ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:00 PM)
Is it Monday yet?Sure is. I'm ready for a fun game tonight and to chat about yesterday's interesting day. Glad to chat with you all.
Cameron (Charleston)
Can I get anything out of Derek Anderson in a trade?
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:01 PM)
This would've been much easier last Tuesday morning, but I can't imagine you'd be able to get much. Sorry, Cameron.
Adam (San Diego, CA)
Hello Keith. What do you think the odds are that Cutler will throw for at least 4 touchdowns and 340 yards? I NEED A WIN!!!!!!
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:03 PM)
Odds aren't good. I know that much, but at least this game has the possibility of being a shootout, so you'll have to root for a Vikings-Bears type of game. I do think Cutler will have a nice game, but not at that level.
Michael (Columbia, MO)
Should LT even start in 2 RB leagues anymore?
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:05 PM)
I'm asking myself that very question right now, since I've got him in a league in which I have Dominic Rhodes as another option. The Saints defense isn't great, which could help LT this week, but if you've got a legitimately better option than what LT's giving you most weeks, I think that you've been patient long enough and it could be time to sit him. But only if you've got legit options sitting behind him.
Josh (denver)
Need 13 points from cassel and grodkowski... chalk it down for a win?
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:07 PM)
Oh, you never count your chickens, Josh! The Pats could click on offense, score 4 TDs (but 3 of 'em rushing) and all you'd get out of Gostkowski is 4 points ... and if Cassel also threw a pick or two, you could come up short.I like your chances, but just trying to prepare you for the possible disappointment ahead! :-)
Eli (TN)
Any news on the Steven Jackson thigh injury? Will he miss any time or is this a minor bruise?
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:08 PM)
I haven't seen any news yet. He was set for an MRI today, so I'm sure we'll hear something by tomorrow at the latest.
Jim (Bristol, CT)
What are the chances Moss gets me 15 points tonight? I'm 1-5 and desperately need the win
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:10 PM)
I actually like Welker more than Moss tonight, just because I expect Champ to give Moss a bit more trouble. That being said, if Cassel can just hook up on one long TD to Moss, you should be able to get the points you need. Gotta get that score, though.
Charles (Austin)
Now that Brown and Curtis are back in the Philly lineup is it time to trade DeSean Jackson?
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:13 PM)
I would agree his value may be at its peak, if Brown and Curtis can stay on the field. McNabb will be able to spread the ball around better with all three in the fold, so Jackson's output could be streakier. It's worth seeing what you can get, but I still think Jackson will have a couple big games the rest of the way.
TR CLUELESSVILLE
PLEASE HELP, where do you have Ronnie Brown and Earnest Graham ranked going forward in a ppr league? thanks
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:17 PM)
The Dolphins were forced to throw the ball a little more than they hoped yesterday, but Brown still got 9 more carries than Ricky Williams, continuing a trend of him shouldering the rushing load. Graham is still sharing carries with Warrick Dunn and isn't as likely to explode, although he is on a better team. Tampa Bay appears to have the friendlier schedule in the next month or so, but I think Brown is the better player. I'd side with Brown, but only ever so slightly.
Jeff (Lincoln, NE)
Hey Keith!Someone dropped Joey Galloway in my 12 team PPR league. Should I give up any of the following to get him (please rank): Tim Hightower, Anthony Gonzalez, Lance Moore. Thanks so much!
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:19 PM)
I want to see Galloway on the field before I get excited about him, Jeff. He's up there in years and I don't think he's necessarily a better option than those other guys. Definitely not Hightower. Galloway will be a matchups play once he's back and fully healthy, much like Gonzalez and Moore are.
Josiah (South Dakota)
Yes, we have the internet here...Colston or Megatron the rest of the way?
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:21 PM)
I can't help but worry about Johnson having Orlovsky and/or Stanton throwing him the ball the rest of the way. If you saw the game yesterday, he saw his hail mary catch at the end of the first half (strictly fantasy stat-padding) and then happened to hook up on a 96-yarder. Orlovsky's just too raw to rely on. I'll go with Colston and hope that he can get that splint off his thumb, which obviously hampered him. At least he's got Brees chuckin' it to him still.
dre (nyc)
Whats up KL?So what kind of value can I expect with L.Moore now that Colston is back? He didnt look great Sunday but neither did much of the Saints. Also is Berrian an every week guy? ive had him on the bench 3 straight weeks for higher projected wr yet he is the one producing nicely.
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:24 PM)
Moore's not going to have many big games as long as Colston's healthy, but if he has a setback, Moore could still have a place, since the Saints spread the ball around so much. But he's a flex -- at best -- unless Patten and Colston are set to miss extended time again. And Berrian's a must-start right now. Too many big games in a row to ignore that.
ESPN.COM FANTASY'S READER MARK (Bham, AL)
Think Pittman can get me 100yds and a TD tonight?
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:26 PM)
He certainly can. The Pats' run defense has been underwhelming ... 4.6 yds per carry, and Pittman's already been the goal-line back, so you know he won't come out if/when the Broncos get inside the 10.
steve (DC)
Better bye week fill-in at QB - Garcia vs. Dallas or Pennington vs. Buffalo?
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:28 PM)
Garcia is the better option to me, because Dallas just hasn't been making plays on defense. They have allowed 9 TDs through the air vs. just 2 picks. And Garcia generally limits mistakes anyway. I think more of the Bills defense right now, which is far from what I thought at the start of the season.
Chris from Trenton, NJ
I was blacked-out of the Dallas game ... Did Roy Williams (WR) play? Box score says no catches!
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:30 PM)
Yes, he played, but only got one target. Even once he's comfortable in the offense, he's still the 3rd option in the passing game at best, with T.O. and Witten likely to get more looks. Williams could have a couple big games, because he's talented enough to do so, but I wouldn't treat him too much differently than you did Patrick Crayton prior to the trade.
Greg (Seattle)
Is Josh Morgan or Donnie Avery a worthy pick up for next week?
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:34 PM)
Well, Morgan showed flashes of what he could be on Sunday and he got 9 targets, too, which was nice to see. The 49ers passing game has had its moments this season and I like Morgan's upside more than Avery's.Avery's more likely to be consistent than Morgan, because of his current role, but for this week I like Morgan more against a poor Seattle pass D.
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:35 PM)
By the way, Jon Gruden in his press conference just said that Warrick Dunn has a pinched nerve in his upper back, so that can only help the fantasy prospects of Earnest Graham in the short term.
chris-ct
Why all the questions about "will so-and-so score enough to get me a victory tonight"??? Those are pointless! Would you do this trade Keith? Get Westbrook and give up MJD and Hines Ward? Looking towards the playoffs...
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:37 PM)
Well, Chris. I try to answer an array of questions, because everyone has different concerns ... this being the start of the MNF chat and all.To answer your question, I don't have a problem with that deal, if you get the sense that Westbrook will be good to go, health-wise. Definitely an upgrade from MJD and if you've got enough depth to handle the loss of Ward, it's nice to have a top performer like Westbrook.
K Dawg (RI)
What do you make of the rams offense, is it worth pickin up some of their players?? greatest show on turf back?!
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:39 PM)
Good one, K Dawg! That offense is still poor. The Rams have thrown for 200 yards just once this season. And if Steven Jackson ever does have to miss time, it could get ugly fast. Donnie Avery is worth a look in deeper leagues, but there's not much here that I like.
Dan (Buffalo, NY)
Keith, opened the season 3-0 and now have lost 4 straight...is it time to drop Maroney? (I've got Fargas and Julius Jones in my keeper league).
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:41 PM)
I'm not sure what's out there on your waiver wire, but it's apparent that the Pats are in no hurry to settle on one back to carry the load for them. So, even if Maroney shows he's 100%, it appears that they'll keep mixing others in each week. He can be waived if there's still someone worth grabbing on your wire.
Orlando, FL)
Hey Keith, in a Dynasty league, which side of this trade do you like better: Turner and Plax for Ronnie Brown and R. Moss. Thanks!
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:45 PM)
That's a tough one, since you're inclined to expect the old Tom Brady back next season to throw to Moss. With Moss and Burress being about the same age, and not expecting Moss to do what he did in '07 again, it comes down to the RBs for me and I like Turner more than Brown.
Joe (MN)
Are you selling high on Jacobs with difficult match ups on the way?
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:47 PM)
I'm not sure that Jacobs really is a sell-high guy, because he's still not getting 20 carries a week. Ward and Bradshaw are still being mixed in there and many times finishing off games. I think you have to hang with him, unless someone offers you a deal you find appealing.
Donald (Williamsville,Mo)
What did you think bout that hit Hines hit Keith with clean or dirty i think its clean?
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:47 PM)
Definitely clean again. I'd take Hines on my team any day.
Dan (Harrisburg, PA)
Follow up on Maroney: Would you drop him if Mewelde Moore was still available? Or is he useless with Parker due to come back?
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:49 PM)
Good question, Dan. These are the kind of things you have to try to get ahead of, if the opportunity presents itself.I would definitely drop him for Mewelde Moore because there's always the possibility Parker has another setback with that knee and Moore has proven he can do the job the Steelers are asking him to do, both against a good D (Jags) and a bad one (Bengals). Maroney's situation just isn't very positive for fantasy right now.
Jon (FL)
Hey Keith. Lil' help please. Should I trade McFadden for Colston in a PPR league?
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:50 PM)
I'm assuming you can use the help at WR, so I'd do it. McFadden will continue to split carries with Fargas, and even if Fargas goes down, with Bush. Now McFadden is capable of big games, because of his talent, but Colston is more likely to be a big help to your WR corps each week, especially if he can get that thumb healthy.
JP(NYC)
Got offered a trade. Send Chris Johnson and Housh for AP? I have the WR depth but is Petersen going to be that much better than CJ from here on out? I hate that White gets all those goal line touches!
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:52 PM)
I'd do that, because Houshmandzadeh is less likely to have big games with Fitzpatrick in there. Remember, Palmer could continue to have arm troubles. And Johnson will keep having carries stolen from him by White, so while he'll have some big games, Peterson is a stud!
Kai (Milpitas, CA)
What happened to Jerricho Cotchery and Santonio Holmes? How much can I count on them? How are they ranked along with DeSean Jackson?
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:55 PM)
Holmes can be a streaky receiver since he's more of a downfield threat than, say, Hines Ward. I still think he's a start most weeks, even in 2-WR sets. And Cotchery still got 7 targets yesterday, so I think he'll be fine. Just a bad day for Favre. I put both ahead of Jackson.
Tom (Boston)
I just have a comment for Chris in CT. Looking towards the playoffs now is pointless. If you look to far ahead you may not make it there. Especially if you trade MJD when he has Cle, Cin and Det in the next 3 weeks...
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:56 PM)
This is a good point to keep in mind. If you're 6-1 then it's a little easier to think playoffs, but you've got to get there first, so great to keep in mind. Thanks, Tom.
Adam (Chicago)
Are you buying the Kyle Orton? Top 10 from here on out? Top 15?
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:58 PM)
I think Top 15 is for sure, just because he's been so steady and not turning the ball over. And you could definitely argue Top 10. Who'd have thunk it?And after the bye, the Bears get the Lions, so lots to like there.
Kyle (Columbus, OHIO)
Hey KEITH! Would you give Graham and Cotchery for Addai in a PPR league? My other RB's are Barber, Bush (sniff), Lewis, Taylor, and Rhodes.
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (4:01 PM)
Addai's health concerns me enough that I couldn't do that deal. The one positive is that you've got Rhodes, so you'd have the Indy back, but they're just not able to run it very well, so it's not the same light-em-up offense it has been. You're not in terrible shape with the backs you've got and I still think Cotchery will be OK. I can see your side of things, but I personally wouldn't do it at this juncture.
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (4:02 PM)
OK, that's it for me. Gary Horton will be here to take over and break down tonight's game and discuss yesterday's action as well. Thanks for the questions, everyone!
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:03 PM)
Another crazy week in the NFL. I do not know if I ever saw a year where heading into Week 8 we do not know the personality of a lot of teams in the league. I can't believe we are not seeing more consistency. But I do know that the Titans are good.
Cory (Key Largo, FL)
Hey Gary!! Who's going to come out on top tonight in MNF???
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:06 PM)
This is a tough game to figure out because I do not know the Pats are as bad as they looked against San Diego and I do not trust the Denver D. I like the Broncos because of their pass offense versus a struggling secondary and a Pats defense that struggles to apply pressure. I think Jay Cutler will be the difference in this game.
David (Beaumont)
what up Gary. do you think kyle orton is for real?
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:07 PM)
Yes I do. I think he gets better every week. He is very comfortable in the offense and I really like his decision making ability. He is a better player than I thought he'd be.
Ryan (Maryland)
Howdy, Gary. Thanks for taking some time here today. What do you think of the Skins moving forward? I anticipate 11-5 or better looking at the remaining schedule...am I out of my mind?
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:09 PM)
No I think they are very solid. They are always going to be able to run the ball with prtis, Campbell has really matured and the defense is starting to come around. This is a very efficient football team and they have become very physical. With the Cowboys struggling, I think they are right in the middle of the playoff race. But in the NFC East it is easy for teams to knock off each other. The good news is that the Redskins have played all of their away division games.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Mr. Horton: Do you think this will be Brad Childress' last season in Minnesota (if he even lasts the entire season)?
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:12 PM)
I just do not know. I think he is an excellent coach. But this is a team that is not playing close to expectations and the owner spent a lot of money to ensure a Super Bowl run. what is bothersome is the fact that they look sloppy at times and they just make a lot of goofy mistakes especially on special teams. They do not always look like they pay great attention to detail, which may be unfair to say, but it is reflected in some of their scores.
Vic (Kailua, HI)
What took Shockey so long to start blasting at his team again? Did the Saints make a mistake in acquiring him?
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:13 PM)
I do not think so. He is a volatile guy, with a lot of talent. I think that his relationship with coach apyton is good enough that they can iron any problems out. They need Shockey in this lineup.
Carlo (FL)
What's going on with the Colts, plus having to go to Tennessee next. Is this now a must win game for them? Thanks.
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:16 PM)
It looks like it could be. The Titans and Jags both look good, and there are things that seem to be missing from the Colts both on offense and defense. I am not sure that all their problems are fixable. We will absolutely know if they have a chance to turn it around after they play a physical team like Tennessee. On defense they struggle to tackle and they cannot stop good running games, and Peyton still does not look comfortable and they do not run the ball either. They are a finesse team in a physical division and that may not work this year.
Tom (Chicago)
What's wrong with the Bears D? They aren't getting any pressure! I know the secondary is seriously banged up, but still.
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:18 PM)
Well the Bears have always beased their defense on a four man rush, where they can drop seven into coverage. But they can also count on the blitz if needed to. But with the banged up scondary, there is no way they can put those DBs on an island in man coverage, so what we will see is a four man rush with schemes designed to protect the DBs so QBs will have a lot of time to pass the ball...that may just have to be a fact of life with the Bears right now.
Plax
Now that I have a shiny new contract, I seem to think that I should get preferential treatment. Will my outburst during the game yesterday lead to another suspension from Drill Seargeant Coughlin???
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:20 PM)
Well Plaxico, I do not understand where your head is at. You are a defending SB champ with a great supporting cast, with a tough, fair coach, who has shown that his philosophy can help you guys win and you are playing in the biggest market in the world. Why would you screw it all up by missing meeting and poping off on the sideline. You are living a charmed life. I would not push your head coach too far because he has consistently shown that the team concept is better than individuals.
Larry (Pasco, WA)
Gary, are the Chargers troubles fixable enough to win the AFC West? The defense was terrible yesterday.
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:24 PM)
Well I just do not know how mentally tough they are. They certainly have the talent and they are in a winable division. But yestrday they went to a vanilla defense with no pressure on the QB. Their running game is anemic, and now they seem to think that the only way they can win is to have Rivers throw the ball. What scares me about them, is that I was not surprised that they went into Buffalo and lost. Because to me to go across country like that and win you need to have a tough mind set especially against a blue collar team like the Bills. I think this is a team that focused all offseason on where they would be in January, instead of October. And it may work for them, because it looks like a year where if you get into the playoffs anyone can win.
Tom (NY)
What are your thoughts on Trent Edwards? Will he help finally end the playoff drought in Buffalo?
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:25 PM)
I just watched some film on him today, and I am very impressed with his decision making and accuracy. He puts the ball in tight spots and play with composure and he takes what defenses give him. I think he is absolutely the real deal and the leader of this team. The Bills are not flashy, but they are very solid.
Eddie (NYC)
What about Minn's defense. I knwo the Bears are imporved, but 48 points? Come on now. How will they finish the year?
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:27 PM)
Well Minnesota's run defense is very good for the most part, but you can really attack them in the air in the middle of the field. They are just not a good match up group so unless they get pressure on the QB, you can expose them. But there is no way they should have given up 48 to the Bears.
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:28 PM)
I am looking forward to a very interesting game tonight that has a chacne to define both teams' seasons. Both are at a crossroads and the Pats especially need this game to retain their swagger. But we may be seeing a changing of the guard in the NFL, whether we like it or not.
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:01 PM)
Fella's It should be an excellent match up tonight with both clubs wanting to get back on track!!!!
James (CA)
How about a little respect for Purdue Quarterbacks?Orton and Brees looks two of the better in the leauge.
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:04 PM)
James,I was able to scout (with Cleveland) both of those QB's and your right, they are two of the better one's right now in the league, but Brees is the proven player where as Kyle still needs to carry it through and entires season before many will jump on his band wagon- Orton has talent and is making good deceision (getting the ball out, taking what the defense gives him, etc.) Let's see what happens in the second half of the season.
Glenn (NJ)
Defense question. I have Green Bay in a 14 team league with the saints and Oak being the best defenses on the wire. Now i know GB had a HUGE game this week but can i count on them to not get me negative points now that they have so many injuries...i have also been offered Titans defense and Brandon Lloyd for Hightower, good deal?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:06 PM)
Glenn, I believe that the Packers defense will be solid going forward this season but if you can get the Titans defense , I would do it.
DGA
What makes the Titans so impervious to the trap games that have seemingly tripped up every other elite team in the league this year?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:08 PM)
DGA,Jeff Fisher is one of the best coaches in the league with an outstanding staff, plus they have been relatively healthy thus far.
Kyle (Cedar Rapids,IA)
If the 49ers lose this weekend will Nolan be fired? If so, who will take over Martz or Singletary and what steps will they need to take to get the 49ers back to the old days?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:10 PM)
Kyle, There are several coaches on the hot seat and he is one of them. Looks like they need to make whole sale changes there (coaching and personnel staffs)
Dan (san diego)
Any hope Palmer has some fantasy value this year? I've got him, Orton, and Shaub, and I could drop Palmer to pick up Matt Ryan for additional depth. I'm comfortable with my other positions so I don't mind holding 3 QBs.
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:12 PM)
Dan, That's a good call to add Ryan and drop Carson , not because he isn't a good player but due to injury and the state of the team - Looks like they will struggle all season
Vic (Kailua, HI)
With all the coaching changes so far and the ones likely to come up before the offseason, I see Bill Cowher as a highly sought-after coach. Which team will win the bill Cowher lottery?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:15 PM)
Vic,"THE CHIN" will command high dollars where ever he goes and will want total control to boot. Before the season I thought possible the Skins or carolina but both have played extremely well and those coaches appear to be safe but there is a long way to go. He will go where he wants , when he wants PERIOD ! $$$$$$
David (Beaumont)
is matt forte the real deal? thanks Mr. Moll
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:16 PM)
David,Yes I do think he is a talented player but as you know the O-line will be a big reason for his success or failure.
Wow
St. Louis is in 2nd place in the wonderful world of the NFC West. Any chance they actually win the division after that awful start? They have beaten 2 good teams the past 2 weeks...
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:20 PM)
WOW,I really like Jim Hasslet as a coach , as he gives them a chance each week but let's see what happens the next two weeks (Traveling to New England and hosting Arizona in week nine)
Stefen (Nashville)
Ken- Who do ou think will win Offensive ROY? Chris Johnson or Matt Forte?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:22 PM)
Stefen, I would say Johnson is te front runner between those two players.
Younger (Los Angeles, CA)
Prediction for tonights game? The line is at 48.5 and every MNF has been a scoring fest. You think this will be another MNF game where you don't see defense?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:23 PM)
Younger, Both clubs have been sruggling on defense lately. The Broncos gcan light it up but I'm no sure how well the Pat's offense will respond after their loss in week six.
Evan (TX)
Two Really quick questions. 1, What do u see happening with Cedric Benson now that Fumble Prone Perry Is out of the Picture. And 2, Do u see Clinton portis keeping up this form all year, Or is he very valuable trade Bait???
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:25 PM)
Evan,Benson has talent but the O-line hasn't played well for Cincy. If Portis keeps it up he has a great chance to win it but again it's very early in the year right now.
Bonner
Will the Broncos go for the long throws all night against the Pats or will the Pats be able to cover the long ball and possibly even put up points on offense to win the game?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:28 PM)
Bonner, Belichick is good at making offenses go the long way. But the Broncos should get into the endzone a few somes tonight- Not sure that the Pats can score much unless they get a few turnovers.
Garrett (Fargo)
Marinelli keeping his job after this year? Does he make it all 16 games? The lions are HORRIBLE!!!
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:29 PM)
Garrett,Hate to say it but likely whole sale changes in the Motor city and soon ----
Dave (State College, PA)
Hey Ken would you trade felix jones and chris chambers for marques colston?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:30 PM)
Dave,NO !!
Tony (Montana)
Buy or sell: Cowboys make the playoffs
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:32 PM)
Tony, I'm very surprised that they are playing so poorly- Too much talent but it doesn't look good- 50/50 chance
Brian (Michiagn)
Will Bill Belicheck ever bow down to his own ego and admit that Cassell is not the quarterback that is going to take them to the playoffs and beyond this year? A loss tonight could be disasterous.
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:35 PM)
Brian, Your right it could be a tough night tonight but very few coaches (like Belichik) is going to admit they were wrong. Should have had a capable signal caller on the roster (but they didn't)- Same thing in Indy if manning goes down.
Bryce (Kamanawanalaia, HI)
Hey Ken,Do you know if Scheffler's going to go tonight or not? If not, who's the backup?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:38 PM)
Not 100% sure on Scheffler and Graham is the one two punch at that position.
Mike (Pgh)
Do you think Hines Ward will be fined for that hit on Rivers yesterday? And what does it say about Rivers when a WR can break a LBs jaw with one hit?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:41 PM)
Mike,It was a clean hit but the Commiss may still fine him and any player can hurt another between the lines. Hines is a hardnosed player that had a clean (legal) shit on Rivers - I got a "Jaw Jiggler" like that on kick off coverage once (didn't see it coming, thise are the worst kind of hits)
Rob (Wrigleyville)
What kind of stats would you expect out of Cutler tonight? How about Welker? Thanks!!
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:43 PM)
Rob,Would think Cutler would have a solid game (250 plus yards, 2 TD's) and Welker should be one of the best targets for Cassel (short clear out patterns when Moss is doubled)
Vic (Kailua, HI)
Hines is a hardnosed player that had a clean (legal) shit on Rivers. Can I quote you on that, Ken?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:45 PM)
O-K fella's it was a CLEAN "HIT" , let's move on -
Kathy (MD)
Hi Ken.. Can you help a lady out..14 team league and I have Favre, Schaub and Delhomme. Looking trade one of them for a receiver. Which one would you offer up?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:47 PM)
Kathy,WOW all three players are good but I might go with Schaub right now--
Vic (Kailua, HI)
Thoughts on Polamalu's statements last week?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:48 PM)
Vic,Troy is right but I don't think the Commiss is going to back off
Rob (Wrigleyville)
Is expecting 8 receptions for 60-70 yards too much for Welker? Thanks!
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:49 PM)
Broncos win on the road 24 , 23 !
fairbanks alaksa
who will take the nfc north? the vikes or the packs or bears??
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:51 PM)
Fairbanks, Should come down to week 16 when the Packers travel to Chicago- You mean your not throwing the the Lions in there??
Blake (Bowling Green, KY)
What is Laurence Maroney's status for tonight's game??
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:54 PM)
Blake, Not 100% sure but if he does play it will be limited time (I believe he is listed as questionable) ----
Rob (Wrigleyville)
Ken, I don't want to sound unappreciative or picky but you posted my question but didn't answer about Welker...only the outcome of the game...Thanks for your help!!
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:55 PM)
Rob,I would think Welker would get 8 to 10 catches close to 100 yards. Not much around the goal line - Broncos 24 , Pats 23
Kelly (AZ)
Pick me pick me! Hi Ken - What do you think about trading LT and Braylon for Lynch and Forte? My team has a major RB need, and I may be able to pull that deal off... unless you think I'm better off rotating Deuce and LenDale at RB2, PPR League (ick, I know). I'd still be totally fine at WR with Marques, Roddy, Calvin, and Muhsin. Thanks :)
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:58 PM)
Kelly, That's not a bad trade (to acquire Lynch @ Forte) but I still believe that Braylon Edwards will have some big games. If you need a back go get Lynch and Forte
Nate (Sudbury, MA)
Who do I sit next week? Dominic Rhodes against Tennessee or Colston against SD?
RD (PA)
Take a challenging question like one that involves Shanahan's backfield? Who do you expect to have more carries tonight? Young or Pittman? Would you be brave enough as to guess a number?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (6:00 PM)
RD, I would have to guess Young but he goes with who is hit that night. Young gets 15-18 carries
Kathy (MD)
Hi Ken...one more quick question. I was just offered Roy Williams for LT. I have both C. Johnson-titans and Portis. I really need a decent WR. Would u make the trade?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (6:01 PM)
Kathy, Take Roy if your set in the backfield-
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (6:01 PM)
Talk with you next week - Look for a great battle tonight !
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:03 PM)
What's up kids? Lawrence Maroney's on IR, Mike Nolan's getting fired, and we've got a fun game on tap for tonight. Let's talk.
Kyle (Tucson, AZ)
What teams from the AFC will make the playoffs?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:05 PM)
OK. Let's say...Bills, Ravens, Titans, Chargers, Jets, and Steelers. Latter two are Wild Card teams.
Kopy Pittsburgh, PA
Bill!!! what do you make of the fines the nfl has issued to Hines Ward. Do you think he'll get another one for his block on river's yesterday?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:07 PM)
Doubtful. It was a clean hit. Hurt, and it's against the spirit of the game, but it was a clean hit. If he gets suspended, it goes under the unnecessary roughness rule that Warren Sapp got enacted for his hit on Chad Clifton a few years back.
David (Amherst)
Laurence Maroney's season is over. The Boston Globe has reported that he was placed on the IR earlier today. What do you think that means for the Pats running game? Do you think Morris, Jordan, and Faulk can carry the load?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:08 PM)
They've been mediocre without him and will remain as such. Maroney remains one of the biggest enigmas in the game, but the bigger problem is the Patriots' inability to run the ball effectively with their offensive line. They need to go back and watch tapes from 2005 and 2006. I swear, they used to be able to do it!
Rob (Baltimore, MD)
Need to pick up a backup RB; Dunn, S.Morris?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:09 PM)
It's clear that Dunn's getting the bulk of the carries in Tampa. Crazy, but clear.
Riptide(Glenmoore, PA)
What do you make of the beast B Marshall chances of a big game tonight? Can Belicheat scheme him out of the game or are the Pats DBs too small too deal with him?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:11 PM)
I see what you did there! Belicheat! That's good. I think Marshall has a huge game, but the Broncos' pass blocking isn't as good as the Chargers'. Something like 140 and a score. Maybe two.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:13 PM)
They're a mediocre team masquerading as good because of a Ed Hochuli call. They're 18th in DVOA (http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/teameff), they have a +12 point differential. They're 8-8 or 9-7. I think you need ten wins or a division win to get in.
Mike (Atlanta)
Why do you not have the Broncos in the playoffs? What makes you believe they will not make it?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:14 PM)
Sorry, forgot the question. I think.
Gregg (pittsburgh)
I'm calling it tonight. BIG win for Patriots. They are due for one and I think they are looking make a run for the division title. Everybody is counting them out. Thye are still a good football team!!!
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:14 PM)
Gregg in Pittsburgh just spoiled it for everyone. Patriots are winning. Guess you don't have to watch anymore.
DJ (Myrtle Beach)
Bill... Although neither is a good replacement, with Reggie Bush out for 2-4, who's the handcuff you'd want between Pierre Thomas and Deuce? Thanks!
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:15 PM)
I think Thomas is the better player, but McAllister will get the bulk of the carries -- at least, until he gets hurt again. Thomas looked great last year when he was the last back standing, and it may very well end up being the same situation again. Also -- as usual, asking your question 17 times is a great way to make sure there's no way it'll get answered.
oKo, ma
what is going to be fun about tonights game? the pats are going to get smoked
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:17 PM)
A differing viewpoint!Interesting things about this game:1) Randy Moss vs. Champ Bailey2) Wes Welker vs. the rotting corpse of Dre Bly and/or a team that can't cover tight ends3) Whether Deltha O'Neal will take the fork out of his back and stab Brandon Marshall, Abdullah the Butcher-style, to stop him
Rob (PA)
Do you think Pittman gets a TD tonight?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:18 PM)
Yeah. Touchdown vulture.
Vic (Kailua, HI)
Is Jerry Jones as bad of an owner as Al Davis? They both seem to have similar tendencies, just one is a little more brash than the other.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:19 PM)
Jerry Jones now is like Al Davis, oh, 25-30 years ago. Crazy owner with sometimes-good ideas who's absolutely desperate to win. Now, Davis is just crazy and desperate to win.
Younger (Los Angeles, CA)
Do you think the Pats would be undefeated and dominant if Brady were not hurt? I think he is extremely valuable but I doubt that he could hide the problems they have on Defense. They are older and slower. Losing Samuels was also huge.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:21 PM)
No. I think they'd be better, but they've already given up 109 points in five games. That's nearly 22 points a game. Last year, they were allowing just over 17 points a game, and a lot of that was garbage time stuff. Losing Samuel hurt, but Belichick's always built his defense around replaceable corners and a great pass rush. Rush just hasn't been there this year.
Eddie Royal (Denver)
Hey Bill, do you think big numbers from B Marshall or does his success hurt my stats? Also, the Hines Ward thing--you dont think its helmet to helmet? How does he break Rivers' jaw otherwise?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:23 PM)
Well, technically, the hit was helmet to jaw.
Chad (Phoenix)
Bill, do you see Martz getting 49ers HC job after this year. I'm worried they will fear losing him and getting yet another OC, so will give him job just to make sure he stays.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:24 PM)
Singletary's getting the job. I'm guessing he goes .500 or so in a weak division the rest of the way and gets the job full-time. Martz isn't close to being a HC at this point; he just got fired by Detroit and San Francisco's been no great shakes.
RD (CO)
Why do you "experts" continue to put SD in the playoffs? They have done absolutely nothing to show that they belong.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:25 PM)
Except for put up a +30 point differential with their best player on nine toes, their second-best player out for the year, and their quarterback recovering from a massive knee injury. Parker will get better, Rivers and LT will get healthier, and oh -- there was that whole Hochuli deal.
Johnny (san fran)
Do you see Alex Smith getting a chance again with the 49ers or is the football just too big in his hands?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:26 PM)
Uhhhhhhhhhh.....I think Smith is gone. Maybe he's a little too awesome for San Francisco.
Mike (Atlanta)
Who are the top 5 QB in the league now?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:27 PM)
As in, right this very second with their current levels of health? Brees, Cutler, Warner, McNabb, Eli. Not necessarily in that order.
Tim (Detroit)
Biiillll!!! Whats up buddy? Who do you think will have a better game and how much better? Brandon Marshall or Randy Moss?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:27 PM)
Marshall. By about 70 yards.
Al Davis (CA)
Why am I crazy? My new coach is 1-1, Javon Walker had 75 yards and a score, Tommy Kelly had a sack, and Deangelo Hall had a pick. Money well spent. Now where did I put that damn projector.....
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:28 PM)
That's like 80 passes completed against DeAngelo Hall for that one pick. And Walker has like four catches on the year. And your new coach almost blew it. But hey, beyond that, you're doing swell.
Mike (SF)
What if we combined the best players from the Niners and the Raiders here in the Bay Area? Would we have a .500 team?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:29 PM)
I think having Asomugha and Clements as your corners would be one hell of a secondary, I can tell you that much.
chris
hey, is b marsh gonna have a huge night like projected...i'm tired of being let down
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:30 PM)
Are these two separate statements? Like, say, "Is Brandon Marshall going to have a huge night?" and then something like "I'm tired of being lonely and not getting girls to call back for second dates?" If it is, I'm afraid I can' help you too much, buddy.Marshall should have a huge game. Anything's possible, but he should.
Vic (Kailua, HI)
Al Davis, glad you feel you got your money's worth. Usually owners want more than 1 sack for $50 million.
Jon (Saint Peters, Mo)
Is eddie royal playing tonight and how will he do if playing.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:32 PM)
He practiced on Friday, so yeah. The makeup of his stat line? I dunno...something like 7-80.
Eddie Royal (Denver)
Bill, you're the bomb but you didn't answer the important question, the only one WRs care about--does Brandon's success affect my stats or can I hit 1000 yds. this year too?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:33 PM)
Sorry Eddie. Um...it's possible. I think it depends on how much Stokley eats into his action.
Brian (Denver)
Can champ bailey handle moss on his own or will denver need to double him?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:34 PM)
I think they will switch off and on. Whether they need to...I think Moss'll get open once or twice, but what are the odds of Cassel being able to find him?
Chris (NY)
Bill, you expect the Steelers to play the same press coverage on Burress this week? Clements really seemed to get in his head and physically take him out of the game yesterday...
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:36 PM)
I'd like to see them try it. The best thing to do with Burress is to throw off his timing with Manning -- otherwise, he kills people on the back-shoulder throws and slants.Bigger issue with the Giants these days is handling Steve Smith. He's awesome.
Kyle Orton (lost in the sauce)
What? No love for me in your top 5?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:36 PM)
If I was making a list of top five beer pong players...yeah.
mike: Oakland, CA
What value do you see Addai having right now? I'm in need of a WR....who should I try to target with Addai as trade bait?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:37 PM)
What's the first rule of fantasy football? Buy low, sell high. Are you selling high on Addai? Not at all. Keep him. Comb the waiver wire for a WR.
Joe (pittsburgh)
Bill, Why no Roethlisberger in your top 5..In my opinion, He is in the Top 3 in the NFL right now.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:38 PM)
Well, sure, you're also from Pittsburgh.
drew (TX)
Who gets fired first this year? Herm Edwards or the cable guy?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:39 PM)
Cable's around till the end of the year. Herm's gotta go. I love the guy, and he's gonna be a great college coach, but it's not working.
Willis (Baltimore)
Where do you see me going forward? Have I turned the corner?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:40 PM)
You'll be exactly the same guy you've been for four years now. People were saying that you turned the corner after the Patriots game last year and you rushed for 3.1 yards per carry the rest of the way.
Dan (Harrisburg, PA)
So then I assume the sell high/buy low theory with Addai would apply to LT too? Do you see him turning things around a bit? He seems to still get the touches...
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:41 PM)
Yeah. I mean...he can't be this bad for 16 games. At the very least, he should up his touchdowns some over the rest of the year. He's also got two games against Kansas City and one against Indy, and doesn't play a single above-average run defense the rest of the year.
Matt (Chicago, IL)
Come on, help those of us in man's leagues... what is the deal with Ben Watson? He was supposed to be a solid TE, but has been abysmal. Is tonight the night he returns to form, or do I give up and go with Robert Royal?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:42 PM)
Geez. I don't know if Watson's ever going to amount to much as a fantasy tight end but...Robert Royal isn't the answer, man.
Brian (Denver)
Am I crazy or do I just not understand why NE is favored over Denver? Where is this spread (NE -3) coming from?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:44 PM)
Pats are at home. In general, home field advantage is considered to be worth about three points on the line, so what the oddsmakers are saying is that basically, the Broncos are about as good as the Pats on a neutral field. There's also probably a lot of action on the line in a particular direction, although I'm not familiar with how the line's travelled this week.
David B (San Jose)
I've got Lloyd and Gage holding the bottom of my WR depth charts, but having solid backup players is one reason I'm 7-0 in my league. Should I drop one for Camarillo?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:45 PM)
You're just shuffling deck chairs when you do that. Really, none of those guys are so good that you shouldn't be willing to cut them based upon their matchups or the matchups of the top few guys on the waiver wire.
Dan (Harrisburg, PA)
What do you think of Greg Olsen? He seems to be picking it up lately - maybe a good rapport with Orton. I have he and Scheffler on a bye next week and don't want to hold 3 TEs. Do I cut one? Or trade maybe for a decent WR?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:46 PM)
Olson's looked really good. I'd keep him over Scheffler. If you can get a good WR for one of them, go for it.
Todd (Boston)
Please help. Will Kevin Smith eventually become a top 10 fantasy RB ?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:47 PM)
No. Unequivocally no.
Bob (L.A.)
How many times to you think Janikowski roofied himself last night celebrating his kick?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:48 PM)
"I won't forget this, Dad." "I will."
Rob (PA)
Randy Moss or Michael Pittman in my flex spot this evening? I am hoping for at least 8 out of the position. Would you agree that Pittman is the safer bet?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:50 PM)
That is a tough, tough question. I'd say Moss. Way too much of Pittman's value is tied up in his propensity for touchdowns and, while I think he'll get one, it's not impossible to think that he won't.
Greg SoCal
If the Pats lose tonight, do you think the Pats Will ever start Kevin O' Connell? Matt Cassel cant throw anything past 5 yards and I dont think he would be worse than Cassels been.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:51 PM)
If he would be better, Belichick would have given him the job over Cassel before now.
Vic (Kailua, HI)
Hypothetically, would Colt Brennan be a good fit as a Mike Martz QB?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:52 PM)
I think if Colt Brennan was going to be a good fit in any offensive scheme in the league, it would be as a Mike Martz QB. I don't think it would work, but it would be his best hope.
Jake (New York)
The Broncos have a very young and solid team. When do you see them winning their first Superbowl, and do you see them winning multiple Superbowls?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:52 PM)
I see them definitely winning their first Super Bowl in 1997, and it'll be a multiple, as they'll win again in 1998.
Pep (Wyoming)
bottom line on Champ vs. Moss is Denver's pressure up front...if they blitz and take away the check-downs Cassel can throw deep all he wants and it wont matter who's covering Moss because Cassel is so inaccurate downfield...focus on taking away the short stuff and get off the field on 3rd down and Denver should have it easy
Dan (Harrisburg, PA)
I'm up 23+ points going into tonight. I have Marshall, he has Moss. What are his percentage chances of catching me? .5%? 10%?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:53 PM)
10%.
Greg SoCal
So far Laurence Maroney has been a disappointment. He seems to always be hurt. What do you think the future holds for the former 1st round pick?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:55 PM)
Pain.OK, sorry, couldn't resist. I think Maroney's an injury-prone guy who has flashes of brilliance, but has totally lost his confidence in New England and is yet to improve enough as a pass blocker or receiver to muster significant playing time. I think the best-case scenario from here on out is that he has Tyrone Wheatley's career -- when you consider the first-round pedigree and Big Ten ties, it's not the worst comp.
Jack (Atlanta)
Would you trade Turner and Breaston for Cotchery and L.T.? Is L.T. even worth the gamble because of his toe injury and not playing like himself?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:56 PM)
Yes! Sell high, buy low! Turner still has to play Philly, Tampa, San Diego, and Minnesota. Minnesota's in Week 16, too, so he's going to lose some teams some championships.
Dan (Harrisburg, PA)
Do you enjoy doing these chats? I was lucky enough to have one of my questions answered in an earlier fantasy chat: Should I drop Maroney for Mewelde Moore? The guy said yes, and I made the move. Whew...Maroney is on the IR!
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:57 PM)
Oh yeah. Doing chats is great. You get to answer some questions and get called a homer for teams you have absolutely no emotional attachment to.I really like Mewelde Moore. He's a definite RB3 the rest of the way on fantasy teams.
Will (St. Louis, MO)
Through no fault of my own, I have T.O. and Roy Williams on the same fantasy team. What's your policy on having two stud WR at the same position? Personally, hate having to choose which one has the better game cuz it's usually the one on the bench that goes off.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:58 PM)
I don't think that Williams is a stud wide receiver with the Cowboys for, at the very least, three or four more weeks.
Mike (Chicago)
Huge Question for you...LT for Matt Forte, I'm giving up LT (also giving up ON)
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:59 PM)
That's the exact opposite of rule #1!!
Charles(miami)
Deuce to a Bush owner for Chambers in a PPR Flex? Also have Brown, Lynch, White, Ricky Williams, Isaac Bruce, Roy E. Williams, Cotchery and Welker. I need WR help, is Chambers it, or Can the Deuce bring more?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:59 PM)
Nope. Chambers isn't catching a touchdown pass every other reception the rest of the way.
mike (fremont, CA)
I'M TIED AS OF RIGHT NOW FOR THIS WEEK. BUT I HAVE RANDY MOSS TONITE AND MY OPPONENT HAS ELLIS HOBBS. IS IT POOSIBLE THAT I LOSE, OR IS THIS AN EASY WIN FOR ME?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:59 PM)
If it's not an IDP league, you're absolutely going to win!
Will (St. Louis, MO)
Welker just hit waivers in a PPR league. Should I drop Chambers, M. Harrison or Roy Williams to pick him up?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (7:00 PM)
Drop Roy. In a PPR league? Seriously? You need to stop playing with kids.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (7:00 PM)
I should point out that should say Drop Roy, and then "Welker a free agent? In a PPR league?"
Greg SoCal
Do Bill Belichick and Josh McDaniels have too much pride? The Pats keep trying to go 5 wide with Cassel and abandon the run game and it has not worked since the 2008 Playoffs. Cassel takes a beating as the line struggles to pick up the blitz. Will they ever go with an offense to better suite Cassel?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (7:01 PM)
That's the million dollar question. You would think they would've picked up on this by now, but they haven't. It's either hubris or a huge level of confidence in Cassel. Or both.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (7:02 PM)
I'm out -- thanks for the questions, everyone.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (7:02 PM)
Thanks Bill.. OK, lets get ready for a very interensting game, tonight.. Anybody think the Patriots are ripe for a big loss?
KW (Tempe, AZ)
Do you see Jay Cutler going crazy tonight? Throwing for three touchdowns and 350 yards?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (7:03 PM)
KW.. No, one thing BB is not going to do is allow Denver's best playmakers put up a lot of numbers against his defense.. He will take away Denver's most potent weapon and force the rest of the team to try and beat him.
Joe (Pittsburgh, PA)
Hello Doug, Good evening..We can now see how good the Steelers are right now with the next 4 or 5 games. How do you think it will trun out? They have NY,WASH,COLTS,CHARGERS next..
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (7:05 PM)
Joe, I can see the Steelers wining four of the next five (coincidentally they have four of those games at home)
Greg SoCal
Didnt think I would ever ask this in this decade but, Do you think the Buffalo Bills are a better team than the New England Patriots this year?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (7:06 PM)
Yes, I think they are better on defense as well as on special teams, plus they have a better QB.
Jordan (Buffalo, NY)
How bout' them Bills? If New England loses this game and Trent stays healthy, you can start stitching that AFC EAST title banner together for Buffalo.
L.T. (San Diego)
Will I be picking up my production this week?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (7:09 PM)
Good chance.. N.O. is 16th when it comes to stopping the run. Neutral field is not apt to be noisy so the Saints secondary will have to play soft to defend a deep threat by Chambers and Gates
John (iowa city)
Can you give me some advice on DEF the rest of the way? MINN, JAX, CAR, NE? Thanks.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (7:10 PM)
I like Carolina best and Jax next best on defense..
Greg SoCal
Obviously Deltha O' Neal is not the long term answer for the Pats at corner back. With corners like Ellis Hobbs (more of a nickle back) and converted Brandon Merriweather, do you see the Pats trading for an impact or elite Corner in the offseason?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (7:11 PM)
Unless they see a corner in this draft that they feel like they could get. BB is one of the best at targeting a collegiate prospect that can help him in his first year.
Dan (Harrisburg, PA)
Can you change your name to Doug instead of Bill?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:12 PM)
Sorry, Dan. This better?
Pam (South Carolina)
Welker or Royal, Morris or Faulk tonight?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:12 PM)
Welker and Faulk
Octavian (Albany, Ga.)
What is the deal with the ref in the LSU / South Carolina game making a tackle? It seems like he might have had a wager on the game.
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:13 PM)
Just heard about it.. I haven't seen it yet but am interested to see what happened.
Dan (Harrisburg, PA)
Fantastic, thank you!Now a question: When will my Lions get their first win? Think the Skins can overlook them like they did with the Rams? HA.
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:14 PM)
Yes.. The Skins will definately be favored but I still believe they are a bit of a paper lion and are ripe for a slide.
Ross (Seattle)
Any news if Scheffler is going to play tonight? If not, who has the bigger game at TE: Daniel Graham or Ben Watson for NE
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:16 PM)
I'd go with Watson.. When playing a backup QB always go with the release valve in the passing game (TE)..
Andrew (Weston, MA)
who do you like in tonights game? I think the only advantage is home field for the pats. Otherwise, its an even matchup in my opinion
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:17 PM)
I can see the Bronco's wining this one. It's weakness (Denver D vs NE O) against weakness and strength against strength (NE D vs Denver O).. Denver is more explosive and Cutler could go wild.
Pete C (Newark DE)
Whats the difference with the Rams under Leamen and Haslett? Is Haslett that much better?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:19 PM)
Haslett brings more discipline and believe it or not, players like playing for a coach that sets limits.. Plus the players respect him more.. That's have of the job of the head coach - get his players to play hard every down.
Brian (NW Indiana)
Every, and I mean every, "expert" is picking Denver to win tonight, so why are the Patriots still a 3 point favorite??
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:21 PM)
Las Vegas goes pretty much by statistics and odds.. "experts" go on what they "feel" like what is going to happen. Emotions often can cause us to leave logic behind.. There is a reason why Las Vegas makes a ton of money every Sunday..
Nick (Los Angeles)
What is your assessment of Matt Cassel?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:22 PM)
He lacks starting QB accuracy and presence.. He still only has about 1/2 of the playbook understood.. Limited ability to read coverages and go to the right guy. There is a reason he hasn't been a starter since high school, in spite of having great physical tools..
kevrolet denver co.
how much would a win for denver solidify a 1st place finish in the afc west ?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:23 PM)
It would be huge.. Both a statistical lead plus a huge emotional lift. Confidence would soar and that is huge in football.
carson allen tx
jay cutler will go big tonightcassel with choke late in the fourthbroncos win 28 to 24
Steve, LA
Hi DougI have Welker and a 10 pt. lead vs. Marshall tonight (PPR League). Who Wins? Thanks
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:25 PM)
Steve, I'm not a FF guy.. I don't know 10 pt. leads or PPR.. Welker will produce tonight and has a good chance to put the ball in the end zone as Denver will focus on keeping the lid on Moss.. However I see Denver wining the game, in the end.
Dan (Harrisburg, PA)
Brandon Marshall and Randy Moss projections for tonight? Doug's projections...not ESPN's.
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:26 PM)
I think the defenses of the respective teams will focus on stopping Marshall (BB is a master at taking away a team's most dangerous weapon) and Moss (look for Welker to see more balls thrown his way).. Relatively small numbers for both Marshall and Moss..
Chris (Saratoga Springs)
How can you be the #1 back up and not have "ALL" of the playbook understood? he's been in for 5 weeks are you telling me he gets paid to know only 1/8 of the playbook?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:29 PM)
Chris.. Unless you see live action in games that count (when the defenses are throwing EVERYTHING at you) a backup QB simply does not recognize schemes and understand how to attack them.. So offensive coordinators don't feed them as much of the playbook.. It's one thing to see plays in the playbook and in practice and another thing to actually do it in a game.
Dan (Harrisburg, PA)
To Steve, LA: I think you win. Welker is a PPR monster, and like Doug said, DEN will focus on shutting down Moss. I see 8-10 catches for Welker. So while Marshall may go off for a big play or two, I see their final point totals being similar. Not a 10 point swing to Marshall.
Joe ( Pittsburgh)
Hello Doug,Do you put Big ben in your Top 5? Mr Barnwell did not... He likes Brees, Cutler, Warner, McNabb, Eli
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:30 PM)
Yes, I'd replace Warner with Big Ben
Paul (Denver)
Plus, Cassel wasn't even the starter for USC.
James (Aliso VIejo, CA)
Enough with the FF stuff! I see the Broncos "D" dominating the line of scrimage and Shanahan forcing Billacheat to beat us with Cassel. I seriously do not believe that the Pats are good enough when Moss has only 20 receptions for only 300 yards. The only reason the Pats were as sussessful as they were last year is because Moss could get open and when he couldn't Welker and Stallworth picked up the difference. Now there is now Stallworth, no Brady and no running game to speak of. Plus they got rid of Asante Samuel for Deltha O'Neal....... please. The bottom line is this, no Brady, no playoffs, no video cameras, no championships!
Bart (Arizona)
Doug, you took Warner out of the top five? Fitz's is playing awesome, breaston is a nice surprise and Boldin is coming back. How do you justify that call?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:35 PM)
I think YOU justified it.. It's more of a matter of Fitz and Boldin making plays.. Warner is a good QB, make no mistake but he is helped by one of the best receiving corps in the league.
Jeff1481
Is Scheffler playing tonight?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:36 PM)
It's sounding like he is.. I haven't heard any different.
Chris (Saratoga Springs)
Fair enough on the playbook, so whats the deal with Anderson? I need a new Browns jersey for my trip to Cleveland when they play the Bronco's on Thursday night in a few weeks, I don't want to wear #3 if he's going to be holding a clipboard...
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:37 PM)
I'd buy a #10 jersey..
Greg SoCal
Hey James: and bottom line, No Elway, no Championship. We got 3 rings this decade, thats NE-3 Denver-2. Go Pats!!!
James (Boston)
How bad are Cutler and Marshall going to shred the Pats secondary tonight?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:38 PM)
I don't see huge numbers.. Just enough to win.. BB won't let Marshall and Cutler go wild..
Paul (Denver)
Hey Greg- bad point. No Brady or Belichick, no championships.
John Canada
I don't follow US College football but after the comment about the LSU ref incident I had to see it. Hilarious! Youtube has commentary, slow motion replay, it was a great open field hit! Not bad for a guy who hasn't played in 35 years. Hits better than most Lions
Mark (NYC)
I picked up Deuce and need a WR. Is asking for A. Johnson too much or should I ask for Cotchery or I. Bruce? The person I'm offering has R. Bush.
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:41 PM)
Not sure how much trade value Bush has since he has a torn medial meniscus and is apt to miss at least 3-4 weeks.
James (Aliso Viejo, CA)
Really, let's just see who wins another championship first, Denver with a young gun in J Cutler or the Pats with an old washed up Brady who may never return to form after this injury. My money is on the Broncos jack.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Didnt you just mention that you dont do Fantasy Football and yet people still send in FF questions?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:42 PM)
I know.. looking for more football questions..
Jorge (Puerto Rico).
Hi Doug. do you really consider Kerry Collins a QB 'managing the game'? All I see there a "place holder" until the D cracks down, which I expect to happen next Monday...
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:44 PM)
Really?? You think the D cracks down? Indy can sare a lot of defenses but I don't think the Titans are going to crack.. They are for real.. As far as Collins "managing the game" that is not, necessarily a bad thing. He is just avoiding making major mistakes and giving his play makers a chance to make plays.
Vic (Kailua, HI)
Your take on Polamalu's comments? Is he right? will the league back off on fining players, especially for legal hits?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:45 PM)
I agree with Troy.. But the commish will not back down.. It's all about keeping players on the field. Avoid injuries at all costs.
Ben (Cookeville, TN)
This is for everyone who was wondering whether or not Scheffler is going to play - Scheffler will NOT play tonight. The Broncos said they didn't want to take any chances because next week is their bye.
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:45 PM)
Thanks Ben..
Jon (Missouri)
Can the Broncos put together a super bowl run?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:46 PM)
No, Jon.. Not enough D in Denver.
drew(pataskala, oh
Broncos all the wayThere is no way the broncos could lose to the pats They have no offense with out brady and after getting rolled by the dolphins, they are still shaken up
Jon (Boston,MA)
Hey Doug, do you tend to think that randy Moss is beginning to show signs of what he is known to do, which is become unhappy and produce less for the team?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:47 PM)
He has always been a front runner. The next few weeks will be telling.. Is it all about his own stats? or doing whatever it takes to win?
Fred (LA)
I think letting Nolan go and moving Singletary into the Head Coaching spot is exactly what the 49ers need. The team made a mistake a few years back with Jim Mora Jr and they would not be smart to let another talented coach go. Your thoughts on Nolan's impending departure?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:48 PM)
I like Singletary but I'm just not sure he is ready to be a head coach. Generally I don't like making a change in mid-season.
Dylan (Columbia, SC)
Hey Doug, so far no team from the West Coast (including Arizona) has won on the East Coast, do you think the trend continues when Arizona flies out to visit the Panthers?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:50 PM)
Yes, the Panthers' defense is playing lights out (see Peppers) and Arizona has struggled when playing away from home.
Thurman (PA)
What do you think of Berrian the rest of the year? Good option on an average passing offense or legit?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:51 PM)
Good option.. Minn is still AP's team.
Vic (Kailua, HI)
Any word on LJ? With this new incident, will he be suspended? If so, how long?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:52 PM)
I think he will play in NY. Maybe a suspension later.
Anthony (Livingston)
Doug, coming off a disapointing loss to oakland yesterday, do you think the Jets will finally stop this conservative play calling? I saw Favre throw the ball over 15 yards and once it was picked. They have to understand that this is not Pennington's offense, they have Brett Favre, who has a legit cannon! What is going through their heads
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:53 PM)
I think he will take some shots downfield against KC but overall the Jets will work the ground game against the worst run defense in the NFL
Chuck Buffalo NY
Thoughts on Buffalo..even though we havent played any East teams yet?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:54 PM)
I like the Bills to win the division, but the next three weeks (MIA, NYJ,NE) will tell us a lot..
Jack (Atlanta)
Reports say Nolan might be fired tonight. Which coach do you see going next considering the Browns, Cowboys, Lions, and Chiefs are going downhill?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:55 PM)
I hate to see it happen but I think Crennel will be the next one out. Savage has been setting him up to fail all season (saying that they have all the talent in the world on that team)..
chris
what chances do you think the AZ Cardinals have on reaching the playoffs this year?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:56 PM)
I like their chances.. (who else could win the NFC West???)
James (boston)
chiefs herman edwards should be next i think
Michael(Seattle)
Doug, what's up with the Cowboys? And do you see Romo playing before the bye week?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:58 PM)
Yes, Wade can't afford another loss and will pull out all the stops (although TB and NYG could put his health in question in the next two weeks)..
Anthony WA
Next coach fired should be seahawks Defensive Coordinator
Chuck BUFFALO NY
Wouldnt you think Minnesota would be the next coaching change after Nolan? Instead of Cle.?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (8:00 PM)
He's another option.. But I could see RAC going first..
Mike (St. Louis)
Anyone want to show some love to the Rams who jumped from 4th to 2nd place in the NFC West Sunday. With Haslett as head coach and getting some toughness out of that defense do they have a legit shot at making the playoffs?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (8:01 PM)
Great story for the past two weeks but too little too late..
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (8:01 PM)
Out of time gang.. Thanks for the questions.. Interesting game tonight..
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:02 PM)
Good evening, everyone. Time to make the donuts and talk some Monday Night Football (and anything else on your mind!) Last week, all the games were close, and yesterday was Blowout Central. The Pats are looking for focus and direction and they need to keep up with the tough Bills, while the Broncos hope to get a bit of a gap going in their division. Let's go with your questions and comments!
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:02 PM)
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:02 PM)
And before we start, the reports are now coming out that Mike Nolan has officially been fired -- if so, best they do it now. That report that he'd be fired in a week -- well, that doesn't do anyone any good. Probably Singletary as the replacement.
Chris, San Diego
Ahh Doug, Wes Welker or Eddie Royal. I can't decide!
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:03 PM)
I think Royal. Pats will roll coverage to Marshall because they have to, and the Broncos are fast on defense with the underneath stuff if nothing else. Plus, you have to look for the shorter stuff with the Pats now. That's the factor with Cassel.
Daniel (Las Vegas)
Why has Nolan's defense underachieved so badly? Why do you think the need for a pass rush has never been addressed?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:05 PM)
Manny Lawson's injury really hurt, Daniel. They were never able to find a true dominant NT, which will kill you in a 3-4, hyrid or not. Clements is good but probably overpaid. Walt Harris had the career year but never followed up. I will say this, though -- P. Willis is amazing. Re: pass rush -- you have to fill in the blanks first. Nolan inherited a bankrupt roster.
Adam (Minnesota)
Is Eddie Royal playing this evening?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:05 PM)
Practiced Friday, expected to play.
Pittman AND Morris owner, NYC
Help, who do you think produces better tonight (this is a fantasy question dressed like a football question)
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:06 PM)
Pittman. Neither team has a run defense to write home about, but Denver has more in the passing game to make defenses back off.
Michael(Seattle)
Doug, is Lendale White the slowest running back in the league? And what's your take on Chris Johnson? Is he the real deal?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:07 PM)
I enjoyed Lendale's veer on that long TD run -- that thing was a miniseries. Love Chris Johnson. great multi-purpose back that you'll hear more and more about as the Titans separate themselves from the pack.
TJ (Fort Collins, Colorado)
Shanny just said Scheffler is out tonight.
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:08 PM)
Scheffler out, Stokely out.
Mickey (Chicago, IL)
What are the chances of ryan torain getting into tonights game? All I hear is how much Shanahan loves this guy, you thinking he may have any kind of impact tonight?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:08 PM)
Torain is out.
DRIV3R
hey Doug, how well will Morris do against Denvers defense?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:09 PM)
Pretty well, I think. The question is whether New England has enough in the air to precent Denver's aafeties from cheating up.
Morgan (St. Augustine, FL)
Do you think the Jaguars running game will become more effective throughout the rest of the season?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:10 PM)
Ooooh -- tough question. Hard to overcome those OL injuries, though Taylor and Pocket Hercules are great and the Jags know they have to run to win.
Eric (Colorado Springs, Co)
Is anything going to change in Cleveland soon?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:10 PM)
Maybe a new QB -- I think Romeo lasts the year, though that's just my opinion.
PJ (chicago)
is steve slaton good enough to trade straight up for marshawn lynch?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:11 PM)
PJ, I really like Slaton, but I'd wait and see as Buffalo's line comes together.
Jay (VT)
Hi Doug, do you envision Randy Moss getting frustrated and tanking it this year?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:11 PM)
I don't know about tanking it, but the coaches have to know that if there isn't that Randy Ratio, he has quit on teams before. Just the way it is. You want the good of Moss, that's the bad, Have to deal with both sides.
Michael Pittman (Denver)
How much is Ryan Torain going to cut into my production once he's healthy?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:12 PM)
When or if? Right now, that's the question. The coaches like him -- he's huge and propels forward but he's got to get on the field.
Joey
Hey Doug, do you think Ben Watson will do good tonight with Denver's poor defense?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:14 PM)
Joey, the Broncos are rated 31st in pass defense DVOA against TEs. It's a good bet.
Kevin(Tennessee)
How big of a role do you think Denver's Eddie Royal will play in tonights game?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:15 PM)
Kevin, I think Eddi Royal will play a big role as the Pats roll coverage to Brandon Marshall. And I will answer your question even if you DON'T ask 15 times.
Nick (Belmont, NC)
Jay Cutler is certainly a good QB, but his remarks about Philip Rivers seem to be unjustifiable. It seemed to be just a character slam against Rivers because of his enthusiasm toward the game. As spectators in general we seem quick to give reverence to players like Favre for playing "like its a game" and even more quick to judge the young players for openly having fun while playing.
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:15 PM)
Nick, I'm still trying to figure out his quote about John Elway.
Nic (San Jose)
Ryan Grant, tough schedule after bye, did we just see his peak?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:16 PM)
MIN and TEN next after the bye -- ouch. Not quite the same as picking on SEA and IND.
Chad (Detroit)
Any word on Scheffler...Should I play it safe and start D. Graham?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:16 PM)
Chad, Scheffler's out.
Dan (Wisconsin)
If the Patriots win do they have a reasonable chance at the Super Bowl.
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:18 PM)
Dan, I don't see it. If you hope to win the Super Bowl with an average quarterback, you must have an all-time defense or the kind of rushing attack that decimates oponents. The Patriots have neither. That team is build around the best QB in the game.
matt (ca)
do you you think wes welker is capable of 19 fantasy points tonite?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:18 PM)
He might be capable of 19 recepotions tonight -- each one for three yards!
Wade (Atlanta, GA)
Selvin Young inactive tonight
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:18 PM)
Yes indeed.
DRIV3R
if Matt Cassel takes the Pat to the playoffs, wat is the percentage of Brady starting next season?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:19 PM)
Eleventy billion percent.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Currently at .500 what can we expect from the Colts this season? They seem very fortunate to even be at .500 but that is the past. Are they going to challenge for a WC spot?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:20 PM)
Weirdest team in the NFL right now, Mike. Two amazing comebacks around some gawdawful play and the same problems that hit them in their Super Bowl year (bad run defense) The real concern has to be the running game right now. Really tough to say.
Matt (Berwick)
How do you see the AFC East shaping up, right now obviously the Bills are the front runner, but who do you think can maybe get a grasp on that second spot, and maybe clinch a wild card birth, because right now it just seems like Brett's still struggling with the new offense?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:21 PM)
I'm trying to drink the Miami Kool-aid because I really like what's going on down there, but in the end, I think the Pats will scrape enough together for a wild-card berth. The Bills are the stronger team and they will win the East.
DRIV3R
but are we seeing the end of Bradys era just like Bledsoe?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:22 PM)
I don't think so. Not at all. He's got an injury he can come back from, and he can do what he does with just about anyone at receiver.
Paul (San Jose, CA)
I'm excited about Singletary taking over in SF. What can we realistically expect long term?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:24 PM)
Short term - inspiration up the Wazoo. I really hope they mike him up every week. Long term -- they need to either have things work with Martz or find a guy Singletacry can work with. That team's on the turnaround, it just took too much time with Nolan, and he went down with his quarterback.
Jon (MN)
I have Westbrook and can trade straight up for LT. Which is the better running back the rest of the year? Thanks.
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:24 PM)
I'm gonna wince and say LT, just because Westbrook's been out. Otherwise, BW's your man.
John (Cali)
Rumor has it with Mike Holmgren building a house in the bay area he will be tempted to take the job as 49ers head coach?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:26 PM)
John, Holmgren's going to take a year off and decompress (after this season, he might take a decade off!) Then, I see him doing a GM thing like Parcells. Maybe coaching as well, but he really wants to buy the groceries again and I think the 49ers like their current personnel staff.
Joe Anchorage, Alaska
Im just ready for football beer and wings.
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:26 PM)
Amen, Joe. By the way, can you see Russia from your house?
Anthony (Monterey,CA
Does J.T O'Sullavin remain the starter for the 49ers?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:27 PM)
Yes, He's Martz's guy and that's Martz's offense. That is, unless he goes out around his 70th sack of the season -- which could happen in the 10th game.
Ron (patientdolphan)
How long do you think before the Fins are a contender?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:28 PM)
Probably not this year, but next for sure. I realy like what they're doing down there.
Eric (New Orleans, LA)
Hey Doug, help lend some professional perspectivce. Why is no one talking about COach Payton calling timeouts late at the half to force a punt with 2 seconds left on the clock and getting Bush injuried? I know he's going for the homerun, but the odds of Reggie or someone else getting hurt is much greater then him breaking one to the house.
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:29 PM)
EWric, I haven't watched that game yet, but Payton does have a tendency to outsmart himself at times. I say that as a big admirer of what he's done with that team, but sometimes you just want him to line 'em up and go at it.
Eric (New York)
Who's going to win tonight and why?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:29 PM)
Broncos by 3. Pats can't stop that passing attack. 27-24.
jon (milwaukee, WI)
How culpable is Ben Roethlisberger for the sacks that he takes? Is it a 50/50 split with the O-line? 60/40?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:31 PM)
Jon, I'd say it's 50-50. No quarterback in the league hangs on to the ball that long. Not even Matt Cassel! That leads to some amazing plays where he throws touchdowns with five guys hanging off him, but it also leads to some real painful Monday mornings, Im' sure.
Max (Tucson, AZ)
Doug, as a Broncos fan, I've been somewhat mad that they haven't really found their next franchise back (I don't think it's Selvin Young), and they haven't had one since Portis. But, Pittman has been good, and do you see him getting 1,000 yards this season
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:32 PM)
Max, I just don't believe they think that way. Haven't since they lost TD and kept rolling with the Gibbs blocking scheme. Would they be better with a TD or Portis? Without question. But uit's also true that they can make value decisions like trading Portis for Bailey because they have that system.
Anthony (Monterey,CA)
With Mike Singletary in will there be anymore fireings?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:33 PM)
Not sure, but get ready for excellent quotage. He's going rival Gruden for must-see sideline miked-up segments.
Tom B. (Foxboro, MA)
Should I pack in a career and hang with Giselle or is there anything I am looking forward to coming back to on both sides of the ball?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:33 PM)
Tom, you're still the best quarterback in the game. Relax, man...
Mike (San Jose)
Doug, you must not be watching 49ers games. Somtimes it seems JTO is willing to hold the ball in order to get sacked because he would rather have it than an incompletion. Being sacked as much as he is, it's him too not just the 0-line.
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:35 PM)
Mike, I think it's also a product if the Martz offense, where he'll throw a lot of four-wide and empty backfield out there. Just aren't as many blockers. Happened to Bulger and Kitna as well.
Fred (Los Angeles)
If I see one more coach "Ice the kicker", I'm going to fly to that city and smack that coach in the face.
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:35 PM)
Fred, save me a seat.
Aaron R. (Green Bay WI)
Am I in the top 10 quarterbacks in the NFL today?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:36 PM)
Yes, you are. But you also have a bunch of YAC monsters on your team and I hope you take Greg Jennings to dinner once a week.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Is Jay Cutler going to be a better QB than John Elway?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:37 PM)
No. Some of these questions are easy! :-)
Mike (San Jose)
Doug, is there any chance at all that the somebody like Bill Cowher would come to the west coast and be the 49ers next head coach? Would the right amount of money do it? We need the chin!!
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:38 PM)
Maybe. I don't think he wants a stake in the front office (at least I haven't heard so), though I have also heard that he'd like to stay close to his Carolina home. He's certainly the most appealing option for a number of teams no matter what he does.
jon (milwaukee, WI)
Who's the best 3-4 NT in the league, Hampton, jammal williams, wilfork, shaun rogers, or kelly gregg?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:39 PM)
I'd probably give it to Hampton. What you want out of your NT is a guy who doesn't get pushed around and he holds the point as well as anyone.
tom (dc)
should i drop ryan torain for either jamaal charles or kolby smith?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:39 PM)
Jamaal Charles -- me like.
Tim (Cleveland)
Will Romeo Crennel be back next year if the Browns keep this up? And what are the chances they turn it around? The defense looks sharp.
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:40 PM)
Shaun Rogers looks sharp. not sure about everything around him at times. The Browns overachieved a bit last year, and they have some moves to make. More front seven help to start.
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
IS Kerry Collins efficient enough, and more importantly is that Titans D tenatious enough to go to the superbowl?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:42 PM)
Steve, when you talk about teams with quarterbacks just good enough to win the Super Bowl because their defense is just ridiculous. you are talking about the Titans. In addition, they can run all over their opponents, and no matter how pass-happy this game gets, that's still a winning formula.
Drew (Chicago)
Time to drop Bobby Engram for a project back like Jamaal Charles? It seems like the last time Seneca or Charlie saw Engram was on the back of a milk carton.
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:42 PM)
Drew, I live in Seattle, and I've seen the milk cartons. Time to punt.
Steve (Baltimore)
What are the chances Portis finally gets the recognition he deserves and gets the MVP this year? He is carrying the 'Skins this year with a very average pass game.
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:44 PM)
Very possible, though I'm starting to worry about the workload, If you're familiar with the work we've done at FO re: the Curse of 370 with running backs -- well, Dr. Do'itch Big is on pace for 373.
Ian (New Britain)
So with the firing of the 49ers coach will Seattle's coach be fired also after this comming weekend if the Seahawks don't win?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:45 PM)
Not a chance.
Lucas (Garb)
Why doesn't Big Ben get more respect?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:45 PM)
Really? I think he's pretty highly regarded by most people.
Fred (Los Angeles)
Bigger surprise from beginning of year: Buffalo 5-1, Tennessee 6-0 or Cincinnati 0-7?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:46 PM)
Seattle 1-5.
Ben R (Pitt)
Give me some respect!!!!
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:46 PM)
Okay!!!
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Poor Denver - Cutler is hurt but how bad....we'll see
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:47 PM)
Sort of watching and chatting at the same time here -- looked like a wrist?
Brad (anna, oh)
Hey Doug, You think Cassel has what it takes to be a NFL starter?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:47 PM)
Maybe, but where? And how long will it take?
Fred (Los Angeles)
Seattle being that bad is bigger than Buffalo, or even Washington (which may be an even bigger shocker with Zorn at the helm in that division).
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:49 PM)
I really liked the Bills coming out of last year. They had something like a full third of their roster on IR but they never gave up. Trent Edwards has surprised me -- I used to think of him as a dink-and-dunk guy but he's got a live arm for those go routes to Evans. Certainly Zorn has exceeded expectations.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Jay Cutler has a 41-24 td/int ratio with 20 wins in 2 full seasons and half of this without a good D, john elway in his first 3 seasons had a 47-52 td/int ratio with 33w and a Defense... Give Cutler a defence, and he'd easily be better than Elway in his first 3 seasons. With the same ups and downs Elway had factored in Cutler will be the statisticly superior player. It took Elways whole career to win 2 superbowls, Cutler has his whole career, better stats, and a better D he could win more. It's easy to say Elway is better because he's had his whole career to look at, but to write off a question by calling it easy is unintellectual... and rather boring.
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:50 PM)
Brendan, Elway was the best quarterback in the NFL by his third year. taking marginal teams to Super Bowls. Cutler has great potential, but we're not just talking about stats and arm strength with greatness here.
jon (milwaukee, WI)
Do you think the Ravens will catch the steelers before the end of the year, considering they get the steelers at home and play an easier schedule the rest of the way?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:51 PM)
They could, Depends on Flacco and a weird run game, but that defense is scary.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Most of Elways career was under the conservative Dan Reeves....you have to factor that in
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:52 PM)
Indeed. And it's hard to win when you're at open and public war with your head coach.
Ric (Jersey)
Please help Doug, Ive watched people get there questions answered 3 times already today and I got 0 responses!! I send Santonio and Rhodes for Boldin? I have LT, J. Lewis, C. Johnson, and McGahee as my other backs and he has Addai. He also started 3-0 but lost the last 4 so I think he might bite. Whats your thoughts?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:52 PM)
I'm not 100 precent sure on Boldin just yet -- I'd probably hold there.
Tim
Do you think the Falcons will make the playoffs?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:54 PM)
I see them a bit like I see the Fins -- up-and-coming team in a division with two teams who will probably make the playffs over them. Boy, do I like Matt Ryan, though.
jon (milwaukee, WI)
Who would you rather have, Ware/Ellis; Woodley/Harrison; Johnson/Suggs; or Freeney/Mathis?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:54 PM)
Ware/Ellis.
Michael(Seattle)
Doug, why are the Dolphins not getting Ronnie B involved in the passing game?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:55 PM)
Because the Ravens have enough defensive talent to have their front seven stay at home against the Wildcat and make it work. You'll see it again.
Tim
Conservatly how many questions are you fielding?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:55 PM)
Eleventy billion.
Ron (Kalamazoo, MI)
Should I keep Ryan Torian until after the bye week next week or pick up Ahman (often injured) Green as a hand cuff to Steve Slaton?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:56 PM)
I'd take Green.
Larry (portland)
How far will the Broncos get with such a porous Defense?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:57 PM)
They need to shore up the defense and find a consistent rushing attack. They'll probably win their division (SD defense is playing pretty small without Merriman) but you have to knock heads at some point to win in the playoffs.
Jeremy
What do you think of grabbing Torry Holt on the cheap right now?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:58 PM)
Yeah, good call. I think Haslett will inspire that team, because Linehan has really lost them.
Jon (Mankato, MN)
who do you like to replace bush while he's out? mcgahee, l. white, or sammy morris? thanks
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:59 PM)
Sammy Morris. Probably the least boom-and-bust under the circumstances.
Pete (Minneapolis)
How long until Childress is relieved of his coaching duties?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:59 PM)
You have to wonder. Look at Nolan -- the team went past the quarterback he wanted and the next thing you know, he was gone.
Ron Finfan (Lauderdalebythesea)
Why is Bill B (NE Head Coach) sticking with Cassel when they could get someone out there like Donte Culpepper?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (9:00 PM)
They like cassel for their offense as a fit. Culpepper might improvise too much.
Tim (New Jersey)
How long before Jerry Jones take over HC duties @ Dallas?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (9:01 PM)
About five minutes. It's kind of that Steinbrenner situation -- he needs a personnel guy who isn't him. Parcells built that team.
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (9:02 PM)
That's it for me folks - take care and have fun with the Buzzmaster!
Buzzmaster (9:03 PM)
That's right, have fun with me. Or at my expense. Really, it's all the same. Hello, SportsNation.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Yes, Buzz, the man!
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Thanks Doug as usual
Andy (Philly)
Should I pack up my things in my office? by the way thats my stapler!
Buzzmaster (9:04 PM)
Yeaaaahhh, I'm going to need you to come in on Sunday, Andy.
Buzzmaster (9:05 PM)
And the Broncos just can't hold onto the ball tonight.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
That was interesting.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
That looked like a football follies video
Tim (New Jersey)
Hello Buzz! Who do you like tonight?
Buzzmaster (9:06 PM)
The punters. But you knew that.
Dan (Orlando, FL)
Too many guys trying to pick the ball up just fall on it
Peter (Burke, VA)
Possibly THE MOST ridiculous fumble play I've seen in a while. Wow. Speechless. This is painful to watch as a Broncos fan.
Buzzmaster (9:06 PM)
Matt Cassel hands off to Sammy Morris. ... As if fans in New England didn't feel bad enough today.
Dan (Orlando, FL)
Huge penalty
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
Sorry, no drinking games for me tonight. I've already been to the bowling alley. Although I did bowl a 247...
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
SO far we've had a Punt meter, penalty meter, maybe time for a Fumble-O-meter?
Tim (New Jersey)
B.B. buttered theBall!
CG (Waco)
A Fumblerusky? (I can't spell it)
Jay (NY)
I came for the Buzzmaster and will stay for the witty banter.
Buzzmaster (9:07 PM)
And the football. Don't forget the football.
Dan (Orlando, FL)
The pats need a td here.. have to make turnovers hurt
Buzzmaster (9:08 PM)
Wow, it's just one pass, but that wobbler kind of sums up the Cassel era, eh?
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
somewhere, a pats fan is longing for scott zolack.
KT(Harrisburg, PA)
WOW!!! Our D is finally stepping up...Glad to see it!!!
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
When will people remember that you should never throw to Champ Bailey's island.
Jon (Mankato, MN)
i don't know, as a vikes fan i had to watch kluwue act like he was on junior varsity missing a snap and then kicking at it like he was putting out a fire
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
Nice- pats keep getting close and settling for FGs. They are lucky Cutler is throwing with a bad hand and Shanny wont let him come out...
Jay (NY)
I bowled exactly a 247 when I was 10 years old next to a professional bowler. My dad told him that was my average. I would have remembered his reaction if I didn't go to college and lose brain cells.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Do you think Champ Bailey is the best cover corner over the last 10 years?
Buzzmaster (9:10 PM)
Maybe, although it seems like the short passing game has kind of negated the shut-down corner in general?
Dan (Orlando, FL)
Bailey was out of position there if cassel threw that a little sooner bailey wouldnt have a chance
robert (aurora, colorado)
That is the first pass at champ area in over three weeks!!
Tim (New Jersey)
Two turnover and only 6 points now that sad for a B.B. Team. I guess no running up the score tonight?
Daniel (Las Vegas)
Pats need fg's, I have gostkowski.. fg's is all we need and about 10 of em would be nice
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Has to be, he's a 97 in Madden. Only Asante Samuel is better at 99, but no one ever throws to Champ's side.
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
Bailey is over rated...the best cover corners dont play on terrible defenses...
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
i like jay cutler, but only because he kinda started a feud with philip rivers, and everything is always better when their a feud involved. I'd suggest rivers step it up a notch, and slap cutler with gloves after the next game and challenge him to a duel. a doo-el.
Vic (Kailua, HI)
Game temp is at 35 deg. Damn that's cold!!! I haven't even seen snow yet! (as I stare at a blue Hawaiian sky).
Roger
how do you watch the game thru the computer?
Buzzmaster (9:12 PM)
I'd move the computer out of the way. Much easier to see the television screen that way.
Deion Sanders (Atlanta)
Hey STeve that's not always the case.
Dan (Orlando, FL)
How is Denver going to turn the ball over this drive
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Ephraim, I'm under the impression that Philip River's large pie hole is the reason they have a feud...
Mike (Lexington, KY)
so whose job is it to wash Belicheck's nasty sweatshirt after each game?
Buzzmaster (9:13 PM)
At this rate, probably Cassel's.
Jon (Mankato, MN)
great cover corners can be on bad defenses because a smart quarterback would know to dominate the weaker links in the defense
Buzzmaster (9:14 PM)
So who would you rather have if you were coaching a team: Randy Moss or Champ Bailey?
Daniel (Las Vegas)
The Giants DB's were average at best last yr, a good pass rush is the best pass defense.. champ bailey isn't overrated cuz the broncos defense sucks
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
Its supposed to snow in Syracuse this week....sigh...
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Champ, defense wins championships... to quote the old mantra.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
I would take Moss...he should give you more opportunities to win games
CG (Waco)
I would take Champ first. Defense wins championships.
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
um...Randy Moss. He scores those things that people get excited about... What are they called? You know, people sometimes leap into the stands after they get them? Sometimes dance and do other things? Touchdowns? Is that it?
Vic (Kailua, HI)
There's no such thing as a shutdown corner anymore. The NFL did away with that position as soon as they instituted the "Illegal touching after 5 yards" rule.
Dan (Orlando, FL)
How many Broncos can Morris stiff-arm on one play
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
If I was coaching a team, I would choose Bailey hands down. He is a good player, just not as great as everyone says. Titans show ya, you can win with good defensive players and no names at WR..
Steiny (NYC)
Bailey. He is not a headache.
Ron (Kalamazoo, MI)
The sweatshirt is bad, but the head band is worse!
Buzzmaster (9:17 PM)
Considering Mike Nolan just got canned, job security for coaches seems to be the inverse of sideline fashion.
Nick (Newark, DE)
Well Bailey can perform on his own Moss needs somebody to throw him the ball where he can catch it
Vic (Kailua, HI)
defense wins championships. Offense gets you there.
Mario (Mimai, FL)
Bailey, Moss is uselees without Brady.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
This has been a strange game
Ron (Kalamazoo, MI)
Touchdowns win games, field goals lose them.
Buzzmaster (9:18 PM)
So that was a game-losing 57-yarder Janikowski hit yesterday?
Mike (Lexington, KY)
I think Moss is much less of headache than how he is portrayed...sure he has his moments but not many that really amount to much
Buzzmaster (9:19 PM)
Sammy Morris making like Joe Morris as the Pats move back into scoring position.
Dan (Orlando, FL)
They cant tackle Morris tonight
RonBo (Ft Laud FL)
Morris wasn't this good in Miami
Mike (Lexington, KY)
TD's or not the Patriots look pretty good tonight
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Does Boss Baily live in the shadow of his brother Champ?
Buzzmaster (9:19 PM)
And his cousin in Hazzard County.
Paul (Lorain, OH)
Where have you been Buzz? I was getting bored..
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
Can I buy some crack from the people who are saying Bailey?
Daniel (Las Vegas)
Teams are built from the lines going back.. if you have a good d and o line, everything else will look a whole lot better
Tim (New Jersey)
looks like the Pats have a running game, to bad the line can't pass protect!
Steiny (NYC)
Regarding Field Goals, no coach will ever try ice the kicker again after that Jet game yesterday.
Dan (Orlando, FL)
Cassel needs to learn to throw the ball away
Buzzmaster (9:20 PM)
Sacked there to push them out of FG range.
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
or his brother Beetle..
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
No, RonBo, he wasn't. But he was good last year with the Pats when he had 3 100 yard rushing games back to back, until he got hurt. (I believe they were back to back)
KT
WAY TO GO D!!! That's sack #3!!!
Steiny (NYC)
Morris already has 8 rushes for 66 yards.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
agreed Cassell has got to get rid of the ball instead of taking sacks
RonBo (Ft Laud FL)
Cassel needs to learn to throw period
Punt-O-Meter (Gillette Stadium)
Punt number 2!!
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
Steiny- same thing happened last year....against the Titans someone "iced" bironas, he missed, then he made the second one...coaches will keep trying it.
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
sure they will...that happened last year, hasn't stopped anyone this year. i even think it happened to lane kiffin to be exact.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Nope, 2 100 yard games back to back, my bad.
Tim (New Jersey)
Really the only thing about this game is neither team is impressive!
Buzzmaster (9:23 PM)
I don't know, a 6-0 lead for a team playing without a quarterback is kind of impressive.
Matt Cassell
Stop talking about me guys....
Dan (Orlando, FL)
I should switch my name to miss tackles on Morris meter
Randy Moss (New England)
I don't really feel like trying this year..
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
icing the kicker will never go away, like the pitcher doing the fake throw to third than turn around quick to first. it never ever works, but damnit you do it anyway.
Lojo (Casper, WY)
I'm glad madden rankings are being used as evidence now. Clears everything up. Madden is be all, end all for some people.
Daniel (Las Vegas)
Nice job taking a sack cassel, gostkowski was on a nice pace for my 10 fg's until you took him out of range.
Hamburgler Burke VA
Cassel is a HS QB playing in a man's league
Buzzmaster (9:24 PM)
What the heck? Was one of the Broncos wearing Zoobaz pants in warm-ups?
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
this game kinda sucks...
Mike (Lexington, KY)
I thought this game would be 21-14 by now...
Dan (Orlando, FL)
at least teh Pats ahvent turned the ball over and they did get 6 pts off of turnovers as opposed to nothing from turnovers
KT
Broncos have a QB with a broken finger...I'd say that makes it pretty even!
Matt Leinart
At least Cassel's a starting NFL qb, Im riding pine and he was my BACK UP at USC
Dan (Orlando, FL)
Cutler has all day to throw there
CG (Waco)
Pittman doesn't look so bad so far either. He's almost at 60 yards rushing alrady.
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
nice call by the refs---not....
Dan (Orlando, FL)
That is a ticky-tack call
Tim (New Jersey)
Offensive pass interference!
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Pittman is getting rocked every time he carries it
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
i'm honestly surprised belichek hasn't put out the call to testaverde or flutie.
Buzzmaster (9:26 PM)
Cutler comes up short on the third down scramble. We've settled into a nice punt routine.
Sean (Ft. Collins, CO)
That interference call on Marshall was terrible.
RonBo (Ft Laud FL)
I agree with KT as Cutler has the Romo Syndrome
Jason ( Devner )
The refs need to stop punishing Denver for the San Diego game
Punt-O-Meter (Gillette Stadium)
Punt number 3 coming up.
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
I CANT WAIT FOR NEXT WEEKS GAME...going to be a good one. Manning vs. Haynesworth...
Jessica Simpson (TX)
Is that Cutler guy single
Mario (Miami, FL)
I rather have Cutler with all his fingers broken than a healthy Cassel
Buzzmaster (9:28 PM)
So what's the consenus on the Patriots with Cassel? Is this still one of the teams to beat in the AFC?
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
Can we start rating punts on a 1-10 scale? I don't think net/gross yardage works for me anymore.
Dan (Orlando, FL)
Not unless Cassel learns to throw the ball away and not try to run with it or take the sack
michael (california)
no its the bills and the titans
Marcus (Indiana)
Patriots have an outside shot at the wildcard.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
No, Buzz, the Patriots aren't the team to beat in the AFC, it has to be the titans and bills.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Patriots 2nd WC spot at best...
Buzzmaster (9:30 PM)
It's Sammy Morris Night in Foxboro.
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
come on Moss I need a TD to win this week.
Dan (Orlando, FL)
Wow Morris again They cant tackle him
RonBo (Ft Laud FL)
Man this Morris Guy is Ripping them a new pie hole
Buzzmaster (9:31 PM)
He's ripping them a new mouth?
Paul (Lorain, OH)
Patriots are dominating on the ground.. how they aren't winning by more is beyond me.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
And I started Kevin Faulk in fantasy football, oh well, I still won my game....
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
Unless the Pats find an identity...which could be Morris...I dont see them getting a WC in the AFC
CG (Waco)
I believe the Pats are still going to the playoffs barely anyway.
Buzzmaster (9:32 PM)
Fourth and short inside the 10. Go for it or another FG?
Aaron(Alexandria, KY)
Horrible spot there.
Dan (Orlando, FL)
Id go for it here
Mike (Lexington, KY)
FG time again
Mario (Miami, FL)
Who is Laurence Maroney?
Marcus (Indiana)
FAKE THE FG!
CG (Waco)
No way he made that first down.
Paul (Lorain, OH)
Wow, great effort..
Hamburgler Burke VA
We play to win...THE GAME!
RonBo (Ft Laud FL)
If the Field Goal unit comes on I;m chaning the channel
Buzzmaster (9:33 PM)
Bets on Morris?
Buzzmaster (9:33 PM)
And TD Morris
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
We know they are running
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Blast Morriss up the middle
RonBo (Ft Laud FL)
MONSTER MORRIS
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Laurence is an IR nobody.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
I am really surprised by this score...I thought Denver would put up a better fight but it is still managable
Buzzmaster (9:34 PM)
Best Morris: Sammy, Joe, Bam ...
Steiny (NYC)
The guys at ESPN projected Morris to have 15 rushes for 82 yards and 1 TD. He already has 10 rushes for 102 yards.
Rob, New York
Morris for Super Bowl MVP 2009
Buzzmaster (9:35 PM)
He's done more in his career than Timmy Smith.
Daniel (Las Vegas)
NE should enjoy the running game they have against denver, i don't think this is what the pats running game will normally look like
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
can we downgrade him to larry maroney?
Zach
denver has to have the worst run d in the league
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Buzz, Mercury?
Buzzmaster (9:36 PM)
Good one
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
Joe, easy. and he wasn't a speck over 3' tall.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
well I would rather party with Bam Bam...:))
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
Man how bad does the AFC West look?
Paul (Lorain, OH)
Phillip Morris?
JD Grand,junction ,Co
Pat's suck is this a pat's only site or what??
Buzzmaster (9:36 PM)
Who is Pat?
Aaron(Alexandria, KY)
Jack is the best Morris.
Joe, Hawaii
Let's give credit to Morris, all you nay-sayers
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
but in the universal morris contest, i'd have to go with jack.
Buzzmaster (9:38 PM)
The University of Minnesota-Morris' teams are the Cougars.
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
Uh JD- the Pats and Broncos are playing right now and the Broncs are currently getting worked...so yeah i would suppose thats why we are talking about the pats...
Aaron(Alexandria, KY)
Denver should go no-huddle the rest of the game. It's the only offense that has been consistent all year.
Herm Edwards
I beg to differ Zsch.. I lay claim to being head coach of the worst rush D in the league, worst in many categories actually!
Joe (Houston, TX)
Denver should have 11 in the box with this team. Make Cassel complete a pass!
RonBo (Ft Laud FL)
Cutler will be coming out slinging now! We need some passing
Joe, MI
I predict 42-10 Pats tonight. This game will give them the confidence to rise to the top of AFC East
Buzzmaster (9:39 PM)
You pretty much lose the right to predict anything when we're halfway through the second quarter.
dan lebetard (miami, fla)
BAM!!! is the best morris.
RonBo (Ft Laud FL)
NE needs the Wild Cat offense to keep Morris going Morris the QB
Jay (NY)
Ummm Zack Morris? He did hook up with Kelly.
Marcus (Indiana)
We can talk about the Packers owning the Colts if you want.
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
Except Cutler is obviously hurt and wanted to come out but Shanny wont take him out...
Mike (Lexington, KY)
come on Denver make this a game before it gets ugly
Dan (Orlando, FL)
Come on Herm you have to say " YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME"
Jim, Providence
Every team has warts...really, is there any team in the NFL that anyone really fears?
Buzzmaster (9:41 PM)
The Browns don't have warts. They have staph.
Buzzmaster (9:41 PM)
Nothing doing for Cutler here. He really doesn't look right with that thumb.
CG (Waco)
I thought Hobbs was gonna pick that off.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Didn't Cutler wave off Ramsey? I think Cutler wants to play... badly.
Jay (NY)
I predict Buzz we say that Joe cannot predict anything when we're halfway through the second quarter.
Penalize Me, CO
with all these mistakes, I'm starting to think the Broncos need some detention
Aaron(Alexandria, KY)
Penalties 5-0 in favor of Denver. Is the anti-Hoculi working tonight's game?
Jay (NY)
Herm also says, I play to mismanage the clock.
Mario (Miami, FL)
Titans D!!! Everybody fears that!
Jay (NY)
So he'll be on the injured list with a thumb next week?
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Nice throw, nice catch.
RonBo (Ft Laud FL)
Bout time Cutler got one. Nobody to throw to. Eddy Royal!
Dan (Orlando, FL)
If hte Browns have Staph then the Bungles have to have MRSA
Buzzmaster (9:43 PM)
Someone went to medical school.
Paul (Lorain, OH)
Seriously Buzz, I dont like Kellen coming out and kind of starting this drama.. but something is seriousy wrong with the Browns facilities.. What is up with all the staph?
Mario (Miami, FL)
It's Eddie dude
Mike (Lexington, KY)
what the Bengals have is yet to be diagnosed...suffice it to say it is deadly
Blake (Westfield, MA)
Maybe it's an experiment with Biological warfare in football.
Mario (Miami, FL)
What's deadly is to have Fitzpatrick at QB
Buzzmaster (9:46 PM)
That was Cassel-esque from Cutler, but I guess it was third down anyway.
Dan (Orlando, FL)
Another turnover
Aaron(Alexandria, KY)
Horrible pass.
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
its the ghost of eric metcalf, haunting the browns with infectous diseases.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Nice punt.
Joe (Houston, TX)
Nice punt...
Bob (Casper, WY)
Another turnover...as good as a punt I guess.
Corey(Kiowa, Colorado)
Wow....Ramsey, start warmin up
Aaron(Alexandria, KY)
Royal wide open in the middle of the field.
Buzzmaster (9:47 PM)
Looks like Cutler may be done.
RonBo (Ft Laud FL)
how many turnovers does it take to replace a qb
Zach Rastall (Marinette, WI)
What's the total punt tally? That's why I watch MNF.
Buzzmaster (9:48 PM)
Cutler can't throw; Cassel can't throw it away. Good times in Foxboro tonight.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Come on Cassel, I hate the Pats, but this is just dangerous for his health.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
I think Palmer has been Bengalized at this point
Buzzmaster (9:48 PM)
Late hit? Troy Polamalu won't be happy ...
Joe (Houston, TX)
That's what you want to see if you're a Broncos fan...Trickery with Matt Cassel.
Mario (Miami, FL)
Cassel can't throw it anywhere!!!
Bob (Casper, WY)
Late hit??? Let's see that again.
Buzzmaster (9:48 PM)
Personal foul facemask gives the first down.
Buzzmaster (9:49 PM)
Yeah, sort of hard to argue that one.
Blake (Westfield, MA)
Wow...way to shoot yourself in the foot Denver...
Dan (Orlando, FL)
face mask wow Denver is giving this game away
Paul (Lorain, OH)
What are they doing NOT giving it to Sammy Morris at this point anyways...
Dan (Orlando, FL)
Horrible penalty on Denver
Mike (Lexington, KY)
At some point the Patriots Oline has to shoulder some of the blame...but at least throw it away
Aaron(Alexandria, KY)
Got to keep blitzing though. New England has no answer for that yet.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Mike, I was at that game and boy it was brutal. The bengals played hard, but the 2nd half was a major collapse. There were a lot of steelers fans there, as well. Looked like 40% !
Zach Rastall (Marinette, WI)
This NFL season is the most confusing that I've seen.
Buzzmaster (9:50 PM)
Clay Aiken with the catch.
Buzzmaster (9:50 PM)
Another personal foul on the Broncos. Wow.
Steiny (NYC)
Royal was not even that good at VT but he is a beast in the NFL.
Dan (Orlando, FL)
Another 15 yrd against Denver
Blake (Westfield, MA)
And they shoot themself in the foot again...
Daniel (Las Vegas)
We were due for a MNF game to go under the total.
Tim D.
Is this game fixed?
Buzzmaster (9:51 PM)
If by fixed you mean neutered. Then yes.
Blake (Westfield, MA)
I guess Denver wants to join Oakland in the stupid penality club for this week.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Brendan...I have sold my season tix the last 3 seasons...the steelers game is always fun at least for the shenanigans in the crowd
Dan (Orlando, FL)
bailey out with the most uncomfortable injury
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Champ Baily pulled the groin...
Paul (Lorain, OH)
What do you know.. former Brown commiting penalties!.. Some of his Cleveland lessons must still be with him.
Justin (Ohio)
Good line Buzz.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
So who thought this game would be 13-0 at the half?
RonBo (turnovertown)
Wow, I cannot believe the Broncos are losing
Joe (Houston, TX)
Is this a make-up preseason game we didn't hear about. Starters leaving. Denver with like 50 turnovers and stupid penalties.
Blake (Westfield, MA)
Not I Mike, but I don't mind at all.
Mario (Miami, FL)
Now Cassel's going to look like Tom Brady
Buzzmaster (9:54 PM)
He's going to play the next series on crutches?
Zach Rastall (Marinette, WI)
The Broncos are handing the game to the Pats on a silver platter!
Bob (Casper, WY)
Turnovers are killing them. That's the story of the last few games.
O.B. (Autryville, NC)
Is it me or the officals. Every game thus far has to many touch calls on the DB's, whats up with that?
Bob (Casper, WY)
Nice stand on 3rd down!
jake Vail
It feels fixed...but it feels like the Broncos are the ones fixing it
Buzzmaster (9:55 PM)
Come on, it's not fixed. We haven't even seen the umpire give either QB a forearm shiver yet.
ABKTerp
This game is fixed! There's no way the Broncos are really this bad.
Dan (Wisconsin)
But do the Broncos have comeback in them
CG (Waco)
Both running backs have outgained their quarterbacks so far. This game is a little strange.
Justin (Ohio)
Stuffy head, runny nose, sore throat, God-awful game=Bed Time.
Dan (Orlando, FL)
They are going for it again got to like that
Buzzmaster (9:56 PM)
Morris with another fourth down conversion.
Dan (Orlando, FL)
Morris not touched again
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
not unless he pulls a classic 'faceoff' maneuver. and i don't think he's real villinous like that. maybe he is, i don't know.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Morris is having a career half
Buzzmaster (9:57 PM)
Cassel to Moss, well, would you look at that.
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
this game needs a hook to get me into it, like a joe flacco or something.
Dan (Orlando, FL)
there is your TD for Moss
bird
Denver will pull it out in the second half
Blake (Westfield, MA)
I think Denver IS that bad...it's called being in a weak division.
Jacob (NC)
Wow does the NFC look so much better than the AFC this year. I mean look at the NFC East and South
Paul (Lorain, OH)
Now is that really that hard to throw the ball to Randy Moss??
Mike (Lexington, KY)
No Champ Bailey = Moss TD
shut-out, NE
42-10 is sounding about right, eh buzzmaster?!!
Aaron(Alexandria, KY)
Push off by Moss. Not called. Bad, bad call especially after that Marshall pass int. call.
RonBo (turnovertown)
Man is Morris really this good? 16 carries 138 yards in the first half, weh Broncos are sucking wind
Dan (Orlando, FL)
Morris has outgained Denver by himself
Jon (Mankato, MN)
thats why you want champ over moss cause moss was a non factor till champ got hurt
Dan (Los Angeles, CA)
Matt Cassel vs Ramsey, battle of who can turn the ball over less?
Dan (Wisconsin)
Cassel not as bad as you think, huh
Buzzmaster (9:59 PM)
Admittedly, it would be difficult for him to be.
Aaron(alexandria, KY)
Only good news is that Denver will still be in first tomorrow.
Jake (Vail, Co.)
Does Patrick Ramsay lead a comeback here?
Steiny (NYC)
A little NFL fact. The most penalties in one NFL game were 22. That happened 3 times, Brooklyn vs. Green Bay, Sept. 17, 1944, Chi. Bears vs. Philadelphia, Nov. 26, 1944 and San Francisco vs. Buffalo, Oct. 4, 1998.
Chris (Topsham, ME)
Throwing to randy is about as hard as throwing to brandon marshall.
Greg (Melbourne, Fl.)
Finally a long pass to Moss for a touchdown. Way to go Cassel
RonBo (turnovertown)
Lets follow the Ramsey comeback trail
Buzzmaster (10:00 PM)
I'm pretty sure that's what the Donner Party did.
Aaron(Alexandria, KY)
I'm a huge Broncos fan, but this tells me alot about Cutler that I don't like.
Mike (Far Rockaway, Ny)
I thought something like this would happen. Every Monday night game so far has had some twist to it. Who thought Ne would be blowing out Den at half? Who thought the Giants would get whooped by the Browns?
RonBo (turnovertown)
Where is Brian Griese when you need him?
Blake (Westfield, MA)
Stiney, you sure, because I swore Oakland had 22 by themself yesterday.
Buzzmaster (10:01 PM)
And now a personal foul on the Patriots. Rodney Harrison, big surprise.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Rodney living up to his rep.
NE England fan, VT
outrageous call by the ref. that was clean
Brett (Orem, UT)
Can someone please explain to me why Brandon Marshall got called for an offensive pass interference yet Randy Moss did not?
Buzzmaster (10:01 PM)
Hobbs nearly picks Ramsey.
Hines Ward(Pittsburgh)
Even I think Rodney Harrison is the dirtiest player in the league.
CG (Waco)
Man that should have been a pick 6 there.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Hobbs has stepped uo tonight..
Steiny (NYC)
Do you think if Farve had Cutler's injury he would be out of the game. No Way!!
Field Goal, CO
I think they will choke here and miss a field goal
Buzzmaster (10:03 PM)
Fumble or arm going forward?
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Hilarious
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
turnover 4
Dan (Orlando, FL)
Another turnover
Blake (Westfield, MA)
Well Turnover #4
CG (Waco)
Man when it rains it pours.
Blake (Westfield, MA)
Buzz, doesn't matter the ball never hit the ground.
Buzzmaster (10:04 PM)
Oh sure, point out the facts, why don't you. I don't believe in such things.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Cassell sacked again...lol
Dan (Wisconsin)
still noones thinking about a comeback.
Sack of Potatoes, CO
at least they've sacked cassel 5 times!!!
The Suits (Bristol, CT)
I haven't seen such a poor performance since Buzz in last year's ESPN flag football game.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
either way it is a TO
Buzzmaster (10:05 PM)
All right, 20-0 at half. We'll be back for the start of the third quarter and the ... exciting ... conclusion?
The Suits (Bristol, CT)
Happy Halftime!
Buzzmaster (10:19 PM)
And we're back
CG (Waco)
Gameplan for both teams in the second half, run, run, run.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
You think Big Bill said anything to Cassell about throwing the ball away and quit taking sacks?
Blake (Westfield, MA)
So how high will the score go? Can Denver score a TD, and will Buzz finally show some love for Matt Cassel? Find out in the second half of Monday Night Football!
Randy Minneapolis, MN
Is Cutler DEFINITELY out for the game? My wife is watching another show.
Buzzmaster (10:20 PM)
It's tough to imagine he'll be back, but I don't think you can say definitely.
Daniel: NY
I need 3 points out of Matt Prater. Come on!
Dan (Orlando, FL)
If I am down 20 pts its going to be throw throw throw
Buzzmaster (10:21 PM)
Now the Patriots are just pulling runners out of the stands to pick up first downs.
Ron (Shutdowndenver)
Randy, who wears the pants in MN?
Ed Hoculi(NYC)
Over under on the number of "make up" penalties called in the 2nd half against NE now that the game is out of hand?
Tom (Columbus, OH)
They said Cutler was warming up before the half started
Josh (Green Bay, WI)
I'm down by 15 now, i have Pittman and Welker... c'mon, those are give me points
Dan (Orlando, FL)
If I am the pats its going to be chew the clock chew the clock
Paul, Princeton NJ
If Denver keeps getting killed, Cutler stays out .. if Ramsey mounts a come back, they stay with him .. eithe way, no Cutler ..
Buzzmaster (10:23 PM)
Cassel takes another sack. One of the night's themes.
Matt (Dallas)
another sack... shocking.
Paul (Lorain, OH)
Sack-ums!
Punt-O-Meter (Gillette Stadium)
Only punt number 4.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
that sack was the line's or RB's fault...they got there too quick
Blake (Westfield, MA)
Wow, a punt...Haven't seen that in a while. So that is what it looks like.
J.P.
All these sacks and they are still winning...wow
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
that punt was a solid 8.5
Paul, Princeton NJ
I'm shocked they are bringing Cutler backin ..
Paul (Lorain, OH)
Wow, Cutler's a man.
Buzzmaster (10:25 PM)
He's 40?
Steve
is it true Cutler claims to have a stronger arm then Elway
Matt (Atlanta, GA)
Am I already better than both of these guys?
Dan (Orlando, FL)
at least Cassel hasnt turned the ball over
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Cutlers a man man
Aaron(Alexandria, KY)
Now it's time to mount the comeback Cutler. Prove you deserve to be in the conversation with Elway.
Paul, Princeton NJ
thats what he said .. and then when given an opportunity to recant, he said he stands by the comment
Buzzmaster (10:27 PM)
Cutler pitches to Pittman om his first play back.
Ron (letsgobroncos)
Cutler does not let a little finger pain keep him out!
Matt (Dallas)
YES! Cutler's back! Fantasy salvation!
David (GA)
I hope Mike Shannahan Called John Lynch at halftime and told him to show up to practice tommarrow
Blake (Westfield, MA)
And that's something new...a sack by NE
Mike (Lexington, KY)
this is a red dog blitz game
Buzzmaster (10:28 PM)
Are those like Blue Dog Democrats?
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Is Shannahan serious, run it on 3 and 14?
Zach Rastall (Marinette, WI)
Buzz, you're fired.
Jon(Boston, MA)
hahaha Cutler should never be compared to Elway
Matt (Dallas)
unlike our local quarterback, cutler plays football.
Buzzmaster (10:28 PM)
Big return but a flag ...
Punt-O-Meter (Gillette Stadium)
Punt number 5.
Bob (Brooklyn)
Wow. this is just sickening. i'm done with this game.
Buzzmaster (10:29 PM)
No flag, so the return stands. Good position for the Patriots.
Aaron(Alexandria, KY)
Unbelievable. That is terrible.
Jeff, Atlanta GA
Cutler must have had the pinkie shot up to hell with painkillers. He's lovin the high!
Mike (Lexington, KY)
I always love seeing the punter trying to make a tackle
Ron (letsgobroncos)
Of course no flag! Playing in NE!
Clinton (NJ)
Is Sammy the man going forward? Grabbed him off waivers last week...
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
clearly, they need to trick cutler into thinking everyone else is philip rivers. i suggest either the classic swinging pocket watch hypnosis trick, or mallet to the head.
Buzzmaster (10:31 PM)
How about a mullet to the head?
Dan (Orlando, FL)
best tackles by punters aare always the old aussie rules punters
Refs Suck!!
Does anyone really think these refs are not playing favorites? This is ridiculous!
Beantown, MA
I'm celebrating with Lobster tonight. I haven't seen Boston play this well since November 2007
willie (quitman, LA
is morris hurt??
Buzzmaster (10:32 PM)
Tirico just said knee injury, return questionable.
CG (Waco)
I wish I can grab Morris off the waivers but at least Melwede (sp?) Moore hooked me up yesterday.
Colt (Austin, TX), Matt S. (Athens, GA), Sam (Norman, OK)
Are we already better than both of these guys? Hmmm, Detroit, San Francisco, or Kansas City???
Lojo (Wyoming)
How was that picked up? It was obviously as straight block in the back. I think the patriots have moved past videotapes and now are just buying refs off.
Chris (NEW ZEALAND)
honestly how bad have the refs been? im not saying the broncos would be winning if they called it fair but im saying it would be a one score game. its a huge conspiracy against the broncos for that SD game!!!
Buzzmaster (10:32 PM)
TD No. 2 for Moss
injured, seoul
can you believe 3 injured RB on Patriots
Zach Rastall (Marinette, WI)
Barry Melrose for President! How could the economy be bad with his mullet?
jesse(jax , fl)
is cutler a big dud. everyone has been talking about him. but the could easily be at the bottom of the division with maybe one win if it wasn't for luck and bad calls.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Sammy Morris hurt, saw that coming from a mile away.
Ron (letsgobroncos)
i take it back Cassel can throw!
Buzzmaster (10:33 PM)
Well that wasn't exactly a laser out; it was WR screen.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Moss is great! that was too easy
CG (Waco)
That was some sorry tackling.
Dan (Orlando, FL)
TD Moss nice blocking
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Moss better relish this performance, it might not happen again all season.
Brent (Chicago)
I've never seen a team up by 27 look worse.
Zach Rastall (Marinette, WI)
Enought with the refs!
Karen, South Dakota
Well Denver is sucking air tonight!
John (Cloquet, MN)
Anybody else notice that Moss jumped into a guy dressed up like a Viking.
Justin (Denver)
The Denver D needs discipline, Two words MIKE DITKA.
John (St. Louis, MO)
I wonder why Bolen sticks with Shannahan. He was past his prime when number 7 retired. The Broncos need a face lift starting with the coach.
Dominic ( san antonio, texas)
wow. we ( broncos ) are playing very poorly. we could use a healthy bailey ( both) and cutler
Brian (Denver)
Ok Cutler, Marshall, Royal Pittman - keep our D off the field!!!!!!
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Good eye John!
Jake (Vail, Co)
The officiating would be better if they went playground rules and called their own
Julia, North Dakota
Denver is the mile high city, they're not sucking air. they're just sucking
Dougle
Stand by boys...yer about to witness the best comeback in Monday Night Football history
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
wait, what was the vikings kook doing there?
Paul (Lorain, OH)
Grown men should not use face paint.
Buzzmaster (10:37 PM)
But you're ok with the pigtails?
Buzzmaster (10:37 PM)
So what does tonight's result make you think about the AFC West? Chargers and Broncos both look bad this week, but someone has to win?
Steiny (NYC)
Denver has a lot to work on during their bye next week.
CG (Waco)
I bet you that Viking fan is a lawyer or a doctor. That WCW championship belt he had on ain't cheap.
Aaron(Alexandria, KY)
2 fumbles and a terrible kickoff return. If Shanahan has any guts, he'll cut Andre Hall tomorrow.
Knowshon (Athens, GA), Beanie (Columbus, OH), Javon (East Lansin
(Fingers Crossed) Please don't let me get drafted my New England, Please don't let me get drafted by New England...
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
i mean, i understand going to a game of teams you're not a fan of, and maybe you wear a vikings lid...but the face paint and helmet and everything? it's awkward if you ask me.
Blake (Westfield, MA)
Makes me think the same thing I always thought, Buzz...The West is a weak division. ALso I get to have some free jabs at my forend after he got some for Boston losing yesterday.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
I felt all along the Chargers would win the division but it may come down to the last week
JD, Parker
Denver is pathetic, Shanahan hasn't been able to hire a defensive coordinator EVER! This is like #4 in what, 4 years and we still rank near dead last in the league. We give a guy a career high for rusing in a game, in only the first 22 minutes of the game...good grief the Broncos SUCK!!!!!
Jake (Vail, Co)
8-8 wins the AFC West. Broncos just need four more...
Zach Rastall (Marinette, WI)
I have no clue what to make of this NFL season. The Super Bowl is up for grabs.
Aaron(Alexandria, KY)
The Broncos are fine. Tonight is about a backup running back fumbling the ball and the refs "picking up flags". Now worries from this Broncos fan. Plus, you knew this was coming after Tampa Bay Rays won last night.
Buzzmaster (10:40 PM)
Does that personal foul on the Patriots count as part of the apparent grand fix conspiracy?
Aaron(Alexandria, KY)
Makeup penalty #2. Only called at 27-0 and not when it counts. Wilfork should have been tossed.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Ellis Hobbs out, thats big.
Buzzmaster (10:41 PM)
Cutler picked
Dan (Orlando, FL)
Another Turnover
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Whoa Wilfork was trying to go all Kimbo Slice out there
Dan (Orlando, FL)
Its always the retailator that gets the flag
Andre H. (Denver, Co)
No, that's part of the plan.
dominic ( san antonio )
another int. too many turnovers
Aaron(alexandria, KY)
Forgot your a NE guy Buzz....apologies.
Buzzmaster (10:42 PM)
Only by residence. I'm just a fan of people not complaing about officiating every week in here.
Jeff, Atlanta GA
Titans vs Falcons in the Super Bowl... and the gamblers will jump out of buildings
Dan (Orlando, FL)
Kimbo reference= WEAK
Karen, South Dakota
This game is a mess.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Denver has imploded tonight
dominic ( san antonio)
wow. i had no clue there were so many bronco fan in kentucky. i used to live there and i couldnt find one
Chris (Mankato, MN)
Could Denver hand this game to NE, when Andre Hall fumbled on the first possesion the game was over. I am sorry NE is not good, but mad Denver looks like the worst team in the league. They are handing them the game, what a JOKE!
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Broncos seem to tackle each other more than the other team.
Remy (Boston, MA)
Sammy Morris Hurt? ARGH! I have Westbrook, Bush and Morris for fantasy RBs....
Cleveland, Ohio
My god bronco's offense is horrendous...4 turnovers in total! *3 fumbles and int. Either lets give credit to the Pats D or no credit to broncos offense
Aaron(Alexandria, KY)
So....you're watching the game. Officiating one sided or not?
Buzzmaster (10:45 PM)
6 for 63 and 3 for 45? That's not exactly Donaghy territory.
JD, Parker
That is 5 turnovers...not 4 and only one was legitimate for NE, the rest were "stupid" mistakes by the Bronco offense
Paul (Lorain, OH)
What did they do to the food in Foxboro? Everyone's getting hurt.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Not a Bronco fan....I'm anti anything Boston...:))
Paul, Princeton NJ
Moss couldnt do a thing against Bailey -- I dont care how many catches he ends up with a true great can do it against an all pro db ..
Blake (Westfield, MA)
Chris, I don't think any team can be worse than Detroit...But the Broncos are close.
Chris (Mankato, MN)
Well hopefully Denver can figure out something on the bye week. Their schedule isn't that tough, they could win the division at 9-7 or 10-6. We will see, I wish this game would just end, a mercy rule!!
Ron (NotForLong)
Not officating at all, Denver terrible
The Fans (Everywhere)
Buzz, You have to admit the refs have sucked this year. It's like they want to be the stars. We're not watching to see refs dominate football games and it's very frustrating as a fan when they do. Regardless of what side they choose, they seem to pick a side every week. Sorry for the complaining, but if they didn't deserve it, it wouldn't be there. Cutler broke his finger and was pounded into the turf long after he let go of the ball....no flag! Aren't you a bit frustrated with them this season?
Dan (Orlando, FL)
not one-sided too many dumb 15 yrd penalties on both teams
Randy Moss (Foxboro)
I was going to quit on the Pats after this game, but I should be good for the next few games after my two TD's tonight.
Mike (Phoenix, AZ)
Nice to see Cassel finally realized just who the heck Randy Moss is!!!
CG (Waco)
You've gotta be kidding me. 3 Broncos got juked at the same time.
Norm , Wa.
That's just the numbers called, what about the ones they never call? New England gets those every time they do a bubble screen with lineman 4-6 yards downfield. Don't even deny it!
Buzzmaster (10:48 PM)
And the Broncos get one back on the pick at the goal line.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
INT! GO BRONCOS.... I LIVE IN KENTUCKY!
John (Canada)
Yeah 5 turnovers, but I'm sure the refs had something to do with that. For the record, DO NOT LIKE PATS!That's a good throw by Cassel
Aaron(Alexandria, KY)
Let's see. Pass Int on Marshall on a 20 yard gain. No call on Moss for as much contact as Marshall. Flag picked up on a 44 yard punt return. 2 personal foul late hits on NE when it was 20-0 and 27-0. Yea, pretty evenly called.
Buzzmaster (10:50 PM)
You make it sound like those are incontrovertible facts! Isn't it just possible, just possible, that you aren't actually better at calling the game than the officials?
CG (Waco)
Co coaches even try to throw the challenge flag more than 3 feet?
John (Cloquet, MN)
I hate it when fans complaing about the officiating. LISTEN PEOPLE!!!! the players determine the outcome of the game. To say that a ref can determine the outcome of a game is just exposing how much you don't know about sports.
The Fans that are older than 13 (Everywhere)
Buzz, don't worry about the babies around here. The real fans know that crying every 3 seconds about the refs won't change anything.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
that INT was close
Kalispell, MT
That is a stupid challenge. Its Denver's ball.
Paul, Princeton NJ
it'll be overturned -- refs will rule in NE's favor again
Aaron(Alexandria, KY)
Odds on what happens with this review?
Nor (Notnewenglandfan)
Bout time they get one back, of course the Refs will look at it!
Mike (Lexington, KY)
it this is overturned the chat will blow up
Aaron(Alexandria, KY)
Buzz.....this year, I'm positive I'm better. Even the call FOR the Broncos against San Diego was a farce.
Evan (Daytona Beach,FL)
Im not a Denver fan by all means, i mean they beat my Falcons in the super bowl, but you cant help but feel sorry for them they seemed to be a come-out of no where team...
Referees (respect the flag)
Everyone looks at everything else but the real problem
Dan (Orlando, FL)
You could say the Refs changed the game if its a close game but not when its a blowout
CJ(Fairfax)
What a suprise!
John (St. Louis, MO)
Just prior to that interception I thought the Broncos were going for the record. Worst loss in MNF history (Seahawks over the Eagles in '02, 42-0).
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
John, then would you say that the Giants o-line was holding on Eli Manning's miraculous throw to david tyree, if it was called would it have changed the odds in favor of the Pats? Officiciating does matter. It wasn't called, the Giants kept there momentum and won the superbowl, off of a crazy catch and ridiculous holding.
CG (Waco)
Good call. He had no control of the ball.
Jake (Vail, Co)
It was the same with the refs a couple of weeks ago in New Orleans. Completely dominated the game. Determined the outcome. then made make up calls after it was too late...nothing Donaghy like at all huh? Watch a game with no rooting interest and just watch the officiating...
Lita (Alameda, CA)
The idea that NFL refs are somehow biased is silly. Bad calls just happen sometimes.
Brian, Oregon
Fellow Bronco fans - stop whining about the refs. The refs didn't take the ball out of the Broncos player's hands six times tonight. Let's focus on football not soap opera. What do we need to get better?
Eugene (San Diego, CA)
Another TD for the Patriots...
Taylor
i hate bad MNF games. i was kinda looking forward to this game.....until it started. hey look! another patriot touchdown!
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Cassell 3 TD's passing tonight...hmmm
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Matt Cassel is impressing tonight. Looks effective when throwing, but when he doesn't throw looks like a deer in the headlights when the pass rush comes...
Eugene (San Diego, CA)
Its amazing what second chances will do for you.
Blake (Westfield, MA)
Well looks like the Pats made 30 before Denver scored a TD.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
The Denver defense has been the question for them all year and now it is a reality....they're bad
John (Cloquet, MN)
Tyree still had to catch the ball, Burress still had to catch the winning touchdown. If Tyree or Burress drop those passes, the Pats are 19-0. All determined by the players.
Dan (Wisconsin)
The Broncos can still win it.
Buzzmaster (10:56 PM)
Ever the optimist.
Bill (Kalipell, MT
I would of bet money that Denver intercepted that one.
Jim (Baltimore)
As a Raiders fan and after what the Broncos did to us on opening Monday Night, I'm loving this game!
Brian, Oregon
If you're really Broncs fan, shut up about the refs. What I find strange is how much Denver has mirrored Dallas this year. Each week when one wins the other does, and vice versa. This week: both collapsing, both QBs with hand injuries.
Brad (Spokane,Washington)
As a Bronco fan, I am totally disgusted by the way the are playing. No excuses, they just are awful tonight on the national stage. I don't think that New England is that strong of a team but we sure are making them look that way.
Bob (Illinois)
Denver fans complaining about bad officiating is massively ironic.
John (Cloquet, MN)
The Broncos need Frank Reich at QB right about now.
Internet Whiner Guy (Everywhere)
Call the whambulance Buzz! NFL refs are fixing these games, I know it!
Eugene (San Diego, CA)
What a shocker this game has turned into. If someone would've told me this game would've been a blowout by the 3rd quarter, I wouldn't have been surprised, but the fact that its the Patriots doing the butt-kicking, just shows how unpredictable football can be.
Karen, South Dakota
One nice thing about tonight has been all the AC/DC music they have been playing.
Lee ...san antonio
Come On get a field goal or sumthing....show some life Broncos!!! have some pride!
Dan (Wisconsin)
I blame it on Joe the plumber.
Aaron(Alexandria, KY)
Another flag against NE when it's 34-0....even out those penalties.
Buzzmaster (11:00 PM)
Let me ask you, Aaron, do you really believe the officials favor teams intentionally or that they're just incompetent?
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Blame it on Joe Flacco.
Blake (Westfield, MA)
Dan, What about Joe Six Pack?
ESPN reporters
you guys should flip it to E:60 at 10. a bit more entertaing than another 15 minutes of this crap!
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
ACDC released a new album, hence the bombardment,
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Is there a mercy rule in the NFL?
Matt (Scottsdale, AZ)
Wow! How much money did I make when Coach Carroll started me over Matt. I think he might be better than me.
Blake (Westfield, MA)
Buzz, make sure we can ALL see the answer please.
Brian, Oregon
The Broncos did the same thing as Dallas. Got too full of themselves - especially the offense. Well, right now they're not that good. I hope they get shutout and end the streak. It will be good for them.
Dan (Wisconsin)
The refs are doing bad but the brocos are doing worse(its like a battle who can such more
Chris (Topsham, ME)
If I'm the broncos coaching staff I don't want cutler running around in game where you're down by 34.
Dan (Wisconsin)
Mercy would just make the Brocos look worse.
Buzzmaster (11:02 PM)
Doesn't look good for Rodney Harrison, didn't see the injury.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Jay Cutler is the dirtiest man in the league now, for making the dirtiest man in the league get hurt.
Greg (Melbourne, Fl.)
Rodneys out! Thats not good.
Aaron(Alexandria, KY)
Good question buzz. While I do have sour grapes tonight because of the way Denver is playing, I do think that officials do both of what you are asking. Whether on purpose or not, I think they both favor particular teams and are incompetent at times. It is a 34-0 game, but 3 TDs were the direct result of an officiating "decision". The INT review, the "picked up flag" on the punt return, and the drive directly after the Brandon Marshall pass interfernce that even Kornheiser thought wasn't. Not saying Denver would've have scored(cuz they haven't) but my KY match makes it a 13-0 game right now.
Buzzmaster (11:04 PM)
Anyone else have a take?
Ron (Floridalivinglarge)
The upside is the AC-DC music
Karen, South Dakota
Yes, I'm waiting on my Black Ice CD to come in the mail, I preordered it. Wish I could see them on their tour.
Tim D. (N/A)
Guys, come on, I couldn't even swing a BASKETBALL game THIRTY-FOUR points!
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Harrison brings the kind of attitude I would love to see the Bengals adopt...tough as nails and makes players pay
Ron (Floridalivinglarge)
Yea, Broncos are playing poorly, nothing else
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Mike, they have that attitude, it just results in jail time and suspensions so they never get a chance to get it on the field.
Buzzmaster (11:06 PM)
TD Broncos to Daniel Graham
Dan (Wisconsin)
This is the reason they have cheerleaders.
Joe
Wow ACDC. It's all about Family Force Five, guys
Norm, Wa
Although I do agree in part with Aaron, I just think they are incompetent all over the NFL! It's a pretty sad year for officiating.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
touche Brendan
Dan (Orlando, FL)
there goes the shutout
Ryan (Louisville, KY)
Champions win.Losers complain about the officials. The Broncos just didn't show up for this game. No officiating can put up 34 points on the board and hold you to 0. The Broncos will hold themselves accountable so why can't the fans?
Jake (Vail, Co.)
My girlfriend who doesn't understand or watch football and is currently finishing up her PHD watched the N.O.-Minny game with me and asked why it seemed like the refs were against the Saints.
Buzzmaster (11:08 PM)
Which certainly couldn't in any way involve transference from your reaction ...
Joe
I'm a Broncos fan and I'm willing to admit that they've been inconsitant
Aaron(Alexandria, KY)
Ryan - not that you aren't right, but the players have to not blame the refs or they'll lose part of their game check.
Dan (Wisconsin)
Has there ever been a year with good officiating?
Patrick (Richmond, VA)
Officiating is not very good, but not affecting who is the winner/loser in this onslaught.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
We need some snow
Blake (Westfield, MA)
Could it be, an actual Denver TD?! Well holy hell, took them long enough. At least now it LOOKS like they put up a fight.
Bob (Illinois)
As Denver fans pointed out after week 2, they had plenty of chances to stop them after the "bad" calls.
Aaron(Alexandria, KY)
One example of each:Officials do favor New England.Official was incompetent in the Denver/San Diego game. Incompetent in the "coin toss" game at Detroit years ago is another good example.
Buzzmaster (11:10 PM)
And yet there are plenty of Chargers fans who think that was the officials favoring the Broncos.
Tim (Burlington VT)
Hope Rodney is not hurt. We need his leadership
Jake (Vail, Co)
It's not fans complaining about officiating against their teams guys...it's a leaguewide problem. whether it's incompetence or something far worse, refs are determining the outcomes of football games...Geez. A ref even admitted as much after Denver SD. I'm saying that this is a problem and it's ruining the product.
wade p. (buffet line)
i eat because i am unhappy.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Ryan, the Pats weren't complaining about the officials when the infamous tuck play happened, it's all about perspective - if you win you're going to have the so what attitude, it you lose you look for reasons why, and the officiating is accounted for...
Leif (La Jolla, CA)
That's an interesting point about the Broncos imitating the Cowboys. Wouldn't it be weird if they lost 34-14 (same score as the Cowboys-Rams game)?
Max, Miami, FL
Where did all the GOOD NFL teams go? Oh, I'll tell. DOWN THE DRAIN.
Eugene (San Diego, CA)
Comments like Jake's always baffle me. If someone doesn't understand football, their opinion doesn't have more credibility, it has less.
John (Cloquet, MN)
I love those Geico Caveman commercials.
Greg (Maryland)
Why doesn't the league fine Bill Belichek for the way he dresses at games...he looks like a guy that stands at a traffic light near a mall looking for work?
BeaverBoy (Corvallis, OR)
Is Moss done for the night? I sure hope so, 1 more catch and I lose my fantasy week.
Greg (Melbourne, Fl.)
The refs don't always get the angles we see. They make thier best call regardless. Its up to coaches and the instant replays to get that call changed.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Nice change of pace John for Cloquet.
Buzzmaster (11:13 PM)
He forgot to signal the band leader.
Griffin (Downers Grove, IL)
Why didn't Denver fire Shanahan five years ago? He's clearly not qualified to coach in the NFL.
Matt Cassel (Boston, MA)
How do you like me now!
Buzzmaster (11:14 PM)
Do you like apples?
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Denver has employed the Swiss Cheese defense.
Aaron(Alexandria, KY)
That is a good question about Bell B. Why is the league so concerned about player's socks and towels, but coaches can do pretty much what they want(unless it's wear a suit). And at 34-7 and you're running the no huddle. Classic Patriot football.
Brian (Roanoke, VA)
BB is trying to blend with the NE fan base
Geoff, NY
I'm a pats fan and its sad to see Rodney probably end his career in the fourth quarter after the game was over. But will anybody besides pats fans feel sorry for the man who has been a known rules abuser and HGH user?
brian (Denver)
While we would not be winning this game if the calls were better - tonight we have seen again bad ref calls. It all adds up. Too bad for fans and the NFL generally. I know we stole the Hochuli game (or we were given the game) but its frustrating - week in week out there are ref issues and the NFL sits on its throne, silent. They need to address this. But wow my Denver D sucks.
Karen, South Dakota
You people are so funny! I love the dry 1-liners some of you are tossing up.
Aaron(Alexandria, KY)
Full disclosure..............I hate the Patriots in case you couldn't tell. But I think I'm with everyone outside the 617 area code on that.
Lee ...san antonio
BB...is classless....just pound the rock....Like always trying to run up the score!!
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Brian, maybe New England's fan base is trying to look like Bill B?... wait, what am i talking about, you're right!
KJ (Boston, MA)
You're right, winning is classic Patriot football.
Punt-O-Meter (Gillette Stadium)
Punt number 6.
Eugene (San Diego, CA)
What's your opinion on Sammy Morris Buzz? With all the questions surrounding Lawrence Maroney, are we looking at the Patriots next potential franchise feature back?
Buzzmaster (11:17 PM)
In short, no. But in terms of at least some degree of fantasy use, we'll have to wait for more info on the knee.
Brian (Roanoke, VA)
In Bill and Matt We Trust?! Eh, just doesn't have the same ring and Brady and Bill.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Someone give this punt o meter a job.
Greg (Maryland)
I take back my comment that he looks like a guy looking for work...he looks like a elderly lady with a sweatband sweating to the oldies with Richard Simons
Chris (Topsham, ME)
I think its funny that people insult belichick's fashion, as if that actually matters in football.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
OK the refs may have missed a few calls....lets move on
John (Atlanta)
Belichick does all this stuff to mess with his detractors and the media. He has a weird sense of humore I think.
John (Atlanta)
So are Patriot fans on or off the bandwagon right now?
brian (Denver)
Karen, most of the one liners are stolen from national sports radio/tv shows. Sorry to burst your bubble.
Jackson (illinois)
ya blame a coach for running his offense...and when cassel executes the no-huddle properly next time he uses it I'm sure you'll cry about it being cheap he let his player get more practice
CG (Waco)
The two most overused words on this website: overrated and classless.
John (Cloquet, MN)
Anybody else tired of those 0% APR Toyota commercials? I want to blow my brains out everytime I hear their jingle.
Buzzmaster (11:21 PM)
I'm just impressed people are still buying cars.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
John, on, but when the bandwagon breaks down again, expect a forecast of Fairweather.
Aaron(Alexandria, KY)
The Patriot and Red Sox fans have now jumped to the Celtic bandwagon John.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Belicheck is so punk rock with his attitude
Paul (Lorain, OH)
Oh man, another ref following the rules! Let's complain about him throwing the flag!
Brian (Roanoke, VA)
I never got off, I got worried, I watched every painful second last week, but I never bailed on my team. I figured they'd come out looking to make a statement after last week, just didn't expect it to be this big
JB (Medway MA)
WHy is it everyone can say that the dophins putting up 38 on the pats is dominant, but thirty four is running up the score? people are biased
Ron (Floridalivinglarge)
Suprise, BB is really the lead singer for AC/DC
brian (Denver)
Chop block - is it only us.... based on an undeserved reputation? Everyone blocks like that during a game, but they watch for us. I guess I', a homer on this one....
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
8% of Americans have diabetes??? What? How is this happening?
KG (california)
Whats with the haters from KY? not much to root for there?
Buzzmaster (11:25 PM)
You know the game is over when even the Punt-O-Meter has called it a night.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
KG, not much to root for in California either though is there?
Mike (Lexington, KY)
KY haters...now thats funny
Randy Columbus,Ohio
Thanks Pats, My Streak for cash is OVER!!
Joe (Novato, CA)
These comments about the refs would make as much sense if any random noun replaced "ref" "official" or what-have-you.
Buzzmaster (11:26 PM)
Avocado?
George (Houston )
AT least the refs in this game aren't trying to tackle the players like in the LSU vs. SOuth Carolina game
Tampa
Surprisingly I have never heard anyone after a game say, "You know, the officiating was excellent tonight. Good job refs!" It's something you only notice when the inevitable bad call happens.
Jake (Vail, Co)
The only statements made tonight is by the Broncos D and the refs on a few questionable calls...oh yeah..and Andre Hall..nice game kid, sorry. no room on the charter
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
The refs are probably behind the 8% of americans having diabetes number as well....
Gary (Denver)
This will be a 7-9 season for the Broncos.
Dennis (Green )
The refs are who we thought they were and we let them off the hook
Andrew (Bolingbrook, IL)
We all know the only reason Moss gets 2 td's is because Champ Bailey has a groin injury and is out of the game.
Ron (AC/DCfan)
Man, Are you sure this guy isn/t Morris wearing another number?
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Since this is out of hand who you like to make the BCS NC game....Texas, Bama, USC, Florida, PSU (among others)?
Buzzmaster (11:28 PM)
Utah vs. Ball State!
Brian (Roanoke, VA)
In order to fix a D that bad, you need more than Champ Baily and DJ Williams. Sorry Mike, probably not gonna happen this decade
Bill B. (Foxborough, MA)
Stick to the basics, Matt, stick to the basics. Challenge me, and I will bury you, I know about your Free Agent offers from the Browns.
CG (Waco)
Being a ref is a thankless job. You can be perfect and no one would notice but make a bad call you're supposedly taking bribes. The NFL do need to hire them full time though.
Mora (n.o.)
Playoffs?
Dan (Orlando, FL)
That would be a great game Buzz I really do think so
Jake (Vail, Co)
interestingly, both these teams let John Lynch go...with Harrison down, seems like both could definitely use him this year...
Jesse, Tampa
If there is anything I have learned, it's that Cassel can take a hit.
Buzzmaster (11:30 PM)
This is looking like the Chiefs yesterday. Green-Ellis walks in for a TD.
JT, Sioux Falls, SD
We are embarrassing ourselves enough tonight... Don't think the pats need anymore help from the officials.. Good game Andre Hall. Hope to see that you have been cut tomorrow. Go back to the semis!
Mike Shannahan (Denver, CO)
AH!!! WE SUCK AGAIN!!!
Ron (AC/DCfan)
Stick a fork in the Broncos, they are done!
Buzzmaster (11:31 PM)
41-7
Jesse, Tampa
Favorite quote of the night -"And they're the division leader in the west?"
Joe
Yay Green-Ellis! Who's that?
Al Davis
That's why I fired you Shannahan
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Those Minutemen are going to run out of ammo at this pace.
CG (Waco)
After watching this game I still think that Denver will win the divison but like someone said earlier tonight, it won't be decided until the last game of the season.
Lee ...san antonio
Some things were shown tonight.....Cutler (overrated)...Cassel (Can Play)...Denver D (Champ SLow And Old)....BB...(Looks like he is standing in a soup line)
Lane Kiffin
Shut up davis
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Soup Line....LOL
jm (fla)
denver was a pretender b4 tonight, dont read too much into this win
Brandt, Kansas City
Haha, the Broncos... They get beat by us (the Chiefs) and then to a struggling Pats team. I couldnt be happier
Joe
Are the Titans the only consistent team in the AFC?
Buzzmaster (11:36 PM)
Steelers and Bills haven't been perfect, but they've been consistent overall.
R. Godell(NYC)
This is why I love my league. Last week, NE looks like the worst team in the league, this week I make them look like the best team and I have millions of fans talking about "how could that happen". Keep buying my tickets you lemmings.
Pats Haters (Everywhere)
Wehhhhhhhh! The refs!Wehhhhhhhh! Running up the score!Wehhhhhhhh! Bill Belichick looks homeless!I really thought this game would shut people up who said the Pats are dead. Guess not.
Joe
Come on Pittman Two...more...yards...
Lee ...san antonio
Plus over 250 yard rushing for NE....Sammy was a beast tonight!!
Jack (Ohio)
The Bengals are consistent. Well consistently bad. 0-10 here we come.
al davis (fla)
steelers injuries at rb have hurt...hope trent edwards stays healthy in buf
Mike (NYC)
I think people have short term memories. This Pats team looks just like the Pats teams of 01-06. They lose games they should win to Miami, they lose a coin flip or two, but they're still going to finish 10-6 and win the division.BTW, you guys are so right about Randy Moss deserving no credit for his performance tonight because he didn't do it against Champ Bailey. Wait a minute...
CG (Waco)
Colts vs Titans next week should be better. I think the Colts will win by 3.
Buzzmaster (11:40 PM)
We can only hope. All right, that'll do it for tonight. See you next week!
