great that you support your team, I look forward to your email, but I will not hold my breath.
Jason (Los Angeles)
Rece, is there any way to influence a future rule change for the ridiculously tight new celebration rules? I mean, is there someone that we can write to? I know the refs aren't the ones to be blamed for the Washington loss, as they were simply following the rules. It's the rules themselves that need addressing. Any way we can help?
Rece Davis (5:47 PM)
Excellent question Jason. Coaches are the ones that have influence. Coaches have to answer questionaires at season's end on all the rules. I'd like to see them loosen the rules, but it's mostly in the coaches and rules committee's hands.
Mark (Henderson, KY)
Rece. I really enjoy your work on ESPN. Is your use of the phrase 'toe meets leather' inspired by the late, great Al Ciraldo, who did Ga. Tech play-by-play for so many years? If so, how did you come across it? Thanks!
Rece Davis (5:49 PM)
Absolutely! I grew up in the south and I was one of those kids before cable. I used to search the radio looking for every game I could find. I used to listen to Al calling Ga. Tech. games. It's definitely a tribute to Al and I'm glad you noticed.
Rece Davis (5:50 PM)
Hey Everyone, we have about 10 minutes left, so keep em comin!
thrILL! (Oceanside, CA)
Do you think the recent trend of dramatic jumps and drops in rankings will continue depending on competition or off weeks? I think it makes the early rankings more worthwhile this way.
Rece Davis (5:51 PM)
No, i think it should happen that way in the early part of the season as pollsters get a good handle on how good teams really are. To lock in a try to validate your early predictions is the wrong way to vote. I think it's good to have the fluctuations to see where everyone stands. Good question Thrill!
Scott, Boston
What does the Cuse need to do to turn it around? When they finally cut Robinson, who is a good option for them?
Rece Davis (5:54 PM)
Well, I don't like to get into the biz of firing coaches, especially 2 weeks into the season. I'm not going to speculate on a coaching replacement. But at some point you have to win games. The most obvious reason is that they need better players, but I don't know if Robinson will have the time to make the changes they need.
Scott (Greenville, NC)
If ECU goes undefeated this year that would make them 14-0 if we can pull it off where will the polls have us?
Rece Davis (5:55 PM)
Scott, i would say that if they run the table, they'll be in the top 4. They won't play for the national championship because of their conference schedule, but they will be in the top 4 if they run the table through their bowl game.
Chuck(Grayson)
If Beenie Wells can't play next Saturday against USC, do you think it will take away from the hype of the game?
Rece Davis (5:56 PM)
I don't think so. These are two traditional powerhouse who have been great in recent years. I don't think one guy, even as big a star as Beanie, will lessen the spotlight on this game at all.
Dan (Temecula, CA)
Why doesn't BYU get more credit for making a great play? All you hear from national media is how UW was "Robbed". I didn't see the official get in there and block the kick!
Rece Davis (6:00 PM)
We tried to point this out several times. The officials didn't cost UW the game. No one is saying BYU didn't deserve to win the game. We're just saying that UW didn't deserve the penalty.
Rece Davis (6:01 PM)
Alright Everyone, I'm signing off for the day. Don't forget to come back next week to chat at 4 PM EST and please vote for this week's Pontiac Game Changing Performance!
