Hey folks, be sure to check back here at 10 a.m. ET for another Your Take chat with Amy Nelson! One of your comments could be used on-air!
Amy Nelson (9:41 AM)
Hey everyone. We'll be starting the chat in about 20 minutes. Mets fans, what's the deal? We'll be talking about that, Ryan Howard and anything else on your mind. So send in your comments and we'll pick a few to read on the air.
Amy Nelson (10:01 AM)
Ok guys let's get it started today
daniel (philadelphia)
ryan howard is doing what mvp's do in september, lead his team from behind to first place and assault power numbers. dont forget his .989 feilding pct.
Joe (Lexington, ky)
The Mets are who we thought they were!
Blake (Detroit, Michigan)
The Mets are going to be right where the tigers are in october sitting at home watching Tampa Bay beat the cubs in the world series
Ted (Philly)
If the Mets collapse again this September and let the Phillies take the NL East they won't be able to blame the manager anymore. Will ownership have to blow up their core guys to build a team that won't fold under pressure.
Amy Nelson (10:03 AM)
I guess the team meeting didn't work before last night's game.
Adam Griffith (Tampa, FL)
The Mets stick a fork in them they are done
lucas, newark,delaware
go phils!!!!!!!!!!! down with the mets!!!!!!!! howard is a beast and should be in the running for mvp
Bob, Hagerstown, Md
Nats are young and kind of exciting but they definitely shouldn't be trouncing the Mets. Sorry New York but you are looking at a repeat of next year. http://www.examiner.com/x-875-DC-Sports-Examiner
Chris (East Lansing)
I'm wondering about the Met's the same way I wonder about the Lions. Like S A Smith said, you can have strong arms, strong legs, but without a head, you're going nowhere. Is there a problem with the culture in that clubhouse, and where does that originate from? Willy's gone...
Amy Nelson (10:06 AM)
I think it's defnitely part of the culture in the clubhouse.
Travis (Fargo ND)
The Mets arnt built for the playoffs. The Phillies dont play there best ball until the games mean the most.
Ryan(Jville FL)
The Rays continue to hold on to first place! If there are any doubters out there please cut off your phones and internet because you deserve no contact with the outside world! GO RAYS!
Joe (Staunton, VA)
If a manager has to motivate players in situations like the Mets are in then it's not the manager, it's the players. These players have been playing long enough to know what's at stake. If the Mets collapse, then blame the players the past two seasons.
Scooby Rahway,NJ
The Mets are a good team with a below average bullpen. We wouldn't even be talking about a September collapse if the pen didn't blow 27 saves this year.
Amy Nelson (10:07 AM)
Indeed, a huge part of the problem is the bullpen.
Jerry Manuel (NYC)
Hey guys, would you like to by my cd of that speech I gave last night? It's $8.95 plus shipping and handling
Amy Nelson (10:08 AM)
Jerry, I think you even said so yourself that you could never put that out on the market...must have not been very inspiring.
Matt (Oxford, MS)
Amy please tell me you hate the cowboys and like the Giants. Or even the eagles. Please.
Amy Nelson (10:09 AM)
None of the above. I think the Cowboys are an intruiguing team. I root for good storylines (since I'm a writer)...which brings me to this
Jason (Pittsburgh, PA)
Amy, who ever told you that you know anything about sports?
Amy Nelson (10:09 AM)
It's already started this morning! Yes, it's true I really don't. It's all a mirage...
Pappy (Manistee, Michigan)
Don't get excited about Howard being MVP.. he had a really rough beginning. If anyone on that team gets MVP it will be Lidge, a pitcher which doesn't have a good chance for that to happen. He is the reason for the team being in talks for winning thier division.
Amy Nelson (10:09 AM)
Good point.
brett favre nyj
wheres thefavre talk? i know i lost to the pats but im still brett the new jet AND im on next monday night against the bolts.... keep the favre chat alive
Amy Nelson (10:10 AM)
wow, narcisstic, you are.
Carl (Texas)
What's with the Brewers firing Yost in the middle of a pennant chase? It's foolish.
Amy Nelson (10:10 AM)
They needed to do something. As one player told me the other day: something needed to change.
Thomas Burlington, NC
Wonder how the Yankees feel now. Dodgers and Torre are set to make the playoffs and the Yanks have been out of contention for a while. Good Job New York.
Blake (Detroit, Michigan)
i just cant believe the brewers i think big mistake firing ned yost is a big mistake because they wouldnt be where they are with out him
Amy Nelson (10:11 AM)
Fair enough, but Attansio obviously needed to do something since the team wasn't responding. HE didnt get Sabathia to not make the playoffs
Blake (Detroit, Michigan)
i think the brewers will still make the playoffs big dog fielder is gonna come through for the team and crush 6 maybe 7 homers before the end of the season
Lester (Louisville, KY)
and how did Sabathia do with the new manager??
Amy Nelson (10:12 AM)
It's one game. We'll see what happens the next week and a half.
Paul Valdez (Austin, Tx)
Brewers are done Mets get the wild card and the Phils take it
Anthony,Newark,DE
Amy while Johan didnt pitch like freddy garcia did for my phillies this year like i had went out on a limb to say before the season started..he hasnt turned them into instant playoff locks either
Kevin (C-Bus, Ohio)
Pryor over Boeckman as the starter this week for the Buckeyes? What is best for the team or loyalty to the SR. That is the Buzz this week in Columbus. What Would Skip Bayless DO??
Drew Hazard, Kentucky
Watching the mets losing to the nationals while being flat out dominated by Odalis Perez, seriously Odalis Perez. Its clear to see now as it was when they fired Willie Randolph, its not the manager in New York its the players. Maybe Omar Manyia will fire some of them at 4am on a road trip.
David (DE)
Well someone with a low average and who strikes out 190 times a year shouldnt be MVP in my book
Matt (South Bend, IN)
Kevin OSU should of redshirted Pryor this year, so he had four years of eligibility, and four years to start as QB.
Kevin (Houston)
If the Mets go belly-up again, Omar will be No More
whit(brooklyn,new york)
obviously the manager is not the problem with the mets.It is the team and the person responsible for hand crafting this team of tin men.blame willie now omar, you blew your chance to win over new york because the yankees will be back next year!ps Howard for MVP
Pappy (Manistee, Michigan)
The brewers still have a chance people, I would say they are going to make it. The Mets are going to win the division and the brewers are going to get the wild card.
Amy Nelson (10:15 AM)
Mike Cameron told me the other day that in spite of all the losing, they were still in a good position. They have to win tonight. That clubhouse either needs a win or a good baseball brawl
EJ (Green Bay)
That was a tough spot for Sveum...To come in with 12 games left, and your first series is against the Cubs, who are coming off of a 1-hit mini-series with Houston. Cubs are hot...Brewers are not....Sveum is going to have to capture the magic from his 1987 Easter Sunday walkoff homer in the midst of the Brewers 13-game winning streak to start the season
Justin (Tampa, FL)
The Brewers are falling apart right in front of our eyes. They fire their manager and still cant respond to this losing streak with their ace on the hill!
Ted (Flossmoor, IL)
Hey, Kevin. You guys still sore from that pounding you took on Saturday?
Matt (South Bend, IN)
Uh Amy fighting? It isn't hockey season yet.
Amy Nelson (10:16 AM)
some times teams just a good fight to let it all out. it's better than them fighting each other.
Jake (Pennsauken, NJ)
The Phillies have the easiest schedule out of the three they will definatley pull it out
Rob
Lets talk football
Amy Nelson (10:18 AM)
and...?
Arlon Sioux City IA
There is no way a player can win a MVP only being in a league half a year. If Manny wins the mvp it cheapens the award for those great players who was in the league all year
Amy Nelson (10:19 AM)
agreed.
Justin (Tampa, FL)
As for ryan howard being MVP...can we look at his .230 average...yea he has power but he isnt coming up with enough hits consistantly. Albert Pujols deserves it way more than Howrd or any other candidate
Anthony,Newark,DE
pappy?..really u think the melts take the nl east?..haha stop it melts are done just like last year and this time they cant blame it on billy wagner...PHILLIES TAKE THE EAST ONCE AGAIN..and the brewers take the wild card
Thomas Burlington, NC
Always enjoy when my Panthers get no love. That's when the Cardiac Cats thrive baby!
Amy Nelson (10:20 AM)
my cousin works for the panthers so i always root for them. it'd be great if they can sustain it...
Josh (Texas)
Football time. What a weekend of games we had. USC proved that they were unstoppable and Monday I witnessed one of the greatest football games I've seen in a while (and I hate the Cowboys).
Joe (Staunton, VA)
The Chargers will be a .500 team this year. It's a shame that you have all that talent and Norv Turner as your coach.
Brian (Mesquite, NV)
MVP talk: Albert Pujols puts up GAUDY numbers every year and he almost seems like an afterthought. I guess it's just expected.
Chris (Boston)
Giants are repeating, they already look WAY better than they did last year and Eli FINALLY looks like the quarterback they thought he would when they drafted him
Jason (Jacksonville, FL)
All in-state bias aside, after last night's win the Rays seem like this season's Team of Destiny. 54 days in first and still counting! Go Rays!
david (glendale, arizona)
no love for the cardinals amy whats up with that, the seahawks are dones its our division
Amy Nelson (10:22 AM)
really? where's your boy leinart? i guess they're just fine without him...
EJ (Green Bay)
Sunday night football...fight for supremecy in the NFC...I didnt thinkk the Packers had a chance at winning because of the Cowboy D, but after seeing the Eagles without any receivers put up 37 pts, I think it will be a nice shootout with the Pack taking the 3-0 record out of the weekend
Matt (LaCrosse , wi)
Norv Turner could never coach no matter where he was
Vince (NYC)
Tropicana Field was 77% full last night, but it was 55% Red Sox's fans
Amy Nelson (10:22 AM)
seemed to me that wasn't the case...though i wasn't there.
Josh (Texas)
The Chargers got ripped off even though I agree with Joe that the Chargers won't be doing much with Norv Turner as the coach. They won last year despite him.
Ted (Flossmoor, IL)
How about that knucklehead DeSean jackson making fantasy owners everywhere whine?
Amy Nelson (10:23 AM)
yes, that must have been brutal if he's on your fantasy team.
Paul Valdez (Austin, Tx)
Vince is just mad because a rag tag group of kids is going to crush the "mighty" soxx
Michael (wilmington, north carolina)
i loved it but i have westbrook on my squad
Adam, Northford, CT
When they average 10,000 fans and all of a sudden the sox come to town and theres 30,000+, I think its safe to say most of them aren't rays fans.
Amy Nelson (10:25 AM)
yes but i think finally peope in the area realize this is for real./ im not saying sox fans weren't majority, but it felt like there were a lot of rays fans there. either that or pumped in crowd noise...
Travis (Columbus, OH)
Speaking of fantasy, someone want to tell LT it's not the preseason anymore? He's killin' my team.
Chris (East Lansing)
Where did all of those Atlanta Falcons backers run off to? It's tough when you don't play the Lions.
Joe (Staunton, VA)
Tampa Bay doesn't deserve a team if the fans can't fill the place in a game vs. the Sox. Relocate them to northern Virginia, we would love a team up here.
Brian (NC)
Don't complain.....I had Brady
Amy Nelson (10:29 AM)
rouch...
Rob (Philly)
Isn't it ironic that the MVP debate between Howard and Pujols came up two years ago, and is backwards this year if the Phils make it. What was Albert's quote when he lost...
Amy Nelson (10:29 AM)
that someone on a losing team should never win it.
aundre (kansas city)
Vikings are overrated. They cannot score, pass & no wr's or qb!!!!
Tom (Chicago)
Someone want to tell the Bengals to start playing offense? Chad 8 5 hasn't done anything all year.
Tony (Tucson, Arizona)
I think DeSean Jackson needs to be knocked down a notch. Players need to have confidence and possibly a littly cockiness but he is too into himself.
Amy Nelson (10:31 AM)
i would hope that humbled him.
Jake (Syracuse)
Delgado should be the MVP this year, he has carried the Mets this year, without him they would be in 3rd or 4th place in the division.
Amy Nelson (10:32 AM)
he should have consideration but his numbers aren't as good as pujols's.
jesse, acwoth GA
It didn't humble Jackson when he did it last time, why would it this time?
Amy Nelson (10:32 AM)
because he was in high school then, and now he didn't it on the biggest stage. embarassing.
Matt (Boston)
If doing a sumersault and not making it in didn't teach him anything, this bonehead move won't either. McNabb should have ripped into him.
Amy Nelson (10:32 AM)
i guess we'll see, right?
Ted (Flossmoor, IL)
If you know Jackson, it won't humble him. He was a trash talker all through college, and in a high school all star game, he jumped to do a flip over the goalline, only to go down at the one because he jumped from too far away!
Marc (Philadelphia)
I hope that humbled him, hes a great player and id hate to see him lose everything because hes too cocky and cant play on a team like T.O. we need more players like westbrook
mike (philly)
LEAVE JACKSON ALOOOOONNNEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Monty (DC)
I am from Pittsburgh and saw Pryor in high school make the other teams defense look like a pee wee team. He has the "it" factor and has out played Boeckman. Not even USC could fully stop him. If he starts and Beanie comes back healthy, the Buckeyes could get back into national championship talk.
Trevor (Michigan, Flint)
I've been a long time Lions fan and Surprise another 0-2 start. When are the lions going to fire Matt Millen and move in another direction. Dana and I may be the only Lions fan left.
Amy Nelson (10:34 AM)
stephen a was killing him yesterday. and for good reason...
Arlon Sioux City IA
They should bench Jackson right now for a game and teach him a leason
Blake (Detroit, Michigan)
Desean jackson made a bad move but he will be an explosive player soon for the soon to be super bowl champs
Duddy (STL )
DeSean Jackson should run 5 miles each day to remember what he did
D. Love(charlotte)
Don't worry, steelers will take care of that cockyness this weekend with Jackson
jesse, acwoth GA
Humble him? It got him on EVERY highlight reel, they even showed his dance, who care if it may have cost his team, HE WAS ON TV!!
Amy Nelson (10:35 AM)
good point, but i would think some of his teammates took him aside and told him to cut it out.
Matt (Boston)
Over/Under on how many times monty gets a message on TV. 5?
Amy Nelson (10:36 AM)
hmmmmm, monty comes correct. alonzo from atl and johnny from scranton have now been replaced as best commenters...
Mo Buffalo
When are people going to realize that the Jets were all hype, that the Pats can barley beat a horrible Chiefs team, then they barley beat the the over-rated NY Bretts(who barley beat a team that won one game last season). The Bills have the running game and defense to beat both these teams and are going to win the AFC East. The old Pats D,and the Jets have no chance
Amy Nelson (10:37 AM)
that'd be a great story, wouldn't it? the team everyone slept on makes this run in this division...
DeSean Jackson (Philly)
I didn't mean to do that its just that I'm so small that I couldn't hold the football in one hand...its too big!!
Brad (Tampa)
My dad and I have had Rays season tickets since the franchise started, this is the first year where there are a majority of Rays fans for the Sox and Yanks series. They Avg. over 20,000 attendance for the season not 10 and the mix for the last couple Sox series has been 65/35 in favor of the Rays. First year I've ever seen the Rays fans be able to drown out the Sox fans when they get rowdy.
Brian (NC)
Andy Reed should have pulled him right out of the game, but didnt....You never ever saw him chewing him out or anything.
Amy Nelson (10:37 AM)
yes, perhaps in private, after the game. i agree, baseball managers have done that, why can't football coaches?
JT (Charlotte)
over/under that I can get a message in, 0
Amy Nelson (10:38 AM)
over!
Jason (Pittsburgh, PA)
Amy, have you considered retirement? I think it would suit you.....
Amy Nelson (10:39 AM)
hah! you wanna pay me? how bout you come and write all my stories for me? i'm sure you could do a better job talkign to these guys and getting them to open up....just lemme know!
tim (california)
hi amy would u rather seen in the super bowl panthers or eagles
Amy Nelson (10:40 AM)
panters, but i'm biased. my cousin works for the owner.
Seth (Jupiter, Fl)
Ohio State does not even play a strong enough schedule to go undefeated the rest of the way and get into the national title. I do not think that they will be able to accomplish that feat anyway. Ohio State has not shown up in big time football games in a while.
Blake (Detroit, Michigan)
Amy say something about the redwings and how they are gonna win the next 2 stanley cups come on you know that its gonna happen!!!
Amy Nelson (10:41 AM)
looks like johnny isn't on the chat today, he's usually the hockey guy.
Travis (Columbus, OH)
Does your cousin ever sit in on practice with a camera hoping to get good youtube footage?
Amy Nelson (10:41 AM)
nice...
Joe (Staunton, VA)
Don't let Jason get to you Amy, I think your great!
Amy Nelson (10:42 AM)
oh please. i post it because it humors me.
Seth (Jupiter, Fl)
Ohio State has not shown up for a big time football game in three years. They should not be in the national title until they beat an SEC or PAC10 soundly.
Jared, Subville
Ryan Howard should not win the MVP simply because of those Subway ads. The "mmmmm" Hall of Fame? Are you serious?
Amy Nelson (10:43 AM)
oh man, that is unbelieavble. he must hear it all the time from his teammates. i wonder how many takes it took him toget it down?
Paul (Cleveland)
OSU can;t be and shouldn;t be int he national championship game every year. As a Fan, I'm disappointed by last week, but it's not like we haven;t had a lot of sucess the past 5 years. better than being a MI fan anyway. :)
jesse, acwoth GA
Why would Howard get the MVP when he has the same OPS of Pat Burrel for 3rd on his team? He just get to bat with more runners on base, switch then in the Lineup and Burrel has 120 RBI and Howard 80.
Amy Nelson (10:46 AM)
i think it's a little overreation. it's like anything, a guy gets hot and hits in the clutch suddenly he should be MVP.
Chaz Michael Michaels (Zimbabwe)
Let's talk figure skating.
Amy Nelson (10:46 AM)
that's a first...
Chris (Philadelphia)
Being that it is a "Philly Cheesesteak" sandwich it is only suitable to get someone from Philly to do it. When Subway introduces its "Melts" sandwiches call David Wright
Amy Nelson (10:47 AM)
sounds like a guy from philly...
Matt (Boston)
Darren McFadden will be Offesnive Rookie of the Year. Book it. He will single handely turn around the raiders. That monday night game, they barley gave him touches. Now that fargas is down, he will be getting more and more.
Paul (Ohio)
Over under on a total Mets collapse
Amy Nelson (10:48 AM)
anyone?
Ted (Flossmoor, IL)
I'm picking the Mets to win the division because everyone here thinks they are "done."
Carl (Texas)
McFadden is good but he will not turn around the Raiders. Not with Al Davis firing caoches every year.
tim (california)
over
Matt (South Bend, IN)
What? An Oakland Raider...winning an award? Not gonna happen unless Al Davis gives up ownership.
Matt (Boston)
Sadly, I don't see the mets collapsing the way they did last year. They will pull it out.
Chris (Boston)
over
Paul (Ohio)
By the way Amy do you think espn will give you a chance to do MNF. I think you would match well with Jaws and Tarico
Amy Nelson (10:51 AM)
never will happen. remember, i don't know anything about sports...
Aundre (Kansas City, MO)
under
Matt (Boston)
No matter who your owner is, anything is possible. Look at the bruins, Jeremy Jacobs doesn't even know who the captian is, all he knows is being cheap. And they still made the playoffs last year.
Chad (N.O. via Savannah)
Hey Amy neither does Kornheiser but they let him on MNF.
Amy Nelson (10:53 AM)
aw that's not nice. tony's been a columnist for how many years? at one of the top paper's in the country...
Ted (Flossmoor, IL)
So who has the best chance of beating USC if they make the championship game? I'm going with Florida because they have a mobile QB and play a spread scheme similar to the one that Vince Young beat them with. Thoughts?
Amy Nelson (10:53 AM)
ted, you're obsessed with SC!
Chuck Norris (China)
Tony is a dear friend of mine. I should roundhouse kick you in the face!
Adam Griffith (Tampa, FL)
Oklahoma will beat USC in the BCS Championship Ted
Tom (Chicago)
I can't stand Ohio State, but Boeckman shouldn't be playing anymore. He's been awful in the last 4-5 games.
Josh (Texas)
When will college coaches understand that 2 QB equals 0? I hate it when coaches do this. Bench Brokeman and start Pryor.
Chris (East Lansing)
Any team from the SEC has a chance to beat USC.
david(glendale, arizona)
usc, yeah its going to be sad for ted when asu takes you out in a few weeks, i know i know a loss to unlv but were going to teach sc a lesson this year
Michelle(Boston)
Amy, Did you ever want to get slimed on Nickelodeon when you were younger?
Amy Nelson (10:56 AM)
ok that qualifies as the strangest of the day...
Chris(athens)
Chris is right, Vandy would have a legit chance against the overrated USC
Blake, Garland Tx
sorry adam but oklahoma while good cant even compete on the field with USC they are too fast and too athletic they might even beat teams like the raiders, chiefs, or rams
Rick Neuheisel, Los Angeles
I guess the football monopoly in Los Angeles isn't over.
Matt (Boston)
Michelle from boston is making matt from boston look sane.
Aundre (Kansas City, MO)
Blake put down the drugs!
mike (mt pleasant)
overrated????? they are the real deal and will kill vandy and asu
Mike (Happy Valley)
USC will stumble in conference as they do every year.
Blake (Detroit, Michigan)
who didnt want to get slimed when they were younger come on michelle
Chris(athens)
Blake, you're an idiot... USC doenst have a chance against an NFL team. Sanchez doesnt know what to do if he ever had pressure
Joey (Wooster Ohio)
The majority of the guys on walterfootball.com all say Tarvarius Jackson is the only thing keeping the Vikings out of the Super Bowl. As long as Brad Childress is foolishly keeping him as their starting quarterback their team will underachieve and Childress in the end will lose his job.
jesse, acwoth GA
They said that abous USC 3 years ago (beating an NFL team) and they obviously could just look how Leinart and Bush are setting Records in the NFL!
Matt (South Bend, IN)
Jesse, USC had a team...not a bunch of individual stars...as you've seen in the NFL.
Leonard(Trenton, NJ)
Man for man USC is the best team in the country and it will take a monster effort by an opponent and a very bad day by USC. After watching them destroy my Buckeyes I don't see them not winning a national title.
Thomas Burlington, NC
Anyone else think the Cowboys will choke?
Rob...(Wash DC)
buckeyes were overrated and then exposed...
The Grimace
Why do the Vikings still wear purple?
Amy Nelson (11:08 AM)
grimace, you got a problem with that?
Blake, Garland Tx
your crazy to think the boys with choke they are the real deal no questions
Anthony,Newark,DE
cowgirls are overrated if the eagles without there top 2 wr's can run up 30 points on the cowgirls they are in some trouble
Rob Greenville North Carolina
East Carolina Pirates wear purple and we are dong very well thank..go purple....
Josh
The Cowboys are NOT the real deal until they win a playoff game this century. This year is Wade Phillips farewell tour.
Tony (Tucson, Arizona)
I know the Broncos got a call last game that enabled them to win, but I also think people have overlooked them this year. I think they are better than what was expected. I just hope they improve their defense.
Amy Nelson (11:15 AM)
but they had no business winning that game. iw ill give them credit for completely exposing the chargers defense in those two final plays...
Roland, kankakee, IL
Dallas is OVERRATED.....Maybe when they play a GOOD defense in Green Bay, we will see just HOW good Dallas is....I bet Aaron Rodgers is just Dyin to torch that defense like the Eagles Did...
Robert (Winston-Salem, NC)
Thank You Very Much for finally getting some PANTHER love on the screen AMY!!! Keep it up, LOL... Be biased...
Ted (Flossmoor, IL)
The Panthers look pretty good. Two impressive come from behind wins.
Terrell Owens (TX)
I am gonna be the super bowl mvp this year because I always play my biggest on the biggest stage.
Aaron, ND
The Vikings underachieve ever year. Every time they do or are supposed to do something great they choke. I don't know why everyone thought that it was going to be different this year and being a Packer fan I say let Tavaris play.
Chris (East Lansing)
Haha. Oh dear dear Matt Millen. Hey. Are there any other washed up running backs out there with big names that I can hire to produce the illusion that I know what I'm doing?
Rob Greenville North Carolina
Cutler reminds me of a young Elway...but will his offensive line be able to sustain him...he isn't as mobile as Elway was at this satge of his career..
Thomas Burlington, NC
I understand the Hochuli messed up BUT THE CHARGERS STILL COULD HAVE STOPPED THEM ON FOURTH DOWN AND THE 2 PT CONVERSION SO THEY STILL BLEW IT.
Zach (Oshkosh)
We all know the play was a fumble, but how many times per year do we come across the situation where the play is blown dead. During the Dallas-Philly game when DeSean Jackson threw that backwards, that to me should have been Dallas ball which completely would have turned the tides of the game. It was unfortunate timing for the Chargers but the Broncos still had 3rd and 10 and needed to 2 point conversion...stop somebody!
Tony (Tucson, Arizona)
I would disagree they had no business winning that game. A few calls were missed in game as a whole. What about the missed holding call that allowed the Chargers to continue the drive and score a TD? If that was not missed the end play would not have even mattered.
Amy Nelson (11:19 AM)
i meant with what happened in those last two plays.
Ted (Flossmoor, IL)
It's amazing that Millen still is employed. I think he's been in Detroit longer than Ford Motor Company has.
Carl (Texas)
The Panthers are getting the #1 seed this year. Did you see that easy schedule they got? They should at least get 12 wins.
gary (au gres, mi)
HEY!... CHRIS! NO ONE PUTS "MILLEN" IN A CORNER. *TEARS RUNNING DOWN FACE* NO ONE!!
Anthony,Newark,DE
BLAKE?..they are the real deal?..lol..they couldnt stop the "high powered" eagles offense from scoring. they are in trouble..and u are a fool to think differently
Amy Nelson (11:20 AM)
did anyone see that josh howard youtube video of him dissing the star spangled banner?
Amy Nelson (11:21 AM)
i guess mark cuban has already addressed it with howard (who was at a iverson's charity flag football agme in July when a camera caught him dissing the anthem).
Will (St. Louis)
Do you NL East people really think Howard and/or Delgado are better candidates for MVP over Pujols? Quit being such homers (says the guy from St. Louis).
Nate (Madison)
Amy, some people decide to use the brain they were born with. Other's choose not to. I think we know where Josh Howard fits.
Roland, kankakee, IL
Is that video going to get as much publicity as Chrish Cooley studying naked??? What was the deal with that anyways?
Amy Nelson (11:23 AM)
didn't hear about that one...
Monty(DC)
Josh Howard has his rights to say whatever he wants but until he shows up in the post season he should have his speaking privileges taken away. The Mavs should have traded Howard when they had the chance for Ron Artest who is also some trouble but shows up in big games.
Ryan Cambridge, Minnesota
I hate how people rip Tavaris Jackson when the coaching staff really inst giving him a chance to get in a rythem. Also they just call all these dump offs which is still going to keep the same number of people in the box so I think the blame has to go to the coaching staff partially. Im not saying that tavaris is Tom Brady or Peyton, just that they need to give him the opportunity to excel.
Blake, Garland Tx
i used to like josh but he hasnt lived up to his potential yet and hes starting to cause negative attention in the media lately with the whole marajuana thing and now this, cuban needs to deal
Anthony,Newark,DE
josh howard should have to be made to play basket ball over seas for the iraq team for the next 3 years. maybe then he will show the proper respect to this countrys anthem
Michelle(Boston)
Come on Amy You have to admit if you were to get slimed on the air reading reader responses that it would be on of the funniest moments in First Take History!
Amy Nelson (11:26 AM)
indeed. but i'm not 9 years old anymore.
Zach (Oshkosh, WI)
Howard needs to be under the same scrutiny as anyone else when they disrespect the nation like that. He needs to shut his mouth, make his millions, and stay away from cameras...Oh and practice his jump shot.
Josh
Wow I just saw the Josh Howard video. I was expecting that the camera was hidden or something but the idiot was talking to the camera dissing it. What a fool.
Nate, New Orleans, LA
What do you think the chances are of a cross-town Chicago World Series?
Amy Nelson (11:31 AM)
Nate, Thanks, I'd love it (less travel) but I'm not sure if the White Sox can advance.
DJ (Minneapolis)
At least Delgado just sits down. Howard is mocking and that is much worse.
Roland, kankakee, IL
Our White Sox LOST the MVP in Carlos Quentin....Our GREAT defense at 3rd with Joe Crede....and we are more of a POWER team.. and That doent work in Cold weather...and a 1st round matchup with the Red sox/ Rays is intriguing....I would be shocked if the cubs DONT make it...They are LOADED with talent and depth
Anthony,Newark,DE
NATE.. no chance white sox wont get to the world series, and the cubs well they are the cubs something will happen between now and october
jose (fresno ,ca )
how about angles n dodgers world series?
Amy Nelson (11:34 AM)
oh man, dream scenario for me! warm weather no travel! and the west coast ppl couldn't complain about a lack of west coast love...
Amy Nelson (11:35 AM)
as for howard, i agree with monty. he's well within his right to express that. but i would say not so smart in front of a camera...
Chris (East Lansing)
I'd lay off Josh Howard just a bit. I mean, what he said might have been stupid to many people, but it was pretty much right in line with the attitudes and language in the rest of that video.
Ted (Flossmoor, IL)
The Dodgers are red hot right now. They remind me of the Rockies last year.
Roland, kankakee, IL
The sox WILL win the division...And we do Have PLENTY of expereince compared to a YOUNG rays team.... But Our injuries and lack of a good bullpen will hold us back and NO CARLOS QUENTIN...
Kenny (Dubuque, IA)
USC has a very good team this year and its hard to say that they wont make it to the championship game.. but they cant slow up and take for granted any team on their schedule, especially a U.C.L.A team that is looking for an upset this yr.
Tony (Tucson, Arizona)
Dodgers? No way. East and Central are the best divisions at the moment. Though it pains me since I would have like to see the Diamondbacks get into it.
Roland, kankakee, IL
Well the Dodgers have been around all year...in a POOR division......The rockies came OUTTA NOWHERE winnin what....21 of there last 22...
Amy Nelson (11:39 AM)
...in a poor division...
Ed Hochuli, Refville
I can't believe the official scorer ruled Derek Jeter's shot to third last night a base hit. That was clearly a missed call. They should use instant replay to rectify that call.
Amy Nelson (11:39 AM)
hey ed, stick to football.
Amy Nelson (11:39 AM)
you sound like a bitter chargers fan...
jesse, acwoth GA
With those guns of his, I wouldn;t disagree with anything Ed has to say ...
DJ (Minneapolis)
Don't be shocked if the White Sox make it to the WS and the Cubs don't
Amy Nelson (11:41 AM)
i wouldn't be shocked by anything in baseball...with the rockies last year and then the cardinals winning it all a few years ago?
Ted (Flossmoor, IL)
Amy, you know any other bitter Chargers fans?
Amy Nelson (11:41 AM)
hmmmmm, i bet i could cull up a few if i had too.
Thomas Burlington, NC
Everyone keeps bashing Norv for the mediocrity of the Chargers. But the PLAYERS still have to play, so that means that DEFENSE still has to STOP someone sometime. That offense won't outscore opponents every game.
Blake, Garland Tx
i think chargers fans are more bitter that maybe LT is becoming a little brittle and his days might be numbered as a dominant back
sloelover Haw River NC
Norv needs to just go on 2 the house,,he ehasn't done nothin since levin the Cowboys and its not like he was nothin special there...
Kevin (Arlington, VA)
Amy, what is up with the music during this segment? Does it jam through the studio while you're broadcasting? If so, you know Skip is getting down!
Amy Nelson (11:46 AM)
it's in our ears and i think there's some country twang in there or something. and no, i dont think skipis getting down.
sloelover Haw River NC
I just wanna make this very clear...LT is thru....he can't take pain ( play hurt)..
Roland, kankakee, IL
Perfect i cant wait to hear what SKIP says about josh howard
Justin, North Carolina
I don't think that the argument that Josh Howard may take offense to the Star Spangled Banner is valid. Frances Scott Key wrote that song during the Revolutionary War. Long before slavery became a problem in this country, and if he doesn't do that
Amy Nelson (11:55 AM)
well here's the problem, this is a loaded topic, and can't be hashed over in just a few minutes.
Amy Nelson (11:55 AM)
and with that guys i've got to wrap it up today. thanks everyone for all of your comments and i'll be back next wednesday.
