Keith Lipscomb (3:01 PM)
Good afternoon everyone. Lots of questions to get to, so I won't delay (at least anymore than my fingers will allow me to).
Chris(Hoboken, NJ)
Brady owner. 12 team, 2 keeper PPR league. I trade Brady and my #1 pick in next year's draft(technically 3rd round after keepers) for Matt Schaub & Reggie Wayne. That would give me Wayne, Ocho Cinco, & Cotchery to go along with Gore and Reggie Bush, as well as Tony Gonzalez. Right now I have Jason Campbell as my QB.
Keith Lipscomb (3:02 PM)
I don't have a big problem with that move, Chris, because I always play for THIS SEASON and worry about next year later. While Brady could come back and be lights out again next year, you'll still have plenty of picks to come up with another great team. Schaub over Campbell is an upgrade.
Chris (Boston, MA)
With Colston going down with an injury do you think David patten would be worth an add for Courtney Taylor?
Keith Lipscomb (3:03 PM)
Yes, although Patten's not a sexy option, he should be more consistent than many players you'll find on the waiver wire out there. Brees will spread it around.
Tim (Towson)
Who should I sit out of Run-DMC, Chris Johnson, and Thomas Jones?
Keith Lipscomb (3:05 PM)
I keep Thomas Jones in for sure, because he's a full-time player. And I like Chris Johnson slightly more than McFadden this week. But since both are in time-shares, it's just a hunch on my part.
Jim(Wausau, WI)
Do you like Slaton or Graham better as a #2 RB this week?
Keith Lipscomb (3:06 PM)
Graham for sure. I'm not big on Texans RBs these days.
ezra (brooklyn NY)
my TE is Dallas Clark. to pick up a replacement for him for this week, i would have to drop one of the following: ray rice, mendenhall, l. coles, desean jackson, or kurt warner (romo is my #1 qb). any advice on who i should let go?
Keith Lipscomb (3:07 PM)
Well, Ezra, Mendenhall is the least likely of the group to get regular opportunities currently, so he'd be my choice.
Ryan (Dover)
Hey Keith, the guy in my league who lost Brady is (understandably) hurting at QB. He also has Colston ... my QB is Romo and my backup is Warner ... I hate to give up such a quality backup QB, but should I offer Warner for Colston?
Keith Lipscomb (3:09 PM)
Remember that Colston is out for 4-6 weeks, so as long as you can handle it depth-wise on your roster, it's not a bad thought. Also, it would depend a little on which QBs are on the waiver wire, because while the plan is to play Romo every week, it IS nice to have peace of mind having such a decent backup.
Jordan G (Birmingham, AL)
What value do you give Selvin Young as a fantasy option for the immediate future and in the long run?
Keith Lipscomb (3:10 PM)
I don't mean to be wishy-washy in answering this, Jordan, but your guess may be as good as mine. Shanahan seemed to split 'em up pretty good between Young/Hall/Pittman in the opener and I suspect he'll go with the hot hand each week until we see differently. It doesn't bode well for playing Young in the meantime, but I do think he's the most talented of the backs (not sure if Shanahan agrees or not, though).
steve,LA
Hi Keith, Who do you like at flex: Javon Walker, Santana Moss, Chris Chambers, Julius Jones or Ahman Green? Thanks
Keith Lipscomb (3:11 PM)
I think I'd go with Julius Jones, because he should get most of the carries, especially with Maurice Morris out. And maybe he finds the end zone once, too.
Mike (Albany, NY)
Keith, this week's ESPN.com "Best of the Blogs" section has me concerned about Antonio Gates having to miss an extended period of time at some point, so I'm thinking of "selling high" here. Do you think trading Gates and Ocho Cinco for Larry Fitzgerald and Shockey is smart? Thanks.
Keith Lipscomb (3:14 PM)
Hi Mike. I like Fitzgerald more than 85 this season overall, especially since the O.C. is one bad fall or big hit from hitting the shelf, too. While Gates should be more productive than Shockey if they both stay healthy, that's not such a bad deal in the grand scheme of things. It's a fair trade, all things considered.
brad (OH)
Would you start Derek Anderson against a tough D or Hasselback against the shoddy Niners even though he has no one to throw to?
Keith Lipscomb (3:17 PM)
That's a great question, Brad. I would actually rank them next to each other this week. I don't think either is a top-10 option this week, but I actually trust Hasselbeck to manage the game better than I do Anderson. The Browns' offense is scuffling because they haven't played together much this season and the Steelers will make Anderson get rid of the ball fast. And without Donte' Stallworth, Anderson has one less quality weapon at his disposal. He threw 3 TDs last year in a game against the Steelers, but he only totaled 123 yards on 35 pass attempts, so that was fluky in my mind. I side (albeit barely) with Hasselbeck.
Dan (New York)
Do you think Sammy Morris is a better play over Jamal Lewis vs Pittsburgh?
Keith Lipscomb (3:18 PM)
Actually, I do, even though Morris may get fewer touches than Lewis. Pittsburgh is pretty stingy and the Browns could be coming from behind in that game, so they could wind up abandoning the run game.
Raul (Philadelphia, Pa)
What's up Keith at TE in a non-ppr league. Do you like Gonzalez or H. Miller?
Keith Lipscomb (3:20 PM)
It's always a crapshoot with TEs because you never know when the TDs will come, but Gonzalez is a must-start in my mind and his value is actually enhanced by Huard at QB. The Browns DO have trouble dealing with TEs, but I like Gonzalez to get more yards.
Mark (WI)
My opponent this week is starting Hasselbeck. Because of this would you start C. Taylor for your WR3 or go with A. Bryant, V. Jackson?
Keith Lipscomb (3:22 PM)
I'm actually opposed to starting a receiver just to negate any positive value my opponent may get from that receiver's QB. Only start who you think will get the most points. If that's Taylor, then so be it. I personally want to see Taylor play well before I put him in any lineup. I would go with Bryant among those three.
Tim (Latrobe, PA)
PLEASE STOP PICKING QUESTIONS WITH SUCH OBVIOUS ANSWERS! Try this one on: PPR League -- I have to BENCH one of the following: Welker (@ NJY) ? He?s still every-week in a 12-team-PPR, in my opinion. Marshall (vs. SD) -- He?s every-week, right? Chris Johnson (@ Cin) ? Should tear up that swiss cheese D Thanks in advance.
Keith Lipscomb (3:24 PM)
I just take 'em how they come, Tim. I agree that Welker is still a play every week. Cassel should be able to get him the ball, so I'm not concerned. And since Marshall got at least 6 targets in every game last season and had at least 50 yards in all but one of them, I gotta start him, too. I know Johnson could explode against a soft Cincy D, but I'm having a hard time benching those two proven receivers. Very tough call.
Bob
Keith, Palmer or Schaub this week, both tough matchups. WR3, Anthony Gonzalez or Eddie Royal?
Keith Lipscomb (3:27 PM)
I'm going with Palmer over Schaub at QB. He should bounce back from last week to some extent. And I think I'd play Royal over Gonzalez if Dallas Clark plays. If he doesn't, then I think Gonzalez becomes a greater factor against Minnesota.
Kevin-Spokane
Need help badly, after Brady went down, Start 2...Pick from Bulger, Tavaris, Griese or Collins.
Keith Lipscomb (3:29 PM)
Based strictly on matchups, since these are matchup-type QBs mostly, I'd go with Bulger and Griese. I'm just not very confident in Jackson yet, and even though Collins plays a weak defense, the Titans may make their hay on the ground.
Ernie (San Diego):
Been offered Whitten in a trade for RB. RB's are Lynch, Barber, Edge, T.Jones, Graham, Perry. He is asking for T.Jones or Graham. Who is more valuable and which do I let go of?
Keith Lipscomb (3:29 PM)
I'd trade Graham before Jones ... and I'd do that in a second, considering your depth in the backfield.
Andy (NY)
Best WR rookie this year: Royal or D. Jackson and why?
Keith Lipscomb (3:32 PM)
I actually like Jackson more, because I think his team will throw more and especially currently, his team needs him more on a weekly basis. While I was impressed with Royal in Week 1, I think Marshall's return will put a decent-sized crimp in his value going forward. Once Curtis and Reggie Brown return, I'm interested to see if Jackson remains on the field all the time. I think he'll still be out there.
Billy (LA)
Who rides the pine this week? I can start 2 from Fitz, Housh, and Marshall. Start 2 from S Jax, Gore, and Bush. 10 team keeper, no ppr.
Keith Lipscomb (3:35 PM)
First of all, let me say I want no part of that decision-making each week. You're bound to be wrong a lot! :-) But I'd say Fitz and Marshall this week. Let the Bengals get things figured out first. And in the backfield, I like Gore and Bush, even without the PPR. I think the Saints will keep finding ways to get Bush favorable matchups.
Keith (DE)
Keith, how do you view Ronnie Brown for '08 and as a keeper? Will he make it back what we saw in the beginning last year... a top 10 RB?
Keith Lipscomb (3:37 PM)
While I do think Brown surpasses Ricky Williams as the team's No. 1 option sometime soon, I think expecting him to return to the top 10 might be too generous. It usually takes a least a year to get it all back from such an injury, so he'll be better in '09.
Jimbo (Baton Rouge)
With Clark's iffy knee, would you play Scheffler over him this week?
Keith Lipscomb (3:38 PM)
I could definitely see that, Jimbo. Minnesota's defense is decent, so even if Clark is healthy, he'd be facing a solid unit. Scheffler should benefit in the middle of the field with SD having to deal with Marshall (and now Royal, even).
BJ, Philly
Dynasty league, long-term (got Brady).. Am very thin at wr but got MoJo, Burner Turner, Graham, McFadden, Fargas, Slaton- sell one of my rb's for an elite wr, and which rb? Am considering MoJo for fitz or braylon
Keith Lipscomb (3:41 PM)
You'll probably have to wait for a better performance from MJD to get full value, but if you could get either of those WRs, you'd be doing well, especially with Turner and Graham still as starters.
Dave (Detroit)
Keith, challenge yourself and take this question. Does Ahmad Bradshaw have any business on a roster in a 12 team league? Would you rather have Bradshaw, Andre Hall, Michael Pittman or Jamaal Charles stashed on your bench?
Keith Lipscomb (3:43 PM)
Wow! Y'all are just hitting me with challenges today, aren't you? I have Bradshaw in a league and I'm being patient right now, with similar guys on the wire. It's certainly possible that Hall or Pittman could emerge as "the guy" in Denver, but I don't like to play that guessing game. And while Charles has burst and all, that Chiefs line scares me enough to stay away. I'm being patient right now and waiting to see if an injury changes things in New York.
eno (Jersey City)
Does Rosario have staying power? Him or Zach Miller? thanks!!
Keith Lipscomb (3:45 PM)
I think things will be a bit different once Steve Smith is back, so I'd still go with Zach Miller for the season over Rosario. But I could be easily persuaded in the next two weeks.
Keith (Danbury CT)
Warner over Mcnabb this weekend? And is it safe to play Royal alongside Marshall (return yards count) or should I go with Roddy White?
Keith Lipscomb (3:47 PM)
I like Warner slightly over McNabb this week, but I think both will play well. And I'm not sure of how many points you get for return yards, but I think I'd still go with White over Royal. Then again, I've apparently become a Roddy White apologist, I hear.
Kyle(Philadelphia)
Coles or Fargus no ppr?
Keith Lipscomb (3:47 PM)
Fargas. More opportunities.
Ryan (New York):
Who would you rather has greater upside P.Thomas or Perry?
Keith Lipscomb (3:48 PM)
Unless Deuce McAllister or Reggie Bush missed extended time, Thomas' touches will be limited, so Perry is the better option. Remember, the Bengals are playing two tough defenses to start the season. I'm encouraged by the fact he got 19 of the 21 RB carries last week, too.
Carl (Alabama)
Is it in my best interest to trade Edgerrin James and Jon Kitna for Jamal Lewis? I have Kitna buried in my depth chart, he's my 3rd option.
Keith Lipscomb (3:49 PM)
I think you can do better than that, Carl. While Kitna may be your third option, you shouldn't have to also give up another player to get Lewis, who may not reach last year's numbers.
Matt,MPLS
Does Barber's injury scare you enough to start FWP over him? I am also starting portis.
Keith Lipscomb (3:51 PM)
I'm not worried about Barber. He was a full participant in practice and should be fine. That being said, I would start Parker over Portis this week.
Keith (Danbury CT)
Regarding Royal, I get a point for every 20 yards returned....
Keith Lipscomb (3:52 PM)
Since I happened to catch your follow-up, I'd still start White in that case. Thanks, Keith.
Jim (Detroit, MI)
Who sits: Jacobs, Forte, Fitzerald, or Marshall?
Keith Lipscomb (3:54 PM)
It's pretty hard to sit those backs after their impressive openers and guaranteed opportunities to score points for you. Jacobs is a must-play against the Rams in my mind, and I like Fitzgerald against the Dolphins. Forte and Marshall is very close for me, so I'll flip a coin ... Forte wins. It's that close for me.
Bubba (Upland, Ca)
Winslow or Holt at WR/TE in a PPR League?
Keith Lipscomb (3:57 PM)
I expect Holt to bounce back from that rough Week 1 and he's obviously got the higher upside for this week, but Winslow's the safer option. Another tough one...I'll go with Winslow since Anderson will have to throw quickly and short this week.
Chris-CT
Michael Turner!! I have heard a lot of fantasy experts saying to trade Turner while his value is high...do you agree? Couldn't he be a solid top 10 back all year?
Keith Lipscomb (3:58 PM)
He could be. It's possible. I said during the preseason that Turner will have some really big games this year, because he's explosive like that, but on that team, which could struggle at times, they may be forced to throw a lot, which could mean a few stinkers thrown in there. I don't think you trade him, though, unless you get an offer you can't refuse. Those big games like last week win games for you.
Dave - Orlando
Keith, having a QB conundrum...Derek Anderson feels like the no-brain start for me over Matt Cassel, but I keep forecasting the Steelers running game dominating and keeping the Browns off the field for the majority of the game...while I am thinking the Jets-Pats game will be close and Cassel will be forced to air it out to the big time playmakers...thoughts? Who do you start? Thanks!
Keith Lipscomb (4:00 PM)
We actually did a segment on TV today discussing Anderson and I don't really like him this week. Sure, he may get to throw a lot, but that doesn't mean he'll be productive. Meanwhile, Cassel still has Moss, Welker, etc. to throw to. I like Cassel more than Anderson this week.
Keith Lipscomb (4:01 PM)
Wow, you people really filled the inbox this week! I have to get back to work, but thanks for all the questions. Sorry if you keep getting shut out, but I'm doing my best. Good luck in your games this week!
