Chat with the Red Bull's Macoumba Kandji

Kandji has established himself as a speedy and athletic player with great striking abilities after scoring 13 goals as part of the Atlanta Silverbacks. He made his MLS debut against Colorado Rapids on September 27, after signing with the New York Red Bulls on a loan until the end of the 2008 MLS season.

Macoumba will be here soon!
Macoumba Kandji (3:03 PM)
Hi everyone, I appreciate the support!
McLovin, Tampa Bay, FL.
I follow the Red Bulls since we don't have a team down here in Florida. How do you like playing with Juan Pablo Angel? Do you think he's one of the top 3 players in MLS?
Macoumba Kandji (3:04 PM)
He is a very experienced player and I am learning a lot from him. It is a big advantage playing with him. I do think he is one of the top 3 forwards in the league. It is very exciting playing with Juan Pablo.
Brad (Gadsden,Alabama)
Where is the toughest place to play other than New York?
Macoumba Kandji (3:05 PM)
I would say Portland in the USL. I have not played away games yet with the Red Bulls, this coming game will be my first. But to give you an answer I will say Portland in the USL.
Brendan, CO
How are you feeling going into the home stretch of the MLS season? Does Red Bull New York have what it takes to make a deep playoff run?
Macoumba Kandji (3:07 PM)
Yes we definitely have a chance. With the players we have we can definitely make a deep run. But we need to work hard. We cannot just expect to make it because we have good players; we have to work hard. And that is what we are going to try to do in these last three games.
Greg (baruch)
Yo Mac! what is the biggest difference between the USL and the MLS?
Macoumba Kandji (3:09 PM)
There is a bit of a difference. The USL is very physical and the MLS is very technical. So that is the biggest difference. The MLS is also physical, but it is two times more technical than the USL. I think it is an advantage for me, as I will improve my technical game and I am already used to the physical game.
Cristiano, Manchester, England
In terms of future goals, do you see yourself one day playing abroad, maybe in Europe?
Macoumba Kandji (3:10 PM)
Yes that is my goal, it always has been ever since I was a little kid. I hope in a couple years I will make it happen with hard work and dedication.
DoggieDawg (da bronx)
I am curious to learn what a regular practice day looks like for you guys. How many practices do you have each day?
Macoumba Kandji (3:11 PM)
Well right now with the season coming to an end, we practice once a day, but sometime we also do weight training. Today we did weights and then practiced. So we can work out, at times, twice a day.
Mark (Avenel, New Jersey)
Is Coach Osorio going to give you a chance to start opposite Angel this week? We need your speed up front bro!
Macoumba Kandji (3:12 PM)
We have been working on a lot of stuff. We will see what happens. He has not told me for sure yet how he is going to use me. We will see what happens.
emilio (PARSIPPANY,NJ)
What things do you need to improve on the most? Any chances of playing for Senegal?
Macoumba Kandji (3:14 PM)
Well the things I need to improve the most are my left foot, which is getting better each year and learning my runs, which I can learn from coach and Juan Pablo and all the great players here. And there is definitley a chance to play for Senegal or the U.S. National team. Both are options and we will see what happens.
Skeeter (Da Bronx, NYC)
Who is the best player you have ever played with?
Macoumba Kandji (3:15 PM)
So far I will say Alex Chacon, he was the 2001 MLS MVP. I played with him in a friendly against Olympia of Honduras in his retirement match, and he was probably the best I have played with so far.
Cristina: (New York, NY):
What advices is Head Coach Osorio giving to you?
Macoumba Kandji (3:17 PM)
He's told me to learn from Juan Pablo and listen a lot, and really learn from this opportunity. He has told me to make the best of this situation.
Timmy, Maine
What is your favorite pre-game meal?
Macoumba Kandji (3:17 PM)
Definitely pasta. Since last year, my first year as a pro, everytime before a game I have been eating pasta. And it has been working so far so I am going to keep eating it!
Ben, Atlanta
What's your favorite type of music to listen to pre-game? Who do you want to see in concert?
Macoumba Kandji (3:19 PM)
I like all sorts of msuic, but before a game I like to listen to Lil' Wayne. I love Lil' Wayne. T.I. is another guy and Jay-Z as well. Right now that is what I am listening to before games.
Brendan, New York
Has the transition into MLS been a difficult one?
Macoumba Kandji (3:20 PM)
Not really. At the start I was getting used to playing on turf versus grass. But the transition has been pretty easy so far.
Brad (Gadsden,Alabama)
What other sports do you like to watch?
Macoumba Kandji (3:21 PM)
I love football and basketball. I love football, I am a big fan of the Florida Gators and I also like watching the Colts. I liked the Falcons when Vick was there. As for basketball I am very big Kobe Bryant fan, so I am a Lakers fan I guess.
Macoumba Kandji (3:23 PM)
Again, thank you for all the support. I am going to keep working hard every day to get to the highest level possible. Thank you all for your support. Have a great day. God Bless!
