Terry Blount (2:00 PM)
Hello folks. How's it going today?
Scott(hillsborough Nc)
with aj being released. and other opions for other drivers....in reality where do u see Scott Riggs ending up for the 2009 season...Yates or Others
Terry Blount (2:02 PM)
Options are limited for Scott. But there are still a few opening out there. AJ might be the top contender for thr 41 car. Hard to say what will happen at Yates.
Sandy, FL
Last year a number of drivers switched to their next year rides for this test session. Is anyone doing that this year?
Terry Blount (2:02 PM)
Not that I know of.
Joe (Biffle's Bandwagon, NY)
Terry, should Greg Biffle be concerned that after winning two races, he only gained seventy points on Edwards and eighty on Johnson...or should Johnson and Edwards be concerned that Biffle isn't Kasey Kahne and can take the momentum into Kansas and Talladega and mount a serious challenge?
Terry Blount (2:03 PM)
I don't think any of them are worried about the other guys. But Biffle is a serious contender now. He's headed to Kansas, where he won last year. And maybe this time he'll actually cross the finish line first.
Greg (Champaign, IL)
Is it wrong for me to be talking with you on SportsNation during my Physics lecture?
Terry Blount (2:04 PM)
Only if your prof finds out.
Rick (Annapolis, MD)
Have we seen a season before where one guy dominated the season like Kyle Busch and then bombs it down the stretch?
Terry Blount (2:05 PM)
Not so much in the Chase, but it has happened several times in NASCAR history.
Charlie (Milwaukee)
How disappointed is Kyle Busch right now?
Terry Blount (2:06 PM)
About as low as he can get, but he's fighhter. And he's capable of stringing together three or four wins in a row. The problem is he has to pass 11 other guys, and some of them are going to finish near the front, also
Greg (Champaign, IL)
What's the latest with CGRFS merging with MWR?
Terry Blount (2:07 PM)
Chip insists it isn't going to happen. He said he plans to go into the 2009 season with a two-car team. We'll see.
Paul (Connecticut)
Has there been anything more to a NASCAR drug testing program? I haven't heard much about it lately.
Terry Blount (2:08 PM)
I assume you mean since they announced two weeks ago random drug testing for 2009. A huge step in the right direction.
Jesse (Ohio)
What's up with Tony Stewart?
Terry Blount (2:09 PM)
Nothing new. Trying to finish this year strong and preparing his new team for 2009.
Billy (KY)
Did the world end or was that really Michael Waltrip in the top ten at Dover?
Terry Blount (2:09 PM)
Maybe we should ask Clint Bowyer to comment on that one.
John (NC)
Biff has won two in a row, has there been a 3-peat this year? Thanks
Terry Blount (2:14 PM)
No, but the Busch brothers won four in a row _ Kyle at Sonoma, Kurt at New Hampshire and Kyle at Daytona and Chicago
Larry (NYC)
You gotta feel for Shrub, great regular season and then broken parts and then a broken engine. Do you think he will win again this year?
Terry Blount (2:14 PM)
Absolutely, maybe a couple of times.
Jill (PA)
If you were starting a two-car team, who 2 would you hire; Hamlin, McMurray, Hornish or Almirola?
Terry Blount (2:15 PM)
Hamlin and Almirola
Paul (Connecticut)
Aha! See, that's why I come to you Terry, you keep me informed. I guess I missed that announcment. Not sure how. How prevalent do you think drug use is among drivers?
Terry Blount (2:18 PM)
Not much, but it was naive for NASCAR to thik they could catch people based on reasonable suspicion.
Greg - South Bend, IN.
Hey Terry, I don't understand why AJ is leaving Red Bull Racing, A team clearly on the rise, and now with Jay Frye staying on board. To teams like Ganasis or Petty, Two teams clearly on the down slide?
Terry Blount (2:18 PM)
AJ was let go. He isn't leaving because he wants to leave. But TRB is making room for Scott Speed.
Greg (Champaign, IL)
With so many teens being rushed into the sport (first Logano, now Clausen), are team going to spend even more money to find the next great young driver?
Terry Blount (2:20 PM)
Teams already invest tons of money in developmental deals for teen drivers. You have get to them young a lose them to other team owners.
Savannah, Raleigh, NC
Is the 24 starting to turn the corner with a pole and top 10 run?
Terry Blount (2:20 PM)
Not enough to compete for the title this year.
Kim (Indiana)
Is it possible for the chase to end in a tie? If so, what happens?
Terry Blount (2:21 PM)
If two guys tie in the points, the one with the most wins for the season wins the title. If that's a tie, it's goes to most 2nd-place finishes, etc.
Greg (Champaign, IL)
Will Almendinger go back to Indy Car now after being dropped or will he try ARCA?
Terry Blount (2:21 PM)
It's possible, but I expect him to stay in Cup and get anoffer from another team.
tim (Tx)
How quickly will Tony Stewart take some lumps in realizing how hard it is to be a driver and owner?
Terry Blount (2:22 PM)
I think Tony knows what he's up against, but he putting some good people in place to help him.
Rodney Kansas City, KS
Is this the year Clint finally get's his Kansas win? " The house the Clint built"
Terry Blount (2:23 PM)
He thought he won last year when he crossed the finish line first under caution, but Biffle got the victory in one of the most bizarre endings ever.
Bill (Albany, NY)
Based on some statements Jeff Gordon has recently made and the length of his current contract seems like retirement is coming soon. How many more years do you think he goes? I think 1 or maybe 2.
Terry Blount (2:24 PM)
More than that. Jeff will race another four of five years.
tim (Tx)
Did you see JJ's interview on HBO? I liked how he said that he was the best at knowing what is wrong with the car, not necessarily the best driver ( I am paraphrasing)
Terry Blount (2:25 PM)
I didn't see it, but JJ is very good at explaining to Chad what the cars needs to go faster. And Chad is the best at making the right adjustments to give Jimmie what he wants in the car.
Greg (Champaign, IL)
True or false: Montoya with the right equipment is one of the top 5 drivers in the sport
Terry Blount (2:26 PM)
Not even close. But it could make the Chase if he had top equipment.
Roy, Niles MI
do you see the 43 in victory lane next year?
Terry Blount (2:27 PM)
No, but the real question is can they improve enough to compete for a Chase spot.
Rodney Kansas City, KS
Joey Logano get's his first Cup win at __________ fill in the blank.
Terry Blount (2:28 PM)
Dover next year.
tim (Tx)
If you could start a team with any young driver out in any series, who would you go with? (my 2 cents...I lean towards Hamilton)
Terry Blount (2:29 PM)
I wouldn't pick Hamilton to drive a Cup car. We've seen how hard it is to switch from open wheel to stock cars.
tim (Tx)
Who wins the chase, the world series, the Super Bowl, and the BCS?
Terry Blount (2:30 PM)
Edwards the Chase, the Angels the World Series, the Cowboys the Super Bowl and USC in the BCS
Rodney Kansas City,KS
Terry, are you going to check out Lakeside Speedway this weekend before the races! The best Dirt racing around!
Terry Blount (2:32 PM)
No time for dirt-tracking on my sked this weekend, but I do plan to check out the Hereford House, one of the great steak joints in America.
Alan (Boston, MA)
Enough witih the young guns. If you had to pick one driver over 35 to put on your team right now, who would it be and why?
Terry Blount (2:33 PM)
Tony Stewart. Still one of the best drivers to ever sit in the cockpit.
TG(PA)
Do you think Junior can rebound into the top 5 by the end of the chase?
Terry Blount (2:34 PM)
Maybe, but does that really matter?
Greg (Champaign, IL)
Are open-wheel drivers crazy for giving Nascar a shot?
Terry Blount (2:34 PM)
It's all about the money Greg.
Rodney KC,KS
Jess and Jim's Steak house is way better! Who win's at Kansas on Saturday AND Sunday?
Terry Blount (2:35 PM)
Bowyer on Saturday and Kyle on Sunday.
Eric (Atlanta, GA)
Two races in and bad luck has hit Kyle (twice), Matt and Denny. By the end of the chase, how many drivers have at least one finish of 35th or worse?
Terry Blount (2:36 PM)
Probably five of six of them.
David (Jackson, KY)
Loomis won't go to Stewart-Haas, will he? I think he's a Petty man all the way.
Terry Blount (2:37 PM)
H said he's staying at Petty, but Tony might make him an offer he can't refuse.
Rodney
Does Joey L. make the chase next year?
Terry Blount (2:37 PM)
My guess is he won't, but he'll come close.
kenny supply nc
why are dale jr fans so jealous of kyle busch?
Terry Blount (2:38 PM)
Who said they were?
Eric (Atlanta, GA)
So absent Jimmie, Carl and Greg having one bad finish are we already down to 3 competing for the championship? I don't see anyone else racing their way up.
Terry Blount (2:39 PM)
No. Everyone thought that when the Chase started, but Biffle showed it can change. One of the RCR guys could et hot and make a run at it.
Rodney
Any new's on if the 07 crew is going to follow Clint to the 33? Would be a shame not to have Gill and crew follow Clint.
Terry Blount (2:40 PM)
Bowyer probably will have the same guys, he just won't have the points.
Alan (Boston, MA)
Interesting. Why Stewart over Gordon? Better suited to drive at older age?
Terry Blount (2:40 PM)
I think Stewart is hungrier than Jeff at this point.
Joe (FL)
What has happened to the GEM cars of late? They were very competitive 2 months ago and all of a sudden, they're back to running poorly again.
Terry Blount (2:42 PM)
Kasey usually ig good on the 1.5-mile ovals, and five of those are coming up, so things may improve down the stretch.
Rick (VA)
The points for the 07 won't move to the 33 next year?
Terry Blount (2:44 PM)
It doesn't look like it, which has Clint a little surly, but RCR may try to buy points from another top 35 team. And it may not matter much if only 43 cars show up most weeks.
c-man (ohio)
whos the sleeper for next year?
Terry Blount (2:45 PM)
Brian Vickers
Terrance- NJ
I saw an article about this somewhere, what about NASCAR having a Cup race through the streets of NYC. That would be an awesome event and no track needed.
Terry Blount (2:46 PM)
Not going to happen.
Joe (Troy, NY)
Can you foresee a situation where Johnson or Edwards have a race where they struggle in the remaining eight? Will Biffle be able to be competitive enough at Talladega and Martinsville to stay close to Johnson/Edwards?
Terry Blount (2:47 PM)
Any driver can have a bad race at any time. Biff's team is good enough to stay in this all the way, and he's been the master at Homestead in recent years.
Johnny (CA)
Ragan or Almirola? Who has more potential? It concerns me that Ragan hasn't won a nationwide race yet..
Terry Blount (2:48 PM)
David has a bright future. It's hard to say how good Aric can be because we haven't seen him in great equipment.
Joe (Troy, NY)
Does Biffle have to win another race to win the championship?
Terry Blount (2:49 PM)
No, but he has to keep posting top 5s and avoid a DNF.
Dana(NC)
Any news on DEI? I heard they may lose the Army and Menard as sponsors. They dont seem to run that bad why are all the sponsors leaving.
Terry Blount (2:50 PM)
Sponsors go wherever they think they can get the most exposure and have the best chance for running up front. It isn't personal; it's business.
Steve St. Anthony, MN
Do you see Robby Gordon selling or keeping his team?
Terry Blount (2:51 PM)
He wants to keep it, but running a one-car team, even with satellite support, just doesn't work.
Saul (San Diego)
I don't get this, If true what the TV broadcasters said, Dale Jr had the fastest car in practice. He goes in, then Crew chief decides to make some changes. The car goes flat - If its working why tinker with the car before the race? Leave it alone, lets start racin.
Terry Blount (2:53 PM)
You have to make changes based on weather conditions and how it changes the track. But granted, the 88 teams seems to be making the wrong changes all too often.
Joe (NY)
Will Sam Hornish ever become a good staock car driver?
Terry Blount (2:54 PM)
Yes, is given a good car and a good crew on a good team.
Terrance-NJ
What explains the constant power shifts from one organization to another from year to year and even within a season. A few years ago Rousch was dominate, the Hendrick, this year seemed to be Gibbs and now Rousch again. Why can't one team sustain being dominate for several years?
Terry Blount (2:55 PM)
Because teams constantly make changes to find a little edge. You stick with that for a while, then other teams find something else to get ahead of you. It's a constant game of cat and mouse.
Steve St. Anthony, MN
Back to that question on DEI. Do you think that Teresa made a huge mistake not selling half to Dale Jr.? It seems to me that company would be better served with him running it.
Terry Blount (2:57 PM)
It's hard to say, but DEI might have found it easier to get sponsors if Junior was running the show.
Jimmy (Montreal)
Who do you think has the brightest future in order, Hornish, almirola or ragan?
Terry Blount (2:58 PM)
Ragan, Almirola, Hornish (but his future may be back in Indy car)
TG(PA)
I just meant can Junior still have a shot at the Championship or is he too far down in the points?
Terry Blount (2:59 PM)
He isn't too far back, but he would need to get on a major roll to pass the guys in front of him. Not impossible, but they haven't shown any signs of doing it.
Tony, Vacaville CA
What's the latest on the COT in the NWS?
Terry Blount (2:59 PM)
2010
Rodney
Heard RCR will buy points from DEI for the 33.
Terry Blount (3:00 PM)
Depends on whether DEI finds sponsorship for all it's cars, but I wish NASCAR would put an end to buying points from other teams.
Terry Blount (3:00 PM)
I'm out folks. Have a great week. Peace.
