Chat with Dane Cook

Cook stars opposite Kate Hudson, Jason Biggs and Alec Baldwin in "My Best Friend's Girl," which opens in theaters on Friday.
Cook plays Tank, a perennial bachelor who?s turned his talent for offending and manipulating women into a lucrative side job. And Alexis, played by Hudson, the ideal woman for any marriage-minded man, is tired of monogamous relationships. Romance, and even love, emerges from their unlikely pairing.
Cook has been a stand-up comic for nearly 20 years. He has released four comedy albums. His official website is DaneCook.com.
Send in your questions now and join Cook at 1:30 p.m. ET on Thursday!

Dane will be here soon!
Dane Cook (2:01 PM)
"My Best Friend's Girl" is the movie, I just saw it and it thrills me to talk about this film; as an actor, I think this bridges the gap for me from stand up to acting. I am very excited!
Peter (LA)
Do you prefer going on the road for standup or making movies?
Dane Cook (2:01 PM)
Well my first love, and if it was a woman, I would be checking out comedy, because I love the instant reaction from the crowd. The reaction without any kind of editing, that is still very cool, to me and I love doing it. I would always rather do a comedy tour and be on stage.

Is there a movie you've ever done where you've looked back and said 'Damn, why did I make that film"?
Dane Cook (2:04 PM)
I do not know if I ever said it like that, but I have certainly made some "questionable" movies. The best bad movie I have done was called Simon Sez. It was filmed in Niece, France, and the women were so hot, but I remember being on set saying to myself "I am making a good bad movie. If I have to make one, this is it. I am in a bad movie...but I love it!"

Dane when you read a script what makes you say yes or no to it?
Dane Cook (2:07 PM)
Theere are a lot of factors. It starts with great dialogue, but then it seeps into who wrote it, who's the director. Have other actors read it, that I admire, and want to be affiliated it. But you need to be moved, either emotionally. I will say that I have a stack of movies called the "I will never be caught dead in that movie" stack.

Man, you are awesome. Question for you, do the Rays really have what it takes to get to the series. Are they really this good?
Dane Cook (2:17 PM)
I watched the win the other night in Boston and when they all piled on after the win my reaction was "Act like you've been there before." I think they have a strong team, but when it comes down to it, they may be a bit frayed around the edges. Let's see what happens when we walk into playoff baseball. Go Sox!
Logan (Chicago, IL)
Dane, I used to see you often at the Laugh factory in LA. Those smaller shows were always the best...do you plan on doing small shows again in the future, or are you permanent stadium status?
Dane Cook (2:18 PM)
Doing the stadium and arena tour was what was best served to the material I was doing at the time. Plus, what person on earth would ever say no to that experience? It was something I had to try and I will never forget being on stage in front of all those people. But for the new material, for my new CD, which will be officially announced in the very near future, this new material was all created at the Laugh Factory (that is to say I wrote it there) so it was meant for a smaller venue, and it will air in a smaller venue. So the next tour will not be a stadium tour, although that is not to say I will never do another stadium tour. But I agree with your assessment; often certain material works much better in a more intimate settting.
Karl (Miami)
Besides the Yankee which is your least favorite sports team and why?
Dane Cook (2:19 PM)
Maybe the Dodgers, only because I judge teams based on the team and their fans. I can appreciate the Packers and their fans, and how the team is extended up into the seats. I like that. I have lived in LA for many years, sporting my Boston hat, and Dodgers fans are not as passionate as far as winning and losing if you talk to them about their team
Marty (Penn)
What are the odds the Red Sox win the World Series?
Dane Cook (2:21 PM)
I am not an odds guy, I am a passion guy. I think The Sox are a passionate team who made some great decision, like trading Manny Ramirez. The team is healthy and everyone seems to be very happy to be playing baseball. I am very confident that I will be watching the Sox playing in the World Series and winning it. Not to say that there are not other passionate team out there, but experience is also a big factor. I think the Sox have the talent and determination to get it done
Dane Cook (2:23 PM)
Great questions everyone. Glad I could take some time to chat at ya! I hope everyone enjoys My Best Friend's Girl this weekend. Alec Baldwin one of the funniest guys I ever met, Jason Biggs does not have sex with a pie in this one but is hilarious, Kate Hudson is so hot, and myself batting fourth. Thank you for chatting and enjoy the film!
