Amy Nelson (9:39 AM)
Hi Guys,] We'll be starting the chat in about 20 minutes. Send in your thoughts about Merriman's season-ending surgery and the Chargers thoughts about that. We'll be talking Vince Young, the Rays and anything else you want Skip Bayless and Rob Parker to know.
Amy Nelson (10:01 AM)
Ok guys we're ready to started ...
Jeremey (Louisville, KY.)
I'm glad Merriman changed his mind.I would hate too see him go out like that.
Amy Nelson (10:02 AM)
I'm guessing he tried to play on it and then realized he couldn't.
Kenny ( Philly )
I wonder if Deion and Chris Collinsworth are celebrating Merriman's injury like they did Brady's
Amy Nelson (10:03 AM)
What does that mean?
Dan (Pittsburgh, PA)
Merriman wasted about 8 months rehabing and now hes going to have the surgery...What an idiot.
Jeremey(Louisville, KY.)
Amy. Why didn't you tell me Carlos Quinten injury was that bad?
Amy Nelson (10:05 AM)
Because it wasn't as of last Wednesday...
Paul (Indianapolis, IN)
First Ricky Williams then Shawn Andrews now Vince Young. Why doesn't the NFL have a better psychological evaluation at the combine?
Kenny ( Philly )
Deion and Chris Collinsworth on Sunday seemed like overjoyed/happy at Brady's injury. Very unprofessional, you wouldn't expect that reaction especially from ex players.
Amy Nelson (10:05 AM)
Well I didn't see it so can't comment on that, but I'd be shocked if they were acting happy.
Jeremey(Louisville, KY.)
Merriman probably didn't have any explosiveness and knew it wasn't worth it.
Jason (Lancaster, PA)
Vince Young has been booed before in TEN, why would this game have pushed him over the edge? I find it hard to believe any of this is credible except that Vince might need a "mental health day." No one makes it as a starting NFL QB, even for the short amount of time he's been one, without being mentally tougher than this, right?
Matt (South Bend, IN)
Makes you wonder Amy...that if Vince Young can't handle being booed by fans...what else is there in his normal that he can't handle?
Amy Nelson (10:06 AM)
Well do we really know what he can't handle? Is there more to this?
Monty(DC)
Vince Young is in the same shoes as Kwame Brown. Both had high expectations coming into the pro level and are failing. Confidence is the most important thing in sports and the fans who boo at them are not helping.
Paul (Indianapolis, IN)
After the most recent emotional problems with Vince Young shouldn't the NFL institute a policy to give psychological help to players who need therapy? You invest millions in these guys, whats another 80 bucks an hour, 3 hours a week?
Josh (Texas)
And to think Jay Cutler is having the better career than Matt Leniart and Vince Young.
Jeremey(Louisville, KY.)
Amy. You see why I say so called fans shouldn't boo there players and teams, they have Vince Young ready to quit.
Amy Nelson (10:08 AM)
See that's the thing is it really the fans' fault?
Montana (Estero, FL)
Vince Young did make a few bad throws, but ever since he has been in the league he plays the game ugly but he wins. Last week he played ugly and he beat a very strong team in JAX. If you are a Titans fan it is just something you have to deal with it.
Avery (Boston, MA)
I believe that the orgainization is putting to much on Vince Young to be like Steve Mcnair, so like alot of other QB's to follow legends its hard and he just needs a bit more time to adjust.
Matt (South Bend, IN)
Isn't being booed by fans a basic part of being a professional athlete?
Lester (Louisville, KY)
why does everyone think this about Vince Young. Why not have him speak about it before assuming these things?
Amy Nelson (10:10 AM)
That's the danger.
Jason (Lancaster, PA)
I agree there HAS to be something else going on for him to be having mental health problems. I don't think we deserve to know what "it" is, so everybody needs to back off and let the kid play football, if he's up for it.
Avery (BOSTON)
I dont know why merriman started playing in the first place, him doing that wasnt brave it was stupid because if he loves the game enough to want to play through a injury then he should realize that he would have got hurt more his 3 year career would have been over.
bradley (atlanta, ga)
I'll tell you who is happy about Brady's injury and thats everyone who is sick of every patriots fans holier than thou attitude. As a falcons fan I am relishing the fact that Brady is out and their conference has a few good teams in it.
Brad Harrisburg, PA
If they are making 5 millions dollars a year, they should be able to handle fans booing them.
Tim Iowa
Right Paul. Lets pay them millions of dollars and then pay for the help when their poor little egos get bruised
Chris (East Lansing)
Fans booing their own team has never made sense to me. Especially in this world of free agency. You think you boo your best player and that will make them play harder for you? NO. It will make them not want to be there anymore, and in one or two years when there contract is up, they will leave. If you boo your team, especially on WEEK 1, you aren't a true fan, you're a spoiled leech.
Brian G, Philadelphia
Hey from Paul (Indianapolis, IN, I can answer that. As a recent graduate student in psychology, I can say it's because of the actual tests being administered and the lack of experianced psychologists to interpret the data, and potentially modify current measures.
Chris (East Lansing)
This isn't the fans fault, fans booing can't make a guy lose his mental swagger, as perhaps Vince Young is, but booing fans is something to look at in general. What is the motivation behind it? What is the reasoning?
Josh (Texas)
I wonder who FINALLY talked some sense into Merriman. 4 doctors told him he needed surgery and he could have had it in February but he didn't want to.
Tom Brady
Amy, in case you hadn't heard I'm not going to be busy for awhile. Do you need help with the chat?
Amy Nelson (10:14 AM)
Tom, Thanks for the support. You want this gig now? Can I get access to Gisele's closet for a week if you have this? Thanks.
Matt (South Bend, IN)
The NFL Soap Opera is drawing high ratings, first Young...now Merriman...the suspense is killing me Amy! HELP!
Ak (High Ridge,MO)
I don't see any other player in any other sports that get booed having breakdowns...tell Vince to play for the Yankees or Phillies and have a couple bad days...with all that money comes a lot of baggage and the Titans should have figured this out during all the draft research they do when they are picking a player...especially a player and quarterback picked high in the first round becuase they are going to be counted on for so much.
Cody Charlotte, NC
I think that vince Young was just thrown into the fire too quickly, there is just too much pressure on him. I think its time to sit him a bit and let him learn how to be a real quarterback
Karen (RI)
Bradley, I am a Pats fan and I do not have a holier than thou attitude. The NFL is so competitive that you have to relish when your team is doing well, because the next season they can be 7 - 9. Just like the Patriots. You have to be happy when your team is winning because it usually doesn't happen for very long.
Avery (Boston, MA)
Wow amy, I have to say I have to agree with skip on the merriman topic he could have gotten the surgery after the season and on sunday he clearly hurt his team by being on the field, but chargers will have a player fill in for him and chargers will have a clear shot at the super bowl.
Rev in Gr MI
Not sure if Vince Young's story should be reported now. Won't any press add to his problems?
Amy Nelson (10:17 AM)
Dont think he really has a choice in the matter. This obviously has to be reported on because it looks like the TItans might not have their starting qb
Chris (Philadelphia)
Vince has been in the league for what is it his 3rd or 4th year now...its time for him to step up and handle the pressure
Ak (High Ridge,MO)
Agreed on that Merriman isn't brave or trying to stick it out for the team...he is a football player not a doctor and he had 4 doctors tell him what it took him a half of football to find out...again why did he not have the surgery when the chargers wanted him to? he must have had a busy summer planned...not very reliable team player if you ask me and he is trying to come off as one.
Flye( Dallas)
Amy, Let's not blame everything on Vince. The Titans need to take some of the blame for not putting any offensive help around him. The front office is to blame.
Garry L Ann Arbor
We're missing the point. Many of this players have been spoiled, told they are superior since they could read. They want the glory, the success but most of all the money. Failure comes hard for them. We need to change the system that fosters their overblown egos and rein in the salary contracts and make them accountable like the normal people that earn money
Amy Nelson (10:18 AM)
never gonna happen.
Mike, Ohio
Too much pressure on him?? He played in the spotlight at Texas and practically won the national title game by himself. Too much pressure? That sounds like a whole lot of excuses. Maybe, just maybe, Mr. Young isn't that good.
Matt (boston)
Vince young is just going through a rough time right now. When a guy has a gun in his car, give him a break about his football skills, and whether or not he can lead the titans. Get his emotions straight.
Amy Nelson (10:19 AM)
Anyone see that Rays/Red Sox game last night?
bradley (atlanta, ga)
Karen, you must be one of the few. On the level of irritating fans it goes 1. Red Sox fans. 2 Patriots fans 3. Yankees fans.
Jeremey(Louisville, KY.)
Vince is grown and has his mother speaking for him. He has bottomed out.
Ryan (MPLS)
Amy mark this down as a first... I agree with Skip on the Vince Young issue. How can he be considered done as an NFL quarterback when he hasn't had a viable receiving option his entire career. He made the playoffs last year pretty much on his own. He will never be an elite quarterback, but he will have a lot of NFL success.
Pat (NYC)
Whats with all the football talk!? September baseball...Carlos Delgado should be called Lazarus!
Chris (Philadelphia)
If an athlete tears TWO ligaments in his knee in a sport where you are constantly getting hit I would hope that you don't need a doctor to tell you that you can't play...this just shows Merriman's stubborness
Chris (Philadelphia)
Amy, baseball takes a backseat to football no matter what the situation is. Everyone was waiting for this season to start and there is so much going on in the NFL right now to be talking baseball.
Brian G, Philly
Chargers? Super Bowl? They have been the sexy pick for how many years now? Not only is Merriman out, I am not sold on Rivers (nor do I think he is healthy). They have Norv Turner. Did you see that mans face on the last few plays of the game, even before the TD? He KNEW they were going to lose, he looked terrified. Norv may be the main reason as to why they will not even play in the Super Bowl.
Boston Fans
bradley (atlanta, ga) at least we show up at games
Brian G, Philly
Ryan - Just look at the Eagles. They have one of the highest winning percentages over the last 10 years or so, and have never had a WR (aside from Team Obliterator)
Matt (Boston)
I agree with Rob here, rays won't win the division.
victor monroe,la
amy Baseball is number one and chris better remember that next time.
Jon (PA)
Wrong Wrong Wrong Wrong. By a huge huge huge huge margin, the yankee fan is the most irritating
Jeremey(Louisville, KY.)
Amy. Are you aware of what Jessica Simpson said now?
Monty (DC)
Jessica Simpson should keep her mouth shut. Every Eagles fan in the crowd will have her face on a stick and distract Tony Romeo. When the Eagles win TO and the team will call out Romo and we will all see the Cowboys break down.
Amy Nelson (10:27 AM)
What did she say?
Matt (Boston)
Amy, Does delgado have a chance at the NL MVP?
Amy Nelson (10:28 AM)
Yes, absolutely if he keeps hittign this way.
Ak (High Ridge,MO)
Just because the media pumps football down everyone's throat all year and all off season, that doesn't mean that is what everyone wants to hear about and talk about all the time...
Flemming (Copenhagen, Denmark)
Props to Delgado, but he isn't close to Phat Albert. If anyone but Pujols is awarded the MVP, the BBWAA should be abolished.....
Matty T. (Haverhill, MA)
As a Sox fan, I don't think the Rays can hang on. This is the first series that hasn't been a home sweep, but I don't think the likes of Dan Johnson can carry them the rest of the way. Plus, I'd really like to see an Angels-Rays dvisional playoff.
Jeremey(Louisville, KY.)
She said that the "Cowboys were going to kick the Eagles butt" bullentin board material.
Tom Brady (Boston)
I'm not really hurt. I am starting a new streak being on the injury report. Bill says this isn't cheating
Paul (Indianapolis, IN)
A serious warning to Romo, stay away from Jessica!! She ruined her marriage, reality tv career, singing career, and acting career. She now has her sights on you, RUN!!!
Ken Cleveland
Amy, Do you think Cliff Lee is a lock for the Cy Young?
Amy Nelson (10:31 AM)
As close to it as you can possibly get...
bradley (atlanta, ga)
Romo, yeah cut her loose and then send her down to the ATL. I'm ready for her to ruin my life and career
Beaumont, Tx
What is up with the mental instability and bizarre behavior of Univ. of Tx football players like Ricky Williams, Cedric Benson, and now Vince Young?
Zach (Chicago)
Does the return of Zambrano and Harden help the Cubs get back on track?
Amy Nelson (10:34 AM)
Of course it does, as long as both are healthy. Crazy to think what that team is like without both of them.
Erick Tampa Florida
I wonder what would have happened had Chad completed his last pass and the jets had lost the game... Do you think the media would be praising Brett's game as much as they have? I THINK NOT !!
Leonard (Colorado Springs)
It is kinda sad to see The Rays fall short of winning the division.
Amy Nelson (10:34 AM)
Leonard, They're still in the lead...
Matt (Boston)
I say the astros have a better chance of getting a playoff spot. But I would love to see the sox win the east, and the blue jays overtake the rays for the wild card.
Matt (boston)
Did I see bay get a standing ovation/curtain call, only to have dan freaking johnson spoil it? Yes....I saw it.
Brian G, Philadelphia
Merriman is ridiculous. How much more blatant could the doctors be? This outcome was inevitable, and good thing it happened this early in the season. He may be able to salvage something next year. The intriguing factor in this is why would he tempt fate like this? It makes me think that this injury is not only serious at the moment, but will be lingering and potentially career threatening. Someone with such a serious injury would have had to have a pretty big reason to play one-legged. Since football has yet to institute a retirement plan, players get cut due to injury all the time. Perhaps he was motivated to secure one more monster paycheck before a career of mediocrity, or worse, would begin.
Monty (DC)
Merriman not playing is the best thing to happen to the Chargers. It is better to have someone in there at 100% than a Merriman who would have been lights off.
Chris (Philadelphia)
So with Brady out and Peyton not 100% who is going to be the AFC champ? I'll put my money on the J-E-T-S.
Brandon (MN)
I really hope the astros can make the playoffs like the twins in 06 I know what the fans are going through and its great.
ian (macon, ga )
the rays are not that good a hitting team , why wont they go get barry bonds so as to boost their chances . it wont be ok to make the playoffs . the rays need to focus on winning a world series
Greg (Warren, OH)
As hard as it is for me to say this as a Michigan fan, (Go Blue, Dana J) this will finally be the big game that Ohio State wins. They are due, its that simple! However, they will once again show their true colors and fall in the national championship game to Georgia when its all said and done!
Zak (St. Petersburg)
Why does everybody appear to be rooting against the Rays?!
Adam Griffith (Tampa, FL)
The Astros are this years Colorado Rockies of last year
Darren, Florida
amy what are the rays waiting for david price should be on that roster getting ready for post season he could have the impact that krod had on the angels in 02
Amy Nelson (10:37 AM)
he's still pitching for the triple-a team, and the front office is worried about annointing Price the savior.
Mike (Texas)
I am sick of this Vince Young story. If I was at that game I would have shut up anyone booing VY around me. The man is hurt, let him recover.
Ricky (New Hampshire
I have alot of respect for Skip, for not jumping on the "Booh Vince Young" bandwagon. Since when has a 3rd year quarterback not been able to have an off game. Let the man go through what he needs to go through, and get to the other side. I mean, We hear things all the time like "No one's perfect", yet when people spend 300$ at a football game, we tend to resort to behaving like children. Vince Young will be fine, and will win a Super Bowl before it's all said and done!.
Zak (St. Petersburg)
Amy, do you know what Price's #s are in Triple A?
Amy Nelson (10:39 AM)
12-1 2.30 ERA in 3 levels
geoff (Springfield)
everyone needs to back off vince, skip is 100% right...he led the titans into the playoffs and lets be serious, who would rather have kerry collins or vince young?
Adam, Northford, CT
The problem is Vince Young isn't progressing he is regressing. His last season was atrocious and it doesn't look any better this year. The Titans can't cover him up forever, they are winning in spite of him.
Alex (Secaucus, NJ)
yea to throw a talent and no 1 overall pick into the fire like that they think is a big risk, theyd rather bring him up early next season
Amy Nelson (10:40 AM)
he'll be called up but not until durham's season is over.
Adam Griffith (Tampa, FL)
Price is nasty right Amy? It's a wrap when he comes up
Amy Nelson (10:40 AM)
nasty, but he still has to get big leaguers out
Amy Nelson (10:42 AM)
I think it's sad if indeed Vince Young has mental issues. It's a shame he has to be diagnosed this way. THat's why the Titans should do a better job of protecting him.
Matt (Boston)
Agreed about the UT comment. Seems like every player that comes from there is a headcase.
Matt (Atl)
Vince has been babied forever. He can't hack it in the Pro's.
pete (saratoga ny)
Yankees are making there move, watch out wild card hopefuls
Amy Nelson (10:43 AM)
yeah right!
ian (macon, ga )
i loved the last TO td celebration , what can do for monday night ...............referees stay tuned .
Amy Nelson (10:43 AM)
i was in phillies clubhouse when jimmy rollins saw that and he loved it. i thought it was great...
Jared (TX)
Is Jessica Simpson trying to jynx us. I don't think it will really matter remember the first Eagles vs. Cowboys game last year...... DOMINATION!!!!
Paul (Indianapolis, IN)
Vince Young;s biggest problem is through out his life he was the best athlete on the field. Now he is in the Pros where everyone is a great athlete and he is struggling. He went from everyone worshiping him to expecting greatness from him. He just can't handle the criticism he is receiving for the first time in his life.
Dan (Pittsburgh)
Vince Young will still always be remembered by his rose bowl performance...Might be the best single game performance I've ever seen by a college athlete.
Mike (Texas)
Vince just needs a new team, the Titans don't have any weapons for him to pass to. Everyone should blame their draft board instead of VY, it's not his fault they are incompetent. They easily could have traded up to draft Limas Sweed, but instead they let Pittsburgh take him to ride their bench!
Chris (Philadelphia)
Well ok from now on When Vince Young or any young QB who makes a mistake instead of booing we should all just say there there it will be ok i'm sure you'll do better next time.
James (Boston, MA)
Amy can you tell me why the game this weekend between USC and Ohio St. is getting so much hype, these two teams basically have cake walks to the national championship this year and if either one of them was in the SEC the will get wiped out of the public eye. Amy what is your take on that and can you get Jays for me also.
Amy Nelson (10:45 AM)
i hope SC beats the tar out of osu...
ian (macon, ga )
Jessica Simpson thanks for the lockroom motivation for the eagles , now i know monday night game is going to be real good .
Brian G, Philadelphia
I agree, the Vince Young issue is certainly sad. The main word when treating a mental health issue is confidentiality. The way this was handled is a joke, and shines a light on the fact that the league is ill equipped to handle such issues.
Kelly (Detroit,MI)
I think everyone is overreacting to Vince Young Leaving His cell Phone at home. If a man needs some time to himself, why bother him?
Amy Nelson (10:46 AM)
because the family is not calling the titans unless they believe something is truly wrong.
Thomas(Naperville,IL)
I'm a vikings fan, I want to know Amy why is the lambeau leap never penalized? the excuse from the nfl a few years back was that td celbrations were delaying the game, but t.o.'s sprinter td dance took 5 seconds while aaron rodgers lambeau leap took close to 14 seconds, tell me, who is more of a delay of the game?
Amy Nelson (10:47 AM)
no idea. but i can't see them ever banning that.
Wade (Delaware)
Excuses are what I am hearing about Vince Young. Maybe pro football is not his calling. Amy don't blame the titans, because a good many teams would have reacted similarly
ken (cleveland, ohio)
Ohio State is not due, They have the 2nd best program in recent years going up against the best. They got fat and happy during the hiatus betwwen the Michigan game and there humiliating loss to Flordia. Last season ws a REBUILDING year and lost bad to the most talented team last year. If they run the table this year they will be favored agains who ever they play in the national championship
josh ((knoxville, tn))
Amy, we know there is no tar in the Buckeyes, they are filled with creme and feathers.
Mark (Bham, AL)
If the Eagles need to look to Jessica Simpson for motivation, they have HUGE issues.
Brian (Maryland)
i never though Young would be a good qb because of his throwing delivery...he doesn't have a strong arm like other qb's in the league
Chris (Philadelphia)
This is not the time for alone time with Vince. He had all summer to be alone if he wanted. Can you just get up from your desk at work, leave, and not tell anyone where you are going or when you'll be back without some sort of consequence.
Matt (Boston)
Because, the lambeua leap is for the fans just as much as the player. While TO does celebrations for himself. Same with chad.
bradley (atlanta, ga)
enough vince young! did you see matt ryan? falcons playoff bound this year and mike turner nfl rushing leader
Mark (nj)
They penalize T.O. because hes an idiot.
Chad (Savannah, GA)
Kelly, it is called an investment. If you had Millions of dollars worth of stock in 1 company and your broker went off the grid and you couldn't find him you'd be worried too.
Craig (ohio)
Amy, No one went for Barry Bonds in the regular season, who in your mind missed a great oppurtunity and will ultimatly pay the price with no post-season? Anyone going to take a stab at Bonds for a post-season run?
Amy Nelson (10:50 AM)
no way. not ever.
Paul (Indianapolis, IN)
USC will win by 3 touchdowns. I love the Big Ten but there is a reason why Ohio State has lost the last 2 National Championship games by faster better teams.
Josh (Texas)
Is it me or is all the defending of about Vince Young sound exactly like what the Micheal Vick defenders were saying years ago. I'm surprised that Skip didn't bash Vice Young like he did Vick.
Amy Nelson (10:50 AM)
Josh, THat makes no sense whatsoever. You can't compare someone's mental health issues to another's legal issues..
Mike (Nashville)
Don't blame the lack of receivers on the Titans. Kerry Collins seems to be able to throw to them. VY is melting down before out eyes. Its sad, but its his inability to deal with failure and learn from his mistakes that's holding him back. I hope he gets his head straight, but for now this is Kerry Collins' team.
Zak (St. Petersburg)
Why won't the NCAA and the NFL allow minor celebrations?! As long as it's not intended to insult another player on the field, it should be fine! Just look at what Eddie Royal did to Deangelo Hall on Monday. That's more embarrassing than getting in a sprinter's stance or flipping the ball into the air.
Paul (Indianapolis, IN)
The Eagles and Cowboys both played sad teams this past weekend. The Eagles with their exotic blitz package will rattle Tony Romeos cage and he will throw a costly interception trying to be the new Bret Farve
geoff (springfield)
the titans better off without young? excuse me if im wrong but didnt vince young and the titans just beat the jaguars, who a lot of poeple had playing in the super bowl
Tom (Va)
Amy I am confused. Why do people persist to hang on to the notion that Barry Bonds needs to be back in baseball to make the MLB whole again. Bonds brought it on himself. Yes I feel better now
Adam Griffith (Tampa, FL)
Before it's all said and done the Titans will be in the AFC Championship game and you guys won't be talking about VY
Chris (East Lansing)
Don't sell the farm to buy the Falcons quite yet. They did those things against The Detroit Lions...who got rid of (albeit for decent reasons) Shaun Rogers who might have had some words for Michael Turner and Jerious Norwood on the field that day.
Jeff Fisher (TN.)
Vince get over it your a grown man for god sakes!
Amy Nelson (10:53 AM)
is that what you said to him the other day on the sideline?
Steve San Antonio
For those that watch USC/OSU, here's something to watch for... Mark Sanchez better make sure he saw every angle of the hit to Tom Brady. With a bad knee, you too could be in the same predicament as him
Zak (St. Petersburg)
I think Josh meant "years ago" when Vick was a running QB with a hell of an arm, but no receivers and who can hardly read the defenses he faced in college. Vince Young is DONE!
Josh (Texas)
Amy I'm talking about on the fleid not the dog fighting. Skip used to bash Vick on the same things that Young is doing on the field now.
Amy Nelson (10:54 AM)
gotcha, that wasn't clear to me.
Pete...Las Vegas
I'm watching Skip and Rob...Does anyone realize that the giants are the reigning champs??? But as a lifelong fan this is good...When the giants get back to the super bowl this year, I am dying to hear the mea culpa's from skip et al.
Mike (Brooklyn)
Once and for all, can people realize that the Titans have an excellent defense? Bulluck, Vanden Bosch, Haynesworth, Griffin, Hope, Finnegan..that is damned good.
Jesse T, Harrisonburg
Skip and I both know the broncos are going to win the AFC West and not the overrated chargers.
Matt (Boston)
Amy, who is the funniest baseball player you have come across?
Amy Nelson (10:55 AM)
pedro is defintely up there.
Amy Nelson (10:55 AM)
adam dunn is hilarious, too.
Zak (St. Petersburg)
Amy, have a great day and a better week! I know the chat's almost over, but great one today!
Amy Nelson (10:56 AM)
Zak, Thanks but we're actually going for another hour.
Matt (South Bend, IN)
oh no not Drew Rosenhaus!!!
jon frankfort,ky
chase for the sprint cup talk? you hear bout the 18,99,and 48.. i say watch out for the 29 go harvick!!!!!!!!!
Dave (Janesville, Wis.)
Did Skip not have his diet mountian dew this morning? How can he even defend Vince. Vince gets paid alot of money to play football and he gets his feelings hurt because gets booed. Maybe he needs to get a real job like the rest of us and see how he likes it. Skip get more abuse then Vince ever has and you don't see him pouting on the set do you.
Amy Nelson (10:57 AM)
Dave, Nope never seen Skip pouting on the set.
Chris (East Lansing)
I wasn't aware people didn't give the Titans D respect. That's all ESPN talked about last year in terms of the Titans.
Ronnie (TAMPA,FL)
sit back and enjoy the matt cassel show in new england. PATS will go 13-3 and show the world that TEAMS win!
bradley (atlanta, ga)
i didnt even know they had computers in kentucky. get that guy out of here with that filthy nascar talk
Mike (Texas)
Vince will be fine, you nay-sayers will see.
Matt (Boston)
That TD celebration really was not that bad. He was paying tribute to usain bolt. It is not like he pulled out a prop or held up a sign saying I am the best.
Chris (East Lansing)
Must...destroy...Drew...Rosenhaus.......ruins....sports....and athletes...
Josh (Texas)
I agree with Drew Rosenhaus (can't believe it). The celebration rule has got to go. I love watch Aaron Rogers do the Leap but he didn't get flagged for it yet TO does get flagged? Double standards glore.
luke,philly
so amy what you think of the phils making it to the playoffs? i say offense is too off and on. as a fan in my heart i say yes but the mind says another thing. even though they almost pulled it out last night
Amy Nelson (11:00 AM)
i seriously thought that the mets were done after the first game of the DH. surprised me to see them pull that out. if delgado keeps it up then i say phils are out. brett myers has been great, but their offense is not as potent, it seems, as the mets can be.
Sir Varge, New York
C'mon Amy, how about some love for the Trojans? They are absolutely going to smack down Ohio State and it won't even be close. Take the Trojans minus 10.
Amy Nelson (11:02 AM)
already gave them love, my friend. pay attention!
Adam Griffith (Tampa, FL)
Cmon Ames Delgado is running away with the MVP check his stats after that 9 RBI game at Yankee Stadium
Zack ( Florida )
As a big football fan, I really hope Vince Young can return to his previous form. I know some people are already tagging him as a bust, but if vince can overcome the current injury and mental issues, then I see no reason why he couldnt be a star quarterback in the league. If I remember correctly, Michael Vick led his falcons to the NFC championship game, with a less than stellar passing game
Josh (Texas)
USC 24 Ohio St Bills 14. I'm being generous.
duece (Chicago)
Yo Amy. I think all this Jessica hysteria is waaaaayyyyyy overblown. She is just being a fan and supporting her dude. She may know little about football but doesnt she have the right to be interested and have and opinion? I dont understand how it puts pressure on Romo in any way. What do you think?
Amy Nelson (11:03 AM)
liek everything, i'm sure it's being overblown.
Mike (Brooklyn)
Amy - come on - you know better!! This Mets team is resilient under Jerry Manuel. Something they weren't under Randolph. They've bounced back numerous times from bad losses.
Amy Nelson (11:04 AM)
when billy wagner walked off the field with tears in his eyes, and they had just lost two straight to the phils, i thought no wya. perhaps this team is different than last year's.
Flemming (Copenhagen, Denmark)
Yes, that 9-RBI game absolutely clinched the MVP for Delgado. COME ON!!!!!!!!!
Efrain (Bayonne NJ)
I thought Vince Young was an average QB in college...did I miss something? He played well againts SC, but he wasn't all that great to begin with.
bradley (atlanta, ga)
as a big blue supporter i cannot take your opinion without a little bias ms. nelson
Roger (Asheville NC)
I did like the T.O. celebration, and was shocked about the penalty. I knew they had taken out props, but had somehow missed the premeditated celebrations rule. I love the NFL, but would like to see people able to celebrate, without being penalized. I do agree with not being able to use props, but no celebration at all takes a lot of the fun out of it.
Chris (East Lansing)
I find it interesting that people are willing to give Matt Leinart a handful of second chances, and even now are saying he could get it together, and Vince Young who has gotten it done has a moment of weakness, in a game they WON, and his career is over?
Josh (Texas)
What the heck? We got bumped off the main page.
Amy Nelson (11:05 AM)
wha??? that's just cold...
curt schilling boston
im just so happy that the evil empire is missing the playoffs!!!!!!! and to Mr. pappelbon dont blow another save, even with a messed up shoulder i could get the job done....
Chris (East Lansing)
Wow, that was some insane video from East Carolina. That's inexperience at it's worst right there. What good did those police officers really think they were going to do by beating down 5 out of thousands?
Amy Nelson (11:07 AM)
i dont know how that guy isn't fired...
bradley (atlanta, ga)
that security guard at the ecu game should take on chuck liddel.
Flemming (Copenhagen, Denmark)
Curt, go away.......
Brett Favre NY Jets
I guess you guys dont like me anymore? im still here playing and won sunday... where is the favre chat? come on gang
carlos florida
I think the rays will eventually lose the AL east to the Sox and will lose the wild card as well. Twins will win the wild card
Tea Bgginu (nyc)
Calros wake up rays & sox going to playoffs. Frve is a joke and so are the jets crash and burn they will.
James ( Morgantown WV )
If the guard at ECU would have done that in Morgantown, he would have been beat down, and rightfuly so I believe
Joe (Lexington, ky)
Billy, there's no crying in baseball!
Amy Nelson (11:19 AM)
that's not nice, is it?
Carlos florida
No choke job this year in Queens, Mets will win the division.
carlos florida
mets are better than the phillies they can do it without wagner. They've gotten this far without him!
Flemming (Copenhagen, Denmark)
Almost 90 mins. and no mention of Lance's comeback. You really don't care about cycling, huh?
Amy Nelson (11:23 AM)
no one has wrtiten in about it, so i suppose not many people care?
Red (Raleigh,NC)
Where is Carmello??
Amy Nelson (11:24 AM)
coming up right after this break.
Mike (Austin, TX)
Hey Amy. We all know the yankees aren't going to make the playoffs, but you didn't know that the Astros are going to make the playoffs!
Amy Nelson (11:24 AM)
we'll see i'm not sold.
Mark/nj
You should ask him if he eats Caramello the candy bar.
Amy Nelson (11:25 AM)
hmmmm
Brandon MN
Carlos, as a die hard twins fan are you serious. The rays arnt gonna choke like the mets. 7 game wild card lead with around 18 games left. Cmon Twins win AL Central and White Sox go home
ben (st. louis)
the united states really doesn't care about cycling. they liked the dominance of lance armstrong, and they will probably get quite fanatical with yellow everywhere when the tour is in full swing. i wish him well because cycling needs the help it can get even on an international scale what with all the cheating... americans need instantaneous feedback...like this... and association football, cycling, all the stuff that takes time, the us loses interest
Josh (Pittsburgh, PA)
Will the Pittsburgh Pirates EVER be good again?!?!
Amy Nelson (11:27 AM)
josh, might be awhile.
bradley (atlanta, ga)
amy, why dont you go jack melo for his medal. i'll help you fence it
Amy Nelson (11:27 AM)
bradley, thanks but ithink his security guard would swallow me whole...in one bite.
Chris (East Lansing)
Nice to see Carmello care about his gold medal.
Josh (Texas)
How is Dream Team vs Redeem Team a debate? There is no debate the Dream Team wins by 20 if these 2 teams played.
Steve Tampa, FL
When mello says they can beat the Dream team, remind him they couldnt even guard the gasol brothers. Who guards Ewing, Robinson, and Barkley? Tell him they would have been crushed, end of story.
Kelly (Jackson, MS)
Vince just needed some time to clear his head. We hold athletes to a higher standard and sometimes seem to forget that they are real people and not inanimate objects of our obsessions. He is a person and just needed to clear his head no more no less.
Chris (East Lansing)
It's not that Vince Young isn't able to learn from his mistakes, it's that he isn't afforded the opportunity to make those mistakes. He set the bar too high coming in and making this team a contender his first year. On a team with low expectations, he can make mistakes, think about them, and learn from them. On a team that is playoffs or bust, he doesn't have an honest chance to learn. His curve was much greater than some other QB's he came out with.
Amy Nelson (11:29 AM)
melo says he'd guard karl malone, he thinks. doesn't know how he'd do...
mike p boston
i can't understand how an olympic gold is better than a NBA championship?
Josh (Texas)
Melo will be a bloody nose if he guarded the Mailman. One elbow will knock him out.
Logan (Wilmington, NC)
I am going to have a very hard time convincing myself I'm not dream when I watch the baseball playoffs this year. Brewers and Rays but no Yanks or Braves?
Amy Nelson (11:32 AM)
a few writers were joking this weekend that selig will soon issue 10 wins to the yankees, just because, since mlb so badly needs them in the playoffs for ratings.
Chris (East Lansing)
I'm on the other side of the Dream v. Redeem team debate. I think it's very close. The game has changed, and has sped up quite a bit in 16 years. Dream Team players are definitely all living legends, but I'm not sure they necessarily win that game.
Joe (Lexington, ky)
Ben, I would rather watch cycling than Nascar! At least in cycling there is some athletic ability involved with a tremendous amount of training.
New Orleans, La.
Why No love for Knowshon? This kid hurdles over a almost 6-foot tall defender effortlessly on a 29yrd run after a cut back. Yet it is not even mentioned on sports center, the top10, first take and PTI. Will Jim Rome Burn on this? Come on Skip say something.
Red (Raleigh,NC)
Carmello bumped his head i like the reedeem team but the dream team cant be compared i know he dosent really think they could beat them granted they do got better overall players on the Reedeem team jst cant see em beating the dream team Carmello is a good guy though he is loved thru out the inner city and suburbs and does alot of community work a ral stand up guy
Josh (Teaxs)
I like the fact that Melo said that the gold medal is better. It shows that they're not in it for the money (don't know how much they're getting paid), they're in it for their country.
Matt
To mike p: if he said an Olympic Gold is better than an NBA title, then he realizes that he's never going to play for an NBA title
Jeremey(Louisville, KY.)
Matt Cassell, Matt Ryan the Patriots and the Falcons will finish with the same record this season.
Dwalu Virginia
The Redeem Team would destroy the Dream Team. When you compared the stats both teams, they are not that much different. You talk about the Redeem team three point shooting, when the Dream Team shot less the three percent better than the Redeem Team, and saying that today's international competition is 5 times better then what the Dream Team faced would be an understatement. So the facts don't lie, therefor the dream Team would get ran out the gym by the Redeem Team.
bradley (atlanta, ga)
Yeah, how come there is no mention of UGA football? the bulldogs cant get any love?
Jeremey(Louisville, KY.)
The Patriots opponents will double Randy Moss and Cassell won't have a bail out, and Randy will revert back to his Raiders days.
Josh (Pittsburgh, PA)
The pats made the right choice by sticking with Matt Cassel. His players have to trust him and play just like #12 is out there
Joe (Lexington, ky)
Bradley. Can't wait till you all make it up here this year. That's the game I am looking forward to the most this year!
Josh (Texas)
Falcons are getting double digit wins Jeremey? I didn't know that the Falcons had such an easy schedule.
Chris (East Lansing)
Georgia will get plenty of time when the thick of the SEC schedule starts. Right after they lose to LSU and Florida back-to-back.
Red (Raleigh,NC)
Matt Cassell will be 10-6 at best and 8-8 at worst icluding the week 15 upset by my raiders..theyll split with the jets though..prolly shoulda stuck 2 baseball
Matt Cassel
It's Cassel, people. C-a-s-s-e-l.
Logan (Wilmington, NC)
cassel is has to be rethinking choosing football over baseball knowing his first career start will be against brett farve
Josh (Pittsburgh, PA)
Is Lance Armstrong the favorite to win the Tour de France in 09?
Amy Nelson (11:43 AM)
not sure, but i'm sure many peopke will assume because majority of people dont know who the other riders are.
Drew Bledsoe
Hey I can still play. Im the real patriots quarterback. I made tom the player he is today without me the patriots have zero vince lombardi trophies.
Amy Nelson (11:45 AM)
Drew, What's up? Where ya been?
Chris (East Lansing)
I think Red is right on Cassell's best, but his worst could be much worse than 8-8. I see 10 games on that schedule they could lose.
Hamburg,Ny
patriots will still be a good team,I think, but we'll see.and we'll see about the chargers.how do you think the chargers will fair without merriman Amy?
Amy Nelson (11:45 AM)
think they'll be OK. they're still in it.
Matt
Hey Drew, you'd still have a job somewhere if you weren't like a statue in the pocket!
Chris (East Lansing)
Let's have a throwback year! Vikings-sign Culpepper. Patriots-Sign Bledsoe. Titans-sign McNair. Heck, Steve Young still looks pretty good Niners!
Amy Nelson (11:48 AM)
how bout scott zolak?
Michael Turner (the dirty south)
I guess the fact i ran for 220 in week one really isn't impressive? I mean there were only 3 games last year with a 200 yard rusher and Adrian Peterson had two of them. I'll just keep grinding and getting my ground game on.
Ryan Leaf
Sweet, that means I get another job! Woohoo!! Run an out for me Amy..here it comes... *throws ball 10 yards in the other direction* Yep, I still got it!
Randy Moss
Drew stay retired because I would never be able to catch the deep ball from you because you are the greek god of getting sacked.
Nick (Hamburg,Ny)
I think so too.chargers and patriots will still be good.it will be interesting to watch, for sure
Doug Flutie
The City of Boston loves me and I will find a way to get the job done.
Monty (DC)
Lance Armstrong coming back means as much if Mark Spitz comes back to swimming some how. Cycling is as exciting as watching the Pirates.
bradley (atlanta, ga)
Mr. Turner, you are the truf! People wont even be talking about LT this year, just MT.
Chris (East Lansing)
Hey Turner the Burner, Varsity players don't brag when they beat up on the JV team. Don't forget that your fellow RB also broke 100. Coincidence?
bradley (atlanta, ga)
since there is no more wire lets talk about how aaron spelling his rolling over in his grave with this 90210 atrocity.
Amy Nelson (11:53 AM)
good point, bradley. think i'm gonna have to wrap it up from there. Mad Men is now the new obsession. Get on it...thanks everyone for writing in and I'll be back next Wednesday.
