Keith Lipscomb (3:02 PM)
It's Monday, so I'm glad to kick this thing off with a little fantasy goodness!
John (CA)
Keith--Is Kyle Orton the real deal or simply a good match-up player? THX
Keith Lipscomb (3:03 PM)
Still just good for matchups against very poor defenses in my mind. Detroit certainly fit that bill, didn't they?
James (Worcester, MA)
May I have your permission to drop Selvin Young?
Keith Lipscomb (3:04 PM)
Those Denver backs are all hard to own, especially when they get no carries inside the 10. If there's a better option on the waiver wire, you have my permission.
Mark (San Diego)
Keith, I need your honest opinion. I'm down 18pts. and I have Brees and Moore tonight. Will I win????? Thanks for your wise incite!!!!!!
Keith Lipscomb (3:06 PM)
Wise? We'll see ... but I think you should be able to get those points between those guys tonight. The key will be for Brees to not turn it over, really. With the Saints likely to have a hard time running the ball, I expect Brees to do his normal chuckin' ... and Moore is his most sure-handed option, albeit not a big-play guy.
Keith Lipscomb (3:06 PM)
And of course Bush out of the backfield, too. But I meant sure-handed WR, just to be clear.
Tim (NJ)
I have Eli and Donovan and need to trade for a RB/WR which will get more value for?
Keith Lipscomb (3:08 PM)
I think McNabb may have more name value, but either one should be able to net you a very strong player in return. Both are must-start QBs, so make sure you get a RB/WR of that level back.
Michael (Georgia)
Is it time to stash Torrain in a 10 team league? Drop Ricky Williams to grab him?
Keith Lipscomb (3:09 PM)
Yes, I think it is time, because after Week 6 is when Torain can come off the PUP list. And while Williams will still put up some productive yardage totals, Ronnie Brown is the TD scorer in Miami and as long as he stays healthy, will continue to get the majority of touches, like he did yesterday.
Tom (SoCal)
Westbrook has 2 broken ribs. Any idea how much time he'll miss?
Keith Lipscomb (3:11 PM)
It's still too early to say right now, but it would be smart to have a backup plan in place should he be forced to miss this week's game. Remember, the Eagles have a bye in Week 7, so it is possible the team may have him sit for this week, so that he gets two weeks of rest. If Buckhalter's still out there, he's decent insurance just in case, of course.
Tony (Chicago)
Keith, who is a better option for the rest of the year at WR2, Holt,Reggie Brown, or Branch(pending this injured heel)?
Keith Lipscomb (3:12 PM)
I know Holt's been very disappointing thus far, but he's still a much safer option than Brown or Branch right now.
Paul, Atlanta, GA
Do you think Reggie Bush will have a big game tonight?
Keith Lipscomb (3:13 PM)
I don't think he'll be able to run the ball at all, but he could still have one of those games where he gets 29 rushing and 79 receiving ... and you'd take that, wouldn't you?
Matt Shaub (Houston)
Will I be the starter this week against the Dolphins?? And am I a good fantasy option?
Keith Lipscomb (3:16 PM)
Well, I've never really been a huge Schaub fan (or at least not as big as other fantasy folks), so my expectations weren't so high to start with. I think he's a matchups guy, and nothing more until he can demonstrate some consistency. I would expect him to start as long as he feels fine, though, yes.
Mike (WI)
Keith, I'm down 11 going into tonights game. He has Brees and I have Lance Moore and Adrian Peterson. What are my chances in a PPR League?
Keith Lipscomb (3:17 PM)
You've got a shot, but your best chance lies with all of Brees' TDs going to Moore and Peterson having a big night, which is entirely possible. Eleven points isn't that much to make up, since AD could go crazy against a soft Saints D.
Franco (Chi-town)
Should I trade MJD away for R.Wayne? Or do you prefer the RB depth? I start Jennings, Coles, Welker, Graham, R.Brown, Forte-Flex (Also got Selvin, F.Taylor, Hightower)
Keith Lipscomb (3:19 PM)
No question, I'd do that. You've got decent depth in the backfield already and Wayne is more likely to give you consistent points each week, so you can use a WR in your flex instead.
javier (la, ca)
Should I trade away Calvin Johnson since the Lions are awful?
Keith Lipscomb (3:21 PM)
Problem is, Calvin Johnson's value isn't so high right now because the Lions are awful -- and he may have Drew Stanton throwing to him. I think you'll have to hang onto him, at least for now.
peter james (FL)
hey Keith do you think Darrell Jackson is a good pick up to replace Eddie Royal?
Keith Lipscomb (3:22 PM)
I'm not convinced Darrell Jackson will ever be consistent enough to have a weekly impact, Peter. I think Brandon Stokley is the better option, so he can work well in the slot and Cutler seems to have a nice rapport with him.
Dustin (Chicago)
Do you have any faith in Braylon? Or is that horrible offense going to limit his value?
Keith Lipscomb (3:24 PM)
It's hard to have faith the way that offense has looked, isn't it, Dustin? I still expect Edwards to have some big games, but nothing like the run he put together last season. And a lot of that has to do with the schedule they'll play, too. It's not easy, with games against the Giants, Skins, Jags and Ravens in the next 4 weeks.
Marsh (StL)
Time to get rid of LT and Megatron? Would you trade those two for Portis and Brandon Marshall if you could?
Keith Lipscomb (3:25 PM)
Of course, but it's easy to say that with LT beat up and Marshall a big upgrade over Johnson even if all things WERE equal. If you can pull it off, you'll be feeling a lot better, I'm sure.
Jason (Boston)
Good afternoon, Keith! I feel like I'm on the highway to the danger zone with my QBs. Can I rely on matchups between Warner and Hasselbeck to get to the playoffs? Or should I look into acquiring someone who won't fall apart by mid-season?
Keith Lipscomb (3:27 PM)
Nice reference! Hasselbeck is pretty tough and in a blowout game, it was wise to get him out of there as banged up as he's been. I think things get better for him, if he can stay on the field (of course) ... and I think you can win by playing matchups with those guys. I say that not knowing what kind of talent you can get via trade, though. Obviously, if you can land a top-5 QB and you've got the depth to give up, then I certainly recommend that for peace of mind each Sunday! :-)
GDUB (Bentonville, AR)
Duece.... where do you see his value going?
Keith Lipscomb (3:28 PM)
I don't expect a lot of 20-carry games like last week, that's for sure. I do think he gets the goal-line carries, which means he'll have value. But I expect him to be a streaky fantasy play and really only flex-worthy for the most part.
Korey (MI)
Is it time to sell high on Kurt Warner before the inevitable injury? I unloaded him for Braylon (I have Peyton)... bad value for me?
Keith Lipscomb (3:32 PM)
There's a solid argument to be made for dealing Warner before he gets hurt since he hasn't played 16 games in seven years! And while maybe Edwards won't get you the overall points Warner would from here on out, if you can't play both Warner and Peyton, then it doesn't do you any good to hang onto him. I think the trade is fine, if that's the best you could do in your league. Each league is totally different, as far as what you can get for certain players. Timing plays a huge role in that.
John, nyc
What's your take on FWP for the rest of the year? If I offered him for Westbrook, do you think that would be wise, taking into account Westbrook's rib injury?
Keith Lipscomb (3:34 PM)
Well, if you're trying to get the better fantasy player, now might be the best time to do it. Westbrook is a tough cookie and plays through injury, even if he's always on the injury report. Say he misses this week, he'll be back in Week 8 rarin' to go. And Parker's expected to return and I think he'll do well if he can stay healthy. I still like Westbrook more for the rest of the season, so I'd do that deal, John.
Abooguy
Should I be worried about s. holmes as my #2 WR? It seems Big Ben can't get over his bromance with Hines Ward. And now this n. washington guy is getting the non-Ward points. Is Holmes just not getting open? Bad luck? 3 passing td's last night and none went to holmes!
Keith Lipscomb (3:37 PM)
Holmes will still be the big-play guy for Roethlisberger. Hines is always going to get his targets and while Holmes still gets 6-8 targets per game, since many are downfield, it means he'll only catch 4-5 balls most weeks. That's just the way it's going to be when you own Holmes.
Chris Perry (Ann Arbor, MI)
Coincidence we have the same name, and I am curious as to what the RB's value is for the rest of the year. Droppable?
Keith Lipscomb (3:38 PM)
Well, if he continues to fumble the ball, he'll be watching Cedric Benson run it in a couple weeks. I think Benson will eat into his carries, unless Perry can make the most of his touches against the Jets this week. He's averaging 2.8 yards per carry and has two more fumbles than any other back in football. Not a good sign. Add the Bengals to the RB time-share list.
Dave Columbia, SC
I have R. Meachem, H. Ward, B. Berrian, J. Gage, and I need to drop one of them. Which one?
Keith Lipscomb (3:40 PM)
If you're looking to get consistent numbers out of your WRs, Meachem has to be the guy. While he's a huge big-play option, getting 1-2 catches a game is just not valuable enough in the grand scheme of things, even in that high-powered offense. I'd rather have the other three guys.
David (Detroit)
I have to sell high on Isaac Bruce, correct? I have T.O., Plax and Engram in a PPR league.
Keith Lipscomb (3:41 PM)
That really depends on whether you can get back what you need, David. Although Bruce hasn't caught a lot of balls, he's been very productive and is definitely J.T. O'Sullivan's favorite target when it's time to score. With 4 TDs the past three weeks, the time to pull the trigger is definitely now, though, I agree.
John (VA)
Jonathon Stewart - worth playing this week even though he didn't score any of the TD's yesterday?
Keith Lipscomb (3:43 PM)
The going will definitely be tougher against the Bucs, but I still like Stewart more than Williams fantasy-wise in the Carolina backfield. He'll get most of the goal-line carries, which helps in a true time-share.
Mike
Can i rely on Darren McFadden in the coming weeks?
Keith Lipscomb (3:44 PM)
I can't see why not. The bye week came at the right time for McFadden and with the Saints next up on the schedule, he should have a good game this week, even if he splits carries as he has all season.
Keith Lipscomb (3:45 PM)
And for the rest of the season, I expect him to emerge as the main ballcarrier, provided he remains healthy, of course.
Jenny, Boston
whats it gonna take for you to listen to a female fantasy fan? roddy white solid the rest of the year? also which D is a better option the rest of the year, Jags or Skins?
Keith Lipscomb (3:47 PM)
I liked White before the season, because he put up big numbers with 3 different QBs last year, and he's doing it with a rookie this year, albeit a mature rookie in Matt Ryan. And I think of defenses more on a matchup basis, when discussing two solid options, but I'd rather have the Jags D for the entire season, if I had to pick one.
Shaun, nyc
I can't seem to get any takers on Kurt Warner, so my question is this: would you consider starting him over Peyton Manning (currently starting for me) at least until he shows flashes of his old self (in any time OTHER than a desperate 4th quarter comeback)?
Keith Lipscomb (3:49 PM)
Sure, I would consider it, but I'd likely start Manning on any week in which they both have similar matchups. I'm not above rocking the boat a little with my lineups, going against the grain. But remember, all numbers count the same in fantasy, even if most of 'em come in the 4th quarter!
Shaun (Italy, TX)
Michael Bush's value going forward?
Keith Lipscomb (3:50 PM)
Bush's value is tied to McFadden and Fargas. He's still No. 3 in that pecking order, so as long as those other two are healthy, he won't be very useful in fantasy.
Mark (Akron)
PLEASE HELP.. Need some FLEX HELP..PPR league, Pick 2 from Sproiles, Deuce, Engram, Muhammed, Reg Brown, Thank You
Keith Lipscomb (3:53 PM)
Sproles is only a factor if LT's going to miss time for sure. Tough to play that guessing game, otherwise.I want to see how Deuce is used against a tough run D tonight, but if he gets at least 15 touches again, and can be a force at the goal-line, he makes himself worth using. And of the receivers, I like Engram and Brown most, in that order. Engram is the only good (and healthy) option in Seattle and they will have to throw, still. Depending on how Deuce is used, I'd go Engram/McAllister or Engram/Brown.
Keegan (Sioux Falls, SD)
LenDale White or Ryan Torain rest of the year?
Keith Lipscomb (3:55 PM)
Torain is an unknown quantity and as much as the buzz is all about him being relevant when he's activated, who's to say he definitely steals goal-line carries from Pittman ... or gets more than 7-8 carries a game. You just never know with Shanahan. And while White didn't get used much yesterday, that Ravens D is fast and I'm guessing Jeff Fisher felt it was better to go with a speed option like Johnson instead. Just a guess there. So I think White still gets goal-line carries and will score a handful of TDs the rest of the way, while Torain has the higher ceiling, but could also do next to nothing.
Jon (Mad-town)
When will it be time to drop Ryan Grant?
Keith Lipscomb (3:57 PM)
I'm frustrated by Grant, too, since I've got him in a couple leagues, but I think you have to be encouraged by the fact he got 18 of the 20 carries by Packer backs yesterday. I'm just being patient and if he can't run on Seattle or Indy the next two weeks, then maybe he won't run at all this season.
Jake (Ann Arbor)
Should I trade brian westbrook for brandon marshall and jerricho cotchery? my other rbs are michael turner, lendale white, and steve slaton
Keith Lipscomb (4:00 PM)
If you do that, just know that you won't have any guaranteed production each week anymore in your backfield. While Slaton and Turner have had some great games so far, their production will be up and down. No doubt Marshall and Cotchery are great adds for your receiving corps, but if you do it, just know that getting 84 yards and a TD on a "bad day" like Westbrook had yesterday is a lot less likely.
Jon (Mad-town)
I need a #1 receiver especially now that Boldin is out. Which of these RBs should I trade to net me a #1 plus a D, Barber, R. Bush, Slaton, Portis, or Hightower.
Keith Lipscomb (4:01 PM)
Well, Barber's probably your best bet to get a No. 1, because of his TD production, but it's possible that Bush or Portis could do the trick, depending on your leaguemates! Good luck.
Keith Lipscomb (4:02 PM)
Well, it's time to hand it off to Gary Horton, who breaks it all down! Thanks for all the questions everyone.
Buzzmaster (4:03 PM)
We've got Gary!
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:06 PM)
I don't know if I've ever seen more balance in the NFL. Even the elite teams seem to struggle from week to week. We have some great division races shaping up. All eight divisions are going to go down to the wire and I don't know if we've ever seen a division as good as the NFC East. If you're an NFL fan, you've got a good chance in a lot of NFC cities to have playoff hopes late in the season, which doesn't always happen.
jimmy (gloucester, va)
Gary,Whats up my man?!!! The Redskins defense has looked impressive against the NFL's elite offensive teams (NYG, NO, Arizona, Dallas, and Phili). They're ranked middle of the pack right now - should we be showing the Skins D more love?
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:08 PM)
I think you're probably on to something. We're so impressed right now with their offense that we don't give their defense a lot of credit. I've watched them a lot this week and I'm impressed with how physical their corners are playing....Springs shut down TO. This week against Philly, they blitzed more with man coverage on the corners and safety help over the top. While they don't have a great pass rush, I think the key to their defense is their ability to put those corners on an island with a physical style of play, which allows them to blitz
Justin (Chicago)
Over/Under Bears finish at 9-7. Bonus: The division is theirs.
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:10 PM)
I think that's a real possibility in this division, because Green Bay and Minnesota are underachieving. This now looks like a three-team race. We're going to like the Bears defense almost every week. But it's the maturation of Kyle Orton that really impresses me right now. I watched some film on him today and, while he has all the physical tools, including arm strength and accuracy, I really think his decision making and ability to make the right read is improving on a weekly basis. When he feels the blitz, he can hit his hot receiver. He is actually going to his second and third option, which I didn't see early in the season. The Bears aren't flashy, but you're going to have to play a solid game to beat them.
Jimmy (RI)
Do you see AP running wild tonight? The Saints run defense is pretty weak.
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:12 PM)
I agree with you, but I don't think that AP will have a huge game, even with LT McKinney back from a suspension. While I love his running skills, I have watched both teams on film this week and I can't tell you how impressed I am with the New Orleans offense. They spread the field. Brees gets the ball out so quickly, it's impossible to sack him and he's great at finding matchups. Because of that, I think New Orleans will score quickly and build a lead and take the Vikings out of their run game and force Ferrotte to throw, which is certainly not their strength.
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:12 PM)
So, as strange as it sounds, in my opinion, it's the New Orleans offense that will take the game away from AP.
John (Florida)
As a Vikings fan I feel like we haven't seen anywhere close to their best yet and still have hope for their season. Do you think they have a legit shot at the playoffs?
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:14 PM)
I do, because we now know that there is not elite team in the NFC North. But I also think that the Vikings have flaws that they may not overcome. I don't think you can win in this league by just having your RB carry the load. Even the teams that have won in recent years, with a great running attack and a game manager at QB, had elite defenses. While I love the Minnesota front seven, they can easily be attacked on the back end. Good passing teams like New Orleans can exploit them, especially with them struggling right now to get good pass rush pressure on opposing QBs.
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:15 PM)
I think some of these weaknesses will be too tough to overcome.
Will (Fairfield, CT)
What are your thoughts on Jamal Lewis the rest of the way?
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:16 PM)
I think Jamal Lewis runs hard. He's still a quality, between the tackles back. But I think he's a guy that needs a lot of carries to be successful and wear down defenses. When I look at the browns, I don't always see a real consistent gameplan where they use him properly. In my mind, he needs 20-25 carries a game to really be successful and set up their passing game.
Roger(Jax. FL)
How do you think the Dolphins will do the rest of the season? Next week they have the sloppy lookin texans and are on could be 3-2 next week.
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:18 PM)
I think they're one of the great stories of this early 2008 season. They now look like a professional football team to me. They're organized. They're well coached. They play with discipline and enthusiasm. Even though they're not as talented as the elite teams, they at least make you come with your ''A'' game to beat them. In my opinion, in the last two weeks, they've outcoached superior opponents - New England and San Diego. That tells you a lot about the character and makeup of this team. They're on their way to doing some special things, even if they aren't a playoff team.
Jake (Philly)
Your thoughts on Matt Forte wearing down this year?
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:20 PM)
That's always a problem. We've seen many times in the past that this is a long NFL season. If a rookie is getting a lot of carries early, when you hit that December wall, where he's played 10 or 11 seasons, which is a full college season, they can really start to tail off. But, we've only played five weeks and there is no excuse right now for being worn down. I actually just watched some film today on the Bears and I really like Forte as an outlet receiver out of the backfield. He seems to catch the ball naturally and he has a feel on how to settle in the zones. Even if he starts to tire as a runner, he could still show some production late in the season as an outlet receiver.
Robert (LA, CALI)
The Cowboys to me, even with a win yesterday, do not look like the team everyone is saying they are. Everyone keeps talking about weapons. Outside of their Rbs, DLine, and TO, what are people talking about?
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:24 PM)
I could not agree with you more that there's something missing with this team. They just appear to be a little soft at times. You get the feeling that some of their sloppiness comes from the fact that they think they can make a mistake and still dial up a big play any time they need one. That's not going to be the case every week. The game plan they showed yesterdday, by concentrating on the run with Barber and Jones and then getting the ball to Witten over the middle is their recipe for success. When that run game works, TO will get great perimeter matchups. But that's going to require patience. This team has a lot of playmakers and they have every ingredient to win a Super Bowl. But when you get to January and you make one or two sloppy plays on offense, or if you commit a turnover, that can be a difference in advancing or going home. Right now, I'm just not sure they have that mindset come playoff time.
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:24 PM)
I look at the Cowboys and San Diego in kind of the same way. They're so talented that they think they can overcome any mistakes that they make.
Justin ( Queens, NY)
Ryan Grant hasn't been himself (or the Ryan from last year)...Is his slow start due conditioning (result from the injured hammy), lose of Brett Farve (D- making Rodgers beat them deep) or was last year merely a mirage? Thanks for the insight.
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:26 PM)
I think all of those questions are valid. Part of the problem is they haven't really committed to running the ball a lot so far this season. Though he did have 18 carries yesterday. But he doesn't look like the same guy to me. While I hate to say it, the thought has crossed my mind that maybe he is a little bit of a one-year wonder and not necessarily the guy that we saw last year. Remember, when Favre was the QB of this team, they were so wide open and they spread the field so well that Grant never had to run against a base defense. When you have defenses playing to stop the pass with nickel and dime personnel, it's really going to open up your run game and run lanes.
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:26 PM)
I loved Grant a year ago, so I'm hoping that he will get back in sync.
Josh (LA)
Hey Gary! How will the Vikings D match up against a back like R. Bush? Do you see him having a big night?
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:29 PM)
I think the fact that McAllister is back, really helps Bush. McAllister is now a legit, between the tackles threat. That can force Minnesota to play base defensive personnel, which means that Bush has a chance to get a great matchup against a LB or safety. I also think that the Saints ability to spread the field in multi-receiver sets makes it very difficult to roll coverages or double cover a guy. That gives Bush an advantage. Finally, the weakness of this Vikings defense is on the back end, especially inside at safety, where you can attack them in the passing game. I think Bush can be very effective there tonight on some circle routes and any play he releases into the middle of the field, even though we all think of him as a perimeter guy.
John (FL)
If the Vikings lay an egg tonight could Childress be on the hotseat? Possibly fired even?
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:31 PM)
No, I don't think so. I think this is a pretty stable organization. I think he has a good relationship with his owner. But having said that, this is also a team that's spent a lot of money in the offseason because they thought they were a Super Bowl contender. I think the pressure will become very apparent, if they continue to lose. It will all go back to what looks like now to be a mis-evaluation of the QB position. That probably falls on the coach. I think Brad Childress is an excellent football coach. He has an excellent offensive mind. But it's obvious that this team is underachieving right now, especially that they're in a division that doesn't have a super team. That probably gives them more pressure to stay in the playoff hunt.
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:33 PM)
I've looked at a lot of film on both of these teams. While I hope that it's a good game, I just can't get past the fact that the New Orleans offense is explosive and could take away what Minnesota does best in the running game. I know a lot of people are picking the Vikings because of what they think AP can do against taht Saints defense. I may be off, but I think the Saints can win by two TDs. I think they're really a team to watch. With that offense, they can be a run of the mill defense and still win.
Buzzmaster (4:36 PM)
Thanks Gary! Next up is Ken Moll of Scouts Inc. He'll be by at the top of the hour!
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:02 PM)
Hey Boys let's get this show going!!!
Rob (Frankfort, IL)
What kind of numbers will Gus Frerotte post tonight???
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:03 PM)
Rob,I believe he'll be attempting high percentage passes but A.P. is going to be force fed the ball. He'll do well as the Saints aren't great at rushing the passer.
Todd (HB)
Broken ribs...season ending?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:05 PM)
Todd,I'm sure your speaking of Westbrook. I don't believe it's season ending but will likely miss several weeks (4to 6) and wear extra protective gear when he returns.
Dan (FL )
What do you think of Derek Anderson and Braylon Edwards going up against the NY Giants D? Also Tim Hightower has been very productive near the goal line, do you think the Cardinals will continue giving him the ball in the red zone?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:07 PM)
Dan,The Giants are great at rushing a stationary passer like D.A. so this might not be the best week for Edwards. If Hightower is effective in the RED zone , which he is , he'll continue to get it in scoring situations.
Greg, Southern California
Drew Brees' top two targets-Colston and Shockey- are out for at least a few more weeks. Can he continue to put up big, gaudy numbers before they return? And will his numbers get a bump when Shockey and Colston do return?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:09 PM)
Greg,There is no question that Brees would love to have Colston and Shockey back to throw to but Sean Payton will tweak the game plan to get it to Devery Henderson and Patten more on the perimeter. He won't keep marking up these big numbers with out his starters but will continue to do well as he is excellent at finding open receivers when given time.
Jack (VA)
True or False?:Cedric Benson will be the Bengals starting RB by week 8.
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:11 PM)
Jack,It may happen much quicker than that. I hear they like what they see from him and as soon as he learns the entire playbook he'll be in there. Perry has lost the rock too often and you just can't have that.
Jeff (Evans, GA)
How big do you think the win in Green Bay was for the Falcon's yesterday?...They seem to be well ahead of schedule as far as rebuilding goes.
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:13 PM)
Jeff,I know General Manager Tommy Dimetroff well and he will get this club on track in a hurry. The win was excellent (especially for the young QB). This may give the Falcons a ton of confidence going forward.
Ryan (SF)
Name game: Rodgers or Big Ben the rest of the way?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:13 PM)
Ryan,Not even close- BIG BEN !
ray gordon reid OXFORD MS 38655
question to ken moll t 5.15 pm hi ken your thoughts on eli playing so far
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:16 PM)
Ray,Obviously he has been excellent thus far and if the Giants continue to call a balanced offensive game he will continue to do well. He isn't one to put it up 40 times and wins many games (though he has the talent to do it ).
Roy (AR)
Do you think the Cowboys are headed in the right direction after the win? Cardinals upset the Bills and could be pumped against the boys. And do you know a way to get T.O more catches? He produces when he gets open. Also Do you think that the Cowboys coaches will give Felix the cat more carries. Also, who do you think is not stepping up like he should at the wide receiver position? Lastly what is the status on Sam Haurd?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:22 PM)
Roy,The BOYS haven't looked good the past two weeks but have the talent to turn it around in a hurry. They will have to play better to get a victory in the desert. T.O often draws lots of attention (roll coverage , double coverage, etc.) which makes Romo go to other options. He appears to be getting more attention from Romo than other QB's he ahs played with - Romo makes a concerted effort to get him the ball. I would get Fleix at least ten touches per game. It keeps Barber fresh and adds another dimension to the Dallas ground attack. Don't know about Haurd and I don't see anyone not stepping up at the WR position.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
I am a distraught Bengal fan and I am sick to my stomach that they can never turn it around and yet I watch the Dolphins go from pathetic to beating the Patriots and Chargers as well as the Falcons with 3 wins while "rebuilding." What is the problem with the Bengal organization? And I dont want to hear distraction talk??
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:24 PM)
Mike,I was in the league for 13 seasons and though the Brown family are "good people" , they are old school. I believe a new sweeping approach (personnel front office people, coach ) and Philosophy needs to be implimented with the Bengals. It can be done but not sure it will be done.
Jack Meahoffy (Jergin, IT)
I'm a huge lions fan and seem to get disappointed every year!!!!....is there ever going to be something positive to come out of the "D" when it comes to FOOTBALL?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:26 PM)
Jack,If they hire the right GM and possible new head coach the LIONS will be competitive within a couple of years. Lots of mistakes made in the Motor city and no one would admitt it. Almost have to start from scratch.
Ace (Pittsburgh, PA)
Tampa and Carolina, next week, who ya got? And give me a big upset next week. I have the Rams beating the 'Skins out of nowhere.
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:29 PM)
Ace,I would take Carolina and that's not a bad call for the Skins falling to the Rams -- It sounds crazy but any team can hav an off day and the Rams have decent talent. (not great but decent )
Patrick J. (Ocala, FL)
Which will happen first... A game in which Tony Romo does not turn the ball over (I think it is 8 straight) or a Cowboys DB gets an interception (I think it has been 7 games)?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:31 PM)
Patrick, WOW that's a good ? I would say the Boys secondary will get a pick soon - I don't see Tony changing his gunslinger mentality. With Romo you get the good with the bad- He makes some plays that many other QB's can't but also forces it too often.
Ben (Pittsburgh)
After the steelers road win at Jacksonville, are they a serious playoff contender?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:32 PM)
Ben,I would say they need to stay healthy but I see them winning the division with a 10-6 record.
nic ( asland, oh)
do u think the steelers are the best team n the afc despite tennesses record?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:34 PM)
Nic,They are the best in the AFC North but beyond that I'm not sure - Too many Injuries.
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:34 PM)
Cole (TN)
Wow .... Texans favored over the Dolphins by a FG next week. Dolphins coming off 2 straight wins over the Pats and Chargers. I say Vegas knows something and the Texans are a lock. Thoughts?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:35 PM)
Cole,The Texans sould have won last week and will play well at home vs. the Fins. I pick the Texans to win also in ta close match up.
Ronnie (MIA)
Am I for real? Or should fantasy owners sell high?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:37 PM)
Ronnie,I believe lots of your yards have come from the Wildcat formation and defensive coordinators will have a game plan for that trickery soon. Your still a great bac but I don't see these kind of numbers much longer.
Antwan (Compton, Cali)
Yo man, I need to pick between Jonathan Stewart and Ryan Grant fo da rest of da year?Who ya got?!
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:38 PM)
Antwan,Take Stewart !!
victor monroe,la
Do you think deuce will start tonight?your thoughts.
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:40 PM)
Victor,Not sure if he will start but he'll get his touches. Deuce gives the saints a differnent dimension with their ground attack.
Chris (Hou)
Speaking of Ronnie, who would you take the rest of the season: Ronnie, LJ, Slaton?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:41 PM)
Chris , I think I might take Slaton !!
Aaron (Colorado Springs)
Are my Broncos for real or not? I think so...you?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:42 PM)
Aaron,The Broncos are a good football team but I worry when the weather turns cold and the passing game isn't as effective. (GOOD TEAM not GREAT)
Damien (ky)
can the eagles win without westbrook
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:44 PM)
Damien,Much of the Eagles offense is built around Westbrook and his talents. It's tough to win without Westbrook but they need to play better defensively.
Mike
How much room for error does Matt Cassel have before the pats look elsewhere?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:45 PM)
Mike,I think Cassell has a longer rope than most think as they don't have anyone better to go to.
Denver,CO
What is the key for the Minnesota VIKINGS to stop the passing game of the Saints?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:46 PM)
Denver,The Vikes have to get pressure and flush Brees out of the pocket.
galen new orleans,la
will bress have enough protection?????
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:49 PM)
Galen,That's the key to the game tonight. If the Vikes can't get to him they loose, if they can pressure Brees they have a chance.
Russ (IA)
Is Pierre Thomas done with the resurgance of Duece?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:50 PM)
Russ,I would say that Thomas will have limited carries with Deuce back in town !
Tomo (Tempe)
Looking foward to next week, which match up do you like best?Fred Taylor @ DenverRyan Grant @ SeattleDarren McFadden @ New OrleansThanks!
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:51 PM)
Tomo,I think I like McFadden @ the Saints
St.Paul MN
Can the vikings Offense score points in this game to win
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:52 PM)
St. Paul,Yes they can but the "D" has to hold the Saints under 28 points
jon (CA)
who do you think will end up winning the NFC East? and is it fair to say the NFC East winner is thus the best candidate for the superbowl victor?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:54 PM)
Jon,I know they haven't played well the past two weeks but I would take the BOYS (they have the most talent) ----
Walter
are the pats a playoff team still
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:56 PM)
Walter,They still have lots of talent on that club but it won't be easy- watch out for the Bills and Jets
Matt (Duluth, MN)
Got a prediction tonight?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:58 PM)
Matt, Vikes- 27Saints-26
Tim (FL)
Rank the QB's in the NFC East!
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:59 PM)
TimRomo, McNabb, Manning and Campbell
Walter(Ma)
Ken,Is it me or does it look like Marion Barber isn't getting enough looks in the Dallas offense
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (6:00 PM)
Walter,It's tough to spread it around to all the talent they have ( Barber, Jones, Whitten, T.O, and others)
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (6:00 PM)
Should be a great game tonight - Let's talk next week- Later
Aaron Schatz of Football Outsiders (6:03 PM)
OK, guess that makes it my turn. Let's take some questions...
Nick (Metairie, La)
Whats key for the saints to accomplish tonight in order to come out with a win?
Aaron Schatz of Football Outsiders (6:07 PM)
Protect Drew Brees from the Vikings pass rush. We know the Vikings are amazing on run D, more average on pass D. That's not a big issue for the Saints because their offense is so heavily weighted towards the pass rather than the run. But Brees won't be able to find guys open if he's under pressure. The Saints don't give up sacks, but that doesn't mean they don't give up pressure -- Brees just knows to throw it away better than most quarterbacks. And the Vikings will bring a pass rush, they pressure quarterbacks more than their sack numbers would indicate.
Frank: (MS)
5th grade flashback .... Fill in the blank. With the 1st pick in the 2009 draft, the Cincinnati Bengals select ______.
Aaron Schatz of Football Outsiders (6:08 PM)
Michael Oher, left tackle, Ole Miss
Kyle Cincinnati, OH
I have Bernard Berrian and Devery Henderson on my team and am down 7 points. Which should I start?
Aaron Schatz of Football Outsiders (6:09 PM)
Berrian. He's the number one receiver there, even if that's like being number three in Indianapolis. Henderson isn't one of the top guys with the Saints, and he's more hit-or-miss, which would be good if you needed 15 points, but not so good when you need 7.
Jeff (PA)
I have guy who wants Jay Cutler in my league. He is wiling to give me Eli Manning and 1) J. Stewart or 2) An. Johnson
Aaron Schatz of Football Outsiders (6:11 PM)
Obviously, this depends on what else you have on your team at the WR and RB positions, but Cutler's schedule of opposing defenses is just as easy in the future as it has been so far. Manning's schedule gets a lot harder after Week 7.
Hopeful Vike (mn)
Who will be the starter at the end of the season for the vikes? start of 2009??
Aaron Schatz of Football Outsiders (6:12 PM)
Steve Hutchinson, of course. Wait, were you talking about a different position?
Dylan (Brooklyn)
What's wrong with Santonio Holmes? Until this week I excused him due to weather and Ben's injury, but last night he seemed like an afterthought in the Pitt offense, even with ben throwing it all over the place
Aaron Schatz of Football Outsiders (6:13 PM)
I'm as stumped as you are. I don't see any reason to explain why Holmes didn't take the next step forward this year. He still might take it in the last 10 weeks, of course.
Matthew (Warren, MI)
flashback .... Fill in the blank. With the 1st pick in the 2009 draft, the Detroit Lions select ______.
Aaron Schatz of Football Outsiders (6:14 PM)
Wait, I thought we already established that the Bengals have the first pick next year. Did they trade down?
kyle(Duluth,MN)
If the Vikings lose tonight do you think we will start hearing whispers of a coaching change in Minnesota?
Aaron Schatz of Football Outsiders (6:15 PM)
If you aren't hearing those whispers already, you may want to consider investing in a hearing aid.
TJ (San Fran)
Hey Aaron! When is Colston REALLY coming back? Can we expect #1 WR numbers from him?
Aaron Schatz of Football Outsiders (6:16 PM)
There doesn't seem to be a lot of information floating around out there when it comes to this injury, but my guess is that he will return in Week 10. I don't see any reason for his numbers to suffer. The thumb may cause him to drop an extra ball or two, but it doesn't change his abilities to run crisp routes and get open.
Eli (NYC)
Pick tonight's game for us ... and confidence level in your pick
Aaron Schatz of Football Outsiders (6:19 PM)
Minnesota, but my confidence level is roughly equal to Dustin Pedroia's playoff batting average.
John (TX)
Do you think its a good idea to trade Big Ben...his playoff schedule (Weeks 14-16) absolutely scares me [DAL, @BAL, @TEN)
Aaron Schatz of Football Outsiders (6:20 PM)
Yes. If you are in a playoff league, he's not a good guy to have. Although you have to get enough wins to be IN the playoffs, of course.
Frank (Ohio)
Do the Browns have ANY chance to salvage the season or should we be hoping for a high draft pick?
Aaron Schatz of Football Outsiders (6:21 PM)
I don't see any reason to believe the Browns are going to the playoffs. Their schedule doesn't get any easier. They haven't really been playing better than their record. I already thought before 2008 began that this looked like the kind of year where they would take a step backwards from the gains of 2007 -- what Bill James used to call the "Plexiglass Principle." I don't think they'll go 4-12, but I think they'll transition to using more of their younger players, maybe try Quinn out, and have an eye on 2009.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Can the Raven offense get it together enough this season for the Ravens to challenge for a wildcard spot and be a legitimate threat in the playoffs? Their defense is nasty!
Aaron Schatz of Football Outsiders (6:23 PM)
Our projections before the season had Baltimore winning the AFC North and despite their 2-2 record, I am sticking with that projection. Based on our advanced DVOA stats, they've been better than the Steelers so far this year. Yes, Pittsburgh won when the two teams played each other, but they won at home by a close margin. That's a sign of two equal teams, not one team that's better than the other.
Joe (NYC)
You must be sick of getting hate mail from us Giants fans. So I'll give you a chance to get yourself off of the griddle. What does your hideously flawed system think of the Giants five weeks in, and what do you, as a human with an opinion, think of them?
Aaron Schatz of Football Outsiders (6:25 PM)
The Giants lead the NFL in DVOA after five weeks. Which, based on your opinion of the Football Outsiders stats, must mean that they actually suck. I hope the cognitive dissonance does not give you a headache.
jack (conn)
i was offered peyton manning for torry holt and marquis colston.. should i accept?
Aaron Schatz of Football Outsiders (6:27 PM)
Yes, absolutely. Holt is nowhere near the receiver he once was, due to knee problems and the crumbling offense around him. Colston is great but not coming back until midseason. I see no reason why Manning won't return to his usual level of play and be one of the top three fantasy quarterbacks for the rest of the year.
Ed (Brooklyn)
Going forward ... Chris Johnson or Ronnie Brown?
Aaron Schatz of Football Outsiders (6:30 PM)
Man, tough one. I have to make the same decision in one of my leagues -- I have terrible wide receivers but amazing running back depth and need to trade someone. Anyway, I digress. This is a hard choice. Making it even more complicated: According to average DVOA of opponents, the Titans and Dolphins have the two easiest remaining schedules in the NFL! I would go with Brown, I guess, for two reasons. One, he's more clearly the goal-line choice, while the Titans will be giving lots of those carries to LenDale White. Two, if you are in a conventional league with playoffs, the Dolphins have just a sick schedule Weeks 14-16: Bills, 49ers, Chiefs. The Titans have to face Pittsburgh Week 16.
Mike (Austin)
Love the work over at FO. How do you see the loss of Henderson for the Vikings in the short term (tonight's game)?
Aaron Schatz of Football Outsiders (6:34 PM)
I'm not sure. He's a good player, definitely. However, you'll hear announcers say something like "Henderson gets 10 tackles a game, and when you take that out of the Vikings defense, it is going to hurt." But you aren't taking that out of the Vikings defense. MLB get tackles. That's what they do. You could stick a potato out there and it would end up with a few tackles. We have no way yet of measuring how many plays Henderson makes vs. a replacement-level MLB. It may only be a couple.
Isaiah (TX)
Just for safety B. Jackson or F. Jackson
Aaron Schatz of Football Outsiders (6:36 PM)
Brandon Jackson has more chance of playing and plays better when he's in there.
Jonathan (Davie, FL)
You really think Chris Johnson compares to Ronnie Brown? Ronnie is a beast!
Aaron Schatz of Football Outsiders (6:37 PM)
Yes, but Chris Johnson is a cheetah.
jake (ohio)
Do you think the Redskins wins against the Cowboys and Eagles could give them a big boost?
Aaron Schatz of Football Outsiders (6:37 PM)
Yes. I also think the team that scores more points has a good chance of winning the game.
nick(ohio)
i belive drew brees throws 4 350+ yards tonite
Aaron Schatz of Football Outsiders (6:38 PM)
4,350 yards would break the NFL single-game record, so I have my doubts. Still, it is nice to have a set of strong, comfortable beliefs.
Bryan (MA)
Rest of the year, Brett Favre or Big Ben?
Aaron Schatz of Football Outsiders (6:41 PM)
It depends which is more important to you: doing well for most of the season to get into the fantasy playoffs, or winning the fantasy playoffs assuming you can get there. Big Ben will be better most of the year, but he has very tough matchups in Weeks 14-16.
Mark (Dallas)
T. Romo and A. Rodgers are my two fantasy QBs. Both have comparable fantasy numbers. I'm hesitant to sit Romo because he's a proven QB (and I'm biased). Who would you play next week?
Aaron Schatz of Football Outsiders (6:43 PM)
The point of fantasy football is to have fun, right? So if you have two players who you think have equal value, you always play the one who plays for your favorite team.
jake (ohio)
Is Adrian Peterson and Reggie Bush both rushing for 175+ yards tonight seem possible?
Aaron Schatz of Football Outsiders (6:45 PM)
Sure. The odds are higher than the odds of Bob Barr winning tomorrow night's Presidential debate, and lower than the odds of Bob Barr being elected King of All Elephants.
B. Edwards (Cle)
Do you see me turning around? I did score at the end of my last game
Aaron Schatz of Football Outsiders (6:47 PM)
Oh, sure. Even if the Browns don't turn it around and start winning again, it is hard to imagine that Braylon Edwards is going to average 20 yards per game for the rest of the year. He'll have some big days eventually.
Edgardo (San Francisco)
Predict the future Aaron! I'm down by half a point with Lance Moore left to play. My opponent has Ryan Longwell. Who wins?
Aaron Schatz of Football Outsiders (6:47 PM)
The Red Sox.
Ed (Atlanta)
Time to get whatever I can for Ryan Grant? He won me the championship last year but now my team has only 1 rushing TD this season...
Aaron Schatz of Football Outsiders (6:48 PM)
I'm not sure why Grant is playing poorly this year but he was a bit better in Week 5, and you have to think that the Green Bay offensive line is going to play better, like they did last year. Don't give up hope yet.
Getting BOLDin Seattle.
Do you like Boldin's chances of playing next week. I'm sure he would love to play in the same game as T.O.?
Aaron Schatz of Football Outsiders (6:51 PM)
Uh, the dude broke his face. I'm guessing he doesn't play again until Week 8.
Brent Dlugach: (FL)
Would you trade AP for any RB for the rest of the year?
Aaron Schatz of Football Outsiders (6:54 PM)
Well, the only two guys I think are better for fantasy when healthy are LT and Brian Westbrook, and neither of those guys is healthy. So no, I would not.
John (IL)
Any chance Warner stays healthy all season? If so, the Cardinals seem pretty dangerous, no?
Aaron Schatz of Football Outsiders (6:57 PM)
Well, they look good so far, but I don't see any reason to believe this Cardinals team is significantly better than the Cardinals teams of recent years. They're basically depending on the same players. Warner does tend to get nicked up, and he's old, and he'll go through one of those periods where he has trouble with the QB-center exchange. However, with the Seahawks crushed by injuries, the Cardinals are the favorite to win the NFC West right now. I don't think that counts as dangerous, but it is something for Cardinals fans to celebrate.
LD (Atlanta)
Why is Brees now being considered one of the best in the game? He's been playing tremedously well since 2006
Aaron Schatz of Football Outsiders (7:01 PM)
Oh, I don't think anything as changed when it comes to the conventional wisdom about Drew Brees. When the Saints had the amazing season in 2006, he was pretty much lifted up into the "second level" of quarterbacks behind Manning and Brady, alongside guys like Palmer and (a healthy) McNabb. I think at this point everyone agrees he's a very good quarterback. Perhaps the reason why you are hearing more about it lately is that with Brady out for the year and Manning struggling behind a banged-up line, lots of reporters are out there trying to do stories along the lines of "Who takes the mantle from Brady and Manning?" Nobody is taking the mantle from Brady and Manning. There's no reason to believe those guys won't be the top two quarterbacks again in 2009, and it is hard to argue with the idea that Brees should be third or fourth, right behind them.
Aaron Schatz of Football Outsiders (7:02 PM)
All right, y'all. Time to jet, thanks for supporting Football Outsiders material on ESPN. Enjoy the game tonight.
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:03 PM)
Thanks Aaron.. OK, MNF fans.. Vikings and Saints.. good game??
Johno Tempe, AZ
Vikings took a huge hit with Henderson gone for the year today and no viable back up, not to mention no sign of M. Williams coming back anytime soon, and possibly a way overpaid DE in Allen, how big of a disappointment is this team on D?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:06 PM)
Johno, I'd have to say that they are one of the biggest disappointments in the league, not only with their defense but their overall record. I think Allen will catch on fire, before the season is over, and their ground game will take a step up now that McKinnie is back.. They love to run AP to the left and McKinnie is one of the better left tackles in the league, especially when it comes to run blocking.
John (FL)
Are the Vikings really not a good team or just underachieving? In either case how much do you feel Childress is to blame?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:08 PM)
John.. It always comes back to the HC.. However they would be playing better if they had a "good" (not even a great) QB behind the center.
Jmaes G (Milw, WI)
Hey Mr. Kretz!!! Rest of the year, Jamal Lewis or Thomas Jones? Thanks!
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:08 PM)

georgiee81(cali)
Why does everyone think the Cowboys aint that good because they lost to the redskins by 2 points and only beat the bangles by 9 points..when the giants got outscore by the redskins on the second half of the first game.and they only beat the same bangels by 2 points on over time
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:10 PM)
Not sure who thinks the Cowboys "aint that good". They are one of the most talented teams in the league and, remember, it's a 16 game season. Don't bail out on the 'Boys, yet.
Joe Pittsburgh,PA
Hello Doug, BIG win by the Steelers yesterday, Ben's play in the 4th quarter ESPY worthy?? Thanks Doug
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:11 PM)
Big Ben has, rather quietly, become one of the better 4th quarter QBs in the league. "experts" like him but don't seem to give him as much credit as he deserves, possibly because of their dominating defense, which gets all the love.
George (Nashville)
Hey Doug, Ravens fans are whining about the roughing the passer foul penalty in yesterday's game. It definitely was a ticky-tack foul, but shouldn't they be more worried about the fact that their vaunted defense gave up two long scoring drives to the Titans in the 4th quarter? Tennessee still had to go 65 yards to get a TD AFTER that call. Secondly, does the NFL change the guidelines for calling roughing the passer in the offseason? There has been a lot of controversy concerning that penalty, seems like...
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:14 PM)
One play never causes any single team to loose a game. Tennessee is now my pick to play in the SB.. Not sure the league changes anything on the roughing guidelines.. Many believe the QB should be wearing a dress, as it is. Helmet to helmet contact is a point of emphasis, these days and that's about as much as the refs need to look for.
John (FL)
OK, so do you think the Vikings made a mistake benching TJax? Do you think we will see Tavaris back on the field this year? Or ever?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:16 PM)
John, I'm not a big fan of TJax.. I think they have the right guy, now. Jackson may end up being a quality QB but he should have been on the bench all along. It's just asking too much for a young QB to learn how to read coverages and lead a team in his first 2-3 years. Very few come in and start playing well before their 3rd or 4th year and a lot have washed out because they played too early.
Josh (WA)
The vikings made a mistake in not getting a better QB than Jackson. Hard to believe a QB coach could hold on to him. When he has failed to perform.
Kyle Orton (CHI)
Is it time to take me serious?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:17 PM)
Not until you can grow a thicker beard than you curently have. Orton is playing well but he is more of a game manager than a QB that can raise the level of his team.
Tom (PA)
Does DeSean Jackson still have value the rest of the year? I'm worried yesterday was a sign of things to come.
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:19 PM)
Yes, he has value.. He's a rookie, remember.. Rookies simply are not consistent, for the most part. He will have big games but will also struggle against some defenses..
Eric (MN)
Marion Barber looked very pedestrian yesterday. Will he be losing more and more carries to Jones or will he remain a top RB in the league?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:21 PM)
He will remain a top RB.. How many carries and how he will be used will be determined by the fronts the 'Boys face.. Barber and Jones have very different styles and can be effective in different ways..
Tom (Chicago, IL)
Trade P. Manning for Calvin Johnson?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:22 PM)
No, Manning is just starting to get untracked.. The O line is becoming healthy and, remember he missed a lot of the pre-season..
ismak calexico ca.
prediction in the monday night
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:23 PM)
AP gets a LOT of yards but NO wins.. by 7 points.
Sandra (Boone, NC)
Whats up with Schaub? He's my only QB. Pick up OSullivan, Cassel, or Pennington?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:25 PM)
I like Pennington, especially with the way opponents are going to have to start respecting Miami's ground game.
Joe (Pittsburgh,Pa)
Doug, I think the steelers bye week couldnt come at a better time., Looks like parker, Hampton and Keisel will be back for the Bungle Game. Your thoughts? Thanks
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:26 PM)
I agree.. They managed to eke out a win yesterday (against a dangerous team) so this is a great weekend to recover and get everyone healthy.. Especially if Hampton and Parker come back.
Aaron (Minnesota)
Why doesnt minnesota start John David Booty? he sounds like he has can give us a few wins!
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:30 PM)
Childress is looking for a QB that is not going to turn the ball over and make mistakes more than a QB that "could" spark the team. Booty is not ready, yet. He needs someone that can 1) read coverages and 2) know what plays to check off to when the play called simply won't work against the defense he sees.. Two things that take the longest for new quarterbacks to learn.
Phillip (Harrisburg, Pa)
What do you think of the performance of Reggie Bush and Jericho Cotchery tonight in in the game?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:33 PM)
Bush will see most of his success as a receiver (more than as a RB) and the Jets (Cotchery) are not playing tonight.
Damien (ky)
if the eagles can go 10-6 do they still have a chance to make the playoffs
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:33 PM)
Don't think so.. I think they will need to win 11 games.
Dan (OH)
Which side of this trade do you like: Michael Turner and Santonio Holmes for Marshawn Lynch and Roddy White
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:34 PM)
Turner and Holmes
Bill (OH)
Larry Johnson is really frustrating to own. Do you see him figuring it out or is it time to throw in the towel?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:34 PM)
I'd throw in the towel.. He is always inconsistent (OK, except for ONE year).. Too emotional
Kevin, Boston
What happened to Gates Sunday?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:37 PM)
He is one of the few TEs that find more success on deeper routes than short ones and Miami did not give the Chargers' offense time to run deep routes. Too much pressure on the pocket.
Phil (Laguna Beach, CA.)
Do you think Jim Zorn takes the training wheels off J. Campbell the next three weeks? What is your take on the skins offense not turning the ball over yet this season. That Redskin offense is so balanced it's scary
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:39 PM)
Why take the training wheels off?? the offense seems to be doing pretty well right now.. Actually I can see him adding some plays, in small doses, but GRADUALLY...
Marc (VT)
Why are the lions so bad? Do u think they will win a game?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:40 PM)
Yes, they will win a game this year.. Bad? because they spent too much money on WRs over the years and didn't draft well.. 4-5 years of poor drafts can kill a team.. Don't just look at the first round but teams need 3,4,5 round picks to pan out..
bill myrtle beach,sc
How will the raiders deal with their management problems
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:41 PM)
When the management is also an owner it's difficult to say.. Davis really needs to hand the reins over..
Vic (Kailua, HI)
It seems like the Eagles are the only team in the NFC Beast that had to deal with injuries to key players on the offensive side of the ball. Would either of the other NFC East teams fare as well as the Eagles if they had similar injuries to their QB and RB?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:43 PM)
ANY team in ANY division would have issues if their QB and RB missed time due to injuries..
Marc (VT)
who should the lions draft next year? QB?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:45 PM)
Marc it really depends on who is available.. I'd probably rather go after a QB through free agency and draft elsewhere. They need help on the O line. Giving up 16 sacks makes it hard for any QB to be successful (except Big Ben)..
Max (Houston)
Where do you think JT O'Sullivan ends the year, top 15 QB? top 20? not in the top 20?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:46 PM)
Top 20.. With Martz he will have some numbers, but they still need help at WR.
Tony (MN)
If the Vikings were to lose tonight, which they probably are, and somehow lose to the garbage Lions next week, how could the Vikings not look to boot Childress?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:48 PM)
I don't like firing coaches in midseason.. I don't feel like it really serves any purpose.. the person that takes over is not apt to be the new HC the following season so all you would be doing is trying to spark the team for a game or two..
joe ny
who's worse in the booth... Kornheiser for football or van gundy for basketball?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:49 PM)
I'd vote for Van Gundy.. At least Kornheiser is not SUPPOSED to be an expert on the game.
travis
how should the vikings address the QB postion in the offseaon?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:50 PM)
I'd go after a veteran (free agency).. Drafting another QB wouldn't make a big difference next year..
Jesse Murray (Duluth, MN)
Did you see Mewelde Moore tearing it up last night? Boy did the Vikings miss out there./sarcasm. Seriously though, I miss that shifty little guy.
Fred (PA)
Assuming I get into the playoffs, who do you like better: Rodgers or Big Ben?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:52 PM)
Big Ben
manny trenton nj
addai or bush in week 6?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:53 PM)
Bush.. Addai won't have a lot of success against the Ravens..
canton, ohio
Any chance the Brownies bounce back from 1-3?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:55 PM)
Not looking good, at this point.. I could see 9 wins this season but not enough to make the playoffs..
skol
vikings lets go
Mike (GA)
Is Big Ben going to be ready to go in week 7 or is that shoulder worse than it appears?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:55 PM)
I think he will be ready.
K Warner (AZ)
Pretty good for an old guy, eh? How much do ya want to bet I can start all 16 games this year?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:56 PM)
Don't see it KW.. Yes, great game yesterday, but you will miss at least one game this year.
trevor lincoln, ne
do you think that LT will get back to his old self before the season's over
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:59 PM)
Yes, his foot is healing.. slowly, but it IS healing.
Pete (SouthPhilly)
With Westbrook having 2 fractured ribs does anyone know how long he is out for? What are the Eagles chances of winning without him?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (8:01 PM)
He is key for the Iggles.. They are definately NOT a playoff team without him. How long will he be out?? Depends on him. They can have him wear a "flack jacket" but it hurts to do ANYTHING when you have cracked ribs.. He is extremely tough so it wouldn't surprise me to see him back in a week..
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (8:02 PM)
Time is up.. Thanks for the questions.. Should be a great game tonight.
Buzzmaster (8:19 PM)
Hey all, I'm searching for Mike Tanier from Football Outsiders. Hang tight ...
Mike Tanier (8:24 PM)
Am I on?
Mike Tanier (8:25 PM)
Yikes, I was in the wrong room
Mike Tanier (8:26 PM)
OKAY LEMMEE GET TO WORK
Todd (Boston)
Mike - Is Gus Frerotte really any better than Tarvaris Jackson?
Mike Tanier (8:26 PM)
No! He is a better decision maker but he really limits the offense by taking away the rollout game. I don't think there is a good solution for the Vikings at this point.
craig
i'm a huge redskins fan...are you one of the many talking heads that write the skins' off as pretenders?
Mike Tanier (8:27 PM)
I wrote them off pretty quickly in the preseason and Week 1. They are making me look foolish now. I still don't know how far they can go, but they have been pretty convincing the last 2 weeks.
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
i've been telling them to get on tommy kramer all season, but ziggy wilf wont take my calls anymore.
Mike Tanier (8:28 PM)
Kramer would be a heck of a choice.
chris (St. Paul)
love the work you guys do on football outsiders. what has surprised you most about the first quarter of the season?
Mike Tanier (8:29 PM)
The Redskins have been a huge surprise. The Titans of course, too. And I think I had the Falcons in the same category as the Lions and Rams, when they clearly are not.
Andrew(RI)
you think Brees will have a field day with the Vike's dbacks?
Mike Tanier (8:30 PM)
I think we are about to see a lot of Sean Payton's patented micro-short passes. I think Brees will be under some pressure but there will be lots of dumpoffs to Reggie and the gang.
mario (kc)
I know its' a rebuilding year for us, but who needs to go...Herm or Carl, or both?
Mike Tanier (8:31 PM)
Both. I think if you look at the cupboards they are pretty darn bare in KC. The Peterson era has run its course.
Pete (NC)
How can you possibly not put the Panthers in the Top 5? Aren't they the dark horse in the NFC?
Mike Tanier (8:32 PM)
The Problem with the Panthers is that the whole NFC South is playing pretty well right now. I don't see them as standing out from that crowd in any way. Their win Sunday ... well, look who they beat.
Jesse, Duluth MN
Are the Swing passes effective against the Vikes? Maybe on Jared Allen's side with his tendancy to over-pursue?
Mike Tanier (8:33 PM)
I want to see how the Vikes defend them without EJ. He is the brains behind that front seven. In general, though, Payton is a master of misdirection, and they will try to get the pass rush going 1 way and the ball the other.
MIKE, NYC
Better game tonight Bobby Wade or Bobby Meachem??
Mike Tanier (8:34 PM)
I guess Meachem. From what I have seen this year, he has all the tools to be a go-to WR. Attitude and all.
BRAD - Helena , MT
How big was that Dolphins win yesterday? Pretty wide open in the AFC right now.
Mike Tanier (8:35 PM)
Those are the Chargers. They are going to give away a few of those games every year. The Dolphins shoud get a few more spoiler opportunities this year, but let's not kid ourselves into thinking they are anything but a 6-10 team/
Justin (Chicago)
Does it feel like the Bears are a few plays away from 5-0? Or are they just managing to win and then blew away a miserable Lions team?
Mike Tanier (8:36 PM)
The latter, but a look at the division shows that they can get to the playoffs playing like this. They are better than most people thought offensively, but they aren't that great.
SkinsEgo
Coach Z for early coach of the Year candidate?
Mike Tanier (8:37 PM)
Might have to go through Jeff Fisher to get it.
Daniel (Bayonne, NJ)
It's a distant memory that Drew Brees was once the San Diego starting qb, but I always felt that there was never enough light shed on Brees going to New Orleans. I genuinely feel like if Drew Brees never left, the Chargers would have won the Super Bowl already. What are your thoughts?
Mike Tanier (8:38 PM)
It's hard to say. He certainly is a different QB than Rivers. I look back at that game against the Patriots, their best shot a few years ago, and I don't see Brees making a difference. Last year, well Volek played a part of the playoff game and it was still close.
Peter (Boston, MA)
M. Forte Rookie of the Year??
Mike Tanier (8:38 PM)
Matt Ryan is the top candidate right now. Forte has a heck of a case.
canvasking (Frisco, CA)
hey question, I'm currently down one point in my league and i have brees going up against bush to finish the week, what do you think?? do i win
Mike Tanier (8:39 PM)
You should. I don't see Bush running for a touchdown, so you should make up the ground.
Josh - Olympia, WA
Of the playoff teams from last year that are racked with injuries who has the best chance of making the playoffs this year?
Mike Tanier (8:40 PM)
Colts. Peyton. Equalizer.
MIT Football
Hey Mike, need to trade for a WR, who do you like: Harrison, Reg Brown, or Holt? Keep in mind I own Peyton, and am not sure if it's an advantage/disadvantage to pair up with Marvin.
Mike Tanier (8:41 PM)
Ewww. Take Holt. Bulger is back, Holt-to-Bulger is still somewhat reliable. Brown isn't that good. Harrison is nearly toast,
al (miami)
OK...I have watched Romo all 5 games...and it seems to me that something isn't quite right with his throws. A lot of have been underthrown where the ball is going to the receivers feets or they have to slow down just to catch the ball. I understand his gunslinger mentality but it I think he is thinking too much out there (maybe thinking about mechanics as oppossed to just letting it fly? maybe thinking about Jessica too much?) What says you?
Mike Tanier (8:43 PM)
His mechanice have never been perfect. He makes a lot of throws on the move and those passes will never be pinpoint. I think, though, when you watch a QB really carefully, you see all of the slightly off throws that even the good ones throw. A lot of what casual fans do is this: they compare the QB they watch carefully for 40 throws per week with the guy they only see in the highlight reels. Guess what? The highlight reels always look better.
Samoa (Holbrook, Az)
Seriously, youre from the ESPN family, why is Michael Irving not doing THE SHOW, instead that got Keyshawn. Theres no way Keshawn is as entertaining or better than Michael Irving.
Mike Tanier (8:43 PM)
<----Redheaded Stepchild of Family. Couldn't even find right chatroom.
Matt Leinart
when will i be nfl calaber or even play
Mike Tanier (8:44 PM)
When you learn to spell. What are they teaching you at USC?
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Dhani Jones is leading the NFL in tackles. Could he possibly make the pro bowl if that trend continues??
Mike Tanier (8:44 PM)
I heard a trumpet sound. And a seal torn open on a scroll. I don't think Dhani in the Pro Bowl would be a good sign.
matt
i say romo is the most overrated qb in the league
Mike Tanier (8:46 PM)
I have heard that a few times. If you believe the "Let's have a 2-hour long special about him" school of hype, then he is overrated. If you think he is the 3rd-7th best QB in the NFL, you are spot on.
Patrick (MN)
Julius Jones. Worth keeping or should I export him. If I dish him out, who can I target?
Mike Tanier (8:47 PM)
I would say move him or slide him to your bench if you have the depth. Someone who is napping could give good RB2 starter value for him
Mike Tanier (8:47 PM)
TD Saints! Simple slat from the slot against Cover 2.
Matt Lienart
i wanna play
Mike Tanier (8:48 PM)
Get into Warner's head: Dude., you could get someone hurt out there with your overthrows. Text your wife and talk about it.
D (U of I)
Is Drew Brees the best QB in league with Brady hurt and Manning not yet back to 100%?
Mike Tanier (8:49 PM)
I would take a dinged-up Peyton still. Brees is a great player and a hell of a system fit. He reminds me a little of Trent Green in Green's best years. but Brees is a little better.
Joey (WA)
How many yards and touchdowns do you predict Larry Johnson will have when this season is said and done?
Mike Tanier (8:51 PM)
He will roll in around 800-900 yards, at about 3.2 per carry. He may get 8-TDs because he will get force fed the ball. But he won't be good, and most of his yards will come in the odd "good game" like 2 weeks ago
Chris Chambers (Cali)
Hey you see that catch yesterday at the one, then my leg got steam rolled... almost another TD against the Fins. Do you see me playing next week and joining the new Band of Brothers with the hurt legs and toes (Gates, LT)...?
Mike Tanier (8:51 PM)
Saw the catch. Don't know the status. Chambers is one of those super-talent receivers who needed a bunch of years and a few scene changes to really meet his potential. Joey Galloway comes to mind as another example/
Commish ((MillerTown))
Mike Tanier... you're not drinking unsanctioned light beer are you?
Mike Tanier (8:52 PM)
I don't drink Milwaukee products. Afraid I will look like Prince Fielder. Wanna be slim and trim like Ryan Howard.
Corey (Kiowa, Colorado)
How can you leave Jay Cutler out of the "best" quarterback conversation? He is clearly the best QB right now...
Mike Tanier (8:53 PM)
We were having a best QB conversation? The guy I saw the last 2 weeks is pretty good, but he is not ready to be in the best QB conversation.
Mike (Naper)
Which of these QBs would rather have Romo over: Peyton, Brady, Brees, Eli, Ben, McNabb, orton, Cutler, Rivers, and Favre. I say he's not #3-7, more like 10. He barely makes top 1/3 of the league, some people think he's the same as Peyton.
Mike Tanier (8:54 PM)
I am sorry. Orton? Orton? Did I read that right?
Ryan (richmond,va)
Whats up with Ryan Grant this year?? Think he'll rack up the stats as the season progresses???
Mike Tanier (8:55 PM)
A big mystery. He wasn't cutting back with authority against the Bucs, but tthe Bucs do a great job of taking away cutback runs. I didn't see this week's film yet!
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Notice how orton wasn't capitalised... still no respect for the Bears QB.
Keith
Who do u feel is a good back up QB if my Fantasy Football QB is on a bye week??
Mike Tanier (8:56 PM)
Depends on how many guys got gobbled up in your league. Is O'Sullivan around? He can get you through a week. In some leagues, Orton and Ryan are on waivers.
Ric, NJ
Trade Question...I just got offered Santana Moss and Chris Perry for Calvin Johnson and Deangelo Williams...Do you think I am winning if I accept the trade. I do have good RB depth (Tomlinson, J. Lewis, Chris Johnson and Felix Jones already) I also need some space to pick up backups at Defense and Kicker for their bye weeks coming up
Mike Tanier (8:57 PM)
I don't like the deal because I don't like Perry and I don't think Moss is enough of an upgrade over Calvin Johnson, who has proven he will get some catches with a lousy team.
Al Davis (Shady Acres)
I'm sick of the lies. the lies!!! they're all against me. But you're still my buddy Tanier, you believe me. Right???
Mike Tanier (8:58 PM)
I am a professional liar.
Mike Tanier (8:58 PM)
Gonna hang a little late because I started late.
Tim (Sacramento, CA
is calvin johnson still an elite WR even with the lions?
Mike Tanier (8:59 PM)
He is an elite talent with good overall work habits. I think of him as a WR2 in a deep league or a WR3 because a lot of turmoil is about to happen in Detroit.
Ashton Memphis,TN
Why did the Vikings punt there? Is this a terrible coaching job? I was under the impression you should never punt past the 50.
Mike Tanier (9:00 PM)
Well, the punt was followed by the easiest play action bomb I have seen in a while. These Vikings safeties are not strong
Joe Flacco
You gave me a "B" in calculus. How do you feel about that now that I'm an NFL Quarterback?
Mike Tanier (9:01 PM)
You got an A. Your memory is faulty.Lienart got the B
Peter Griffin (Quohog)
Mike.. I was just wondering.. have you heard? Have you heard about the bird? I hear the bird is the word.
Mike Tanier (9:01 PM)
No, but I have heard about the Lonesome Loser. He's a loser. But he just keeps on trying.
Sean (Las Vegas NV)
Fire Childress? With someone like Bill Cowher out there who loves running backs and defenses, why keep Chilly around to drive the Vikings into the ground?
Mike Tanier (9:02 PM)
I can understand the anti-Childress sentiment. The benching of Jackson for Frerote looked like a panic move. And some of these 45-pass, 20-carry gameplans are downright nutty.
Mike (Naper)
Orton was the joke. However, I'd take the other 9 QBs over Romo right now.
Mike Tanier (9:03 PM)
I prefer Romo to Eli. Cutler ... I mean, what has he shown to be placed above Romo. I like Romo over Rivers too. And Romo is more likely to stay healthy than D-mac.
Vikings Pass Rush
Have you seen me?
Mike Tanier (9:04 PM)
You were everywhere 2 weeks ago. Dunno where you are now.
Josh - Olympia, WA
Watch Cowher get picked up in the offseason where he can make the appropriate draft choices for the miserable season the Vikings will end with.
Mike Tanier (9:05 PM)
I would like to see Cowher in a cabinet position. I don't care who wins the election here, I think he could be Secretary of the Interior or something
Blah
Why the hell would the Saints burn a TO right there is 5 yards on 3 and 10 really worth more than a time out?
Mike Tanier (9:06 PM)
Maybe to make sure their field goal unit is ready and won't make a mistake that leads to a TD
Mike (Lexington, KY)
The Vikings needed that big time!!!
Josh - Olympia, WA
WOW!! That has to hurt the Saints.
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
Um...Eli and Rivers have won playoff games... yeah....
Mike Tanier (9:06 PM)
Ummm.... teams win football games, not quarterbacks ... yeah.
Nate (San Diego)
With LT's injury worse after Sundays game, do you see Sproles as a good pickup for the next game? As opposed to say...Hightower?
Mike Tanier (9:07 PM)
Not a big fan of Hightower against the Cowboys, but I like hin overall. A good, no-frills, shoulders-square runner. If it is a yardage league, Sproles is a pretty good choice.
Matin Gramatica
Do slow boats to china depart from New Orleans , or do we just need to find a nice rail?
Lee - Honolulu, HI
Stuck at work and can't watch the game, is Lance Moore in the lineup?
Mike Tanier (9:08 PM)
Oh yeah, he is in the lineup all right!
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
Wait, isn't Dallas supposed to be the most talented team in the NFL?
Mike Tanier (9:09 PM)
I dunno. Last year, I thought it was the Chargers. Or the Patriots.
lloyd( denver)
Cutler or Elway?
Mike Tanier (9:09 PM)
Gasp.
Keith
I picked up Dave Garrard but you think O'Sullivan will be a better back up for week 6??
Mike Tanier (9:10 PM)
Garrard! The Broncos give up a lot of short passes that turn into big gains.
Keith
Elway all the way
koepke11
elway thts easy
Joey (WA)
Who is going to win the NFC West? And do you think its possible for the winner of the NFC West to win against a Wild Card team?
Mike Tanier (9:11 PM)
I somehow see the Seahawks righting the ship and going 9-7. Whoever the NFC East Wild Card team is will slay them.
BRAD - Helena , MT
Are you allowed to talk about the announcing, or has ESPN threatened you? Just wondering what you think of Kornheiser...i find him irritating.
Mike Tanier (9:13 PM)
I usually watch with the sound down. Right now, for example, it would be distracting to hear the anouncers while typing.
lloyd( denver)
better reciever... owens, marshall, or moss(randy)?
Mike Tanier (9:14 PM)
Moss when he feels like it. Marshall in 1 year. TO is most likely to single handedly destroy a bad opponent.
Jessica (Tampa)
Who are your Super Bowl Picks right now? and How long did you see the Titans going undefected?
Mike Tanier (9:16 PM)
It is hard to argue with the way the Cowboys and Giants are playing. I will take the Giants right now against the Colts, who are frankly a stand-in team until I figure the Broncos out.I think the Titans are coming to earth soon because they have no passing offense.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
nice dodge on the Kornheiser question.. :))
Mike Tanier (9:16 PM)
Dodge? Dodge?
Alex (TN)
What do you think of wade phillips in Dallas personally i think that Parcells built this team and was stabbed in the back what do you think
Mike Tanier (9:17 PM)
I am generally not impressed by Wade as a strategist. In terms of his easy-going demeanor, that often works for a while and then all heck breaks loose. That could very well happen n Dallas.
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
hmmm. I kinda like that onside kick call, but great play by the guy who's name I don't know...
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
What's the early onsidekicks?
Mike Tanier (9:18 PM)
Coahes often call that if they see the front line of blockers bailing out early on the kickoff, trying to get back into blocking position before looking to see the kick go off.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Parcells left, he wasn't fired.
Mike Tanier (9:19 PM)
Yes. And no one stabs him in the back
Lucas (Dallas)
do you think the raiders and the Jets will make the playoffs?
Mike Tanier (9:20 PM)
Um... Raiders?
Glenn (San Jose, CA)
What does everyone think of the "wildcat" formation being run in Miami?
Mike Tanier (9:21 PM)
Interesting wrinkle. I think opponents will start shuttin it down soon. The thing it, it is basically just a running formation, so if they are getting 4-5 yards from it there is no reason to scrap it. It isn't some triple reverse trick play with the threat of a turnover or a 10-yard loss every time.
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
this is a jerry jones team. you can tell because they have a roster full of loudmouthed morons. get them jermey shockey and they could form some kind of obnoxious voltron.
Glenn (San Jose, CA)
I personally don't like Wade's style, I'm more of a Jimmy Johnson type Discipline and Bill Walsh type positive attitude and praise approach
Mike Tanier (9:22 PM)
I like the Dick Vermeil Super Organization + Praise method. The worst, I think, is the kind of guy who rants and raves but doesn't actually have a good organization plan in place. Millen. Ditka at career's end.
Steve Charlotte, NC
Why in the world is every sports website, including si.com saying that the Redskins are the HOTTEST team in the NFL when the Giants have now won 8 straight games, including beating the Redskins, including making history in beating the unbeaten Pats to win the Super Bowl, and, of course, including going undefeated, as opposed to going 4-1(which, mind you, the only loss came against the GIANTS), to start the season. It just doesn't make ANY sense.
Mike Tanier (9:23 PM)
Just to tick you off personally.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
I like it because it works just enough for the Dolphins.
Michael (SMU)
Is the Saints defense getting better, or is Minnesota this one dimensional in they're offense right now?
Mike Tanier (9:24 PM)
Uno Dimensiono. The Saints defense has sured up a bit the last week or 2.2 more and I bolt!
Paul (Denver)
Any word on Chris Williams' rehab?
Mike Tanier (9:25 PM)
i haven't heard anything recently.
BRAD - Helena , MT
Dolphins coach said this was just the beginning of the Wildcat - more passes and tricks to come of it. But I agree that it will be figured out somewhat within a few weeks, then be scrapped for a few, then brought back out. Its not going to change the game or anything
koepke11
should the browns give up on anderson and put quinn in, when was the last time he had a decent game? and do you think romeo's days are numbered in cleveland if they don't turn it around?
Mike Tanier (9:27 PM)
I think Romeo's days are numbered. I would like to see them give Quinn an opportunity, then come back next year with their offensive core of starters, a new coordinator, maybe a better running back. I think there is a good nucleus there but I no longer have a lot of faith in that staff
Mike Tanier (9:28 PM)
OK, sorry about the late start. Thanks for sticking with me. Check out Football Outsiders for more coverage, all week long, all season long!
Buzzmaster (9:31 PM)
All right, thanks to Mike for the bonus chatter tonight. Great info out of him and all our MNF chatters.
Buzzmaster (9:31 PM)
But now you're stuck with me!
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Vikings are finding ways to make things happen....great 3rd down call
Patrick (Louisville)
FB Pass! How sweet it is.
Josh - Olympia, WA
Nothing like 30 yds offense and a 7 point lead.
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
buuuuzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!
Pete (NC)
buzz, its weird to say this, but i missed you
Buzzmaster (9:32 PM)
You're right, Pete. That's weird.
Jeffy T Kasson, MN
maybe we should put Taylor under center for the rest of the game!
Buzzmaster (9:32 PM)
I'm still waiting for the wishbone to come back in style.
Buzzmaster (9:33 PM)
That, and disco.
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
so, I sneezed today and it tore the muscle that attaches to the rib cage. With this pain, I can't see how Westbrook could play with a couple of broken ribs...
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Winfield...blocked fg recovery for a TD, sack and fumble recovery, some big hits....whats next
Patrick (Baltimore)
Buzz, this is way more offense then last weeks game. No punt tally this evening.
Buzzmaster (9:33 PM)
Somehow, the PAT tally isn't quite as fun.
Glenn (San Jose, CA)
Oh boy, I can see it already onside kicks, FB pass, ....now reverses, double reverses, fake fg and punts, lateral screens its all coming!
miami fl
i called it minnesota was going to bring it 2nite...
Buzzmaster (9:34 PM)
Here that? Miami called it. Nice job by the city.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
the vikes have silenced that crowd for now
Jeffy T Kasson, MN
Anyone think the Vikes should just start kicking it outa bounds??????
Jerome (MN)
Taylor throws better than Tarvaris.
Buzzmaster (9:35 PM)
There are several Jacksons that throw better than Tarvaris. Tito, for one.
A Frustrated Bernard Berrian Owner
Damn you, Chester Taylor!
Patrick (Baltimore)
Nope not as fun, and I am still awaiting the punt screen.
Glenn (San Jose, CA)
Soon a Hook and Ladder or Flea Flicker should be called
Brendan (Philly)
Dude! Answer my question.
Buzzmaster (9:36 PM)
I don't know where your car is.
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
um...STOP FUMBLING! I need 26 points from you Brees! If I wanted negative points, I'd start Kurt Warner!
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
Ahhh Tito...everyone forgets about Tito...
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
How bout that Flacco performance yesterday?
Buzzmaster (9:37 PM)
Come on, this game isn't nearly boring enough to be talking about Joe Flacco in the second quarter.
Josh - Olympia, WA
Maybe the Vikings will get really creative and use a play action pass.
Mike (Burke)
Is AP running the ball at all? I just checked his stats so far. Was hoping for a 20 point comeback.
Buzzmaster (9:38 PM)
Not much time of possession for the Vikes so far to get him going.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
fumblia...maybe a facemask
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
Most forget Tito. Everyone forget Jermaine.
Patrick (Baltimore)
Brendan, we are still WACKO FOR FLACCO in Baltimore. Just not WACKO for the referees and questionable calls.
Glenn (San Jose, CA)
Hows come QB can Spike the ball in fustration but not WR's and RB's?
Jeffy T Kasson, MN
dont blow it ed!
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Did Ed Hochuli blow another call?
Pete (NC)
The Saints are what we call enablers. They enable bad teams to look good.
Josh - Olympia, WA
MN D has shown up and has started to dominate.
Patrick (Baltimore)
I need 25 points from Berrian. I am going to start to hold my breath now.
Steve (NJ)
Here comes Hochuli again screwing up. Clearly a facemask which caused the fumble
Jeffy T Kasson, MN
Ed Is the GREATEST
Mike (Lexington, KY)
ahhhh...the boo birds are out...
Rupert (Danbury, CT)
My damn cable is down...stupid drunk hit a telephone pole after happy hour. Luckily nobody was physically hurt but emotionally as a Vikes fan I'm a wreck.
Paul (Lorain, OH)
Finally, I left and got some food and came back and Buzz is here. I was getting tired of the super serious chats!
Mike (Lexington, KY)
not sure that would have been Ed's call...
Pete (NC)
I believe the hand knocking the ball out caused the fumble.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
2 wrecks in one night, that's bad.
Meh
Fire that idiot Hochuli. How many more ridiculously poor calls do we need to suffer through just so he can sit there in his 2-sizes-too-small shirt and pose on first downs?
Brian (Houston, TX)
How can the refs miss that facemask penalty?? That was as blatant as it gets.
Pete (NC)
Rupert, they're called bars. Look for them on any corner.
Buzzmaster (9:42 PM)
Shhhh, quit driving away the customers. That's my job.
Steve (NJ)
When you are trying to save your neck, it is easy to get a ball punched out
Jerome (MN)
Nice face mask :) I'm just glad, for once, a call wasn't made against the Vikes. Always seems like we're playing against two teams: The one in pads and the other in stripes.
Paul (Lorain, OH)
Geez, it sounds like were going to see paper bags on fans heads soon.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
If he went to a bar he wouldn't be able to enjoy the glory that is MNF Chat Marathon.
Buzzmaster (9:43 PM)
That's more like it. They don't count punts in bars.
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
I don't like sports either, I'm just here for the booze...
IL
These refs are horrible! Minny should have been buried already if it weren't for that horrible holding call!
Rupert (Danbury, CT)
Yes and do you suggest I bring my two year old to the bar or leave him alone? Or I can always drop him off in the ER that my wife works in.
Buzzmaster (9:44 PM)
I definitely wouldn't advise leaving him alone in the bar.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
boooooooooooooooo...lol
Patrick (Baltimore)
Touche Buzzmaster. Punt Tally for this evening?
Paul (lorain, OH)
Unless said bar has wi fi.. then you could be "That guy" at the bar with his laptop.
Perry (Denver, CO)
Minnesota, welcome to the Ed Hochuli fan club!
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
No, Paul, no. No one should ever be THAT guy.
Jeff (Salem, OR)
This ref is going to be relegated to chief/Lion games
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Ed actually made a good call.
Josh - Olympia, WA
Punt Tally is 1
zach (san clemente, ca)
This officiating crew is terrible tonight
Buzzmaster (9:46 PM)
It's almost like they had the Hochuli highlights ready to roll ...
Jerome (MN)
Hey Buzz, the Gamecast for game isn't working properly. It only shows MN with 1 rushing yard, lol.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Screen to defensive tackle, incomplete pass.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
something about games in domes...seems artificial
Steve (NJ)
You mean Ed actually made the right call? Not sure if he gets credit for it being good.
Patrick (Baltimore)
This chat does two things, 1. makes the games that much better and, 2. keeps me from doing any electrical engineering homework....and thanks Josh for the update. I was worried I missed out on some of the earlier action.
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
Let's keep throwing the ball with Gus Ferotte! It's not like he is terrible. I mean, at least he doesn't headbutt walls when he scores a TD...
Rupert (Danbury, CT)
Buzzmaster, is there anything you don't know? I'm putting shoes on him as we speak. I figure if I leave him at one and go to another I won't have to hear him whining. I'm sure they have a Golden Tee or something.
Zach Rastall (Marinette, WI)
Chester Taylor is my new fantasy QB.
Tom (Chicago)
I just got back from class. Did something happen to Adrian Peterson? How come he has so few carries?
Buzzmaster (9:48 PM)
Vikings haven't had the ball long, in part because of great hands like those displayed by Bobby Wade.
Matross(baltimore)
The HGH is messing with the REFS vision...It was a facemask...
Patrick (Louisville)
If you expect him to play golden tee for a while you better give him a 50
Buzzmaster (9:49 PM)
Or just give him a 40 and forget the Golden Tee.
Patrick (Greenville, SC)
I'm sure the Vikes wouldn't actually DO something with the bad call that went their way, would they?
Mike (Lexington, KY)
they are keying all over AP....play action is warranted
Josh - Olympia, WA
Oh my could it be a punt?
Buzzmaster (9:49 PM)
And inside the 20 at that!
Patrick (Baltimore)
If Joe Flacco was at receiver this evening, he would have caught that ball. I am just saying is all...
Jerome (MN)
Zach, ha-ha! Did you have TJ before? lol.
Pete (NC)
Yet another reason to have satellite. Unless the drunks find a way to crash into the satellites in space.
Chris (jefferson,oh)
wade must have been watching braylon edwards highlights
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
A little NFL history for you. When ol' Gus headbutted the wall in the Redskins/Giants game, little known Trent Green enters the game. He was being taught by a little known QB coach for the skins named Mike Martz. That offseason, The skins decided to let Green go into free agency. Martz went to St. Louis and talked Green into going with him. Since they were so certain that Green was their QB, they only got some has-been QB that used to stock grocery stores...Mr. Kurt Warner. Down goes Green and the rest is history. Funny how that headbutt did so much to the NFL...
Eric (Sioux Falls, SD)
Antoine Winfield for president!!
Josh - Olympia, WA
It takes good hands to be a NFL WR it takes just a pair of hands to be a Vikings WR.
Andrew (Bethel, CT)
Rupert as a fellow football fan I feel your pain and am extending an invite to come watch the game here...next town over. Bring the kid we have plenty of toys.
Buzzmaster (9:52 PM)
Wow, that's kind of generous. Or kind of creepy. I'm not sure which.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Robert's class is in session...please take your seats...lol
Schaefer (MN)
Vikings will be 12-4 at the end of the season I promise you this!
Patrick (Greenville, SC)
See, it'll take more than even Ed Hoculi to keep the Vikes offense on the field.
Dimkiev (Baltimore)
Saints should be up 14 at least
Jeffy T Kasson, MN
Its almost like the Saints knew that they should focus on AP...weird....I mean with our High Powered pass offense i figured we would be able to run all over them tonight.....
Steve (Syracuse)
It seems to me that last year everyone was touting Ed as an elite ref...now this year he is in the garbage...is there a more popular ref than Ed Hocculi?
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
when andrew says 'toys' he means 'human-sized birdcage'
Mike (SMU)
I think Hochulli should donate some pec muscles to the Martin Gramatica Chin Implant Foundation. That por guy cannot fill out a chin strap for nothing.
Josh - Olympia, WA
Why can't the Vikings offense see how well the play action works for the Saints.
Buzzmaster (9:54 PM)
I show up and the scoring stops. Is it something I said?
Mike (SMU)
There's the Devery H. we know and love
Tom (Chicago)
Buzz, you basically begged for punts. Now you've got them. Thanks.
Buzzmaster (9:55 PM)
Fumble!
Buzzmaster (9:56 PM)
But the Saints fall on it.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
The Saints and Vikes sideline is watching us chat instead of looking at what play to run next... so yes, it is something you said.
Chris (jefferson,oh)
maybe you should start a fumble count
John (Cloquet, MN)
Did somebody secretly put grease on all of the footballs or what?
Josh - Olympia, WA
Bush fumbles again.
Patrick (Greenville, SC)
How is it that I could go to any McDonald's playground and find enough talent to field a team that would put up 400 passing yards on the Vikes?
Steve (Syracuse)
Last week we saw no offense...this week...the ball is moving, just a buncha turnovers to go with it...
Brendan (Louisville, Kentucky)
Joe Flacco wouldn't fumble like that.... oh wait...
Pete (NC)
the saints will have 0 punts tonight, just scores and fumbles
Buzzmaster (9:58 PM)
Yeah, that was pretty much a hold.
Eddie Izzard (England)
FLAG. Pvvvt
Paul (Lorain, OH)
I was going to complain about all the flags but.. wow that was a huge hold..
Buzzmaster (9:59 PM)
Brees moving the Saints into punt territory.
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
7 step drops against fast DE's...um...not such a good thing...
Josh MN
well Jared Allen may not be getting sacks but he is helping the coverage with pressure
Donski (Fargo, ND)
Looks like the Vikes pass rush decided to show up for the first time in four years...
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Brees is starting to get harrassed more and more
Pete (NC)
They will go for it.
Buzzmaster (10:00 PM)
Looks like 4th and 1, 49-yard FG or go for it?
Josh - Olympia, WA
Almost, picked up a 3rd and 22. Jeez, that is insane.
John (Cloquet, MN)
HEY!!!! Slow down there Patrick, I bet you and your neighborhood kids team could only put up about 350 yards passing on the Vikes.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
how about another penalty
John (Cloquet, MN)
I don't think that playcard Sean Payton has couldn't get any bigger.
Buzzmaster (10:01 PM)
First down completion to Bush.
Josh - Olympia, WA
Way to go #17 and save the TD.
Brendan (Louisville, Kentucky)
Penalties??? Pshh, I want punts!
Anthony (New Haven, CT)
Does it really matter what happens in the NFC outside of the East?
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
That migh have been the dumbest Defensive play of the year. How do you not go after Bush on that? Wow...
Josh (Glendale AZ)
Anyone else get that ooh is Reggie gonna fumble feeling when he touches the ball now?
Brendan (Louisville, Kentucky)
Anthony, most valid comment of the night.
Jerome (MN)
Stat-wise, Bree is having an awesome fantasy game. Minus the fumbles ofcourse.
Buzzmaster (10:03 PM)
Bree Sharp? Good singer.
Pete (NC)
Anthony, keep thinking that. The Panthers have something up their sleeve for you.
Buzzmaster (10:03 PM)
Shoulder pads?
Dave (Phoenix, AZ)
What is the record for receptions by a RB in a game?
Mike(Utica,NY)
Reggie Bush is nothing more than the next Larry Centers.
Buzzmaster (10:04 PM)
Deuce gets a rare carry.
lou merritt (slidell,la)
Bout to splode if they don't use Deuce at least as a threat, such a waste of a resource. The Saints will not do a thing this year until they realize that Bush may just be Bush League. He is certainly nothing defenses fear when lined up as running back. Payton tries to be too fancy. To much talent for that
Chris D (Jax Beach, FL)
Why does Coach P hate Duece. Let go of the man crush he has on Reggie and give the running back the ball.
Buzzmaster (10:04 PM)
What an interception!
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
INT
Josh - Olympia, WA
What an INT.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
hahahahahaha the Saints are funny
Brendan (Louisville, Kentucky)
Tip drill.
Joe (Philly)
WOW doesn't even beging to describe that pick
Jeffy T Kasson, MN
yes!!!!!! VIKINGS DEFENSE....MVP OF THE YEAR....PROB THE SEASON
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
Three turnovers, yet they are still in the game...man the Vikes just arent as good as advertised...
Zach Rastall (Marinette, WI)
I'm having a bad fantasy year.
Josh (Glendale, AZ)
Well Deuce may be good, but the only way to challenge the Vikes D is on the outside and Deuce doesn't have that extra gear to get there, they will be no better off with Deuce.
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
So much for AP tearing apart this defense...they are doing a good job on D...
Josh - Olympia, WA
Wow, can the vikings win a game and have under a 100 yds offense.
John (Cloquet, MN)
Sean Payton looks like he wants to hurt somebody.
Richard (Burlington, VT)
I don't think you can compare the attention that Reggie commands to that of Larry Centers. Even when he's not getting the ball you can't take your eye off of him. Centers wasn't quite the HR threat.
Buzzmaster (10:07 PM)
Just nothing doing for Peterson so far. At least he'll be rested for the second half.
Patrick (Louisville)
Jeffy cracks me up. of the year... and maybe the season? No way.
Brendan (Louisville, Kentucky)
He wants to hurt Ed.
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
Wow---peterson 8 carries, 8 yards...dont think he has ever been this stifled...
Chris D (Jax Beach, FL)
Saints are pretty but have no teeth. Pay attention on how to gain 500 yards of offence and lose by the Siants. Give to Duece for crying out loud.
Buzzmaster (10:08 PM)
You find people with no teeth attractive?
Ryan, MN
Steve...shut up....say someting not about the run defense.
Brendan (Louisville, Kentucky)
Yes, Steve, he has. San Fran last year,
Glenn (San Jose, CA)
here's a video example of how NOT to play the game. No offense on one side and extreme turnovers on the other
lou merritt (slidell,la)
Completely disagree. Deuce doesn't have to break one to be a threat. You get 2 to 4 on first or second down, that?s all I'm asking. Opens up so much more.
Paul (Lorain, OH)
They gave it to Deuce and he was stuffed,,
Buzzmaster (10:10 PM)
And Peterson breaks loose for two yards.
Jerome (MN)
I seriously think Childless told AD to go into the middle everytime to wear out their def. line. 2nd half he'll be running left ALL DAY!
Brendan (Louisville, Kentucky)
Chris would love Kentucky then.
Tom (Chicago)
Time for the wildcat offense. Chester Taylor at QB and Peterson at RB.
David (Washington, DC)
Last year, Peterson had 250 of his record 296 rushing yards against the Chargers in the 2nd half. The Saints look tough, but you never know...
Donski (Fargo, ND)
Does it mean that we have QB troubles in MN if I cringe and hope to god he's not hurt every time Gus-freaking-Frerotte gets hit?
Pete (NC)
Quick ALDS update. Red Sox up 1-0.
Buzzmaster (10:11 PM)
Howie Kendrick fielding the ball like he's Reggie Bush.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Peterson just got Kimbo Sliced
Buzzmaster (10:12 PM)
I've got to think his knee was down. You guys?
Mike (Lexington, KY)
that was a clear fumble
Pete (NC)
yes yes yes, start the fumble count.
Brendan (Louisville, Kentucky)
Boo! Fumbling is the new punt!
Paul (Lorain, OH)
Woah.. cloase call...
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
That was a fumble
Tom (Chicago)
For a second, I though Adrian Peterson was broken.
Steve (NJ)
Did Hochuli just blow another one?
Joe (Philly)
His knee was down this will be over turned
Paul (Lorain, OH)
WOW.. that was a fumble...
Casey (OHIO)
This referring crew has got to go....terrible
Buzzmaster (10:13 PM)
Red Sox up 2-0
Josh - Olympia, WA
Oh no. Saints are going to get the ball. That was a fumble by AP. Negative points for AP today??
Jeffy T Kasson, MN
YES.....ED Hochuli for MVP if we retain the ball...
Brendan (Louisville, Kentucky)
Flacco wouldn't have fumbled that.... Oh wait......
Mike (SMU)
THATS A FUMBLE!!!!!!! MAKE IT UP ED!!!!
Mike (Lexington, KY)
the ball was not out of his hand until the knee was down....it was moving that way but not out beforehand
Josh MN
Not enough to overturn down by contact, his hand is still holding the ball when his knee comes down
Pete (NC)
are you kidding me? at game speed that is not a fumble. after review, it is a fumble.
Barry (Ridgeland, MS)
Not under control...
Jeffy T Kasson, MN
I'm willing to give up the ball...But only because Peterson got up after that hit..
Buzzmaster (10:15 PM)
And the ruling is ... way too complicated. Come on, Ed. Yes or no is all we need.
Paul (Lorain, OH)
It looks like he was still holding it, but it was on its way out.. but didn't fall out until he hit the ground..
Mike (Lexington, KY)
exactly what I said....
Josh - Olympia, WA
Ed for MVP!!!!
David (Washington, DC)
That's a fumble, but the idea that the officiating crew made a terrible call is crazy. That's a bang-bang play where Peterson's knee was an inch above the ground long before the ball came out. Tough call.
Tom (Chicago)
Wow. Ed will be getting a ton of emails for that call...
Paul (Lorain, OH)
Looks like the thigh pad knocked it out after his knee hit..
Patrick (Louisville)
Could have gone either way.
Steve (NJ)
Whether it was a fumble or not, Hochuli is gonna get blasted tomorrow.
David (Washington, DC)
Actually, upon further review, that may be a good ruling. What an impossible call to make.
Buzzmaster (10:16 PM)
Meanwhile, Vikings aren't moving quickly enough here.
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME!!! NOT to kick Field Goals...
Paul (Denver)
The Saints are getting the hose job of the year award.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
If the Vikes score they crowd will go crazy at the half
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
Ok the SKINS got blasted week 1 for having no 2 min offense...yet here are the Vikes taking as much time as possible to kick a FG..
Buzzmaster (10:17 PM)
And the run up the middle on first down. Interesting.
john
you dont want to do anything stupid here either
Paul (Lorain, OH)
I love the play action... any defender who falls for that with 24 seconds left in the half should be cut..
David (Washington, DC)
Welcome to the Vikings, Buzz. They haven't had any urgency or clock management skills since Jerry Burns. Green, Tice and Childress all have enjoyed taking it easy when time is short.
Will (GB)
Verily, fumbling and throwing picks do not a hose job make.
Ryan, MN
Brad Childress needs to be relieved of his duties. This is terrible to watch as a Vikings fan and we are winning.
Buzzmaster (10:19 PM)
If we get Hochuli and Childress to switch jobs at halftime, will everyone please stop complaining?
Josh - Olympia, WA
At least Green had and offense that could score in 20secs.
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
The Vikings perplex me. Using that TO made it impossible to run anything but to the end zone this play---
Chris (OH)
wonder if Daunte is interested in making a comeback
John (Cloquet, MN)
The Vikes don't score that much, so they don't really know what to do here.
Donski (Fargo, ND)
The Vikes will be happy with a FG...They just feel lucky to not be down 20-7.
Pete (NC)
i think childress has scratched his head one too many times...
Josh - Olympia, WA
Can Brad call plays that stretch the field.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
i would hate see what the Vikes fans would be complaing about if they were losing
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Bernard Berrian shows why he's worth all that money.
Jeffy T Kasson, MN
LANE KIFFIN IS AVAILABLE
Ray (Center Point Iowa)
Can We say it is in the best interest of the vikings to fire brad childress now
Brian (St. Paul)
We don't need Childress to coach, we have Hochuli on our side.
Steve (NJ)
Childress came from the Eagles and the are the WORST at time management! This is like watching Andy Reid.
lou merritt(slidell,la)
Holy snap! A Saints corner back made a play. Defensive MVP
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
Berrian between last week and this week has dropped more passes than I have ever seen a pro WR drop....even more than Fred Ex...
john
20-10 half i wouldnt be complaining too much
Marshall (San Diego Ca)
Ed Hoculi is da man...lets see how many cities he can never show his face in
Buzzmaster (10:21 PM)
And that's the half, 20-10, Vikings. See you at the start of the third quarter!
Buzzmaster (10:35 PM)
And we're off and running
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Alright, Buzz, lets get this going.
Buzzmaster (10:36 PM)
Easy there
Mike (Lexington, KY)
A TD to start the 2nd half would be huge for the Vikes...the Saints will put up some points this half
Jeff (Baton Rouge)
Typical of the Saints...make everyone look great and still rack up 300+ yards of offense.
Brandon (Minnesota)
Wow the vikes are winning with a.p scoring only 17 yards? Mmmm somethings fishy.
Grant (Grand Forks, ND)
I wonder if it is possible to throw for 600 yards and still lose the game. Drew Brees might find out tonight...
Joe (Philly)
Don't blame the Ref's for the Saints lossing this one they have 8 penalties for 50 yards 3 turn overs that's just sloppy play doesn't matter if they doubled the Vikings total yardage or not. You play bad you lose
J.R. (Hanover, PA)
Lets see Mike Periera and Ed Hochuli talk their way out of this game. I still can't believe what I am seeing and as a Saints fan, trust me I have seen some weird stuff.
Josh - Olympia, WA
Holy Cow PA by Vikings.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
I had a Sage like vision in my head for a moment.
Jay (NY)
I heard there's some complaining in this chat so I had to stop by.
Buzzmaster (10:39 PM)
An early punt, get excited.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Jay nothing new here...complaining is the norm
John (Cloquet, MN)
You know what the Vikes need, a good dose of Chester Taylor.
Zach Rastall (Marinette, WI)
Ed Hochuli had one bad call this year, and now people are using that to blame him for their team losing.
spencer (seattle)
stop complaing teams have to over come refs mistakes. at least thats what everyone tells seattle fans
Josh - Olympia, WA
Way to stuff Bush inside the 10 on a punt.
joe (mpls)
the vikings defense should never leave the field they are much better at offense than the actual offense
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Jay, not to many Baltimore fans are here today.
Marshall (San Diego CA)
Way to represent the 619 Reggie!!
Jeffy T Kasson, MN
I'm sorry did i just see us tackle a punt/kick returner???
Brandon (Minnesota)
Yeah bush. When all else fails: Run backwards
Buzzmaster (10:40 PM)
Someone should have told Custer.
Brian (Houston, TX)
another missed facemask call on the Bush return. Incidental, but still...
Buzzmaster (10:41 PM)
I thought he got the back of the helmet there.
lou merritt (slidell,la)
Is there a stat for negative yards? If so, Reggie is making those tacos better than anyone. Very un-boss moves
Roger (Pittsford, NY)
Vikes need a new offensive cord. with that talent and not yards.....something has to give
Josh - Olympia, WA
Could we see the Vikings get a Safety....
Ken, NY
Wow, Moore is disappointing
Steve (NJ)
Brees to Henderson for a long td.
Zach (CO)
I sense a fumble coming up
Paul (Lorain, OH)
Bush tries to score on every play, and sometimes you get those negative plays..
Buzzmaster (10:42 PM)
The Saints trying out their screen-pass blocking. Unfortunately, it was a draw.
Grant (Grand Forks, ND)
Bush is a good slot receiver. Running back...Meh.
Bubba73DT
I thought that the Saints would really put it to them ??
Josh - Olympia, WA
Bush just needs to use the force.
Scott (Plymouth, MN)
Defense will always win games..
Buzzmaster (10:43 PM)
And cliches never get old.
Brandon (Minnesota)
Why is it that if there is one missed penalty or a bad call. Then thats blamed for the whole loss.
Buzzmaster (10:44 PM)
What the heck was that by Brees?
Bubba73DT(Kentucky, BG)
Drew Brees most accurate QB I have seen
John (Cloquet, MN)
The Vikes defense is giving 110 %
spencer (seattle)
people dont like to blame there team brandon. I would agree with you
Josh - Olympia, WA
Because no one wants to take responsibility for their poor performance.
Dusty
turnover ratios decide games...
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Nice pass deflection.
Joe (Philly)
Saints fans want to ignore the 3 turnovers their team had and instead blame the ref's it's easier
Marc (San Diego, CA)
One of the announcers said the Vikings have never run back a blocked kick for a TD. This isn't true! In the playoffs in 1976 (Dec 26) Bobby Bryant ran back a blocked FG 90 yards for a TD versus the Rams.
joe (mpls)
a jared allen sighting
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Brees has happy feet when pressured
Paul (Lorain, OH)
Vikings pass rush making it hard for Brees... although he has a lot of yards from before.. has someone figured out how to stop him?
Brandon (Minnesota)
Wheres the Punt-O-Meter?
Josh - Olympia, WA
Punts 3 Vikings 1 Saints
Zach Rastall (Marinette, WI)
I blame ESPN for the Saints' turnovers.
lou merritt (slidell,la)
Listen here Paul, I have seen the so called potential from bush. No longer using caps, mind you. Powerful. He is a gimmick. You see the highlights, I see every play by play. He just isn't that great.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Reggie Bush sits there wondering why he gets paid so much.
Jeffy T Kasson, MN
I blame RedSox nation
travis (New Orleans, LA)
im not ignoring the turnovers we made those mistakes but i dont think the refs should help because without referee help right now the score would be much tighter
Scott D
Totally! Punt-O-Meter rules.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
I will trade you Chris Perry and Cedric Benson for Reggie Bush...the Bengals could use him
Donski (Fargo, ND)
Marc, They've never run back a blocked FG for a TD in the Regular Season...
John (Cloquet, MN)
I have a feeling AP is going to break one here.
Nicholas (Apple Valley, MN)
Cliches never get old? That "cliche" fits this game perfectly. Technically you can still win a game with out an offense. You ain't going to win one with out a Defense.
Buzzmaster (10:49 PM)
What if the other team takes a knee every play?
Josh MN
I have had my share of disagreements with the refs over the years, but its called human error and its what makes the game unique. The refs are part of the game and thats all there is too it, good or bad.
joe (mpls)
5 step drop play action!!! 9 yards....yay
kyle (iowa)
that was the first play action pass that was called in the right situation
Nicholas (Apple Valley, MN)
Who's going to take a knee every play if there's no defense?
Buzzmaster (10:50 PM)
Who isn't going to put a defense on the field?
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Will the game still be unique when we have RefBot 2000 monitoring the game?
Ed Hochuli, New Orleans
I didn't see anything...Sincerely,Ed
Scott D
Totally! taking the knee rules!
Buzzmaster (10:51 PM)
Scott D is peppy.
Steve (NJ)
The refs suck because they are part tim and don't have enough training. Oh, and most of them are old.
Bemidji Mn
The Vikes have been getting hosed in non calls all year long starting the first week in Green Bay, and now I am supposed to feel bad because the saints had one call in this game missed? Get over it and play better football!
Jay (NY)
Josh from MN obviously has had problems with the workers at Foot Locker.
Punt-O-Meter (Superdome)
Sorry I'm late. I was on Burbon St having fun. Anyway so far this game we got only 5 punts. Let's get to double digits Vikings and Saints.
Chris D (Jax Beach, FL)
Put Tavarious in and AP will rush for 200 yrds and 3 td's. Go figure.
Brandon (Minnesota)
The Refs live in there own little world. according to OTL
Grant (Grand Forks, ND)
What if the offense took a knee in the endzone...
Joe (Philly)
The Saints people yes that's the Saints turned the ball over 2 time and the Vikings took advantage of that scoring 10 points thus you have a 10 point lead this has been Football 101
Nicholas (Apple Valley, MN)
I like this game, will you marry me?Seriously though, the Vikings have no offense and they're winning. Had the Saints not turned the ball over and gave us ridiculous field position we'd be shut out with out the defense.
Buzzmaster (10:54 PM)
Ergo defense is winning this game. Not games, plural.
Josh - Olympia, WA
Joe that is 4 Turnovers. 2 Bush, 1 Brees, 1 INT
lou merritt (slidell,la)
I think Radiohead said it best with their song "let down". Let down and hanging around, sounds like downtown New Orleans in about an hour and a half
kyle (iowa)
this is vikings football, build a lead than punt, punt, punt, punt, maybe an occasional fieldgoal and get beat in the end. You have to put teams away, if they don't score soon the saints will be right back in this
Jay (NY)
I live in my own world, don't know it until you try it.
Donski (Fargo, ND)
Tavarious is a way cooler name than Tarvaris...
Steve (NJ)
Late hit!
Grant (Grand Forks, ND)
Something tells me that pass coverage is not a strong suit for Jared Allen...
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Drew Brees does his worshipping the devil signal then completes a pass.
Paulie (Brooklyn, NY)
Brees is such a beast
Jay (NY)
Definitely said that wrong....it must be past my bedtime. Have fun people and get off my lawn.
Steve (NJ)
Hochuli is cluless!
Jeffy T Kasson, MN
The Vikes will secure this win with a INT TD...Its gonna happen.... has that feeling to it..
Confused (at home)
Why is the ref saying an essay on what happened?
Brandon (Minnesota)
Does Ed Hochuli think he has to explain himself "every play"?
spencer (seattle)
ed had that call right
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Ed, give up, stop explaining your calls - no one cares and people will dislike you more for doing it.But I admire you work out persistence.
spencer (seattle)
brandon ed had done that his entire carrer, i happen to like it
Ed Hochuli, New Orleans
I'm making this stuff up as I go along
Grant (Grand Forks, ND)
I thought that Ed Hochuli was going to bust out the Constitution in order to lengthen that explanation...
Pete (NC)
Angels on 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs. Down 2-0.
Chris
is it just me, or is Ed Hochuli rattled right now or what?
Steve (NJ)
Brandon, I was thinking the same thing. He is so scared out here. he needs a vacation. I feel bad for him.
Buzzmaster (10:58 PM)
Want to get away?
Buzzmaster (10:59 PM)
2-2 Angels tie it up in Boston.
Donski (Fargo, ND)
Two run single... TIE GAME!
Mike (Lexington, KY)
i get the feeling everyone is a little testy tonight...ed cant catch a break and the viking fans want childress fired even though they are winning
Grant (Grand Forks, ND)
Wow, Torii coming through in the clutch and the announcer has a heart attack...
Buzzmaster (11:00 PM)
I get the feeling there are more people in here watching baseball than football.
Josh - Olympia, WA
we are very fickle fans.
Donski (Fargo, ND)
I feel good for Torii; he's a class act and he deserves to be there...
Jason, Oklahoma City
Is there a Buffalo Wild Wings in MN somewhere that Ed is talking to when he goes to the replay booth? "What do you guys want me to do?"
Pete (NC)
Buzz, there is only one October. And November and December...
Joe (Philly)
Hey Buzz they could be watching wrestling
Grant (Grand Forks, ND)
Is there a football game on today?
Steve (NJ)
Ok, Reggie Bush stinks at running. he should have gained more on that play.
Josh - Olympia, WA
It might be the fact that the Vikings have stalled and so have the Saints.
Jeffy T Kasson, MN
baseball ended when the Twins lost.... stupid coin flip
Buzzmaster (11:01 PM)
That's a creative way to get into punt position.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
break out the paper bags....hahahaha
spencer (seattle)
haha saints football
Steve (NJ)
oh my
Ken (Richmond, VA)
Why do they keep running Reggie? He sucks as a running back? Pound the rock with Deuce.
Patrick (Louisville)
Saints have a case of the yips tonight.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
WOOOOO FUMBLE TALLY!!!
Grant (Grand Forks, ND)
Right when I thought the Saints were done giving this game away, Drew Brees has an ace in the hole. Five hole that is...
Dusty
what a pathetic performance
Punt-O-Meter (Superdome)
6 punts. 4 more to 10.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Whoa, was that suppose to be a WR direct snap, that wasn't even close to Drew.
Steve (NJ)
How is that conidered a Drew Brees fumble?
Jeremy Shockey -NO
Give me the headset...Take a seat Sean
joe (mpls)
they keep running bush in hopes he can bust one on the outside, since nobody can run on the vikings interior defense
mike (nola)
Brees is having a contest with Justin Masterson to see who can ruin a game better
Brandon (Minnesota)
What was that about Brees being a beast?
Mike (Lexington, KY)
the Saints have done the proverbial one step forward 2 steps back tonite
GK, San Diego
Not sure why the Saints don't go screen pass to Reggie Bush. If it's set up right, that can work all night.
Buzzmaster (11:04 PM)
They've tried.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
A Vikings TD here could be enough...i still think the Saints can put up some points
Ray (Center Point)
Steve doesnt watch many viking games thats a given dropped passes in a viking game.Worst Part he is still the best wo we got
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Antoine Winfield, Defensive Player of the Week.
Buzzmaster (11:05 PM)
Martin Gramatica, Defensive Player of the Weak.
Grant (Grand Forks, ND)
I hope the saint know that every time they run the ball, they are literally giving up a 20 yard pass...
Ed Hochuli
Offsides on the defense but the offense false started when the defense tried to come across the field so hence the false start is ruled as a false start and the defense doesn't get penalized because the false start overrules the defensive offsides but since the offsides doesn't count we have to place the ball 5 yards backwards instead of forwards. thanks
Josh - Olympia, WA
Look at that hip check. Here comes punt #7
Donski (Fargo, ND)
3 and outs are fun for everyone!
Brandon (Minnesota)
Its times like these that i wish we still had Culpepper and Moss
Buzzmaster (11:06 PM)
Wow. what a block on the Bush return TD!
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Yeah fire Reggie Bush....lol
joe (mpls)
biggest block ever!
Punt-O-Meter (Superdome)
Woot! We're up to 7 punts!!
Joe (Philly)
WOW nice return Reggie Bush!
Brandon (Minnesota)
WOW WHAT A HIT BUSH SCORES!!!
Josh - Olympia, WA
Here comes the saints special team with a couple huge blocks.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Reggie Bush... what are you doing? You were suppose to run sideline to sideline 3 times than go down field for a score.
Chris D (Jax Beach, FL)
Reggie Bush is the best football player ever..
spencer (seattle)
with blocks like that i could have ran that back!!!!! great blocking
Grant (Grand Forks, ND)
Vikings special teams will have none of this lead.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
that was a serious decleater....ouch!!!
Ken (Richmond, VA)
That's exactly what the Saints needed. Now we'll see if this is a permanent momentum shift of if the Saints will keep making mistakes.
Brian (Houston, TX)
HOLY COW that guy got destroyed on that block! And yeah...Bush is totally overrated.
Donski (Fargo, ND)
Its times like this that I wish we had punted it out of bounds...
Brandon (Minnesota)
E.J Henderson out for the season...while his brother Erin gets P-U-N-K-E-D
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
That reaction was hilarious!
Bill Cowher (NFL Today Studio)
Give me the headset Childress, your time is over.
Buzzmaster (11:09 PM)
I don't think Bill is going to about the only place colder than Pittsburgh.
cc (philly)
what is the score my tv just messed up
Buzzmaster (11:09 PM)
Vikings 20-17
Joe (Philly)
Bush isn't that impressive as an Rb or Wr but he is as a all returner
Donski (Fargo, ND)
Its a morbid combination of the Vikings and the cold that cause me to drink. True story.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Kardashian's boyfriend gives the Saints hope
Grant (Grand Forks, ND)
Vikings feel a little guilty so now it is their turn to make mistakes
Buzzmaster (11:10 PM)
Arm may have been moving forward anyway.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
FUMBLE TALLY!
Sam (FL)
Its not colder the Vikings are in the dome always a cool 73
Buzzmaster (11:11 PM)
You gotta get to the stadium.
Ken (Eagan Mn)
Vikings offense gives Saints hope
Prescott Valley, Arizona
That is all the saints needed to get in the game. The vikings offense wont answer like always. We can pray for a defensive score again.
Paul (Lorain, OH)
I love how a viewings mind is when watching Reggie bush. You watch him fumble twice, run backwards on some plays, and you get frustrated. then he changes the game in seconds on just one play. Incredible.
Josh - Olympia, WA
False Start on Vikings
Nick (Janesville, WI)
I agree, give Bill the headset!!
Paulie
who else thinks the vikings shoulda started jackson?
Brandon (Minnesota)
Hochuli? Im sure u have more to say about that false start
Grant (Grand Forks, ND)
Some people ask me how I am a Twins fan and not a Vikings fan. This game is going into the reference section of my autobiography...
Buzzmaster (11:12 PM)
The Amazon preorders must be through the roof.
Donski (Fargo, ND)
Nobody thinks the Vikes should start Jackson. Ever.
joe (mpls)
the best team of all time at wasting time outs
Gus Frerrotte (SuperDome)
is it time for me to blow the game yet?
Zack ( EastGreenville, PA)
Adrian Peterson needs to get his vikeings going and take control of that offense with some big rushing plays or the saints have this one
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
I think they should state anyone whose last name isn't Frerotte, Jackson or Booty.
kyle (iowa)
3rd and 13 and call timeout, as if there is a chance to make it anyway. Gus must have forgotten who is calling plays it will be a pass short of the first down
Buzzmaster (11:13 PM)
And Kyle plays the role of Nostradamus.
Nicholas (Apple Valley, MN)
Hey, need 13 yard? Throw it 3! Typical Vikings offense. Such trash.
Grant (Grand Forks, ND)
Apparently Hochuli has discovered that brevity is the soul of wit...
Ken (Eagan Mn)
Paulie in this ofense we could start Joe Montana in his prime same result
Brandon (Minnesota)
BRING BACK RANDALL CUNNINGHAM!!!
Steve (NJ)
I bet Testaverde's not doing much these days...
Buzzmaster (11:14 PM)
Wade Wilson?
Mark Wisconsin
As a Vikings fan, I hope the Vikings lose till they fire this moron Childress!
Josh - Olympia, WA
Punt #7
Buzzmaster (11:14 PM)
And Bush falls down when he had the angle!
Brandon (Minnesota)
And Thats Why Bush Is Overrated
Josh - Olympia, WA
Who can stop Reggie best? Own two feat.
Steve (NJ)
Wow! he was gone if he didn't fall!
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Reggie Bush has taken over...
Punt-O-Meter (Superdome)
8 punts and no one got leveled this time.
Ken (Richmond, VA)
That's embarrassing.
Steve (NJ)
Wow, did we just get a 'bring back Randall Cunningham?' Can i get a ruling from the Eagles' fans?
Nicholas (Apple Valley, MN)
I heard the Saints cut Harrington for the second time this season, he still has to be hanging around town right? Vikings should hit that up!
Zach (Minnesota)
We have the worst special teams I have ever seen!!!
SuperDome Turf (NewOrleans)
I'm the only one here that can tackle Reggie Bush
milky (NJ)
I don't understand why they don't punt it out of bounds.
Chris D (Jax Beach, FL)
If ony you could have a punt return on first down..
Jason (NY)
Hey vikes fans, remember in 1998 when you're offense could actually move the ball? Those were the duys huh?
Ken (Eagan Mn)
Heck Bring back Mike Tice
Dustin (Fargo, ND)
Why do the viking's even put players on the field for special teams...it does no good
Mike (Lexington, KY)
no that was backwards
Joe (SouthPhilly)
So let me see if I have this right the Saints should just punt the ball leave it to their defense to stop the Vikings who will then punt to Reggie Bush who will run it back for a Td and win the game?
Paulie
almost at 300 passing yards through 3 qrs
Grant (Grand Forks, ND)
Yes, run the ball versus passing for a first down every single play.
Steve (NJ)
It's just crazy enough to work, Joe!
kyle (iowa)
vikings had their chances to put them away, and now they are paying for not
Vikings Cornerbacks (Not in the Superdome)
You guys got directions to the Superdome? We're lost.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Jared needs to bring back the Mullet.
Buzzmaster (11:19 PM)
The rare pooch punt coming?
Buzzmaster (11:19 PM)
Nope, long FGA
lou merritt (slidell,la)
Wow, a Tice and Cunningham mention. Is Matt Millen trying to put together a fantasy team
Barry
Grammatica BETTER make the sign of the cross...
Buzzmaster (11:20 PM)
Nails the long FG.
Josh - Olympia, WA
Time game...oh no!!
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Whoa, someone stop him from celebrating to much, he might get hurt!
spencer (seattle)
grammatica thinks that was at the end of regulation fo rthe win holy cow celebrate much?
mike (nola)
Holy smokes, Gramatica did sometho=ing well!
Ken (Richmond, VA)
Gramatica still celebrates every kick like he just won the Super Bowl. That act got old 10 years ago.
Bryan (MN)
Ken in Eagan, your FIRED!
Brandon (Minnesota)
Wouldnt it suck to be a grammatica? I wonder where Bill is. Its been a while since he tore is ACL celebrating a 30 yard field goal.
Grant (Grand Forks, ND)
Perhaps one day I will be able to tell my grandchildren that the vikings in the year 2008 were able to score 20 points in a game...
Jason (IL)
Joe we Bears fans call that strategy the Hester Offense...... see our record from last year to find out how successful it is
Chris
Damn, the vikes should have kept Mike Tomlin as coach. I've been saying it all along (seriously)
Paulie
I need 3 Tds from Brees tonight. Dosent seem like its going to happen?
Paul (Denver, CO)
Harrington would be good
Joe (SouthPhilly)
Gramatica and the word right for some reason just doesn't seem right to me
Steve (NJ)
Cut Grammatica some slack; if I was making what he makes to kick a ball, I'd be celebrating a bunch myself. PKs in the NFL - LVP until they're MVP
Buzzmaster (11:23 PM)
I'll say it again, Few Seconds of Panic is a fantastic football read about life in the NFL for kickers.
Pete (NC)
So at work today, I actually did my job and I got up on top of my desk and hooted and hollered and made a huge fool out of myself.
Nicholas (Apple Valley, MN)
Hey Buzzmaster, why don't you guys use the cool Flash chat (that you use for Baseball Gamecasts) for this? Having to refresh the page manually is a pain in the butt.
Buzzmaster (11:24 PM)
Try here: http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/sportsnation/index
Grant (Grand Forks, ND)
The Vikings better run off a 13:14 second drive ending with a field goal if they want to win the game...
Chris (MN)
In Gus we trust??? Anybody??
Donski (Fargo, ND)
Anyone think we have a chance at getting Garcia? The Bucs seem to hate him...
Buzzmaster (11:25 PM)
Vikings imploding before our eyes.
Grant (Grand Forks, ND)
And the Vikings are inching closer to that kneel in the endzone...
Mike (Lexington, KY)
2 false starts....good grief Charlie Brown
Brandon (Minnesota)
Snap Infraction? Are you kidding me?
Ken (Eagan Mn)
In Gus we trust in chilly its a bust
Steve (New J)
I just noticed Ed's pink breast cancer awareness pin. Now i like him.
Chris(MN)
God, the vikings are choking again....can someone please call Robert Horry and put him in as our Quarterback?
Andy (Minneapolis)
I'm off the Gus Bus. We don't need to discuss much.
Josh - Olympia, WA
Typical Vikings here.
Tom (Chicago)
Why won't Gus throw the ball to AP? Why make a throw you have no chance of completing?
Mike (Lexington, KY)
the receivers arent helping
mike (nola)
punt it to reggie again!!
Buzzmaster (11:27 PM)
That's what you get for punting to him.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
OMG Reggie Bush is awesome
Josh - Olympia, WA
WOW!! The Vikings didn't even looked they tried on that one.
Brandon (Minnesota)
You gotta be kidding me
Nicholas (Aple Valley, MN)
hahahahahahaha.
joe (mpls)
hahahaha awesome....i love the complete awfulness of this team
Ken (Eagan Mn)
They did
Ken (Richmond, VA)
How can the Vikings be that stupid?
Tracy (Baton Rouge, LA)
REGGIE!!!! Geaux Saints!
Shane (LAfayette)
reggie bush is making up for those lost fumbles
Cincinnati, OH
lifer Viking fan.....I hate this team. Why do I keep rooting for them?
Steve (New J)
Are you kidding me? Does this punter have a brain?
Punt-O-Meter (Superdome)
9 punts and counting. One more to double digits. The Vikings get the dare devil award for kicking to Bush again.
spencer (seattle, wa)
give it up to the punt return team, not just reggie
Grant (Grand Forks, ND)
One might say that the Vikings fan base is in shock, but nay, it is business as usual.
Buzzmaster (11:28 PM)
And the Angels just had a game-saving diving catch.
Chris D (Jax Beach, FL)
What have we learned from this? No seriously, what?
Joe (SouthPhilly)
Honestly who didn't see that coming I told you that's what would happen
Buzzmaster (11:29 PM)
Just in time to lose the game on the next play.
Sean (Las Vegas NV)
Fire Childress right now. He is pathetic.
Donski (Fargo, ND)
sox win!
Mike (Lexington, KY)
reggie can beat you in so many ways...tonite it is on punt returns
Jonathan (Papersackville)
did anyone doubt that the Vikings would blow this?
Joe (SouthPhilly)
I told you Saints punt leave their defense stop the Vikings who punt it to Reggie Bush who win's the game why is this a shock?
Meredith (LA)
Red Sox win!!!
Chris D (Jax Beach, FL)
All the more reason to let Reggie return kicks and let Duece run the rock and control the clock..
Kevin Washington (Baltimore, MD)
Move over Devin Hester! Reggie Bush is just as ridiculous!
Ken (Eagan Mn)
Its all in the game plan to move the Vikes to LA..
Joe (SouthPhilly)
Peole calm down the Saints are playing the Vikings not a real Football team
Ditzzo
Bad time for us Vikes fans
Grant (Grand Forks, ND)
I hope everyone sees why I said that I am going to reference this game in my autobiography. An instant classic. Now onto chapter 2...
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Reggie Bush, a first round punt returner!
Aaron (Dao Xian China)
Hey I'm all the way in China so i'm just watching the scoring update, why isn't Duece getting the ball? Again!
Triscia Germantown, WI
As a Packers Fan...I am in heaven! ALways love to see MN suffer a ridiculous loss!!
Shane (Lafayette)
AP seems mad haha
Adam (Baton Rouge)
Reggie's new best friend is anyone who kicks for the Vikings.
Grant (Grand Forks, ND)
No, Reggie Bush is not that good. The Vikings are literally that bad...
spencer (seattle, wa)
still 11:29 left. What else can happen cant wait to see
Triscia Germantown, WI
Sorry Peterson, u ain't got nothin on Bush!!
Nicholas (Apple Valley, MN)
At least the Timberwolves are starting up soon! Oh wait..
Buzzmaster (11:33 PM)
Frerotte hurt on the long pass
Tony, MN
Peterson has nothing on Bush? You're kidding right?
spencer (seattle, wa)
he caught a ball!!!!
mike (nola)
uh oh. Gus "The Franchise" Ferrotte is down
Jeffy T (Kasson, MN)
warm up Booty
Joe (SouthPhilly)
If Peterson was on a real team he would be dangerous
Bill
Yessss, Jackson is gonna come in. Saints are gonna win afterall!
zach (san clemente, ca)
Ouch, I don't even like the Vikes but I hope Gus is alright
Josh - Olympia, WA
At least it was a completed pass.
Joe (SouthPhilly)
Hey good news for the Vikings their Qb is out
Tom (Chicago)
Wow. Talk about a shot on Frerotte...
Brandon (MS)
Aaron, the offense never touches the ball because Reggie Bush returns it every time!
Zach (Minnesota)
hey Triscia dont talk matt ryan beat you guys yesterday
John (Cloquet, MN)
Yes Gus is fine. Only a wall could take him out!!!
lou merritt (slidell,la)
Are you kidding me!!! Peterson has nothing on Bush? All return men fade away quickly. The X factor or X man or whatever he was in KC. Micheal Lewis right here in NO. Much rather have Peterson.
Adam, NY
Reggie Bush ruined my evening!
Paul (Denver)
nice wall reference
Taylor: (Las Vegas, NV)
Are you serious AP? 16 carries for 31 yards? Gus Ferotte could rush for more than that.
Reno (BFE)
I am now offically turning my attention to gopher football, and that is pretty sad
DJRay(NYC)
Just like the Vikes... trying to make sure they create a QB controversy too out of this bungling of a good win.
Chris D (Jax Beach, FL)
What ever happened to the XFL?
Buzzmaster (11:38 PM)
Scouting destinations for Brad Childress?
bukkweet
Pushing off... good call (FINALLY).
Josh - Olympia, WA
Looks like the refs are switching sides for this half.
Ken (Richmond, VA)
Vikings are killing themselves with penalties.
Paul (Denver)
gopher hockey is the way to go
Buzzmaster (11:39 PM)
Two Vikings in the same spot and somehow one catches it for the TD.
Ken (Eagan Mn)
Holy bejeze
Brandon (Minnesota)
OMG WOW What a catch
Ditzzo (Sherman, TX)
BAM! Vikes score
Mike (Lexington, KY)
what a TD....ferrotte is having a decent game
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Wow.... wow.... wow.... what an amazing play.
Chris, OH
oh my!!!
Dustin (Fargo, ND)
yeahhhhhhhhhh we caught a ball
Jonathan (Papersackville)
berrian has hands?!
Meredith (L.A.)
Was that even intended for Berrian?
Ken (Richmond, VA)
I didn't even see Berrian there? Incredible.
Josh - Olympia, WA
Hey look at the catch. We have a Viking QB throwing a touchdown.
Grant (Grand Forks, ND)
Benard intercepted the ball from his teammate!
Joe (SouthPhilly)
How did that happen Vikings defend their own player better then the Saints did and he still caught it?
Jason (IL)
Where were those catches for the Bears last year Berrian!?
spencer (seattle, wa)
there he earned his money!!!!!!!
Jeffy T (Kasson, MN)
worth every penny
Paul (Lorain, OH)
I didn't even see Berrian in the frame.. good catch.
Grant (Grand Forks, ND)
Gopher Hockey? Please, the Fighting Sioux make that team look like a USHL team...
Fred (Houston)
Saints will put it away in the next drive...
Buzzmaster (11:40 PM)
Squib kick.
kyle (iowa)
that is how pathetic the vikings plays are, two recievers running opposite routes to the same spot. very fortunate to get that one
Reno (BFE)
Its just like the vikings to get their fans' hopes up, but Im not fooled.
Ken (Eagan Mn)
This game is way bizzarre
Josh - Olympia, WA
I'm with you on that Grant. Just look at all the championship banners.
Joe (SouthPhilly)
Ok here comes a poll will the Vikings kickoff to Bush yes or no?
Nicholas (Apple Valley, MN)
We scored on a deep pass? Impossible. I don't believe it. Hochuli must have put on a Vikings uniform and ran that route.
Wayne (Tampa, FL)
I must say im impressed with Reggie Bush in this game i expected him to fold against the vikings defense
Josh - Olympia, WA
Jeez, he tried to take his head off!
Ken (Richmond, VA)
$100 says this is the most entertaining MNF game of the year. If there's something that can top this then I want to see it.
Tony (Hugo, MN)
Where was that tackle earlier?
DJRay(NYC)
Wow..things are rough in Minn....not only do you have to beat your opponents defense for the ball, but apparently your teammates too....
Chris D (Jax Beach, FL)
This night reminds me of the XFL coin toss where the kick the ball down the field and who ever falls on it wins..
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Wait, Ken, did you see last weeks MNF? That was by far the best.
Mike (NOLA)
great. the one good corner we have is now hurt
Grant (Grand Forks, ND)
And for those that think Josh is just joshing with me. Literally, look at the championship banners...
Josh - Olympia, WA
Poor, Saints offense forgot how to take a snap.
Ken (Eagan Mn)
Time for Saints penalties
Chris, OH
so...the saints have an offense?
Ken (Richmond, VA)
I did Brendan and there's no way that was better than this game.
Barry (Metairie, LA)
Still trying to figure out why Payton isn't playing Deuce more... saving him for division game?
Mike (Lexington, KY)
back to back overtimes???
Buzzmaster (11:44 PM)
Good lord, this is turning into a video game.
Buzzmaster (11:45 PM)
Miller absolutely rocked after a fantastic catch.
Ken (Eagan Mn)
Holy what a hit
spencer (seattle, wa)
wow what a freakin hit!!!!
Jeffy T (Kasson, MN)
SIT DOWN!
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Miller meet Mr Griffin
Paul (Lorain, OH)
Miller got JACKED UP!... sorry that's twice in 4 minutes I've used that..
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Then you obviously don't enjoy Punts and Joe Flacco.
Grant (Grand Forks, ND)
Griffen sent that TE back to the future with that hit!
John (Cloquet, MN)
Griffin is taking guys out left and right.
Paul (Denver)
nice throw, catch... Better HIT... CLEAN TOO
DJRay(NYC)
DOWN GOES FRAZIER !!!!
Tommy (Mandeville, LA)
Helmet-to-helment, fine time...
Joe (SouthPhilly)
Wow nice catch and run but Clobbered knocked him right out of his socks
Mike (Lexington, KY)
miller for the saints dropped his head and got nailed
Josh - Olympia, WA
Helmet to Helmet hit.
Paul (Lorain, OH)
If they fine him for that I'll be upset..
Buzzmaster (11:46 PM)
The helmet was the first thing to make contact.
Josh - Olympia, WA
They will... He lead with his head...
Ken (Richmond, VA)
Sorry Brendan. I'm too caught up in this game to notice your sarcasm.
Grant (Grand Forks, ND)
It is a mystery to me that an offensive player can lead with the head and the defensive player cannot...
Mike (Lexington, KY)
so you want to be an NFL player...ouch
Mike (NOLA)
after looking at the replay, miller clearly dropped his head. can't call that a dirty hit
David (Washington, DC)
Tough hit, but clean. Miller dropped his helmet to lower his shoulder, or Griffin wouldn't have had helmet contact. Brutal.
Paul (Denver)
me too.... it's a physical game, stop being babies. that's why hockey is better
Chris (Atlanta, Ga)
Clean hit, my rear. That is as dirty as it comes. He should be suspended. I am shocked that the refs messed it. /sarcasm
Scott (Houston)
does helmet-to-helmet count when the offensive player lowers his head? Im not so sure that would have been helmet-to-helmet if miller didnt move his head
Ken (Eagan Mn)
Had his arms extended
Brandon (MS)
Why wouldn't he get fined? That was an obvious helmet to helmet hit, and they did say they are much more strict this year on those hits.
Grant (Grand Forks, ND)
Now would it be illegal for the Saints to punt it backwards to Bush?
Buzzmaster (11:48 PM)
So if Gramatica actually kicks a game-winning field goal, what's his celebration like?
Josh - Olympia, WA
Not saying it was a dirty hit, you can tell that he lead with his helmet and his helmet was the first thing to make contact with the helmet.
Bill (Modesto CA)
FIRST DOWN!!
Mike (Lexington, KY)
well i just hope the martian will miss the FG if it comes to that
Barry (NOLA)
Deuce is loose!
Chris D (Jax Beach, FL)
Both teams should be fined, and there coaches..
Paul (Denver)
no, i think a backwards punt is legal... would that technically be a pitch?
Grant (Grand Forks, ND)
Here comes the play that will extend the game. Take your pick: INT, Fumble, FG try, pick your poison...
Bryan (Albuquerque, NM)
I need Drew to make a TD pass to someone other then Henderson. Asking to much?
Jason (PA)
Crain kick that results in a slipped disk
Josh - Olympia, WA
Torn ACL time.....
Ken (Eagan Mn)
Maybe Gramatica can head butt Frerotte?
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Vikings are not ready for the playoffs.
Buzzmaster (11:51 PM)
Vikings may not be ready for the GMAC Bowl.
Ken (Eagan Mn)
Playoffs? What Playoffs?
Grant (Grand Forks, ND)
Now is around the time that Minnesota would put Jessie Crain in the game. Luckily, that is in another sport...
Mike (NOLA)
Gramtica will drop down and do the Soulja Boy
Anish (Houston TX)
Get Reggie a screen pass!
Josh - Olympia, WA
I could have told you that the Vikings are not ready for the playoffs, but hey they are still a great team to watch/love/hate
Mike (Lexington, KY)
miss it miss it miss it
Pete (NC)
fake fg is all we're missing
Buzzmaster (11:53 PM)
Shank
Triscia Germantown, WI
MISS??? OMG
Mike (Lexington, KY)
ya mon....that is why i like the martian
Paul (Denver)
no good... hahaha
Jonathan (Papersackville)
does he still celebrate the miss?
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Olindo Mare or Gramatica? Same dude.
Nicholas (Apple Valley, MN)
Now, the Vikings will get stopped and punt to Reggie and he'll return another one. Mark my words.
Ken (Richmond, VA)
Gramatica comes through with his usual choke job.
Chris, OH
wow. all i can say bout that
Buzzmaster (11:54 PM)
Thanks, Forrest.
Forrest
life is like a box of chocolates...
Paul (Denver)
at least it wasn't blocked
Meredith (L.A.)
Not even close
David (Washington, DC)
That's not a huge shock - what's the league-wide percentage from 46 yards?
Buzzmaster (11:54 PM)
I'm going to guess it's north of 60 percent.
kyle (iowa)
this might just have the perfect combination of ugly, yet exciting to be one of the best games i have ever seen.
Nick (NOLA)
OMG GRAMATICA....!! HE CANT HANDLE THE PRESSURE!! WE NEED A NEED A NEW KICKER!!!!
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Forrest Gump was pretty good at football....
Jonathan (IA)
next on the choke list - Gus Frerotte, COME ON DOWN!!!!
Ken (Eagan Mn)
OVERTIME ANYONE?
Grant (Grand Forks, ND)
Now the common thought would be for the vikings to go for the FG, but I have a feeling that they are playing for OT...
Jeff Fisher (5-0ville)
Doesn't that seem like an oxymoron . . .they had field goal problems . . .so they brought in gramatica?
Josh - Olympia, WA
How do you do a 2 minute drill? Run the ball of course.
Steve (New J)
Are Vikings playing for OT?
Buzzmaster (11:56 PM)
And Bobby Wade stays in bounds on the catch for no gain. Brilliant.
Chris, OH
This just in..4th and 14...vikes punt and Reggie returns it for yet another TD
Meredith (L.A.)
Maybe Longwell can just steal Gramatica's celebration dance when he hits the game winning FG?
Nicholas (Apple Valley, MN)
Dink and dunk all day long. Couple short runs, and we make it to the 50 before the clock expires.
Steve (New J)
Yea, Bobby Wade wasn't even looking forthe sideline
Ken (Eagan Mn)
Vikings always play for OT
Buzzmaster (11:57 PM)
Pass interference inside the 15
Mike (Lexington, KY)
uhoh interference
Scott (Houston)
ROFL PASS INTERFERENCE
Josh - Olympia, WA
Pass Interference.....Oh no Vikings are going to win....Thank you refs....
Grant (Grand Forks, ND)
Wow, that was a great play call! *Pinch* Yes! That was a great play call!
Mike (Lexington, KY)
huge win for the vikes if they can convert the fg and not give up a huge return
Ken (Richmond, VA)
There is no excuse for committing pass interference when it's double coverage. That's just a stupid mistake.
spencer (seattle, wa)
cant arguee that one
Joe (SouthPhilly)
Come on your kidding me here right Pass interference does the Saints want to win?
Jonathan (IA)
the vikings will find a way to blow this somehow
Nicholas (Apple Valley, MN)
What a horrible play by the corner. And I thought the only bad corners were the Vikings!
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Joe Flacco wouldn't have pass interfered.... oh wait....
Steve (New J)
They should just let them score the td. it is their only shot.
Joe (SouthPhilly)
Do the Saints want to win this? Do they feel sorry for the Vikings and want them to win?
Grant (Grand Forks, ND)
If you think the Vikings are going to win this game. Oh, I've got a big surprise for you!
Paul (Denver)
refs DIDNT interfere.. just for your information
Scott (Houston)
@Josh - Olympia I didnt see the refs mug the WR without looking at the ball. Even the Saints fans didnt complain.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
the saints defense have definitely improved but it may not be enough tonite
Scott (Houston)
This just in: The Vikes bring in LEROY HOARD who fumbles at the 1...
Longwell (Superdome)
This will be easy. I don't miss.
Nicholas (Apple Valley, MN)
Downside is if the Vikings win, it's likely Childress doesn't get fired. :/
Meredith (L.A.)
This is gonna be a gimme for Longwell.
Triscia Germantown, WI
No pressure Longwell...
Josh - Olympia, WA
Let not forget the infamous WIDE RIGHT incident against the Ravens.
Ken (Richmond, VA)
The Saints are obviously pretenders after this game if they weren't already.
bob Nyc
who'd of thought the vikes could win with such a bad night from AP?
Patrick (Baltimore)
Joe Flacco could kick this field goal.
Paul (Denver)
yeah... I would rather get a better coach. Still an improvement over Tice
Pete (NC)
my guess is tony romo comes in and fumbles the snap on the fg
Buzzmaster (12:01 AM)
Vikings lead 30-27.
Tracy (Baton Rouge, LA)
freaking automatica gramatica my behind.
Meredith (L.A.)
Ok...the Vikes will try to kick it away from Bush...and will kick it out of bounds, giving NO the ball at the 40
Ken (Richmond, VA)
What are the odds that Gramatica gets cut tomorrow?
Paul (Denver)
i would LAUGH if they kicked it to bush
Grant (Grand Forks, ND)
Now, will the Vikings onside kick?
Ken (Eagan Mn)
Kick off goes to Bush OMG!!!
Brad Childress (Superdome)
HAHA I DON'T GET FIRED HAHAHAHA
Christopher Columbus
Just think. If I wouldn't have discovered the New World, this would not be happening.
Buzzmaster (12:02 AM)
Short kick to Stecker.
Triscia Germantown, WI
what a waste of 2 kickoff returns for TD's...it was all for negated by one pass interference call...
Paul (Denver)
I would pitch it back to him... seriously
Jason (NY)
Plenty of time left.
Brandon (Green Bay)
In feelin a successful hail mary here
Grant (Grand Forks, ND)
Sadly, that squib was probably the longest kick off the Vikings have had all game long...
Buzzmaster (12:03 AM)
Picked off to seal the win.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
great interception
Brandon (Minnesota)
WE WIN WE WIN WE WIN
Ben (Maine)
I would cut the defense tomorrow
Paul (Denver)
just goes to show you shouldn't interfere with a pass
Steve (New J)
Why not throw like a 20 yrd ot, stop the clock and then get another play?
Ken (Richmond, VA)
That was an ugly pass. Is that really the best they could do?
Josh - Olympia, WA
Game Over man...Game Over
Punt-O-Meter (Superdome)
I'm disappointed. Only 9 punts tonight. Oh well back to Burbon St.
Brandon (Minnesota)
Come on...I need to get to bed so i dont miss the morning buzz
Buzzmaster (12:05 AM)
10 a.m. ET!
Chris(NOLA)
omg, GRAMATICA LOST THE GAME FOR US!
Grant (Grand Forks, ND)
This game is definitely going into my autobiography, under the title 'Miracles Can Come In Many Forms'
Buzzmaster (12:05 AM)
