Stop on by on Monday starting at 3 p.m. ET for our Monday Night Football chat marathon! We'll have a great pre-game chat, starting with Chris Harris, our fantasy football expert, followed by our guys at Scouts Inc. and Football Outsiders! We'll chat through tonight's game!
Christopher Harris (3:02 PM)
Hi, everyone. Let's get the Monday Night Football festivities cranked up with some fantasy talk for an hour...and let's dive right in....
Steve (NJ)
Hey Chris- Is Lance Moore now the receiver not named Bush to own in New Orleans? Meachem has had big numbers, but seems risky because he only gets a couple catches a game.
Christopher Harris (3:04 PM)
Hi, Steve. Well, Marques Colston is the guy to own; he'll be back in about a month, and should resume his winning ways then. Until then, I'm of the opinion that it's still a jumble. David Patten missed this week's game with a bad groin, but he'll be back soon. Moore benefited this week, but Meachem is on hand, Devery Henderson is still around...basically, I don't think you can count on any of these guys for consistent fantasy production, week to week.
Chris, TX
Drop Donald Driver to get Mohammed or is that a panic move? With byes, have Driver starting in Week 5.
Christopher Harris (3:06 PM)
Hi, Chris. Yeah, I think that would be a panic move. If Aaron Rodgers can't go next week, there's no question that you'd be better off not starting Donald Driver. And Greg Jennings is obviously the man, though he's not going to get to torch Ronde Barber every week, as he did in Week 4. But Driver still gives you a better chance to score than Muhammad does in a given week...plus the Packers get Atlanta in Week 5, which isn't a very difficult matchup.
Tony
hey Chris i have the ravens and the steelers for my fantasy defense which do u think is a better start
Christopher Harris (3:08 PM)
Hi, Tony. First of all: why do you own two fantasy defense? Second of all: trade one of them, because they're good. I know that wasn't really your question, but the fact is: you're going to have to torture yourself all season with this decision unless you do something about it. Because this game is in Pittsburgh and because Joe Flacco is a rookie quarterback, I'd say start the Steelers. But literally, they're my No. 2 fantasy defense of this week, and the Ravens are No. 3.
kc oakland
outlook for Reggie Brown going forward w/ DJ, Baskett, Lewis and Curtis on the team?
Christopher Harris (3:09 PM)
Hi, KC. Well, the outlook is that I see him as the No. 2 guy in Philly, making him a flex option some weeks. I think DeSean Jackson is going to wind up being the man, and Kevin Curtis will go back to his comfortable spot in the slot. I may be wrong about that: maybe the Eagles will put Curtis back outside and put Jackson in the slot -- but the rookie has just been so impressive and can obviously get open on the outside. I wouldn't think that once Brown and Curtis are completely healthy, Baskett or Lewis will have much fantasy run.
Joe O Colonia ,NJ
Chris, with Burress out next week, who is Eli's go to guy...Toomer, Smith or my thinking....Hixon?
Christopher Harris (3:11 PM)
Hi, Joe. Well, I have to be honest that I haven't thought that much about it yet. So I reserve the right to change my mind. But at first blush, I'd have to say that none of those guys has the Burress skill set to be a consistent deep threat. Smith doesn't have the size, Toomer doesn't have the wheels, and Hixon is just raw. I think Hixon *will* make the leap into my top 50 receivers for the week, but I'm probably going to have Toomer as the safest fantasy bet.
Chuck (Austin, Texas)
Who's better fantasy wise? Driver or Desean Jackson?
Christopher Harris (3:12 PM)
That's a mighty good question, Chuck. I don't have a gut-level absolute definite answer for you. If Rodgers is going to be limited by his shoulder, it's going to get easier, but as I just said in a previous answer, Jackson is going to have a lot of company as guys get healthy at receiver for Philly over the next few weeks. My instinct is to still say Driver, because he's a veteran and Jackson may pull a rookie fade later in the year. But I have to admit: it's closer than I ever thought imaginable even a month ago.
Nick (Geneva)
Ryan Grant... too early to be labeled a fantasy bust? Steve Slaton... too early to be labeled a must-start?
Christopher Harris (3:15 PM)
Hi, Nick. Good questions, both. I haven't watched the JAC/HOU tape yet, so all I've seen of Slaton's day are the highlights and his numbers, and obviously his receiving numbers (8 catches, 83 yards and a score) look awesome. If this question is do I have Grant rated higher than Slaton still, the answer's going to have to be yes. I'm in the process of writing The Big Rotowski for tomorrow on the web site, which ranks players at every position from now until the end of the year. Sneak peek: I've already rated the RBs, and I've got Grant at 19 and Slaton at 27. So they're getting closer, but I'm not ready to bench Grant, at least in deeper leagues, just yet. It's close, though.
James (Miami, Flordia)
Santana Moss legit number 1 WR, rest of the year?
Christopher Harris (3:17 PM)
Hi, James. I won't quibble whether he's a top-10 fantasy receiver -- for me, he's close, though he may still come down in that 11 to 15 range (I haven't done that work yet for the Big Rotowski, though check back in on the web site tomorrow). I guess at some point, that's a moot point: the larger story is: for now, he's a must-start every week, no matter the opponent...
Ryan (San Fran)
Are power backs like SJAX and LJ back to form? Or is it it time to sell high (particularly LJ).
Christopher Harris (3:19 PM)
Great question, Ryan. I don't know that too many fantasy owners are going to be ready to give you full value for Jackson yet -- that team is still bloody awful, and a coaching change won't change that fact. But LJ is a more interesting case. I think people might believe he's stirring the echoes a bit, and heck: he might be. He looked very strong in the second half yesterday, though remember, he was doing it against a terrible run defense. The only reason I'd be hesitant about dealing LJ is that he's getting the ball so much. After complaining post-Raiders game, he's gotten 52 carries the last two games. Still, if someone wanted to knock my socks off with an offer for LJ (say, someone wants to give me Drew Brees and Calvin Johnson for LJ and someone...), I'd really have to consider it, provided I had enough RB depth to withstand it.
John, Kansas city
Do you see addai as a top five or top ten rb for the rest of the season?
Christopher Harris (3:20 PM)
Hi, John. I have Addai at No. 6 among running backs for tomorrow's Big Rotowski column, which as I say, gives my opinion on guys from now until the end of the year. Addai hasn't been very good yet, but the Colts' line is going to be healthier soon, and I expect he'll pick it up....
Chris (Saratoga, NY)
Better backup fantasy QB - Garrard or Edwards?
Christopher Harris (3:21 PM)
Hi, Chris. It's sort of six of one, half-dozen of the other. I guess I say Edwards: I have him 14th on my current cheat sheet, with Garrard 15th. What I'd really do to make a decision between those guys is look at your No. 1 QB's bye week, and figure out who between Garrard or Edwards has a better matchup that week....
Chris-CT
Now that Steven Jackson has broken out, who are your top "buy low" RBs?
Christopher Harris (3:23 PM)
Hi, Chris. Yeah, Jackson was my No. 1 buy-low guy last week. Right now, I might be looking at Addai and Jamal Lewis (though Lewis was decent yesterday), and also for depth you could think about Darren McFadden. His toe just isn't right, and he's a supremely talented guy, but of course, Justin Fargas will return, Michael Bush is still there, and there's no guarantee McFadden will have a clear a run at the starting job as he might have. Still, as a No. 3 guy, I like him, and he could probably be had for cheap right now.
Brian (Philly)
Wait, Colston' still out another month? He was diagnosed as 4-6 weeks, he's already been out 3.
Christopher Harris (3:25 PM)
Hi, Brian. All I really know is that the Saints expect to have him back before their Week 9 bye. But how soon before, I'm not sure. I think the four weeks timetable was always optomistic -- lately I've read that Colston's doctors want him in the *cast* for four weeks. I'd love to see him back by Week 6 or 7, but I have a feeling that might be too soon...
Steve (Atlanta)
One week Winslow replacement - V. Davis, G. Olsen, R. Royal or J. Carlson? You're the best analyst Chris, I'd love to have your help!!
Christopher Harris (3:26 PM)
Hi, Steve. Buttering up appreciated but not necessary. Honestly, there are *hundreds* of questions, folks, and I promise I'm going as fast as my little fingers will go. I haven't done my weekly rankings for Week 5, Steve, so I don't have a definitive for you, but off the top of my head, I think I'd take the upside of Vernon Davis. I know he's not getting a lot of looks in the Niners offense, but when he does, they've tended to be downfield. If you're looking for a potentially more consistent effort in Week 5, you might try Carlson.
Marcie (Pittsburgh PA)
Cooley was unimpressive in week 4 should I use him week 5 or pick up carlson against the giants?
Christopher Harris (3:29 PM)
Hi, Marcie. In my opinion, Cooley's an every-week start. The West Coast offense doesn't take as much advantage of the tight end as Al Saunders' system, it's true, but Cooley is still an important part of that offense. I don't trust a rookie tight end enough to start him over a guy I still think is a top-10 talent at his position. I see others are saying they'd have taken Carlson in that TE comparison earlier, and I understand the frustration with Davis. But we have to learn not to get carried away with single weeks. Carlson was terrific in Week 2 (6 catches 78 yards), but remember Week 3 (2 catches 38 yards)? Inconsistency is what I expect...
is this a good try to sell LJ high?
LJ and White for Owens, and Forte ... I still have Sjax, DMC, and Ronnie Brown
Christopher Harris (3:29 PM)
Yeah, I like that deal. Owens should still be elite....
Dave (Lexington, KY)
Chris, with this new injury stuff with Palmer would you drop him for Hasselbeck, Campbell, or Schaub?
Christopher Harris (3:31 PM)
Hi, Dave. I hate to drop a guy who's got such an incredible history, but as I've just written in tomorrow's Big Rotowski, the Cincy reporters are starting to speculate that there's something seriously wrong with Palmer's elbow. To be honest: right now I have Palmer rated below all *three* of those guys, because of this speculation. As I say, I'd hate to drop the guy. If there was a way to find a roster spot somewhere else and pick up Hasselbeck, and just let Palmer ride pine for a week or two while this shakes out, that would be my preference.
Tim (MD)
Start Mendenhaal or Mcgahee tonight? Need 16 points to win
Christopher Harris (3:31 PM)
Hi, Tim. Well, I think it's going to be a challenge to get that many points from either guy, to be honest. I think I might have to try Mendenhall, because McGahee has the eye thing and because he's so clearly in a platoon. But Mendenhall could lose goal-line touches to Carey Davis...
Jake (WI)
good move to drop ronnie brown to pick up chris johnson?
Christopher Harris (3:32 PM)
Hi, Jake. Pretty shallow league, eh? I'd rather own *both* of them, to be honest. I have Brown rated higher, but Johnson should be owned in *all* leagues.
Ryan (Celebration, FL)
Hi Christopher...has Reggie Bush peaked now that Duece is back? Also, did the Cowboys learn their lesson and will they never only run Marion Barber only 8 times in one game?
Christopher Harris (3:34 PM)
Hi, Ryan. Bush's big problem yesterday was seven catches for five yards (or thereabouts...I'm not looking at the numbers at this moment). He's done most of his damage via the air, and now that McAllister is apparently back, he may be going back to that specialty position. That said, it's a darned good position. I still think he's a top-15 option for the rest of the year. As for the Cowboys -- yeah, they got away from the run. That's what happens when you're behind the whole game. Don't blame Jason Garrett; blame the defense. It laid an egg for the second time in four games....
Eric (Fort Collins CO)
Sell high on Favre? I have Campbell and Brees. Also, what do you think of sending Willie Parker and Engram for Steven Jackson?
Christopher Harris (3:35 PM)
Hi, Eric. Yes and yes. Favre won't ever through six TDs again, and for every one of those games, you're going to get one of those awful Monday night affairs from last week. As for that deal: I'd do it. I don't trust that we'll have heard the end of Parker's knee troubles after Week 5.
Luke (Wichita, KS)
Hey Chris, thanks for taking the questions. Any deeper information on Boldin's status. Hear is resting at home fine, but is he likely to miss a few weeks or maybe just the one, or better yet maybe none at all. That guy is a monster!
Christopher Harris (3:36 PM)
Hi, Luke. He is a monster. This is a *total* guess, because I have absolutely no inside knowledge on this, but I'm guessing he misses at least a week. He was *out*. The good news is that he was released from the hospital and flew home with the team, but we've seen enough concussions lately to know how serious they are. The Cardinals "haven't ruled him out" for the Buffalo game, but why would they? They want the Bills to have to prepare for him. We'll know more down the road, but my guess right now is he doesn't go.
Dustin (DC)
Whats your gut on Andre Johnson..time to deal him?
Christopher Harris (3:38 PM)
Hi, Dustin. I don't think so. I know he didn't really partake of yesterday's stats, but that was because the Jags rolled a safety his way nearly every play. You can't really deal him and get fair value now anyway -- I think you have to just ride it out with him.
Andrew (Charlotte)
Is Steve Breaston a viable option as a 3rd WR if Boldin misses time?
Christopher Harris (3:39 PM)
Hi, Andrew. If we can get definitive word that Boldin is out, yeah, that could be an interesting pickup. The Cards were especially pass-heavy because of the huge deficit yesterday, but there's no question they want to fling it regardless, and Breaston would appear to be next in the pecking order. Translation: I'm not buying into yesterday's garbage time stats for Breaston, but I like the way you're thinking.
Christopher Harris (3:41 PM)
I'm going to answer a question that I lost on the list -- about Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers hurt his shoulder against the Bucs and had to come out of the game yesterday, and will probably be listed as questionable for the Atlanta game next week. The Packers have said that they don't think the injury is very serious, and that Rodgers could play depending on how much pain he can tolerate. That doesn't sound great, but until we see him practice later in the week (or *not* practice), you probably can't automatically bench him, because it should be a very sweet matchup. If Matt Flynn starts, I wouldn't use him.
Matt
is it time to deal B. Edwards
Christopher Harris (3:42 PM)
Hi, Matt. Unfortunately, I don't think yesterday's effort, even though it did include a touchdown, will be nearly enough to get Braylon Edwards's value back up to where it needs to be in order to get a fair trade for him. I think you have to just ride it out with him, too.
Perry (Boston)
Hey Christopher. Are you concerned about McFadden? How would you rank him among Julius Jones and Steve Slaton?
Christopher Harris (3:44 PM)
Hi, Perry. I'm concerned short-term. His toe obviously isn't right, and by Sunday, we all pretty much knew he wasn't going to get a starter's carries. And he didn't. However, his upside is so high, his talent so good, and his offensive line pretty stout, and those things make me like McFadden more than Slaton or Jones, though it's getting closer. I'm not definitively saying I'd use McFadden over the other two every week (especially not during the Raiders' bye in Week 5), but as for season prospects, I'm still having McFadden edge out the others.
Tim (IL)
Hey Christopher...Answer this question. The Raiders starting RB in Week 9 will be ___________? Thanks, dude...
Christopher Harris (3:45 PM)
Hi, Tim. I'm going McFadden. The toe is a problem, but I think it's the main thing that would keep him from the job, and that's more than a month from now. Fargas should be back by then (probably sooner), but groins are very tricky and he's not a *great* player. Michael Bush is young and interesting, but no more experienced that McFadden. If Run-DMC can heal the toe without surgery, he's my pick.
MIKE (SAN DIEGO)
Which trade do you like more. KEeper league. I am stacked at WR.TJ Housh straight up for Forte.Housh and Selvin Young for Lee Evans and Chris Johnson
Christopher Harris (3:46 PM)
Hi, Mike. I like the second one better. For the year, I like Johnson quite a bit more than Young, and my opinions of Housh and Evans are getting closer and closer. I think this might be a wise time to divest of one's Bengals if you can still get good value, which this is, because if Carson Palmer's gone, this is going to get ugly with Ryan Fitzpatrick.
Joe (New York)
Is Torry Holt a starting WR in 12-team, 3-WR fantasy formats at this point?
Christopher Harris (3:48 PM)
Hi, Joe. Is Holt a top-36 receiver? Yeah, he has to be. I know the Rams stink, and they're going through massive transitions, but still, he's a good player, and once Bulger gets back in there, I think things will calm down a little. Does that mean I wouldn't think about using someone else depending on matchups? I guess not. But Holt is definitely a top-36 wideout, even now...
Kevin (SF, CA)
What do you think about Josh Reed for next week? Seems to have a favorable matchup next week against an Arizona D that's not very good vs. the pass.
Christopher Harris (3:49 PM)
Hi, Kevin. Reed was a good sleeper pick this week against the Rams, and I think he's still a good sleeper pick next week in Arizona. As you say, with Eric Green potentially hurt and Antrel Rolle getting torched all over the field, the Cards can once again be had via the air. I think you're putting too much stock in Dick Jauron's "airing-it-out" abilities if you make Reed an every-week starter, but as a bye-week sleeper or flex type of guy? Not bad.
Matt (Washington DC)
Chris, do you think Felix Jones is worth a start at the flex this week given his matchup with Cincy. I need to choose between him, Kevin Smith, and S. Young.
Christopher Harris (3:51 PM)
Hi, Matt. The way Jones scored his touchdowns and racked up his yards the first three weeks was, well, a little flukey. After all, some of it was garbage time, some of it was spelling Barber, and some of it was returns. That's not to say Jones isn't immensely talented -- I think he's got more talent than either of the other guys you mention. But opportunity is everyting in fantasy, and it seems to me that Jones doesn't have as much chance, on average, to touch the ball. (Then again, Dallas maybe blows out Cincy, and Jones plays the entire fourth quarter.) Anyway, I haven't done my weekly rankings yet: they come out on Wednesday. But I'm guessing I'll have Jones third among those three guys.
Dave (NYC)
Will Earnest Graham continue to put up viable fantasy stats despite the timeshare this year?
Christopher Harris (3:52 PM)
Hi, Dave. Yeah, I think he will. You're right, Warrick Dunn has really stolen some of Graham's thunder, but Graham did get 20 carries yesterday (Dunn got 16), which is more than enough to help him keep his fantasy value. I'm still pretty high on Graham as a decent RB2 in most fantasy leagues.
Tim (MD)
I thought Mendenhaal was supposed to steal goal line carries from Parker. So why would Davis steal carries from him?
Christopher Harris (3:53 PM)
Hi, Tim. I think the logic would be that the goal line is a pretty rough place, and it's tough for a guy who's got 20 carries to summon up the gumption to get punished like that. I'm not saying it's definitely going to happen, but I've heard rumblings that it's a possibility.
Mike (FL)
Lets get some love for Big Ben...Does his O-Line start protecting him so he can again become a top fantasy QB?
Christopher Harris (3:54 PM)
Hi, Mike. Well, the fact that you asked the question means you know how it's gone so far: that o-line hasn't been very good, and was masked by a couple inferior opponents in Week 1 and (to some extent) Week 2. The Ravens are relentless, and I think Big Ben will have to run for his life some tonight. I wouldn't want to have to rely on a huge game from *any* single offensive player in this contest. These are two nasty defenses.
Kris (texas)
When Kevin Curtis gets back is he a fantasy starter???
Christopher Harris (3:55 PM)
Hi, Kris. The answer to that question really depends on what Philly decides to do with DeSean Jackson. Originally, the plan was to have Jackson in the slot, but he's been so good outside, it's possible Curtis heads back to the slot. I don't see Curtis as a must-start right away, no.
Lee (NY )
Hey Chris, would you use a waiver on Moose or Lance Mooore?
Christopher Harris (3:57 PM)
Hi, Lee. Neither thrills me, I have to admit. I wouldn't give up a high waiver spot for either. But if you have to grab one, I guess I'd rather have Muhammad. He's the clear No. 2 in Carolina, and has a bunch of targets in all Panther games. Moore was awesome this week, but as I said earlier, it's tough to project definite production from any single Saints receiver each week. The only real constant is that *someone* is going to have a big game, because Drew Brees is really dealing right now.
Christopher Harris (3:57 PM)
All right, gang. One more, and then I'm going to turn you over to the capable hands of the rest of the MNF chatters.....
Johnny
With Deuce McAllister arriving at the party last night and Bobby Engram due to be back next week, who will be the better player, in fantasy terms, for the remainder of the season?
Christopher Harris (3:59 PM)
Hi, Johnny. Great question. I have to say that nothing surprised me more in Week 4 than seeing McAllister get so many carries, and be so effective with them. If he stays healthy all year, he'll be the thunder to Reggie Bush's lightning, which is a very valuable role indeed, and should include short-yardage TD situations. The question is: do you think he'll stay healthy? I guess the gutsier pick would be McAllister, because I'd say the upside is higher, but the risk is also way higher because that knee is held together with bailing wire. Norwood had a nice game yesterday, but just doesn't seem likely to be a consistent fantasy contributor.
Christopher Harris (3:59 PM)
All right, everyone. Thanks very much for coming to this chat, and stay tuned, because you've got lots more discussion coming all the way up until game time. Enjoy Monday Night Football tonight! See you next week.
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:07 PM)
Hey everyone!
Ace (Pittsburgh, PA)
Do you think the Colts going to come out on fire, after a last-second loss and a bye week to sit and think about it?
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:09 PM)
I think the team is so well coached that their bye week was probably very valuable to get things fixed. Having Clark and Saturday back will help. But I'm not sure the problems on defense can be fixed right away. They are getting physically dominated and they are not a good tackling team. Without Sanders they don't have that big open field tackler. If they are going to win they have to put up good numbers on offense and hope the defense can play middle of the road football.
Jeremy(Seattle, WA)
Is it time to panic on Thomas Jones, the Jets scored 56 pts and he had none of it?
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:11 PM)
I don't know if it is time to panic. They are just trying to find out their identity. Until Sunday they were a run first team. Now all of a sudden they look like a wide open offense. I think they will settle down soon with good offensive balance. But this team is either going to win or lose on Brett Favre's arm. I don't have a feeling he will put up great numbers but he can be servicable. They have a good OL that has not gelled yet.
Marc (Malden, MA)
All the talk around the Redskins has been Jason Campbell and while he's been good, nobody is talking about the defense, which is really good.
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:14 PM)
The No. 1 thing that sticks out to me is how well they are taking care of the football. They only have 1 turnover in 4 games and Jason Campbell is doing a great job of protecting the ball. Their passing game is short low-risk throws that move the chains. I think this efficiency on offense really helps the defense stay off the field and fresh and it is also a defense that doesn't have to come into the game in bad field position on turnovers. The good play on offense has probably made the defense look a little better than it is but I really like this team right now. What's ironic, in the preseason many of us thought Jim Zorn was in over his head and not really equipped to be a head coach. The Redskins looked to be in total disarray. But now they look like a very organized and well-run team and he looks up to the task at hand.
Chris (Atlanta, GA)
Hey, I'm a Steelers fan w/o access to game tape. Why do you think the Steelers had such a tough time playing against Philly's blitz? Was Ben holding on to the ball to long, or was the coaching staff not doing enough to adjust to it?
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:16 PM)
I think it's a combination of things. I think he is holding the ball too long but I also think part of the problem is he has receivers that don't have great speed with the exception of Holmes. It takes them a little longer to seperate. I also think they are struggling vs. the outside rush and their tackles are not great pass-blockers. What really bothered me vs. PHI was that they never seemed to make adjustments during the game and the Eagles gave them several of the same blitzes. I think it could be even more of a problem tonight because Mendenhall is a rookie and as we all know, the hardest skill for a rookie back to learn is the art of pass protection and blitz pickup. As much as we need to see the Steelers establish the run, if Mendenhall can't help on the blitz, Big Ben is going to take more hits.
Ryan (San Diego)
Can you answer my question, I just had a tough day working for Wall Street. Where do you see the Chargers going after a couple of wins? AFC West favorites again?
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:19 PM)
I think the Chargers are the odds on favorites in the AFC West. They are a lot like the Cowboys that have tremendous talent at key positions but also like the Cowboys, I get the feeling they think they can turn it off and on whenever they want to. I also think they have a mentality that their season doesn't really start until January. While I think both Dallas and San Diego are SB contendors, I think we will see some uneven play throughout the season where they could easily drop a couple games they should have won. If they are healthy come playoff time, they will be tough to beat. Although I'm starting to really like Tennessee.
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
After this past weekend, where do you put Tennessee among your top teams?
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:21 PM)
First of all Steve, I feel badly for you that you have to watch Syracuse football right now. But beyond that, I think Tennessee may not be the most talented team in the NFL, but they are the most physical. The more you watch them on film, the more they grow on you. They have a formula for success that has been proven to be successful which is run the football, play great defense and just ask your QB to manage the game. Because of that philosophy, I'm not sure they will be a team that has a lot of highs and lows. I think they will play very steady and they will be a tough out in the playoffs.
SprungOnSports (Long Island)
Gary, can the Ravens offense do enough tonight to win?
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:23 PM)
This certainly looks like a low-scoring, defensive game to me. Despite all the problems PITT has on offense, I just can't imagine a rookie QB in Flacco having success against this Steelers defense. But I do think BAL may be able to run the ball a little bit. This is a game dominated by the pass rush. Whichever QB has the best protection, which will lead to good 1-on-1 matchups, which leads to 2-3 good passing plays, could be the difference in this game. Take everything else away and Big Ben outplays Flacco. Neither team is explosive on offense right now.
Gina (Cincinnati)
Are Bengals for stuck with losing as long as Mike Brown is the owner and Marvin Lewis is coaching?
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:26 PM)
I don't know you can blame everything on the owner. I'm not totally sure about the coach either. Everybody wants to win. Every organization has smart people within it trying their best. People don't go into the draft trying to screw it up. But they have made some bad decisions and have no team chemistry right now. A lot of their mistakes have come on defense where they have made no progress. I'm beginning to think some teams just have a culture of losing that is hard to overcome. In all fairness, injuries have been a factor as well.
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:27 PM)
The one area you can fault them for is their tendency to bring in guys with questionable character.
Chris (New Jersey)
Is it me or does it seem like the Cowboys are slightly overrated? I have been watching an I honestly think that they are not even the best team in the NFC East. Why are all these sports casters giving them a pass right to the Super Bowl?
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:30 PM)
I didn't until maybe yesterday. I'm not sure it's overrated as much as just not being as mentally tough as we thought. They still have terrific talent and great individual players but I think they are one of those teams that thinks they can dial up a big play whenever they need one. Because of that, I don't think they are conscious enough of avoiding mistakes. When you have that attitude, you are going to play a couple of games where you are not perfect and that will cause you to lose. I think they are still a strong QB contender. Their biggest challenge in January will be to avoid that one playoff game where they make mistakes that cost them.
Pete (Philadelphia)
Is this Sunday's game against Washington Redskins a must win for the Eagles. Can they afford to fall 2 games behind the rest of the NFC East?
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:32 PM)
I think it is an important win but not really a must win. In my opinion, these teams are so balanced, they are going to beat each other up. We may have the best team in the NFL coming out of this division with a record no better than 10-6 or 11-5. I do think it is important to win your home games within the division. From that standpoint it is important for Philly.
Brian(Dallas)
Will Crennel make it through the season? There is no way he coaches next year. Will Savage be following him out the door? They look horrible even during the win against an awful Cincy team. I know injuries play a part, but bad FA moves, bad coaching, bad play calling....someone needs to be accountable considering the talent we do have on the team.
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:36 PM)
Yeah, I don't think there is any chance of a change there. Things could get tight if they are not close to being a playoff team. They have a fairly talented team but we probably overrated them after the 2007 season. I'm not sure they are quite as good as a lot of people thought. However, they are in a division where they should be able to win some games.I expect them to get better, esp. on offense.
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:37 PM)
If you like physical defense then tonight is a game for you. You have two teams that know each other well and there will be a lot of hitting going on. It may not be pretty, but it's old-fashioned football at its best. Talk to you next week!
Buzzmaster (5:22 PM)
Hang in there folks. We're getting Ken.
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:41 PM)
WOW, Let's see what's going on tonight
Max (MD)
So who would you put as the best team in the NFC East right now and I guess that would be the best team in the NFL?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:42 PM)
Max,I would still give it to the Boys but wow it's going to be a dog fight the rest of the season.
Jonathan51293
ravens might not beat the steelers or they will win for any reason it will be a tough match up tonight.
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:43 PM)
Jonathan,This is going to be an outstanding battle - Take the under-
Derrick (L.A.)
Hey Ken, which of these two teams comes out of the AFC north? (assuming Cleavland and Cinn don't turn it around)
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:44 PM)
I still see the Steelers being the team to beat . The Ravens have been playing excellent but I don't see them winning the division , Possible wild card club
Ed( San Diego,CA)
How do you think Peyton performs coming out of the bye?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:46 PM)
Ed,I see him playing well but the rest of the team has to turn it up a notch- The running game has to improve as well as the defense- The Colts give up almost 200 yards per game and Indy only averages 65 yards per contest onthe ground.
Jon (Mobile)
Ken, who's going to have the better career: Tony Romo or Jason Campbell?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:47 PM)
Jon, Two differnent players but I would say that Romo has the better chance when the smoke clears.
Justin (Chicago)
What are the odds the Bears could continue to perform like they did in the first half last night?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:48 PM)
Justin, What a great goal line stand but that won't happen all the time. The offensive line didn't play well but they have decent talent on offense and they can get better.
brandon manning west monroe, NY
what is up with the Eagles not challenging the TD sunday night?not a fan but that was a TD i am sorry!they showed the replay from above and the ball got to the line! nobody even brought this up come on have some guts and say something when they make a bad call! christ saw enough of them this weekend!
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:50 PM)
Brandon, I didn't see it as getting to the line. I'm sure the press box communication was not to challenge it / that's where most of those decisions come from.
BC (Austin, TX)
Should Cowboy fans be concerned about Owens voicing his displeasure in not getting the ball more often?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:51 PM)
BC,I wouldn't worry too much about T.O.- He was throw to alomst twenty times (his area) so he'll get his touches, winning solves everything.
Logan (Texas)
can the Titans defense perform at this level all year
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:52 PM)
Logan,It will be tough to keep it up but they can play at a high level if (BIG IF) they stay healthy , especially Haynesworth.
Bryce (Charleston, SC)
Hey Ken, I hope everything came out all right. Listen, which is the best D to hang onto for the remainder of the season: Green Bay, Seattle, Washington or Tampa?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:53 PM)
I would have said Green Bay but they are so banged up so I'll go with Seattle. They really force the issue and it should be a good contest this weekend vs. the Giants.
Bill (NJ)
Warner or Farve who has more value from here out? I want to trade one of them.
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:54 PM)
Bill , It may sound crazy but I would keep Warner as he has more explosive targets. Just my thoughts!
Mike (North Attleboro, MA)
Ok Ken, I REALLY need help here. I'm in a keeper league. I need help at Quarterback and I have Marshawn Lynch. I'm seriously considering trading my first round pick and 4th round pick next year for Steven Jackson and Jason Campbell. I would keep Jackson, Lynch, and Campbell for next year as well. Is this a smart trade?
Larry (WI)
Is Bart Farve the best quarterback in the AFC East right now?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:59 PM)
I would say it's Favre, Penington than Edwards right now- I know that many Bills fans may not see it that way but until he wins more games in this league it's the way it is.
ray gordon reid biloxi ms 59333
question;s TO KEN AT 6.05 PM HI KEN NUMBER.1 HOW LONG CAN GIANTS STAY IN FIRST PLACE IN NFL EAST QUESTION.2 WHEN WILL LANE KIFFIN GET FIRED IN OAKLAND
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (6:00 PM)
Both of those things may come to an end soon but I would say that Kiffin goes first but both are inevitable.
Brian (Portland)
Kenn, the Seahawks get Branch, Engram, Locklear, and Morris back this week after a rested bye...do you see them upsetting a possible sleeping Giants team in NY?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (6:01 PM)
Brian, That's not a bad thought. It can happen but it's always tough to come all the way across country and play a team like the giants , but it could happen !!
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (6:02 PM)
Fella's it been great and I look forward to visiting again next week. This MNF shoud be a good one !! Later
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:04 PM)
Hey everyone! Let's hear more MNF questions -- looking forward to this week's game.
Tom (Buffalo, NY)
Hey Bill, how will the Bills do if McGee does not play this weekend and the Cardinals have such a good wr group?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:05 PM)
I would guess that the chances of Boldin playing next week are worse than the chances of McGee playing, so they should be better off than they might be otherwise.
Darrell (San Antonio TX)
Someone on the Cowboys staff needs to step up and let T.O. know this is a TEAM GAME!!!
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:06 PM)
You really think he's going to listen now?
Aaron (NY)
Why no love for the Buffalo Bills? They are the best team in the AFC East and tied with the titans as the best team in the AFC, but on here all you experts are treating them like trash...I know the beloved media darling Brady is hurt but come on...
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:07 PM)
Come on. The Bills have beaten the Rams and Raiders the last two weeks. No one doubts that they've been impressive, but saying that they're the best team in the AFC...I wouldn't be prepared to say that.
Rob (RI)
What is the problem with Ryan Grant? They said he isn't injured anymore.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:08 PM)
He's not 100% and he's a boom-or-bust guy who hasn't had too many booms this year. When those guys aren't explosive, they offer almost nothing. Losing Brett Favre also hurts him -- Rodgers has played well, but teams can focus a little more on the run this year.
Jim (Pittsburgh)
How do you think Rookie Rashard Mendenhall will fare in his first NFL start especially the pressure of MNF??
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:09 PM)
Poorly. Mendenhall's a talented guy, but there's no way he has a big game against the Baltimore defense.
Derrick (L.A.)
How do the Steelers protect Ben tonight and get to Flacco at the same time?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:09 PM)
I'd recommend that they don't play their offense and defense at the same time. Or not attack Flacco when he's on the sideline.
Mike (San Diego)
Any chance of this talk of getting rid of Reid and McNabb stops? A top QB and a top coach don't grow on trees!
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:10 PM)
That's the Philadelphia media. I read today that Reid should be fired because they didn't score from the 1 and championship teams get it in from the 1. The best team on scoring from the 1-yard-line since 1999? Atlanta. Philly's fifth. Reid's not the problem.
Roger (Baton Rouge)
Ken, I have a wr/rb slot open tonight and Holmes and McClain available to start. I'm down by 2 and my opponent is finished for the week. I currently have Holmes in there. Is this wise or should I go with Le'Ron? Thanks
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:11 PM)
I think McClain has a short touchdown possibility, but I can't imagine Holmes putting up fewer than two points. He's the safer play.
Aaron (NY)
And they Beat the Jags and the Seahawks...two teams that some picked to go to the super bowl this year...just because the last 2 games they played bad teams doesn't make their wins less impressive...don't blame the soft schedule for your bias
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:12 PM)
Bias? Come on, man. You're asking me to say that the team is better than this team or that team. Their strength of schedule significantly colors that discussion, for the same reason that Michael Turner isn't the best back in the NFL.
rick
how does the ravens score with ptts blitz
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:13 PM)
Pittsburgh doesn't really blitz all that often; they rush five more than almost anyone, but they don't really blitz six or seven all that often. Flacco's going to need to do a great job of locating the blitzers, but I think the Ravens' best bet is to just run up the middle at a Casey Hampton-less line.
Mandie - Toledo
I can see it now - Mendenhall blows Balt and Jax out of the water and Willy sits the rest of the year. Do you see this?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:14 PM)
No. Maybe Jacksonville. But if Rashard Mendenhall averages more than, say, 3.5 yards per attempt against the Ravens, I'd be shocked.
BC (Austin, TX)
Are the Vikings stuck with a proverbial foot in their mouth now that Frerotte has started the same number of games as Tavaris Jackson, yet he has more turnovers and the same number of TDs? At least Jackson has room to grow whereas Frerotte is at the end of his career.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:15 PM)
Very much so. As much as Jackson wasn't the solution, Frerotte isn't really the solution, either. The real logical plan would've been to go get Chad Pennington or another veteran backup in the offseason, one who was actually useful. Now, they're stuck.
Chris Lebron (Staten Island)
Do you think the New York Giants are the best team in the NFC or Even the NFL?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:16 PM)
No. They barely beat Cincinnati and left it too close for St. Louis until a late-game surge. I think they're somewhere around six or seven.
Ryan (Pittsburgh)
A rookie QB making his road debut in Pittsburgh on MNF sounds like a recipe for disaster...so why are the pundits predicting a close one here?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:16 PM)
Because the Steelers are missing their best player. And their starting running back.
Jason (Baltimore)
Coming into the season, did you ever expect this week 4 matchup would be for sole posession of 1st place in the AFC North?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:17 PM)
Absolutely. We predicted that the Ravens would win the AFC North. Still do, actually.
Cas El Paso, TX
If you had to chose a defense in fantasy football for tonight's game, who would you pick: the steelers or the ravens?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:17 PM)
Ravens. They're my fantasy defense, actually. Two touchdowns in two weeks, you know.
Tom (Buffalo, NY)
Do you think Lynch is the kind of guy who would get restless about not getting a ton of carries and going for 100yds every game, or will he just continue to do his roll if they are putting up W's?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:17 PM)
I think as long as the Bills keep it hyphy, Marshawn Lynch will do the same.
Roger (Baton Rouge)
Andre Johnson. KILLING me. I've always been under the impression that he's an every week starter and showed it Week 1. Then he drops 2 TD's last week against the Titans and yesterday was shown up by Kevin Walter. Should I have doubts of his chemistry with Matt Schaub after the promise shown last year?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:18 PM)
He's been really disappointing. I don't think we know enough to say after three games, but I think you can downgrade him at least a little bit. That being said, selling low on him seems like a bad idea.
Brian (New Orleans)
When healthy, are the Saints the best offensive team in the NFL? Especially with a healthy Duece now.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:19 PM)
Not even close to Dallas. Not even close.
Paul (Lorain, OH)
Be brutal with me... do you think the Browns still have a chance to salvage the playoffs this season?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:20 PM)
After the bye, they face the Giants, Redskins, Jags, Ravens, Broncos, and Bills. You really think they can win even three of those games? I honestly don't.
Eric (Boston)
Let's say the Packers play the Bills. Who comes out on top and why?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:21 PM)
Whoever scores the most, because them's the rules.Home team wins.
DJ (Myrtle Beach)
Are the Bills the real deal or should we get the tissue box ready for them like the early 90's? Is Lee Evans worthy of a starting job over Driver or Cotchery? PPR
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:22 PM)
I would call making the Super Bowl four consecutive years the real deal. Evans is definitely worthy of a starting job on almost any fantasy team.
Mike (North Attleboro, MA)
Bill, let me premise this by saying I'm in a keeper league and I need quarterback help. I'm thinking about trading my first and fourth round picks next year for Steven Jackson and Jason Campbell, and I also get a 5th round pick in return. I also have Marshawn Lynch on my team. I'm planning on keeping Jackson, Lynch, and Campbell next year if I accept this trade. The way I see it, I'm not really losing a first round pick next year because I'll have two on my team (Lynch and Jackson). Is this a good trade or is my thinking off here?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:22 PM)
It all depends on the rules of your league, who you can keep...I don't think that's an unreasonable trade, but if you're a great drafter...I wouldn't want to deal my first-round pick.
Jamie (Vegas)
Bill, if you see Matthew Berry in the hallways can you slap him? He said sit Larry Johnson this week
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:25 PM)
Hey, no one's perfect.
Kevin (Denver)
how do you see Mendenhall doing tonight?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:25 PM)
Something like 13 carries for 28 yards. If he's lucky, a one-yard plunge.
brice (ny)
do you think brett favre is the best qb in the afc?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:26 PM)
I'd rather have Cutler or Rivers. Maybe Ben.
Jackie Haelle (Philly)
If we had Donovan last game would we have taken it? Will he back next weekend?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:26 PM)
...You did have Donovan last week.
Clint (shreveport, LA)
Hey Bill. I dont see how you can say the saints arent even close to the cowboys in terms of offense. ESPN has them ranked 3rd behind the boys. Also, Saints have had the boys number for at least 5 yrs. now.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:27 PM)

Carolina
With a 3-1 start, is Carolina the favorite to win the NFC South division?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:28 PM)
Not really. They've only scored ten more points than they've given up; that's a good indicator of future success, and it's third in the division. I think they have a decent shot, but I don't know if I'd call them the favorite. If I had to handicap the race, maybe Tampa wins 35% of the time, Carolina 25% of the time, New Orleans 25% of the time, and Atlanta 15% of the time.
RAYMOND (LITTLE ROCK)
WILL BIG BEN FINISH THE GAME WITH A TARGET ALREADY ON HIS CHEST?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:29 PM)
...Wait, what?
Jimmy carter (Calhoun G.A)
im up 28, my opponent has mcgahee and s. holmes will i win and still have a winning record. please help a ex president out
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:30 PM)
Sure thing. You will win if they don't score 28 points and you will still have a winning record if your record is above .500. These sort of questions are hard to answer -- I mean, anything's possible!
Bruce Wayne (Gotham City)
Is jacksonville finally considered a so-so team with their near loss to Houston and 0-2 start (with a little luck over Indy) Playoff team?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:31 PM)
If they get hot. That defense has taken a step back, and they're in a tough division.
RAYMOND (LITTLE ROCK)
Will big Ben be able to finish with such a target on his chest?.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:32 PM)
Oh. I mean...it's not as if any other starting quarterback doesn't have a target on his chest. He's not 100%, but he should be healthy enough to finish the game unless it's a blowout.
brice (ny)
which team do you think will win the afc east?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:32 PM)
Patriots.
Jon (Mobile)
Who's your quarter-season MVP?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:33 PM)
Jay Cutler.
Dave (Ft Worth, TX)
Bill, Is it me or does Lane Kiffin not have a clue on how to utilize Darren McFadden? He is not a reciever. He runs the football, last time I checked. Or is there something I'm missing?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:34 PM)
I think they want to use McFadden's athletic abilities as much as possible, since he's not a consistent pro runner yet.
Craig
I have Baltimore's and Pittsburgs's Defense, which should i start?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:34 PM)
Baltimore. Definitely.
Johnny Cupcakes (Jamaica)
Robert Royal, Owen Daniels, Heath Miller, which TE of those three FA (or already on my team) should I go with?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:34 PM)
Definitely Owen Daniels.
Gavin (hollywood)
Will your wife stop calling me?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:36 PM)
The existence of my wife is news to me, so it's probably best she call you.
jacob
what channel is it on in arizona?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:36 PM)
ESPN!
Kevin (Denver)
Does Eddie Royal have a real chance at being the ROY?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:37 PM)
I really think so. If Denver keeps throwing..
Eric (Boston)
How is Big Ben going to do tonight? He seemed pretty beat up last week. Can I expect at least 100 YDS and 1 TD?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:37 PM)
Well, yeah. Something like 215/1/1 wouldn't be that unreasonable.
John from Philly, Pa
Eagles currently 2-2, do they make the playoffs? And if so how much noise can they make?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:38 PM)
Our numbers say the Eagles are the third-best team in baseball despite the 2-2 record. I think they make the playoffs and still have at least an outside shot of winning the NFC East.
Jesse (Cleveland, OH)
So I am up by 2.96 pts, I have Heath Miller going, and the other guy has Mendenhall going, am I about to lose? Think Heath will have a decent enough game for me to win?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:38 PM)
You should be good, although I think Miller's going to have to spend a lot of time staying in and blocking.
Ryan (Chicago)
ok... do you think it is possible that Pitt will go undefeated in conference play
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:39 PM)
Possible? Yes. If I had to project the chances of them doing so? Less than 1%.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Went to buy a Bengal jersey yesterday, changed mind - bought paper bag instead!!
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:40 PM)
Ouch. Did you write "Ochocinco" on it, only for the paper bag company to say that they had to get rid of the Johnson paper bags first?
Jeff (Atlanta)
you think Carson is out for a while? News that came out today did not look good.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:40 PM)
It's very suspicious that a NFL quarterback would suddenly develop a sore arm. Very suspicious.
Steven (NJ)
If plaxico was fined 40 to 50 times why would they sign him on a 5 year deal?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:41 PM)
If they hadn't resigned Plaxico and he left as a free agent, what would your reaction have been?
Roger (Baton Rouge)
I'm going to need Miller to put up at least 8 pts tonight and Flacco to stay under 2 (I'm losing by 5 points and this is a VERY deep league). I give myself a 36% chance of winning. What do you think?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:41 PM)
I think, at best, 31.4%.
Cort (IN)
Will the 2008 LJ be remembered as Week 1and2 LJ or Week 3and4 LJ? Will the 2008 Braylon Edwards be remembered at all?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:42 PM)
Closer to the Weeks 1and2 guy, but I still think he ends up around 1200 yards if he stays healthy.
Ken (Wisconsin)
Would you accept Trade Jones-Drew for Ernest Graham?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:43 PM)
No. Why would you want to deal MJD, a guy who splits carries on a 45/55 basis, for Graham, who gets carries on a 75/25 basis?
Marty (Austin)
Who has a better game tonight Mcgahee or Mendenhaal?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:44 PM)
Has to be McGahee.
Robinho
Which receiver would you rather have - Eddie Royal or Bobby Engram?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:44 PM)
In fantasy football, Royal. In real football, Engram.
Jeff (Ocean Isle)
How do you see Pittsburgh adjusting this week? Would it kill them to try a screen pass or dump it to Miller for a quick 5-6 yards?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:45 PM)
The Ravens' linebackers are too good. Their best bet is to go max protect and let Ward and Holmes try and get open downfield on deeper patterns.
Daniel (Baltimore)
Over/under: Flacco throwing 1.5 tds
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:46 PM)
Under. Ravens should come out running.
Jason (Glendale, AZ)
Did someone REALLY ask what channel the game was on or did you just drum that up as a cheap marketing stunt?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:47 PM)
If I was really going to market ESPN...would I really market it on the ESPN website?
alex (baltimore)
not what matters...overall turnover battle is what counts
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:48 PM)
Points are what matters. Turnovers are nice, but inessential. Also, just so you know, guys: Asking your question over and over again is a really good way to make sure I won't answer your question.
Jeff W. (Boston, MA)
Do you think Kyle O. is competent enough to start next season or do we go QB shopping this off season?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:49 PM)
Orton's weird. He *can* make the great throw...he just doesn't very often. I think they have to go QB shopping, although I'm not sure where their significant upgrade is. Leinart, maybe?
Kelly (AZ)
Please inform Jacob that ESPN is channel 33 on Cox cable in Phoenix
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:50 PM)
There you go, from our friendly Cox Cable representative.
OJ (Las Vegas)
Whose the best Bills RB ever?Cookie Gilchrist, me, Thurman, Willis, Lynch (2015)?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:51 PM)
You. Wait -- they have wi-fi in the courtroom?
Adam (AZ)
What do you see Heap doing the rest of the year? Worth giving up #1 waiver priority? I have Carlson.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:51 PM)
He hasn't impressed me so far this year -- I cut him this week for Owen Daniels and didn't regret it. Save your waiver priority for a major injury.
Will (Philly)
I have Lynch, Chris Johnson, Darren McF, and Fred Taylor on my fantasy team, which elite running back could I trade for whose value might be underestimated. I am set at QB and the WRs I could include in a deal are Housh, Cotchery*, and Bowe (also have Owens and Calvin). I want that championship! Please help, long time reader of Football Outsiders-love your work. Thank
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:52 PM)
Addai, I think, has the lowest value amongst elite backs at this point.
Gabe(NC)
Why are you guys being panther haters. How are they equal to no D saints. With jake and smithy back.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:53 PM)
Well, their best offensive lineman is hurt, they don't have a great passing offense, and their defense has been average so far. I mean...they have potential, sure, but so do a lot of teams.
Tom (Buffalo, NY)
Better 4-0 team, Titans or Bills?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:54 PM)
Tennessee.
Steven (NJ)
Who would you rather as you starting Qb Matt Leinart or Vince Young?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:54 PM)
Leinart. He looked better than Young when they both played. You know, back in olden days of yore.
brice (ny)
do you see the jets being a wildcard team?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:56 PM)
Right in the discussion, sure, but it's going to be rough -- if we say that NE/TEN/DEN/BAL win their divisions, that leaves a whole bunch of good teams for two Wild Card spots: Buffalo, Pittsburgh, San Diego, Jacksonville, Indy...no one knows at this point.
Pete (NC)
The Panthers D is average? Have you even watched them? They have kept LT, Forte, Peterson, and Turner all under 100 yds AND have given up the least amount of points in their division. That's a great D in my mind.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:59 PM)
Yeah. LT, Forte, and Peterson all averaged more than four yards a carry. It's not as if they were shutting them down.
Joe
Score prediction tonight?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (7:00 PM)
Let's go Ravens 20, Steelers 13. I'm out -- enjoy Doug!
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:01 PM)
Thanks Bill.. OK, let's talk MNF - big AFC North game, tonight.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Sorry if its been asked but who do like tonight? A somewhat beat Steeler team or the rested Ravens?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:02 PM)
Mike, I like the Steelers, at home. Baltimore is undefeated, but have only played Cleveland and Cincinnati and the Steelers are going to come out with fire in their eyes. They don't want to fall a game behind, in the division and know that they will have time to rest and recover in a couple of weeks, when they have a bye.
Matt(AZ)
Why in the world would we say NE wins the division? You really think Matt Cassell can do the job. How did you get your job because a monkey would give better insight.
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:03 PM)
Who thinks the Pats are going to win it?? I have been calling the Bills the favorite for a couple of weeks, now.
Bryan
Why do people think the Ravens are for real they beat the lowly bengals and browns?
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Doug...assuming Palmer is back and 100% will Chris Henry make any kind of difference in their pass game?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:04 PM)
Mike, first of all he has to come back and keep his nose clean. He has such a history of off the field issues that I just don't trust him to stay out of trouble.. So my answer would be no.
Ed
The Bears would be better off bringing Jim "the punky QB" McMahon back rather than having Kyle O. play.
Terry (Boulder, CO)
Is Pittsburgh-Baltimore the best rivalry outside of Oakland-Seattle?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:05 PM)
Probably a better one than that.. I'd put it up there with the Skins/Cowboys
Ryan
I need a miracle tonight. Who has the better chance at a big game (2 TD's) Hines Ward or Willis McGahee?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:06 PM)
I'd go with Ward.
Steven (NJ)
Do you think Big Ben will get more or less than 2 passing TDs?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:07 PM)
How about 2 to Ward and that's it..
Bill (DC)
Is McGahee going tonight? Is the eye ok?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:08 PM)
I think he's playing. He is such a competitor that if it's close he is playing. This game is simply too big and important.
Rev Von
i think that bens going to get less becuz hes up against the best d in the league
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:09 PM)
Yes, they are the best, but Ward always seems to come up with a big game for Ben in this kind of matchup
Steven (NJ)
Who would you rather on your team T.O. or plaxico?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:10 PM)
Wow, that's a tough one. I'd go with Plaxico - better downfield speed.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Big Ben will throw 2 TD's but one will be to Ed Reed the other way.
Willis McGahee
How many touches do you think I should see tonight?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:11 PM)
25
Sean (LA)
You predicted the Ravens come on put down the crack pipe! The Ravens won't make the playoffs. Flacco is a joke. Steelers in a rout! I am a professional I back up my claims with huge $$$!
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:13 PM)
Sean.. I think you must be drinking too much kool aide.. I predicted the Steelers at the beginning of my chat.
Leron McClain
What about me? A TD?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:14 PM)
Yes, with Hampton out of the game you should score at least once.
CG (LA, CA)
Pick one QB off this list, who would it be and why? JTO, Garrard, or Schaub?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:15 PM)
Schaub.. Less likely to make a mistake and is more accurate than the others..
Kevin ( Lexington, KY)
Since the dolphins wont see a monday night this year, this is my way to get them on the map! how many games will they win this year?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:16 PM)
Six
Kai (Milpitas, CA)
Doug, start McGahee or Holmes tonite?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:17 PM)
McGahee.. He should get a lot of touches, and if Hampton is not playing it will be difficult for th Steelers to shut down B'more's ground game.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
This season has been filled with big time injuries? Does it seem more and more like this season and the playoffs will come down to the survival of the fittest?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:18 PM)
It's almost always about survival of the fittest. Cleveland had very few injuries last year, this year they came back to earth. NYG had very few injuries last year.. Staying healthy is huge (along with depth).
Andrew (Tampa, FL)
How far do you think the bucs will go???
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:19 PM)
Playoffs and win one game. They are good, but don't have a QB that can carry the team past the second round.
Steven (NJ)
Who do you think is the worst undefeated team?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:20 PM)
Tough question, but I'd go with the Ravens.. They haven't beaten a good team, yet.
Mike Shanahan (Denver)
Doug, what should I do to fix my defense?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:21 PM)
Draft good D linemen. You have to be able to take one aspect of an opponent's offense. Teams can both run and pass on you.. You need a major run stopper or a big time pass rusher. (or both)
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
Mike...hire a GM that will find players that are former busts for other teams... I hear Matt Millen is available...
Josh (GB)
Can Aaron Rodgers come back from two poor performances and turn things around for a banged-up Packers team??
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:23 PM)
Yes, he's still learnig how to read coverages and read adjustments after the snap. No way to learn that stuff unless you play on Sundays, not just in practice. He will improve.
Dave (new orleans)
Do you think that LJ is back? based on his performace against Denver yesterday...
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:24 PM)
Hard to say he's back. He is so fragile, emotionally, that I'm afraid he will always be an inconsistent ball carrier.
Tyler (Chicago)
How many sacks should the Steelers defense have?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:25 PM)
One. Baltimore just does not give up sacks easily. Plus they will focus on the run, tonight.
Jeremy (DE)
Are people still over-rating the Jets. They almost needed all 56 points to beat the Cards. The defense still stinks, the running game still stinks, and Brett Farve doesn't put the team over the top. Why is everyone still Jet happy? I just don't see it.
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:26 PM)
Emotional attatchment to Favre.. Everyone wants to root for him (for a good reason).
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
Cedric Benson could run for 100+ against that Denver D...
Thomas
Somebody please tell me that Heap will get some balls passed to him
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:28 PM)
Heap will get some balls passed to him. Actually you'd think he would be a natural security blanket for Flacco, he presents such a big target and has such soft, natural hands..
Patrick (Baltimore)
How is everyone down on Baltimore? We were up 17-3 on the Bengals before they scored a defensive touchdown and the Browns did not move the ball at all against us. We, just like two years ago, are healthy on defense which is the foundation of our success. Big Ravens win tonight!
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:29 PM)
I don't think it's so much being down on the Ravens as being up on the Steelers. Pittsburgh is a legit team and are playing at home.
Steven (NJ)
Do you think this week's bye will affect the Giants against the Seahawks?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:30 PM)
Both teams have a bye and it will have an effect on both of them. Seattle is supposed to get WR's Branch and Engram back.. The G men should handle the Hawks either way..
Cheney, WA
Will desean jackson still start once kevin curtis and reggie brown return
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:32 PM)
I think he will come off the bench, but will see a LOT of action. They may want to rest him, some, so he can stay fresher for returns.
Why does it matter
The steelers will need to Max protect in the passing game which means rookie Mendenhal will have to pick up rushers. I know there is a reason he hasn`t been playing and I think it is more then just his fumbles. How do you think he will do with figuring out which guy to protect and how long will it take before Big Ben is carted off the field tonight ?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:33 PM)
No question the Steelers are struggling when it comes to protecting Big Ben. I think they will respond and Ben is going to have a good game tonight.
Devin (iowa)
The game's about to start. Steelers are 7.5 points favorites. Do I take the points Doug?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:33 PM)
I think it will be closer than that - maybe a three point game.
Otto (CA)
Why those 49ers love Vernon Davis. He ain't got no game skills but blockin. He just a work out wonder like that BC guy few year back.
Otto (CA)
Why do JT O'Sullivan hold onto that ball so long? Is it that Martz offense or is it O'Sullivan? Bellichick eat him up next week.
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:35 PM)
Primarily the Martz system.. He likes to send out all available receivers which means five men blocking, just not enough to protect the QB for any length of time.
Nick (Philadelphia, PA)
who will be the leader of the nfc east at the end of the year?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:36 PM)
I think Dallas is still the best team, in spite of yesterday's game.
Randy (Baltimore)
Anyone who says VD is a workout wonder clearly never saw him play for UMD
Mike (CA)
Do you belive the Chargers Offence and Defence can play the same game?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:37 PM)
(chuckle).. Yes, they went through the same issues last year. They will get on the same page before the season is over.
Steven (NJ)
After the death of his son Matt bryant played a great game yesterday. Do you think the death will effect him later in the season?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:37 PM)
No, not in a negative way. I think he will focus on making it a big year in honor of his son.
Jon (Mobile)
Who's your quarter-season MVP?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:39 PM)
I bit of a shot in the dark, but I like Marcus Stroud. He has made a HUGE difference in Buffalo's defense. Or maybe Haynesworth - he is making the Titans' defense the best (or at least in the top 3-4) in the NFL.
REYSZ
get ready for a dog fight at steeltown but expect big dog steelers to come on top bring he check book vick lol
Roger (Paris, TX)
I need to pick up a defensive player for tonights game. I was thinking R. Lewis or Polamalu, which is the better pick.
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:40 PM)
I'd go with Troy.. I think the Ravens will run the ball a LOT since Hampton is not well..
Joe (DA BURGH)
Doug, With these teams liking to run the ball, Are we in line for the quickest Monday night football game ever? Thanks
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:40 PM)
That's a good prediction.. it could very easily be a new record.
JR
Lewis!!!!! he will for sure get tackles, u never know about troy
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:41 PM)
JR. True, he will get his tackles but I think the Steelers will throw the ball more to try and take him out of the game, some.
Randy (Baltimore)
Does the Bills 2007 draft class (Lynch, Edwards, Posluzny) have a chance to be one of the best in the past decade?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:42 PM)
Yes, it looks like a great draft, at this point. I like all three
Rob (Philly)
Seriously, the rookie McClain has been doing a great job. Who's the better RB tonight - McClain or McGahee?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:43 PM)
McGahee will get the most yards.. McClain will soften up the middle but Willis will break the long runs.
tony, salisbury maryland
doug... do my raiders have a freakin chance this year??? we just cant close.. i believe we have led in each game so far... help :(
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:44 PM)
Nope.. Too much turmoil. With all the questins about the HC situation it's hard to concentrate on football.
max
will big ben make it through the whole season with that line and those upcoming opponents?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:46 PM)
Odds are he will miss some time, somewhere along the way. It's hard for anyone to play all 16 games as a QB, especially when you are taking so many shots..
Randy (Baltimore)
JaMarcus Russell, Brady Quinn, Matt Ryan, Joe Flacco; who will be the best pro?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:46 PM)
Ryan
Harry (MN)
what about my vikings, any shot at the playoffs?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:48 PM)
It's not looking good, at this point. They have to be able to throw the ball now and then.
J0e (Pittsburgh)
Doug, What do you think of Santonio Holmes?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:51 PM)
I think he's a star in the making.. He's still the second guy Ben looks to because of his relationship with Ward but Holmes will get more balls thrown to him.
Kevin (Pitt)
Do you think the Flacco/Roethlisberger comparisons are valid? 13-0 as a rookie is a little far away I would say...
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:52 PM)
Different types. Flacco has a better arm but Ben has more "IT"..
max
do you think the embarrasing loss by the patriots will light a fire under them and lead to a winning streak?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:55 PM)
No, too many tough games in the next nine weeks.. Two games out west, at Indy, Pitt.. They are still good, but not elite. Not a strong enough ground game to compensate for an average QB.
BOB (ALASKA)
WHY are the chiefs such losers
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:56 PM)
Bad drafting.
Bo: Cleveland, Ohio
Who do I play tonight McGahee or Mendenhall? I need a win. Which one has the better chance to score a TD?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:57 PM)
I'd go with McGahee.. Teams just don't score on the ground against the Ravens..
SCOTT
Is Eli for real? Whats your take on him? Can he lead the G-Men to another SB Vitory?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:58 PM)
I think Eli has grown up and is now legit in his own right. Can he lead the Gmen to a SB Victory? Yes, but I don't think it's going to happen this year.
Josh (State College, PA)
Hey Doug, I'm thinking a few max protects with Ward and Holmes on deep patterns, but what about the possibility of also using a pony backfield with Mendenhall and Mewelde Moore with screen options? Thanks!
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (8:00 PM)
The Ravens are not easy to run screens on. Ray Lewis smells those screens out too well.
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (8:00 PM)
Time's up gang.. Thanks for the questions. Enjoy the game tonight. Should have a lot of big hits and defense.
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:01 PM)
Good evening, everybody -- The Steelers are ready to go with their Bumblebee Guy helmets, and the Ravens have their eyes on a texting rookie. Let's talk some Monday Night smashmouth football!
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:01 PM)
Ben
diagnose the main reason that the steelers couldn't block anything last week?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:02 PM)
It's six of one, half a dozen of the other. Weaknesses along the line, and Big Ben holding onto the ball too long. Bad combo.
justin
was larry johnson putting up great numbers this week somewhat of a fluke or do you think he'll go back to his sub-par performances?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:02 PM)
Avoid making any long-term value judgments with a back that rips up the Denver D.
Tim(Baltimore)
Would you rather run it up the gut against Ray Lewis or be waiting for a pass with Ed Reed coming?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:02 PM)
Is there a third option?
chris(philly)
Should I start Holmes or ward tonight? It's a game winning choice.
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:03 PM)
Ward.
Russ (San Diego)
I think the Chargers are going to put up 50 on miami this week. I believe this is the week the chargers put it together for 4 quarters. You can just see the signs... 48 on the jets 25 in a quarter against the raiders 138 points in their first four games avg. 34.5 per GAME. Do you believe this team is ready to explode this week?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:04 PM)
I like Miami's front seven, but yes, they're vulnerable against the pass.
Bill (Altoona, PA)
Hey Doug, I realize most people think the Ravens will be able to run better than the Steelers tonight, but the Steelers D is plenty good enough to make Flacco throw. How bout Troy has one pick, and maybe Farrior, or someone in a nickel package? thanks!
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:05 PM)
Not having Hampton in there is huge. Great test for Flacco, to be sure.
al
can McClain ounch one in tonight?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:06 PM)
I'd say there's a very good certainty. I like what the Ravens are doing with power backfields. They ran some McClain/Lorenzo Neal stuff in the preseason.
Tim (Bflo)
How good is Fred Jackson? It seems he has played a pivotal role in the Bills early season success.
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:06 PM)
He's the best running back in Coe College history!
max
is byron letwitch really the steelers #2 qb? can they win if ben goes down or misses time?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:07 PM)
Yeah -- that's a tough one. Your starter naver bails out, and your backup has a release point that can be timed with a sundial.
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
Ray Lewis has surely lost a step over the years, but he is better positioned now than he was 8+ years ago. He is still a very good linebacker, but no where close to the best. Watch how many times he just jumps on someone being tackled already...
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:08 PM)
I htink it's interesting how older defenders do that (Butkus and Alzado come to mind), but Ray is also one of the smartert defenders in the league. That's where the real value lies at this point.
jcole
How will Mendenhall fare in his first start?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:08 PM)
About as well as any other running back facing this Baltimore defense -- not terribly.
Greg (titusville, Florida)
What do you think about the bucs as a team and what they will do this year?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:09 PM)
Weird QB situation, but I really like they way they've made the defense yonger and maintained the quality. There are offensive issues. They need a franchise QB in there.
Patrick (Baltimore)
Doug, Pittsburgh without question basis their team on smash mouth football. With key losses in the off-season on the offensive front, an injury this week to Hampton which changes their defensive strategy, do you forsee the rookie Joe Flacco leading the Ravens to a big W in Heinz Field by playing Ravens football (ball control, strong special teams, punishing defense)?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:10 PM)
Patrick, if the Ravens win this game, I don't think Flacco will be the reason. He'll be a factor, but the Ravens will want to establish the ground game early on.
Jon, Mobile
Who's your quarter-season MVP?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:10 PM)
Probably Cutler. With that defense, they're in real trouble without their QB.
max
we saw a lot of bad defense yesterday and big scores. even good ds like chicago, philly, and others have looked vulnerbale. do teams like the ravens and steelers have an advantage because of this?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:11 PM)
I htink that Baltimore's defense is probably more consistently dominant, but Polamalu has been out of this world when I've seen him this year. Defense is always an advantage.
Wayne (STL)
It seems ownership in St. Louis made a change for the sake of change...replacing Lineham with Haslett. Is there any hope for the Rams with the current ownership/front office?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:12 PM)
If I'm firing Linehan, I'm packing my own boxes as well. That front office has a lot to answer for with draft and free agency moves. Linehan was part of the problem but he didn't have aa chance to be the solution.
Kevin, Orange county
If you were a betting man who would you take tonight and why?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:13 PM)
Ravens in a close one. With physical games like this, go with the defense you trust a little more.
(Jon) Mad-town
Which rookie rusher do you want long term, Johnson, Forte, or Stewart?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:14 PM)
Probably Johnson. He's so versatile, Stewart is very physical -- you have to worry about that. Forte has a lot of potential, but Johnson is just special. Especially in that offense.
John (Wilmington)
Does Willie Parker's absence determine the outcome of this game?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:14 PM)
No, but Casey Hampton's absence sure looks like a factor.
Jon, Mobile
Would you rather have Tony Romo or Jason Campbell as your QB of the future?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:15 PM)
Ooooh -- good question. Flip a coin and go with Campbell, I suppose.
Robert (Houston)
Cincy is lookin like miami form last year. What is up wit that?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:15 PM)
Why? Do they have aqua stripes now?
lewis illinois
what about holmes tonight?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:16 PM)
A few big plays if his quarterback can stay upright.
Frank (DC)
What are your thoughts on Addai for the remainder of the year? Thinking about making a trade to get him.
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:17 PM)
I don't know -- lotta questions about that line right now.
CeJai
ould there be a worse defense than the broncos right now?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:17 PM)
From a run perspective, I havent seen a defense that bad since the 2006 Colts .Of course, the 2006 Colts won the Super Bowl...
Jay (Brick, NJ)
What about if I have to choose between starting McClain or Ray Rice? I'm down 20 pts...
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:18 PM)
McClain. I think the matchup to watch is the back who can counter Polamalu with power.
John (Wilmington)
Long-term receiver: Eddie Royal or Desean Jackson?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:18 PM)
Royal.
Patrick (Baltimore)
Doug, Joe Flacco will end up being more like what former Raven's quarterback, Trent Dilfer (just wins football games) or fizzle out and eventually turn into a Stoney Case (please don't get me started)?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:19 PM)
A Stoney Case namecheck! Outstanding! I'll say this -- I like how well he sells play action, moves in the pocket better than I thought, and the arm is great. We'll see.
Jon (mad-town)
Can Roethlisberger stay upright? That Eagles D looked pretty human against a sub-par Bears O, and The Ravens D is... The Ravens D.
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:19 PM)
He's going to be doing a lot of running around.
Dan (Los Angeles)
Considering the impact that Chris Chambers has made in San Diego, why are teams still so reluctant to made in-season trades?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:20 PM)
For every Chris Chambers, there is a Deion Branch. The salary cap has had an impact as well.
Jon (Mad-town)
Is Brandon Lloyd showing promise of fulfilling his potential? He's doing very well with mediocre offense.
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:21 PM)
At this point, serviceable has been a step up, and that's what's needed.
Brett (Altoona, PA)
Me and my friend have a bet, if Mendenhall gets 100 yards, he gives me a dollar, if Joe Flacco throws for 200 yards, I give him a dollar. If both happens, the world will probably end. Do you see either of these happening?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:21 PM)
I think you lose a dollar and the world continues to turn.
Erik (chicago)
Is Forte a legit rookie of the year candidate?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:22 PM)
Yes, but that's a LOADED class of running backs.
Scott (san diego)
I'm down 4 points! Who do I start: McClain or McGahee????
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:22 PM)
McClain, but keep in mind that I told everyone to start Sproles over LT2 last week. That's my disclaimer!
Michael(Seattle)
Doug, how do you see Darren McFadden progressing for the rest of the year? It seems like Kiffin has a soft spot for his USC buddy Fargas.
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:23 PM)
Depends on the toe situation. He can do so many things. Inside, outside, direct snaps with zone read plays...outstanding player. That's a great committee they have in Oakland.
Kyle E, age 14
Hey Doug heres a good question? is the passing game a big threat against the arizona defense?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:24 PM)
Against the Jets, the Cardinals had three different 100-yard receivers...and lost. That's a hint that something is wrong with your secondary.
Michael(Seattle)
Doug, is Ronnie Brown going to tear the league up after the bye? Or was it just the Run DMC wildcat formation that got him going?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:25 PM)
Michael, if I remember correctly, Brown had the best DPAR in the league when he was hurt last year. Healthy, he's a threat no matter what formation he's in.
Jon (Mad-town)
Each generation seems to have one menacing middle linebacker, (Butkus, LT, Lewis..etc.) Who is the heir to Lewis's thrown?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:26 PM)
Right now, I'd probably give it to Lofa Tatupu.
Turner (Chicago)
Who's going to win the game tonight? Steelers or Ravens? And what do you think is going to be the determining factor?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:26 PM)
Ravens in a close one. Their run defense will be the difference.
Jon (Mad-town)
Does the NFC West still own the title of worst division in football? It seems the NFC North, AFC East, and AFC North are all trying very hard to catch up to them.
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:28 PM)
Yeah, I think so. The NFC South seems to have made some strides. The West could have a non-winning team take the division.
Jon, Mobile
You'd go with Tatupu over Urlacher? I challenge you to a due-all.
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:28 PM)
I'd go with Tatupu NOW. And in the future. And I'd keep a close eye on Willis in SF and Poz in BUF.
Alex (Massachusetts)
Doug, who should I start at quarterback this week Trent Edwards or Donovan McNabb?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:30 PM)
Washington did a great job against Dallas in coverage last week, and that's who McNabb has. Edwards faces Arizona -- especially if Adrian Wilson can't go, that's a great bet.
Michael(Seattle)
Doug, should the Chiefs stick with Huard? They actually showed some life against the hapless Denver D on Sunday? Croyle just doesn't have it.
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:31 PM)
Herm seems to have a need to prove that he can groom a young quarterback. I'm not sure I understand that school of thought when the talent isn't behind it.
Capital City, MO
Is there anybody in that Denver backfield that merits a start or should I just give up hope on Shannahan ever having a #1 guy again.
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:31 PM)
You still have hope that Shanahan will have a #1 guy? Have you been hanging out with Terrell Davis?
Robert (Houston)
Doug can u tell me the score of the game. sence the hurrican i dont have cable.
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:32 PM)
Robert, hope you and all affected by the hurricane are hanging in there...thoughts are with you. I'd say BAL 16, PIT 13.
max
will bulger be back this week? how can they pay him so much and not use him plus his teamates like him. isnt this as much a business decision as anything?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:33 PM)
Haslett already announced that Bulger's back as the starter, I believe.
Vinnie (W. Long Branch NJ)
Doug, how will the Patriots react to their first regular season loss in over a year?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:34 PM)
The 49ers are an intersting team. Martz offense makes them tough to predict. Miami exposed NE's problems with linebacker speed, that's for sure.
Jon (Mobile)
What are the chances that Vince Young gets his job back when he comes back from injury?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:35 PM)
Somewhere between slim and slimmer. Bad idea to play QB roulette when you have a potentially all-time defense.
Kyle (Cheney, WA)
Would it be a good time to trade(fantasy) desean jackson now that he will probably not be starting?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:35 PM)
Nah -- he'll still get a lot of looks.
Will (Chapel Hill)
Doug, Whats your thoughts on the chiefs this year? any chance they will steal a wild card spot?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:36 PM)
Can't see it. That team seems in need of an Extreme Home Makeover. Great draft this year, though.
Michael(Seattle)
Doug, is Robert Meachem the real deal? He keeps making plays when giving the opportunity. How do you see him going forward? And will he revert back to fantasy irrelevance once Colston comes back?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:37 PM)
thing about Brees is that he's going to throw the ball 600 times, and if you're a playmaker, you'll get the ball. Better Meachem then Devery Henderson and his inconsistency.
Curt
Who is the Ravens starting RB?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:38 PM)
LaWillis McClainagahee.
Andy
anychance those ravens are going to the wildcard
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:38 PM)
Our projections have them winning the division, and I see no reason to drift from that thought.
Ryan (madison, wi)
I need five points from mendenhall tonight. Talk to Tomlin for me? Just a goal line td. I don't care if he doesn't play the rest of the game.
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:39 PM)
"Hey Mike -- give Rashard the rock for Ryan!"Ryan, Mike mumbled something about Bart Scott and walked away from me. Sorry.
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
You like the Titans doug?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:40 PM)
At this point, I think they're the best team in football.
seahawksfan
when will my receivers be back on track
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:40 PM)
Local blogs were showing video of Engram and Branch practicing. Confident about Engram, less so on Branch.
Kenny (detroit, mi)
What level reciever should I logically expect to aquire for Philip Rivers? Is a #1 asking too much??
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:41 PM)
You might be able to pull that one out with the right trade partner.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
We already have one injured player tonight, how many injuries do you think this Ravens-Steelers game will produce?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:42 PM)
I think the over/under on aspirin is higher than I can compute.
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
Doug- do you see Vince Young getting back on the field this year?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:42 PM)
Nope.
Trent ( Fort Wayne, IN )
When is James Hardy going to break out like he did at IU??? I gotta rep my hometown player!
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:43 PM)
Good red zone option, being eight feet tall and all. Could happen.
joe
is matt ryan a pretender? or a future star?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:44 PM)
Future star. Thomas Dimitroff hasn't received enough credit for a greally great draft. Sam Baker (if the cconcussion issue clears up), Ryan, and Curtis Lofton.
CG (Waco)
I'm ready for some football. Who ya got Doug and will we see 25 points combined from both teams?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:44 PM)
Ravens. More than 25, less then 30.
Ray L.A Ca.
And also do you think farve will last the season?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:46 PM)
I think so. Jets fans will just have to adjust to eye-poppingly great and eye-poppingly awful, often in close proximity.
AJ Hawk ( Green Bay, WI )
What do you say we draft my friend James Laurinaitis this coming year Doug?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:47 PM)
I have it on my to-do list to watch him this week. From what I have been told, any team could do a lot worse.
Capital City, MO
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar: (8:31 PM ET ) You still have hope that Shanahan will have a #1 guy? Have you been hanging out with Terrell Davis? Been hanging with Clinton Portis at time too.
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:47 PM)
Yes, but which one? Do you know where Southeast Jerome is?
Concerned Green Bay Fan (WI)
Did Ryan Grant really lose "it" this offseason? Have you seen anything that makes you think he will get back on track this week?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:48 PM)
The Falcons don't have a great run defense, so there's a chance. The Packers couldn't run at the start of last year, either.
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:49 PM)
Thoughts and prayers go out -- that's always tough to see...
Ray in LOS ANGELES
Farve threw for 6 touchdowns yesterday. What do you supposed made this possible? Off. line, his receivers, the ability to run the ball? OR all the above.
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:50 PM)
Arizona's secondary didn't hurt.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
I'm confused by Green Bays move of putting Flynn above Brohm on the depth chart. Especially when Brohm was a projected a 1st round draft pick a few years ago. Is Flynn really better than Brohm?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:51 PM)
You know, that confounded me as well. I like that coaching staff and front office -- if they like what they swee in Flynn better, I'd be far more inclined to trust it than with some other teams.
Vinnie (W. Long Branch, NJ)
Will the Dolphins make a little run with a win under their belt?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:52 PM)
They're going to be feisty this year. An interesting spoiler down the stretch, perhaps.
EaglesFan
Westbrook has neverplayed an entire season. Is this injury the first of many to come or will he return better than ever?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:53 PM)
He needs to be used in moderation, but he's the single best weapon in the NFL, in my opinion.
Vinnie (W. Long Branch, NJ)
Is Parcels going to make a difference for the Dolphins?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:54 PM)
He'll do what he's done for every team he's run -- instill toughness, discipline, and the will to win. Guys who don't buy in will find themselves on the outs very quickly.
max
what do you make of the cowboys loss is it a big deal or not?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:55 PM)
every loss is a big deal in that division. It exposed defincincies in their secondary and I was surprised at how well Washington's defense kept that offense in check when they weren't playing quarters coverage.
George (Nashville)
Titans are at the Ravens next week. Assuming Collins continues to limit his mistakes, will Tennessee go to 5-0?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:56 PM)
Yes. The Titans are really impressive.
max
felix jones had 0 carries was that a good move considering his explosiveness?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:58 PM)
What I heard was that Romo was audibling to pass plays at certain times. Not sure about that gameplan. Jones is a defense-altering threat.
brandon
who in your opinion is the best defense in the NFL?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:58 PM)
You'll see the two best next week: TEN-BAL
Tyler
How far can the Steelers really go with their issues at the O-line positions? Can the skill players and the defense carry this team to a Super Bowl?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:59 PM)
So tough to win a championship without a great offensive line. Good team but I don't see it.
JD - Reston, VA
Hey, It was definitely a good week for football, but there was also a lot of hard hitting going on with injuries, including tonight. Is the NFL slacking on regulating how a player is tackled? I saw a lot of helmmut to helmut tackling which is dangerous. Am I the only one thinking is way?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (9:00 PM)
The league is going to crack down on that, but with that, expect to see some interesting ticky-tack calls as well. Line Hochuli's shoulder-to-head hit...
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (9:00 PM)
Thanks for the great questions, everyone -- time to hand it over to you and your Buzzmaster. Keep an eye out for Football Outsiders content on ESPN.com, as well as our work on Footballoutsiders.com. God bless!
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (9:00 PM)
Buzzmaster (9:01 PM)
Thanks. Doug. And now it's in your hands for the rest of the night, SportsNation.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Hello Buzzmaster.
Buzzmaster (9:02 PM)
How great is it that we've already had our first Tim Worley graphic in the game? Forget the uniforms; that's a throwback.
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
The Baltimore defense doesnt look that good right now...
Buzzmaster (9:02 PM)
As the Steelers put in the field goal to claim a 3-0 lead.
Jeff (Pittsburgh)
Jeff Reed is the most underrated kickier in the league.
CG (Waco)
So are we gonna see any 70+ yard FG attempts? I still can't believe someone tried it yesterday.
Buzzmaster (9:04 PM)
By the way, speaking of kickers, if you haven't read ''A Few Seconds of Panic'' by Stefan Fatsis, check it out. Great football read.
swish (detroit rock city)
It's funny....I dislike the Steelers sorely cause my ex girlfriend from 7 years ago loved them.
Buzzmaster (9:04 PM)
Anyway ... So which team has more to prove in this game? The unbeaten Ravens or the Steelers after last week's struggle?
JR
ravens do, both teams we beat were 0-3.....
Pete (NC)
Jeff Reed is a Tar Heel, hence his greatness.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Raven's Flacco. Still not sold on him. He needs to show me more. Steeler's O-line, Big Ben won't be worth all that money they pay him if he isn't protected.
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
Ahhh Buzzmaster, back to the real talk and not just fantasy football questions!
Buzzmaster (9:06 PM)
Not that there's anything wrong with that.
CG (Waco)
Ravens have more to prove this week and next week that they are for real.
Neil D. (Lake Orion, MI)
Steelers. They need to rebound after that loss against Philly last week.
James (Delaware)
Baltimore has a ton more to prove...they have beaten two of the worse teams in the league. They might have been division games...but they stink. Pittsburgh is still the team to beat in that conference. They still had a decent game against the Eagles
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
I think the Ravens have more to prove---are they contenders or pretenders...
Pete (NC)
Buzz doesn't every team have as much to prove as the other every game? I mean they both want to win.
Buzzmaster (9:07 PM)
Oh no you don't. This is an existential-free zone.
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
I am so sick of going into NFL chats and having it dominated by FF talk...I play fantasy football and all---but jeesh, I want to talk football...not what third string RB will get more points...
Ryan (Atlanta)
Ravens: they've had an easy schedule, Steelers just need to prove that their OL can hold up on a 4 man pass rush
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
Eh, only irrational Ravens fans think a Rookie QB will lead them to the Super Bowl. The Steelers are supposed to be one of the top teams in the NFL...
Mike (Lexington, KY)
probably the ravens...they only beat the clowns and bengals and have a rookie QB that has been OK but not great
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Flacco just showed me that arm!
Buzzmaster (9:09 PM)
Not blocking the blindside DE is not a good way to develop a rookie QB. See, I can do football analysis, too!
Derek (Los Angeles, CA)
"This is an existential-free zone. "So does that mean, by extension, that it's a cliche-riddled zone? Personally, I'd rather have the existential...
Buzzmaster (9:09 PM)
It's also an extension-free zone. Sorry.
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
look, if kerry collins can be the QB of maybe the best team in the NFL, can't anything happen?
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
They are all men buzz! They all need to win this game! They are in their 20's and 30's!
Ryan (Atlanta)
i'm sorry, i'm with robert: Flacco won't lead them past the 1st round of the playoffs if they are for real
Patrick (Baltimore)
Buzzmaster, thanks for the Captain Obvious anaylsis
Buzzmaster (9:10 PM)
That's sort of redundant.
James (delaware)
I think if the special teams can give flacco a little bit of space and not be backed into his own end zone, he might do a little bit better
Ken (Richmond, VA)
Flacco doesn't look ready to start. Why didn't Baltimore find a veteran so Flacco could sit for a while?
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
Yeah, cause Arm Strength is so important in the NFL. Jeff George is the greatest QB ever because of his arm strength...wait, no, I'm sorry, Ryan Leaf is the best because of his arm strength! Or wait, is is Kyle Boller???
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
next, i want joe flacco to fess up that delaware blue hens don't really exist.
Paul (Lorain, OH)
I don't like both the teams playing tonight.. But it should still be a good game.
Buzzmaster (9:11 PM)
Wow, at least Flacco didn't do that.
Buzzmaster (9:12 PM)
Who the heck was he throwing to?
Paul (Lorain, OH)
WHAT was that?!?!
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
Big Ben is so overrated...
Ken (Richmond, VA)
What in the heck was Ben doing there?
Patrick (Baltimore)
Robert, you have no idea about Kyle Boller. He once threw from one knee from the 50 yard line through the uprights. Quote from Bryan Leftwich in the same draft, "Last time I checked, football is played on two feet." Too bad Kyle could not find a league to show off his useless skills.
James (delaware)
wow...that might give flacco the start he needs
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
Ben rode the Bus to the championship...and because of it he got alot of hype. I havent seen a whole lot of anything once the bus left...
Neil D. (Lake Orion, MI)
Calm down, guys... everyone makes mistakes, and remember, he's better than Jon Kitna.
Buzzmaster (9:14 PM)
This might be a bad time to ask, but which guy would you want to build around from that 04 class? E. Manning, Rivers or Roethlisberger?
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Ben threw for 30+ TDs last season, and he's overrated?
Paul (Lorain, OH)
Honestly I don't like the Steelers as a Browns fan, but he deserves his respect. Not great fantasy numbers, but he wins games. Also, he did have that motorcycle crash..
p
I'm better than Kitna
James (delaware)
Big Ben not showing anything...besides manning and brady (not this year) not too many people are better than him
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
Rivers by far Buzz. He can make plays...something that I havent seen Ben do. Manning is decent, but I think Phil has the most upside.
Buzzmaster (9:15 PM)
But he's also the one without a ring.
Ken (Richmond, VA)
Right now, Rivers which is funny considering he's the only one of the three without a ring.
Pete (NC)
Buzz, you ask this question every week. The answer is obviously Manning.
Ryan (Atlanta)
Big Ben, defanitleyhe's the best of the three
Buzzmaster (9:16 PM)
Tell that to Pete.
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
Wow, that's a good question Buzz. If you were talking at this point right now I'd have to say Rivers. But you can't argue what Ben and Eli have done. Even as much as I hate saying that cause I still don't think Eli is good...
Patrick (Baltimore)
Without question....I can not name one of them. Do I really have to choose one?
Buzzmaster (9:16 PM)
Well. you could have J.P. Losman ...
Ken (Richmond, VA)
Rivers has LT but right now he looks like the only one of the three that could win a game by himself if he had to.
Neil D. (Lake Orion, MI)
I bet Buzz is better than Kitna. Hear that, Ford? WE GOT SOMEONE!
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
Eli Manning, not even close. BTW, do you happen to remember a JP Losman interview after that draft, where he was kinda insulted for being drafted so low and proclaimed he was easily the best QB in that draft?
Zach Rastall (Marinette, WI)
Roethlisberger has great potential, and he gets the wins he needs to, which counts more than anything.
Paul (Lorain, OH)
So.. Flacco is pretty good.
Raymond LA CALI>
If John Madden was coaching again wouldnt that be cool!!!
Buzzmaster (9:18 PM)
Um ... I'm going to go with no?
Ryan (Atlanta)
defanitely not Eli: he should come back down to earth any time now. Rivers has a great RB in LT and a good Defense. Ben's been the most consistent, and was able to lead Pit to 15-1 in his rookie season, and the super bowl the next year
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Don't rag on John Paul Losman, he got benched in favor of Trent Edwards - he's had it hard enough already.
Patrick (Baltimore)
JP Losman...the most legit prospect out of Tulane possibly forever. Good choice Bills.
Buzzmaster (9:18 PM)
He's no Shaun King.
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
New Eli is on his way to the 2009 MVP.
Ken (Richmond, VA)
The less Ben throws, the better he and the Steelers are. Eli is at his best when the running game is going great and he can use the play action. Rivers is the only one I would trust in a shootout.
Zach Rastall (Marinette, WI)
In all seriousness I'd like to have Brett Favre.
Buzzmaster (9:19 PM)
Meanwhile, Ravens slowly driving off the interception. Inside the 20.
Ryan (Atlanta, GA)
in all seriousness i'd like to have Tom Brady, even with the torn ACL
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
Ben didnt lead Pitt to the 15-1 record...he threw the ball 13-15 times a game! It was Bus who he rode to 15-1....
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
Here's the problem with Big Ben. When he throws 25 or more passes, his record is horrible. To me, that means that when he needs to put the team on his shoulders, he can't. He can manage, but he can't will a team to win like easy e can.
CG (Waco)
I would take Big Ben. Not many rookies can go to the big game and win it. You can make stats to argue againist it but he had the one stat that mattered: wins.
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
Yeah, I'd take Shaun King against JP. I still think he got the shaft in Tampa...
Bmore in SanFrancisco
Talk about the Ravens also please buzzmaster
Buzzmaster (9:21 PM)
They just hit a field goal to tie. Happy?
Neil D. (Lake Orion, MI)
Ravens win this, and begin to slowly take control of the AFC North. That's my call.
Raymond LA CALI>
Yuo know Brett's old, but hes still damn good. I wish my team had him>
Pete (NC)
I don't understand the dissing of Manning. He is the only QB to beat Brady last year! He hasn't lost this year. Rivers has lost twice and Big Ben is just not good this year.
Patrick (Baltimore)
Buzz, isn't that an oxymoron...the Ravens inside the Red Zone? We might as well kick the field goal now.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Flacco is looking more and more confident.
Patrick (Baltimore)
Pete, Manning did not beat Tom Brady. The defense beat Tom Brady. If Eli can line up like those lineman they had last year, please let me know.
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
Ray Lewis is the best LB ever at being the 2nd defensive player to the ball carrier and getting creditied with the tackle! There, thats some Baltimore talk for you...
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
Rivers hasnt really lost a game though. He has thrown for 3 TDs in all his previous games up until this last one and was able to drive for the winning scores to lead SD back against DA RAIDAS....I like River's moxy.
Jon
Did anyone hear something about pittsburgh player having a spinal injury? i have a bet goin on with this guy watching the game with me
Buzzmaster (9:24 PM)
You have a bet? Congratulations, we've found the lowest form of humanity on the planet! Competition over.
Raymond LA CALI>
You would be confident to if you had an offensive line like flacco has.
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
Yeah, Rivers was terrible playing safety allowing Carolina and Denver to score on those last plays....
Jay (NY)
If David Tyree didn't accidentally drop his helmet in glue, we wouldn't be talking about Eli right now.
Neil D. (Lake Orion, MI)
Pfft. Buzz, look into getting the Lions to play on MNF next year. These people will see how good the teams we're watching are.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
3-3 we got a barn burner...finally a defensive game
Buzzmaster (9:25 PM)
And that's the end of the first quarter, 3-3.
Patrick (Baltimore)
I second that notion for the lowest form of humanity. All hail Jon, I hope you win that bet.
Alex
Starting rivers over brees for my team was a mistake this week though
Pete (NC)
Here we go again with the QB didnt play D. Then don't say Big Ben went 15-1 because all he did was play offense. Manning stopped Brady with the ridiculous throw to Tyree and then the TD to Plax.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Jay, stickum hasn't been allowed since the 80s.
Jay (NY)
Did Jon just take a Buzz chat to a new low? I think he did....amazing. He just busted through the glass floor.
Raymond LA CALI>
Buzz do you think tonights game will low scoring or what ?
Buzzmaster (9:26 PM)
Well, the Cardinals and Jets were scoreless through one yesterday. But ... yes.
Conn
anyone else thought that pass by flacco was a td?
Ryan (Atlanta, GA)
lol>> Brett's got 6 more TDs!
Mike (Lexington, KY)
no he didn;t have control when he hit the ground
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Yes. Too bad Flacco had to follow it up with that almost intercepted throw.
Patrick (Baltimore)
No, it was not a TD. The Ravens do not score Touch Downs in the Red Zone. Enter Matt Stover.
DAVE
Yea, it looked good to me...
steve
absolutely a td, with control
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Battle of punters.
Buzzmaster (9:29 PM)
Where is our punter analysis? That guys is letting us down this season.
Paul (Canada)
Conn, I agree thought it was a TD, should have challenged
Buzzmaster (9:29 PM)
Ravens not helping Flacco with the personal foul on the punt return.
Patrick (Baltimore)
Awesome, Yamon Figurs is a liability. Can we bring back Jermaine Lewis?
swish (detroit rock city)
I think the Steelers might have the best throwbacks. There's something about bumblebee colors.....
Buzzmaster (9:30 PM)
These look a lot like the Jets yesterday. I'll still take the Chargers in the powder blue as the best throwback.
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
Punter analysis? I remember taking a shot everytime someone punted, but I don't remember any analyzing going on. Except for how intoxicated I was...
Patrick (Baltimore)
Bumblebee Colors...I feel like I am watching a 3 hour Blind Melon video.
Buzzmaster (9:31 PM)
I'm waiting for the first team to go truly authentic and use throwback helmets.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Why don't the Buc's wear their throwbacks? They were so awesome!
swish (detroit rock city)
I'm just happy the Lions are going with their old school throwbacks rather than the ugly black jerseys this year.
Jay (NY)
Patrick beat me to it! Too slow tonight.
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
When I watched the Jets game yesterday I thought it was the Rams playing the Cardinals...I was thinking...man warner is playin his old team?
Derrick (Los Angeles)
Would the Baltimore throwbacks be the old Browns unis?
Patrick (Baltimore)
No, it would be our uniforms from the 1996 season. Don't ask Derrick.
Zach Rastall (Marinette, WI)
Buzz, watch it!
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
Would the Titans throwbacks be the old Oilers jerseys?
Buzzmaster (9:34 PM)
Flacco threw that one up for grabs, lucky it wasn't picked.
Buzzmaster (9:34 PM)
Right fielder should have called him off on that one.
Jay (NY)
Would a Jets throwback really be a glider?
Buzzmaster (9:35 PM)
Groan-inducing, Jay. Solid work.
Patrick (Baltimore)
Sweet, we have 52 yards right now. Am I watching the Ravens offense of old with Bam Morris and Jim Harbaugh?
Ken (Richmond, VA)
Screens against these two defenses are idiotic. Bad play call by Cam Cameron.
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
Anyone else notice that the Titans have worn their alternate jerseys like every game this year?
Buzzmaster (9:36 PM)
Good punt pins the Steelers inside the 10.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
good punt
Zach Rastall (Marinette, WI)
This chat is brought to you by tough-actin' Tinactin. BOOM!
ravinly
whats the score of the game
Buzzmaster (9:36 PM)
3-3
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Cam Cameron loves calling screen passes. As a Dolphin fan I had to watch him dink and dunk the Fins to failure last year.
swish (detroit rock city)
Heck of a punt!
Buzzmaster (9:36 PM)
We're praising the punters. It's that kind of night.
Neil D. (Lake Orion, MI)
Can you believe this -- The Lions have been an organization for 75 years. In that span, they've had 51 years of absolute suck, leaving only 24 years of decency. Pretty sad.
Buzzmaster (9:37 PM)
Not exactly relevant. But we make allowances for Lions fans. They aren't going to get their own night in here.
Patrick (Baltimore)
Praise has to go somewhere, and well right now the player of the game is Cook, the Ravens punter. Any one wish to beg to differ?
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
Another punt, another shot down! I'm the wildcard! YEEEEHAAAWWW!
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Yah, Neil. Even the Falcons went to the Superbowl after all there years of miserability. Same with the Bengals.
Patrick (Baltimore)
Neil, you had Barry Sanders! What about the Bengals? They have had the likes of Jeff Blake and Carl Pickens! Barry Sanders > Carl Pickens
Neil D. (Lake Orion, MI)
Hooray for irrelevance!
swish (detroit rock city)
I was at the last Lions MNF game.....which was like 12 years ago.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
the "wildcard"....a sunny in philly reference...nice
Terry (Oakland, CA)
Allllrighty then...Shane Lechler's finally gonna have to compete for a Pro Bowl Slot...
Buzzmaster (9:40 PM)
Wow, not sure that was the wisest throw, but a heck of a move to get it away by Big Ben.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
These QB's are getting battered
overbored
Judging by what u guys mention id rather read your msgs than go to the bar and watch the game
Buzzmaster (9:40 PM)
It's also easier to get served in here.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Big Ben is not going to last the season getting hit like that.
Patrick (Baltimore)
Bryan Leftwich sighting.
Noel (Ok)
yea. it was a throw it or die situation
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
Ok...this punting has to stop...for the love of my liver!!!
Pete (NC)
Commercial. Time for some carrot cake.
Buzzmaster (9:41 PM)
Yes, don't step away during the action. You might miss a punt.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Byron. Even Leftwich doesn't get any respect.
Chris
Baltimore and Pittsburgh is almost always this way
Buzzmaster (9:43 PM)
Good thing the Orioles and Pirates don't play regularly.
Zach Rastall (Marinette, WI)
Can't miss a minute of this puntastic game!
Vinnie (NYC)
Robert, you live in a small town in Alabama... your liver is doomed no matter how this game goes.
Walker (Houston, TX)
I'd prefer for the Titans to not wear the Oilers jerseys! When we got a team back in '02 we wanted them to be the Oilers but Bud Adams wouldn't give up the copyright!!!
Andrew California
guarenteed touchdown to mark clayton on this drive
Buzzmaster (9:44 PM)
Andrew formerly worked for Lehman Brothers.
Patrick (Baltimore)
Brendan, thanks for the spell check. I put my message in Microsoft Word before I put in my message and it returned an error.
Jason(Baltimore)
Steelers fan, Ravens fan. You have to admit this is a great rivalry.
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
Hey now, Huntsville is one of the most technological cities in the enti....nevermind...you are right Vinnie...
Pete (NC)
I like this game. I need the Pitt D to score more than Heath Miller. Keep punting!
Patrick (Baltimore)
Buzz, please leave any and all Orioles comments for another chat session. We have not been above .500 since we signed Albert Belle, Marty Cordova...please.
Buzzmaster (9:45 PM)
Scott Kamieniecki!
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
yeesh, nice cheapshot there Buzz...I like it. As you know, I'm all about cheap shots...
Terry (Oakland, CA)
Ahhh, yes....offense gets offensive, and Punting wins battles of boredom....
Billy (Hillsboro, OR)
here's the play guys...throw the ball out of bounds and let's punt it again!
b-ness
beer. football. wife mad. how much better can it get?
Buzzmaster (9:47 PM)
Your beer and your football are mad? Bummer.
Jason(Baltimore, MD)
Glenn Davis
swish (detroit rock city)
I want a Haywood Jeffries Houston Oilers throwback.
Pete (NC)
Baltimore stays unbeaten....with a 3-3 tie.
Jay (NY)
beer. football. no wife. that's how.
Billy (Hillsboro, OR)
it's the american dream b-ness, you're living it...
Buzzmaster (9:48 PM)
And the Ravens are in the red zone ...
Mike (Lexington, KY)
i guess the screen pass can work
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
wow a first down...SHOCKING
canvasking (Frisco, CA)
if the ravens win this and stop the titans at home next week, there's no saying what they're capable of the rest of the season
Buzzmaster (9:48 PM)
And if they're 15-0, there's no telling what they're capable of in Week 17.
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
YES! A FIRST DOWN! I may make it to work tomorrow after all!
Patrick (Baltimore)
Goodness, we are in the red zone. Matt Stover better get warmed up.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
I think ties count as half a win and half a loss.
Pete (NC)
Mike, screens don't work on 3 and 12. Just ask the Panthers.
Zach Rastall (Marinette, WI)
Punting wins championships.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Wouldn't it be more interesting if the Ravens kept winning with with flacco throwing only ints for the rest of the season?
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
WOW ANOTHER ONE...They are going for 6!!!! PLUS a penalty!
Mike (Lexington, KY)
nice stiff arm
Patrick (Baltimore)
If screens work to the RB, why not to the WR? Flacco has 96 yards passing, of those, the ball may have traveled 15 yards.
Jason(Baltimore, MD)
The best thing about the Ravens is nobody knows anything about them. Aside from their defense. The coaching all the way down is unpredictable. That makes them dangerous or..........
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Ed Hoculi would have called it a face mask.
Al (Canton, OH)
Flacco stinks
Neil D. (Lake Orion, MI)
I'm gonna start watching Rambo. Better than puntfest.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
..... or?
Matt (Pittsburgh, PA)
The Steelers are the better team, the defense is losing the game for them
Buzzmaster (9:52 PM)
It's 3-3!
Jason(Baltimore, MD)
How does Flacco stink? He is a rookie and is handling himself very calmly
Billy (Hillsboro, OR)
my money is on the drive stalling around the five or so...get out the field goal unit!
Patrick (Baltimore)
...or we may kick a field goal?
Ken (Richmond, VA)
Didn't ESPN know what type of game this would be? Why in the world did they choose this for MNF? Did they want to put everyone to sleep early?
Rich
Just wanted to see if Raven fans are still Whacko for Flacco?
Buzzmaster (9:53 PM)
And the always popular 19-yard field goal coming ...
Jason(Baltimore, MD)
Yeah Matt, the defense threw that INT to Nata. Give me a break. The whole team is apart of it. Pitt hasnt moved the football dude
CG (Waco)
I'm betting that it'll be 6-3 Ravens in a minute.
Pete (NC)
Too close for a punt, right?
Buzzmaster (9:54 PM)
He probably would have gotten it inside the 20, though.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
gggggooooooaaaallllll
Buzzmaster (9:54 PM)
Hull City vs. Arsenal, this is not.
Billy (Hillsboro, OR)
field goals hooray!
Ken (Richmond, VA)
And the Ravens just give up and run the ball and settle for the FG.
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
Did they really just run the ball on 3rd down instead of trying for a TD? He just pulled a Romeo Crennel...
Ken (Richmond, VA)
At least this isn't as bad as Steelers/Dolphins was last year.
Patrick (Baltimore)
Rich, have you ever had these people at quarterback? Vinny T, Elvis Grbac, Kyle Boller, Stoney Case, Eric Zier, Scott Mitchell....I do not know who your team is but if your team had that lineage at quarterback, you would be WACKO FOR FLACCO!
Buzzmaster (9:56 PM)
Can people still punt the ball back on a punt in the CFL? That's a rule we need for this game.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Look at these kick offs, amazing!
Al (Canton, OH)
I'm a huge Troy Smith fan and i was dissapointed when he got sick, I think he is much better than Flacco and plus he has the 3rd worst QB Rating
Danny
the steelers need somethng from this drive
Mike (Lexington, KY)
do the qb ratings add up to 80 yet
Armando (Houston,TX)
Wake me up when the game starts
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
That's unfair Ken, the field was absolutely horrible that night.
Jason(Baltimore, MD)
Ben Shoelessberger
CG (Waco)
That's something you don't see every game.
Billy (Hillsboro, OR)
BEN! Your shoe is over there!!
Pete (NC)
Pitt should have just punted on first down.
Patrick (Baltimore)
the Steelers need something from this drive....perhaps staying in their shoes would be a good start.
Buzzmaster (9:57 PM)
They need to move the ball into punt range.
CG (Waco)
The Steelers Dolphins game was awesome last year. The disappointing part was that someone scored.
Buzzmaster (9:58 PM)
Nice work, Ben. Gives the punter a little extra room to work with.
Patrick (Baltimore)
Buzz, great success for moving into punting range.
Jay (NY)
Mmmm burger. I could use one of those...with bacon.
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
Anyone remember when Spurrier was so ticked at his offense at Florida that he punted on 3rd down?
Billy (Hillsboro, OR)
where's the fast forward button? should have TiVo'd this...
Ken (Richmond, VA)
Ben has the deer in the headlights look right now. Not good if you're a Steelers fan.
Tom (Westminster, MD)
It's great seeing the fear in Ben's eyes.. lol
Armando (Houston,TX)
That's more like it. NOT!
Jay (NY)
Are they saying Booo-Urns?
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Only Jon Kitna could get sacked more than that... or throw more interceptions... or play on a worse team...
canvasking (Frisco, CA)
OUCH, boos for ben
Mike (Lexington, KY)
the ravens d is something to behold
Pete (NC)
Boo Weekley is at this game?
Zach Rastall (Marinette, WI)
"Shoeless" Ben Roethlisberger!
Buzzmaster (10:00 PM)
Big deal, it's one shoe. Chad Pennington has been playing without an arm for years.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
thats cold Buzzz...lol
swish (detroit rock city)
Anotherrrrrr punting situation! Whooo!
Patrick (Baltimore)
Straw Poll...the Ravens next possesion will be: A)Field Goal or, B) Punt?
Buzzmaster (10:01 PM)
C) Drop kick?
Zach Rastall (Marinette, WI)
Shut it Buzz!
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
This game reminds me of when I used to watch Titans games with VY as QB....
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Whoa... that was a low blow considering what the Fins did to the Pats.
Tom (Westminster, MD)
IBM (Product placement in a chat...)
Jay (NY)
Shameless plug! In just 12 hours, wake up, get to work and do nothing for 1 hour for the Morning Buzz. You'll talk everything but sports and you get to Booo people from Wisconsin!
Brian
C.) Interception
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Can I choose all of the above?
Armando (Houston,TX)
Any of this two teams could draft Brandon Donovan
canvasking (Frisco, CA)
i like how we're all taking the defensive plays for granted. this is how old school football was. i say we go back to how it used to be, 135 passing yards and a 10-9 ending result eh, haha
Buzzmaster (10:02 PM)
Tough call, did Mason have that?
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
Ok, these punts have to stop. They can't keep going all game can they? I guess the better question is...can I last all game by drinking each punt? hmmmm.
Tom (Westminster, MD)
They're in trouble if they ever loose Stover!
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Are they seriouisly reviewing all of Flacco's decent passes?
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
I think it was a catch---but great a postponement to an endless puntfest...
Tom (Westminster, MD)
That is a catch! I like the replay system this year.
Billy (Hillsboro, OR)
that's a catch!
Patrick (Baltimore)
Yeah, lets also go back to John Madden Football on Sega Genesis. Oh no, I dont know where I am throwing because of the damn passing windows.
Ken (Richmond, VA)
That looks like a catch to me. That's a Chris Carter special right there.
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
This isn't defensive football, this is offensive ineptitude...wait did I just spell that right?
Buzzmaster (10:04 PM)
football? Yep, spelled right.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Stover might be the Brett Favre of kickers.
Buzzmaster (10:04 PM)
Brett Favre is the Matt Stover of quarterbacks.
Zach Rastall (Marinette, WI)
I', sick of you and the rest of the Wisconsin-haters Buzz!
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
I loved when the poll came out that named Stover the best player in Ravens history hahaha
Jay (NY)
Crocodile Dundee: No THIS is a catch!
Al (Atlanta GA)
I'm getting so used to seeing Ben getting sacked
Tom (Westminster, MD)
What can be taking this long on the review???
Josh (NYC)
It will take 2 minutes to review all of Flacco's decent passes
matt (baltimore)
another catch!
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
I think you did Robert---kudos for you!
canvasking (Frisco, CA)
i like how my more genius comments are being held back, and my salty ones are being allowed to go through, love this chat
Buzzmaster (10:05 PM)
Salty?
Buzzmaster (10:05 PM)
You whippersnapper.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Touche, Buzz, touche.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
this gives the Ravens a defacto timeout...lets see what they come up with
DoubleD
Did no one else see the great touchdown catch from Mason, the replay showed the same as this replay catch and toes touching
Al (Canton, OH)
Does anyone else agree that Flacco is not very good?
Patrick (Baltimore)
We are in field goal range, Matt Stover, our only true offensive weapon, better get warmed up.
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
Ah they completed a pass---so they gotta run it into the line. WOuldnt want to get in that endzone...
matt (baltimore)
catch! just like the blown TD catch call!
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Run up the middle, get stuffed. Next play: do it again.
CG (Waco)
These players are dropping like flies.
Tom (Westminster, MD)
I believe Stover is the all time points leader for the Ravens...I wish they would have shown more than 1 replay on that earlier "miss"
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
he seems pretty good for a guy playing his third NFL game after a surprise bye-week.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
not very good yet but will be in time
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
If it weren't for these chats...I probably wouldn't be at home watching a horrible football game...hmmm...maybe I should rethink my strategy on Monday nights...
Buzzmaster (10:08 PM)
McGahee helped off for the Ravens, doesn't look good.
Pete (NC)
This reminds me of McGahee's ugly hit on his knee in college. I watched that about 20 times.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
mcgahee looks out
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
McGaghee is hurt every other play...
Patrick (Baltimore)
Al, from what premise or basis do you have for your arguement that Flacco is not that good. It is his third NFL game and first on national television. Let the kid do his thing, and soon you will be WACKO FOR FLACCO!
Tom (Westminster, MD)
Flacco has been doing better than anyone did last year. At least he's not fumbling it all over the place.
Josh (NYC)
People let's not forget Flacco is allowed 1 good pass per game let's not over work him now Ok!?
Vinnie (NYC)
Nice spin by Flacco... is he trying out for the ballet?
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
Nice screen for 2 yards---exactly what the 2-min drill calls for....when your aiming for field goals and not TDs...
Buzzmaster (10:09 PM)
Ravens moving into really good field goal range.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
OMG HE MIGHT.... WAIT, NOPE. Another kick coming up.
Tom (Westminster, MD)
Great run after that catch!!!
Patrick (Baltimore)
Another screen pass...ingenuity on the Ravens offensive play calling.
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
call in rayray rice
Zach Rastall (Marinette, WI)
McGahee is no Brett Favre!
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Nighttrain McLain thunders down to the 2
Billy (Hillsboro, OR)
oh man, what was that? an exciting play that almost resulted in a TD?
CG (Waco)
That was a nice juke there.
Jason(Baltimore, MD)
Oh yeah. No offense huh? We moved the ball better than Pitt this half
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
btw, whenever McClain makes a play, you have to say out loud MCCCCCCLAINNNN like Hans does in Die Hard. At least that's what we did when he played at Alabama...
Ken (Richmond, VA)
Flacco has outplayed Big Ben plain and simple. The rookie has outplayed the Super Bowl champ.
swish (detroit rock city)
Bloody heck! Can anymore of my fantasy peeps get hurt? Shockey and Westbrook last week. Boldin and McGahee this week. It's a curse!
Buzzmaster (10:11 PM)
And the Ravens turn an easy TD into a five-yard penalty. Solid.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Flacco will never throw a TD in the NFL. But he will win 3 super bowls with Matt Stover and the Ravens Defense.
Pete (NC)
How does he miss that pass?????
Tom (Westminster, MD)
OMG! That should have been a touch down!!!
DoubleD
I like this kid flacco better than croyle
Billy (Hillsboro, OR)
if they don't score six here...i'm turning it off
CG (Waco)
Flacco better not get sacked here.
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
now knee it...and kick
Patrick (Baltimore)
Robert from Alabama...that is the lamest thing that was entered in this chat this evening. Hang your head in shame.
cedric (hh texas)
im not liking flaco this season
Buzzmaster (10:13 PM)
Seriously, I know the economy is in the tank, but peiods and capital letters are still free.
Jay (NY)
I can't wait until they fumble it now.
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
Oh...I can go way lamer than that Patrick...just you wait....just you wait...
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Come on, Harbaugh, just kick it. He's not going to throw a td.
Rob (Pittsburgh, PA)
fg time!
Tom (Westminster, MD)
Exactly Brendan!!! We Ravens fans will take wins any way we can get 'em.
Pete (NC)
somehow i see no points being scored here.
Buzzmaster (10:13 PM)
Ravens moving into punt range ...
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
false start hahaha
Pete (NC)
they're just trying to give stover more room
CG (Waco)
Might as well kick it. Too many flags.
Ed (Los Angeles, CA)
I can relate swish. I have Brady, Westbrook, and now McGahee. How bad is McGahee's injury?
James (delaware)
It didnt matter whether he made that pass or not...there was a penalty
Jay (NY)
Hey I had a Wright Brothers reference before, that was pretty lame. I want the title!
Mike (Lexington, KY)
wow offsides....hmmm
Ken (Richmond, VA)
haha Buzz. The penalty was on Pittsburgh.
Tom (Westminster, MD)
On the D, hahahaha
Buzzmaster (10:14 PM)
Touchdown ... Flacco?
Tom (Westminster, MD)
Wooo Hoooo!! Touch Down Flacco!!!!
swish (detroit rock city)
Thank goodness peiods are still free.
Buzzmaster (10:15 PM)
Hoisted on my own petard.
Rob (Pittsburgh, PA)
amazing, a real score. damn.
Patrick (Baltimore)
WACKO FOR FLACCO!
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
Game over....
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
it's joe flacco's birthday
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Wow. I was way off the whole time! Flacco can throw TD pases.
Buzzmaster (10:15 PM)
Pass. We're still working on passes.
Jay (NY)
Touchdown Flacco? Is just like saying Eli Manning Superbowl Champion?
Ken (Richmond, VA)
How could Pittsburgh be expecting anything but pass there? If Baltimore runs it and they don't make it then there isn't enough time to get the FG attempt off. Pitt should have been playing pass the entire time.
DoubleD
faith my dear balt fans, this is against a pretty good pittt d
Jay (NY)
What in the world is this thing? You can score 6 points at a time? Why did nobody tell me of such things?
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
First and last Flacco TD of the season.
Jason(Baltimore, MD)
Brendan, you eating your words now?
matt (daltimore)
this team is for real.
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
Looks like Pittsburgh picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue...
Mike (Lexington, KY)
you can hear crickets at the Big Tomato Can
Nan (Baltimore)
Give Flacco a break. He is a rookie
Tom (Westminster, MD)
Now I have to stay up for the second half!
Patrick (Baltimore)
What is with the Flacco hating? For the record, the man ran for his life for a 38 yard Touchdown run in week 1. Versatile quarterback ladies and gentlemen.
Buzzmaster (10:17 PM)
And that's the half. We'll be back for the third quarter!
Buzzmaster (10:32 PM)
And we're off and running
canvasking (Frisco, CA)
are we back now?
Zach Rastall (Marinette, WI)
Welcome back!
aj (elyria ohio)
this game is getting pretty boring the steelers offense is anemic
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Ravens defense held Pitt to 46 yards....impressive
Patrick (Louisville)
I am the combination of half the posters tonight 80% of the time!
Jason(Baltimore, MD)
What is with the overrated talk with Pitt? How about under rating the Ravens possibly?
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
Whew, finally. I'm still alive, but struggling. I've got a good quarter or so left in me.
Greg (mt. airy, md)
Flacco is surprisingly good for a rookie
neko baltimore md
can't wait t'ill Flacco gets settled
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Ray Lewis just welcomed Mendenhall to the NFL
EJ
Mendenhall... meet ray lewis
Buzzmaster (10:34 PM)
Steelers almost cost themselves a punt opportunity with that fumble.
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
and Big Ben is suprisingly terrible for a veteran...
Patrick (Louisville)
What a crap play call.
Zach Rastall (Marinette, WI)
I'm running out of things to say.
Pete (NC)
3rd and 1 and Big Ben throws it?
Rich
Should be BOO BEN not BIG BEN
Patrick (Baltimore)
I think LT in this commercial is more offense then we have seen all night.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
What is this Vizio football team? They look a lot more explosive than this Steelers offense.
Josh (NYC)
Ok who here wants to Qb the Steelers they need someone who can throw the ball and some intelligence anyone here qualified?
Buzzmaster (10:36 PM)
So what's the consensus on Roethlisberger? Are we bailing on him?
Pete (NC)
Did Pittsburgh's punter do something wrong and Tomlin is punishing him?
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
i think i'd rather have flacco than roethlisberger
canvasking (Frisco, CA)
are we commenting on the commercials too, cause they seem to be more interesting then the main event
James (Delaware)
Its tough for Ben when he doesnt have a running game or a offensive line...no protection and all you do is pass doesnt work for an offense.
Nan (Baltimore)
No, everyone is bailing on Flacco
Buzzmaster (10:37 PM)
Geez, Ravens score one TD and they think they can run reverses. Baby steps, fellas.
John (Canonsburg, PA)
Why would mike tomlinleave little ben in when he does horrible... Why did we pick up leftwich if we aren't gonna use him?
Jason(Baltimore, MD)
Darn Ben cant have a bad night or his fans ditch him
Josh (NYC)
Buzz you want to take over as Qb for the Steelers?
Michael (Huntington Beach, CA)
He is fine, I mean he is still probably one of the top three healthy quarterbacks in the AFC behind Cutler and Favre.
CG (Waco)
I'm bailing on the offensive line. They have been terrible.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
I would need a a new pair of underwear if I wear Big Ben...the Ravens have been in his face a lot
Nate (Chapel Hill, North Carolina)
Flacco looks decidedly non-boller-like.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Is John serious? Or is he unaware of what Leftwich has done before?
Buzzmaster (10:39 PM)
Where's the flag for shot clock violation?
Rich
WOW!!!!!!
Pat
mason!
canvasking (Frisco, CA)
WHAT!!!!
Mike (Lexington, KY)
is that Fran Tarkenton out there
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Flacco just won me over with that.
swish (detroit rock city)
If I see one more commercial about how you can sell your gold for LOTSA CASH!....i'm gonna...um...not sell my gold.
Nan (Baltimore)
What was that?
EJ
i think flacco just beat mcnabbs 14 second drop back
CG (Waco)
You see. Look at those blocks by the Ravens. They're back in FG range for that.
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
that throw was flaccish.
Buzzmaster (10:40 PM)
Flaccilicious.
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
MMMMMCCCCCLAIIIINNNN!
Nate (Chapel Hill, North Carolina)
that was AWESOME!!!
Buzzmaster (10:41 PM)
Incomplete on third down. He didn't run around long enough that time.
Jay (NY)
He don't take no Flacco! Lame Winner Right Here!
Rich
Flacco must think that is still a blue hen on his helmet!!
Patrick (Baltimore)
Buzz, what is that? Flaccilicious?
Ken (Richmond, VA)
Come on Baltimore, show some guts and go for it.
Armando (Houston, TX)
Not to worry Steelers y'all get a chance to punt again
Buzzmaster (10:42 PM)
''Big net punting edge to the Ravens.'' The NFL's next marketing slogan ...
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
What a punt!....barf...
Mike (Lexington, KY)
another good punt
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
I think Flacco could punt farther than that.
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
flacctacular?
Patrick (Baltimore)
Robert, you are a man of your word and you still own the title of lamest comment this evening.
Ben - somerset,pa
Any one here think they could call better plays than Bruce Arians? Man is he dumb.
Pete (NC)
and Pitt's 3rd string RB? better call kordell stewart.
Tim (Hickory, NC)
Can anyone give a McGahee update?
Buzzmaster (10:43 PM)
Didn't see him that series.
Jay (NY)
That was Buzz channeling Fergie. Unfortunately. That thing needs to go away.
Nate (Chapel Hill, North Carolina)
So.. does that mean if he throws a lame duck, it's "Flaccid?"
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
You know, at first I was upset that people were trying to take away my title of Lamest Comment of the Evening. But, now I understand this is a community that is all about who can be the lamest, and I understand it all...
Nate (Chapel Hill, North Carolina)
Broadcasters said he was getting chest x-rays. Doesn't sound good, though.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
I think Nate gets wittiest comment of the night award.
Buzzmaster (10:45 PM)
Davis vs. McClain in the battle of the running backs. Yikes.
Patrick (Baltimore)
UPDATE...complete pass for Pittsburgh. Who would have thought?
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
it's a celebration of everything flacco.
Paul (Phoenix, AZ)
Any word yet on McGahee's injury?
Buzzmaster (10:46 PM)
They're just showing him walking back out to the sideline. Still in pads, at least.
Patrick (Louisville)
What a stat! Not per game, not per play, per drop-back? I'd hate to be the stat geek that logged those numbers.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
ravens defense is violent
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
i can't see the word mclain without thinking about die hard. can we call him something else?
Buzzmaster (10:46 PM)
Hudson Hawk?
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Pitt is going through a lot of RBs... maybe they might want to give Cedric Benson or Shaun Alexander a call.
Armando (Houston, TX)
Ice cold beer gentlemen, that's what it's all about
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
Why are they even trying to run right now? 3-step drops...throw...that's it. Simple football. No handing off to RB's that no one has heard of...
Buzzmaster (10:47 PM)
Big Ben wanted to audible to the punt ...
Ron (PA)
I have two words...Dennis Dixon
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
i think hudson hawk is a good football nickname. and a slightly underrated movie.
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
Ben is so scared to get hit right now... He is a totally different QB than before he got in that bike wreck...
Jason(Baltimore, MD)
Buzz haha do you think that Audible is in Tomlin's playbook?
Buzzmaster (10:49 PM)
12 men on the field for the return team? Did they put their punter out there as well?
canvasking (Frisco, CA)
is this first type first served or what, i feel cheated if so
Patrick (Baltimore)
Audible to punt, not a bad decision since that is the only forward progress the team has made all evening.
Jay (NY)
Wasn't Hudson Hawk in the Legion of Doom?
Greg(Cleveland,TN )
is mcgahee out of the game? what happened?
Buzzmaster (10:49 PM)
Left with an injury in the first half.
Patrick (Baltimore)
Buzz, probably. Cook is still the player of the game thus far.
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
I don't know, maybe i i had a reliable punting analyst i could make a well informed opinion.
Nick, Pittsburgh PA
Well.... LETS GO PENS! LETS GO PENS! thank god hockey season is starting!!!
Buzzmaster (10:50 PM)
Not for Sergei Gonchat it isn't.
Buzzmaster (10:50 PM)
Gonchar, damnit.
Pete (NC)
I don't think I need to watch the game anymore. Just keep talking about Pitt punting and anything Flaccocious and I'll be spot on.
Buzzmaster (10:51 PM)
It's for the best really.
Tim (Hickory, NC)
Shaun Alexander would be a perfect back for that offensive line. He could take the handoff, see all the opponents in the backfield and just lay down to avoid contact like he always does.
Patrick (Baltimore)
No, that was Hawk and Animal of the Legion of Doom.
brian (amherst,OH)
the steelers have a lot of injuries happening this year. all most all of their draft picks are still out with injuries, besides all of the new ones
Patrick (Baltimore)
The Ravens, if they win tonight, will tie the longest win streak the Baltimore Orioles had this season.
NickSD
What was the song they played when they were coming back from the second half. They were showing the stadium from the blimp from above and the song started with really cool piano music playing? Anyone know?
Powers ( Houston, TX)
Does anyone have any idea the song that keeps playing over and over again during the game? It sounds like a Steve miller band song.....help anyone?
EJ
canvasking, if you're not entering vapid nonsequiters about punting, you won't get posted
Buzzmaster (10:52 PM)
That's just not fair. We also accept vapid nonsequiters on field goal kicking.
Patrick (Baltimore)
The Who, Baba O'Riley
James (Delaware)
I'm pretty sure its THE WHO...Baba O'reilly was one
Buzzmaster (10:53 PM)
[vapid comment] punt coming!
Jay (NY)
I think the term vapid nonsequiters just broke the chat.
Nate (Chapel Hill, North Carolina)
patrick: that is hilariously sad.
Armando (Houston, TX)
And a punt for a change
Buzzmaster (10:54 PM)
Punter is starting to show signs of fatigue. Must have been the Steelers plan all along.
Pete (NC)
The scary thing is Pittsburgh is only two scores back.
swish (detroit rock city)
Sub par punt.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
shank
Delbert (Annapolis, MD)
Hank Williams Jr. "Are You Ready For Some Football!!"
Ken (Richmond, VA)
One thing that Flacco needs to learn is to stop throwing to Polamalu's side. He's going to get his WR's killed.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
I know when I watch football and I'm more interested in the background music than the game it must be a really boring game.
James (Delaware)
That was a bad kick...really bad...and why are we talking about music?
Nate (Chapel Hill, North Carolina)
Pete: the scarier thing is that it seems out of reach, doesn't it?
Armando (Houston, TX)
good plan
Buzzmaster (10:56 PM)
Hall of Fame debate: Reggie Roby or Rohn Stark ...
Punt-o-meter (on the sideline)
Raven 5 Steelers 5 10 punts total.
EJ
James, you can say punt
canvasking (Frisco, CA)
two scores down in a game like this is pretty much like saying, we should re-group and get ready for Jacksonville
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
reggie roby and his fine gold watch.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
dumb penalty
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
You've got to be kidding me. The O-Coordinator for the Steelers should be fired right now. That was horrible...
CG (Waco)
Stupid mistake right there.
Ken (Richmond, VA)
15 yard penalty on Baltimore is Pittsburgh's best play of the night.
Armando (Houston, TX)
At least we get to chat, back in the day we would have to watch!
Pete (Philly)
I think people are more intrested in the Cheerleaders then this game how about they show more of them?
Buzzmaster (10:57 PM)
I didn't think the Steelers had cheerleaders?
Kevin (Charlottesville, VA)
I need Pittsburgh's kicker to miss a field goal. Can I still win my fantasy matchup?
Ken (Richmond, VA)
And of course Pitt goes no huddle just to run it up the middle for 2 yards.
Chris (Pittsburgh)
Steelers don't have cheerleaders
Pete (NC)
Speaking of cheerleaders, the Steelers have none.
Buzzmaster (10:59 PM)
Given the first half, maybe huddling was a bad idea anyway. TD Steelers to Holmes!
Mike (Lexington, KY)
that was an obvious holding
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Did Flacco just change teams and throw a strike?
Patrick (Louisville)
But they do have Steeley McBeam! Touchdown!
Ken (Richmond, VA)
We have a game now. A real live NFL football game.
CG (Waco)
Steelers need to no huddle the rest of the game.
Buzzmaster (10:59 PM)
13-10, 4:09 left in the third.
Rich
S.MOSS FROM OHIO STATE!!!!!
Buzzmaster (11:00 PM)
Um ...
Jason(Baltimore, MD)
How about the holding on Trevor Pryce?????
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
if flacco was playing safety, that never would have happened.
Patrick (Baltimore)
Ephraim, you are absolutely right. Without question he would have made that tackle with his closing speed.
vindago
S.Holmes from OSU
Patrick (Baltimore)
I think the commercial for Iron Man had more entertainment value then this punt fest of a football game.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Rich might be drunk.
Jay (NY)
In true SN fashion, 1 Flacco TD has made him a hero. I can't wait for the Joe Flacco Facts.
canvasking (Frisco, CA)
a flash in the pan is all that was, look for Flacco to score 6 in this coming drive, and then do a reverse moon walk
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
And I've got nothing more to say... Time to lay on the couch and eat Cheetos.
Patrick (Louisville)
Oh Yeah. A financial crisis joke.
swish (detroit rock city)
That was a weird looking punt from Pittsburgh. I didn't think you could punt off a tee.
Buzzmaster (11:03 PM)
TD Steelers on the fumble recovery!
Chris (Pittsburgh)
thats right!!!!!!
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
FLACCO FUMBLING FLAWS
Mike (Lexington, KY)
UHOH
Pete (NC)
The thing was I almost called a Pitt D TD, damn
CG (Waco)
Ha ha ha ha. Just like that the Steelers are winning.
CG (Waco)
Ha ha ha ha. Just like that the Steelers are winning.
Patrick (Baltimore)
Joe Flacco once ran a succesful two point conversion on a QB option against the Navy Midshipmen in 2007.
Patrick (Louisville)
One member of the team can jump into the stands? Lambeau leap rule?
Buzzmaster (11:04 PM)
What if two try and only one makes it?
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
the steelers obviously cheated on that play, somehow.
Patrick (Baltimore)
Joe Flacco looks like Tony Banks out there now.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
holy schnikes woodley
Pete (Philly)
I'm enjoyng this chat room so much I was hoping this game would go into OT so much for that
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
If only Ed Hoculli was ref'ing this game. Baltimore would still be leading...
Houston, Tx
How quickly things change
CG (Waco)
Wow look at Flacco's head snap back.
Nick (St. Louis)
S. Jackson got 15 for leaping yesterday
Joe Flacco Fans (Jumping off the Bandwagon)
This thing is too crowded. Peace out.
James (Delaware)
If that is Flacco's only mistake of the game...he did well...He just needs to get rid of the ball quicker.
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
hush yo mouth. i will hear no criticism of joe flacco.
Steve (Pittsburgh PA)
As soon as my mozzarella sticks were done, the Steelers scored twice. Fate? Probably not...sounds good though!
Brad(Knoxville)
That place is rockin
Patrick (Baltimore)
Time for a screen...
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Joe Flacco is crumbling.
Andrew (New York)
Now Baltimore needs to step it up, and avoid those key mistakes.
canvasking (Frisco, CA)
look for a counter move by the Ravens D with their own TD before the game's over, preferably by Mr. Reed(pic 6)
mark(philly)
stop the scoring i took the under!
Tom (Chicago)
As long as Hines Ward doesn't score, I don't care who else does...
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
dangit, out of Cheetos...Cheez-it's or popcorn?
Nate (Chapel Hill, North Carolina)
If the ravens go 3 and out here, I'm calling the game.
Buzzmaster (11:09 PM)
They've got the fumble down now; the offensive lineman was all over that one.
Patrick (Baltimore)
I repeat, Joe Flacco looks like Tony Banks.
Steve (Pittsburgh PA)
Go for the popcorn...it goes better with beer!
Patrick (Baltimore)
Popcorn, the only thing softer then Big Ben
Tom (Chicago)
Fellow Wolverine LaMar Woodley is making some plays.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
baltimore we have a problem
Rich (NJ Giants)
Cheez its
Ken (Richmond, VA)
Ok, Baltimore has fallen apart.
Punt-o-meter (Hines Field)
11 punts tonight!!!
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Flacco looks like John Beck of Miami Dolphins fame.
Buzzmaster (11:10 PM)
Fame?
Buzzmaster (11:11 PM)
The Steelers are going to have a tough time running out the clock without any RBs.
Alec (Trebek)
The Baba O'Reily Factor...Zing!
Josh T (Garland, TX)
Shame...It was a type-o
Delgado
steelers will turn this into a blow out
ted (Baltimore)
the home crowd really will win the game for the steelers.
Brad(Knoxville)
Impossible to have fame from the Dolphins unless your name is Marino
Buzzmaster (11:12 PM)
or Ray Finkle.
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
flacco is merely lulling the steelers into a false sense of security. when the time is right, he'll pounce like a freakin cheetah.
Pete (Philly)
Do these Punters get paid per punt?
Brad(Knoxville)
PUNT TEAM!
Armando (Houston, TX)
And a punt
CG (Waco)
Steelers should have kept doing the no huddle.
Nate (Chapel Hill, North Carolina)
As a lifelong ravens fan I can tell you that they are good for 2-3 losses a year due almost exclusively to stupid penalties.
Patrick (Baltimore)
LACES OUT!
Patrick (Louisville)
Cheetas need a long run up to attack prey, chasing them down.
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
Anthony Gonzalaz and Santonio Holmes were the two WR's opposite of Ted Ginn at Ohio State. Just another fact to jab at Dolphins fans...
Jim Ross (Announcer's Table)
What's that beeping noise? Baahh Gawd that's the Bus's music. That's how they're gonna run out the clock!
Punt-o-meter (Hines Field)
12 punts tonight!!!
Buzzmaster (11:14 PM)
And that's the end of the third, 17-13, Steelers.
elmar
i smell a fumble coming
Jay (NY)
What do you know about pressure??!
daniel
at least the game has become one worth watching
Armando (Houston, TX)
At least this is worth watching
Mike (Lexington, KY)
is there a parrot in here.. :)
Patrick (Baltimore)
The Express, yet again a sign of more offense then we have seen through 3 quarters of football
Jeff (Brasil)
Her comes the flacco INT.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Joe Flacco fumbles one more time, whose taking me up on the bet?
Corey (Ware)
Bring back Dilfer!!
Mike (Lexington, KY)
is there a better leader than Ray Ray
Buzzmaster (11:16 PM)
Charlemagne
daniel
my two month old daughter is getting into it. I think she was laughing at big ben
James (Delaware)
I think its funny how you all are riding the flacco bus at one moment...the next...you are all bashing him
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
and I'm not quite dead yet! I'm getting better!
Armando (Houston, TX)
And a punt
Tony (Memphis)
This game is setting offensive football back 40 years
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Winston Churchill. Only he could resist the Blitz.
Punt-o-Meter (Hines Field)
13 punts and going!!
ted (Baltimore)
ANOTHER 3 AND OUT?!hello typical ravens.
Pete (NC)
Charlemagne huh? I'm more of a red wine man myself.
swish (detroit rock city)
annnnnd Puntapalooza continues.
Jay (NY)
David I hope you live on the West Coast or you're an awful parent.
Patrick (Baltimore)
Punt Tally is up to what now?
Buzzmaster (11:19 PM)
13, compared to 17 first downs.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Only god can count that high.
Steve (Pittsburgh PA)
Go long here...what is there to lose??
Buzzmaster (11:19 PM)
No, no, you've got to go for the pooch punt here.
Chris (Pittsburgh)
why don't you allow freedom of speech on this chat, buzz?
Buzzmaster (11:20 PM)
Buzz is a dictator.
Patrick (Baltimore)
Mike Tomlin, youngest head coach in the NFL as of tomorrow.
daniel
A look into Mike Tomlins playbook " run some plays then punt"
Jay (NY)
And the Pulse is the jester.
Buzzmaster (11:21 PM)
But did you write the book of love?
Steve (Pittsburgh PA)
This game reminds me of that epic punt battle from 4 years ago when the Steelers played the Dolphins in that hurricane.
Mark (New york)
Ravens gotta make a big play on D get us some field position to operate with
Patrick (Louisville)
Buzz is Ricky Henderson?
Pete (NC)
Punt. What a dirty four letter word.
Patrick (Baltimore)
Was there a punt during the Army commercial?
Pete (Philly)
Come on people we all know we want to see this game go into OT. So all we need is a Ravens Td and a Steelers Field goal and this game goes into OT
Tom (Chicago)
A benovelent dictator? Or a ruthless one?
Buzzmaster (11:22 PM)
Benevolently ruthless
Mike (Lexington, KY)
if ya aint cheatin ya aint tryin
Patrick (Louisville)
Pete, have you thought about joining a movement caled the Morning Buzz?
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
So let me get this straight, the defense is holding to open up running lanes for Ben?
Brad (knoxville)
OT? what is this a Buffalo Wild Wings commercial?
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
And that Steelers Dolphins game was the first game I came to these chats. And where I started the Take A Shot Per Punt. You would think I would learn to not do that during Steelers games...hmmm..I'll have to consider that...
Pete (NC)
So this isn't a chatocracy?
Tom (Chicago)
You're definitely not ruthlessly benevolent. That's for sure.
LaDawn
I know Ward didn't screw up, he's too smart for that
Patrick (Baltimore)
Timeout from all this action. I can hardly contain myself.
Brad (Knoxville)
or a chatogopily
The Refresher
Why can't The Refresher be heard?- The Refresher
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Buzz is splendifferishly odorous
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
I approve of glorious leader Buzz Master.
Tom (Chicago)
Is the Refresher like the Freshmaker but lamer?
Jack (PA)
Ravens need a new punter, leg's tired
Nate (Chapel Hill, North Carolina)
The refresher: third person is discouraged.
Buzzmaster (11:25 PM)
Buzz agrees.
Buzzmaster (11:25 PM)
How the heck do you get that open?
daniel
ha ha
corey (youngstown, ohio)
santonio holmes for president!
CG (Waco)
How did Ward get that wide open??
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
hmm... How do you get that open?
Josh T (Garland, TX)
Look at that elusive Ben R...
Nate (Chapel Hill, North Carolina)
Said it before, say it again: Game over.
Patrick (Baltimore)
Dude from 'bama, the Refresher certified his claim to the lamest comment this evening.
Buzzmaster (11:27 PM)
Whatya know, lots of punts, penalties and injuries really slow a game down.
Chris (Pittsburgh)
why don't you tell everyone why i asked the freedom question?
Buzzmaster (11:28 PM)
Fair enough. Chris wanted to debate the season opener of Ghost Whisperer.
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
dangit, but he can't be serious about what the refresher is doing!
Josh T (Garland, TX)
buzz with some thoughtful insight. LOL
Pete (Philly)
See this is why the Steelers need Cheerleaders
Patrick (Baltimore)
Buzz, atleast we get great commercials. Like a fist going through wood...
LaDawn
Ward knows what he's doing, that's how he got that open.. He always comes out of nowhere
Patrick (Louisville)
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO CHRIS!!!!!!
James (Delaware)
Ravens' defense looking a little slow?
Roger(Jax. FL)
This game better end soon they are running out of running backs.
Buzzmaster (11:30 PM)
Flag for lack of punting.
Cptn. Obvious (My house on computer via web)
Wow, we all see the same commercials? Was that another punt?
Pete (NC)
How did that guy in the stands get that wide open???
Paul (Lorain, OH)
So is Ben still overrated?
Steve (Pittsburgh PA)
I don't understand...the Steelers choose not to have cheerleaders but pick a lame mascot named Steely McBeam?? What kind of logic is that?
Tony (Chicago)
How about throwing to Heath in the end zone for once?
Josh T (Garland, TX)
The refs flags are actually grass-stained...
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
was that the first play that Baltimore didn't blitz? Couldn't they have changed the D when they realized there were only the 5 linemen protecting Ben? Where is Ray Lewis in that situation??? HELLO!!!
Patrick (Baltimore)
Roger, the bigger concern is the well being of the punters. The NFLPA may raise issues of over working their clients.
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
I will never root for a team that doesn't have cheerleaders...
Buzzmaster (11:33 PM)
Steelers run it twice in a row with their fourth running back? Ok ...
Dave Jag
Go For it!!
ted (Baltimore)
goal line stand! please?
Jeff (Jersey)
can anyone tell me why the ravens choose to play mclain at RB instead of using ray rice who really is number 2 on the depth chart. i mean the guy is a FB. madness
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Joe Flacco should play line backer.
CG (Waco)
Go for it!! Smash mouth football. Don't wimp out.
Buzzmaster (11:33 PM)
FG makes it 20-13.
ted (Baltimore)
now if the ravens could just score a td......
LaDawn (NC)
Because football is more about the team than cheerleaders. If you're watching the cheerleaders you need to flip channels and watch a cheerleading competition, not football. andand this is coming from a girl
Pete (NC)
OT still a possibility.
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
Jeff, the Ravens were trying to help me gain the Lamest Post Of The Night award by playing McClain...but noooo, some dude needed to come in using 3rd person...
daniel
its pathetic! there were more touchdowns in fifteen seconds than there were in the whole game
Tony (Chicago)
Mewelde Moore?? I thought he was selling life insurance in Montana. Awesome.
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
Um...it's a little scary to know people that watch cheerleading competitions. You do realize they are all in high school...yeah, not my cup of...well...beer...but you get my point...
Buzzmaster (11:36 PM)
There are college cheerleading competitions. ... Or so I've been told, of course.
Steve (Pittsburgh PA)
Time for another turnover by Flacco
mitch
yeah and those were the 15 secs i missed!!!
jeff (jersey)
flacco just looks confused out there. only if troy smith never got sick and lost like 30 pounds, the birds would be blowing the steelers out.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
i smell punt
LaDawn (NC)
If refs got paid for each flag they threw on the field, we'd have some millionares made tonight! They've kept this game going for 4 hours.
Greg (Bristol Tn)
What do ya think of what T.O. had to say about their loss yesterday?
Buzzmaster (11:37 PM)
T.O. thinks Joe Flacco needs to throw more passes his way.
Milwaukee
And the Ravens excuses begin....
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
just wait. flacco is coiled up like a hunry cobra.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
no penalties please
Patrick (Baltimore)
Like a hungry cobra? Wow.
Buzzmaster (11:39 PM)
Where's Steve McMichael when you need him?
Pete (Philly)
Come on Flacco We need a Td to take this into OT you can do it
ted (Baltimore)
driving... here comes.... a fumble!
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
No Flacco Fumbles?
LaDawn (NC)
Flacco goes down for a loss of 5! He's good... For a rookie playing the Steelers
Pete (NC)
Joe Floppo. I'm sorry. I just had to do it.
Buzzmaster (11:40 PM)
Nice pass there, Ravens at the five yard line.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
What? Flacco throwing strikes??
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Flacco for world leader
Buzzmaster (11:40 PM)
No. 3 behind Buzz and Kim Jong Il.
CG (Waco)
Mason is killing it tonight.
ted (Baltimore)
oh no. we are coming away with a TD.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
4 down territory
LaDawn (NC)
Hmm.. They may get this touchdown. But I don't know, Steelers are good when it comes to pressure on running the ball
Paul (Lorain, OH)
Me and my friend are OSU fans and keep calling for Flacco.. but man he is looking very good for a rookie from Delaware.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Why don't they put Ray Lewis in as HB??
ted (Baltimore)
TOUCHDOWN!!!!!
CG (Waco)
That's what I'm talking about. Power football.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
that looked like bo jackson running over bosworth
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
MMMMMCCCCCCCLLLLLAAAAAAIIIIINNNNNN!
Buzzmaster (11:42 PM)
TD Butch Coolidge.
Pete (NC)
Just go for 2. Put an end to this madness.
Buzzmaster (11:43 PM)
Tied up 20-20.
Steve (Pittsburgh PA)
Old time hockey!!! Oh wait, wrong sport....
Patrick (Baltimore)
Robert, come on now brother. You have been waiting all night for that, haven't you?
Pete (Philly)
I told you This game would go into OT
Mike (Lexington, KY)
are we on the flacco roller coaster tonite?
Buzzmaster (11:43 PM)
The Flaccoaster?
Lawrence Timmons (where am I?)
Ouch!!
Ken (Richmond, VA)
So much for the puntfest. This game has turned into a scoring explosion. Well it's a scoring explosion for a Steelers/Ravens game.
ted (Baltimore)
time to test the D
LaDawn (NC)
Rookie couldnt get a 2 pt conversion if he wanted to, his specialty is long passes, not REAL contact plays.
Tony (Chicago)
This game is on a collision course with overtime. Estimated time of game's end = 2am EST
Mike (Lexington, KY)
how many more backs do the steelers have
Buzzmaster (11:45 PM)
Barry Foster is next.
Taylor (Milwaukee)
Jeff Reed, game winning field goal!
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
i wouldnt mind a few more punts
Patrick (Baltimore)
Buzz, you have officially taken the title back from the Refresher as the lamest comment of the night.
ted (Baltimore)
onside kick. if it was jim zorn.
Lauren (Cleveland)
What 's with the yellow helmets?
Steve (Pittsburgh PA)
I thought Bam Morris was the emergency RB??
Buzzmaster (11:46 PM)
Steelers positioning themselves for the overtime coin flip.
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
if butch coolidge scores again, does he become david addison?
Nate (Chapel Hill, North Carolina)
I dont like the ravens chances in OT if they manage to hold here... a prospect of which i am also doubtful
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
Patrick, McClain is seriously an awesome FB... Although I have no idea why he is playing HB, he rules at the goal line...
Mike (Lexington, KY)
heads no no tails
Patrick (Baltimore)
Lauren, tribute to Blind Melon this evening in Pittsburgh.
ted (Baltimore)
3 and out would be devastating for the steelers.
B.R. (Bowling Green, Ky)
any one else impressed with Harbaugh's play calling...i see two future great head coaches on the field right now...great mnf game
Lauren (Cleveland)
Blind Who?
Buzzmaster (11:48 PM)
Proof you're too young to be in here at 11:48 p.m.
Tony (Chicago)
Running out the clock in a tie game. Goodell has to be giddy over this display of offensive firepower.
Tracey (Pittsburgh)
Hand it off to TIm Worley!
Phillip (Charlotte, NC)
Flacco once delivered gas to the Southeast and made the DOW go up 800 points by saying the word 'economy'.
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
Dangit, I've been topped twice now lame post of the night...
Patrick (Baltimore)
Go to YouTube and type in Blind Melon, No Rain. You will see the back up RBs for the Steelers.
LaDawn (NC)
All we need is field goal range
Rich (Baltimore)
Which team will punt last?
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
You ever hear the slow version of No Rain? Awesome song...
Chris Economy, PA
No Ot here!
Paul (Lorain, OH)
LaDawn used the term "We" Buzz!
Buzzmaster (11:50 PM)
No snitching, Paul.
Phillip (Charlotte, NC)
Is this the Super Bowl where we enjoy commercials instead of the game?
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
does he who punts last punt loudest?
Ken (Richmond, VA)
This is where Ray Ray and that defense is supposed to make a big stop. So far they aren't doing it.
Patrick (Baltimore)
Phillip, you can not just replace Chuck Norris with Joe Flacco in those lame jokes. I can not believe I just read that comment, my intelligece just went down after reading your thoughts.
Economy (US)
Buzz, you got 700 billion I could borrow?
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
if a punt is kicked out in the middle of the forest, does the punt make sound?
Brad (Knoxville)
3rd down here, BIG PLAY
Buzzmaster (11:52 PM)
They're already in Janikowski's range, according to Lane Kiffin.
Phillip (Charlotte, NC)
Patrick, Baltimore, enjoy your team being defeated by a team running an offense with 10 WRs.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
theres that D baby
ted (Baltimore)
maybe an important down?
Pete (NC)
Guess what. PUNT PUNT PUNT PUNT PUNT.
LaDawn (NC)
Steelers field goal kicker is pretty amazing though. He has had some long-range kicks
Roger(Jax. FL)
yay punt punt punt!! best part of this game.
EJ
Puunnnntttt!!!
Ken (Richmond, VA)
Ray tipped that ball but Holmes still had a chance to make that catch. Great receivers make that catch.
Nick (Pittsburgh)
looks like ot boys
Jake (Fargo)
WOOHOO Another Freakin Punt...
Punt-o-Meter (Hines Field)
14 punts!!!
Mike (Lexington, KY)
well Flacco can make a name for himself if he can pull off another big drive
Ken (Richmond, VA)
Time to see how Flacco runs the 2 minute drill.
Buzzmaster (11:55 PM)
Why play for overtime when you have the ball? I don't get that.
CG (Waco)
They're not taking any chances with Flacco. This is going to overtime.
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
i was just concussed by flacco's brilliance.
Pete (NC)
The NFL needs to change the rules and give 1 point per punt. That would make for some great strategy.
Paul (Lorain, OH)
Hey I'm all right with these punts.. it can naver be as bad as that muddy game last year at Heinz where the field was falling apart.
Pete (Philly)
The Ravens are playing like they want this game to go into OT
Mike (Lexington, KY)
You always call Tails
LaDawn (NC)
Because Flacco probably can't get it anyways so he's hoping for an OT instead
Buzzmaster (11:56 PM)
Right, overtime, when you're hoping you get ... the ball ... which you have right now ...
Martin (Baltimore)
That's why you play the game! WIN!
Josh T (Garland, TX)
Always call Heads...Everyone knows that
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
wow, are you kidding me??!? You have the ball right now and a chance to win, and the idiots are saying play for overtime...wow wow wow
Nick (Pittsburgh)
got all my money of steelers in ot
Buzzmaster (11:57 PM)
Is that you, Sec. Paulson?
Patrick (Baltimore)
I think we should punt or throw a screen. The two most common plays this evening.
Buzzmaster (11:57 PM)
How about a screen punt?
Pete (Philly)
I hate to tell you people I told you so but I did this game will go into OT
Jake (Fargo)
I predict a punt before OT begins....Just a hunch there usually wrong.
ted (Baltimore)
this game will be know forever as the birth of a legend. joe flacco.
Patrick (Baltimore)
Oh, a penalty flag. Goodness, time for the screen punt.
Josh T (Garland, TX)
And in Paper, Scissors, Rock always go Paper 1st because 53% of the time people lead with Rock...
Paul (Lorain, OH)
They had to get 1 more flag in didn't they..
Buzzmaster (11:58 PM)
And we go to overtime.
Art Tulsa, Ok
How do you have an illegal formation when you take a knee?
Ken (Richmond, VA)
Why the hell even throw the flag on that play? All they're doing is taking a knee. So stupid.
Pete (NC)
that explanation took longer than the 7 seconds it would have taken to run out the clock.
LaDawn (NC)
I like the aerosmith being played in the background :-)
Mike (Lexington, KY)
did you know that 80% of quoted stats are made up on the spot 93% percent of the time
Tom (Chicago)
In honor of this overtime, I would like to bring up Matt Millen's first head coach, Morinweig, who took the wind. Idiot.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
That is what is so great about the NFL, pete.
Patrick (Baltimore)
Do the Steelers have enough healthy offensive players for an offensive team captain?
Buzzmaster (12:00 AM)
Oh dear lord. Just go to the dang overtime already.
Josh T (Garland, TX)
Oh C'mon already!!
Mike (Lexington, KY)
are u kiddin me....what the and^%$
Jamie (MD)
LOL!
Jake (Fargo)
Wow You gotta be kidding me
Paul (Lorain, OH)
... Come on Refs really???1
Tom (Chicago)
Baltimore should go deep!
Armando (Houston, TX)
This is the lamest mnf game ever
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Wow, is this the first time this has happened?
CG (Waco)
What the heck?? I'm confused.
Buzzmaster (12:01 AM)
And that was so worth it.
Pete (Philly)
Reset the glame clock to 7 seconds are you kidding me the Ref's want more air time
James (Delaware)
That was the longest 7 seconds in history
Paul (Lorain, OH)
No false starts?
Holly (Kansas City)
What was that??? Why just kneel down??
EJ
you gotta be kidding me... are the refs getting payed by the minute? theyre' really dragging this out
Jacob (Charlotte, NC)
It all goes back to that missed challenge by Raven's staff on that TD catch in the first half...
Ken (Richmond, VA)
This is just par for the course with the refs this year.
Pete (NC)
That was Hochuli-esque.
Tyler (Laramie, WYO)
Tie?
Buzzmaster (12:03 AM)
Last regular season tie? Steelers-Falcons in 2002.
James (Delaware)
Did that coin flip???
CG (Waco)
That was a sorry flip.
Ken (Richmond, VA)
Let's see if Baltimore decides to play for a second overtime with this posession.
Patrick (Baltimore)
I am just glad we did not take the wind. I was worried there for a moment.
Jake (Fargo)
Challenge the kneel down..I dont think flaccos knee hit the ground.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
there would have to be 12 more punts for a tie to happen.
Tom (Chicago)
This game is causing me to become dehydrated. Time for some water.
James (Delaware)
That coin went straight up and straight down
Tony (Chicago)
Its the freaking year 2008, if we cant have flying cars, cant we at least have robot refs?
LaDawn (NC)
Challenge the coin!
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
WHY WON'T THIS GAME DIE?!?!
Buzzmaster (12:05 AM)
Steelers-Ravens: Tie Harder.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Joe Flacco would have flipped that coin 200 feet in the air with that cannon arm of his.
Buzzmaster (12:05 AM)
Big return, but it won't hold up.
George (Pittsburgh)
it's time for college rules in OT... statistics show receiving team usually wins
Josh T (Garland, TX)
Dang..I took the over on the number of coin revoltions should the game go to OT...I always mess that up. DOH!
Tom (Chicago)
I am pretty sure there were about 70 yards worth of penalties on the return.
Ken (Richmond, VA)
A great return wasted by a penalty that had no effect on the play whatsoever.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Remember the XFL's "lack of rules", that would be great right about now.
Buzzmaster (12:06 AM)
I remember their lack of talent.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
the receiving team wins on the first possession around 28% of the time
Jacob (Charlotte, NC)
This is ridiculous. Three and a half hours plus for a game that's been a little of an hour in game time.
Chris (Chicago, IL)
Anyone see that weak coin flip? It didnt even flip - Im serious. Slow down your dvr and check it out.
Jake (Fargo)
I got 2 punts for Ravens 1 for the steelers and the game ends in a TIE
Paul (Lorain, OH)
And lack of viewers Buzz.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
flacco is a gunslinger
Ken (Richmond, VA)
Ravens would have been better off kicking the ball away to start OT.
Nick (Pittsburgh)
game over steelers will get good field position after punt and jeff will kick game winning field goal
LaDawn (NC)
I'm tired of these lame flags
Robb (Ft. Lauderdale, FL)
I keep replaying it...It was definitely a coin toss not a coin flip. The Steelers noticed it and no one seems to care. Why?
Tom (Chicago)
At least football is worth watching for 3 hours. Unlike baseball. Or the NBA.
Brad (Knoxville)
they will get this 3rd down
Buzzmaster (12:09 AM)
Down goes Flacco on the sack.
CG (Waco)
Steelers need to go no huddle when they get the ball back.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
so who was guessing wed see a punt?
Buzzmaster (12:09 AM)
Um, everyone?
Jacob (Charlotte, NC)
If this doesn't end in ten minutes I'm telling Nielsen I didn't see it.
Buzzmaster (12:10 AM)
Ouch
Punt-o-Meter (Hines Field)
15 punts!!!
Patrick (Baltimore)
A punt? Who would have thought. It would not be a game without another punt.
Ken (Richmond, VA)
Santonio Holmes got, JACKED UP
Josh T (Garland, TX)
whoa, big hit on Holmes
EJ
What a HIT!!!!
Patrick (Baltimore)
Did he cross body blocked right there by Barnes?
CG (Waco)
Holmes got JACKED UP!!!
Nick (Pittsburgh)
game winning field goal drive only need two first downs
Buzzmaster (12:11 AM)
Good things the Ravens didn't go for it when they had the ball at the end of regulation. In exactly the same place they started OT.
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
You know, this game would get great ratings if they had started it at about 6 or 6:30. Instead, the only people watching are us and whomever fell asleep out of pure bordem and left the TV...
Buzzmaster (12:11 AM)
3rd down coming ...
Jake (Fargo)
The Punt-O-Meter should be the ref theres more punts then points
Tyler (Laramie, WYO)
Reed is MONEY in these situations!
Tom (Chicago)
Throw it to Holmes. Or Limas Sweed!
Jesse (Cleveland, OH)
What was wrong with the XFL, with such luminaries as John Avery, Tommy Maddox, Rod "He Hate Me" Smart, and their best player Brett Bech gracing the field.
LaDawn (NC)
Roth tends to mess these situtations up a lot
Buzzmaster (12:12 AM)
