Chat with Boris Said!
![]() |
Said, one of auto racing's top road racers, joined ESPN as a studio analyst for ESPN2's NASCAR Now in January 2007.
Said broke into NASCAR racing as a fill-in on road course events, and he quickly established a stellar reputation. He has given advice to more than 25 NASCAR Sprint Cup drivers, including Dale Earnhardt Jr., Carl Edwards, Kasey Kahne and Kevin Harvick, as well as team owners, most notably Jack Roush and Ray Evernham who've asked for help in training their young drivers in the art of road racing.
He has run a limited Sprint Cup schedule the past several seasons and has won poles at Daytona and Infineon Raceway.
Send your questions now and join Said in The Show on Monday at 1:30 p.m. ET!
Buzzmaster (1:26 PM)
We've got Boris!
Evan (Phoenix)
Boris, what's going on with Kyle Busch?
Boris Said (1:27 PM)
Nothing really. The last two weekends were just bad luck. No fault of his own. Mechanical problems. The same things have happened to Carl Edwards, just that they haven't happened in the Chase when it counts.
Neal (Washington)
We have four guys who never won a race this season in the Chase and three guys who did win not in the Chase. If you win, shouldn't you be rewarded with a spot?
Boris Said (1:28 PM)
No. the way the rules are now, that's the format of the Chase. You can't be a one-race wonder and expect to make the chase. You have to be one of hte top teams, just like in football, baseball, to make the playoffs.
Ralph (New Jersey)
Do you think it's a race of who stays the most consistent?
Boris Said (1:28 PM)
Yes and no. You see teams like RCR, their guys are real consistent, but they haven't shown the speed to win. You need a little of both. The speed to win, but also be consistent.
Sandy, FL
What's up for you for 2009?
Boris Said (1:29 PM)
We're just trying to find sponsorship for our team. Talking to a lot of companies. Hopefully we'll be able to run a lot of races next year.
Josh(Butler,TN)
Hey Boris i was wondering do you think Dale Jr still has a shot to win this champonship? And also how about Kyle Busch i don't think he is out of this champonship picture by a long shot.
Boris Said (1:30 PM)
So far, I think it's been a little lackluster. Unless he gets something turned around immediately, I think he's out of the championship.
Dale (Louisville)
Is Kyle out of it?
Boris Said (1:30 PM)
Yeah. He's got a better chance of getting struck by a meteor. It would take a lot of misfortune by our front runners for him to have a chance again.
Tyler(Blacksburg, VA)
Hey Boris, Love the hair!!Where do you see Scott Riggs in 2009? Ive heard Yates, Ganassi, BDR, Petty.. What do you think?
Boris Said (1:31 PM)
I don't have any idea of where he'll end up. He's a really fast driver and he deserves to end up in Sprint Car. I would find it hard to believe that he doesn't find a good ride.
Brett (Cleveland, TN)
Well after a intersting couple weeks of racing tell me who do you think will be the top 5 guys after Homestead?
Boris Said (1:32 PM)
That's a tough call. It's too close to call right now. There's still 8 races to go, that's a long time. I think it's a 3 guy battle.
Charlie (Milwaukee)
Is Jimmie the front runner?
Boris Said (1:33 PM)
Yes. Yes, he's definitely the front runner because he's won two chaces. But the odds of someone winning three in a row it's pretty great. If I were a bettering man, I'd bet on Carl Edwards.
Chris (MD)
how disappointed should Kyle be?
Boris Said (1:34 PM)
I think he's got to be devastated. All year long, he was clearly the front runner. Under the old points system, two bad races wouldn't have hurt him. He saw his chance slip away and now he has to wait until next year.
Will (Oregon)
Is there any chance someone from the middle could come back?
Boris Said (1:35 PM)
Nope. I just don't see anyone else having the speed other than someone from Rousch-Fenway or Hendrick.
becka, va
heard that dinger is being replaced by scott speed true ?
Boris Said (1:35 PM)
There's just rumors. Like everyone else, I've heard that he'll replace Dinger. That's just crazy. I'd keep him. I can't believe Red Bull would let him go.
Evan (Phoenix)
What do you make of Jeff Gordon's runs?
Boris Said (1:36 PM)
I think for Jeff Gordon, he's probably been running mediocre. he's used to winning and running up front. I would think he's a little disappointed.
JG24 (Lincoln)
Where did J. Gordons car go this year? He had a great car last year. He will get a win this year however
Boris Said (1:38 PM)
Last year they ran the old car and this year was the first they ran the COT on the big track. I think he's figuring out what he needs. I wouldn't count him out. He'll be back to his winning ways before long.
Aaron (Florida)
How amazing would a JJ win be?
Boris Said (1:38 PM)
It would be amazing. That's one thing about records, they're made to be broken. It would be an amazing accomplishment if he could do it.
becka,va
me 2. whats your most embarsing moment off/ on the track
Boris Said (1:39 PM)
I started on the poll of a busch race at Watkins Glen one time. I spun out on Turn 1 and finished last. It's hard to pick out just one, I've had a lot of them.
Jill (TX):
What's happened to the GEM cars lately? A few weweks ago, they were contenders eveywhere, lately, theyve really struggled....
Boris Said (1:40 PM)
That's a good qeustion. The last two tracks they've been at have been really technical. This weekend will tell us if they're really just faltered on those two tracks of if we're missing something.
Steve (St. Louis)
Which team has it all together right now?
Boris Said (1:41 PM)
I think you have to look at Rousch-Fenway as the leaders. They seem to run well at every track. But it's close between them, JGR and Hendrick.
Boris Said (1:42 PM)
