Buzzmaster (12:50 PM)
We'll have our NFL group stopping by starting at 3 p.m. ET to chat leading into tonight's Monday Night game! Leading off is our fantasy experts, followed by the Scouts Inc. and Football Outsiders! It all begins at 3 p.m. ET.
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:00 PM)
Good Afternoon Everyone! I'll be here for the next hour to answer as many of your fantasy football questions as I can get to..
Roger (Rip City)
What's your stats prediction for FWP long awaited return?
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:02 PM)
It looks like finally we'll get to see Willie Parker in action again tonight. I've got him pegged for 80 yards and 1 TD.
Erich, Houston, TX
Assuming Santana Moss plays, who has a better game, Moss or Holmes?
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:04 PM)
I'm actually not expecting Moss to play tonight. There is still a slight chance, but he's a game time decision right now and HC Jim Zorn doesn't want to commit unless he knows for sure Moss won't be limited. I would start Santonio Holmes and he'll have a better game even if Moss plays.
Matt (PA)
Will Cooley bounce back tonight?
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:05 PM)
Yes, I'm expecting a solid game from Cooley tonight, nothing spectacular though. 4-5 catches, 70 yards...a TD.
Quincy (Cemetery, ND)
Hey Dave! Who would rather have for the rest of the season(and possibly beyond): Ray Rice or Jaamal Charles?
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:06 PM)
Id' rather have Rice considering the uncertainty of McGahee each week.
Mike (So Cal)
Minn-D or Carolina-D for rest of year?
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:06 PM)
The CAR D is extremely underrated and I've got them over MIN from here out.
John (MD)
Is this a good trade: Donnie Avery and Steve Slaton for Portis?
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:06 PM)
Yes, that's an incredible trade for you...make it happen.
Wayne (IA)
Sounds like Orlovsky is hurt and will be out a few weeks. If so, who is a better pickup Culpepper or Sage? Thanks.
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:08 PM)
I would rather have Sage at this point. Getting a few Culpepper questions today. Don't go crazy for him...he's only a depth option right now, not expecting a sudden chemistry or magic with Calvin Johnson. Culpepper will need time to get adjusted.
Derrick (FL)
Hey Dave, If Schaub hits IR, can I rely on Garrard to lead me through the playoffs? Should I pick up Gus with his favorable 14,15,16 matchups?
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:09 PM)
I would rather have Frerotte over Garrard. I agree with you completely on his schedule. Love the Berrian hook up as well.
Randy (CT)
OK Dave NEED TRADE HELP!(youre always good to me on Sunday mornings on Fantasy Live)(plug plug)...so now I'm stuck here with Rivers on my bench (Brees is ma man) and know he's worth something more cause of the fantasy QB death rate rising...so, I'm heavy in RB (CJ, Slaton, Lynch, S. Morris) and WR (the Johnson boys (Dre and Megatron/Djax backup) but is Rivers for maybe a Gore a good move?? Too little for Gore? Do you see a combo here that doesnt hurt me?
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:11 PM)
Considering your RB depth and the propensity of rookie RBs to slow down as the season wears, I'd offer Slaton/Rivers to get Gore. You may be giving up a little much with this deal, but you'd really be upgrading your starting lineup and moving a QB that shouldn't be benched on any roster.
Matt (Austin)
How do you rank these RBs for the rest of the season? Hightower, Rice, Graham, Morris, Moore
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:12 PM)
I've got them: Hightower, Graham, Morris, Rice and Moore.
Alex (Atlanta, GA)
Hey Dave. How do you rank Addai going forward? Top 15?? What about Hightower? Thanks
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:14 PM)
I was really expecting to see more out of Addai last night, but that's my fault for overestimating his return. Shouldn't have been surprising anyway. But going forward, I love Addai. Love his schedule down the stretch, love the fact he got the ball a lot last night. Addai is top-10, but wouldn't surprise me if he was higher. Hightower is a great option now that Edge has been pushed out of the picture. Love that ARI team as a whole now.
Chris-CT
Would you trade Moore to the FWP owner? Torain, Charles, Curtis and Coles would be trade targets.
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:15 PM)
Sure, if I could get Coles and need the WR help. Torain or Charles aren't bad investments either.
Alan (Jersey)
Dave, What's your opinion on being one team heavy fantasy wise? For example, I have Addai, Clark, Vinatieri and Bob Sanders (IDP league)? Is that just asking for trouble?
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:16 PM)
It can work. I've done so in the past with success (Rams of yesteryear with Warner, Faulk, Holt, RamsD) but it's not something I'd recommend. More than likely you're asking for trouble.
Tim (North Cack)
I have Big Ben and Jason Campbell. Mewelde or Parker. Who should I start at both positions?
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:17 PM)
Go with the Steelers duo of Big Ben and Parker. Parker will get the bulk of the carries tonight.
Ryan (OH)
Good time to buy low on Marshall or is this a sign of things to come?
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:18 PM)
It's a great time to buy low on Marshall. He's still a top-5 WR. Go get him if you can.
Chris, Toronto ON
Dave, I'm looking to move E. Manning for a RB to boost my offense (carrying 3 QB's, playing 2 a week). What's good value for Eli right now?
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:20 PM)
I would target RBs like Hightower, Thomas Jones, Slaton, Graham..etc.
Santana Moss (Washington DC)
Who should play if I were to sit out tonight? Santonio Holmes or newcomer Nate?
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:21 PM)
Nate Washington is more of a home run type of player. If you're down by a lot of points going into the game and need that huge play to overcome, then get Washington active. But, for a more dependable start, go with Holmes.
Bryan (Pittsburgh)
Does Cadilac have any value with hurting TB RBs?Schaub done for the year with torn MCL?
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:23 PM)
If you have Schaub on roster, he's not worth holding onto...even for a playoff stretch. He's unofficially out for a month, but I'm expecting him to be out longer, maybe for the year. Caddy isn't someone I'd want to roster right now. Stay away.
Bob (Detroit)
Dave, I've been relying on C.Johnson and Slaton at RB. They're playing great but would you sit tight or try and ship one for a veteran RB of equal value? Would you steer clear of Bush in a PPR?
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:25 PM)
Actually, this is the time I'd be trying to acquire Bush in a PPR league, getting him on the cheap end. As far as CJ and Slaton: they'll play well from here on out, especially CJ, but if you could get a back like Jacobs for either, that would be a good move.
Joe (MN)
Trade Holt for Hightower?
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:26 PM)
absolutely
dc (NC)
Which side is the better deal for remainder of season?Marshawn/Wayne for Turner/Fitz
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:29 PM)
Close call, but I'd rather have the Lynch/Wayne side. Reggie will only get better down the stretch and I don't like Turner's inconsistencies.
Anthony (Davis)
LT for SJax and Desean Jackson. Who wins?
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:31 PM)
With LT finally healthy and looking great in London, I'd make the move for him. I like the Chargers schedule from here on out, plus SJax and his injuries are uncomforting right now.
Robin from the Hood
I?m trying to steal from the Rich to give to the Poor (ME) I just traded P. Manning and Lynch and got Brees and Forte. Was I on the right end of that deal????
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:32 PM)
Yes, but just barely.
Shane (Edison, NJ)
Can you rank the following (rest of 08) for those of us on our 5th QBs this year: Rosenfels, Flacco, Orlovsky(thumb?), Grossman, Daunte, Hasselbeck, Garcia.
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:34 PM)
Sure, brutal group there. I have them: Garcia, Rosenfels, Hasselbeck, Grossman, Flacco, Culpepper, Orlovsky
Dee (Cinti., OH)
L. Johnson is available in my league. Is it worth dropping MJD to pick him up or is he too risky?
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:35 PM)
I wouldn't drop MJD, no, but I'd still like to see you stash LJ if you can. There must be someone else you can drop, far less valuable than MJD. If you have no choice because of roster restrictions, then just hold MJD.
Lynn (Peoria,IL)
D next week, stick with PHI vs. NYG or roll with MIA vs. SEA?
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:37 PM)
I'd go with MIA, actually. The Seahawks, offensively, have just been horrible.
Scott, Ajax,ON
Would you drop Desean Jackson for Antonio Bryant or Derrick Mason???
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:37 PM)
I'd dump DeJax for Mason, yes, especially if this is PPR.
Dave(Dallas)
Trade Holt to get LJ and hope he does something this year?
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:38 PM)
That's a good risk. Yes, I'd make that trade.
Justin (Dallas)
who gives me 3 points and a win tonight: N. Washington, Holmes, or Randle El?
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:38 PM)
Holmes does.
MBIII (TX)
My Schedule looks scary for wk 15and16? should my owner move me????
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:39 PM)
If you can bring fair value, yes, but I wouldn't panic because of the schedule and take a lesser RB in return.
Dookie ( Los Angeles, CA)
Ronnie Brown or L.T. for the rest of the season.....
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:42 PM)
LT, no contest. Brown hasn't had a 100 yard rushing game in over a month and he'll be as inconsistent as ever.
J (Philly)
What do you project tonight for Heath Miller?
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:44 PM)
Not much. 3-4 catches, 50 yards if you're lucky. The WAS D only gives about 3 points a game to TEs this year...not very good for Miller.
Rockville, MD
How soon will we know about Moss tonight? Do I plug in Thrash into the slot and then try to change back before game time?
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:46 PM)
Moss is a game time decision everyone. We won't know until warm-ups, which usually start about an hour before the game. I'd slot Thrash in for now.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Is it just me or has this been an overall bad year for the TEs?
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:48 PM)
It just hasn't been the year we've expected from the TE slot, that's for sure, which is another reason not to reach on TEs in your draft.
RRW-ALASKA
8 team, PPR league.Hightower and R Grant are available, I own MBIII, Turner, Mcgahee and picked up Torian, should I drop Torian and Willis for both Hightower and Grant?
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:49 PM)
Even shallow leaguers get love in my chats! I would definitely dump Torain and McGahee for Hightower and Grant. Make the move.
Pete (Okla)
I have Warner as my starter and need a backup. Trade Muhammed for Campbell or Ryan?
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:50 PM)
Campbell would be the QB I'd want, so giving up Muhammad for him would be fair.
Jay (Houston)
Which 1 out of the three will be the most solid play at WR for the duration: Chris Chambers, Camarillo, or Anthony Gonzalez?
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:51 PM)
I rank them Chambers, AGonz and Camarillo in that order.
Seth (San Dimas, CA)
Is Hester going to get anything going this year for Chicago in the special teams department? Any return TD's this year?
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:52 PM)
I still like Hester this year and do expect a return TD, at least one from here on out. But the guy I really like in CHI now is Rashied Davis.
Dave also!! (Wise, VA)
Jax-D or Car-D the rest of the way??
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:52 PM)
Carolina, one of the more underrated D's in the league this year.
DJ (MN)
What do you think about dropping Mcfadden for Rice?
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:54 PM)
No, I'd hang onto D-Mac...even with the bad toes. I'm not ready to dump him yet.
Lisa Boston Mass
Buy low on Colston?
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:54 PM)
Yes, for sure. After the restful bye week, Colston is a great buy-low target.
Ryan (newport beach, ca)
Dave, what are your thoughts on Fragile Fred? Can I drop him yet or should I hold on to him as a potential flex play if Jax can turn things around?
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:56 PM)
It depends on what you've got available in your league as a free agent pick up. IN standard leagues, you're likely not going to find much better than Freddy T, unless you have owners that aren't watching their teams.
Sam (Boston, MA)
WHAT UP DAVE! I was among the many disappointed by Donnie Avery yesterday... where do you see his value now for the rest of the year? Is he droppable for Camarillo in a PPR League?? Thanks!
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:58 PM)
Avery is an inconsistent option, and I wasn't ready to commit to him this week. Don't count on Avery every week. In fact, I would dump him for Camarillo..yes. Camarillo has been averaging 5 catches a game up until yesterdays breakout performance, so in PPR he's a good pick up as a WR3.
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (4:00 PM)
Okay, Everyone ...that's it for me. Thanks for the questions and don't forget that you can catch me every day via the Answer Guys service that we offer through Insider. You're guaranteed to get your question answered within 24 hrs. Thanks again, and here to take over for me is Gary Horton with Scouts, Inc.
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:06 PM)
Although it was expected, I was shocked yesterday to see how badly the Cowboys played. Or maybe it's just that the Giants are that good. But the cream is starting to rise to the top. It's becoming clear who the elite teams are and who the pretenders are. One thing I noticed as I was reading today is that the NFC East has four good teams, and one of them will not make the playoffs. They're all four playoff-type teams, but someone could be left at home, and it looks like it could be Dallas.
Phil (Blitzburgh)
How will the Steelers offense perform tonight? They have not protected Ben at all so far.
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:08 PM)
I think they'll really struggle. Washington doesn't have a great pressure defense, but with the pass protection being so bad, and the run game not being what it usually is, although Willie Parker is supposed to be back, it's easy for defenses to tee off on Big Ben and play the run on the way to the QB. It's imperative for Pittsburgh to establish the run and keep the pressure off Big Ben, and also to give him a chance in his play-action package, which has been nonexistent in recent weeks.
Kev (NYC)
Who would you rather have for the next 7 years...J Tuck or A Haynesworth?
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:11 PM)
that's an excellent question, and I'm not sure that I wouldn't rather have Tuck, because as an edge guy, he can be a little more dominant because of his explosiveness. Although Haynesworth is a beast, it's hard to ring up great stats as an inside player. I also like Tuck because he has the versatility to play inside--a tough matchup for a guard. I just love his motor. As great as Haynesworth is, there are times when he can take a play off. I don't see that with Tuck. Remember, a lot of people (wrongly) that Haynesworth was playing for a new contract, and he wouldn't be the same player once he got it.
Justin (Queens, NY)
Gary, big win for the Jets yesterday. They're starting to develop an identity as a clock control offense and their D (esp. against the run) is getting better each week. Do you feel they have all the part's in place to make a run at the AFC East Title?
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:13 PM)
The East without Brady is wide open, so yes. I think that Brett Favre will always be Brett Favre, and that will be good enough to win a lot of games, but I really like it when they establish the run in a ball-control attack and let Brett pass off of that. I watched Chris Jenkins on film today, and he is unblockable. With the exception of Haynesworth, there is no inside defensive player better at collapsing the pocket and creating havoc. The Jets have key stars at several different positions. All I want to see is an offensive gameplan that has a good flow this week.
Scott (Milwuakee)
How will the Skins offense perform?
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:15 PM)
They'll be excellent, although the Steelers' run defense is really really good. I love the way Clinton Portis is running right now, and I think Jason Campbell is playing with amazing composure. It's definitely a match of strength vs. strength.
Brian (Pomona, NJ)
does dallas have a chance at making the playoffs?
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:16 PM)
Yes, they are too talented to not have a chance, but I don't know, even with the bye week, if they can mentally get it together again. Even with Tony Romo back, he doesn't block or tackle. I'm not sure this team isn't so dysfunctional that they won't struggle to play with consistency, and because of how they played the last several weeks, they no longer have a margin of error. They almost have to win every game the rest of the season, and I don't know if they can do that.
Rich (Richmond)
Why doesn't anyone consider a team from the surprising NFC South for a wildcard?
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:19 PM)
That's probably a really good point. Certainly you could look at one of those teams, but that means if the NFC South had a wild card team, only one team from the East would have a chance. It's just hard to think that out of the Eagles, Cowboys, and Redskins, only one team would make it. But I could easily see, between TB, New Orleans, and Carolina, two teams making the playoffs. You even have to throw Atlanta into the mix. Who would have though that? We are going to have some pretty good teams in the NFC be left out of the playoff race. Before the season started, I felt that most of the talent was in the AFC.
Neil( Kent, WA)
Is Cedric Benson for real?
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:21 PM)
He was yesterday. I don't know that you can judge him yet. Playing on an offense that has not moved the ball well, it had to be encouraging. If he does it two weeks in a row, then I think we have to start taking a look at him. As many problems as Benson has had off the field, you kind of have to like his ability to hang in there and work his way through those problems.
Jeremy (NYC)
Who do you think the Giants toughest matchup would (theoretically) be come playoff time. Washington, Philly, or Carolina?
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:23 PM)
I would probably say Philly. I think McNabb is at least capable of putting up big numbers on a hot passing day. That would force the Giants into a high-scoring, up-tempo game, which they are capable of playing. That would be a fun game to watch--the Phillies' blitz package vs. the Giants' great O line. There would not be many surprises in this game as both teams know one another so well.
brian (de)
As a Miami fan I don't want to get carried away but the remaining schedule does look awfully friendly. If they can just play consistent.
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:24 PM)
I looked at their remaining schedule today, and you're right. It does seem silly to get caught up in that stuff. One thing that makes you feel good about this team is the fact that they are so disciplined and well-coached that you don't see them going through a lot of peaks and valleys. They play with good consistency every week. This won't be a team that underachieves. They aren't the most talented team in the NFL, but you'll have to beat them because they won't beat themselves.
Theodore (Philly)
Can Hightower really keep this up in a pass offense like AZ?
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:26 PM)
What people don't realize is that Ken Whisenhunt really wants offensive balance. He would love to run the football to complement the passing attack . As long as he is runnign the ball well, they will continue to stay away from being a pass-only offense. He brings explosiveness to the running game, which James did not.
JOhn M (HUntsville, Al)
If the Jags get an unexpected win, could they possibly have a huge bounceback and contest the titans for the division title?
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:29 PM)
I don't know that there has been any team that's more disappointing up to this point. There are some excuses for them. They have had so many injuries on the offensive line that it has really hurt their run game, which has been the staple of their success. It has allowed QB David Garrard to get hit a lot more. This team has been tough and reslient, but I don't see that right now, and that is the part that confuses me. I just don't know if they have it in them to make a run.
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:30 PM)
We're really fortunate tonight to have a great Monday night game between two great teams. Ironically, in our nation's capitol the night we elect the president. That's good drama, and I'm excited about the game.
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:02 PM)
Great match up tonight with the Steelers having to bounce back after last weeks dissapointing loss. Let's talk football!
Jack (DET)
Do you see the Lions winning any games this year? Is there TE a possible pickup if needed in Fantasy land since he did show up yesterday?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:03 PM)
Jack, Some team will slip up and let the Lions win a game or two this year but don't count on too many more.
Phred (Phat Pats)
Ken.. We miss you here.. Your table is still available. Who wins the game tonite?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:05 PM)
Fella's Great to hear from you, This is going to be close but I would have to give the edge to the Steelers with Fast Willie back and the Pittsburgh defense playing so well.
John (FL)
before people get too giddy about the Ravens challenging for the North, remember they haven't played anyone from the NFC East yet. those will be 4 tough games for a rookie QB.
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:06 PM)
John, your right that staretch of games will be tough and if they can get a couple of wins there , Ravens fans can start thinking post season.
Andrew (PA)
What do you think will happen in the AFC East?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:08 PM)
Andrew , That's a great question with three clbs @ 5-3 and the FINS playing well at 4-4 . This weeks match up between the Patriots and the Bills has huge implications. If the Bills can bounce back from some poor recent outings they have a chance but if they loose they might be done for the season.
Jon (Mo)
Please Help, DO I go with moore or parker tonight??
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:10 PM)
Jon, That's about the third question I have seen about Moore or parker,, I believe they split tie but might go with Willie tonight
Chris (Saratoga Springs)
Ken, another huge drop by Braylon yesterday. Fans are screaming for Brady because Anderson's pick sealed the win. Can the Browns get a wildcard? and once and for all Quinn can't catch the ball for Braylon...
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:12 PM)
Chris, It's tough when one of your better players doesn't perform in the clutch. The Browns needed that win badly as they finish the season with 3 or 4 road games. It's going to be tough for the Browns to make the post season.
Marcus (Indiana)
What do you make of the Packers? They are playing well enough to win game but seem that they can't close them. Do you see them making the playoffs?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:13 PM)
Marcus, The Packers are a good football team but have missed the finish line in a few contests this year . They won some of those close games a year ago but there is still time to win the division.
Lynn (Peoria,IL)
I have Garrard and Garcia - should I drop one of them to pick up Quinn, Flacco, Frerotte, Culpepper or sit tight? Got to win to make it to playoffs.
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:17 PM)
Lynn,I might drop Garrard and pick up Frerotte and or Flacco.
Ed( San Diego,CA)
How do you see the Chargers coming out of the bye? They should be able to overtake the Broncos in a weak AFC West right?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:18 PM)
Ed,Both of these clubs don'tt appear to want to take the lead in this weak division. The Chargers are more talented and I expect them to make a move in the second half of the season.
TC(Indy)
What are the chances of Portis posting another monster game?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:19 PM)
TC, The Steelers give up 75 yards per contest on the ground and it's going to be tough to have ahuge night vs. this defense. Don't see it -
willie parker (Pittsburgh)
Hey Ken,Would u make this trade: i would be trading me away for hightower? Also, what do u think my stats will be tonight. i'm thinking 100 yards and td.
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:21 PM)
Willie , Glad your back. I don't see you having a 100 yards as your going to split time with Moore but you'll do well tonight. Keep yourself , not hightower !
Cristian (NYC)
Is Frank Gore the biggest waste of Talent in the NFL? it seems he could do SO much better nearly anywhere else.
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:23 PM)
Cristian, It's tough that Gore (very talented player ) is on such a poor club but that's the way pro sports are. He needs to keep playing and he will land on his feet (someday) with a more promising team-
Kevin (Los Angeles)
Who is better for the rest of the season: Rosenfels or Garrard? I think it is close.
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:24 PM)
Kevin,Rosenfels has more around him to put up big numbers but how much is he going to play ??
Ken, SF
Hey Ken, got a prediction for tonight's game?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:25 PM)
What a great match up! Steelers win on the road 23 - 20
oz (oberon, ND)
should I be worried as a Lynch owner that Jackson got more carries than him last game
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:26 PM)
OZ, I don't think so as Marshawn was a bit sick and limited his carries - He is there featured back when healthy --
Billy (South Central)
Who's a better QB for the rest of the season Frerotte or Bulger?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:27 PM)
Billy, I would say Frerotte but that's a close one --
Greg Olsen (Chicago)
What will happen to me with Kyle out?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:29 PM)
Greg, He'll find you in the next few weeks or the Bears have a tougher time winning games-- Be patient !
Dillon (Northest Wisconsin)
Steelers have to worry about Jason Campbell, hes developed into a good quarterback
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:30 PM)
Dillon,Campbell has played very well under Zorn as he isn't asked to carry the load offensively. He has such a great running game (Portis) but the Steelers need to be aware that he can make effective throws at every level of the field.
Tony (Los Angeles)
Hi Ken...I've been here for hours, so please throw me a bone: I'm down 2 points heading into tonight, my opponent has all his guys in the clubhouse, and I have Santana Moss and Steelers D/ST ready to go. If you were in my position, would you hedge on Santana and drop Lance Moore (on bye) for Randle El, then play him over Santana tonight? I'm worried that the Steelers D/ST won't muster the 3 points I need to win. Please help! Thanks.
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:32 PM)
Tony , Honestly I'm not great with Fantasy questions but I believe the Steeler D will muster up the 3 points you need to win.
bob(cle)
Browns just announced that Quinn will be the starter on Thursday. Panic move?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:33 PM)
Bob, I'm not sure that's the best thing for the Browns to do but clearly that shows a bit of PANIC with that organization--
Rocco (Phoenix)
Schaub out for the near future...better pickup: Sage, Delhomme, Frerotte or Ryan? Could find space for 2 on my roster.
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:35 PM)
Rocco, Delhomme and Frerotte.
carl (emblem, WY)
I just heard Schaub is out 2-4 weeks with an mcl injury. Would Rosenfels be a smart pickup or ami I better off with Jeff Garcia
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:37 PM)
Carl,Both are decent picks but the Texans have more talent distribute the ball to.
David (Austin)
Got a play for tonight? Do you see a side or the total as most likely and which way?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:38 PM)
David, I take the Steelers innthis match up (straight up) --
Jason (Lancaster, PA)
Hey Ken! I've had Fred Taylor all season, and just can't see the point of holding onto him any longer. So, who's better for my team's depth at RB? Ray Rice, Jamaal Charles, or Derrick Ward? Thanks!
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:40 PM)
Jason,Any one of thse three may be good but I might take Ray Rice - I like the way he totes the football !! (effort) !!
ray gordon reid nashville tenn 37214
question TO KENNY MOLL AT 5.40 HI KEN MY GIANTS VS PHILLY SUNDAY
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:42 PM)
Ray,The Giants have been so solid this year but I see this being a great match up. Philly will be tough at home. If the Eagles can protect Donavan they have a good chance to up set the G-men
Mike (Toledo)
I don't get why they are starting Brady on such a short week. Makes sense to start him after Thursdays game.
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:45 PM)
Mike, Good point. Inserting another starter in a short week doesn't make much sense but at least they are at home and going against a marginal defense. It might work out as the Brwons should be able to run the ball well and and this will really help Quinn- To have played him last week or vs. the Steelers in the future would have been very tough for Brady--
Eric (Raleigh, NC)
Hi. Schaub is down. Frerotte, Cassel Thigpen and Rosenfels are available. Who Should I replace him with?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:47 PM)
Eric, Rosenfels or Frerotte-
Wes (San diego)
With Schaub out...T Edwards or Pennington?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:48 PM)
Wes, I'd go with Chad --
Ross (santa barbara)
Hey Ken! Who are you taking to lead your team if you could, Big Ben, Eli, Cutler, Rivers, Romo or Ryan?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:50 PM)
Ross, All very good players but I like BIG BEN - The next would be Romo --
The Undertaker (New York, NY)
Ken.. Do you know ANYTHING about football??
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:50 PM)
MR> UNdertaker , I do my best !!
Ryan (Ohio)
Im thinking they have givin up on the season, and they are just tryin to decide which one to keep, Quinn or Anderson. Having said that, if Edwards catches that ball yesterday, we're probably not talking about this!!
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:53 PM)
Ryan, Yes both good points but I think they are trying to jump start the team with a new face at the helm- No it wasn't D.A. fault but they are needing something positive to grasp and I believe the Browns will have their way with the Broncos this week.
steve (LA)
does brett hurt or help the Jets down the stretch in their playoff hunt?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:54 PM)
Steve,Favre is a gunslinger that will help and hurt but more of a plus for the Jets - Gives them a chance to make plays down field and improvise when a play breaks down-
Brandon (Virginia)
I think the Cowboys might stand a chance with their soon-to-be healed injuries. Am I the only one?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:56 PM)
Brandon, There arn't too many that think like you do but yes they have a chance but something has to happen REAL SOON ! Here is where the BOYS need great leadership in the locker room and I'm not sure they have it.
Garrett (Utah)
Do you like Reggie Bush to be strong for the playoffs?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:57 PM)
Garrett, I believe he'll be back but what playoffs !! Not there yet !
brandon marshall (denver)
Hey Ken, I know i had a bad game this past sunday but would u make this trade for me: moss for marshall. Help a man out.
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:58 PM)
Brandon, STick where your at . Cutler can get the ball to you and it's "IFY" up in New England !
Garrett (Utah)
I meant the fantasy playoffs!
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:59 PM)
Garrett, Sorry I don't always think in those terms !!
Chris (Saratoga Springs)
Anderson signed a 3 year deal, but I've read its more or less a one year deal. Whats the situation with that? I would say he'll be in Minny or San Fran next year.
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (6:00 PM)
Chris, The Browns don't keep both but it still cost them a bunch (don't know the specifics) but it cost them some $$
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (6:01 PM)
Fella's I'm out of here to get a workout and then go watch the game - Have a great week !!
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:02 PM)
Football Outsiders is in the house, kids. All the usual, but I want to hear what you think on two issues:1) Who's the MVP of the first half?2) Who's the LVP?Show your work, please.
Bruth.. (San Francisco)
Ken.. It is better to use a cover 2 defense against the Redskin's passing attack? or a press coverage with some SS blitzes??
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:04 PM)
Well, I'll steal Ken's question here. The Cover-2 is a great fit for handling the West Coast Offense because it makes the receiver's reads more difficult and clogs up the throwing lanes for the slants and quick outs that make up so much of the scheme. Press coverage is good to an extent, because you can throw off timing, but I don't think blitzing the Redskins and Clinton Portis will really do much. He's simply too good of a pass blocker.
Will (SF)
Do the Broncos improve from here? Marshall was frustrated...but Jay Cutler looked...LOST. You could see it in his eyes. What happened to Desean Jackson in Philly? Is he getting phased out of the offense?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:06 PM)
Marshall was also showing off his fresh new alligator arms. He's your standard really good, really whiny wide receiver. Unlike TO, he can still actually pull off the really great part. I wasn't a fan of the Broncos' playcalling yesterday. Just too much of the play action bootleg stuff. It works in moderation, not every time. Not sure about DeSean Jackson. I think it's just that Brown and Curtis are returning to 100% and that none of them are so dominant as to get a ton of targets.
Don (NYC)
MVP - Portis. Reliable back that is keeping his team in the playoff hunt.LVP - Ryan Grant. What a true disapointment.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:09 PM)
Lot of people with these exact two players. Issue with Grant, I think, is that his line is playing worse and he's lost Brett Favre. Even though Rodgers has played well, research we've done on injuries has shown that losing a quarterback affects the running game more than any other position, including running back! By the way, food for thought tonight: The Steelers are 27-13 in night games since 1995.
Cody (Tennessee)
Hey Bill, Do you think the Titans will be able to pull it off this weekend to advance to 9-0?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:09 PM)
My man Jim Schwartz vs. Rex Grossman? No chance. 9-0, no doubt.
Will J (Portland, OR)
Detroit, Chicago, or Kansas City should go after Derek Anderson, at least he'd have receivers who can catch the ball.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:10 PM)
There's a lot of issues with Cleveland's offense, much of which came out in the MNF feature I did on them two weeks ago. I think signing Stallworth to be their #2 guy was the wrong decision in every possible way.
Ernie (Fresno, CA)
MVP - Clinton Portis is on his way there if he can stay healthy and keep up the momemtum. LVP - Brad Johnson... need I say more?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:11 PM)
Ooh. That's a lot of damage to do in three games, though.By the way, what book predicted that the 2008 Cowboys would go 8-8 after they were decimated by injuries? That would be Pro Football Prospectus 2008, still available in finer bookstores everywhere.
David (Denver)
Is there any chance the refs are trying to make up for the Ed Hoculi by calling bad calls against us. There has been at least one just awful PI call against us three games in a row.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:13 PM)
I dunno, David. It's not as if there's been some great coverage displayed outside of when Champ was healthy.
Mike (Arlington VA)
Bill,MVP - Drew Brees, he's winning games and keeping his team around even though all his weapons are going down around him. LVP - Derek Anderson, Pro Bowl QB whose team has fallen out of the playoff picture and benched by Week 10. Also, what do you think of some of the matchups tonight? Seems like the Skins have an awfully weak pass rush and that is what beat the Steelers in their 2 losses this year.
Ben (Baltimore)
The Ravens are looking good. What do you think the prospects are for Ray Rice this season after his breakout game?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:14 PM)
Ravens ARE looking good. Ray Rice, I'm not sold on. He had 64 yards against Cincinnati and Oakland and 154 against Cleveland. Those are some atrocious run defenses. If he was more consistent, I'd be interested. Maybe he ends up with something like 700 yards on the year.
Glenn, Chicago
Greg Olsen's value goes down with Kyle Orton?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:18 PM)
Everyone's does. I mean...Rex Grossman won't be as bad as he's been, but...59 yards is ridiculous.
Taylor (CA)
Who do you see performing better for the rest of the year, Culpepper of Quinn?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:19 PM)
What, do you play in a scout team fantasy league or something?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:20 PM)
Hey guys -- no idea on Moss yet. If I hear something, I swear, I'll mention it.
craig (pittsburgh)
pittsburgh looks good this year. do you think willie parker is going to have a good game in his return tonight ?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:21 PM)
I think he splits time with Moore the rest of the way. Washington's rush defense is good, not great, so...maybe 17 carries, 50-60 yards?
JD (Vancouver)
MVP = Portis. Interesting to see if he can carry it through the back half. Good time for a bye week!LVP = Plaxico. Won the ring last year, thought that would help him 'get it', but alas he's showing like another head case. The Giants are showing that they can win without him.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:21 PM)
It would have been advantageous for them to have figured this out before they gave him a new contract, huh?
Matt (Moreno Valley, CA)
Who are the Chiefs going to go after in the draft since they will probably end up with a top 5 pick?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:22 PM)
I predicted in August that the Chiefs would take Matt Stafford with the first overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft. I still think that'll happen.
Demetric (Orlando)
With the talent that got drafted this year, who would have thought Matt Ryan would be the offensive Rookie of the Year?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:23 PM)
Huh? Ryan was the first skill-position player chosen. That's literally the first player you would guess would win rookie of the year most years.By the way, as good as Ryan's been, I still pick Chris Johnson as my OROY.
Roel Torres (Somerville, MA)
Man, where's Ken Moll? Bring back Ken Moll.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:23 PM)
He's working out, man! Head to the gym and ask him some questions inbetween sets.
Mike(Utica,NY)
Taking Stafford at 1 would be just as bad as when the 49ers took Smith #1.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:24 PM)
I don't know about that. He's not running exclusively out of the shotgun like Smith was. Also, prediction: Smith is backing up Philip Rivers in San Diego next year.
Jim (Denver)
Bill, David was referring to the PI call against Marshall yestderday. Nothing to do with the defense.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:25 PM)
My bad, that's right. Marshall's a lanky, aggressive guy. He gets away with some things, too, so I tend to think that those sort of calls even out on receivers in the long run.
Trent
Keep Politics out of football. I was really dissappointed that your having the Presidential candidates speak tonight on MNF
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:25 PM)
Man, but I went and rubbed John McCain's feet myself so he'd show up and everything!
Paul (Denver)
I'm not trying to defend Grossman that much, but his 59 yards came in only one half and without any preparation at all.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:26 PM)
Fair. He also threw 19 attempts for 59 yards against the DETROIT LIONS.
Jeff (Vegas)
MVP - Drew Brees... can get his team a victory no matter who is lining up next to him. (Honorable Mention - LenDale White) LVP - Larry Johnson... outside of a couple good games, I've wanted to throw my drink at him more often than not (Dishonorable Mention - Santonio Holmes and Roy Williams)
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:27 PM)
LenDale White? Really? It's not Roy Williams' fault that Detroit didn't think they could resign him and dealt him to a team where he'd have to learn a new playbook on the fly and be expected to contribute immediately.
Chris (Saratoga Springs)
Bill, terrible decision by the Browns, the fans will be dissapointed in Quinn, he was good for the Irish, but he can't stretch the field like DA. Not like Edwards was running wild but say goodbye to the deep ball. Poor play calling yesterday trying to establish the run, tough to perform when you have 3rd and 8 or 9 all day, and your best receiver can't catch the ball. Browns fans we can only look forward to next year now. Good luck Brady...
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:29 PM)
I think the quarterback has a lot less to do with this situation than the way that Phil Savage constructed this set of receivers. They desperately needed a possession receiver to fill the Jurevicius role if Jurevicius wasn't healthy, and instead they went out and got the poor man's Braylon Edwards.
Dalton
The steelesrs will roll over the deadskins!!!
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:30 PM)
I just want to point out that changing a team's name ever so slightly to denigrate them is never, ever funny. What would the Deadskins even be? Would their logo be just piles of shedded skin on the floor, like they just had a body scrub at the spa?
Todd (san francisco, ca)
Ugh, first Romo and now Orton. Who is my best bet for week 10: Derek Anderson, Jake Delhomme, or Matt Ryan?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:31 PM)
Since Derek Anderson just got benched, it's definitely not him. I like Ryan against a really, really bad New Orleans pass defense.
Glenn, Chicago
On the contrary the Redskins bring out their best against good teams, like Eagles and Cowboys earlier in the year!
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:32 PM)
This is a nice way of pointing out that they also sucked against the Rams and Browns.
Samuel (Fullerton, CA)
What should the Miami Dolphins do with the Wildcat? (ie. more passing, more often, less often, dump it) It has not been doing too well the past few games, although it is very possible that the Wildcat is the reason Miami has won.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:33 PM)
Miami's won because their defense has been way better than expected and their offensive line has done a great job of pass blocking. The Wildcat's helped, but that's got little to do with them winning or losing at this point.
Robb, Cape Cod
Roy E Williams is on the waiver wive in my league...is worth dropping Holt for?MVP-Brees....LVP Brady's bleeping knee
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:34 PM)
No. He doesn't know enough of the playbook to make it worth your while. If this were Week 14, it'd be a different story.
Glenn, Chicago
Yeah so against Steelers, on a Monday night at home, go readskins!
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:36 PM)
Reading is fundamental!!!
Marcus (Indiana)
The Packers are a good team and hang in every game they play but can't seem to close out a game. Do they make the playoff's?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:36 PM)
"Closing out a game" is a bit of a myth. With Orton's injury, they're probably the favorites to win the NFC North now.
Boise, Idaho
Do the Redskins have what it takes to put pressure on BIG BEN?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:37 PM)
Pigeons put pressure on statues, right?
Roel Torres (Somerville, MA)
How bad was Matt Millen's tenure in Detroit? What would you compare it to?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:37 PM)
It would be like if Matt Millen was Anderson Silva and the dignity of Lions fans was Chris Leben.
Samuel (Fullerton, CA)
So is that a dump it or a just use it less frequently for the Wildcat and Miami?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:39 PM)
It was always going to be a gimmicky offense predicated upon taking advantage of either slow linebackers (New England) or unprepared teams with poor gap discipline. We're now seeing teams prepared for it and handling it comfortably. I think as a once-or-twice a game play, it would still be reasonable, but you need someone who can throw to pull it off.
Bob (Indy)
In Denver Pittman and Hall to IR! In KC, Kolby to IR and Larry's out at least one more week. Rank these players in order for the rest of the year: Larry Johnson, Selvin Young, Jamaal Charles and Ryan Torain
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:40 PM)
That's too bad, Pittman was having a great year as their short-yardage back. No idea since we don't know what will happen with LJ. That's totally unrelated to football.
Matt (NJ)
Is Sidney Rice going to make any kind of impact for the rest of the year?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:41 PM)
I guess it depends on what you define impact to be. If a tree catches an eight-yard curl in the forest four times a game, is there an impact?
Daunte C. (Detroit)
So what is my role going to be now that i unretired and signed with the Lions?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:42 PM)
I suspect you will be playing a lot less of that version of Madden with you on the cover.
The Voice Of The People (Louisiana)
Why Is Their So Much Press About Dallas?? Can We get more inside coverage on real teams in the NFL besides Dallas sorry Tails???
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:42 PM)
Because lots of people like the Cowboys? Are the Cowboys a fake team? Is TO imaginary? Does that mean I can mute him?
WIll (STL)
Hey Bill, thanks for taking my questions in the past, With Orton probably out a month should I pick up Bulger or Frerotte off waivers?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:44 PM)
Uh....is neither an acceptable answer? I'd honestly just play the matchups each week and not stick with one QB.
OldSchoolPatriotFan
Has Fast Willie Parker become Fragile Willie Parker? He missed the playoffs last year and has been out most of this year with injuries.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:44 PM)
Don't let your Omar Epps-lookalike coaches run your undersized backs into the ground, kids.
The Voice Of The People (Louisiana)
Everybodys talkin about how garbage Dallas but lets get to some Real news Tampa Bays defense hasn't allowed a Single rushing touchdown yet this season but we keep talking about Tony no-Mo...
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:46 PM)
Did Kolby Smith's plunge yesterday not count?
Jimmy carter (Calhoun G.A)
former president carter here, its election time and i cant run again but if i win my game tonight it will be just as exiciting. im up 25 my opponent has big ben. i need your vote.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:46 PM)
Jimmy Carter is back!!!! I vote for you because you are my favorite chat gimmick. Big Ben ain't getting to 25.
Confused
Oh, so FWP stands for FAST Willie Parker. I thought the F was for somthing else completely........Any chance FWP puts up 100 yards and 2 TD's tonight?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:47 PM)
You sly rascal you!Um, there's a chance. It's about 2-3%, but it's a chance.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:47 PM)
And yes, so I'm telling you there's a chance.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:47 PM)
Also, update: Looks like Moss is going to play tonight.
steve (Atlanta)
out of all the QBs taking in this years draft which one do you see having the best career when it all said and done?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:48 PM)
Brian Brohm. He'll just have to leave Green Bay to get that career started.
Portland, OR
With Daunte Culpepper stepping in as Lions QB should I hit the Panic Button and trade Calvin Johnson for Brandon Marshall? Brandon has put up some real lame numbers the last few weeks.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:49 PM)
I've said it before, I'll say it again: The first rule of fantasy football is buy low, sell high. If you're making a trade and you're selling low or buying high, don't.
chad
do you think torain could be the feature back in a couple weeks if he looks like he did in preseason?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:49 PM)
I don't think Denver ever really settles on a feature back one way or another.
Samuel (Fullerton, CA)
Which teams have a better chance at the playoffs; Bears, Falcons, Dolphins, Patriots (I need this answered for a family rivalry)
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:52 PM)
Bears, Falcons, Patriots, Dolphins, in that order. What a strange family rivalry you guys have got going on there.
Paul (Denver)
How good is Forte and what's his ceiling?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:53 PM)
I wonder if Bears fans submitted the same questions about Rashaan Salaam, Curtis Enis, or Cedric Benson oh so many years ago. Assuming he's not cursed, I don't think he gets much better than this. Rookie running backs don't get significantly better -- at least at actually running the ball -- as the years go along, unless they're starting off pretty bad.
Ben (Baltimore)
If Chris McCalister is out for the season, can the Ravens' secondary survive the season and make the playoffs?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:55 PM)
They've managed to do OK with him in an ancillary role so far, although I don't understand really what's happening. It's not like Frank Walker is good.
Ryan (ohio)
do you see kellen winslow or derek anderson gettin traded on draft day? if so, what do you think they're worth? cleveland needed a running back or a possesion reciever, not dante stallworth. i guess without the infamous staph infections, they could still have jurevicius
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:56 PM)
I could see either of them getting traded, although it's hard to figure out their trade value. If I was an NFL GM, I couldn't see myself giving up more than a fourth rounder for Winslow. As for Anderson, he's got no trade value -- he's signed to a deal the Browns won't want to pay and they'll have to cut him in the offseason.
Khoi (Lawrence Ks)
What is wrong with the Cowboys?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:56 PM)
Everyone on their team is hurt. Their backups aren't good enough.
jay(san diego)
Hi Bill,1. Giants are the team to beat!repeat possible?2. Tim Hightower looked great yesterday. will he be the featured back going forward? who do think will have gthe best 2nd half of the season, hightower, slaton, ronnie brown or thomas jones?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:57 PM)
Repeat is definitely possible, they look great. As for Hightower, he was playing the Rams. I think he's a good young running back, but he's not going to compare to Ronnie Brown or Thomas Jones. I'd pick Brown.
Don (Louisiana)
Does Steve Slaton's value improve with Schaub out? I'm seeing more dump off passes in the future.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:58 PM)
Nope. QB hurt --> worse running game.
banks54 (ashville )
if ben can make it the whole year how can the coachs make it easyer on him not to get hurt
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:58 PM)
Threaten to set off a nuclear bomb if he doesn't get the ball off in three seconds or less.
Drew (Kansas City)
Being a die hard chiefs fan, do you think they are on the right track to get the franchise out of the dumps?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (7:00 PM)
Sorta. Herm's gotta go, the players have tuned him out. Cunningham too. I liked their draft this year, but they need more linemen. I'd make sure I hold onto Tamba Hali and Derrick Johnson and my guys from the '09 draft and hope I can get something for everyone else.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (7:00 PM)
Thanks everyone! Talk to you later on.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (7:01 PM)
OK, MNF !! Great game tonight. Whos is going to force their will on their opponent??
Resskinsrock
The Skins are going to dominate if Moss plays if not it is a toss up
Seth (Denver CO)
Do you see Willie Parker having a direct impact on the outcome of tonights game?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (7:02 PM)
Most definately.. When he is going strong the passing game thrives. Parker needs to put up numbers to take some of the pressure off of the Redskins' pass rush. He will definately get his share of touches, tonight.
Chris (PA)
If moss plays you think he will play play or just be limited
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (7:04 PM)
Limited. He will be used in situations. Partly to limit his action which will lessen the chance of further injury.. Also he hasn't practiced full speed and will need to be used on plays that he did practice this week..
Don (Cleveland)
Doug. Why is Quinn starting when Romeo said, just this morning that Anderson is the starter as of today?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (7:06 PM)
Good question.. with a short week for him to practice it will limit how big the playbook will be for him. With Romeo saying that Anderson is the starter and then the organization reversing the decision it looks like Savage is making coaching decisions for his head coach.
mike va
is this a close game or blowout for tonight game
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (7:07 PM)
Very close game.. It will come down to the 4th quarter, possibly who scores on a late drive.
Will J (Portland, OR)
So Schaub will be out 2-4 weeks. Rosenfels played pretty good last year, but how will this affect the Texans.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (7:10 PM)
Rosenfels needs to be held back by the coaches. He tries to make throws that he is incapable of making which often causes turnovers. I'd expect more short screens or quick slants with fewer downfield routes called. They have to get the ball to AJ on short routes and let him advance the ball after the catch.. Also expect a bigger emphasis on a rising ground game.
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:10 PM)
Sorry, forgot to change names, in the room.
Andrew (TX)
do u think the Cowboys will improve with Romo
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:11 PM)
Yes, they will definately improve. The downfield passing game will get new life and the O line won't have to block for an imobile QB.
d
I thought Bill Barnwell passed it off. Is this Doug. Who stands a better chance against this defense-Holmes or Ward? Why? Thank you!!
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:13 PM)
Sorry, d.. I forgot to change the name, in the room. I'd go with Ward. He is more physical and can compete for jump balls better than Holmes..
Big Chris
so do you think the cardinals have a complete team if tim hightiwer plays hard everyday like he did against the rams
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:14 PM)
That is one of the reasons that Arizona is becoming a player in the playoff race. Hightower takes a lot of pressure off of Warner as defenses have to honor the ground game when he is running hard.
Todd - Cincinnati OH
How many games do you expect Jag's Henderson should be suspended for trying to pluck out the eyes of Whitworth?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:17 PM)
One game.
matt (DC)
Any word on Moss? Looks like he is going to play according to local media.
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:17 PM)
I'm sure he will play but will be used in situations rather than as a full time starter.
chad
hey doug what do you expect from holmes tonight?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:19 PM)
Limited production as the Redskins have three excellent cover corners. The underneath routes (Ward's territory) will be the best bet.
john (cincy)
I can play moss or cooley in a w/t spot. Who should I go with?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:19 PM)
Cooley will get the most production. The Steelers love to blitz their linebakers, which opens up lanes for the underneath routes.
GO SEAHAWKS!!!! seattle,wa
s.moss or n. washington
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:20 PM)
Moss
Kevin (Pittsburgh)
this is fake its not live chat
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:20 PM)
Last time I checked I still had a pulse.. LOL
mike va
sup doug i had portis on my fantasy do u think he get a td tonight game
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:21 PM)
Yes, he will score.. He is their best shot at getting the ball into the end zone.
Ray (Oakland)
Who do you think will get the goal line carries between WP and Moore?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:23 PM)
I think Moore will see more action in the red zone. But a lot of his action could end up being catches, out of the backfield.
Salomon Cohen, Mexico
What do you think about Brady Quinn ? He has a lot of weapons to work with.
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:24 PM)
So did Anderson.. The "weapons" still need to catch the ball and run with the ball in their hands. The problems are more than at the QB position.
DITKA (Soldier Field)
Tough decision. I can start either Santana OR Santonio tonight. Who has the bigger game?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:25 PM)
too many questions about Santana's availability.. I'd go with Santonio..
Chris (Saratoga Springs)
Doug, any new news on Matt Jones' appeal? do you think he has a chance to beat the suspension?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:25 PM)
Haven't heard anything, yet. No, I don't see his suspension being overturned.
Will J (Portland, OR)
Do you think the Browns should've made the quarterback change? Also rumor has it that the GM Savage made the call, and not Crennel.
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:26 PM)
I think they have more problems than Anderson. I would not be surprised if Savage is the one that made that call. Not a good situation when the GM is making head coaching decisions.
Ryan (memphis)
Are the titans for real
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:27 PM)
No question they are for real. Monsters on defense and an excellent ground game. Adequate passing game.
Ray (Oakland)
This is a live chat! My question just got answered :)I played Kevin Walter this week instead of Nate W. If Nate gets a big TD tonight ...
Keith, Trinidad Co
Gotta go with Portis for MVP. LVP all the Denver running back's
matt (LA)
Mvp = Philip Rivers Lvp = Ladanian Tomlinson or Antonio Cromartie and his 15 ints. You pick
Will J (Portland, OR)
Doug, what do you think the future for VY holds in Tennessee? Unless Collins gets hurt, he's definitely starting the rest of the year.
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:29 PM)
VY is still the future for the Titans.. May be the best thing for him to sit and watch for this year. It seems to be working for Green Bay and Rodgers..
Ryan (Staten Island, Ny)
whos rookie of the year? i say chris ohnson or matt ryan
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:30 PM)
I'd go with Ryan.. Johnson has been excellent but Ryan has been a difference maker for the Falcons.
Carl (VA)
Portis has done fairly well against top-10 rush defenses so far this year. Does the trend continue tonight with another 100+ yard game?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:31 PM)
He will get 100+ yards. Washington's O line is doing a GREAT job of opening up run lanes for him and he is runnig HARD !!
Elko NV
tired of watching about dallas and that division. I know steelers are having problems in some areas. But they are still one of the best teams lets hear more about them.
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:32 PM)
I love the Steelers when Parker is healthy and running the ball.. When he is out and they have to rely on Big Ben, they become a little bit above average.
Cameron (Charlotte)
Will the Panthers go 13-3 this season?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:33 PM)
No, they will loose at least four games.
Brian (Wheeling, WV)
How many combined sacks tonight for Woodley and Harrison? They have been nasty this season...
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:34 PM)
One sack between the two of them.
Doug
Who will have a better game tonight? Portis or Parker?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:34 PM)
Portis
Nathan (MN)
Who is your pick in the NFC North?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:36 PM)
Detroit Lions..
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:36 PM)
Just kidding.. I like the Packers. Chicago will struggle with Orton out.
Darren in Ambridge , PA
Any word on Moss yet, cant decide to go with him or just play holmes instead
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:37 PM)
Rumors say he will play but I haven't heard it confirmed, yet.
john
who do you guys think will win this great match up tonite?
tim O
pittsburg over one defensive touchdown parker will run for one ben will run for one ben will hit parker on a screen in the red zone in the forth quarter 2 field goals pittsburg 34 16
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:38 PM)
I think the Skins will win, but it will be close.
Joe (MI)
hey man, dont make fun of the Lions...with Culpepper there gnna dominate...atleast till his knees give out under all that weight...lol
pooh bear (suger town)
steelers will win tonight
Craig (Seattle)
Parker v. Moore tonight? Who gets the call?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:39 PM)
I'd see Parker getting 15-20 carries.
Tom (Chicago)
Do you think Shaun Hill is legit? Will he perform better than JT O'Sullivan did?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:40 PM)
Neither one will perform unless the 49rs start to block better.
Anthony (San Diego)
Will the Chargers Defense improve under Rivera
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:41 PM)
Yes.. He will be a lot more aggressive in his schemes. We will see more blitzes and stunts up front.
Dave: Lima, Ohio
If the Steelers ever get healthy they're going to be awesome. To play like they have and not be even close to healthy (5-2) is amazing with the teams they've played.
Beaver County,PA
do you think ben will have a big game?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:42 PM)
No.. The Redskins have too much cover skills in their cornerbacks.. The ground game and short passing game will have to rise to the occasion.. Defense and ground game will win it for Pittsburgh if they do, in fact, win.
JOHN (SAN DIEGO)
HOW DO YOU THINK COOLEY WILL DO TONIGHT? I'M UP BY 4.5 POINTS AND MY OPPONENT HAS COOLEY. THINK I HAVE A CHANCE??? PLEASE ANSWER ME!
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:43 PM)
Don't understand fantasy league points but I do think Cooley will come up big, tonight. With the Steelers blitzing their linebackers a lot it will open up a lot of lanes for the TE routes.
MOSS UPDATE
Moss is active for tonight's game.
Rck (Tampa,FL)
What up DK, good evening sir. Who is the best halfback, fullback/runner in the NFL right now? You are going to say Portis right...
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:44 PM)
Don't know how you can look anywhere else. Portis is 1) elusive, 2) aggressive 3) knows how to pick up the blitz and 4) loves to carry the rock.
David (LA, CA)
Will Thomas Jones, Jacobs, or Lynch have the better rest of the season? Thanks.
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:45 PM)
Jacobs will get a lot of carries and put up the biggest numbers.
tz
cooley will have a hard time tonight since campbell is such a poor pocket quarterback ... hes gonna get manhandled by the high powered blitzing of the steelers
Vince (Cleveland)
The talk here in Cleveland is that it is a PR move by Browns. They don't want the home town crowd against them Thursday on national TV. Can we sit Braylon and start Cribbs?
Erick Fabila, Mexico City
Hey everyone... I got my kid here for MNF. WE are great fans to the STEELERS... Steelers nation worldwide. Steelers should win, not in an easy way but they should hit portis in the mouth!!!
Paul (Denver)
Moss update: thanks for reporting news from like two hours ago. Can we get real questions answered? 3- over/under on Grossman's turnovers against the Titans?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:47 PM)
Sorry Paul.. This is a football chat room, not a fantasy league football chat room.. I don't understand all those points, over/under.. Ask questions about football and I'll answer them.
Mike (Chicago)
DK - Whos sees more touches tonight - Parker or Moore?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:47 PM)
If you include receptions, I'd go with Moore.
Paul (Denver)
Vince- if that's the truth the Browns are even more messed up than I thought.
Jacob (New York, NY)
Who makes Super Bowl in AFC, Titans, Steelers, or other team?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:48 PM)
I'd see the Titans in the SB..
Ken (NY, NY)
Whats the chances that Mewelde Moore is kept under 40 yards combined tonight?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:50 PM)
Not likely.
Big Jim (Ann Arbor, MI)
Then who reps the NFC?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:51 PM)
Carolina
Bill (Pitt)
From what I've noticed, the big question is, even though Moss is going to play, will he have a Moss-type game or will they look more to someone like Thrash or Randel El?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:53 PM)
I think he will have a limited role.. They will look to Thrash, Randel El and Cooley will get a lot of looks..
Kenny (Wixom, MI)
Is Daunte Culpepper a better upgrade at QB for the Detroit Lions or a risky one? Do you think Culpepper will start this Sunday against Jaugars or will it be Stanton?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:55 PM)
risky.. He will need a lot of time to assimilate the offense and, if played too soon, will make a lot of mistakes..
Kam CA
how many sacks do the steelers get tonight?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:55 PM)
Two
HANK JR.
ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL???
Jared WV
do you think the steel D will hold portis to under 100 yards rushing tonight?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:58 PM)
No, I'd see Portis getting a little over 100.. But not a lot.
Andrew (Seattle)
Even I think the Seahawks season is done. Do you?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:59 PM)
turn out the lights the party is over.
big bryan
is rosenfels better than schaub?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:59 PM)
Nope
Matthew (Conn.)
Doug, why aren't the Bills letting Marshawn Lynch carry the load? i know he was sick, but it happened last week also.
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:00 PM)
Hello football fans everywhere! I'm Mike Tanier, and in the spirit of equal time, I will be ignoring both candidates when they speak tonight!
Jack M (Miami)
If you have to pick one QB for your fantasy team, who would it be: B.Quinn, S. Rosenfels or J.Flacco ?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (8:00 PM)
He hasn't been hitting the holes hard and finishing his runs off like he did at the beginning of the season. He may be wearing down (he has just finished playing what would be close to a full college season).. Needs to get a second wind.
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (8:01 PM)
Time is up.. thanks for the questions.. Should be a great game, tonight..
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:01 PM)
If I need to bridge a week or two, I would try Sage, though he has to face the Ravens this week. If I need insurance throughout the season, I would take Flacco, who should have the starting job for the rest of the year.
Jon (Baltimore, MD)
Hey Mike all these other guys are down on Santana Moss, what's your opinion of him considering the injury?
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:02 PM)
In general I don't like playing WRs against the Steelers if I can afford not to.
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:02 PM)
Also, I don't have up to the minute on Santana...
Mike (Toledo)
I don't get the Browns? I mean why start a new quarterback in such a short week? The only reason I can think of is that Denver's defense is less than good. But really?! It seems better for both The Browns organization and Quinn to let him start after Thursday. That will give him a long week to prepare for Buffalo.
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:04 PM)
Trent Dilfer is looking over my shoulder as I type this. I don't feel comfortable answering. Seriously, what Dilfer said is correct: this is a panic button move made at the wrong time for the wrong reasons.
Matthew (Conn.)
Mike, why aren't the Bills letting Marshawn Lynch carry the load? i know he was sick, but it also happened last week.
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:06 PM)
He has made some poor decisions with the ball. I saw him give up on the four yard run up the middle, bounce outside in search of the 20-yarder, and get stuffed a few times against the Jets. They need him to keep his nose in the pile. Fred Jackson actually does a better job of that. I think Lynch will figure it out, but it is a problem for their offense now because they need 2nd-and-6, not 2nd-and-11
Zach Rastall (Marinette, WI)
Are you a supporter of Brett Favre 4 President? I know I am.
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:07 PM)
I can't imagine Kellen Clemens one sack away from the white house.
Mike (Chicago)
Mike: Who's your pick to go with tonight - Moore or Parker?
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:08 PM)
It is my understanding that Parker will play and get most of the carries. I would expect him to get the goalline work too.
Mike (Toledo)
Tell Dilfer that Cleveland was very stupid to get rid of him. Carthon is a Moron. Any preditions for the Browns on Thursday night?
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:08 PM)
Record low ratings.
andrew , long island,ny
hey mike, how do u see the dolphins finishing the season?
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:10 PM)
Noodling around .500. They don't have the secondary to hang with really good passing teams. Lucky for them that they don't face many of those. I do think the clock is running out on a lot of their trickery on offense. The league is figuring them out, and they'll have to fight for 17 points per game in the 2nd half of the year.
JASON JACKSON
Its 4th down and goal at the 10 yard line with 1 second left, need a TD and youre the Detroit Lions, what play do you call against tennessee's defense?
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:11 PM)
That play the Bucs ran where the RB takes the handoff, runs up the middle, but tosses the ball into the corner of the endzone to Calvin Johnson. It would be returned 90 yards for a Pick 6.
Jason (Omaha)
Considering Pittman is on IR for the rest of the season who do you like best in Denver? Torain or Selvin Young?
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:12 PM)
I want to see what Torrain can do. Given the option, I would avoid the RB situation there.
Kevin (Phoenix)
Mike, who will be the better option in my fantasy playoffs (weeks 14-16): Chris Johnson or Ronnie Brown (PPR)?
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:13 PM)
Johnson if you get good yardage bonuses. Brown will get more TDs.
Billy (Lufkin, Tx)
Let's play Odd's Makers, what percentage do you have on Portis getting 2,000 yards?
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:15 PM)
Not very good. The Redskins face too many solid run defenses. He has a decent chance of becoming the MVP though
Sam (Middletown CT)
Is Santana playing or isn't he!
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:15 PM)
This is the question of the night. I still have no confirmation.
Ron (Kalamazoo, MI)
When Romo went down tragically with his busted little finger I immediatley went out and pulled 2 trades to secure Peyton Manning. Coming up on the trade deadline in my FF league 11/12 what is Romo worth? I may just be stuck with him and the now hopelessy cowboys!
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:16 PM)
Try moving Manning. The Cowboys have some weakling opponents coming up, and Romo will come out throwing like mad to all of those receivers.
Marcus
SANTANA IS PLAYING!ITS CONFIRMED
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:16 PM)
Thanks Marcus.
Hunter (Kansas City)
Mike, whos a better choice at RB E. James or R. Brown?
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:17 PM)
Edge is on the slow boat to Shaun Alexanderville. Go with Ronnie Brown.
Jon (Reisterstown, MD)
Seriously Santana Moss or Santonio Holmes tonight! Time is of the essence!!
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:17 PM)
I would take Holmes.
Mike (Phoenix, AZ)
Assuming Moss plays tonight, do I start Moss or Parker in my w/r position?
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:18 PM)
Parker
Nick (Houstan, TX)
San Diego def or Buffalo Bills Def? which one for the rest of the year?
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:20 PM)
Chargers still have 2 games against the Chiefs, 1 against Oakland, 1 against the turnover happy Broncos. That;s a lot of offensive ineptitude to fatten up on.
john morris(lisbon ohio)
do you think the rumors around pittsburg are true that kordell stewart has been asked to come for a tryout as a possible wideout and do you think he can still contribute?
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:20 PM)
I haven't heard that rumor. I find it hysterical.
Jason (Omaha)
Tell everyone per Rotowire: Moss will probably be on a limited snap count, but he's still worth using over any of the other Redskins wideouts.
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:21 PM)
Right, so I would rather take my chances with a Steelers player who will get more snaps.
Jon (Baltimore, MD)
I have to cheer for the Steelers tonight because of stupid Fantasy football even though I am a Ravens fan. What is the answer?!? Just don't play fantasy football??
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:22 PM)
Cheer for your favorite team. Never invest so much $$$ in fantasy that it causes a conflict of rooting interest. And never take a defense or QB from a hated rival of your team!
Dave (Pittsburgh)
That Kordell Stuart rumor might have been one of the dumbest things I've ever read on here. How old is he now?
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:23 PM)
He just celebrated his 36th birthday. He's almost Galloway old.
Nathan (MN)
what is the percentage that another QB catches a TD? and who would you like it to be? be great to see ferrotte or warner attempting to out run dbs.
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:24 PM)
I can see Cassel catching one, what with all the junk the Pats run. Drew Brees would also be on the list. Ryan Fitz from Ocho Cinquo.
Jim, Virginia
Should I start Moore, Washington, or Ward tonight in my W/R position?
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:25 PM)
So many Steelers! I would go with Ward.
Don (LA)
Calvin Johnson and Shaun McDonald get an upgrade with Culpepper throwing?
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:26 PM)
Orlavsky was playing pretty well, and at least had a full camp in the system. I really don't know who Daunte Culpepper is at this point in his career.
Phil (Vegas)
Washington or MOss tonight?
Dan
Moore or Moss? All I need is 5 points
Phil (Vegas)
You like Washington or Moss tonight?
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:27 PM)
I would avoid Moss if he is really on some "limited play" basis. It sounds like he could tighten up midway thru the 1st quarter!
jerry ,west terre haute,indiana
what team defense should i play for the rest of the season ravens or patriots
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:27 PM)
RAVENS
Arthur (Colorado)
I have rookies like DeShaun Jackson, Eddie Royal, Steve Slaton, and Tim Hightower with only one spot for them, so who should it be?
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:29 PM)
Only one of those guys is a potential franchise RB. Slaton is more of a change up guy who is getting the ball a lot. Hightower is the real deal, the kind of back who doesn't blow you away but hits every hole and ends up with 120 yards per week. Keep him.
Jeraud: Valdosta, Ga
The Browns got destroyed by the Ravens this weekend and finally named Brady Quinn as the starter was this a good idea or should they done this alot sooner
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:30 PM)
That's the thing, they should have done it sooner (like a month ago) or later (after the Thursday night game when Quinn would have a full practice week to prepare).
Steiny (NYC)
If the season ended today who would win ROY?
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:30 PM)
Matt Ryan.
Leon (Miami, Fl)
Start Moore or Parker???
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:30 PM)
Parker.
Sean (Buffalo, NY)
What ever happened to George Seifert? WHy hasn't he been part of any coaching vacancy conversation's? Everyone else from the late great Bill Walsh's staff are still making noise.
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:31 PM)
Dude's pretty old, right?
Jason: Corning, NY
How can you say Slaton is a change of pace back? He looks like he is on the verge of being the next B. Westbrook, the double threat.
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:33 PM)
Seifert is 68. Anyway, Slaton shows a lot of promise, but if you take 10% off Brian Westbrook, you have a change-of-pace back. Someone mentioned Ron Rice a few minutes ago as another Westbrook. Every small back who can catch and break tackles isn't the next Westbrook or MJD. Some wind up the next Mewelde Moore. I think Slaton is good but Hightower is the kind of guy you stick in the backfield and give the ball to 25 times.
Gary (Nebraska)
Mike, i have the Packers and Baltimore Def. should i trade one and try to get someone, or keep rotating them week by week?
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:34 PM)
I would start the Ravens every week. Do defenses have a lot of trade value in your league? It's not like someone can be in a bind. "OMG, my whole defense is hurt, I have to make a trade fast!" But if you can get a modest upgrade, make the move.
Bob Cville Va
Which QB for the rest of the year: Garrad, Rosenfel, Shaun Hill, or Quinn.
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:35 PM)
I will leave that one up to the readers.
The Hulkster
Top 3 offenses for the fantasy playoffs (weeks 14-16). Top 3 defenses?
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:36 PM)
I don't know if I have 3. I see the Colts playing the Brngals and Lions 2 of those weeks, and unlike past years, they will actually be playing for something
John TEXAS
WHO U THANK IS GOING TO WIN TONIGHT WHO U GOING FOR?
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:37 PM)
I think the Redskins will win a close game
Harold (Denver)
What are your thoughts on Torain? Will he take the job, or will he fall into the usual RB by committee in Denver?
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:39 PM)
Committee. I really don't have scouting on him, so I am just projecting based on what always happens in Denver. Also, keep in mind how pass oriented they have become. Young or Torrain could be the featured back and end the game with 15 carries.
KCJay255
Question? How in the world does Chris Carter even think about comparing Jeff George to Ben Roethlisberger? Iam totally at a loss for words.....Heck Ryan Leaf could throw the ball deep, I didn't think Chris Carter was smoking that stuff anymore.
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:39 PM)
Wow I didn't hear that. George, for the record, was one of the most physically gifted QBs I ever saw.
Arthur (Colorado)
Bob, none of those guys are gonna help you win. You probably have a better shot with Grossman. This week Quinn will get you about 20 points but keep your eyes open for a new QB after this week.
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:41 PM)
I would use Garrard and hope to pick up big points elsewhere in the lineup
David (Oxofrd, Mississippi)
Rank these RBs for week 10 only:Torain, McClain, Rice, McFadden, BJGE, or Jamal Charles?I need a bye week replacement for Barber. Thanks!!!
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:42 PM)
Charles, then McLean because I think the Ravens will run off tackle a million times. McFadden at the bottom because his injury status is iffy. BJGE, is that a cell phone company? Oh that kid from New England. Stay away from him.
Robbie O Haddon twp NJ
do you think Clinton P. Will have a good running game against this type of defense
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:43 PM)
If Portis is fully healthy he should do fine. The Steelers run a very disciplined 3-4 and they don't give up many yards, but Portis picks and slides so well. Though he was just stuffed on 3rd and 2/
MIKE SINGLETARY (SF)
Can I keep my pants on this week?
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:44 PM)
Send them to Canton.
Randy (Baltimore)
Would you trade Boldin for Housh and Hightower in a keeper league?
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:44 PM)
Yes. I want Hightower in a keeper league. And Hooch catches so many little passes that he keeps the chaine moving.
Golf Grouch (Los Angeles, CA)
Doesn't it annoy you when people write in a question posing as an NFL player? I propose ignoring these posers! It may have been funny the 1st time, but it has gotten really old really quick. Anyway, who's a better Romo replacement, Flacco or Frerotte? Thanks.
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:46 PM)
I think the Packers pass defense is tightening, so I would grab Flacco against the Texans. The "poser" posts are great when they are funny but easy to ignore when they are not.
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
Everyone in the world knew the skins were going to run it there on 3rd and 2. Playaction would have killed the Steelers. Even the CB's weren't even lined up on the WR's...
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:47 PM)
Play action might have killed Campbell. It was a predictable call, but the best way to get 3rd-and-short is to run most of the time.
NFL PLAYER
Doesn't it annoy you when people write in a question posing as a golf grouch? Just curious.
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:47 PM)
It's good when a grouch admits he's a grouch.
Robbie O Haddon twp NJ
Do you think the steelers are cocky for that onside kick?
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:49 PM)
It is rarely about "cocky". It is usually a film thing where they see the first line of blockers for the other team rushing back to get in position to block and not verifying that the kick is deep. If the ST coach sees that a few times on film, he looks for an opportunity to spring the onsides.
Hunter (Ks)
Is Hester becoming the next Dante Hall?
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:51 PM)
Sorry for making you wait on the Hester question. You know, he's a top return man of course, and he's kind of a garden variety DeeptThreat #2 WR. I am surprised what a good blocker he is, and he can do enough little things to be a decent WR. He's not a 70-catch guy. He is like Hall mixed with Bernard Berrian, but with brain cramps.
Dave (Toms River)
Who is worth dropping Ronnie Brown or Steve Slaton? And would picking up Tim Hightower for one of them be a good idea?
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:52 PM)
I don't know about dropping a steady guy like Brown. I think Hightower will do more in the 2nd half of the year than Brown
manny g (glendale az)
hoW ABOUT THEME AZ CARDINALS QUIT TALKING ABOUT THEME DOWN IN LAST PLACE COWBOYS ALL U GUYS AT ESPN GIVE AZ CARDS SOME LOVE
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:52 PM)
I Heart Adrian Wilson.
jacob (new castle)
is wwe fake
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:53 PM)
Not at all. My kid plays it all the time. He shakes the controller around and the guys on the screen move. I got my wife wwe fit and she loves it.
O.B. (Autryville, NC)
Mr Tanier, give me your top 3 QB's all time (passing era)?
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:54 PM)
Montana. Elway. Ummmmm... Manning.
jacob (new castle)
come on im 13 yrs old and everyone said wwe is fake i dont think so
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:54 PM)
Do your parents know you visit chat rooms?
Mark (Orange County)
Deangelo or Jonathan Stewart the rest of the year, who gets the bulk load?
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:55 PM)
Total rotation. I would go with DAngelo for more all purpose yards.
Robbie O Haddon twp NJ
I have a answer for the hunter im a redskins and chiefs fan so i saw what dante could do but i think as Hester becomes more of a veteran he will become better than hall.
tommy c
PLEASE PLEASE tell someone at ESPN that the VOLUME on the broadcast is totally screwed up!!!!! ALL you hear is the CROWD--NO announcers can be heard!!!! Tell some dumbass at the betwork technical side PLEASE!!!!
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:56 PM)
Oh. I thought they hired Bryan Gumbell and he was just being vewy vewy quiet.
jacob (new castle)
yes they told me to come here because they say its fake and i dont believe them
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:58 PM)
Jacob, I hate to break this to you, but wrestling is fake. Always has been. A tradition dating back well over 50 years. The two wrestlers know who is supposed to win and the "storyline", if one of them is supposed to cheat or something. In the ring, they are well trained stunt men who know each other's moves and can do punches and flips without getting seriously hurt. I hope this doesn't shake your entire belief system.
Robbie O Haddon twp NJ
Are the chiefs still looking at Dante Culpepper ?
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:58 PM)
They are looking at him warming up in Detroit.
Annoyed
Can someone please shut Tony up? His chatter is killing me.... don't need him to point out that the shot of D.C. includes iconic images....
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (8:59 PM)
Geez, one guy can't hear. The other hears too much.
Rick (NYC)
quit answerin robbie O and help me with a real Fantasy question!! QB situation!! Ortons out and I have Big Ben as my other QB. Would you go pick up Quinn as a longshot big time starter, I dont trust Big Ben anymore with his schedule! How bout Thigpen...better option? Any other suggestions?
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (9:00 PM)
I don't like Thigpen. I guess Quinn is decent because the receiving corps is good. I would try to live with Big Ben when he isn't facing a top defense.
j_powell
I can enjoy all of the pondits. but let's just enjoy football tonight. minus half time, because I don't fault the candidates getting TV time just b4 pool day. but the stats on when the Skins win vs when a candidate wins is against the football Gods. Lets enjoy Football Tonight.
Mike Tanier, Football Outsiders (9:02 PM)
On that note, I am off to really watch this game and work on my Walkthrough column for Football Outsiders. See you all soon!!!
Buzzmaster (9:03 PM)
Thanks, Mike. That's my cue to send this train off the rails. I mean, enjoy some football with you all.

I would like to bring up a mistake in the MB this morning. It seems you said to a different Jay that it's too early to say anything about the 3-0 Lakers. It is my understanding that rushing to judgment is a staple of Sportsnation in general. You are not the Buzz I used to know.
Buzzmaster (9:06 PM)
Duly noted. Are we rushing to judgment on the Redskins leading this game yet?
Nathan (MN)
I LOVE ESPN (cheap plug)
Joe
Hey Buzz got any good jokes lately?
Buzzmaster (9:07 PM)
Let me cut to the punch line: Oakland Raiders.
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
either that, buzz, or mark is your subconcious alter ego/foil, like that movie or that tv show.
Tom (Chicago)
Yahoo fantasy sports suck. All 3 of my FFL leagues moved off there years ago.
Tom (Chicago)
I called the game as over when Suisham made his first field goal. The Steelers have no chance...
Buzzmaster (9:08 PM)
Now that's an early call. You must have some excellent exit polling.
Jay (NY)
Yes and I have already admitted defeat as I need Ben to score 15 points and he is on pace for negative 60.
Tom (Chicago)
It was the only part of the game I saw. I'm watching Prison Break right now.
Jim Atlanta, GA
Why don't they show coin flips live anymore? What was the exact result? Heads/Tails? Who won?
Buzzmaster (9:09 PM)
Someone has a gambling problem.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
What's the punt count?
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
I liked the onside kick. The skins offense is never good starting out. You might as well try it...
Zach Rastall (Marinette, WI)
I'm sure your all glad that Zach has arrived!
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
i don't know what sam waterston's Q rating is for 'trustability', but its gotta be really high.
Buzzmaster (9:10 PM)
Six points isn't exactly a juggernaut, but what do you all think of Jason Campbell? He never seems to get included in the Roethlisberger-Rivers-Cutler-Manning debates.
Robert (North Carolina)
I have Rothy. My opponent Nate Washington. Can Ben throw to someone that isn't him or the redskins. Is that too much to ask? (P.S. I'm going to copy and paste this message as i feel I will need to send it again periodically).
Bob (Jackson NJ)
Why are the Skins wearing their "away" uniforms?
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
Ephraim is glad Zach has arrived (1 minute ago)
Tom (Chicago)
I'm not really sure if Cutler belongs in that group anymore either. He's very inconsistent. Two of those guys are SB winners, and Rivers has been pretty close.
Jay (NY)
Gotta like that Campbell hasn't thrown an INT this year yet.
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
I predict campbells first two picks occur tonight. One at 7:46 in the 2nd, and one at 4:35 in the 4th...
Vince (Philadelphia, PA)
Why doesn't ESPN put this on ESPN 360? I'm sorry...but what is the problem with that?
MT (CA)
Not sold on Campbell...he just doesn't really inspire confidence...
MT (CA)
Wow...getting real specific there Robert! =p
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
So what's the Flacco report?
Tom (Chicago)
I don't get ESPN360 because Comcast sucks.
Jay (NY)
Prison Break is the most ridiculous show on television, I can't watch anymore. It's less believable than Lost and they just moved an insland with a lever in what looks like the North Pole.
Matt (Toronto)
Why the heck didn't the Steelers do something about the punting situation? Berger clearly can't kick it more than 30 yards!
Buzzmaster (9:14 PM)
People just don't know the value of punting. I mean. we do in this chat, clearly. But other people.
mike (az)
im not campbell supporter buts lets not forget he has had what 4 offensive cordinators in 4 years or so...
Jay (NY)
An insland is also much harder to move than an island.
cj boca raron florida
skins suck cant move ball they should be up 21 blowing game
Buzzmaster (9:16 PM)
Your eloquence is exceeded only by your punctuation.
Buzzmaster (9:16 PM)
But you may have a point as the Redskins fail on third down again.
Jay (NY)
I'm going to have a kid and make him kick 3 hours a day. I'm going to create the Tiger Woods of punting. Just wait.
MT (CA)
You started the punt count already Buzz?
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Steelers must be the most injured team in the NFL, christ, even the Punter is hurt and he only kicks a ball.
Tom (Chicago)
I forgot that the SNL presidential bash is on. Always good for some laughs.
Robert (North Carolina)
Am I right that BigBen and Jason Campbell have the same number of completions to Redskins, ONE!
Tom (Chicago)
How come all the crazy people come from Florida?
MT (CA)
Not a lot of offense in this game huh?
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
sweet. or the jay marinovich of punting, it's a thin line.
Buzzmaster (9:17 PM)
Wasn't that Todd Marinovich?
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Jay, Tiger was Tiger because his name was Tiger, you need to give your punting prodigy a name of the ages as well.
Buzzmaster (9:18 PM)
Coffin
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
Eurika! Is that school still around? And why don't we use Eurika much anymore? Is it because we just cuss instead?
MT (CA)
Ooh...good punt, good punt!! (That one's for you Buzz!)
cj boca
i didnt know this is english class idiot bet you got a 40k job and burried i read people for a living
Buzzmaster (9:20 PM)
Um, what?
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Excellent, Coffin, the punter. Well done Buzz.
Jay (NY)
There's also a fine line between genius and insanity but I typically spend my time on one side.
MT (CA)
Almost through the 1st quarter, and each team has 2 first downs only...(but I suppose they could be worse and be the Raiders...)
Tom (Chicago)
Robert, we never used eurika because it's not a word. However, I still like to throw in a Eureka! every now and then.
MT (CA)
It's "eureka"...yes, people need to stop cursing so much...
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
Or, maybe he'll end up like that guy from...where was it, colorado? that wanted to be the punter so bad he stabbed the starting punter?
Matt (Toronto)
Would be great if someone could hang on to one of these passes...
Tom (Chicago)
Steeltoe? Leadfoot?
Jay (NY)
I'm naming my kid Scientific Mapp...what? that was taken?
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
Eurika! The Steelers O is getting killed!
Robert (North Carolina)
That's what'll make this game watchable...ALCOHOL!
Jay (NY)
40K??!!! Whoa calm your expectations, that's twice as much as the reality.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Cj, reading people like brail? ... sounds like you have an awesome job.
Buzzmaster (9:22 PM)
And that'll wrap up the first quarter. Redskins 6, Steelers 0. Feel the excitement.
Tom (Chicago)
I currently make negative dollars a year. That's what happens when you're in grad school.
Robert (North Carolina)
How do I get a job dropping passes. I feel confident I could do it for half what they make. I may screw up and catch one but they seem forgiving.
Jay (NY)
Robert, if you'd like I'll be your father and will help you drop passes for 3 hours a day.
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
you can also use the classic 'holy cow!' or the frenchy 'voila!', but i prefer to use, exclusively, 'shazzam!'
Tom (Chicago)
Alcohol makes baseball watchable, but it enhances football. Time for a Stella.
Corey(Kiowa, Colorado)
Do you know who holds the record for most interceptions by a defensive lineman?
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
This chat got pretty creepy....
Matt (Toronto)
Awesome game. The two big plays so far: miserable attempted onside kick and a ball that bounced off Max Starks' fat butt. Very impressive.
Buzzmaster (9:25 PM)
Jason Campbell's yellow cleats may be the most exciting part of the night.
Ryan (New Orleans)
There is a direct correllation between saying shazaam and lightning stikes
Tom (Chicago)
I also like jumpin jehosaphat!
Jay (NY)
You could do the Funky Fingers Productions move and break out the.....where is it? hmmm...BAM!!!!
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
I think the fact that Shaun Alexander is on a team is pretty exciting as well.
Patrick (Baltimore)
Buzz, I got a D on my test I was studying for last Monday. Perhaps I should just watch more MNF next time and study less.
Buzzmaster (9:26 PM)
Was it a test on Joe Flacco?
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
I'm betting this chat is always creepy. It just depends on the level of creepiness.
Robert (North Carolina)
You're forgetting the always classy "Zowie!"
Matt (Toronto)
Time for some wildcat formation with Polamalu behind centre!
jp
i think redskins better get more points than that on pitts or ill be over soon
Patrick (Baltimore)
Punt Tally anyone?
Patrick (Baltimore)
Signals and Systems...and no, not Cam Cameron's Signals and Systems. If it was that, perhaps I had a standing chance.
Buzzmaster (9:27 PM)
And ... another punt coming.
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
i feel like 'shazzam!' is best said in a jim nabors style southern accent.
Jay (NY)
Patrick way to throw off the curve for the rest of Sportsnation. Jerk.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Joe Flacco didn't study on Monday night, now he's in the NFL!
Moose (DC)
Why does ESPN take up 15% of the screen with a useless bar at the bottom of the screen. That has to be the stupidest thing ever
Tom (Chicago)
Dy-no-mite!
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
Any chance Fletcher actually makes a pro bowl this year?
Buzzmaster (9:29 PM)
A decent chance, but Fletch has a better chance.
MS
Ben is pathetic today. 1/9???
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
yea, way to stand out from the crowd with the info bar, ESPN. thank god no one else does that.
Matt (Toronto)
Here's a thought: On 3rd and 2, run the freakin ball! Or keep using the end-around fake, triple pumpfake dump pass thing they just tried...
David (Fort Myers, FL)
Wow. A defensive special. Can you say low scoring...so much for all the high score blowout trash talk on other threads. We have a slugfest.
Ryan (New Orleans)
Fletch is a basketball goon. No room for him in Goodell's NFL
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
I saw Fletch Lives in the theather. My friends and I were the only people in there...
Buzzmaster (9:31 PM)
I could go for a steak sandwich. And a steak sandwich.
strebman
Go back to Steelers football lineup and run it down their throats
Robert (North Carolina)
Slug-fest is how that should read.
jp pittsgurg
wow what a game lets see how many times they punt
Buzzmaster (9:32 PM)
Now you're getting the hang of this.
David (Ft Myers,FL)
Fletcher should make the Pro Bowl. But that last play was nearly a fumble..but he ran off to celebrate. Not sure how it was ruled though.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
"its all ball bearings these days"
Phil Fulmer (knoxville, TN)
Anyone Jerry Jones cell phone #??
Mississippi
There is no way Portis can gain more than 100 yds
Buzzmaster (9:33 PM)
Mississippi and its six electoral votes have weighed in against Portis.
Matt (Toronto)
I hope for the sake of your country that the quality of this game is not an predictor of your next administration...
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
Sorry I am late Buzz- was at the SU Exhibition bball game---we love us some college BBall here in orangetown
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
wha? where? he didn't throw it away? wha??? how did that happen? Oh, yeah, that's right, I saw that for 4 years at Auburn. Nevermind...
Jay (NY)
Mark my words...Bill Cowher will coach the Cowboys next year.
Tom (Chicago)
I just saw a commercial for ER that says Anthony Edwards is coming back. I'm pretty sure he died in the show years ago.
Buzzmaster (9:34 PM)
Goose dies in everything.
Patrick (Baltimore)
I think Navy's Triple Option could muster some yards in this game.
Robert (North Carolina)
The huddle is miked up "Ok, on 3 I'll run back and if they fail to sack me, we'll throw it 3 times to no particular person. Careful WRs don't catch it. That way we can punt it and go back to the sidelines and look perplexed. Break!"
Matt (Toronto)
Wow, smart penalty there. The Anthony Smith era keeps getting better and better.
Jay (NY)
I love how Mississippi only has one internet connection.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
I hope for the sake of Canada it isn't cold as hell.... oh wait....
David (Ft. Myers, FL)
I am not sure the Steelers can run it down their throats. These defenses have the clamps on tight.
Ryan (New Orleans)
Jerry Jones doesn't use phones. He has mind powers.
Ryan (New Orleans)
Back off, Canada. You dissolve your government every other day now.
Pete (NC)
What is it with MNF and punting?
Chris (Huntsville, AL)
Anyone reminded of last year's MNF with the Steelers and Dolphins after watching these two high powered offenses?
pam
we thought anthony edwards died too. someone also said he just left show...who knows
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
I'd just like to rub it in the face of Iowa that Alabama has more electoral votes!
David (Ft Myers, FL)
Jerry Jones cell # is 1-800-Buy A Win.
Buzzmaster (9:36 PM)
Pass interference! Now things are getting exciting.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
the steelers will score a goal on this drive......gooooaaaalll
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Goodness gracious, goose is a great ball of fire
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
pete, on average most games have 5 or more punts.... i made that up but it sounds right
Jay (NY)
I propose widening the field by 20 yards for MNF. Yeah or Nay?
Dan, Easthampton
Anthony Edwards character died on ER a few years ago. His return will be in flashbacks only.
Buzzmaster (9:38 PM)
Apparently the Steelers figure if they're going to throw incompletions, they might as well throw them 35 yards downfield.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Joe Flacco would have caught that.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
80% of stats are made up on the spot
Jay (NY)
I'd rather call 1-800-Mix-Alot
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
i think that's 1-800-can't-buy-a-win
Pete (NC)
Holmes just pulled a Braylon on that play. Right threw the hands.
Matt (Toronto)
It was actually 63 degrees today...quite nice!
Buzzmaster (9:39 PM)
Good God, that's like 150 degrees farenheit.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
1-800-this-is-getting-old
Matt (Toronto)
Ben can throw an interception MUCH farther than Berger can punt.
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
Anyone still want to say how great Ben Roethisberger is?
Chris (Huntsville, AL)
Who cares about the game? Let's talk about the player's shoes.
Buzzmaster (9:40 PM)
Actually, it seems we've moved to primetime soap opera mortality. Although I'm not sure how.
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
seriously, ben is just closing his eyes and chucking it. niiiiiice.
Patrick (Baltimore)
Joe Flacco can do it all. Enough Said.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Matt, your government lies to you about the weather to keep you complacent. And keep your frosty hands off the Bills!
Patrick (Baltimore)
Shoes? I think the commercials are more entertaining then the football game.
David (Ft. Myers, FL)
Steelers might be on to something. Chuck it deep and hope you get lucky. Either a good catch, penalty, whatever. The penalty is more offense than all their other plays tonight.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
A COMPLETION, WHERES THE METER??
Matt (Toronto)
Ben's 1 of 11, but really about 5 of those were drops plus the deflection INT wasn't really his fault. His stats look worse than he's actually played. Although I wouldn't say he's been good or anything.
Buzzmaster (9:42 PM)
But they did finally convert a third down.
Charlie (Mississippi)
Wah. A completion from Ben !
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Jason Taylor is harnessing all of his wmind power to melt the steelers defence.
Buzzmaster (9:42 PM)
Defence? Are you a Canadian in disguise?
John (Arlington, TX)
Carlos Rogers shoes are soccer shoes. They are the nike vapors
Brendan (Dayton, OH)
Ben would be a lot better with a competent offensive coordinator and an O-line that could pick up a blitz.
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
is that wind power or mind power? or is wmind power some kind of unstoppable combination of wind and mind power?
Mike (Lexington, KY)
6-0 what inning are we in
T.O. (In the Endzone)
Throw me the damn ball!
Anthony (Seymour, CT)
Skins will lose, it's a law of football. If you don't capitalize in a defensive struggle early....
Matt (Toronto)
The government is controlling the temperature guage in my car??? Oh dear...
Buzzmaster (9:44 PM)
6-3 Nationals over the Pirates.
Keith - VA
The Shoes are Nike Vapor's - they are the premier soccer cleat by Nike. Perhaps Rogers was confused ordering 'football' cleats...
Mike (Lexington, KY)
ggggooooooaaaaalolololo
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
These high potent offenses are lighting up that scoreboard.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Buzz, I take serious offense to that. I do read the BBC, though, so it rubs off... I guess.
Ryan (New Orleans)
That's an awful lot of runs you're giving the Pirates there.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Edphraim, you don't even want to know what's going on in Jason Taylor's mind.
Buzzmaster (9:45 PM)
Whatever it is, it's accompanied by a nice tango beat.
Jon (Champaign IL)
Good thing I took the under on this game...
Jason: (Altoona, Pa)
Did anyone see Mewelde open in the slot on 3rd when Ben took the sack????
David (Ft. Myers, FL)
The penalty nets a field goal...the scoring barrage is about to start!
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
Will anyone score a TD tonight? I'm guessing it's going to come on the interception I predicted to occur on this next drive. What did I say? 7:45?
Ray (Philly)
Why do teams decide on 3rd and short to pass? The redskins dropped into prevent on the last play but the steelers were too busy throwing bombs to notice
Pete (NC)
Just a question, why is it called a field goal? Anyone know?
Buzzmaster (9:46 PM)
Because the goal used to be on the field? Just a guess.
David (Ft. Myers, FL)
The Skins did capitalize...they got six points. In a game like this, it is like two touchdowns.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Jason Taylor is also plotting Kristi Yamaguchi's down fall... to said tango beat.
Robert (North Carolina)
I believe both teams have a better chance at a first down if they fumble it forward and recover it.
Ryan (New Orleans)
Jason Taylor - evil mastermind?
Anne (DC)
Alright, i need Santana Moss to score more than Suisham to win in FF this week.. chances are looking pretty low at this point
samot
In a game like this you need No-doze
Tom (Chicago)
I thought Kristi Yamaguchi moved to California with her husband that plays for the Mighty Ducks.
Buzzmaster (9:48 PM)
Anthony Edwards?
Matt (Toronto)
Jason Campbell is "judicious with the football"??? Maybe he should be running for office!
Dillon (Nashville,TN)
how can a QB be good all season and then have a game like this?
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
look, if pittsburgh's punter can't go, we may get treated to a rugby-style kick or the rare quick kick.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
you have to admit these are 2 of the best defenses in th NFl....did you expect a shootout
Buzzmaster (9:49 PM)
I expect traffic at rush hour. But you can bet I'm still going to complain about it.
Ryan (New Orleans)
Wait, Yamaguchi is the evil mastermind?
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
They should use Harrison as the punter, he's good at long snapping and other special team skills.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
BigBen, almost got picked.
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
Yes Big Ben is so elite....
samot
not a shootout just a little more offence the skins 1st 3pts was a gift
Brendan (dayton)
Anyone know which candidate has been endorsed by the punter's union?
Chris (Huntsville, AL)
Whoa, something new is happening. Could it be the Skins are punting?
Matt (Toronto)
What's with Ben's passes? Even the DB's can't catch them!
Robert (North Carolina)
Even the guys intercepting the ball can't catch these guys passes.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
should have been a pick 6/.....so close
Buzzmaster (9:53 PM)
And another third down not converted.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
sorry but as a Bengals fan I like seeing Ward get jacked up
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Punt!!!
Robert (North Carolina)
Soccer players use their hands better than this group.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Mike, I'm with you. I saw him get hit hard and was like, Yes sir!
Tom (Chicago)
The SNL bash is terrible. They should show stuff from the 90's. Not the boring stuff from this decade.
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
Whichever candidate promises offense in the second half during their halftime schpiel gets my vote.
Charlie (Mississippi)
Stop passing please. Just let Parker and Moore run. Moore hasn't gotten any snap yet.
Al Davis (Oakland, CA)
Is Yamaguchi committed to excellence??
Buzzmaster (9:55 PM)
Mike Leach does not approve of this game.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
How about a TD...I approve this message
David (Ft Myers, FL)
I think the training staff had better work on the punters and keep them limber...they will be getting a lot of work tonight.
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
sure looked like that steelers trainer with the beard and the hat was giving ward the stinkeye.
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
haha this game is so bad they are showing a brooks bollinger highlight.
Robert (North Carolina)
I'll make you a bet...as soon as the millionth guy takes the 2nd half under they come back and throw 3 TDs a piece.
Buzzmaster (9:56 PM)
Well, if you punt enough times ...
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Tirico called it.....LOL
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
blocked punt!! That's exciting!
steve (orlando)
there's some steeler football
Pete (NC)
i did not see that coming
Robusto, Durham, NC
That's what we needed!!!!!!! Special Teams FTW!!!
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
law of averages Buzz
Ryan (New Orleans)
How come no one ever tries to ice the punter?
Buzzmaster (9:58 PM)
But do the Steelers have time to lose enough ground to get into punt territory?
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
And Ben Roe does what he does best- get sacked.
Charlie (Mississippi)
We'll get a touchdown here.
MT (CA)
Ok, I'm back...and I see I haven't missed much...
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
BigBen, statue of liberty-esque in the pocket
steve (orlando)
and a sack...more steeler football
Robert (North Carolina)
Really, a punter was involved in a big play?? Shocking, or should I say "shazam!"
Matt (Toronto)
Maybe Washington's punter got hurt on the play and we'll both have crippled punters! Imagine how much better this game would be!
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Ben Roethelisberger, the difference is sack-a-ability
Pete (NC)
i foresee another fg
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
icing the punter would be awesome.
Buzzmaster (10:00 PM)
I think that has a different meaning for Berger these days.
Andrew Chicago, IL
Did anybody catch that there was as 16 second run off after last Steeler possession when Ward dropped that pass? It should have stopped at 4:46, but instead ticked down to 4:30.
Matt (Toronto)
When did Ben become incapable of scrambling for positive yards? Until the end of last year, he was good for 4 or 5 big runs per game...
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
Big Ben is worse than Drew Bledsoe in the pocket.
Ryan (New Orleans)
At least you don't have to worry about Berger's distance here.
Robert (North Carolina)
Every punt will look like a rugby scrum.
David ( Chicago, IL )
Hypothetically speaking, if a Pittsburgh lineman rips the jersey completely off a Redskin, would that be considering holding? Or does 'holding' just not apply to Pittsburgh?
Brad (New York)
The Steelers are going to rally and get hot because of that punt block.
Jay (NY)
10 yards back...another penalty and a sack and we're good to go.
Matt (Toronto)
Icing the kicker works much better here in Canada. We literally encase the kicker in ice during the timeout. Makes it very difficult to make field goals.
Robusto, Durham, NC
They need a ballot initiative in PA to get the Steelers a new offensive line.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Did anyone see the Miami punter yesterday? That guy is always getting them inbetween the 10... I think he even had a 70 yard punt... it was ridiculous
Charlie (Mississippi)
I start to believe it's Ben's fault for so many sacks.
Ryan (New Orleans)
I like "in the pocket" as inneundo
Buzzmaster (10:03 PM)
Wow, the Steelers are in really good field goal position now.
steve (orlando)
challenge!
Brad (New York)
TD for sure!
Mike (Lexington, KY)
i think we have a TD coming
Jay (NY)
Oh come on....stopped at the 1 foot line....I hate fantasy sports.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
challenge Hines Ward to stop smiling
Mike (Charlottesville)
How impressive does the Giants offense look having beaten both of these teams already.
Robusto, Durham, NC
Looks like a TD, but with that O-line who knows.
Brad Johnson (Dallas)
If you are unhappy with Ben, i will be available shortly!
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Zorn just iced BigBen and Willy P
Matt (Toronto)
Run. The. Ball. No Bruce Arians unnecessary trickiness here...
Buzzmaster (10:06 PM)
Wait, there's a way to get six points at once? Amazing.
Jay (NY)
I'll take that!
TJ (Pittsburgh)
I say Ward for President, he's the one with the two big plays that have moved the ball.
Captain Obvious
Now the pressure on Campbell will really get turned up by LeBeau
DC
Go Lions!
Robert (North Carolina)
Sweeeet!!!! Shazam!!
Bobby (DC)
Redskins are a second half team baby!!
steve (orlando)
that lead may be insurmountable in this game
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Byron Leftwhich sighting
Brad (New York)
Uh Oh for Big Ben
Mike (Lexington, KY)
More sacks or punts tonight?
Buzzmaster (10:09 PM)
All right, we'll be back for the second half.
sgtdavis
Leftwich going to get beat up.
Steve (Pittsburgh)
we need parker to come up big in this second half
Dave
Bring in Cole Brennen
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Byron!
cameron (PA)
pittsburgh will win this game!
Buzzmaster (10:27 PM)
Bad news for Heath Miller and Ben Roethlisberger.
Buzzmaster (10:27 PM)
Good news for the Steelers passing game? Wow, big play for Nate Washington.
Chris Punxsy PA
not much of a drop off with Byron though
Jay (NY)
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Leftwich says "how ya like me now"
Buzzmaster (10:28 PM)
I would have gone with 'eureka'
Matt (Toronto)
Can anyone else on this team get hurt? This is just stupid.
Steve (Pittsburgh)
Yeeesssssss
steve
great block willie!
Robert (North Carolina)
Well I guess my hopes for Rothy to win my fantasy game this week just blew up.
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
no drop off in the fanny pack department, any way.
Dan (Ann Arbor, MI)
3 step drop, sidestep pressure, find the second receiver, don't underthrow the deep ball... Ben can't make that play.
Buzzmaster (10:30 PM)
QB controversy! Now there's some instant history for you.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
so far so good for BL
Robert (North Carolina)
In one pass Byron matched Ben in yardage..50 apiece.
Coffin (the punter)
Dad can I stop, I can't feel my leg..
Buzzmaster (10:30 PM)
Switch legs. Anyone can punt with one leg.
Steve (Pittsburgh)
sweep with willie
Doug (New Albany, Indiana)
Imagine that a QB with 2 healthy arms and hands is better. Shocking!
Buzzmaster (10:31 PM)
Not a sweep, but it's a TD for Parker.
Buzzmaster (10:32 PM)
And a missed XP. Well, that's fitting.
Travis(Grand Rapids, MI)
What happened to Ben?
Buzzmaster (10:32 PM)
Shoulder injury.
Buzzmaster (10:32 PM)
Someone get the Texas Tech contest-winner kicker on the phone.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
AFC flexing its muscle
Pete (NC)
How do you miss a PAT?
Joey Kesseler
wow a knuckleball there on the extra point nice job
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
there's a NEW albany? well i'll be damned, is it any better than the first two?
Buzzmaster (10:34 PM)
How come no city ever named itself Old something just to spite the other one?
Matt (Toronto)
I think Reed broke his toe on that XP miss.
TJ (Pittsburgh)
Man Reed is Mr. Automatic, what was that?
Charlie (Mississippi)
Can't believe that dependable Reed missed the extra point.
Morten Anderson (Atlanta, GA)
I can still make kicks!!!
Doug (New Albany, Indiana)
Only parts, for the most part New albany is much the same
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Old Trafford
joe (iowa)
just goes to show you that you can't take anything for granted...
Buzzmaster (10:35 PM)
And don't forget not to count your chickens before they're hatched.
Robert (North Carolina)
Fantasy Question: Why is everyone bailing on Olsen just because Orton got hurt. As the check down guy he is as valuable as ever and in the horrid year for TEs he is still as good as 80% of what is out there. Right?
Buzzmaster (10:36 PM)
Merlin made a comeback?
Jeff Reed (Pittsburg)
I've got the under..
Mike (Lexington, KY)
and don't put the cart before the horse
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
there ya have it, all 3 albanys kinda suck.
Dan (San Jose)
Old Spice, Old English and Old Navy.
Brett (Altoona, PA)
Big Ben + Byron Leftwich = the slowest QB tandem ever!
Robert (North Carolina)
Greg, but I'd take Merlin over most the starting TEs right now.
Ryan (New Orleans)
That's assuming Grossman knows what a checkdown is.
Buzzmaster (10:38 PM)
I'm starting to understand why Campbell hasn't thrown any interceptions.
Dan (San Jose)
Ouch. Body slam!
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Fun Fact.....1st half 9 first downs and 7 sacks
Ryan (New Orleans)
I believe the plural is Albani
O.B. (Autryville, NC)
don't count your chickens before the cart runs them over
Dan (San Jose)
Ouch. Body slam! You think Justin Tuck is at home looking for a flag?
Doug (New Albany, Indiana)
Old Milwaukee
Blake (Westfield, MA)
Now that sack had to hurt a bit.
Hutch (Sparta, NJ)
Stick a fork in the Redskins
Mike (Lexington, KY)
O.B. that was funny
Jay (NY)
What's with this Old talk? Is Clinton here?
Steve (Pittsburgh)
Anyone notice how great the steelers D has played these last two weeks? the only reason they are giving up points is because of the starting field position of the teams they are up against
Charlie (Mississippi)
Portis doesn't work; Sacked so many times; J Campbell just can't find his game anymore.
Buzzmaster (10:41 PM)
Was that a haiku?
Tom (Chicago)
Steve, I had not noticed that. I mean, no one ever talks about the Steelers defense (rolling eyes)
David (Fort Myers, FL)
Damn...Campbell can't get a pass off..they need to run some draws and quick screens to delay some rush. That, and take a shot deep (if they can hold long enough).
Nate (WI)
What happened to Big Ben?? I can't watch the game...but see he is out
Buzzmaster (10:41 PM)
Shoulder
Pete (NC)
this is looking like the preseason redskins
Steve (Pittsburgh)
Anyone notice these new Steeler Goggles I'm wearing?
Hutch (Sparta, NJ)
Steelers are going to a steady diet of run Willey, run Willey and pass.
Jacob (Virginia);
The deadskins are getting boring to watch,im hoping Hines Ward gets a touchdown.
Buzzmaster (10:43 PM)
Yes, because when you finally get some offensive continuity, by all means, start going with trick plays. Brilliant.
J (Keene, NH)
When trick plays go wrong...
Patrick (Richmond, VA)
leftwich will hand off considerably w/ no blocking
Robert (North Carolina)
OK that is a play to NEVER use again.
Matt (Toronto)
Wow, what a surprise. They faked that endaround 4 times in the first half...
TJ (Pittsburgh)
hmm, even I knew they were going to run that play.
Buzzmaster (10:44 PM)
And back to the battle of punters.
Jim (Pitt)
Why no Mewelde Moore at all? I understand Parker is the feature back and is finally healthy, but the guy has been flat out hot. At least give him a carry or 4 and see what he does.
Matt (Toronto)
Bruce Arians at his finest in that series.
TJ (Pittsburgh)
We are going the wrong way!
Robert (North Carolina)
The Redskins double dog dare Byron to try to throw it 50 yards downfield again.
eric
They should have kept passing!
Bernard (LB, CA)
I don't know maybe some life left in the Deadskins. I am skins, knicks, mets fan so I am used to taking a loss or two. The skins are my only hope.
steve (orlando)
don't forget the battle of the long snappers
TJ (Pittsburgh)
Okay D, get loud crowd and wave the Towels...yes I know the game is in DC...
Robert (North Carolina)
They're using Mewelde on the big plays....Kick Returns.
David (Ft. Myers, FL)
If the body slam does not get fined this week, then somebody owes Jason Tuck an apology and a refund.
J (Keene, NH)
Did they purposely schedule this game in Washington on the night before the election?
Doug (New Albany, Indiana)
Pitt just needs to not feed their o-linemen the day before games and tell them before the game that whoever gets past them gets their dinner, no protection = no food, I think they'll respond to that.
Ryan (San Diego)
Doesn't look like Heath Miller is gonna be getting me those two points in fantasy I needed to win
Charlie (Mississippi)
Bernard, why don't you switch to Giants? That also makes sense considering your two other favorites.
Buzzmaster (10:48 PM)
Redskins setting up the pooch punt with that first down at midfield
Jake (Duluth Mn)
Jason Campbell looks really good. He reminds me of a poise John Elway.
Bernard (LB, CA)
Born in DC and its just been my team since the 70's
Buzzmaster (10:49 PM)
First pick of the year for Campbell?
Buzzmaster (10:50 PM)
Or will the flag save him?
Mike (Lexington, KY)
campbell got crushed
Dan (San Jose)
The only thing Campbell has in common with Elway is his first initial.
Buzzmaster (10:50 PM)
Nope, holding on Washington, the pick counts.
Jake (Duluth Mn)
Oh man Campbell looks hurt. Cheap shot
Patrick (Richmond, VA)
smells like a momentum swing
Steve (Pittsburgh)
YES SO BIG!
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
Doh, was off in my pick prediction... It was bound to happen at somepoint...
Mike (Lexington, KY)
thats a pick...no question
Doug (New Albany, Indiana)
Hold the ball and you score
J (Keene, NH)
So much for no interceptions...
Hutch (Sparta, NJ)
swing? How about snowball?
Patrick (Richmond, VA)
samuels flagged, go figure. doesn't matter
David (Ft. Myers, FL)
Man. They ran a draw, a screen, and a play action bootleg and go to the Steeler 30. Then the tip ball interceptions. Not good.
Buzzmaster (10:53 PM)
Looks like control to me on the pick. You all?
Jason(Charlotte)
The Redskins are who we thought they were!!
Jake (Duluth Mn)
Redskins challenge, but i think it will stay a pick.
C.R. (nashville)
pick
Solmidog (Nacogdoches)
Do you still have to make a "Football Move?"
Pete (NC)
I bet that guy from Texas wished he caught his tipped ball.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
it will not get overturned....at least that is what my imaginary friend thinks
TJ (Pittsburgh)
Darn I had Polamalu being the one picking off Campbell for his first. Also, this reminds me of Troy's pick against Indy being called back during the playoffs.
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
yeah, it was a pick. Bad review...
steve (orlando)
ahh, the challenge. the best part of football
Bernard (LB, CA)
Yeah so much much for seing some life in the skins. Charlie maybe you right go Giants :)
Terry Zelenitz (Anchorage, Alaska)
The refs always blow these, gonna over turn it.
Buzzmaster (10:55 PM)
Pick stands
Robusto (Durham, NC)
As a Steelers fan, it does look like the ball is sliding and does bounce a bit off Taylor's leg
Deshea (Pittsburgh)
It for sure was a pick, he had control. Jaws just shows he will always side with the QB
J (Hagerstown, MD)
He takes 4 steps with control - I can see that from this side of the state
TJ (Pittsburgh)
Well a tipped ball for an interception...just like Big Ben.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Leftwhich sacked. Heh, thats rough
Patrick (Richmond, VA)
it took 4 minutes to figure that out?
David (Ft Myers, FL)
You new it was not going to be turned over. Had it been ruled incomplete, not sure if they would have reversed to a pick.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Waiting to see Dennis Dixon the way this o line is playing...
C.R. (nashville)
throw to Heath, Ben..
Buzzmaster (10:57 PM)
Two problems with that ...
Solmidog (Nacogdoches)
Skins defense needs to score, cause the offense isn't gonna do it.
Jake (Duluth MN)
I would like to see what Dennis Dixon can do. Is he still on the active roster?
TJ (Pittsburgh)
It almost looked like Fast Willie didn't expect that handoff.
Robert (North Carolina)
Cast revision: Tonight, in the second half, playing the part of Ben Rothlesberger will be Jason Campbell. Sorry no refunds.
Derek (Littleton CO)
Is Heath Miller out for good?
Buzzmaster (10:58 PM)
He's out for now
Robert (North Carolina)
No he should return before next season.
Bill (Philadelphia, PA)
I think Mike Tomlin just got injured and is out for the season.
Matt (indianapolis)
whoo by the looks of this the colts will have an easy one next week.......
Buzzmaster (11:00 PM)
That wraps up the third quarter. Steelers 16, Redskins 6.
Craig Boston, MA
Yes, because the Colts have looked so scary.
Buzzmaster (11:00 PM)
Three points scarier than the Patriots, I'd say.
Tom (Toledo)
This game is over.
Matt (indianapolis)
btw that was sarcrasm...
Jake (Duluth MN)
I think that the first half of this year proves that you need an expierienced backup on your roster in case a golden boy goes down and ruins your season.
Buzzmaster (11:01 PM)
Which makes it all the stranger someone like Leftwich was just sitting out there.
Charlie (Mississippi)
I like this drive with third conversions.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
I still think Dick LeBeau could be successful as a head coach (just not in Cincy)...his defenses always rock
Doug (New Albany, Indiana)
I'm not so sure the Colts will be able to move the ball after the showings the last couple weeks, and i could run on the colts
Buzzmaster (11:02 PM)
Big gain for Mewelde Moore on the short pass.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Wow, wide open.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Leftwhich wasn't that bad in Jacksonville, he just wasn't Garrard good.
Keith(Hawaii)
Looks like my redksins defense is starting to get tired.
David (Ft. Myers, FL)
Well..this game did not set up well for the Skins. Vet team used to playing well on MNF. Portis, Moss, Samuels hurt...not saying they cannot comeback, they started to move the ball before that tipped ball. But their defense is tiring out and the clock is a factor.
Charlie (Mississippi)
I 100% agrees with the backup comment, even for a long snapper.
Solmidog (Nacogdoches)
The problem with experienced QB's is that none of them want to be backups
Robusto (Durham, NC)
Finally a play action pass
Skins' D (NOT PAYING ATTENTION)
Oh dont worry about him...its just mewelde moore. he cant hurt us
Jason(Charlotte)
No one should be that open in the NFL.
Buzzmaster (11:04 PM)
Heat check from Leftwich on that pass.
J (Keene)
He was never bad. Just injury prone.
bdb
How about them MAC QBs!!!
Bernard (LB, CA)
I have had a enough. Good thing I am in a bar so I can at least get enjoyment from a drink. The Skins are killing me again. Looks like pre season. again
Buzzmaster (11:04 PM)
You're online in a bar?
Tom (Laurel, MD)
Leftwich in Jacksonville was great until there line fell apart
Ryan (New Orleans)
Brad Johnson misses being a backup
Ben Roethlisberger (Washington)
I'm confused, why does Byron keep throwing to the uncovered running back only 3 yards up field? If he just holds the ball longer he can try a 50 yard bomb to a covered Holmes.
Keith(Hawaii)
I agree with Tom in Toledo. It appears, unless the offense starts doing something, Redskins fall to 6-3.
Robert (North Carolina)
Carolina fan here...trust me Bernard you were worse in preseason.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Giants/Pitt in the Super Bowl? Could be but Pitt has to stay healthy
Robusto (Durham, NC)
Maybe the Steelers could get the furious five for the o-line with kung fu panda as the long snapper.
Buzzmaster (11:07 PM)
Dennis Dixon warming up, Bubby Brister answering his phone ...
Jake (Duluth MN)
Wow the skins cant cover tonight.
TJ (Pittsburgh)
Wow you guys are down on your team after all the hate I heard from skins' fans this week.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
this is a new team with Leftwich tonight
Harold (Pittsburgh)
Skins are overrated!!! They wont even make the playoffs
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Good catch from the never ending smiler.
Pete (NC)
Carolina/Tennessee in the SB. Battle of the Appalachian Mts.
mark(mississippi)
lookin a lot like the old byron
Nick
Pittsburgh's D is playing outstanding. Credit to them. Not giving up on My skins though
Buzzmaster (11:08 PM)
TD pass to Holmes
Doug (New Albany, Indiana)
Let's hear it for Marshall Alumni
Martin (Cleveland, OH)
Conspiracy Theory #2: Is the presidential barometer the reason why the stadium has sounded so pro-Pittsburgh? Could it be some Skins fans are also Obama fans and are superstitious? just asking!!
Mike (Lexington, KY)
I feel confident in saying this is OVER!! Pitts defense is too good to blow this
Tom (Toledo)
Told you it was over. Stick a fork in the ball.
Sean (Louisville)
That sound you hear is 1000 keyboards making waiver claims on Leftwich for next week
J (Keene)
23 unanswered!! There we go Steelers!
TJ (Pittsburgh)
hehe Brister, or Mark Malone is warming up...
Pat (Pittsburgh)
Decent Offense + Great Defense = Championship
Charlie (Mississippi)
Leftwich is really doing well. I wouldn't miss Ben next week.
Jake (Duluth MN)
and about 25,000 keyboards dropping Derek Anderson
Solmidog (Nacogdoches)
I'll give you this one Pat...but lets not get carried away
Carl (Pittsburgh)
QB Controversy???????
Fola (Lakewood, WA)
I wish the Cowboys had a decent back up QB like BL
Tommy (Indianapolis)
I was at Marshall when Byron was there, and he still has that gun!
Buzzmaster (11:13 PM)
And we have a Clinton Portis sighting.
Robert (North Carolina)
Doesn't Leftwich look like his face stopped aging at 7 years old? Just saying.
Doug (New Albany, Indiana)
Hamp is not gonna catch Portis
Buzzmaster (11:13 PM)
Close to a fumble by Portis on that one, but ruled incomplete.
Shane (Pittsburgh)
Hampton is going to need some oxygen after that run right there
Mike (Lexington, KY)
I grew up across the river from Marshall....good to see he still has it
Jake (Duluth MN)
Jeez everyones sipping the Byronade.
Buzzmaster (11:14 PM)
Who will make his induction speech in Canton?
Sleazy
come on tommy, hes been bouncing around from team to team for 3 years, he isnt that good, he had a couple good series is all
brad
come on, BL is a hack
Ryan (New Orleans)
Byronade is good for electrolytes
mark(mississippi)
Taste great though
Solmidog (Nacogdoches)
Everybody likes the backup...except in Dallas
Buzzmaster (11:16 PM)
They just don't like the former backup in Dallas.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Sack O Meter - 10
Buzzmaster (11:16 PM)
Campbell throws it away on fourth down ...
Buzzmaster (11:17 PM)
And the personal foul for roughing the passer.
Pete (NC)
worst call ever.
Tyrone (Seattle)
I think Zorns play calling was too conservative in the first half. It would be hand it off to Portis or a three step drop and pass. They took only one shot down the field and that allowed the Steelers to crowd the line of scrimmage. Zorn needs to be able to adjust on the fly.
Ryan (New Orleans)
Yeah, Dallas loving Bollinger right now
Jake (Duluth MN)
Roughing the Passer....that was so obvious
TJ (Pittsburgh)
omg REALLY?
Tom (Chicago)
Wow. Roughing the passer? Stupid, stupid play.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
uuummm...don't like that call
Nathan (MN)
what a lucky break on that call
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Pitt's defense is laying the lumber right now
Tom (Toledo)
Bring back Sonny Jurgenson.
Charlie (Mississippi)
Defense won't blow the game, not sure about penalty though.
Robert (North Carolina)
I feel sorry for Campbell that just gives Pitt 4 more sack opportunities
Jake (Duluth MN)
It was helmet to helmet.
Solmidog (Nacogdoches)
Won't that clock run any faster?
Buzzmaster (11:19 PM)
First and goal Redskins
?
worst call ever, he's standing up with his hands in the air, that is NOT a hit! They bumped face masks.
jmacc
i love football but these pansey roughing calls are killing the game
Rich
What a terrible call...it is a pansy league. They beat up Rothelisberger all day and nothing called.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
guitar hero girl is niiiiice
Tom (Chicago)
This might be the best commercial ever. Heidi Klum? Wow.
Tyrone (Seattle)
don't you know you can't touch the QB's anymore? Come on man stay up with the rule changes.
RG (Atlanta)
So Campbell coming DOWN into the defender is a personal foul??? WOW....
arod
Pitt's defense isn't only layn' the lumber they're building a cabin over Campbell
Jake (Duluth MN)
Helmet to Helmet Rich you gotta call it everytime it happens to protect the qb.
Chris (Pittsburgh)
They call roughing the passer, but don't call the textbook Horse Collar in the first half that took Ben down. WOW
Sean (Louisville)
Waiting for the obvious Heidi Klum/fantasy team joke...
Doug (New Albany, Indiana)
Not bad after what 3-4 kids
Brian (Pittsburgh)
face mask to face mask is not a helmet to helmet hit. I helmet to helmet is when a guy lowers his head and hits someone with the top of their head. The nfl is getting ridiculous.
J (Keene)
Polomalu wasn't lying when he said their turning the NFL into two hand touch
Bill (Philadelphia)
I kiss my gf harder than Farrior's "helmet to helmet" on Campbell.
Buzzmaster (11:22 PM)
That's just a strange analogy.
Charlie (Mississippi)
Campbell is forced to win the game using his arms. I like the chance of another interception.
TJ (Pittsburgh)
*still shakes head at "roughing" penalty*
jmacc(nj)
even the call against tuck against the cowboys and i am a boys fan but the call was so soft we might as well put flags on the qbs
Pete (NC)
Uh, isn't that why they wear a HELMET?
Buzzmaster (11:23 PM)
Could go with Ditka's solution and make them play without facemasks.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
I understand the rule but just don't like thhe call...its like getting a speeding ticket 1 MPH over the limit
Buzzmaster (11:23 PM)
TD Redskins on the Campbell scramble
Buzzmaster (11:24 PM)
Wow, but he was way short
Solmidog (Nacogdoches)
He was down early
Nathan (MN)
knee was down
Pete (NC)
the refs are obviously for the redskins
Jake (Duluth MN)
Why challenge it. Portis Will punch it in anyways. Just more chat time.
Nathan (MN)
wow. that was a terrible call, how can he not see that.
Brian
How does that ref mis that?
Rich (West Chester)
This is unbelieveable...The referees are ridiculious! If a person on a regular job made that many mistakes, they would be fired.
Buzzmaster (11:26 PM)
If you did your job on national television, I'm pretty sure we'd find a few mistakes.
J (Keene)
"football isn't a contact sport. Dancing is a contact sport. Football is a collision game."-Vince Lombardi
Pete (NC)
Those guys at Buffalo Wild Wings don't want to leave yet, so they're asking the refs to extend the game.
Shane (Pittsburgh)
Maybe Portis should have a chat with Brandon Jacobs abouting punching it in against the steelers.
Anon (pittsburgh)
Ive seen powder puff games hit harder that the stuff that gets called in the nfl now.
Jake (Duluth MN)
It was Hochuliesque
Hutch (Sparta, NJ)
The worst thing about the NFL are the refs, again and again.
Mike (Boise, Idaho)
That's it, I have had it. I am going to watch college football exclusively and boycott the Pansy league called the NFL. I just hope other fans start to do the same and send a swift message to the dictator, sorry commisioner, that the protection, fines, and personal foul calls are completely ruining the league. Good luck to you all, but I am going to watch a man's league the SEC.
RG (Atlanta)
I guess that financial firms aren't the only ones that get bailed out in DC...
Buzzmaster (11:28 PM)
Fourth and goal inside the one
Sean (Louisville)
A new adjective and a renouncement of the NFL...I love it
Craig (Boston, MA)
Don't start Ed bashing, that guy is great regardless of that blown call.
Robert (North Carolina)
Devil's advocate but I think the refs have done pretty good and the challenges have cleaned up the minor missed calls.
Solmidog (Nacogdoches)
You mean the big 12
J (Keene)
hahaha RG, funniest thing i've heard all day
Jake (Duluth MN)
There goes one fan of the NFL. Only 1.5 Million Fans Left.
Buzzmaster (11:29 PM)
Incomplete, opting to try the pass.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
gutsy call and it doesn't work
TJ (Pittsburgh)
Wow having Harrison getting the crowd to cheer...look at those Towels!
Chuck (NC)
Easy to call after all the super slowmo playbacks. Try doing it at field level at real time!
Buzzmaster (11:30 PM)
Parker barely escapes the endzone.
Jim (Atl)
The skins are morons. Jason hasn't been accurate all night. They are 18 inches away from a TD and they throw the ball?
Robert (North Carolina)
The colleges are even more pansy. They are too afraid to face midmajors and no heart to have 4 teams play an extra game or two. Give me a REAL champion.
Nathan (MN)
uh oh snap over the punter's head for a safety coming up?
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Hey Parker try running around your lineman
Brent (MI)
That was a very stupid call but thank you for not giving it to Portis
Sean (Louisville)
I bet TMQ's head just exploded when the Redskins passed.
Buzzmaster (11:31 PM)
Fourth down with no room to spare on the punt.
Solmidog (Nacogdoches)
Do they take an intentional safety rather than risk the punt?
Greg
funny how some REAL comments dont get posted, with no swearing or anything like that. Just maybe some truth about the offcials!!!! Maybe. true.
Buzzmaster (11:33 PM)
Yes, Greg, I'm in league with the officials. You smoked it out.
Robusto (Durham, NC)
Dick LeBeau, fifty years in the NFL, and Brett Favre is the iron man.......
bop59
where was roughing the kicker???
Craig (Boston, MA)
At least they didn't kick a field goal. TMQ would have loved that.
Jim (Atl)
should have taken the safety for field position...Oh wait, the Skins haven't gained 20 yards on their own all night
Solmidog (Nacogdoches)
Smoke being the operative word
Greg
then post my other comment. and see what others think about it.
Buzzmaster (11:35 PM)
Because your other comment was inane.
Steve (MN)
Steelers D should hold them to a FG
Robert (North Carolina)
Ut oh! everyone put on your aluminum caps to recieve transmission that the refs and Vegas are in collusion. And the Redskins, as other losing teams, have agreed to gop along for kicks.
Ren
Maybe they should have taken the safety... oh wait a minute! This isn't CFL football!
Doug (New Albany, Indiana)
How is LeBeau not in the HoF? Granted he played alongside "NightTrain" but still.
Jake (Duluth MN)
Speaking of smoke Fun Fact: Sonny Jurgenson likes to smoke cigars
Steve
admit it....refs cheat. period.
Guy (Trenton, NJ)
Thanks Big Ben for costing me a win. You are getting dropped ASAP.
Keith(Hawaii)
In the redzone all night but just cant do anything. Hey, how bout passing it when you get to the 1yd line?
Buzzmaster (11:37 PM)
Sack No. 7 for the Steelers.
Steve
I suppose that wasn't a sack either
Ren (Hamilton, Ontario)
The goal line stand puts the exclamation point on this game!
Pete (NC)
and zorn's stock plummets.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
It just wouldnt be a MNF chat without referee griping
Steve
Steelers are destroying them, worse than the score says
Jake (Duluth MN)
Off topic but there should be an election chat tommorow night.
Buzzmaster (11:39 PM)
If it wouldn't descend into name calling in about 5 minutes, that might be fun.
steve (orlando)
there;s an election tomorrow?
Sean (Louisville)
Election chat?? You think the officiating griping is bad???
Arod
Everything would be sensored.
Tom (Toledo)
Are refs subject to random drug testing like the players?
Ryan (New Orleans)
The most popular ref is always the backup
Robert (North Carolina)
You would think that one of the thousands of coconspirators in "Cheating Ref-gate" would have sold his story to 60 minutes. They must have a killer 401K.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
An election chat would be combustible....that would be a slobber knocker for sure
Mike (D)
I think Gore is gonna take it tomorrow
kc, mo
u have the leading rusher in the nfl and you throw all night and take sacks? terrible game plan in my opinion
Solmidog (Nacogdoches)
With a name like Buzzmaster, you think that you would be randomly tested
Buzzmaster (11:41 PM)
I'm randomly not tested.
Tom (Chicago)
How would the name calling be any different than the Morning Buzz?
Buzzmaster (11:41 PM)
Believe it or not, far less civil.
Jeff (ohio)
was this really domination by the Steelers or total ineptidude the Skins?
Ren (Hamilton, Ontario)
All of a sudden the signing of Leftwich makes the Steelers GM look pretty damn good!
Steve (NJ)
Why are the Steelers still passng?
Robert (North Carolina)
Leftwich for president.
Rich (West Chester)
I am not sure why Dick Lebeau is not in the HOF. Great playing career and a defensive innovator. Anyone have any ideas?
Jake (Duluth MN)
If the skins could score they would still be in this game. They still keep stopping the steelers
Buzzmaster (11:42 PM)
I agree. If the Redskins had more points, they'd definitely be winning.
steve (orlando)
so many RBs go into their game against the steelers as the NFL leading rusher and come out looking for mommy
Kevin (Pittsburgh, PA)
Except for one 22 yard run, he was going no where. Steelers have leading rush defense in the NFL.
Steve (MN)
Leftwich was never a bad QB, even at Marshall seen him play.
Robusto (Durham, NC)
Looks like Berger's hamstring is feeling better.
Solmidog (Nacogdoches)
I don't think the skins are really this bad but Pittsburgh is really this good
Brad (Memphis, TN)
BL is a hack, lemme know what you think after next week when they gameplan for him
Jake (Duluth MN)
You can put this loss on the Offense
Brian
I want to see Colt Brennan play.
jeremy (ohio)
My huess would be dick's time in Cincy hurt his recent HOF chances.
Steve (NJ)
Zorn is real smart, leaving his starters in in this
Buzzmaster (11:45 PM)
All right, since we're at the season's halfway point, more or less, what is your Super Bowl pairing?
steve (orlando)
steelers/giants
Steve (NJ)
Eagles vs. Titans
Charlie (Mississippi)
Steelers vs Giants, and Steelers wins.
Tom from Toledo
San Diego and the NYGs
Craig (Boston, MA)
Steelers - Giants.
Tom (Chicago)
Titans and Cardinals (as long as the Cardinals don't have to travel East in the playoffs).
Tom (Laurel, MD)
Giants and Tennessee
Robert (North Carolina)
Carolina vs. Tenn
Sean (Louisville)
I'm like Madden...the champ is the champ until somebody beats 'em. Giants/Steelers rematch!!
Paul (NC)
Detroit/Cincinnati. just kidding, All NY game Buffalo/NY Giants
Robusto (Durham, NC)
Titans v Giants, Giants win
TJ (Pittsburgh)
Steelers/Giants
Sack O Meter (Washington)
Overload system is ready to crash
Brian
Titans don't have a chance.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Allright fellow curmudgens....good night and good luck...dont forget to vote
