John Seibel (2:00 PM)
greetings and welcome to the machine, 'nation. how much love do you have for the city of brotherly love after the phils dispatch baseball's warm and fuzzy rays?
Brad Lidge (relieved)
You don't know how happy I was that Albert Pujols didn't suddenly stride to the plate.
John Seibel (2:04 PM)
funny. when eric hinske dug in at the dish, i said, "relax, brad. it's not albert pujols." not to feel too sorry for millionaires who play a kid's game for a living, but i did feel sorry for brad lidge for the last few years. to hear guys like brad ausmus say that lidge is one of the best men he has ever known is quite impressive and makes his rise back to the top a little warmer.
David Price
What exactly was the manager saving me for? I should've came in the game in the 6th.
John Seibel (2:05 PM)
managers save closers for the back end of the game when in the lead or tied. that's baseball 1-oh-1. consider this, the rays bullpen had been sound, so whatever joe maddon was doing was working. it just didn't last night.
Brad (Gadsden,Alabama)
Who are you going to be for Halloween?
John Seibel (2:06 PM)
patty labell butchering the national anthem.
JBG (Scranton, PA)
For the players that I saw come through Scranton, I'm really happy. For friends and family of mine who root for the Phils, I'm glad. For the city of Philadelphia and many of the fans, not so much.
John Seibel (2:07 PM)
i'm sure duracell and the energizer bunny are bummin'. the phils win means a kinder, gentler fan base next year and few batteries being launched at the opposition.
chauncey (teaneck)
can the phillies repeat next year?
John Seibel (2:12 PM)
can they? absolutely. will they? the odds and history say, no! i think the dodgers will be big time players next season as long as they hang on to manny. i hate saying this, but if the yanks get cc and aj burnett, they have the potential to be nasty along with pettitte and mussina providing those 2 are coming back.
Santa Claus (Hospital ER)
Fewer batteries? That's not true at all!
John Seibel (2:13 PM)
sorry about that d-cell from the upper deck, nick.
Sam (Lake Bluff, IL)
Give us all a dark-horse candidate to sign Manny Ramirez...
John Seibel (2:15 PM)
san francisco. considering their debt and the amount of fans the have to have on a nightly basis to service that debt, bringing manny in would help continue bringing in the dollars.
Adam Dunn
What are the chances that I'm slugging 40 home runs and driving in 100 runs again for a contender next year?
John Seibel (2:16 PM)
if you're willing to take 5-million, maybe! if you're holding on to the pipe dream of 10-13 mill a year, forget it. the economy is effecting baseball teams to with the exception of the yanks, mets, red sox and cubs and none of them will give the donkey a sniff.
Flemming (Copenhagen, Denmark)
The Yankees are better off without Burnett.......guess we're back at it, Seibel......
John Seibel (2:17 PM)
burnett is a risk. no doubt, but if IF they can catch lightning in a bottle and he can start 25-games, then that's a big boost.
JBG (Scranton, PA)
Flemming v Johnny is better than any NBA matchup you'll ever see!
John Seibel (2:19 PM)
caution, i have one heckuva a drop-step. actually, it's the sharp elbow that follows the drop-step that's vicious, but hey, what's a little physicality amongst friends.
Paull (Atlanta)
Congrats to the Phillies!! John - who do the Tigers add to their pitching staff to get back to the WS? I think they should make a push for CC
John Seibel (2:21 PM)
i'll be curious to see who makes a run at ben sheets. his injury history suggests that the market will be down for him. teams would be more willing to make a run for him then. it's a discount of sorts.... still risky but still yet it's a discount. i think that could bring in the tigers and braves.
Greg Oden
John, do you think the league will allow me to play in a bubble? Maybe then I won't get hurt.
John Seibel (2:23 PM)
harsh crowd! neither of his injuries are "soft" injuries. it's not like he has a strained hammy or something. these are legitimate injuries that have sidelined him.
The Suits (Bristol)
John, when we told everyone to play the "streak for cash" game at ESPN.com we didn't mean it literally. Put your pants back on!
John Seibel (2:24 PM)
my bad. i'm a big ray stevens and "old school" fan.
Orestes (with two black eyes)
Mosdef johnny has a tough elbow!!
John Seibel (2:24 PM)
that's for the benny hill pat on the head.
JBG (Scranton, PA)
Greg Oden is Sam Bowie 2.0.
John Seibel (2:25 PM)
so who is the '07 michael jordan?
Matt (Philly)
Well Oden is 64 years old! injuries happen to old men! GO PHILLIES!!!
John Seibel (2:26 PM)
have you ever seen greg oden and satchel paige in the same place? me neither. he kind of looks like grady on sanford and son, too.
Matt (Philly)
Kevin Hungry Like the Wolf Durant Durant is the 07 Jordan
John Seibel (2:27 PM)
how many times was jordan shut out in the 1st-half of an opener? durant is no jordan.
Jon (Chicago)
John, I am in trouble, I am already sick of the NBA, what should I do...hibernate?
John Seibel (2:28 PM)
yep.... but wake up in may. that's when professional caging is in its full glory.
David (Houston, TX)
How long do the Rays have their lineup/core players signed for?
John Seibel (2:29 PM)
they have them either signed or under control with arbitration for the next 4-years or so. they are in position to be a player for a while. they still need a closer because they want to start price next year. the question is, will they spend money to get a closer?
JBG (Scranton, PA)
I'm a Knicks fan John. Will May mean anything to me this year? BTW, I thought this was the MLB Show.
John Seibel (2:30 PM)
yeah, may will mean something. it means you're 1-month closer to june.
Cosmo (Anytown, USA)
Phillies parade tomorrow - 2 million people, over or under?
John Seibel (2:31 PM)
i'll say over 2-mill will show up... but slightly under 2-mill will be hammered.
John Seibel (2:32 PM)
this was quite fun. show time is 4-eastern (noon in takotna, alaska) on espn radio and espnradio.com.next tuesday we become an all football show... football today, so get your pigskin ready.later, people!
