Scott's just about ready to go...finishing off his third diet coke of the day...
Scott Van Pelt (12:30 PM)
Hi...I'm here. I'm so excited about this chat today. I was reminded I had it five minutes ago...so I'm here at your service!
Chris (Bentley's, College Park MD)
Hey Scott -- it's almost college basketball season! Are you as pumped as I am? Are you ready for our Terps to surprise some people this year?
Scott Van Pelt (12:32 PM)
Yeah I'm fired up about college hoops. Love this time of the year period! Baseball playoffs, football, college basketball tomorrow night. As for the Terps...I know Gary tends to get the most out of his teams when he feels they are overlooked. So take that as you will.
Josh (Orlando)
Rays or Phillies?
Scott Van Pelt (12:33 PM)
Settle down sparky...the Sox aren't dead...yet. That said, I'll take the Phillies. I'll believe...I'm a believer.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
How can a man survive on pop tarts, Diet Coke, and whatever other salty snack foods you happen to consume?
Scott Van Pelt (12:34 PM)
You forgot the building block of all healthy humans: Sweet Tarts. I eat a lot of Sweet Tarts which come in fruity flavors and must have some benefit...because I'm still alive.
Jim (Lansing)
Small world! I was the GM at Bentley's from 1980 - '83. John Brown was the owner. Anyone know how he's doing?
Scott Van Pelt (12:35 PM)
John Brown is married, happy, but doesn't get out nearly as much as he used to! I'll see him Saturday.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Do you think PSU ticks off the SEC and Big 12 fans by crashing the BCS title game party?
Scott Van Pelt (12:36 PM)
Yes...because those fans will never believe that Penn State could run the table in their conference--and they might be right. But they don't play in their conference. I think it's a one game season for Penn State. Beat Ohio State and play for the BCS Title.
JB (TX)
Van Peezy! I got nothing, just wanted to call you Van Peezy.
Scott Van Pelt (12:36 PM)
Good lookin out!
Jason (LA)
Hey scott do you think the colts are back? The offense looked good but the defense went up against a bad offense so i am confident about the offense but not so much about the defense. What do you think?
Scott Van Pelt (12:37 PM)
Their next month determines the course of their season. It's a brutal schedule. If they go 3-1, people might be calling them the best team in the AFC.
Bryan (Cincinnati, Ohio)
Scott, who loses by a larger margin this weekend: Browns or Bengals?
Scott Van Pelt (12:38 PM)
Browns. Bengals will be sneaky this week. Home against Pittsburgh...sneaky. Take that however you will....
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
In the words of Lee Corso: "Not so fast my friend!" If PSU runs the table into the last weekend, don't rule out Michigan State to upset the Lions. They are a scary team. I hope you are right though. I'd love to see the Octogenarian get to his first ever BCS title game.
Scott Van Pelt (12:39 PM)
I like MSU a lot...but the game is in Happy Valley...and it MIGHT be JoePa's last home game. That's a helluva mountain to climb.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
That cubicle you sit in looks like a cell on webcam. It opens up on the other side of the camera, right?
Scott Van Pelt (12:40 PM)
Not really. Amanda is my jailor and she is a harsh disciplinarian.
Joe (Huntsville,AL)
Speaking of nutritional building blocks, telk to me about Pop Tart preference. Do you agree that you have to be part insane to purposely get unfrosted Tarts?
Scott Van Pelt (12:40 PM)
I eat frosted cherry exclusively and I can only find them at gas stations. I buy my food at GAS STATIONS. Think about that!
Daryl ((La))
I feel that LSU's game this Saturday is probably the biggest game of the season for LSU. Being taht LSU has never lost 2 games in a row under The Mad Hatter and if they can win this next game, then they will be back in the running for the West title. Do you agree with that?
Scott Van Pelt (12:42 PM)
Yeah South Carolina is always dangerous at home. And looking back at LSU, you realize that the points they gave up to Auburn and Miss St. were an indication that something like what Florida did to them was coming. That D is a tad overrated...or was.
Joe (Huntsville,AL)
Scranton is big today, are you watching The Office tonight?
Scott Van Pelt (12:42 PM)
I watch the BBC version...which means I can't watch the U.S. version.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
You live on Sweet Tarts, Diet Coke and pop tarts. You play video games. You use the Aqua Teen Hunger Force as a regular part of your show. Tell us the truth. You're really just a 15-year old kid with a glandular problem, right?
Scott Van Pelt (12:43 PM)
Accurate. Sad...but accurate.
Dr. Crentist
Keep sucking down Pop and Sweet Tarts, I want to get a Porsche.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Toasted or raw on the pop tarts, Mr. Van P?
Scott Van Pelt (12:44 PM)
Raw, never toasted...EVER!! (EVER) It turns the inside of the Pop Tart into lava .
Walt Williams
Who is it tougher for Tirico to put up with: Kornheiser or SVP?
Scott Van Pelt (12:45 PM)
Let's just say that Mike is surrounded with enormous challenges in the work place...
Joe (Huntsville,AL)
With your diet you must be ripped
Scott Van Pelt (12:45 PM)
I'm cut like Ned Beatty. Shredded like wheat.
Mikey (Valenica, CA)
SVP....what is your favorite hip hop group/artist of all time? Favorite song? thanks playa, stay up.
Scott Van Pelt (12:47 PM)
If I had to pick one...I have to start at the top with Rakim. But...if I get a 6-CD changer give me some Tribe, Guru, Method Man, Beasties, and 3rd Bass. (Somehow I just left Biggie, Pac, and Nas off the list)
brian (pa)
what is your favorite sport to cover and why
Scott Van Pelt (12:48 PM)
The only one I really cover is Golf. So I'd have to say....Golf.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Raw cherry pop tarts from a gas station. I'll start feeding them to my two girls. Maybe they can grow to your size and play in the WNBA so I can retire early.
Scott Van Pelt (12:48 PM)
You don't want a 6'6" bald daughter.
Brad (Carlisle, PA)
Tiger is still down with a knee injury. Think you and I (3 handicap) could take him if we played 2 man better ball?? I say nay.
Scott Van Pelt (12:49 PM)
Today absolutely. But the man can't swing a club. If we revisit in three months, no.
Matt (Clemson)
Hey Scott, how's the squirrel problem?
Scott Van Pelt (12:50 PM)
The guy at the hardware store tells me he thinks I have a Bear. Which makes the squirrels seem like little Jack Russell Terriers that I would welcome in my home.
Randy (St. Paul)
Is eating all that sugar how you got so tall? How tall are you, you look huge next to AP in that commercial?
Scott Van Pelt (12:51 PM)
6'6" and shredded...like wheat.
Alec (Cincinnati, OH)
Scott, you're my idol. See you after the Maryland/Duke game at the bar?
Scott Van Pelt (12:51 PM)
You'll see me at Bentley's this Saturday after the football game.
Joe (Huntsville,AL)
Where do you stand on grown ups dressing up for Halloween?
Scott Van Pelt (12:52 PM)
Opposed. Unless you are going to a party, but never try to win the prize. If you don't win the prize, then you wasted a lot of time and feel like a loser....because you are. Just sayin.
Joe (Huntsville,AL)
Flying must be hell for a gangly fellow like yourself.
Scott Van Pelt (12:53 PM)
Two words (no not first class): Exit Row! I fit just fine.
Joe (Huntsville,AL)
How do you confuse a bear with a squirrel problem?
Scott Van Pelt (12:55 PM)
Oh I have squirrels....I knew about that. The Bear is an entirely new discovery...and may actually be a "Bigfoot"-like myth. If it was a Bear the size of a squirrel, I'd kick it like Gramatica.
Scott Van Pelt (12:55 PM)
Got time for two more...make em good...
AD(Minn)
The commercial shoot was fun Bedwetter.
Scott Van Pelt (12:56 PM)
The truth of that spot is...we did it as a goof. I don't think any of us thought they were going to run it...they did.
Shane (Las Vegas)
Any advice for me if the redsox lose tonight.
Scott Van Pelt (12:57 PM)
Remember the parades. You've seen a ton of them in New England in the last five years. And if you have any Cubs fan friends...think of them.
Scott Van Pelt (12:58 PM)
Thanks for chattin...keep chatting amongst yourselves during the show. Make sure you at the Tirico & Van Pelt show page on ESPNRadio.com to chat. Thanks...pop tarts, sweet tarts, bed wetter, squirrels, I'm a disaster....and so are all of you. That's why I love you so much.
ESPNRadio.com (12:59 PM)
You can listen to Tirico & Van Pelt live at ESPNRadio.com...or watch Scott on webcam. Today Scott wil be talking to Peter Gammons, Missouri HC Gary Pinkel, Lee Corso of College GameDay, and PTI's Michael Wilbon.
Mike(Charlotte)
Who's a bigger poptart fan, you or the Buzzmaster?
ESPNRadio.com (1:02 PM)
Scott is definitely the bigger fan of Pop Tarts...
Alec (Cincinnati, Oh)
how often is this chat?
ESPNRadio.com (1:04 PM)
Hopefully every Thursday!
Joe (Huntsville,AL)
Thanks for chatting man, love your wit and bald guy perspective.
Mathew (Omaha, Ne)
Wheat Thins!!!
Dave (Tennessee)
I know how you boys in bristol love a new nickname or phrase... I was watching the G-men playing on MNF and while Brandon Jacobs was plowing over another unsuspecting defender... My dad who was watching with me dubbed him "the train that'll warp your frame" maybe a little to east tennessee-ish for your liking, but i thought it fit.
Alec (Cincinnati, Oh)
3 hours of SVP today = 0 productivity
Mathew (Omaha, Ne)
Is it me or does Scotts head look extremly shiny today
ESPNRadio.com (1:08 PM)
We turned the lights up!
Mike (Minot, ND)
I'm probably done working till 4 oclock.....3 central.
Hutch (Htfd)
True story, I usually by my lunch at a gas station, and I have to bargain w/ the mechanic who has dibs on the best sandwich.
Mike (Minot, ND)
SVP, How bout those Longhorns baby? I tried to tell you that defense was better than they got credit for. On to Mizzou!!
ESPNRadio.com (1:21 PM)
We've got Peter Gammons talking baseball next -- we'll see what he expects from Red Sox-Rays tonight!
The Rays
In the immortal words of Jabbles "One is all you need"
matthew (uxbridge,MA
why isn't bc ranked
ESPNRadio.com (1:24 PM)
We'll see if they beat Virginia Tech this weekend.
Akil (New Orleans)
Do you think the Eagles have a chance to get back in the hunt for the division title
Aryan (LA)
What's the number to call the show?
ESPNRadio.com (1:35 PM)
1-888-SAYESPN
Nick (St. Louis)
THE SVP, do you think Mizzou can beat Texas..... in TEXAS!? And if they do, any chance of a National Championship? God, I hope so.....
Kessler (New Orleans)
Why aren't the Falcons getting more love???
Kessler (New Orleans)
Why is USC ranked ahead of Georgia?
Jared (LA (Via Philly))
I would just like to thank Scott for showing the much due respect for the Phillies that we don't seem to get because collectively the whole country has it out for Philly Phans... World Series here we come. Bring on the Rays Sox.
jerry (pittsburgh)
Do you think PSU will be in the BCS National Title Game if they are undefeated and: Texas and Alabama each have 1 loss or Texas and Alabama each go undefeated?
Tommy Tuberville (Auburn,Alabama)
Am I going to be fired?
Carey (Tampa)
The Rays are still motivated by the disrespect in the early part of the season. They are going to Dance on the BoSox Diamond tonight--the ultimate payback. Don't need to throw no bean-balls when you get to Stomp-on-the-BoSox-Turf. Sweet!
Nick (St. Louis)
I'm also a CUbs fan living in the Durty Lou, aka: Enemy Territory, any advice on holding my own with arrogant Cardinals fans?
ESPNRadio.com (2:01 PM)
Get out now!
ESPNRadio.com (2:02 PM)
