John Seibel (2:01 PM)
greetings and welcome to the machine. we saw change happen in the usa. let's take the change to the bcs. pete carroll says he thinks "it stinks." let's change it. what change would you make?
Steve (Blacksburg, VA)
Big O: Sitting in Macroeconomic Theory.. Chatting with you seems more fun.. Any thoughts on Oakland cutting MEangelo Hall?
John Seibel (2:05 PM)
seibel here.... i'm not amazed that hall has been a disappointment. he's always been a "me" guy. this is more of a reflection of the raiders' decision making and scouting department doing a poor job of research to only figure this out less than 10-games into his sweetheart contract.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
My idea to fix college football: Eight conferences with two divisions in each. Division champs play one another in the conference title game. The eight winners are then seeded and begin the playoffs. I'm Johnny from PA and I approve this suggestion.
John Seibel (2:07 PM)
so which conferences get left out? are you stumping to exclude teams and conferences from a chance to achieve their goal?
Bob(Lowell)
Now that crazy Al has cut Hall, I think he may show up on draft day, hold a press conference, and refuse to let Atlanta exercise the draft pick he gave up in that trade.
John Seibel (2:10 PM)
let's just cut to the chase. the raiders have a lunatic at the helm. al is a despot, a dictator who has long-since lost his football marbles. he has zero sensibility and without a clue on how to piece together a winning organization. he obviously hasn't learned how to get out of the way.
Ryan (San Diego)
What if I were to tell you the Chargers would finish the season at 10-6, win the division easily and go on to make a Super Bowl run? Is that something you might be interested in? Or believe?
John Seibel (2:10 PM)
do tell. i'm all ears.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Johnny: Much has been said about weak OOC scheduling by Big Ten teams. In the coming weeks we will see Auburn v UT-Martin, Tennessee v Wyoming, LSU v Troy, Ole Miss v UL-Monroe, and Florida v the Citadel. Can you explain to me when those SEC opponents became football powerhouses?
John Seibel (2:12 PM)
college football schedules are like politicians. they all have their warts. unfortunately, it's only fashionable to focus on some teams' warts while conveniently not holding everyone to the same level of responsibility.
Pete (NC)
How does this sound: rank the top 128 teams after the first 6 games and have one huge tournament.
John Seibel (2:14 PM)
so, if you lose the 1st-game, then you only have a 7-game schedule? that's a lot of lost revenue for schools. imagine if ohio state were to lose. that's 5-less games and more importantly at least 3-home games less. that's roughly $50 million dollars in revenue. that's a tough pill to swallow.
Donald Williamsville,Mo
Who has the better defense in your opinon Steelers or Titans?
John Seibel (2:15 PM)
titans because their cornerbacks are better than the steelers. pittsburgh has struggled at cb for the last half dozen years. their pressure on qb's and good play from safeties have masked this, but they're not very good at corner.
Everyone Else Here
What if we were to tell you that a 7-9 record is more likely for the Chargers? You would say "that's about right"
John Seibel (2:17 PM)
i actually have them at 9-7. that still might be good enough to win the west.
Ryan (San Diego)
Over/Under 1 playoff win for the Titans?
BCS peeps
Here's some change for you: give us more money. That's the only type of change we'll listen to.
John Seibel (2:20 PM)
...and who runs the bcs? the 6-presidents from the bcs conferences. what do you think the chances are that they're going to open their lucrative pie to more share holders? not much.
Al Davis
Let's see, Seibel, Seibel..there he is. Welp, I guess I can cross him off my Christmas card list...
John Seibel (2:20 PM)
i really wanted a thomas the train set. guess i'll settle for a lump of coal.
Bob(Lowell)
I'll take the over on the Titans if they get to play the Chargers in the second round.
John Seibel (2:25 PM)
that's a HUGE if. i don't think the chargers get out of the 1st-round. not the way they look now. they will win the division by default. that historically brings early exits in the playoffs.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Will you be providing your solution to determining a college football champion on the Football Today Show airing from 4:00 - 6:30 PM (Noon - 2:30 PM in Soldotna, Alaska)?
John Seibel (2:27 PM)
need to hire you, johnny, as our media relations guy. as a matter of fact, i will unveil mine. my plan satisfies the current bcs bowls of their stand alone game. it does not tax their revenue, rather, i will increase their revenue. my plan for bcs america is one of abundance and success not cutbacks and stagnation. God bless the BCS and God bless America.
Pete (NC)
I have a grand idea. Just so no one can argue about which team is hypothetically better, every BCS team should play every other BCS team. Whoever has the best record at the end is the best, right?
John Seibel (2:27 PM)
so they're playing 50-weeks out of the year then, right?
Dan - San Jose
What to do about the 49ers? They have talent, I swear they do!
John Seibel (2:29 PM)
the first thing the niners need to do is hop in their delorean and go back to 2004 and NOT draft alex smith. i said then that he was far from a nfl-type quarterback. too bad san fran had their beer goggles on.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
I wait with great anticipation for your solution. The question is will the powers that be with the BCS be listening as well?
John Seibel (2:30 PM)
they and all YOU can listen. we'll kick off the show at 4-eastern (noon in bettles, alaska). keep sending you opinions to footballtoday@espnradio.com.
