Craig Haubert (3:00 PM)
Welcome everyone - Thanks for stopping by - Lots of good questions - so lets get rolling.
Nick ( Pikeville, NC)
Do you see anyone in ESPN top 150 coming to the Tar Heels?
Craig Haubert (3:03 PM)
UNC is in the hunt for several good 150 prospects. The Tar Heels will find out Thurs if they land WR Jheranie Boyd - which i think they do have a good shot at -- Also probaly have a good shot at TE/ATH Logan Thomas -- and i think if any team can get DE Ryne Giddins out of Florida it could be UNC. So lots to follow for Tar Heel fans.
Do the Longhorns have any inpact recruits comming to Austin other then the 19 comitments they have now.
Craig Haubert (3:05 PM)
The key guy at this point that Texas could add to this class is DT Jamarkus McFarland
Steve-o (Jacksonville, FL)
How come my gators have not been as successful in recruiting lately? Who will be their next big time recruits to commit?
Craig Haubert (3:08 PM)
Gator fans need to lay off the panic button as this is a very popular question -- Meyer is one of the best closer's in recruiting and i think that you will see Florida finish strong -- this will not be a big class, but give it some time the Gators seem to do their best down the stretch
How good do you think Penn State's incoming class(overall) is going to be?
Craig Haubert (3:11 PM)
I like PSU's class - some good talent and filling some needs -- they can finish strong if they can add players like LB Jelani Jenkins and Kevin Newsome -- they do need to start replacing some of those talented WR's that will be leaving the best rated bet at this point looks to be Justin Brown.
Sam (Irvine, CA)
Hi. USC recruiting is slow and has had no commits for a time do you see any recruits committing soon to USC?
Craig Haubert (3:14 PM)
I think the best bet is Devon Kennard who would be a great addition to this class. Possibly also the talented Utah guards John Martinez. As for soon - I think like Florida fans - USC fans will need to wait until around All-star season and Jan. for more big commits.
Pryor or Shepard... who would you rather on your team? Is this the new college QB pedigree?
Craig Haubert (3:17 PM)
Interesting question James - and that is a tough call -- Pryor has the size Shepard lacks -- both very athletic -- I think i might go with Shepard like 51% to 49% - I like Shepard a little more at this point as a passer and i think Shep could fit better into more positions if QB does not work out -- but it is very close -- i could see some siding with Pryor because of his height.
Chris (Kalamazoo, Michigan)
I hear players are decomitting left and right from Michigan. Talk me off the ledge please!
Craig Haubert (3:20 PM)
Come off the ledge Chris -- it happens -- Michigan fans just need to suck it up a little - trust me it is not as bad as you Mich fans think -- Losing WR McNeal was tough - i really think you get Big lineman Campbell back - and even with some guys leaving you guys still have a top 15 class with time to go. Things could be going better no doubt - but trust me they are not as bad as you may think.
Since WVU lost Boyd, do you see them getting Eugene Smith? If not, who else do you see them going after?
Craig Haubert (3:21 PM)
I think you are right on Lemmer - I think Smith is the best bet to fill that QB void left by Boyd.
Eric (Long Island, NY)
Craig, any feeling on where Devonte Holloman, William Campbell, and Nick Kasa might wind up?
Craig Haubert (3:24 PM)
I just posted that i think Campbell ends up back at Michigan, i think Holloman either lands at LSU with Loston or at South Carolina and as far as Kasa - you have to like the in-state Buffs with Florida as a possible long shot at this time.
one guy that has shot up the rankings on other sites is AZ OT Taylor Lewan, where does ESPN/Scouts have him, and how good does Michigan look for him?
Craig Haubert (3:26 PM)
You are right Ben --Lewan is one of the hottest prospects in the nation -- he is rated as the No. 14 OT and was recently added to the Under Armour roster
Did you think the Miami class from last year would be playing this well this soon? Also who can we expect from the 2009 Class to have a similar impacted?
Craig Haubert (3:27 PM)
Miami is getting great return from their true freshman -- watching them play this past weekend you can't help but think this team can seriously contend for a national title by 2010 if they can stay on course -- Wow is Sean Spence one heck of a football player.
Can we keep Dre Kirkpatrick in state? Which school has the best shot at pulling him out of Alabama?
Craig Haubert (3:29 PM)
Andy would be very surprised to see Bama not land him and his teammate WR Kelly
Who is Notre Dame going to pick up still in the process?
Craig Haubert (3:30 PM)
You have to like their chances to land Shaq Evans and we will find out soon if he picks ND
Chris (Macon, GA)
Craig, Who do you think is the number 1 prospect in the nation? Which top ten player will have the quickest impact?
Craig Haubert (3:33 PM)
I totally agree with our No. 1 player and think Shepard is No. 1 overall. It looks like many people out there also agree as we just had a vote who fans thought was No. 1 and Shepard won the vote clearly.
Craig Haubert (3:35 PM)
I think several players can make an impact - Shepard is so athletic he could help in a number of ways - but i think Trent Richardson may have the best chance to have the quickest impact - Much easier to transition to RB in college and he is so strong and fast he can compete and also take the hits
Tom S. (NY, NY)
Thats it? Shaq Evans? Who else does ND have a realistic shot at to close this class out?
Craig Haubert (3:37 PM)
Here is another guy they have a good shot Tom -- DE/DT Chris Bonds - good prospect and a good fit for their defense if he can get and stay healthy.
Chris ( Abq, NM )
Craig, I would be curious on your explanation of why Cierre wood gets penalized by you in rankings based on competition yet Manti te'o gets moved up when his level of competition is the same or less.
Craig Haubert (3:39 PM)
Chris I also got your question in my mailbag and we will be answering it this week on the Recruiting Insider on ESPNU so tune in for the answer.
Wish LSU already having a great class do you think they will end up with Rueben Randle and DeVonte Holloman at add to there class and any others?
Craig Haubert (3:41 PM)
I said earlier i think it is a LSU - South Carolina battle for Holloman -- As far as Randle he has a top 5 and it does not look like a decision will come soon, but very hard to get top guys out of La. away from LSU - so i think the Tigers have a really good shot to add Randle.
Who's starting at QB in Ann Arbor next year? And for all the heat Threet gets, the receiving corp isn't much better...
Craig Haubert (3:45 PM)
Jackson i think Tate Forcier is a very good candidate to start next year - he is a savvy football player and fits the scheme well - still expect some rough patches - but could be a better fit then what they have now and be a step in the right direction offensively.
Kevin (Amherst, MA)
Referring to an earlier question- What are Michigan's chances with Taylor Lewan?
Craig Haubert (3:46 PM)
I think Mich. has a good shot with Lewan - thinks heated up late for him - so he is still working through the process - but his Teammate Roh - is committed there and his father has Big Ten roots as he played at Minnesota - it is no slam dunk - but the Wolverines do have a good shot.
Wes (San Diego)
Do you think Clemson's recruiting picks back up anytime soon?
Craig Haubert (3:47 PM)
Not until they name a head coach!
With all the coach firings how is that affecting recruiting
Craig Haubert (3:50 PM)
Andre - it shakes things up -- many committed players start to open things back up so more players back on the market and teams with no head coach don't recruit very well (for obvious reasons) so a little less competition for a short time for certain prospects.
Tyler Kinzel Ann Arbor,MI
Will Michigan get McNeil back or get another WR
Craig Haubert (3:51 PM)
Tyler i would kiss McNeal goodbye.
Craig Haubert (3:53 PM)
That's all the time i have - got to run -- Thanks for stopping by! Also thanks to those of you who voted in our 150 poll and be sure to check out the Recruiting Insider this week on ESPNU on Thurs and Fri night - check local listings. Thanks and Later.
