Brendan Roberts (3:00 PM)
Good afternoon, everyone! Happy Election Day! Just as important, Happy Prepare-to-get-free-agents-for-Week-10 day! Let's get to the questions.
TJ (Boston)
Hey Brendan. Rest of the way (PPR league): Willie Parker or Chris Johnson?
Brendan Roberts (3:01 PM)
I'd say Johnson. Don't see him wearing down thanks to the timeshare the first half of the season.
Adam, STL
BR: been offered MJD straight up for Jacobs, deal or no deal. return yards count no ppr.
Brendan Roberts (3:01 PM)
Hmm, with return yards counting, yeah, I'd say you take that. I like MJD here.
Lee
Sage or Quinn?...
Brendan Roberts (3:03 PM)
Good question -- two new starters. Without looking at skeds, I'd say Sage. But after looking at the skeds, I'd have to say Quinn. Definitely much more favorable during the time period that Sage will be starting.
Randy (CT)
Hey Brendan..youre always good to me. So, heres the deal (bear with me). I have (count em) Slaton, CJ, Graham, Lynch, Torain, S. Morris and Brees with Rivers gettin splinters on my bench. Is ofering Slaton/Rivers for either LT, AP or Gore a smart move for me? If so, which one is the one to have. Am I giving too much? Not enough? Should I just roll with matchups every week with what I have?? Hate to see me not get something in return for Rivers who I wont use!! Thanks so much.
Brendan Roberts (3:05 PM)
Well, I think Rivers is WAY overrated, so I like your line of thinking -- a 2-for-1 to upgrade your RBs. As long as you think you're OK at QB ... you might also be able to get a throw-in there, maybe a useable No. 3/4 WR.
Bryan (pittsburgh)
I know its early in the week but have to start thinking about it already ... pick 2 S.Jax, Slaton, Torian
Brendan Roberts (3:05 PM)
It's early enough in the week that you have to wait and see on S-Jax. It's looking like he might miss. Haslett said he'll have to practice this week to play, and no word yet on whether he can practice. If he plays, then him and Slaton.
Joe (NY)
Help me out Brendan. I need a warm body at WR this week to cover the bye. Other than Matt Jones, would you recommend any Jags WR this week?
Brendan Roberts (3:06 PM)
All depends upon Jones' suspension. First of all, no word on that, which leads me to believe he'll be able to play another week. If he does, he'd be the only guy I'd be interested in. If not, then Reggie Williams sorta intrigues me. But I wouldn't be interested in more than one Jags WR, for sure.
Jeff (MA)
J. Charles or R. Ray off waivers in PPR for this week and rest of season?
Brendan Roberts (3:08 PM)
Hmm, I'd probably say Rice Ray, er Ray Rice for both. He seems to have grabbed a share of that RB workload, and Coach Harbaugh won't even commit to McGahee starting. Interesting.
Bob (NJ)
Who wins in a straight up trade Ronnie Brown or Calvin Johnson??
Brendan Roberts (3:09 PM)
It's close, and probably depends upon team situations, but I think I like C-Johnson a bit more. Then again, I'm a huge Megatron fan (in fantasy, anyway).
Geoff (Colorado)
Brendan...always appreciate the advice...what do you think: Slaton v BAL or Stewart v OAK???
Brendan Roberts (3:09 PM)
I'd stick with Slaton.
Ron (Clarks Summit, PA)
ETHICS QUESTION: Is a Jerricho Cotchery and Leon Washington for Reggie Bush trade vetoable? I would be getting Bush, and since I am 7-2 with adequate depth, I can afford to wait a few more weeks while Bush gets healthy, hoping he will be useful to me come playoff time if he heals adequately. My trading partner is 4-5, and he likely needs to win 3 out of the next 4 games to have any shot at qualifying for the playoffs, so he can't afford to have an asset like Bush languishing on his bench if he can get something for him that might help him make the playoffs. Our commish vetoed the trade (the commish is tied with me for first place, and this week the commish is playing the guy who is trying to get Jerricho and Leon, which would be especially helpful to him in this upcoming matchup with the commish, because he needs a quality fill-in for his top player on a bye, Clinton Portis). Since the Commish has sole veto power (no voting system), would you call shenanigans here?
Brendan Roberts (3:10 PM)
Admittedly, I didn't read every word of your question here, but I didn't need to -- call shenanigans (if it even matters). That's certainly fair enough, in my mind.
Marco (Boston)
Hey Brendan how are ya? Will Schaub's injury hurt Kevin Walter's career season? If so, is he worth anything on the trade market?
Brendan Roberts (3:11 PM)
Walter is drawing some interest in the trade market, but still not much. I'm seeing owners trade him for Ryan Torain-type No. 3/4 backs. At least that's something. He should be able to maintain his hot play; in my mind, Sage isn't a major downgrade from Schaub. At least he can get it to his receivers (which I have my doubts Brooks Bollinger can).
Do you think bobby engram is worth holding on to? Hes worthless
Do you think bobby engram is worth holding on to? Hes worthless without Hass... but could be good after he returns. They have an easy last 5 games.
Brendan Roberts (3:12 PM)
Exactly. Their sked in that NFC West is mighty easy. I'd hang on to him and start him at No. 3 WR/flex in the favorable matchups.
Dave (GA)
Pick two for the rest of the season...Jamall Charles, Torain or Ray Rice? PPR league...THANKS!
Brendan Roberts (3:12 PM)
Rest of season? Torain and Rice.
Dan (New York)
Torain or D. Ward this week?
Brendan Roberts (3:13 PM)
Torain, believe it or not. Looks like he might start with Selvin still banged up. And I don't like multiple NYG backs in Philly.
j\
Hey Brendan, don't forget to VOTE!! Shiancoe, any Miller, or Kevin Boss as my Witten replacement this week? And do you know if Scheffler is going to play?
Brendan Roberts (3:15 PM)
Voted already! I like Shiancoe there. He's looking like a steady target for Frerotte. Plus, Heath Miller is already doubtful, and Boss is hurt, too (but probably will play). No word on Scheffler, which leads me to believe he'll be a game-time decision, at best.
JESUS
Is this a fair trade..MJD and Santonio Holmes for M. Lynch? THANKS!!
Brendan Roberts (3:15 PM)
Fair enough not to veto, but I definitely like the first portion of it better.
Bill (Concord, NC)
Help! I lost Palmer, Hasselbeck, Anderson and now Orton..Campbell or Quinn the rest of the way
Brendan Roberts (3:16 PM)
I'd say Campbell. Quinn might have more upside, but I foresee some bumps ahead for him. Literally. I think the kid holds on to the ball too long and will get knocked around in his early games.
T (Lexington, KY)
Lendale White or Ryan Torain this week at a flex spot?
Brendan Roberts (3:17 PM)
Well, White is reliable enough to get touches/scoring chances that you can afford to sit Torain and see how he's used.
I feel like one of those lotto winners who ends up losing all of
Hey Brendan, everyone has been talking up T Hightower, is he going to be good enough to supplant Forte on my starting lineup if not he is just wasting space. I desperately need a reciever so if he is not good enough which reciever is a good one to target for him? Thanks
Brendan Roberts (3:19 PM)
I think I still like Forte more going forward, and yes, Hightower's trade value is sky-high right now, so trading him makes sense. He should go for a No. 2 WR, but one of the lesser No. 2s. What I would do is look for a team that is loaded at WR and is using what you feel is a No. 2 WR at a No. 3 WR slot. Ask that guy. Inevitably there is someone with plenty of options at WR.
Ben (Tempe, AZ)
Need help with a trade!!!! I would give up B Edwards and either J Lewis or T Jones for Boldin and either L Johnson or Fred Taylor.. Please pick which player I should give up and try to get...
Brendan Roberts (3:21 PM)
Boy, I don't think I'd do that, no matter what players are filled in. Who knows what LJ will do for ya, and Taylor is clearly a No. 2 RB for JAX right now. And Edwards and Boldin are pretty close, really. If you insist upon something, I'd probably say Edwards and Jones for Boldin and LJ.
John (Philly)
I couldn't wait for an answer. I just used my 9th (of 12 for the season permitted) waiver wire pick-up on Jamaal Charles. And to be honest I feel pretty good about it.
Brendan Roberts (3:22 PM)
Thanks for sharing, John. Sorry couldn't get to your question. 9th out of 12 ... you should feel good about that.
I WAS BRENDAN ROBERTS FOR HALLOWEEN
First Place 12 team league. I get: MB3 I give:Cutler and Forte. I have Warner also at qb. I am worried about his injury proneness, if he gets hurt I am hurt badly since I don't have a quality backup. Do I pull the trigger?
Brendan Roberts (3:23 PM)
Re: the subject ... very scary! I think you can get a throw-in in that deal, but the trade itself works for you, so I'd endorse it.
Dave (GA)
Who should i package with MJD for Lynch trade....Holmes, Driver, or V. Jackson(who has the least value)? I have Colston and Fitzgerald with Forte, S.Jax, and Rice so i can lose some WR depth
Brendan Roberts (3:23 PM)
I agree with you ... Vincent Jackson would be your throw-in.
Greg (UT)
Man... Thursday games make it even more tough to make decision! I have just the flex spot left, I have to choose between SJax, Torain, K Walter. Since Torain is playing Thursday, so I start him with his upside? Or do I wait to see if SJax is healthy enough to play because he is the obvious play there IF is starting. If he is ruled out Friday, I can then choose Walter. If I choose the latter strategy... then I miss out on Torain (or gain if he is a flop). What do I do? Start Torain, or wait it out to see SJax status?
Brendan Roberts (3:25 PM)
Hmm, I think you'll know whether S-Jax is practicing before Thursday. If he is, I'd hold out. If he's not, I'd probably go ahead and start Torain. I don't like Houston's matchup against Baltimore, so Walter is not a safe standbye, at least this week.
Barak (DC)
I do not have much going on today, so I was hoping you could tell me if Lewis is a better play than Jacobs this week?
Brendan Roberts (3:26 PM)
Ya know what, I think Lewis is a better play this week. They're close anyway, but I'd love to face that Denver run defense at home. Lewis it is.
Jon (MN)
Celek, or whatever his name is, real deal? I need a bye week TE for Cooley, and its him or Boss.
Brendan Roberts (3:27 PM)
Celek = NOT the real deal. I don't think of him as anything more than a journeyman tight end who happened to have a good game with L.J. Smith out. Smith is due back this week.
Can of hot soda
I'm debating a trade of giving Wes Welker and Roy Williams for Colston. I have Boldin (keeper) and Wayne as my WRs. We only play 2. Is Colston > Welker? (PPR)
Brendan Roberts (3:29 PM)
Ya know, at this point, I like Welker much more, especially in a PPR league. Cassel is zoned in with him. I just saw Welker set an NFL record for most games with six-plus catches in a game to start the season. Something like that. So no, I wouldn't make that deal.
Cody(Seattle)
Schaub owner here. Think Pennington could be serviceable enough until Schaub returns, or should I bite the bullet and drop Schaub for Sage, Flacco, or Frerotte?
Brendan Roberts (3:29 PM)
Pennington is at least close enough to those other guys that you shouldn't drop Schaub. Yeah, Pennington should work out all right.
Brian (Windsor CT)
Hey Brendan! I can realy use your help this week. Washington is on a bye this week and I need a tight end and defense. I had to trade Shefler for ryan torrain since pittman went down. Is spaeth worth a spot start or should i pick up dante rosario alge crumpler. For defenses there is New O, St. Louis, Oakland, SF, Sea, and Detriot. I am a first year owner and these decisions are making my head hurt!
Brendan Roberts (3:33 PM)
First of all, love that trade! I'd probably go with Crumpler. He has the most upside, and the Bears are susceptible to tight ends. Defenses? Ugh. Not much there. Probably Seattle.
up up down down left right left right b a start
Super Tecmo Bowl Question: Okoye or Bo Jackson
Brendan Roberts (3:33 PM)
What the heck, loved the game. DEFINITELY BO Jackson. Man among boys.
santo, philadelphia
celek is not a journeyman! second year player always been an Eagle! he won't play the seahawks every week but thats a tough label
Brendan Roberts (3:34 PM)
No, I mean I think that's his upside -- as a fantasy journeyman, a second TE (on his team) that has the occasional good game. Like Alex Smith (who has only played for the Bucs).
John, nyc
Earnest Graham = BIGGEST disappointment last week? I played him over Willie Parker...do you see FWP as a solid RB2 the rest of the way?
Brendan Roberts (3:36 PM)
Yeah, he disappointed, and now he's hurt. The team has a bye, but even Jon Gruden admitted he was concerned with the severity of Jackson's injury. This doesn't look good. ... Yes, FWP is a solid No. 2. Injury risk, so you might want to take this opportunity to get Mewelde, too, but Parker will produce when healthy.
d-houston
Would you trade Torain straight up for either Owen Daniels or Gates? I've already got Forte, Turner, C Johnson, and Addai, and would like an upgrade at TE over Z Miller.
Brendan Roberts (3:36 PM)
In your situation, yes I would. Darn, thought Miller would help you more, but just too inconsistent. Darn Raiders offense!
brian (de)
Is Hightower good enough this week to replace either Slaton vs. Balt or Addai vs. Pitt bc of the bad matchups?
Brendan Roberts (3:38 PM)
Boy, good question ... now that I look at it again, I could see Hightower starting over Slaton. SF at home is a nice matchup.
Jack (Chicago)
V. Jackson and Camarillo for Gates?
Brendan Roberts (3:38 PM)
Do it up.
Deuce (NO)
Will I be loose this week, or will I be riding the pine with a suspension..? Shouldn't suspensions come out early in the week?
Brendan Roberts (3:39 PM)
McAllister's suspension reportedly will not be heard until late November now, so the Deuce will be loose again this week ... and probably will Reggie Bush returns. Not that I like him much, though.
Roger (Rip City)
Would you drop Fred Taylor for Charles?
Brendan Roberts (3:41 PM)
Only if you plan on starting Charles this week or maybe next. I think Taylor is the better guy to have on your roster, but I think Charles makes for a better start this week. In other words, only in a desperation play.
Tim (Latrobe, PA)
OK. Say it's Thursday and I have no clue if SJax is going to start on Sunday....do I throw Torain in there, or play it safe and go with Welker (Buf), Berrian (GB), or Avery (NYJ)? PPR League!
Brendan Roberts (3:42 PM)
Go with one of the WRs. Welker. As an aside, worth noting for all you owners of Pats players that the Bills defense is pretty banged up, and now with Donte' Whitner (a playmaking safety) and Aaron Schobel, their pass-rushing DE. Its bite has lost some teeth.
ate
Pick 2: SJAX, ADDAI, TORAIN
Brendan Roberts (3:43 PM)
Answered something like this earlier ... Addai and SJax if it appears by Thursaday that SJax will play, but choose Torain if SJax isn't practicing.
mike (denver)
T.Hightower or D.McAllister in a yardage+TD league.
Brendan Roberts (3:43 PM)
Hightower.
W (Washsington D.C.)
Strategery question. I am making a late season run with L. Evans, R. White, and A. Johnson as my WRs. LT and C. Johnson are my RBs. Should I try to trade one of my WR's for a RB upgrade? If so who should I trade and what would be reasonable to expect in return?
Brendan Roberts (3:44 PM)
Nah, I wouldn't do anything. Not sure how many WRs you start, but you appear to be maximized at each spot, which is your ultimate goal. I wouldn't ever sacrifice starting lineup quality for depth.
Chris(Fayettville)
Brendan, I could really use your help please. Do you like Lynch and Eddie Royal to get Addai? Also, Thomas Jones has been so consistent this year, would you still consider trading him for Ronnie Brown?
Brendan Roberts (3:45 PM)
I like the first part of the deal better, which means you'd have to throw someone in with Addai to even it out. And yes, I like TJ and Brown about the same.
Mike (DC)
Why is there any love for Torain? 1 yard on 3 carries? Shannahan is going to give the carries to Hillis.
Brendan Roberts (3:46 PM)
That was his first career game, and he didn't even have much work in the preseason. Far as I know, the Broncos still like him a lot, and while they'll split carries, I think Torain has the best shot to do something with 'em.
Bo Jackson, Tecmo Bowl
Bo dont know Fantasy, Bo Needs help... J Charles or Slaton this week? Braylon or Lance Moore this week?
Brendan Roberts (3:47 PM)
Bo knows Tecmo, baby! Slaton and Braylon.
TIM HIGHTOWER (ARZ)
WHATS UP BRENDAN! In a mandatory 3 keeper league where the keepers replace your first 3 rounds, could I turn into a possible option to keep behind Addai and Wayne? Possibly Torain? Or trade for a better 3rd keeper?
Brendan Roberts (3:48 PM)
Hightower is a fine No. 3 RB option right now. Torain is less so, probably safer as a No. 4, but he could become a No. 3.
What does it take to get your question answered here?
Blockbuster trade, pick a side: Cutler, Boldin, Lynch, Bush, and the SD D...or...Pennington, Vincent Jackson, Steve Breaston, Clinton Portis, and the Philly D? Thank you
Brendan Roberts (3:50 PM)
That's blockbuster, all right ... might as well just change teams! Ha, ha. I like the first side better; Portis is the best guy in the whole deal, but really the other guys are fringe starting options week to week.
Dan, MN
Brendan, what am I to do? I have Chester Taylor rotting on my bench as my handcuff for AP. Should I cut him loose for a more useable play at this point in the season (Torrian or Hightower), or hang on to Taylor?
Brendan Roberts (3:51 PM)
Nah, I'd cut him loose. We're about to the end of the byes, and you can count on your other options, hopefully, to be healthy enough for an "emergency" fill-in should you need it. Definitely think upside and go for Torain or Hightower.
B (ny, ny
Trade Analysis please! In a half-PPR league, should I offer Coles and Derrick Mason to get Jennings and DeSean Jackson? Is it a fair trade? Would throwing in Deuce help? Thanks!
Brendan Roberts (3:52 PM)
It's not a fair trade, or at least I don't think the other owner will think so. Mason has low trade value. Throwing in Deuce might get it done, but maybe not unless he also has Bush.
Dave (Detroit)
This is a little deeper than a "pick 2 of the following 3" question. When do you move a disappointing stud? I'm in a 12 team league where we start 2 WRs (no flex). I felt very good drafting T.O. and Plax as the cornerstones of my team. But with those two disappointing this year, I'm at 3-6 and in danger of missing the playoffs (one game out). Would you move one (or both) when there value is in the basement, or would you hang on to them in hopes that you could squeeze into the playoffs? When do you move a stud?
Brendan Roberts (3:55 PM)
I'd hang on to them. As Chad Johnson showed this week, certain receivers have that big upside week to week that you just can't warrant dropping them. You could trade them, but it's best to do so only after they've had a decent game, which kind of whets trade partners' appetites. (For instance, it'd be a good week to trade Ocho Cinco.) Also, I wouldn't trade 'em just to trade 'em; I'd do it only if you have depth (or will get it) at their position. In a sense, you kind of live and die by your early picks, which is why they're so important.
Matt (PA)
Hi Brendan, Brett Favre at home against the Rams or Jake Delhomme on the road against the Raiders?
Brendan Roberts (3:55 PM)
Favre.
My Question is the last one you'll answer
If Leftwich starts does Hines Ward's Value increase or decrease? Thinking of starting him ahead of Avery
Brendan Roberts (3:57 PM)
Not the last one, but ... Ward's value stays about the same. If you think about the type of passes they throw, both quarterbacks really aren't that different. I'd stick with starting Ward this week. His numbers Monday wasn't indicative of his game performance. He was targeted a number of times but just bring it in.
fred (denver)
Edge is completely useless at this point correct? I can safely drop him to pick up a ray rice or the waiver flavor of the week right?
Brendan Roberts (3:58 PM)
Unfortunately so; you can drop him. I just didn't see that coming. I thought Edge would at least remain part of the platoon, but "the Whiz," as they call him in AZ (I spent the past several days there), has not even committed to using Edge this week, but still said the back would be active.
Larry B. (French Lick, IN)
I was always good at the buzzer... I need a QB for a few weeks and Edwards is there...@NE, CLE, @KC and SF. Am I dumb not to roll the dice?
Brendan Roberts (3:59 PM)
That's not as favorable as it looks, but I really like Edwards' consistency. Unless you want to play the matchups and pick up a guy each week, going with Edwards is a solid option. Two more, guys.
Mike, Notre Dame, IN
Can't believe you took Quinn or Sage. Love Quinn, but drops balls and Johnson is top WR. Anyway, for week 10 to replace Schaub: Sage, Ferrote, Flacco or Thigpen.
Brendan Roberts (4:00 PM)
Can't believe you'd pick Sage over anyone ... he's still Sage Rosenfels! Kidding, kidding, Mike. I like Frerotte in that one. Surprisingly good numbers, and he has a nice connection with Berrian. I'm shocked by this, but Gus has actually been pretty good.
John, nyc
Thoughts on Thomas Jones for the rest of the year? Do you see his legs wearing out?
Brendan Roberts (4:02 PM)
Nah, I don't see his legs wearing out ... because Leon Washington will continue to get, oh, one-third of the work. That, of course, will keep Jones healthy and on the field, but it'll cut down on his yards. TJ should be worth starting in most weeks in standard-sized leagues, but I'd shy away from him (if you have depth) during some weeks, including Week 11 at New England.
Brendan Roberts (4:03 PM)
All righty, all. Have to run. REMEMBER that there are Thursday games this week. Well, one of 'em anyway (Denver at Cleveland). Either way, get out and vote ... and have a great Week 10!
