Chat with Jayski

Josh(Butler,TN)
Jay, What about Kyle Busch. The first 26 races Busch couldn't seem to do anything wrong. But when it counts the most the team can't seem to do anything right?
Jayski (12:57 PM)
Stuff happens, the team and Busch had run well at NH but the car was way off for some reason and the last two weeks stuff under the hood derailed Busch, not much he can do about Dover or Kansas, mechanical stuff breaks, do not think it is anything the team did wrong, just bad timing, every year one or two drop out very fast, this year it just happened to be the points leader --- in a huge way
Chad (Cascade,MD)
Will anyone outside the three win the cup?
Jayski (1:06 PM)
looks doubtful, but I think there still is a chance for any driver within 150 points, but they need to get hot NOW and hope the 99, 16 and 48 cool off a bit
Charlie (Milwaukee)
Is Jimmie gearing up for yet another run here?
Jayski (1:07 PM)
been gearing up all year, he got hot at the right time for sure, but still has to hold off Biffle and Edwards
Dale (Louisville)
How amazing would another cup win for JJ be? One of the greatest accomplishments in sports?
Jayski (1:09 PM)
at least in NASCAR anyway as he would only be the 2nd driver to win 3 in a row, the other of course being Cale Yarborough
Pete C (Newark DE)
Jayski, any reason why the toyotas have been struggling down the stretch of the season after starting so dominate?
Jayski (1:10 PM)
goes hand in hand with JGR struggling, since they are the only Toyota's in the Chase, Stewart and Hamlin been off most of the season, Busch I explained a few items back, just hit some bad luck
Neal (Washington)
How disappointed are you if you're Kyle Busch? Terrible finish to a great season.
Jayski (1:11 PM)
very disappointed
Sam (Boston)
Do you think it's harder or easier to win the Cup now comopared to pre-Chase?
Jayski (1:14 PM)
like comparing apples and oranges, you need th race to get into the chase to have a shot, but at the start you have 12 drivers with a chance, where usually by this time, you were lucky to have 3-4 drivers in the running and usually it was two drivers or a runaway. If points were the old way, we would have three in the running with Busch 124 in 3rd and ice cold; we have 6 now within 143 and 3 white hot drivers in the top 3
Pete C (Newark DE)
Is Stewart just mailing it in, seems like his performances are getting worse and worse? He looked good but no fire , I was there live and he ran 11th all day and Waltrip edged him out. That didnt seem right.
Jayski (1:16 PM)
no way Stewart mails anything in, he is trying as hard as anyone, he has 4 2nd's this year. 3 of them in the past 9 races, he wins those 3 and no one is saying he is mailing it in, no fire, did ya hear the comments about the crew a couple weeks ago, he was quite fired up
Lance (Chicago)
Who's an early favorite for this weekend?
Jayski (1:17 PM)
E A R N H A R D T, JR
Matt (Columbus)
What do you think Dale JR needs to do to get back in contention for the cup? It seems like he is struggling right now.
Jayski (1:17 PM)
wins and top fives will be a huge help
Will (Oregon)
Do you think we'll see any of these economic troubles spill over to NASCAR where teams will hurt for sponsors?
Jayski (1:20 PM)
already have, #40 shut down, Petty's with out a 2009 sponsor for the #43, #22, #10, #42, #01, #8 are among the teams looking for a sponsor
Mike (Boston, MA)
Jay, outside of the obvious favorites at this point in the chase, the 48, 99, and 16, the 29 looks like he could be a real sleeper threat for the title. Is it possible, if Kevin keeps reeling off these top 10s, that he could win the cup without winning a race? I know it seems unlikely with the likes of Kyle, Carl, Jimmie, and now Biff racking up the wins, but Harvick's got a good top 10 streak going.
Jayski (1:21 PM)
he could, but he needs the 4 drivers above him to falter, if he reels off 7 second place finishes, he could have a chance if each above him have at least one bad race
rick carlisle,pa
jayski,do you think dale jr should try to work with another crew chief i think tonyjr doesn't have what it takes to set the car up.i mean look at the 48 car,it gets better as the race goes on as opposed to junior car gets worse.i mean both teams have the same equipment.
Jayski (1:23 PM)
they tried before and DaleJr did worse, Dale Jr wanted to try another crew chief and didn't like it and got his cousin back and having Eury Jr move to Hendrick was all part of the deal, hard to compare Johnson and Knaus to others, they have a special chmeistry
Jesse (St. Louis)
What do you make of Carl Edwards saying that he was planning on running his car into the wall, but he didn't plan on it slowing him down that much?
Jayski (1:24 PM)
thought it was cool, he didn't plan to hit that hard and he found out, real racing ain't no video game
Pete C (Newark DE)
Although Gordon has run well all year, he ususally runs great, why has he been good and not great all year? Car? Crew? Him? Will he make changes for next years team?
Jayski (1:26 PM)
he ran great last year, not so great a couple years before [05-06], he and the team has had a tough handle on the COT, I have heard of no changes for him or the team besides a new black scheme in 2009
Pete C (Newark DE)
Do you see Dover keeping both races for the next few years?
Jayski (1:27 PM)
unless Bruton buys the Dover Motorsports tracks [Dover, Nashville, Gateway etc], I doubt NASCAR will move a race from there since Pocono and Dover are closest to NYC and that huge market
Ben (Sioux City)
Gordon looks like he may be starting to figure out the 1.5 milers...too little too late or can he get hot and win the whole thing? How many wins does he need in the last 7 to have a chance?
Jayski (1:29 PM)
sure he can still win it, 143 back, but as I said in other posts here, he needs to get hot and the others above need to have a bad race, once you get back 6-12th and 150 pts, the driver is at the mercy of bad luck for hose ahead of him
Mike (Boston, MA)
Do you think TRB is making a big mistake by letting Allmendinger go? Yes, Speed's got a load of upside, but AJ really has improved, and it would only be a matter of time before he starts sniffing the top 5, and wins.
Jayski (1:31 PM)
here is a rare opinion from me, yep, I think letting AJ go is a mistake, he was a trooper when Skinner replaced him and listened and learned and has not missed a race since and got into the top-35, but it looks like TRB does not want to go to 3 cars yet and someone had to go and Speed has been incredible so far. Letting AJ go now, does help him find another ride, so they are trying to help along with getting ready for 2009
Jayski (1:32 PM)
good timing, I am out of good questions and comments and it is time for me to be done, Cup head to my favorite track, Talladega, things could get shook up there for sure! Have a GREAT week
