Keith Lipscomb (3:01 PM)
Hey everyone. Football season goes so fast. Here we are in Week 3 already. Let's get to your questions!
Nathan (Lancaster)
Sorry to be so specific, but I'm interested in your take. Half-PPR league: Warner (can be kept at the expense of a 23rd round pick next year) and Harrison (5th round) for Megatron (5th round) and Pennington (16th round). I think the value this year couldl be close and Johnson will be a huge steal in the 5th round next year, but if Warner starts next year he'll be a steal as well. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Keith Lipscomb (3:04 PM)
Hi Nathan. It is an interesting question, because if you could guarantee me that Warner would be a starter in Arizona (and still upright) next season, I wouldn't do the deal at all. I'm about winning this year and worrying about next year later. So, with that being said, I would stick with Warner/Harrison, because Pennington is not going to be worth starting at all this season and therefore, you've traded two starters (including a QB) for one, albeit one with great upside.
Jared (Portland)
I think I made fantasy history today when I traded a kicker for a kicker.
Keith Lipscomb (3:05 PM)
I hope you maximized value, Jared. Congrats on making history!
Dan (New York)
Hi Keith!.....I traded Holt and Bowe for Moss.....I now have Moss, T.O., and Boldin....good trade? Some people in my league want to veto it. Thanks!
Keith Lipscomb (3:07 PM)
Well, I don't think that trade is worthy of veto at all, because you traded away two solid WRs, albeit guys who are either off to a slow start (Holt) or one whose QB is an unknown quantity (Bowe). You should be solid every week except for byes. But that guy may have needed some WR depth, so I can see why he'd at least consider it. I still like what you got, though.
Mo - Dallas
Is Chris Johnson worth starting over Willie Parker this week? Also, I am considering starting Royal, Marshall and Scheffler (on the same team). Does that ever work out?
Keith Lipscomb (3:09 PM)
It's hard to go away from Parker right now. He's third in the league in rushing yards. I would stick with Parker, even knowing Johnson's big-play potential. And I'm not a huge fan of using 3 receivers from one team overall, because I always feel like I'm not maximizing my potential catches/yards. I don't see a problem with starting two, though (Marshall/Scheffler).
Chris-CT
Who is your top buy low candidate among RBs?
Keith Lipscomb (3:11 PM)
I know the Rams don't look very good, but remember who they've played so far: Philly and the Giants. Steven Jackson is still getting his touches, albeit behind a shaky line, but he's going to keep toting the rock.
Tovi (Santa Barbara, CA)
Keith, love the basketball draft kit. Are we going to have a fantasy basketball podcast this year? You should really do one.
Keith Lipscomb (3:12 PM)
Thanks for the post, Tovi. We're still working on the details right now, but feel free to check back with me sometime and I can give you the latest.
Rob (Chicago)
Keith, Pick two between Chris Johnson, W. Parker, or a banged up LT??
Keith Lipscomb (3:14 PM)
I'm not convinced LT's going to be in any better shape this week than he was last week, even with an extra day's rest, and while I don't normally go away from my studs, if we're still in the dark about his playing status on Sunday morning (which is quite possible since LT doesn't play until Monday), I'd rather start two guys who I know WILL go . And they are decent options, too.
Justin (Islip, NY)
Keith, What do we have to do to get you & Karabell your own podcast? you guys had great chemistry in the EA Madden podcasts & all this 90210 talk is killing me...Jamal Lewis vs Bal or Kevin Smith vs SF in ppr?
Keith Lipscomb (3:16 PM)
I appreciate the love, Justin. I'd go with Smith over Lewis, because the Browns are having trouble running and passing at this point, and I don't figure the Ravens to help them overcome that. At least San Fran's D is softer, so maybe Smith finds the end zone.
Goose (NY)
Keith, pick two please: Jamal Lewis, Dwayne Bowe, Roy Williams. Thanks
Keith Lipscomb (3:18 PM)
Roy Williams for sure, and I'll go with Lewis, because although the yards may be tough to come by, he'll still get his chances and maybe he can get you a short-yardage TD to boot. He scored in each game vs. Baltimore last season (albeit in an offense that was purring nicely). Bowe's situation with Tyler Thipgen at QB is concerning, until Thigpen shows us something.
Steve (Atlanta)
Palmer and Warner ... is this going to eventually be a matchups game or is Warner always my guy?
Keith Lipscomb (3:19 PM)
I still think it will be a matchups thing, Steve. Palmer's got great weapons, but that schedule just looks brutal, so it's nice you've got someone like Warner to go to. Next week might be the week to play Palmer (vs. CLE) ... Warner will get the Jets.
John (Indiana)
Keith, Who do you like this week..Rodgers or Mcnabb???
Keith Lipscomb (3:21 PM)
I like McNabb more. He's pretty steady and proven, even against a strong defense. He'll find ways to get his yardage and lead the team to scores. Rodgers also faces a solid D, so I'm going with experience and the safer bet here, in McNabb.
Tom (San Francisco, CA)
Too early to decide between mcfadden and m bush?
Keith Lipscomb (3:23 PM)
Yeah, because even if McFadden practices today, I'd like to see how his toe feels tomorrow. It's going to be a game-time thing, if I had to guess ... and even then, I don't really like Raiders' RB against the Bills. I expect the Bills to put 8 in the box regularly and make JaMarcus Russell try to beat them.
Ocho Cinco (Cincy)
Would you play A Gonzalez and Bryant Johnson over the incredible Ocho Cinco this week?
Keith Lipscomb (3:24 PM)
If Dallas Clark is back this week, which Tony Dungy said he expects will be the case, I think that impacts Gonzalez. And while Bryant Johnson is potentially a strong play against a lackluster Lions D, I have a hard time benching ol' 85 right now. If the Bengals get behind early, they'll had to throw, right? And if they get ahead, they'll have to throw, too.
Reed (Louisville)
Rough one here... Eli vs my poor Bengals, or Rodgers in primetime?
Keith Lipscomb (3:25 PM)
As tough as it may be for you, it's easy for me. I go with Eli.
Mark (San Diego)
Keith Brees or Warner???
Keith Lipscomb (3:26 PM)
I like Brees better this week, especially after watching the way Rivers tore them up last week.
John (Ma)
Should I bench Ryan Grant this week in favor of Sammy Morris? Thank you!
Keith Lipscomb (3:27 PM)
Sadly, I think I would. I have to make a similar decision this week in one of my leagues, and I'm worried about Grant's health and the matchup enough that even Morris getting 10 touches (and possible goal-line carries) against a decidedly lesser opponent makes me think Morris is the better option.
Toby (Pasco, WA)
Tough choice here. With Big Ben's shoulder aching should I bench him for Matt cassel?
Keith Lipscomb (3:29 PM)
That's always tough, benching your top-flight QB, but I think Cassel has a better chance of a 2-TD game than Big Ben does. I don't expect the Steelers-Eagles game to be the shootout MNF was.
Josh (Philly)
Is Trent Edwards going to be anything more than a matchups guy this year?
Keith Lipscomb (3:32 PM)
I don't see it. The Bills' bread is still going to be buttered by the run game and the defense, and while Edwards should be the type of QB who doesn't hurt you, I don't see him having many huge games.
Jon (KC)
Cotchery or Roy Williams this week?
Keith Lipscomb (3:35 PM)
I think both should have decent weeks, actually. Williams has been begging for the ball, and I'm sure Jon Kitna's listening. And Cotchery, who I still think will be Brett Favre's favorite target eventually, could have a nice MNF against a Chargers' pass defense that hasn't been very impressive. I'll go with Williams, but I like both.
Shane (Denver)
Keith...Do you think Rodgers will be throwing from behind the entire time and gain better stats than Romo? Or is it gonna be like the Monday night shootout?
Keith Lipscomb (3:36 PM)
It's hard to say how that game will go, but I think Romo should outperform Rodgers, statistically. I'm looking forward to watching, that's for sure.
Brian (Underachiving City, U.S.A.)
Which early season bum should I start this week, MJD against an injured Colt's D or Jamal Lewis against his former employer? Thanks
Keith Lipscomb (3:38 PM)
Well, I sure would like to see MJD get more touches. I know he's been banged up, but as long as he doesn't appear on the injury list on Sunday morning, he's a better play in terms of upside. He's had some good games against the Colts in the past, too. If he is good to go, I think the Jags try to control the clock and finally give him some carries.
Brad Childress
Will my wrs be worthy of a start with my excelent QB change??
Keith Lipscomb (3:39 PM)
Well, I'll say this ... I think at least now I'd CONSIDER starting Bernard Berrian. I still would like to see who Frerotte looks to this week before getting too excited, but there's no question I have more confidence in WRs actually catching balls now.
Thomas (WV)
Need help im 0-2!!! I am looking into doing some trading my question is Who do you think is going to rebound to have the best season out of M.Harrison and B.Edwards? Do you think trying to trade S.Young + Crayton for either is a feasible trade?
Keith Lipscomb (3:41 PM)
Hi Thomas...hope you turn things around, but I don't think trying Young and Crayton is enough to land either guy. I think Edwards is more likely to turn things around, but with Denver sharing carries (and with Young not getting goal-line touches) and Crayton still a distant third option in the passing game, you'll have to do better than that.
Vick (Pasadena)
Keith-mania! Which 3 do you like this week in a ppr league: R Moss, W Welker, H Ward, A Johnson.
Keith Lipscomb (3:43 PM)
I think I'd have to go with both Patriots and Johnson, because they have the greatest potential for big games. While it remains to be seen how Cassel uses his receivers, Welker got 11 of his 23 targets last week, so he's a definite. Moss is impossible to bench, though, so I'll go with Andre Johnson over Ward, since he has a greater chance for a huge game, even against a good defense like Tennessee's.
Brian, Boston
Keith, I need help bad. I'm in a QB2 league and I have Bulger and Pennington....who are some buy low guys out there I could get that would be an upgrade? I have WR and RB depth to use...Thanks!
Keith Lipscomb (3:46 PM)
Carson Palmer's the obvious choice, just because of how badly he's played, but he still has solid weapons to throw to. Matt Cassel could be buy-low, and if he has a big game this weekend, the price goes up. Also, Matt Hasselbeck, if he can stay healthy, could be nice to have come Week 5 when he expects to get both Bobby Engram and Deion Branch back.
Marcus: (Germantown, MD):
Keith, good stuff as always. Am I really starting JTO'Sully over Anderson and Schaub this week? REALLY?!?! How about Flash Johnson vs. Graham?
Keith Lipscomb (3:48 PM)
You know, I can't say I feel any more confident that D.A. or Schaub will outperform him fantasy-wise. You think Martz (and O'Sullivan) don't want to show what they can do against their previous employer? I guess I would go with JTO. And I like the big-play possibility that Johnson brings, more than the Bears defense against Graham, who is also sharing carries.
John (Chicago)
Anne Hathaway! 90210! Anne Hathaway! 90210! Anne Hathaway! 90210! Anne Hathaway! 90210! Anne Hathaway! 90210! Anne Hathaway! 90210! Sorry, I forgot this was a real chat. Forte or Chris Johnson this week and the rest of the year?
Keith Lipscomb (3:50 PM)
Johnson simply has a more favorable matchup this week, so I like him more. As far as the season goes, I think they are still matchup types in shallower leagues, although Forte should get more carries if they both stay healthy.
John (Seattle)
Who do you like better for the season, Norwood or Sammy Morris? I need to drop one of them.
Keith Lipscomb (3:51 PM)
I gotta go with Morris, because at least he seems to be the Pats' goal-line guy (at least right now, he is). Norwood's value will only increase if Turner goes down.
Keith Lipscomb (3:53 PM)
Oh, and by the way, I do know Turner's beat up, but if he only misses a game or has his carries limited, it's still unlikely Norwood scores as many TDs as Morris if things continue on the same path.
David Fairborn, OH
Carlson or Owen Daniels?
Keith Lipscomb (3:53 PM)
I think Carlson may be the better choice for this week, but I still like Daniels more for the season.
Joe (Philly)
PICK ME...PICK ME...PICK ME...Im dying at RB here!!! Any upside at all this season for Brown or Perry?
Keith Lipscomb (3:55 PM)
You got me, Joe! Depends on how you look at it, really. Perry is getting plenty of opportunity, but is running into tough defenses and will continue to do so. So, I think he'll get more chances than Brown. But Brown has more upside, because if his knee feels stronger as the season goes along, he could get his job back on a full-time basis and even on a bad team, could put up decent numbers if given the chance.
John, nyc
Would you call me crazy if I started Kurt Warner this week over Peyton Manning?
Keith Lipscomb (3:57 PM)
I'm not really into name-calling, John! :-) But I think the Colts will have much better success in the air than on the ground against the Jags. That has been the case in recent years as well. And the Skins' defense isn't all that bad, so I don't necessarily think Warner will light them up. I have a hard time going away from Peyton, at least in these matchups.
Aaron (Long Beach, CA)
Heap or Fassano?
Keith Lipscomb (4:00 PM)
I'm not sure which Fasano we'll get ... the 8-catch or the no-catch ... but I do know that the Browns have problems dealing with good pass-catching TEs. If Heap's ready to go on Sunday, and I suspect he will be, I feel safer with him this week.
Chester (Carson, CA)
Wayne or Boldin for the rest of season? ppr league.
Keith Lipscomb (4:01 PM)
I like Wayne more, because he's definitely Peyton's No. 1 guy, while Boldin is more like 1a. I expect Wayne to be more consistent than Boldin.
Keith Lipscomb (4:03 PM)
I was gonna call it quits, but let me grab one more ...
Kevin (Chicago)
Addai is killing me! Bench him for Forte? Time to give up hope?
Keith Lipscomb (4:05 PM)
Even though Addai has never scored a TD vs. Jacksonville, I don't think he puts up another stinker like last week. I don't expect a big game out of either Addai or Forte this week, so I'm sticking with Addai. And I definitely wouldn't give up hope. The Colts' bye comes in Week 4, which is perfect timing in getting a little healthier and making the proper adjustments. Hang with 'em.
Keith Lipscomb (4:06 PM)
OK, that's all I've got for today. Thanks for the great questions. You keep filling the box at an alarming rate! See you again next week.
