Mark Garrow (3:59 PM)
Good afternoon everyone...let's get he partaayyy started!
Rob (Marietta, GA)
Hey Mark! What do you think of the 25, 00 and 82 chances for this week? I'm strongly considering AJ in the 00 but that team just feels like it's weaker than his old 84.
Mark Garrow (4:01 PM)
I agree Allmendinger in the 84 would be solid..but is "iffy" in the 00..
Mark Garrow (4:01 PM)
As for Keselowski in the 25 let's just see if he makes the race first and then go from there.
Bily (Lancaster, Pa)
What would have happened at Dega if it were JR who have done exactly what Smith did and he did it not to the 20, but lets say the 26 car?? I mean the fans would be going crazy watching "their guy" make a huge pass and cross the finish line first!! They would be celebrating like crazy! And then, Nascar, in less than five minutes, reverses the outcome and gives the win to the 26??? No way that happens if you ask me. The fans would have torn down the grandstands. Your thoughts Mark??
Mark Garrow (4:04 PM)
Hard to say what would have happened under your scenerio..but I'll say this as soon as I saw Smith make his move I thought he wasn't far enough up beside Tony and NASCAR was going to take him down and they did..Would they have done that to Junior if he had committed the infraction I hope so, but I can't be sure.
guru you were so right about the crapshoot last weekend. 4 out of my 5 went down, so my question is i have skinner but if i can get speed or aj should i?
Mark Garrow (4:06 PM)
Josh, I'd let things sort out after practice and qualifying...I liked Skinner a lot more at Talladega than I will at Charlotte..but Speed's in a completely new deal and AJ is with MWR 00 that hasn't shown much on 1.5-mile tracks...By the way four out of my five got wasted at Talladega too..
I read an article recently by Ricky Craven in which he calls for a change in the way restarts are conducted. He wants the lapped cars placed behind the lead lap cars and all the cars on the lead lap restarting side by side in two rows just like the start of the race. This way the lead lap cars are not held up by the lapped cars allowing for much better restarts. Meanwhile, the lapped cars can fight it out for the lucky dog (which I hate by the way but thats another issue. He concludes that this change would make for better races and I agree. The only downside that I can see is that a really good car who got a lap down would not be able to get out in front of the leaders and get back on the tail end of the lead lap. But for every one time this happens we have many other times where the lapped cars are simply in the way which always seems to result in the top 2 or 3 cars jumping out to a quick start, getting clean air and then we play follow the leader til the next caution. Maybe he is not the first or only expert to call for this change. Have you heard about Nascar considering this and do you agree it would be a change for the good. Am i missing something?
Mark Garrow (4:08 PM)
This is the first I've heard of this idea and I haven't heard NASCAR is thinking about it...But I will say it should get a serious hearing because it would put some "juice" back into some of these races and make the restarts far more entertaining...Not a bad idea, but out one of the major flaws and I'm sure NASCAR will have others..Still, worth some thought I think.
jake, charleston SC
hey guru, what do you think speed, clausen, and keselowski are going to do this saturday?
Mark Garrow (4:09 PM)
Hard to say Jake..I think we need to see where they qualified before getting too serious. Speed and Clausen are raw rookies, but Keselowski has a good number of laps at Lowes and he's been testing Cup car for Hendrick quite a bit lately..He might be intriguing.
Guru How ya doing PlayBoy...You can mark it down the 24 or the 48 to victory lane this week i said it last week should have been the 88 but he got caught up so what do you say 24 to victory lane
Mark Garrow (4:10 PM)
Sorry Big Poppa, Gordon does not get the win at Charlotte..It's the big three again just like Kansas 48,99 or 16..maybe a 17..
Good Evening Mark Hope all is well just wondering how you think brad Keslowski will fair in the big Race and please rank theese drivers...48,24,99,16and the 55...thanks and have a great week
Mark Garrow (4:11 PM)
Just weighed in on Keselowski..he might have some potential this weekend for a top-25..as for the ranking deal..48,16,99,24,55...and you're welcome.
Mark Garrow (4:12 PM)
Would like to take a second to ask again if you would write to me at tg2vt@aol and give me feedback about my chats and other stuff you get from to hopefully help your fantasy picks..If you get a minute it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

For the value pick this week, which is a better risk: taking the unproven Scott Speed in a proven car or taken the already proven 'dinger in an unproven car.
Mark Garrow (4:14 PM)
Speed is an unusual talent but he will be a raw rookie making his first start...Allmendinger would be the safer play for a top-25..maybe a little better..Need to take a serious look at qualifying and practice before locking this one in.
dm, los angeles
whats up guru tough week last week gotta love dega. anyway need four drivers , 5-12-1-43-9-6-19-26 and two 28-44-84 is aj racing this week? thanks for the help and good luck
Mark Garrow (4:17 PM)
You're telling me...9,5,19, and 6..44 and at this point 84 but would like to see where Skinner qualifies..AJ is racing this week driving #00 for Michael Waltrip and beginning next week is supposed to run the five remaining races with Gillette Evernham in their #10 Dodge after Patrick Carpentier was let go. Mike Wallace will attempt to qualify that car this week.
whats up guru, i got the 99, i need another driver with him but i only have the 48 two more times.should i use one of him up this week or save him? if i should save him who should i go with?20-11-24-29-31-17. thanks partner.oh and by the way you wanted feed back on how your advice has been helping....guru your pretty damn good i must admit, those yahoo experts are not even close to you, ever since i found you around the bristol night race ive been doing really good, cant wait till next year when i get a full dose of your wisdom. your damn good guru keep up the great work
Mark Garrow (4:18 PM)
I think you can save 48 and go with 17 and not do too badly in the exchange...Thanks for the kind words Scott ..could you please e-mail them to email@example.com..thanks and have a great day.
Jason (Bellefonte, PA)
Guru: Need your advice once again. Please select two from the following for this week- 20,24,31,48,99. Select four from- 5,6,8,9,12,16,18 and two from- 28,44,66,77. One odd question for you, who will lead lap #200 and lap #300 this week (can be the same driver). Thanks again!
Mark Garrow (4:21 PM)
48-99...9,16,6,8...44 and probably the 28 because of Roush connection and they way Roush guys run at Charlotte overall...99 lap 200..48 lap 300..just a wild guess though..but I can see 99 dominating some of the race but 48 coming on strong late to take him down.
Mark need 2. 17,31,48,99 need 4.6,9,18,19,43 need 2. 00,22,28,44,83,84 do you see anbody have a good run this week. Did Goodyear ever come up with what went wrong with the tires last week. 3 of my 4 drivers was effected by tires last week, and what the he-- was the 99 thinking, thats 2 weeks in a row he has made bad moves at the end of the race, any thoughts?
Mark Garrow (4:23 PM)
48-99...6,9,19,18...44 and 83..Goodyear th problems with the tires last week started with cuts or punctures because there was no evidence tires were blistering or coming apart...99 is going for it that's for sure..maybe a litttle too much perhaps.
Hello Guru! You think the 24 can win this race??What ya think about these picks-24,48(pick one), 9,16,26,8(pick 2) 44 or the 55.Thanks for your input!!
Mark Garrow (4:24 PM)
Can't pick the 24 to win..would take the 48 over him..16, and 9 but really tempted to go with 8..44
You think the 24 will end his winless streak this weekend? How bout the 88,any chance for a top5??
Mark Garrow (4:25 PM)
I don't see the 24 winning but I can see him finishing fourth to 8th...Dale Jr. is a top-10 car potentially, not a winner eitherl.
Mark can you settle something once and for all for me and my friends? Is there such a thing as a team like HMS, Gibbs, or Roush giving one of their drivers the "good" stuff and one of their others drivers equipment that is "not as good"?? I find it very hard to believe that teams so well funded would have inferior equipment. Isn't AlL their stuff "good"? Maybe in a case like Tony Stewart the team withholds some TEchnical findings so he can't take it with him butt in the case of the 48,24,88 and even the 5 arn't they ALL getting the same stuff or does the 48 team for example get "better stuff" than say the 5 team??
Mark, what time is the chat on Saturday?
Mark Garrow (4:28 PM)
The chat is at 4:00 eastern.
Mark Garrow (4:31 PM)
Jimbo, my answer didn't go through..but no one team at HMS or Gibbs gets "better stuff" than the others..For example, Rick Hendrick demands that any engine they are running on a partuicular weeknd be within five horsepower of each other..What they might do however with a Casey Mears who's not in championship contention is to experiment with him with a different engine combo or radical chassis deal..that way if it doesn't work they have not damaged the 48,5, and 24.
Mickey Mouse (Florida)
Do you consider DEGA BABY a legit nascar race?? I mean all year long on every other track you have to have a combination of speed and handling and good pit work Etc ETc. Then we go to DEGA and Mike Wallace and Paul Menard are just as good as the top teams. What kind of a race is it when the two best teams, 48 and 99, WANT to run in the back and be the last on and off pit road Etc. Teams on Saturday did not even want to go out and practice. To me the race is a joke. Is it exciting because "anything can happen" ?? Yes I guess, but is it Legit? Especially this late in the chase? It would be "exciting" if they played game five of the world series with aluminum bats and a softball but is that a good way to decide a championship? I say no. What do you think guru??
Mark Garrow (4:35 PM)
Talladega is simply a crapshoot..and I've got to admit I feel almost helpless handicapping that race because a blown tire can wipe out a player's entire team...and it can make me and you look like complete idiots..Next time, I'm putting numbers in a hat and draw them out..lol...It's just part of the deal man...we don't have to like it, but there it is...It's fun to watch but agony to pick a good team..No one is safe until they make it back to the garage after the checkered flag.
tom - wisconsin
Narrow it down Mr. Garrow!!!! A - 17,20,48,99 (pick 2) B - 1,6,9,12,18,19,88 (pick 4) C - 28,44,Keselowski (pick 2) Thanks
Mark Garrow (4:36 PM)
48,99...6,9,88,18...44..and flip a coin 28 and 25...need to wait and see about qualifying and practice or just flip a coin..
George ( TX )
Hey Mark ! 48 or 99 .... rank the 8,6,9,5 and 44 or 00. Mark do you think AJ will do well this weekend ? Thanks !
Mark Garrow (4:38 PM)
48 is on a roll man..looks like the teflon man where nothing bad sticks...6,9,8,5,44,00...Ragan will surely challenge for a top-10..Will Kahne be as good as he was in the spring? Maybe..inconsistent lately that's why I put him behind 6..8 should be top-10 potential..5 and 44 top-15 potential..00 top-25..
Hello Mark:For my SCC game;I took a beating last week at dega; For this week what about 48,16,24,17,84. Any other suggestions? Thanks for your help!
Mark Garrow (4:39 PM)
First four are pretty solid..would like to withhold judgment though on 84 until at least after qualifying.
hello guru, i dont have anymore 88-18-16-8 left to use,i need two drivers out of these options that you feel are my best chances, 43-12-9-19-6-26-5-1 thanks for your help guru
Mark Garrow (4:40 PM)
In that group Dave, I'd go with 6 and 9.
corey (Sioux Falls, SD)
Hey mark me again....Need 1 of each chevy, ford, dodge, and toyota. Thoughts?.....I am thinking 48, 99, 9, 20...only second guessing 99 or 16
Mark Garrow (4:41 PM)
Chevy..Johnson...Ford Biffle...Dodge Kahne..Toyota Kyle Busch...Stewart not a bad pick either.
Gale (Clark Bros. Garage, IL)
Hey Mark, I have four drivers locked that I want for the rest of the way. I am going to play around with my 5th driver. I have 12.3 or below to spend and have Skinner locked in right now. Good choice? Or do you think differently? We have four 1.5 mile tracks left. Will Skinner drive the 84 even close to as good as Dinger?
Mark Garrow (4:42 PM)
Gale, that's the big question..with Allmendinger 84 is legit top-15 contender on a track like this..With Skinner who knows?..Need to see how qualifying turns out and if any other low budget guys shine in qualifying and/or practice.
Will the 55 get a top 10 this week or maybe the 77...i need help in my C group from yahoo
Mark Garrow (4:43 PM)
If either gets a top-10 that's a lot of bull..oney..sorry..top-25 maybe..
Mark, can we get rid of 'Dega from the SCC. I mean, it runied me from having any chance of winning unless I score about 900 this week. Anywasy, who are our op dawgs this week and couple of budget picks to start the chat off. Thanks
Mark Garrow (4:46 PM)
Here's my pre-race top-15...1. Jimmie Johnson 2. Greg Biffle 3. Carl Edwards 4. Matt Kenseth 5. Jeff Gordon 6. Kevin Harvick 7. Jeff Burton 8. Tony Stewart 9. Brian Vickers 10.Dale Earnhardt, Jr. 11.David Ragan 12.Clint Bowyer 13.Kyle Busch 14.Denny Hamlin 15.Kasey Kahne ....as for low budget picks...Mears maybe..Allmendinger, Skinner, and Blaney will also get some consideration I think after qualifying and practice.
Anyway to find out who in the world scored 860 last week and who was on that team?? I've been trying to search without avail... S/he near doubled me up.
Mark Garrow (4:47 PM)
I'd love to know that deal to..I'll try to find out who the lucky son of gun was and see if the golden horse shoe is still welded in place..lol..
Matt (Charlotte, NC)
What are the chances Kyle Busch even finishes in the top 5 of the chase standings?
Mark Garrow (4:47 PM)
Not going to happen...has an outside shot but don't see it happening..
How do you feel about Junior in Charlotte? Came in fifth earlier...
Mark Garrow (4:49 PM)
I see him as potential top-10...He didn't look very good in the last two 1.5-mile races at Kansas and Chicagoland and finished poorly at Charlotte last fall although that doesn't really count because he was with DEI.
Guru - your picks of 99, 48 16 and 17 to win does not sit well with me. Let me explain - If I am trying to win seg 3 in scc, with that lineup and a budget pick, I will never catch the guys that are about 300 points ahaead. I need you to call it for me and the other faithfuls and let us know who to drop now a(16 maybe, 17 maybe) and work our teams around JJ and the 99. Thansk. Ill see u on Saturday. When is the chat?
Mark Garrow (4:51 PM)
Chat Saturday again is 4:00 eastern...as for the rest of the season I would rank those four drivers like this..48,16,99 and 17..
JJ (Reno, NV)
can hornish put in another good finsish at LMS?
Mark Garrow (4:53 PM)
If you look at some of the guys who finished behind Hornish in May..Do you think he's going to be Tony Stewart, Kevin Harvick, Mark Martin, Denny Hamlin and Clint Bowyer again? I don't...maybe he sneaks a top-20 but he'll be lucky to run top-25..He won't finish 13th again like he did earlier this year.
John ( Buffalo)
Guru I have one 48 pick left. Do i use it this week or save it for Martinsville where it seems harder to find other really good options? Thanks as always
Mark Garrow (4:54 PM)
John, I would save the 48 pick..may need it for a rainy day...
Cactus Jack (New Mex)
Will 18 pull it togather this week?
Mark Garrow (4:54 PM)
It's going to happen eventually...I can see 18 getting back on the beam at Charlotte and finishing top-10 or better.
how about the 8 this week top ten
Mark Garrow (4:55 PM)
Anytime Mark Martin gets in the 8 car it has potential for a top-10...Mark might be able to do a little better than that.
Ken (Hendersonville, NC)
Mark: Like you I bombed out at Dega thanks to Edward's screwup. By the way the fishbowl did 296 points better than 99,48,16,17& the 21.
Mark Garrow (4:56 PM)
I'm still bleeding...what can I tell you...
Do you think the 18 will get any momentum back in the last 6 races or is he just a top 10 car at best going forward? Do you see him winning again this year and if so where is his best chance?
Mark Garrow (4:57 PM)
Mike, he should be able to win again this year and his best chances will come on the intermediate superspeedways like Charlotte, Atlanta, Texas and Homestead.
Ken (Hendersonville, NC)
Any comments on Dodge,s new motor and who is running it. So far the old motor looks better.
Mark Garrow (4:59 PM)
Penske snuck in a test yesterday at Kentucky to test their new engine combination..it's work in progress so it will have its ups and downs..will take awhile to sort out.
dell (Asheborro, N.C.)
Mark Garrow (4:59 PM)
Will ya rank your top 10 choices Guru??Thanks, have a good one...
Mark Garrow (4:59 PM)
1. Jimmie Johnson 2. Greg Biffle 3. Carl Edwards 4. Matt Kenseth 5. Jeff Gordon 6. Kevin Harvick 7. Jeff Burton 8. Tony Stewart 9. Brian Vickers 10.Dale Earnhardt, Jr. 11.David Ragan 12.Clint Bowyer 13.Kyle Busch 14.Denny Hamlin 15.Kasey Kahne
Crispy Candy Land
Hey Mark thanks for the info on saving Jr. Last week. I have 1 pick left on Jr.,Kyle Bush and Jimmie Johnson. Not planing on starting them. How do you rank them in qualifying? /
Mark Garrow (5:01 PM)
18,48,88 for qualifying...
Hank (Portland, ME)
The earlier post about the restarts was interesting. Why would Nascar not want to make that change.? It seems like a much better way to conduct restarts.
Mark Garrow (5:02 PM)
Thought the idea about the restarts was interesting and I don't ever see it changing but you never know..It's a good enough idea it merits some serious thought.
Mark Garrow (5:02 PM)
Got to run everyone..catch you Saturday afternoon at 4:00 from the Lowes Motor Speedway...take care and have a great day.
