Paul Kuharsky (3:00 PM)
Hello everybody. Hope you are doing well...
jeremy (beaumont california)
Do you think the titans have a realistic shot at running the table? If not what game trips them up?
Paul Kuharsky (3:01 PM)
I don't. I think they lose one of the next two, I think they could lose to Jacksonville and Pittsburgh. I think the Indy game, if it means everything to Indy and nothing to the Titans, could be dangerous...
Marcus (Indiana)
Hey Paul. No one is giving the Packers a chance to beat the Titans on Sunday. They are coming off a bye and are healthier on both sides of the ball. They were on a roll heading into the bye as well. Do you think they will hand the Titans their first lost of the season?
Paul Kuharsky (3:02 PM)
So much for your theory on no one. I think the Packers probably win.
J (Normal, IL)
Miss you in the Tennessean but happy for you. I wanted you thoughts on my theory. Theory: The offensive line in Tennessee is the reason for a lack of QB controversy. If they were giving up sacks, then at the endof a game they would rest KC. If they rested KC and VY had a good couple of series they *POOF* instant QB contoversy. J
Paul Kuharsky (3:03 PM)
Nice to be missed, but just flip over here and presto, you'll still be able to read me... They would never rest KC. Who rests their starting QB if they have a lead and are only handing off?
J.P., Knoxville
Paul, any word on extensions for Vincent Fuller, Scaife, Tulloch, or Lendale? Also do you see any potential FAs that fit the Titans profile(young, cheap) this offseason, specifically DTs or wideouts?
Paul Kuharsky (3:05 PM)
Wide receivers got significantly thinned out with Roy Williams and Lee Evans getting deals. Housh is the biggest, best possibility. Young and cheap I don't know about yet. No word on extensions, but haven't checked in lately....
Guy (Round Rock, TX)
Can Houston win on the road?
Paul Kuharsky (3:06 PM)
I don't know. This looks like winnable game to me. But they like that two steps forward, one step back thing...
Jesse in Nashville
Last week you said "I think Titans D-line smushes Colts O-line, making any offensive rhythm difficult." That didnt really happen.. is that more of an indictment on the Titans D line w/o KVB or kudos to the Colts blocking efforts?
Paul Kuharsky (3:08 PM)
Kudos to Colts. They worked really hard and they played a lot of 4-4 with an extra linebacker at the expense of a safety. So they sold out to stop the run, daring the Titans to beat them throwing. And the Titans beat them throwing...
JL (Hoboken, NJ)
Do the Titans regret not re-signing Travis LaBoy given his success with the Cardinals?
Paul Kuharsky (3:08 PM)
Because things have gone so poorly without him? They've not spent a second thinking about Travis LaBoy. Not at that price....
Marlin Jackson
It looks like I'm out for the year now. How many more injuries is my team going to have?
Paul Kuharsky (3:09 PM)
Looks like one of those years where guys just keep dropping. Not fun. Sorry to hear your news, Marlin. Good of you to stop by...
Jason Chicago
What do the Titans do with VY? I dont know any sucessful QB's who were benched for this long. McNair never started and had that much sucess that young. Steve Young was a washout in TB is VY done in Nashville?
Paul Kuharsky (3:10 PM)
Too early to say. Barring injury he's out of the picture this season. He gets at least one more chance with Titans I would expect...
Jesse in Nashville
PK.. I was talking about the Titans D-line versus the Colts O-line actually..
Paul Kuharsky (3:11 PM)
They got some good push. Manning gets the ball out in a hurry. Outside of the Clark connections -- and 14 points was significant -- the Colts didn't really hurt the Titans throwing it, did they? Corners were very good...
Ryan (San Diego)
Did the Titans beat them throwing or the Colts just not score enough? If the Colts convert those 4th down and shorts, its a completely different game
Paul Kuharsky (3:13 PM)
Titans hit enough pass plays to get around what the Colts were doing. Thirty-one points with their defense is gong to win almost every time...
Joey (Rochester, New York)
Chris Johnson ended up being the best draft pick for the Titans this year over any wide receiver. Because if Lendale White is the full time starter the Titans are not 7-0. What is wrong with Lendale this year? When he gets his carries he's not getting the yards he did last year and this year he's healthy. Thoughts?
Paul Kuharsky (3:15 PM)
Wrote about LenDale today, please check it out. It's ugly, but they like what they are getting from him -- feel like he gets the tough yard when they need it. Helps of course that they are feeding him at the goal line...
Joe Davidson (Stamford)
Does what you do actually feel like a job? You get paid to talk football, what a life
Paul Kuharsky (3:16 PM)
It's a great job. I can't imagine doing anything else. Very fortunate...
JB (TX)
I'll switch it up w/a Texans question: I was at the game last week, when will Dunta Robinson start seeing regular starters snaps? And why is DeMarcus Faggins still in the league?
Paul Kuharsky (3:17 PM)
Faggins is a very popular topic. They seem to feel a loyalty to him for his service time and because he is such a likeable guy. If Robinson feels good they have to be close to full time for him. Generally, they do too much rotating. D-line is one thing. Left guard combo or three corners in two spots once you're healthy isn't the way to go, in my mind...
Mike (Iowa)
Out of the 3-4 AFC South teams and looking at the injuries & schedules, which team has the best chance to get a wildcard spot?
Paul Kuharsky (3:18 PM)
I'm still going to say Jacksonville. But Jags and Colts each have a shot still. Need to start making their moves...
Pittsburgh Steelers (in danger of fading fast)
Anyone know a good long-snapper?
Paul Kuharsky (3:19 PM)
They signed one today...
Frank (Pell Lake, WI)
Fantasy question: I have Greg Jennings as a WR and was wondering if i should start him this week against the Titans?
Paul Kuharsky (3:19 PM)
Who else do you have? I'd start Greg Jennings every week on my team...
Ryan (San Diego)
Watching Lendale run is painful. Chris Johnson is so much better I find it hard to believe they still only split carries
Paul Kuharsky (3:20 PM)
They still like those ugly yards, still believe he helps soften things up over the course of a game...
Michael (Afghanistan)
Based on your power ranking comments this week, why do you think that the Colts no longer have the talent to be a Super Bowl contender?
Paul Kuharsky (3:21 PM)
Because they are 3-4 with no chance to win the division, because they've not played six good quarters in a row all season and because their stars aren't playing up to their standards...
Guy (Round Rock, TX)
Why do these guys keep taking supplements that are NOT on the NFL's approved list? It seems pretty simple to me. Am I missing something?
Paul Kuharsky (3:21 PM)
The part where they might be trying to cover up something else they are taking?
Chris (Nashville)
If Indy loses their next 2 to NE and Pittsburg, are they finished?
Paul Kuharsky (3:22 PM)
Probably. Unless a bunch of other second and third place teams all have a bad couple weeks too...
JB (TX)
So what's the deal w/the Matt Jones suspension? He is playing this week, correct? Just waiting on an appeal? Seems cocaine would be as serious if not more than some of the other things guys have already sat down for.
Paul Kuharsky (3:23 PM)
Waiting on appeal. Should hear Tuesday. Even if it's reduced, and I don't suspect it will be, I think he kind of butchered the timing. He could have avoided missing the Titans game...
JL (Hoboken, NJ)
Offensive ROY: Chris Johnson or Matt Ryan?
Paul Kuharsky (3:23 PM)
Too early to say. Ryan's got a tougher assignment for sure...
Chris (Virginia Beach)
So Chris Johnson is rookie of the year right? He leads the AFC in rushing, despite sharing the rock so much. But I thought that the Titans were going to use him a bit more catching the ball. Are they going to? And why not give CJ the ball once and while at the goal line to get him a couple of touchdowns. He does all the work to get there, and doesnt get to put an exclamation on it. Its rather socialisf of Fisher if you ask me. Spread the wealth.
Paul Kuharsky (3:25 PM)
The veteran gets the TDs. It in line with Fisherism, and I am sure they think it helps save CJ some pounding. Ryan could win O-ROY. My main thinking on why they haven't used CJ wide is that they haven't had to and they'll spring it when they feel like they are in need of a spark...
JB (TX)
So now that Lavelle Hawkins is emerging is the Titans '07 draft class (outside of Griffin of course) officially done?
Paul Kuharsky (3:26 PM)
Emerging? Three catches in two games leaves a little ground still to cover...
Tim (Chicago)
How effective will Addai and Sanders be this Sunday? Also, how serious is Reggie Wayne's hamstring injury?
Paul Kuharsky (3:28 PM)
The Colts are not real forthcoming with such information. Maybe Sanders gets spotted by Bullitt. Addai could give up a little more than usualy to Rhodes.
Anthony NY
Im not a hugh giants fanboy.. but look i believe we got another shot this year if things look right! agree or disagree?
Paul Kuharsky (3:28 PM)
Absolutely agree...
JB (TX)
Dude, 3 catches in 2 games is a windfall for any Titans WR! But seriously, we'll never see Davis or Williams again barring injury, right?
Paul Kuharsky (3:29 PM)
I'd hope not...
Guy (Round Rock, TX)
Is Chris Johnson Milli or Vanilli?
Paul Kuharsky (3:30 PM)
I am with White on this: Milli Vanilli was a fraud. How are CJ and LenDale frauds?
Frank (Pell Lake, WI)
Did you support "Code Blue" to work on this past Monday Night? The city looked amazing on TV with the different buildings and bridge lit up!
Paul Kuharsky (3:31 PM)
Support it, as in look at all the blue and think it looked good? Yes. Support it by wearing light blue? (Let's call it by it's correct name, Columbia Blue.). No.
Michael Griffin Nashville
Am I the best but quietest player in our secondary Cortland & Nick get all the press and Chris has a SB ring but arent I the most talented?
Paul Kuharsky (3:32 PM)
Haven't seen Nick getting a lot of press. Think each guy benefits from the other three being pretty good...
Michael (Afghanistan)
If the Bengals get their first win of the year this Sunday, will is cost Jack Del Rio his job?
Paul Kuharsky (3:33 PM)
No. Wayne Weaver is behind him and wouldn't fire a guy he'd have to continue to pay...
Vinnie (NYC)
Paul, the question of the hour... will you be buying the new Guns N' Roses album on November 23??
Paul Kuharsky (3:33 PM)
For my wife, perhaps...
Josh (nashville)
Thanks for being my friend on facebook
Paul Kuharsky (3:34 PM)
Thanks for asking. I am thinking about instituting a new rule, however, that requests must come with a note. I try to write one if the prson I am asking doesn't know me...
Josh (nashville)
Would you expect the packers to try to throw on the titans more to open up the run game? To me I dont know why teams dont throw on them more. seems titans def backs are willing to give room to the receivers.
Paul Kuharsky (3:37 PM)
I think the best chance for the Packers will come out of loading up to stop the run and getting plays out of their secondary. Offensively I think they will certainly take their shots with those wideouts...
Colby (Georgia):
Any Chance the Titans fork out the money to keep haynesworth at the end of the season??
Paul Kuharsky (3:38 PM)
He'll be in range of free agency and I will be surprised if he doesn't wait for his chance to become the highest-paid defensive player in football...
JB (TX)
You realize you just got yourself about 20 facebook requests right then, right?
Paul Kuharsky (3:38 PM)
It's my secret plan for getting additional blog readers...
Vinnie (NYC)
Will Mario Williams finally get some respect and make the Pro Bowl this year?
Paul Kuharsky (3:41 PM)
Finally get some respect? It was all of one year that he was deserving and didn't get elected, no? What a long wait it has been. I think he got a great deal of respect last year. I think he's on track for more for sure...
Brian (Seattle, Wa)
Pat, Any chance Jim Mora does not take the Seahawk head coaching job and takes the University of Washington head coaching job instead?
Paul Kuharsky (3:42 PM)
That's a great question you should ask Mike Sando. I'd like to know what he thinks....
Josh (nashville)
Lets says Titans have 3 game lead over everyone in AFC and locked up home field advantage....do you see fisher resting players for the steelers and colts?
Paul Kuharsky (3:42 PM)
For the Colts maybe. Not for two weeks, no...
Aaron (Nashville)
I know that whatever happens this season, good or bad, the Titans won't splash for a big WR. I'm not saying its' the end of the world, but think about the possible stats. It's very likely that the leading pass-catching wideout (not tight end or running back) will not eclipse 40 catches...that's plain crazy. It may work this season but longterm you have to think it'll bite them in the butt.
Paul Kuharsky (3:43 PM)
They've done it that way for 10 years. Guess it depends on your definition of getting bit in the butt...
Chris (Nashville)
Titans are making good habit of getting quality players from Inday, why not go for Bill Pollian now? I enjoy listening to him, very knowledgable about football in general.
Paul Kuharsky (3:44 PM)
Titans just got a new GM and Polian isn't job hunting...
Vinnie (NYC)
It was 2 years beginning with his rookie season that the guy was criticized because he was the #1 pick in the draft instead of Bush.
Paul Kuharsky (3:45 PM)
He was bad his first year. Hurt and not especially productive. How dare people not anticipate his big second year and give him credit ahead of it!
JB (TX)
Titans have done pretty well w/cap room recently since the big purge, no? If not Big Al what are they saving it for?
Paul Kuharsky (3:45 PM)
Bud's vault?
Michael (Afghanistan)
Since the Titans continue to win, do you think that will have a direct reflection in not dressing Kyle Vanden Bosch? Is his injury for that position threaten his season?
Paul Kuharsky (3:46 PM)
Not at all. He should be back this week...
cutlerfan Nashville
So did you like Denver?
Paul Kuharsky (3:46 PM)
Always enjoy visiting Denver and got to see an old friend. Was very dreary however...
Eddie (Los Angeles)
Paul, whats the latest with kvb, is he gonna be alright for the game this weekend? Also I think you're the man, and keep holding your own with those other bloggers!
Paul Kuharsky (3:47 PM)
Thanks, bud. I'll be surprised if KVB does not play...
Tucker (Santa Fe)
KC has as many interceptions as touchdowns thus far. Any chance Monday night was a rare occurrence of the Titans moving the ball well in the air because of a Colts defense that was playing the run? Can we expect more passes from Dinger's playbook?
Paul Kuharsky (3:48 PM)
They will take yards however the defense allows. They tend to be stubborn with the run, but if you're going to play four backers, they'll throw as they should and as they did...
JL (Hoboken, NJ)
Did your ploy to get more people into the chat work?
Paul Kuharsky (3:49 PM)
Don't know. Should we have people count off? Is it crowded in your section? I appreciate your loyalty...
Brian (Memphis)
Who is the most important person to their team in the AFC South?
Paul Kuharsky (3:50 PM)
Manning, without question...
Adam (Washington, DC)
Are you surprised that Kerry Collins mentioned today that the Titans have installed a Wildcat package for Vince Young? I'd imagine the coaches aren't too happy about that coming out before its debut.
Paul Kuharsky (3:51 PM)
I'm pretty sure he was kidding...
Roger Goodell (NYC)
Paul, care to explain these "water pills" we found in your desk? The league does not approve of such shenanigans. You will be hearing from us again.
Paul Kuharsky (3:52 PM)
I have got to drop some weight. Help me before I ruin my career. (Wanna be friends on facebook, commish?)
Brian (Memphis)
Follow-up questions, whose the best player right now in the AFC South? Hayesworth right?
Paul Kuharsky (3:52 PM)
I think he's a good choice... Andre Johnson is right there too...
Michael (Afghanistan)
Based on our email discussion about Frank Wycheck making this year's HOF Prelim list.... Other than the Payton Manning and maybe Marvin Harrison, which active player do you see in the AFC South that has the potential to make the Hall of Fame? After midnight here, I am out after your answer. Thanks for the football talk, my friend.
Paul Kuharsky (3:54 PM)
Manning and Harrison definitely. Fred Taylor has some impressive numbers and a very good career. Andre Johnson could be that kind of player over time. Be safe my friend...
JB (TX)
Was KC kidding about VY in the Wildcat? Think about it, outside of CJ he's the most dynamic athlete they have on offense. Why not use him?
Paul Kuharsky (3:55 PM)
What is the need right now?
Jesse in Nashville
Paul - looks like its a done deal, the Boss is playing the Superbowl. I guess you owe Frank Wycheck some cash, right?
Paul Kuharsky (3:55 PM)
Paid in full before Wycheck had ever heard it was official...
Ed Hochuli (Chat Ref)
Personal Foul on Brian from Memphis, hogging all the chat questions, 15 yard penalty still forth down
Paul Kuharsky (3:58 PM)
I just pick the questions, hardly look at the names, I swear. (Unless you're writing from Afghanistan.) But go ahead and walk off the yardage against him. First-and-25?
Adam (Washington, DC)
I'm surprised Haynesworth doesn't make your list of active potential hall of famers. I'm assuming you didn't think Wycheck was a likely entrant?
Paul Kuharsky (3:59 PM)
Haynesworth is still quite young. Frank is clearly not a Hall of Famer.
Phil Fulmer
Paul - do you think there is a place for me on the Titans coaching staff?
Dan (Nutley, NJ)
As long as the Titans win the division, Jeff Fisher should get coach of the year. Do you agree?
Paul Kuharsky (4:00 PM)
I think he'll be worthy. But if Atlanta does well Mike Smith will win it. It almost always goes to out-of-nowhere guys. Fisher's not out of nowhere...
Anthony, Nashville
You know Paul it's funny. When Vince Young was playing, everybody wanted him out. Now that he's out everybody wants him back in!
Paul Kuharsky (4:01 PM)
I don't think everybody wants him back in. Plenty of people are very happy with status quo. And they should be...
Frank (Pell Lake, WI)
How many of Jeff Fishers' coaching staff do you see getting a look at for head coaching spots in the offseason?
Paul Kuharsky (4:01 PM)
One and a half. Schwartz for sure. Dinger maybe...
The MNF Cannon Operator
I would just like to apologize for shooting off the Scoring cannon during Rob Bironas' kick during the Monday night game.. I was fumbling to get my tiny code-blue T-shirt over my down parka and accidentally hit the trigger.
Paul Kuharsky (4:02 PM)
Thank you for choosing the AFC South Blog chat for coming clean. Can you spell your name for us please?
Robbie (Chicago)
Who is gonna play better this week and who is better in fantasy value? The Falcons D or the Bills D...... Please i need some help.....
Paul Kuharsky (4:03 PM)
I like Atlanta. But I stink at fantasy...
George(dallas,tx)
I am just wondering if after we smash the packers on sunday, we sill start getting the respect we deserve?
Paul Kuharsky (4:03 PM)
You're baiting me right? With the respect thing? Who is it, exactly, that is disrespecting the Titans?
JL (Hoboken, NJ)
Aside from Fat Albert, what other players could the Titans lose this offseason in free agency?
Paul Kuharsky (4:04 PM)
Fuller. Scaife. B. Jones.
Vic (Kailua, HI)
Any chance that Vince Young's progression was halted by Norm Chow's inability to utilize Vince's skills? Or could it be some leftover animocity from the USC-Texas game?
Paul Kuharsky (4:06 PM)
Any chance Chow's progression as an NFL coordinator was halted by Young? That's more likely. No, I don't think Norm ambushed his pro career because UT beat USC in a game when Norm was already with the Titans...
Scott (CT)
Scaife looks like he should be a pro bowler, at least thus far. in the AFC the TE position has been fair at best.
Paul Kuharsky (4:06 PM)
He's not even on the ballot, you know? Owen Daniels has been excellent...
Paul Kuharsky (4:09 PM)
OK folks, this always flies by. Time to get on to some other work. Maybe for you guys too? Thanks for coming. Hope the seating was OK. Please tip the ait staff. Please come back next week...
Frank (Pell Lake, WI)
This Pro Bowl balloting is a joke. It's not even the half way point of the season and voting has been going on for a couple of weeks! A reason why Tommie Harris made the Pro Bowl even though he tore his groin and was IRed!
Paul Kuharsky (4:10 PM)
Couldn't agree more: http://myespn.go.com/blogs/afcsouth/0-5-78/Too-early-for-Pro-Bowl-ballot--but-here-it-is.html
