Chris Low (1:28 PM)
OK, I'm here now and ready to go. Big week in the SEC. A telling week, I would think.
JF (Atlanta, GA)
Chris, are my Auburn Tigers gonna make this a game against LSU on Saturday?
Chris Low (1:29 PM)
Can they score more than 10 points? Can they get to 10 points? LSU hasn't played anybody, so it's hard to tell a lot about them. I know they're outstanding on defense, as is Auburn. I think it's a close game, and with it being on the Plains, I always give Auburn a chance
Brad (Gadsden,Alabama)
Will the Alabama Arkansas game be close?
Chris Low (1:30 PM)
No, I don't think so. I just don't think the Hogs wil be able to protect Casey Dick against Bama.
Columbus GA
Chris, How would you rate Martinez and Bobo's schemes in the SC game and what advice would you offer them
Chris Low (1:32 PM)
I think they both go back to pressure. The Bulldogs didn't get enough pressure on South Carolina defensively and didn't handle the Gamecocks' pressure real well offensively. I said earlier that I think the Dogs really miss Brannan Southerland on offense and are still looking for that finisher on the edge defensively
Will J (Portland, OR)
Chris, I realize it's still early and meaningless, but I'm curious as to how on earth USC wasn't unanimous #1 pick? Georgia got 2 first place votes, Florida got 1.
Chris Low (1:33 PM)
Obviously, those people haven't seen Southern California play. Or maybe Uga voted this week in one of the polls.
Brett (Bloomington, IL)
Chris How big do you think Mimbs' 77 yard bomb in the UGA-SC game was? South Carolina had to believe they were going to get a short field to work with and the next thing you know they are starting at their own 11
Chris Low (1:34 PM)
Biggest play of the game, in my opinion. And then he comes back and nails a 51-yarder that is fair caught on the South Carolina 9.
Randy (New Orleans)
How many yards rushing will LSU get against a good Auburn D? Will Holliday return another punt for a TD?
Chris Low (1:35 PM)
I think Holliday can be the difference in this game. Both defenses are so good that a special teams play is likely to be what breaks the game open.
Greg, Cohutta GA
What are your thoughts on the Vols v. Gators game?
Chris Low (1:37 PM)
I haven't seen anything from Tennessee this season that would lead me to believe the Vols can beat the Gators. I mean, BYU's 59-0 drubbing of UCLA is a huge indictment against Tennessee.
Tyler (Baton Rouge, LA)
Chris, what's the deal with South Carolina and their constant struggle? Do you think Spurrier is burned out?
Chris Low (1:38 PM)
I think he's getting there. I just wonder deep down if he's realizing what he was told by some close to him before he took that job, which is that you can win there ... just not as big as Spurrier wants to win.
John Mark (Little Rock, AR)
Chris, any chance my Hogs get out of the next four weeks (Alabama, @ Texas, Florida, @ Auburn) with a win? Which one gives them the best opportunity?
Chris Low (1:40 PM)
What a nasty stretch. Extend it out further, and it looks even nastier. The Hogs have to play eight straight weeks. I would think Alabama might be their best shot, with Arkansas and Petrino getting an extra week to prepare. But Bama's defense is going to give the Hogs fits.
CC (Atlanta)
Can Vandy get to 6-7 wins?
Chris Low (1:41 PM)
Vandy has been one of the best stories in the league so far. What a well-prepared, disciplined football team that's playing with a lot of confidence. This Ole Miss game this Saturday may well be the swing game. If the Commodores win that one, I'm going on record and saying they're a lock for a bowl game.
Nate (Madison)
So why was Auburn and Ole Miss' baseball teams playing one another this past weekend?
Chris Low (1:42 PM)
Really and Will Clark usually comes through for the Bulldogs with runners on base in the ninth inning.
CC (Atlanta)
Funny how everyone's suddenly writing off UGA. '08 has started out just like '07 except we beat SC this time. Does everyone think it's a 3 week season?
Chris Low (1:44 PM)
I'm certainly not writing off Georgia. In the SEC, you win and advance. Look at LSU last year. How many close games did the Tigers win? South Carolina's defense is really good and the Dogs have some issues to fix in their pass protection. Their receivers also have to play better, but I think Georgia will be a player in the SEC race all season long.
Matt (Pcola, FL)
How come I havent heard anyone talk about Bama's Mark Ingram. He has really impressed me so far this season. What are your thoughts on him?
Chris Low (1:45 PM)
Good call. But you know what? I don't think he's been a surprise to Nick Saban. When I met with Saban during the preseason, Ingram was one of the first names Saban mentioned when we started talking about the freshmen and the Tide had only been practicing for about a week.
Will J (Portland, OR)
So who's been the biggest surprise/disappointment so far in the SEC?
Chris Low (1:46 PM)
Biggest surprise would have to be Vanderbilt at this point. Biggest disappointment would be Tennessee.
Jon (Draper, UT)
Chris, how much worse does Tennessee look after BYU beat UCLA 59-0?
Chris Low (1:47 PM)
Well, if you do the math, that means BYU would beat the Vols by 62 ... and wouldn't need overtime.
CC (Atlanta)
Given Tuberville's quick trigger with past OC's, can you see Tony Franklin being there in '09?
Chris Low (1:50 PM)
Unless the whole season unravels, Tommy's not going to have that quick of a hook. It takes some time to put in a brand new system. Tommy was prepared for that, although I don't think he was prepared to be this shaky going into the LSU game. I thought it was a gamble to go from the power, tailback-oriented offense to the spread when you consider how successful the Tigers have been with that system. But I don't think you can make any true judgments on Franklin and this offense until later in the season.
Lee (Nashville)
Will Crompton get pulled as the starting QB if he loses to UF?
Chris Low (1:52 PM)
I don't think the Vols are close to that at this point because there aren't a lot of proven options behind him. But if he plays poorly and the Vols lose, then they probably better start thinking about trying to get somebody else ready.
RIchard (Atlanta)
Chris, Speaking of Brannon Sutherland...Any word on when his return might be?
Chris Low (1:53 PM)
They're hoping for the Tennessee game on Oct. 11 for sure, but would love to get him back for Alabama on Sept. 27
Joey (Charleston, SC)
Would you equate Beckwith's injury this year to Dorsey's last year? That is, would you consider LSU's D to be deep enough where the impact will be minimal?
Chris Low (1:56 PM)
The thing with Dorsey was that the Tigers were so deep in the defensive line and had the luxury of Jean-Francois stepping in late in the season when he became eligible. I'm not sure they're quite that deep at linebacker, although they're not exactly hurting there. It looks like junior Jacob Cutrera will replace him.
Eddie (Chicago)
If Georgia wins out will it be enought to jump Oklahome to play in the BCS Championship game?
Chris Low (1:57 PM)
I'm sticking to my guns and saying that if the SEC champion has one or fewer losses that it will play in the BCS title game.
Pete (Oxford, MS)
Chris, who you got this weekend... Ole Miss or Vandy?
Chris Low (1:59 PM)
I know the Vandy fans will call me a non-believer, but I just think Ole Miss at home and getting healthier on defense will be enough to edge the Commodores
Steven (Los Angeles, CA)
How many more cupcakes are the SEC teams going to schedule for their nonconference games?
Chris Low (2:00 PM)
I don't know. Maybe a few of them will add Ohio State.
Mike (Anaheim)
Chris....tell me who is going to win the SEC. Im ruling out Auburn because they have no offense. Alabama is also out because I dont think they are ready this year. Georgia and LSU have incredibly tough schedules. That leaves Florida. Are they going to do it?
Chris Low (2:01 PM)
Right now, I would go with Florida vs. LSU in the championship game. I picked the Gators in the preseason and will stick with that pick, although LSU looks awfully good.
Josh (New York)
Chris, do u think USC could challange any nfl team for a win?
Chris Low (2:01 PM)
No, but they're clearly the best team in college football this year.
Chris Low (2:02 PM)
Thanks for the questions. We'll do it again next Monday.
