Chris Low (1:00 PM)
In the saddle and ready to go.
Daniel Logan (Birmingham, AL)
Will either Terrance Cody or Andre Smith go to the NFL after this season?
Chris Low (1:02 PM)
I think Andre Smith will for sure. He's going to be a Top 5 pick. Some are projecting Cody as a Top 10 pick, although this latest injury could play a role. If I had to say at this point, I'd say Cody will also come out.
Will (Tuscaloosa)
Do you think an undefeated Penn St. will play for the BCS championship over an undefeated Alabama (Given Texas also wins out)?
Chris Low (1:03 PM)
No, an unbeaten Alabama that also wins the SEC title is a lock to play in the BCS National Championship Game. The Tide would get a lot of extra pop by playing that final weekend in the SEC title game and beating either a Top 5 Florida or Georgia team.
Holly (Tuscaloosa)
Hey Chris. Why do most people talk like other teams are going to finish better than Alabama at the end of the season? Has Alabama not earned any credit for being undefeated?
Chris Low (1:05 PM)
My guess is that because nobody (including me) expected Bama to be in this position. But, hey, the Tide's for real with a great offensive line and a defense that's playing lights out. That's a pretty good combination to have when you're in the race for a national title.
Richie (Anniston, AL)
Do you think that Florida is playing better football than Alabama right now?
Chris Low (1:08 PM)
I think the Gators are playing at least as well as Bama. Florida's offense is so much more explosive now that Demps and Rainey are involved. But I still think Bama has a better offensive line and a better defense. To me, Bama, Florida and Georgia are three of the top six teams out there right now along with Texas, Penn State and Southern Cal. Texas Tech might have something to say about that this weekend, though.
Brad (MS)
Chris you have defended Croom each and every week, but its becoming painfully obvious that Croom is not the answer. What will your defense of him be this week?
Chris Low (1:10 PM)
My take on Coach Croom is that he better do something about his offense or he will be in trouble.
Kris, PA
Do you think West Virginia turned a corner against Auburn this past week? They looked like the Mountaineers of old, and that game had the feel of their 2005 victory over ranked Louisville, which was when the Mountaineer freight train really started rolling. I know Auburn isn't a great team, but they were still in the top 10 in scoring defense, and they got torched. Your thoughts?
Chris Low (1:11 PM)
I thought the Moutaineers looked fantastic, and there aren't many backs in America better than Devine. I like West Virginia down the strech in the Big East race.
Will J (Portland, OR)
Of the 3 young WR's who do you think is the most talented J. Jones, Green, or Crabtree?
Chris Low (1:14 PM)
Great question. I'd take all three over any other three receivers out there in college football. Crabtree plays in a system where he's going to have better numbers, but he's still a terrific player. It's hard to go against Green right now when you look at the numbers he's put up against SEC defenses.
Jay (Durham)
Is nominating David Cutcliffe as a Coach of the Year candidate out of the question?
Chris Low (1:16 PM)
Not if he figures out a way to win two more games and gets to a bowl. The job he's done at Duke reinforces what I've always known about David: He coaches football, but he's also a fabulous molder of young men.
Wes (Cookeville,TN)
What's the latest on the future of Fulmer?
Chris Low (1:17 PM)
I think it's highly unlikely that he's back next year. He's lost so much support from the people that count at Tennessee, and his team isn't getting any better. Tennessee's headed for a 5-7 record, which would be his second non-winning record in four years. Nobody can survive that at Tennessee.
Rob: Gainesville
Chris, Texas runs the table. PSU, UF, and USC all are one-loss teams. Who grabs the spot in the title game?
Chris Low (1:20 PM)
Texas for sure. Then I think it would come down to Penn State and Florida. If the Gators could beat a No. 2 and unbeaten Alabama in the SEC title game, that might be enough to push them past an unbeaten Penn State team. It will at least make things interesting, but I think the aura of JoePa would be too great and that Penn State would squeeze into that 2nd spot in the final BCS standings.
Alex
Quick don't think! Tebow or stafford? Harvin or Green? Knowshon or Demps/Rainey? Spikes or Curran?
Chris Low (1:21 PM)
Your post is a shining example of why the game this Saturday in Jacksonville is going to be a classic.
Chris (St. Louis)
Chris-What will the reaction be in SEC country if Florida or Georgia beats alabams in the SEC title game and then gets snubbed over an undefeated Penn State who ends up getting blown out by Texas?
Chris Low (1:25 PM)
It wouldn't be pretty. Honestly, though, there's so much football to be played. It never works out like we think it will. Case in point: Pitt beating West Virginia last year and UCLA beating USC two years ago at the end of the season.
Jason (Norman, OK)
If Tech beats UT this weekend, then loses to OU. Assuming all 3 wins the rest of their games, who has the higher BCS and wins the tie-breaker for a spot in the Big 12 championship?
Chris Low (1:30 PM)
Well, since Oklahoma is No. 4 this week, I'd say the Sooners would be the favorite. It would probably come down to computer average. Texas is No. 1 with the computers this week, Oklahoma tied for No. 4 and Texas Tech tied for 10th.
Brian (Tallahassee, FL)
What do you think about the Seminoles? They're playing some pretty good football right now.
Chris Low (1:34 PM)
Yes they are, and it starts on defense. They've held six of their seven opponents to 21 points or less. You're going to win a lot of football games that way. That game at Maryland on Nov. 22 is looking huge.
Kathy (Brandon, MS)
Do you think Auburn makes it to a bowl? Can Tubberville keep his job with a losing season?
Chris Low (1:36 PM)
I think Auburn is in danger of having the whole season unravel. It's not a good sign when you give up 31 unanswered points the way the Tigers did at West Virginia last Thursday, and now the defense is starting to show some signs of wear. If this thing ends up 6-6 or worse, I think Tommy Tuberville is in real trouble.
John (Chicago IL)
Love your work Chris. Its becoming more apparent each week that Eric Berry is playing on a different level then everyone else on UT. How do you think he rates amongst all SEC players you have seen?
Chris Low (1:38 PM)
Eric Berry is the best defensive back at Tennessee since Deon Grant and will be better once he's finished. He's a much better tackler than Grant. Berry is among the best four or five defensive players I've seen in the SEC this season along with Rolando McClain and Terrence Cody at Alabama, Brandon Spikes at Florida and Rennie Curran at Georgia.
Aaron (seattle)
Chris - I'm a west coaster who absolutely loves SEC football more than anything. However, perhaps my distance from SEC ground zero gives me a little perspetive. I think the conference as a whole is a bit overrated this year. Bama, Georgia, and Florida are all very good. LSU is pretty good. The rest of the conference seems overwhelmingly average to me. Am I off base here?
Chris Low (1:40 PM)
It's starting to look that way as we get deeper into the season. I still think there's more balance in the SEC than most conferences, but the struggles of Auburn and Tennessee have weakened the SEC some this year, and clearly LSU is not close to being the team it was a year ago.
Cam (Spartanburg, SC)
If the job opens up at Tennessee do you think that Steve Spurrier might take it if they offer it to him, since it seems like he cant get it done at South Carolina?
Chris Low (1:42 PM)
No, I think the Head Ball Coach will be done with coaching when he leaves South Carolina, and I think Tennessee would like to have a younger coach if Fulmer is not back next year. Plus, recruiting at Tennessee is something Spurrier probably wouldn't be real gung ho about.
Chicago
Who does BAMA cheer for in Jacksonville? Seems unlikely UGA will lose to them 2 times in a row and even more unlikely that they will beat FLA.
Chris Low (1:45 PM)
I wouldn't sell the Tide that short. They're more physical on both offense and defense than both Florida and Georgia. Now, Bama isn't as dynamic offensively as either the Gators or the Bulldogs, but I think their strength up front makes up for that.
nick (BOISE)
Hey Chris- How bout a question for us midmajor fans out there. Should a 1 loss TCU team jump over an undefeated BSU team in the BCS Standings?
Chris Low (1:48 PM)
If TCU wins out and beats Utah, that would be two wins over Top 10 teams (BYU being the other) and its only loss coming to No. 2 Oklahoma. So, yes, I could see how TCU might pass an unbeaten Boise State based on the Frogs' total body of work.
Mark (Knoxville)
Alright Chris...I'm an Iowa Hawkeye living right here in the heart of SEC country. Many of my friends here are STILL TALKING TRASH about UT and the SEC being the greatest conference in football...and talking trash about my Iowa Hawkeyes. Two questions...one, who do you like in an IOWA vs. TN matchup This year...and two, what do you think of UT trash talkers in the midst of such a tough season?
Chris Low (1:50 PM)
If Tennessee fans are truly talking trash, I want whatever medication they might be taking.
Bryan (Lexington, Kentucky)
Chris, what's your take on the QB situation at UK? Its becoming painfully obvious that Cobb can just flat out out perform Hartline no matter how much of the offensive scheming he knows.
Chris Low (1:51 PM)
I've thought Cobb was the future there for a while. He hurt his ankle and that set him back. He's still practicing at two positions. The spring will be big for him. He needs to show he can do all the things it takes to be an every-down QB, and if he does, I think it's his job to lose.
Ronnie, MD
Chris.. What team has the best offense? On that note, what do you think the outcome of Saturday's game in Lubbock will be?
Chris Low (1:53 PM)
I've got to go with Texas Tech's offense, but Texas' defense is better. Final score: Texas 51, Texas Tech 45. A real defensive struggle.
Chad (Cascade,MD)
What do you think about maryland?
Chris Low (1:57 PM)
I'm afraid to say, because just when you think they're about to take off and have a really good season, they have one of those losses that just doesn't register. They've got to win next Thursday at Va. Tech because they get North Carolina and Florida State the next two weeks at home.
Robert in Atlanta, GA
Will Stafford and Moreno be staying another year?
Chris Low (1:58 PM)
I think Stafford leaves and it's 50-50 with Moreno.
Billy (Little Rock)
Nutt was real classy by having his brother on the sideline gesturing to fans to boo loudly huh? How about having his son spit on the hog at midfield? Real classy.
Chris Low (1:59 PM)
You guys in Arkansas really don't like Nutt, do you?
Chris Low (2:01 PM)
Time to hand it off. Thanks and we'll catch up next week.
