Matt will be by at 3:30 p.m. ET on Thursday to take your questions!
Matthew Barnaby (3:22 PM)
Hope everyone had a good week. I'll try to get to as many questions as I can. Hopefully I'll have the answers you want to hear.
Jason, Plano, TX
Is Sean Avery the reason for Dallas' internal issues or are there other factors, ie coaching and goaltending?
Matthew Barnaby (3:24 PM)
I think Sean is a big reason why there's so much fighting in the room. But, on the ice they need Marty Turco to pick up his game and be the leader that he is. Dallas will be fine, but they must turn it around asap.
Wish you could've finished your career as a Ranger. Nobody brought more energy then you did. What do you think the Rangers can do to improve their power play its either good or horrible to the point where short handed goals keep adding up
Matthew Barnaby (3:25 PM)
New York was an awesome place to play. The Garden was the best arena I have ever played in. But I was fortunate to play in a lot of great cities and meet a lot of great friends. As for the power play, I think they need a little more despiration and they seem to have found it yesterday against the Devils.
Matthew did you see that hit Dustin Brown made on Robidas last night, it was awesome. Best hitter in the league?
Matthew Barnaby (3:27 PM)
That was a huge hit and I lvoed the way Dustin Brown plays the game. As for the best hitter in the game, Dion Phaneuf would get my nod.
Rick - Toronto, ON
Who do you think is the better man for the job in your opinion; Silver Fox or Burke?
Matthew Barnaby (3:28 PM)
I think both are very qualified. I think Brian Burke is the man they really want. But I do not know if Toronto is his best option. They are still rebuilding and a long ways from being a contender.
Ryan (Phoenix, AZ)
The Coyotes have looked pretty good recently, winning 5 out of their last 6. What is your take on the team and how far they can go this season?
Matthew Barnaby (3:30 PM)
I have watched a lot of the Coyotes games and they are a very exciting team to watch. The addition of Jokinen and the emergence of so many great young players will make them a competitive team for a long time.
Josh: ( Lewistown, Pa.):
What do you believe the Penguins must do to improve their defensive performance to make another run at the Stanley Cup?
Matthew Barnaby (3:31 PM)
The Penguins first, and foremost, must get Sergei Gonchar and Ryanm Whittney back in the lineup from injury. If they can hang around, like they are, these addition will be huge.
Jon - Athens, Oh
Do you think the addition of Marian Hossa to the Red Wings over the off season has affected the chemistry of the team so far? I know i was a little skeptical of them splitting up Pavel and Hank at the beginning of the season.
Matthew Barnaby (3:32 PM)
Not at all. I think adding Hossa was the best free agent signing anyone did. He has fit in well, and the team with the leaders they already have will be even stronger as the season goes on.
Carmine (Emmitsburg, MD)
I remember when you played with the Rangers. I went to a game and you scored the game winning goal on a feed from Nedved against the Penguins. The Garden went NUTS! Hope all is well. What do you think of the Rangers now?
Matthew Barnaby (3:34 PM)
Thanks for the comments. Rangers with Gomez, Drury, and Redden look great. Their goaltending gives them a chance on any night. But what I love the most, is Tom Renney. He holds players accountable, has structure, and has created a winning attitude.
I been wondering why the avalanche did not resign Theodore in the offseason. Also can the aves make the playoffs with Budaj and Raycroft.
Matthew Barnaby (3:36 PM)
The Avalanche will consistenly struggle all year with their goaltending tandem. I do not think either one is a legit No. 1. Jose Theodore got more money than I think they thought he would or think that he deserves. But I bet they wish they had him back right now.
Cody (Buffalo, NY)
Do you think Thomas Vanek can keep his hot scoring streak going and lead the Sabres deep into the playoffs? Maybe the Stanley Cup?
Matthew Barnaby (3:37 PM)
I think Thomas Vanek, right now, is the best two-way forward at this stage of the year. He has made a commitment to playing good defense, and I believe it has helped him on the offensive side of the puck. He is a true scorer and will continue to score a lot of goals. I do not consider Buffalo a Stanley Cup contender, but I think they are a solid team.
how far do you think the bruins can go this season?
Matthew Barnaby (3:38 PM)
The Bruins will go as far as Tim Thomas will take them. As one coach said, "He might be the biggest competitor at any position." They are well coached and could surprise a lot of teams along the way.
Jason from Buffalo
There is a young kid named Patrick Kaletta who grew up in Buffalo and plays ALOT like you did. He even wears the number 36, do you think you inspired him to play and is he trying to follow in your footsteps?
Matthew Barnaby (3:40 PM)
Patrick Kaletta is a player who I love to watch and reminds me a lot of myself. He works hard every night and I know Buffalo fans love him. If I had any advice for Patrick I would like to see him drop the gloves a few more times to gain a little bit more respect from players around the league.
Big Sabres fan. Who was your biggest rival while in Buffalo team & player?
Matthew Barnaby (3:40 PM)
Our biggest rival, from my days in Buffalo, were the big, bad Flyers. Lindros and co. had so many battles and so many great memories that will last a lifetime.
David - SJ CA
Let me gewt your finals prediction?
Matthew Barnaby (3:42 PM)
I will say Detroit and Montreal. San Jose is very strong, and the East have a few good teams, but I am sticking with my original picks from the start of the year.
Glenn (Cumberland, RI)
Matt, I know it's still early in the season, but the Isles have played pretty bad after 15 games. Have all they proven is what Nolan said that you can't win without talent? Or can Scott Gordon have any impact on the team's prospects?
Matthew Barnaby (3:44 PM)
It's tough to win without talent, as everyone knows. A team I look at and am impressed with is the Toronto Maple Leafs. They battle hard and do not win mnay games, but everyone knows they are in a rebuilding stage. New York Islanders follow lead, and start rebuilding for the future.
hi, are the stars going to make the playoffs and is mike modano hall of fame worthy?
Matthew Barnaby (3:46 PM)
I am going to go out on a limb and stick with dallas for making the playoffs. They have Zubov and Letinin who will add a lot of leadership and poise, this helping the Stars make the playoffs. Mike Modano is definitely Hall worthy and has been a great embassador to the game.
Matthew Barnaby (3:47 PM)
Thanks for all the questions. Sorry for those I did not get to. Enjoy a great week of hockey and may your team be on the winning end. See ya!
