Keith Lipscomb (3:02 PM)
Good afternoon, everyone! I'm ready to go. I hope you are as well.
DJ, bay area
Keith! I have both Branch and Engram riding my bench...who should I drop??? Do u think they will be effective right away? Thanks!
Keith Lipscomb (3:04 PM)
If I had to pick one to drop, it would be Branch, because I think his knee will take time to get used to being back on the field in a game situation. Engram is expected to be fine, really, and more ready to contribute right away ... which I think he will, yes.
Leo(Toronto Canada) Wr Question
Denver Def or Carlonia this week thx Keith
Keith Lipscomb (3:06 PM)
I'd go with Denver, because I expect KC to turn it over more and allow more sacks, because they'll likely throw more.
Kyle, Idaho
I have McLain and Pittman both on my bench who has the best upside as the season goes on? Also going along with this is there anything to worry about with Baltimores situation with rotating RB's as I have McGhee on my roster as well.
Keith Lipscomb (3:08 PM)
McClain happens to be supplying a nice power option to McGahee as he works his way back into a full workload. But if he isn't careful, or keeps getting nicked up McClain might not give up his share of carries. I'm definitely staying tuned on this one, because the team obviously has confidence in him. Because of that, I think McClain has more upside, since he stands a better of chance of getting regular carries, while Pittman should remain only a goal-line candidate.
John (PA)
I have antonio gates and tony schefler...i was offered slaton for schefler...is this a good trade?
Keith Lipscomb (3:09 PM)
Well, assuming you can't start two TEs, it never hurts to have RB depth, right? This way, you don't have to guess which TE to start, either.
dennis, akron ohio
I am in a keeper leauge and would like to pickup a RB that will be something late this season or next. Should I pickup Cadilac or Jamaal Charles?
Keith Lipscomb (3:10 PM)
I actually would take Charles among those two, but don't forget about Ryan Torain in Denver, who could be an option when he comes off the PUP list or definitely in 2009.
Haden (Memphis)
Bryant Johnson: too streaky to start at WR2?
Keith Lipscomb (3:12 PM)
It depends who else you've got, really, but with a bye week that takes out some of the best receivers, the fact that he's facing a soft Saints defense should make you feel better.
Jennifer (Jersey Girl)
Hi Keith - RB2 question: Who would you start this week - C. Johnson, McGahee, S. Young or Hightower? (I also have LDT, but that one's an easy call!)
Keith Lipscomb (3:13 PM)
I really think the Bengals move the ball against the Browns and with no great corners to stop Palmer from slinging it (or a pass rush), I think Johnson has a good game finally.
Chris, Virginia
Follow up on Bryant Johnson question. Would you start him over Hines Ward this week?
Keith Lipscomb (3:15 PM)
While Hines is always the safer play, he hasn't lit up the Ravens during his career, so I'd probably roll the dice with Johnson.
Scott (Michigan)
Good Afternoon Keith. Who would you go with at RB Westbrook, Buckhalter, or MJD. Thanks
Keith Lipscomb (3:16 PM)
Since it's still iffy who will play and how much in Philly, and the fact they play the Bears, I'll go with MJD who should have a good matchup with the Texans.
Lee (VA)
With all the injuries to the WRs in New Orleans, who do you see is the WR1 for this weekend?
Keith Lipscomb (3:18 PM)
I really don't like any of them enough to feel good about ranking them, Lee. It's actually possible Lance Moore winds up getting the most targets, but I'm not willing to put any money on anyone in that WR corps.
D (San Diego)
How effective will JPorter be this week if he plays? Pick two to play this week: Ocho, BJohnson, or JPorter.
Keith Lipscomb (3:19 PM)
Even if he's 100% and in old form, I want to see it before I play him. I'd definitely start the Johnsons.
NICK (SC)
IN TOTAL DESPERATION!!!!!! Big question that I have had for my line up for the past few weeks? Who is the best start for my # 2 spot at WR Ocho Cinco, Josh Reed, Lloyd or Stuckey? Secondly of all the leftovers whose the best for a flex? FYI this is a PPR league. Thanks !!!!
Keith Lipscomb (3:20 PM)
Don't go away from 85, especially against your other choices, and with him facing Cleveland this week. And for flex, I'd go with Josh Reed, because he'll continue to get you receptions and against the Rams, maybe even a score.
Jennifer (Jersey Girl)
It was an RB2 question!!! - Chris Johnson, not Chad. And technically, Chad is no longer a Johnson, he's Ocho Cinco. :) Now what say you?
Keith Lipscomb (3:22 PM)
A-ha! Got me there, Jennifer. I just call him 8-5. I'd gamble on S. Young this week, just because I think the Broncos will run it well and Young has both of his 100-yard games in his career against the Chiefs. Just a hunch, really.
Kyle (Columbia)
Hey Keith, the four experts in the Composite Rankings split on this decision, so you?re the swing vote - Tennessee's D (vs. Gus "2 INTs" Frerotte) or Baltimore's D (vs. an injured Steeler's offense)?
Keith Lipscomb (3:23 PM)
Oooh, the all-important swing vote ... I'm going with Tennessee, because I think Minnesota's more apt to make mistakes on the road in that game.
Mark: (Jacksonville, FL)
In a PPR, are you starting Eddie Royal or Run DMC this week at flex?
Keith Lipscomb (3:25 PM)
I'm going with McFadden, because the Chargers haven't been all that great against the run and I'm not convinced Royal will be a huge threat every week. I expect the Broncos to run the ball well against KC.
Ryan - Lebanon Tennessee
Keith Again I ask which QB Edwards with a good match up , mcnabb sore chest or Rodgers against TB
Keith Lipscomb (3:26 PM)
That's a good one, Ryan. I like the fact that Edwards is putting up good yardage totals and although I think Marshawn Lynch has a big game, the Rams are equal opportunity vs. the run and the pass. Terrible against both, so I would start him. But it's really close.
Mark (BAMA)
Help me out Keith!! Michael Turner or Chris Perry for my number 2 back this week??? And who ya got this week Bama or Georgia??
Keith Lipscomb (3:29 PM)
I know it might sound a bit crazy, because of the two big games that Burner Turner has had, but I think Perry will give the Browns problems when he bounces those inside runs outside and will find the end zone, so I'm going with him in an upset. And no upset on the college gridiron. I like Georgia in that one, and am really looking forward to watching it.
Uno-Dos (Troy, AL)
Carson or Farve this week?
Keith Lipscomb (3:29 PM)
Nice to meet you, 1-2 ... I just don't think the Browns will do well against the Bengals offense, so I'm siding with Palmer here.
Joe (NJ)
Tanked the TE position and just picked up Billy Miller to use for the next couple of weeks. He should see his share of targets considering the lack of depth in the Saints WR corps, correct?
Keith Lipscomb (3:30 PM)
Since Brees does a really nice job of spreading the ball around and the fact that Miller knows the offense, I think he should get some looks, yes. I think a different receiver will benefit each week until Colston comes back.
Bob (Madison, WI)
Josh Reed or Antonio Bryant? Now that Roscoe Parrish is out I am leaning towards Reed to see more balls.
Keith Lipscomb (3:31 PM)
I think Reed's the safer bet to get more targets, until we see Bryant get big-time action in consecutive weeks. And the fact it's the Rams D helps, too.
d
Holt or Felix Jones....i get points for return yards
Keith Lipscomb (3:34 PM)
At least you're sort of guaranteed return yardage, right? If he gets 60 yards in returns and provides another 30-40 from scrimmage, I think Jones is a good option. I'm not sure how Trent Green will look behind that O-Line and against a good defense.
dre (nyc)
Whats up KL? All right so cause of the bye im left with my two best receivers being hines and santonio. Do I play the tandem? or is Lloyd (Bears) or Stuckey(Jets) worth a go? thanks bud
Keith Lipscomb (3:35 PM)
It's Dre Day! I think against the Ravens, it wouldn't be wise to start both Steelers. You might as well pick one to start (I'd go with Ward) and give Lloyd a shot against an Eagles D that is going to make Orton beat them. At least Orton seems to have a little something going with Lloyd. Stuckey's caught TDs so far, but I think the streak could end this week.
Ryan (Dover, Delaware)
PLEASE HELP!!! Pick a side: McFadden and Eddie Royal for Slaton and Steve Smith??
Keith Lipscomb (3:37 PM)
I gotta go Slaton/Smith on that one. While DMC is better than Slaton, there's no guarantee he gets all the carries in Oakland anyway ... meanwhile, Smith is a much better option than Royal.
Dave (Jackson, MI)
Am I crazy like a fox or crazy to play Edwards ahead of Roethlisburger?
Keith Lipscomb (3:37 PM)
Not at all. Edwards has a much better matchup, is healthier and has been good so far already.
j (portland)
alright. last try. would you start lee evans against soft Rams this week over any of these guys: jennings, andre johnson, steve smith?
Keith Lipscomb (3:41 PM)
I think Evans' upside is awful good against the Rams and he's been quite consistent so far this season. So, if I had to pick one of the three to take out, it would be Steve Smith for me ... on this basis: He's got just 6 catches for 71 yards in his past 3 games against Atlanta ... not averages -- totals. So, even though he's obviously better than that, I'm playing the percentages.
IT'S NOT A TOOMER
Should I be excited to start Amani Toomer next week with Buress being out? I think he should put up some good numbers.
Keith Lipscomb (3:41 PM)
Yes, he should. And so could Steve Smith as well.
Jason (Ottawa Canada)
Palmer, O'Sully or Delhomme..pick 2. Thanks
Keith Lipscomb (3:42 PM)
Palmer and JTO for me. Friendlier matchups.
Steve (NYC)
PLEASE HELP, my only two WB's are Big Ben and Trent Green, who do i start?
Keith Lipscomb (3:44 PM)
While I expect Green to throw for more yardage, I'm also worried he could turn it over more, thus negating his advantage. Although I don't expect much from Big Ben, I think I'm leaning his way.
Don (Honolulu, HI)
Which Side Would you rather have Chris Johnson and LJ Smith or Kellen Winslow and Ryan Grant
Keith Lipscomb (3:45 PM)
Definitely Grant/Winslow ... Winslow's just so much better than Smith, and I think Grant's starting to turn the corner with that hammy and will be better as the weeks go along.
Joel ( Roscommon MI)
Keith, I know you are not high on any Saints receivers this week, but is Lance Moore a better option than Berrian going against the third ranked Titans pass defense ? PPR LEAGUE
Keith Lipscomb (3:46 PM)
The fact that it's PPR makes it a bit easier for me to pick Moore. Berrian's obviously a threat to score from anywhere, while Moore is not ... but I do expect Moore to be a target for Brees when they need first downs.
Dominic (Brighton,MI)
Have a few Questions for you Keith 1 )Who would you Start? Favre or Campbell Ravens D/ST or Bucs D/ST 2) Would you rather have Ap or Lynch, Why? Thanks
Keith Lipscomb (3:48 PM)
Dominic, I'd start Favre, Ravens and Lynch. I love Lynch's matchup this week and he always seems to score, which I think could be a problem for the Vikings this week in Tennessee.
Rick (ALASKA)
I traded for Matt Hasslebeck this week. Would I be smart to trade Big Ben? Originally ESPN THE MAG said that Big Ben would have a BIG year, but i'm not seeing that happening, especially if he's gonna be dealing with his shoulder all year. It's obvious that that injury is going to be a nagging one. He's getting dropped on his shoulder nine times a game.
Keith Lipscomb (3:49 PM)
You may be right that that shoulder's going to give him problems all year. He's taking some big hits. And while it's nice to have a good backup QB, you might still be able to get something good for Big Ben in your league, so it's definitely worth exploring.
John (South Florida)
Am I doing this right? I can't seem to get a response. Trade question- (sorry if I asked this question too many times, I don't know much about blog etiquette) As a Barber owner I am feeling the pressure to trade for Felix Jones. I am considering offering up Edgerrin James and the Giants D/ST for Felix Jones and Ravens D/ST. Not enough, too much, insulting, fair offer? Or should I stick with what I have? (I also Have Thomas Jones, Chris Johnson, Steve Slayton and Darren Sproles at RB)
Keith Lipscomb (3:51 PM)
Yes, John, you're doing it right. There just happen to be a few thousand questions (yeah, really), so I can only see so many of them. Sorry about that everyone. You shouldn't feel pressure to get Jones, unless you just want to handcuff him should Barber go down. I can't see how you'd play him over any of those others you have, really. But that's a fair offer, because even though Edge isn't scoring TDs, he's still getting a lot of touches. Good luck!
Ed (nyc)
1 Million DOLLARS - now that i have your attention.. Who would you rather have for this week and the rest of the year? T Holt or C Johnson? I also have Palmer as my qb if that matters.
Keith Lipscomb (3:53 PM)
I'm sticking with my preseason thoughts on these guys and going with 85, even with the shoulder woes. The Bengals play one heck of a schedule, but I expect him to turn things around. I think the QB carousel in STL can't be helping Holt, and neither can the fact the QBs don't have that much time.
JB (CT)
Start 2 from MJD, J. Lewis, S. Young
Keith Lipscomb (3:56 PM)
I'd definitely go with MJD and I'm taking Lewis over Young for two reasons: Lewis torched the Bengals last year and he'll get so many more touches (or should) than Young will. I like Young as a flex play more than as a No. 2, considering your options.
bart, cleveland
Keith, do you ever bench players playing against your favorite team?? I am a die hard Browns fan and don't think I can play Palmer this weeked due to conflict of interest.
Keith Lipscomb (3:56 PM)
It never even crosses my mind, Bart. I play to win every week, and by the way, I'm a Browns fan as well.
chris-ct
"Fight the Power" was voted the top rap song of all time by VH1!! Your thoughts? Also..... Adrian Peterson...what do you expect from him rest of the year? He is on the trading block in my league and I am undecided about how hard to go after him. I have Addai, MJD, Turner, and Perry. What do you think?
Keith Lipscomb (3:59 PM)
Well, I'm glad to see PE got the respect they deserve. Definitely one of my all-time favs. You've got four really good backs, so if you're going to get AP, you could afford to trade any combo to get him. If you've got depth at another position like WR, maybe you package one of your backs and a WR and see how that goes.
And the last question for the day
The forgotten TD ONLY league I think it would be obvious in a standard league but in TD only I cant decide, can Play two M Turner, J Lewis, J Stewart? What do you think Keith?
Keith Lipscomb (4:00 PM)
Oh yes, the ol' TD-only! I actually like Jonathan Stewart to score this week against an Atlanta team that doesn't impress me against the run. TDs are very hard to predict, but my gut tells me to go with Stewart there, which might surprise you a little.
Jim
BROWNS STINK... Got your attention? Help Please. PPR league and need two due to byes...Pick two schlubs please... Curry, Meacham, Patton, Walker, Lelie, Hardy, Jordy Nelson, Miles Austin, Antonioe Chatman, Lance Moore, McCariens?
Keith Lipscomb (4:02 PM)
Yes, they really do right now, Jim. And love the schlubs ... I'll go with Moore and take a shot with McCareins, provided Gage doesn't play.
Jim (Miami)
BUZZER BEATER! Hey, Keith - need your advice. Yes or no! Would you trade Slaton for Welker if you had Portis, Forte and DMC?
Keith Lipscomb (4:03 PM)
Yes, I think I would. As impressive as he's been against a couple pretty good run defenses, I'm not convinced he keeps it up all season. And if you've already got three good backs and need a WR you can start each week, I think it's a good deal.
Will (TX)
AT THE BUZZER . . . FLEX HELP-->> Pick One: Hines Ward(BAL), Chris Johnson(MIN), Braylon Edwards(@Cin), or J. Stewart(ATL)?
Keith Lipscomb (4:04 PM)
I'm going with Stewart, but I do think Braylon should bounce back this week as well.
jason VA)
Keith Do you answer any Hoop questions-?Thoughts on Paul Milsap, Sean May, Eric Gordon? aslo DMC, J Lewis or Ch Johnson?
Keith Lipscomb (4:08 PM)
Sure, I do. I like Millsap as a player, but one thing that concerns me is his fouls. Way too many to be crazy productive if given more minutes. Still a good back-of-the-bench option, though. I'm not nearly as big on May or Gordon this season. Not sure May will ever be fantasy-relevant and Gordon's going to deal with the rookie learning curve. And for the RB question, McFadden's got the most upside this week, so he could just edge out Lewis for this week. I think Johnson could get bottled up against Minny this week.
Keith Lipscomb (4:08 PM)
I'll stick around for another 5-10, since y'all have lots of questions and I don't have anything pressing for once!
Henry (New York)
PLAY'S UNDER REVIEW ONE MORE QUESTION: Got ALOT of depth at RB, would you trade S.Jax for a big time WR? OR do you see him breaking out?
Keith Lipscomb (4:10 PM)
It's hard to predict a breakout, considering he's still been productive in terms of yards from scrimmage, at least. That team just has a lot of issues. If you've got the depth and someone wants a full-time back (and I'm sure SOMEONE does), you should still be able to get a lot back for him.
Adam (Chicago)
PLEASE! Warner or McNabb this week?
Keith Lipscomb (4:11 PM)
Jets pass D hasn't impressed much, and with Westbrook at least not himself, Warner has more upside this week.
Sean (ATco,NJ)
Do you play either Titan RB this week vs the Vikes?
Keith Lipscomb (4:12 PM)
Not if I didn't have to. That's a tough D to run against and I try to steer clear if I have better options.
Alexis (Cleveland)
Sell high on The Burner?
Keith Lipscomb (4:14 PM)
Well, there's no doubt Turner is going to be up and down this season. Atlanta would rather not throw the ball 30 times with a rookie, but they'll be behind in their share of games this season and will have to, and Turner's numbers will suffer in those games. If you get blown away by an offer him, I think you have to at least consider pulling the trigger.
Pick One Please
Antonio Bryant or Engram for the rest of the year?
Keith Lipscomb (4:15 PM)
Gotta go Engram there. Better track record and Hasselbeck will be so excited to have him back.
Karl (Chicago)
How about a baseball question? Who is the better keeper, Ellsbury or Bruce? Thanks!
Keith Lipscomb (4:18 PM)
I like Bruce long term and expect him to be better next year, now that he's gone through close to a full season. I expect the steals to come up to the 15-20 range, and with his advantage in power, I like him better overall.
steph (SoCal)
Trying to get rid of Edge...only offers for trade were straight up for either LJ or Marvin Harrison. Should I even bother?
Keith Lipscomb (4:20 PM)
Sure ... at least LJ still gets the goal-line carries in KC (when they get in the red zone, that is). And while Marvin may not be what he used to be, he still will probably score more TDs than Edge this year. If Edge continues to get yards only, he just doesn't have as much value.
Keith Lipscomb (4:21 PM)
All right. Now I need to go, but thanks for the great turnout, and please know that I'm trying to share the wealth here, so please don't be discouraged if I don't get to (or even see) your questions. Keep on trying each week and I'll do my best to get to 'em. Good luck in your leagues this week!
