Brendan Roberts (11:03 AM)
Hello, everyone! That's right, my name is NOT Christopher Harris ... I'm pinch-hitting for him this morning.
Brendan Roberts (11:03 AM)
So let's get to your questions.
Jon (KC)
"Big Roto" question (I know...it comes out tomorrow :)): Kevin Curtis or Josh Morgan? Thanks Mr. Harris.
Brendan Roberts (11:04 AM)
I ain't Big Roto (but I am big!), but I'd have to say Curtis going forward. He's close to returning, and a sneak peak at his stats last year reveal how good he could be.
Bryce (Charleston, SC)
What's up Chris? Hey, Am I wasting a spot on my roster with Hasselbeck? I'm a Romo owner but have Trent Edwards for the time being? Any real reason to keep this guy? I feel like we're just prolonging the inevitable (IR) for this guy.
Brendan Roberts (11:06 AM)
Hi, Bryce. Not sure he's headed to IR -- probably not -- but honestly, I can't give you one reason to keep Hasselbeck. He's hurt, still has a suspect receiving corps/offense, hasn't done anything this year ... if roster concerns warrant it, I think it's safe to cut him. His value isn't anything more than many of the guys on the waiver wire. For what it's worth, I've done the same in two leagues.
Matt (DC)
NE D is projected to be better 2night than Denver D, but Marshall is projected #1 overall, can u clarify a bit?
Brendan Roberts (11:08 AM)
Just means Marshall will catch a lot of the balls that Denver will complete. Hey, even great defensive performances have completions, yards and even points allowed. And really, do the Broncs have anybody but Marshall? Yes, but not much.
Dan (Boston)
Good morning from New Englad Brendan! Actually bad morning because the Red Sox blew it. But either way I need your help with HUGE blockbuster deal. Pick a side: Colston, Reggie Bush, Marshawn Lynch, Jay Cutlet, and the San Diego D...or...Chad Pennington, Vincent Jackson, Ike Hilliard, Clinton Portis, and the Philly Defense? Thanks Brendan!
Brendan Roberts (11:09 AM)
Sorry to hear (see) about your Sox, Dan. Great game, though! Even with Bush out, I think that GREATLY favors the first side of the deal.
Stuart (Syosset, NY)
Brendan, I need 40 points out of tonight's game. I can use two out of three: Brandon Marshall, Eddie Royal, and Sammy Morris. If I go with the two Denver WRs, would they cancel each other out in my attempt to get 40 points? Do I need to go with Sammy and Marshall?
Brendan Roberts (11:11 AM)
Yeah, I think getting 40 points out of essentially one position is expecting a lot. (Well, expecting 40 points from ANY two players is expecting a lot, but anyway ...) You have to take Marshall and Morris, the better two plays anyway, and hope they trade scores tonight. I wish you luck! I respect that you're still fighting for it.
Justin, NJ
With Bush out a few weeks, who is the better pick up? Stecker or Pierre Thomas?
Brendan Roberts (11:12 AM)
Between those two? Thomas. But Deuce is looking a lot better right now, I must admit. I'm not a fan of Deuce, who I don't think will get a full load, but he'll get a guaranteed 13-15 touches per game, with Thomas around 10, and that might be good enough if the matchup is right.
Scott (Miami, FL.)
I am down by 39 points with Jay Cutler and Brandon Marshall left..Can I put out the win?
Brendan Roberts (11:14 AM)
If the game were at home, maybe. If the game were against a cushy secondary (the Pats' isn't great, but it ain't cushy), maybe. Keep the faith, but it ain't lookin' good, brutha Scott.
Lee (NY)
Hey Brendan, would you stay up until 3 am ETD to pick up Deuce Mcallister?...thanks to ESPM settings of players unlocking at around that time...:(
Brendan Roberts (11:15 AM)
Yeah, a good reminder to all of you (although I've never done this ... actually, I did so once, in a competitive hockey league when Mario Lemieux came out of retirement. Seriously.) Unless I REALLY needed a back, I wouldn't do it.
dave (nj)
cutler got me 44 pts alone in week 2 so anything is possible guys i just home he throws to marshall alot tonight
Brendan Roberts (11:16 AM)
Thanks for passing along, Dave! The matchup was different but see ... keep the faith!
Sean (Pittsburgh)
PPR league. I'm up 7 with Moss and Pittman left up against Morris. I am going to hold on?
Brendan Roberts (11:17 AM)
If this were World Series of Poker, your cards would show an 87.7 percent, in my opinion. Just hope the dealer doesn't turn over a queen.
Abe (Detroit)
Good morning Brendan. Do you think it is time to sell high on Steve Slaton, if so what type of WR should I expect in return?
Brendan Roberts (11:19 AM)
Good question, Abe. Ya know, we poo-poo Ahman Green because of his propensity for injury, but two things to consider here: 1) Perhaps he can stay healthy in a platoon role; and 2) As long as he's healthy, he's still a big part of this offense. So yes, Slaton is a sell-high, and I'd be sure to get, oh, maybe a No. 2 or borderline No. 3 WR in his place. Lot more of those type WRs floating around, and fewer of Slatons. So keep your demands high.
Lee (Minneapolis)
Brendan. I've taken advantage of TE injuries and bye weeks to work the waiver wire. Now, I have Daniels, Scheffler, and Shockey and need to drop one to pick a D for this week. Which TE do I drop?
Brendan Roberts (11:21 AM)
Ohhh, you have three of the top 10 tight ends there. Too bad you couldn't trade ... although those guys are all of the level that you probably wouldn't get premium value in return. With Scheffler reportedly close to healthy (he might play tonight), I'd probably drop Daniels. He has less upside than the other two.
Greg (city formaly known as title town)
Whad up Brendan I just lost bush, who should pick up to fill in Moore or Deuce also who will end up with more points at the end of the season, Donnie Avery or Antonio Bryant?
Brendan Roberts (11:25 AM)
I am legitimately concerned about Willie Parker. He'll be back next week ... but will he stay back. And how much of a load can he take? Meanwhile, Mewelde has established himself as a legit backup or even platoon/third-down back. Who should you pick up? Depends upon your fantasy standings. If you're cruising along, and the next 3-4 weeks aren't dire, I'd go with Mewelde. If you are desperate and need wins now, then Deuce. Without knowing that, I'd probably say Deuce, although I want to be sure people didn't discount Moore's value. As for WR, Avery.
Will (STL)
Through no fault of my own, I have T.O. and Roy Williams on the same fantasy team. What's your policy on having two stud WR from the same team? Personally, I hate trying to choose who will have the better week. Should I drop Roy or see what I can get for one of them in a trade?
Brendan Roberts (11:27 AM)
I'm not usually against having two receivers from the same team, although it ain't ideal. Either way, those two are like apples and oranges. T.O. is an every-week starter (despite his recent poor play), and Williams is a shaky start. Yeah, I'd try to trade one, but the problem is neither is in high demand right now. Still, you might be able to get close to legit value for Williams, and he'd be the guy I'd deal (certainly not T.O. right now).
Jay (Philly)
Who is best from here on out? Galloway, L Moore, or D Avery
Brendan Roberts (11:28 AM)
Lance Moore has been pretty darned good, but he has fallen down the targets pecking order quickly. Galloway is just rounding into form, and he'd be my pick.
Dan Des Moines, IA
I have a trade offered to me and I want to get an expert's opinion. LT, Sproles and Santana Moss for me to get Addai, Rhodes and Colston. I already have Barber and Forte on my team. My receivers are a little weak. What do you think?
Brendan Roberts (11:29 AM)
Hi, Dan. No expert's opinion, but I'll give you mine. (Ha, ha ... a little fantasy writer's humor.) Um, That's pretty close, and I do think LT is going to be fine, but Addai is close enough such that I think you win that deal. I'd do it.
Adam (NY)
My RB squad isnt the deepest pool in the world (Portis, Slaton, McFadden, F. Jones, White) but I have been relying on Fasano at TE thusfar. Is it bad if look to trade a package of Mcfadden, White, and receivers for Kellen Winslow?
Brendan Roberts (11:32 AM)
I certainly wouldn't give up a package for him. In fact, I'm probably against a trade at all. Hey, outside of Witten, Gates and Gonzo, and intermittently a few others, tight ends are very unpredictable. What I would do instead is try to trade a lesser bench player for a lesser tight end that is slightly better than Fasano, and just live with that, a slight upgrade. For what it's worth, two tight ends I really like are Greg Olson in Chicago and Zach Miller in Oakland. Quietly productive, those two are.
Henry (Cali)
What up Brendan? Would you play a good Pittsburgh Defense this week against a good Giants offense or an also good Philly Defense against a mediocre Atlanta offense? Thanks Brendan
Brendan Roberts (11:34 AM)
Hi, Henry. That's pretty close, but I'd probably have to say PIT. They have more upside, have a more opened-up offense now that could lead to turnovers (Atlanta plays it safe) and have simply been more productive this season.
Kenny (Houston)
I am miserable. I have Brett Favre, Ben Roethlesburger, and Donovan McNabb and I hate having to pick who is going to start each week. Like this week I played Brett over Ben. Brett=0, Ben=20 and I lost by 19. I want to get rid of one, but which, Thanks.
Brendan Roberts (11:36 AM)
I feel your pain, Kenny. A lot of people reading this do too. Yeah, that's rough, and unfortunately, you have to trade one. Who to trade? Ya know, I'd hit it from this reverse perspective. I'd find the 2-3 trade partners that best fit your team, and then let them choose. Honestly, fellow owners love that option. Makes it seem more like a negotiation and less like a proposal. Just go to them with an open-ended question, and tell them who you want.
Scott, Green Bay
QB Question. I have Schaub, Orton and D.Anderson on my team. Is if finally okay to drop Anderson and ride matchups with the other two?
Brendan Roberts (11:37 AM)
I guess I've never thought about this till now, but yes, it's probably OK to drop Anderson. Wow, yes it is.
Jason (Chicago)
Where was Colston at? You sure he played?
Brendan Roberts (11:38 AM)
Yup, he played. I saw it first-hand, but he played less than full strength and less than a full workload. He'll be fine. You took a bogey in Week 7, but he'll still produce for ya.
Dave (Seattle)
Trade away TO and Slaton for Bowe and Gore?
Brendan Roberts (11:39 AM)
Oh, that is an interesting one ... but I love me the Gore (unless my man TMR). I'd say yes, Dave.
James (Worcester, MA)
After Lendale White's huge game yesterday, what can we expect for the rest of the year?
Brendan Roberts (11:40 AM)
We can pretty much throw out yesterday's game -- it was just one of those games against a sorry Chiefs D -- and go with what we saw in the first six weeks. 30-40 yards a game and regular scores. Not major week-to-week upside (outside of this one), but still a solid point-producer.
Depressed Bengals fan (Cincinnati)
How sad is it that I'm not sure if Chad Ocho Stinko is even worth owning in a 10-team league? My other WRs are Andre Johnson, Colston, Edwards, Vincent Jackson, Muhammad, & Engram. Drop Engram for Chad? Also, what are your odds the Bengals don't win a game this year?
Brendan Roberts (11:43 AM)
Yeah, that is sad, but an honest reality, especially in a 10-team league. However, he did catch eight balls yesterday (many of them swing passes in mopup time), and Carson Palmer could still return. I think you have to keep a player of his upside around a little longer ... even if it's at the expense of a more productive player such as Muhammad or Engram. The Bengals will show some fight eventually, and Johnson still has at least a couple good games in 'em.
Torry Holt (STL)
Am I going to ride people's benches from here on out?
Brendan Roberts (11:44 AM)
No, "Torry," I think you should still be starting. As an aside, how 'bout them ... Rams?!
Chuck (NYC)
you think sammy will be a decent bush fill in, sort of seems like lamont and maroney are going to be shelved for a little while.
Brendan Roberts (11:45 AM)
Absolutely he'll be a good fill-in. Heck, that's a great backup option for you. Sure, he ain't an elite back, but having a guy like him on the bench sure eased your mind when you saw Bush limp off, huh?
Rick, Miami
Which WR is better for the long haul? Plaxico, Hines Ward, or Lee Evans?
Brendan Roberts (11:45 AM)
Plaxico.
Tom (SoCal)
What should ownders do w/ D.McFadden. Keep, bench or try to trade him?
Brendan Roberts (11:47 AM)
Hmm, McFadden doesn't look so good now just because Fargas is back and carrying a-plenty. But I really don't think Fargas can stay healthy. McFadden just has so much upside, and the playoff weeks are still a fantasy focus ... so I say you keep him around, and maybe Fargas gets hurt and puts D-Mac in the saddle for the key playoff weeks. That's, I think, your best option.
Matt (PA)
Is it time to stick with McGahee and drop McClain?
Brendan Roberts (11:48 AM)
Stick with McGahee, yes. Drop McClain? Well, if you have McGahee, it'd be nice to keep Le'Ron around for handcuff purposes, but if you're in a roster crunch, sure, dropping him would probably be OK. Ray Rice is still in the mix there too.
Tony (Kansas City, MO)
Brenadn, would you drop Holt for Avery? Does Avery have that much upside?
Brendan Roberts (11:49 AM)
No way. Keep Holt. Avery will have his good games, especially when the matchup is right (when the Rams are at home against a team that is lacking depth at CB). But Holt still has way more upside.
Tom (Chicago)
What do I do with Cotchery? He'll be solid for 2 weeks and then be in the low-mid single digits, and I'm in a PPR league!
Brendan Roberts (11:51 AM)
Yeah, tough call, Tom, but Chansi Stuckey seems to have Favre's eye more than Cotchery. I saw a lot of Sunday's game, and what I saw is that the Jets run set plays for Coles on some plays and then just let Favre improvise on others, and when he does, he isn't looking to the outside and finding Cotchery. I really am concerned for Jerricho's value, and I think you can even drop him in shallow leagues or standard ones in which you have depth at WR and need another position.
Megan, Tinton Falls NJ
Rather have u answer my ? Brendan then Chris. Would u do this trade. Roy E. Williams 4 TJ Who's your moma? Please need your help the trade comes off the board @ noon
Brendan Roberts (11:52 AM)
Awwww ... Houshmandzadeh.
King (TX)
Steven Jackson - Is he back and legit again or was this a fluke - Also, whats up with the theigh bruise?
Brendan Roberts (11:52 AM)
Oh, he's fine. He's back and legit again.
Steve(Ma)
S JAX...OUT AND IF SO IS MINOR WORTH A PICKUP? TY
Brendan Roberts (11:54 AM)
The STL press is barely talking about S-Jax's thigh bruise ... it's considered minor. Just when 70 percent of your offense is through one player, everything is magnified. Jackson has a tough matchup in NE next week that might limit his carries, but all indicatons are he'll be fine.
Yusef
You're gonna think I'm crazy, but would you prefer LT or Forte for the rest of the year?
Brendan Roberts (11:55 AM)
You're not crazy, but I'd still say LT. I think Forte will wear down a bit as a rookie in the second half. That, or the Bears will (continue to ... as of the past few weeks) limit his carries somewhat, which knocks him down anyway. LT will still play, will still score plenty, will still get lots of carries. I'd stick with 'em.
Morgan (Dallas)
I'm within striking distance, but I need to make the right call tonight - Should I start PITTMAN or FAULK?
Brendan Roberts (11:56 AM)
I'd say Pittman. Sure, it's the road team, but it sounds like he'll get plenty of carries, and since he's their goal-line back, he has a better shot of scoring.
Craig (NY)
What do you expect of of Calvin Johnson. HUGE game but he only caught TWO balls! Sell high? Johnson for Coles or Braylon?
Brendan Roberts (11:57 AM)
Good point on Calvin, but he's still a mega-talented receiver who is now a No. 1 on a team that will throw often (even while catching up). Now, that Braylon offer is tempting, but put simply, I expect BIG things from Megatron in the second half.
Mark (Akron)
Which DEF/ST do you like this week TEN vs. Colts or Jets vs. KC
Brendan Roberts (11:59 AM)
Ya know, a good find on your part, Mark. Most people would say TEN and call it a day, but Indy has put up some big games on their rival over the years, and I can see a similar result. Meanwhile, with all the QB problems in KC and the Jets being at home ... I'd probably play the matchup and go with NYJ.
#6 OSU Cowboys
Should I trade Brandon Jacobs and Chris Chambers for Deangelo WIlliams and Bernard Barrian?
Brendan Roberts (12:00 PM)
Nah, wouldn't do that. Jacobs' value is too high.
Brian (Pittsburgh)
Is Julius Jones done for (fantasy wise), is Maurice Morris a decent pickup, or should I just avoid the situation altogether.
Brendan Roberts (12:01 PM)
Nah, Jones isn't done. He's just one of those platoon backs who will have his moments in the right matchups (such as at home against the Rams or at home against Arizona). He's just having a typical inconsistent Julius season.
Brendan Roberts (12:01 PM)
One more, guys ...
matt (miami, fl)
I have Cutler, Rivers and Orton which one would you be willing to trade and what can I look to get?
Brendan Roberts (12:03 PM)
I'd probably look to trade Rivers. Orton has overachieved the most, in my mind, but fellow owners likely know that and won't give you much for him. Rivers has overachieved, too, and could still be in high demand via trade. Just be sure to pick the right owner.
Brendan Roberts (12:04 PM)
All right, guys. That'll do it. Hope at least my pinch-hit appearance didn't result in a K. I'll be taking my regular turn at bat at 3 p.m. tomorrow (Tuesday). Either see ya then ... or good luck getting the guys you want this week.
