Steve Muench (2:04 PM)
I hope everyone is doing well and ready to talk some football.
Thomas Edison - Schenectady, NY
Thanks for all the great work? Buffalo Bulls, do you think that Turner Gill can get them to a bowl this year and in general, do you think that Turner has done enough to turn the culture of the program around for the long haul? It seems that being such a large school, the bellwether school of the SUNY system really, that they should be able to sustain the progressive curve the Turner has initiated? thanks again
Steve Muench (2:08 PM)
They have Bowling Green and Ken State left. I think they win both those games though at Bowling Green is going to be a close one. So yes I think they could go to a bowl this year. As far as the state of the union goes Turner Gil has been outstanding job the past two years.
Steve Muench (2:10 PM)
However, Buffalo still has a long way to go and the school's lack of tradition and location make it tough to land blue chippers and will continue to do so for some time.
Archibald - Saratoga Springs, NY
Thanks for the great work? what is your opinion of Mark Herzlich from BC? The guy appears to be very big, fast and athletic and seems to make plays all over the field? what other BC players? do you prospect as NFL material? Thanks
Steve Muench (2:11 PM)
He's fun to watch huh? He's got good size, he's fast and the thing I like most about him is he always seems to be around the ball. Great instincts and motor.
Steve Muench (2:13 PM)
Other Boston College prospects include DT's BJ Raji and Ron Brace, OLB/CB Kevin Akins and TE Ryan Purvis.
I'm Ron Burgundy?
Please tell me ND beats Navy. Please.
Steve Muench (2:14 PM)
I think the Irish will avenge their loss to the Midshipmen last year but don't expect a blow out.
Rome, WV
Do you think Pat White will play in the NFL? Will he make an impact in the NFL?
Steve Muench (2:16 PM)
First of all, I don't think he will play quarterback. I think he will get chance to play receiver and he has the tools to develop into a productive sub-package receiver. So if he can develop his route running and catch the ball well I think he will make an impact though I don't think he'll ever be a No. 1 receiver.
Will J (Portland, OR)
Oregon St. or Cal?
Steve Muench (2:17 PM)
I like Oregon State at home.
Sylvain (Calgary)
Do you see Michael Crabtree becoming this generations Jerry Rice..I haven't seen anybody run such crisp routes and create seperation on a constant basis without being a burner..Whats your take? and would you use a top 10 pick on him?
Steve Muench (2:19 PM)
It's an interesting comparison and I like it because Crabtree isn't just an athlete. He's developed into a crisp route runner and few receivers do a better job of working open when the protection starts to break down. So yeah I'd use a top ten pick on him.
Joe (Baltimore)
Which Buckeye will have a bigger impact in the NFL, Malcolm Jenkins or James Laurinaitis?
Steve Muench (2:20 PM)
I think it will be Jenkins though both should have long NFL careers if they stay healthy.
Vinnie (NYC)
What has this season done to the stock of the Clemson RB's?
Steve Muench (2:23 PM)
It obviously hasn't helped but NFL front offices will put the situation in perspective. Clemson's poor offensive line play, instability at quarterback and Bowden's decision to leave have created a tough environment for Davis and Spiller to succeed.
J (DC)
Everyone knows about the Big 12 QBs, but who do you see as a sleeper pick (2nd or 3rd round maybe) having a solid NFL career?
Steve Muench (2:26 PM)
Here's a curve ball. Alabama's John Parker Wilson has emerged as an excellent game manager this year and he's shown he can make the occasional play downfield. He projects as a middle-round pick and he would be a good fit for a team that runs the ball well and plays strong defense like a Jacksonville.
Devin Tampa FL
is george slvie a top 10 pick in this yrs draft if he declares
Steve Muench (2:27 PM)
I think he goes in the first half of the first round but I'm not ready to say he's a top ten pick. A lot will depend on what juniors declare for the draft too,
Blake (Jenks, OK)
Is Sam Bradford going to break our hearts and go to the NFL? If so, is he a top ten draft pick?
Steve Muench (2:30 PM)
He will have a difficult decision to make because he could go in the top five. I hope he returns and adds ten-to-15 pounds to his frame though.
Justin (SC)
Can South Carolina contain UF enough to give their offense a chance to win the game?
Steve Muench (2:33 PM)
South Carolina is a far stronger defense than it was a year ago when Tebow hung five rushing touchdowns and two throwing touchdowns on them. However, you can;t stop Florida you can only hope to contain it and I think the Gamecocks are going to have a tough time moving the ball on the Gators so I think Florida wins comfortably.
Devin (tampa FL)
do u have a sleeper QB for this yrs draft?
Steve Muench (2:36 PM)
How about Chris Pizzotti from Harvard. He's got prototypical size, he's accurate and he puts good zip on his throws. He's also mobile enough to make the occasional play with his feet.
Orville (Lubbock, TX)
Will the 2-week layoff be enough for Oklahoma's top defensive players to heal & be ready to play against Texas Tech?
Steve Muench (2:38 PM)
I think so. I freely admit I underestimated the Red Raiders earlier this year but I like Oklahoma to win a very close game.
Hugh (SC)
Do you think CJ Spiller will hang around for his senior year or will he head to the NFL? He says he plans to come back but im not to convinced.
Steve Muench (2:39 PM)
It's tough to say but which underclassmen backs declare, how many declare and, most importantly in my opinion who is going to be the next head coach at Clemson should all factor into his decision.
Steve Muench (2:41 PM)
You can never put too much stock in what an underclassmen says during the season because emotions run too high. It's not until after the season ends that a player can sit down with his family, coaches and friends to make an objective decision concerning his future.
Devin (tampa FL)
Who do u got in the BAMA-UF sec title game?
Steve Muench (2:43 PM)
I played offensive line in college and I am a firm believer that teams that win the battles in the trenches almost always win the game. So I have a difficult time picking against Alabama for that reason but I like Florida to win in what again will be a very close game. The Gators are on a roll.
Nubbs ( Big Rock Road, MN)
Do you beleive Tim Tebow has the passing skills to be successful at the NFL level?
Steve Muench (2:47 PM)
I think he has the arm strength and accuracy but it;s just as important for NFL quarterbacks to locate the open man and get the ball out of his hands quickly. Florida's scheme essentially simplifies Tebows reads and he has more carries than passing attempts over the course of his last two games. In other words, he has a steeper learning curve and teams will likely see him a developmental prospect if he declares for the draft.
Steven, Austin
Thanks for finally giving the Red Raiders some love!! What makes you pick OU, besides the game is in norman? By the way, where is norman?
Steve Muench (2:50 PM)
I think Oklahoma is going to find ways to get to Harrell even if it means it gets scorched for a few big plays. I think the Sooners will press their receivers on the outside and blitz early and often. It makes sense because Texas Tech is going to move the ball just like Oklahoma is going to move the ball. So you might as well gamble and try to knock Harrell off his rhythm.
Josh Oklahoma
Do you believe that Texas Tech's offense really is just a gimmick and can be haulted by a team with a real defense?
Steve Muench (2:55 PM)
Not at all and one of the biggest reasons is the Red Raider offensive line. The front five have played exceptionally well giving Harrell enough time to locate the open man and the receivers enough time to get open. They also do a good job of opening up holes for RB Shannon Woods. Now that doesn't mean this offense is unstoppable. You can get disrupt Harrell's timing with consistent pressure and you have to have athletes capable of holding their own in coverage. I think that a team like Oklahoma or USC are capable of doing it but I also think those defenses would have still have to turn in one of their best performances of the year.
Kim, Ohio
Buckeyes QB Pryor. Heisman or over hyped next year?
Steve Muench (2:55 PM)
I think he can compete for the Heisman next year.
Trey (El Dorado, Arkansas)
What kind of job recruiting is Bobby Petrino doing this year at Arkansas?
Steve Muench (2:58 PM)
He's gotten verbal commitments from two of the top corner prospects in the nation, five offensive lineman and RB Knile Davis who is a strong runner for his size and has good top-end speed.
Otto (CA)
What do you think of Brady Quinn's performance so far?
Steve Muench (3:02 PM)
One game is one game Otto. He's got to prove he can do it consistently and I think he will. I also think it's interesting that no one is bashing me for standing my ground and saying he's going to be a good starter the past two weeks. Every chat I have had since he's been drafted someone has sent some kind of a negative comment about him to me. I think someone owes me a steak dinner if he goes to the pro bowl. You remember that?
Sara (Raleigh, NC)
Who will be the first DE to go in the draft? Orakpo?
Steve Muench (3:03 PM)
I think so but McShay thinks Everette Brown of Florida State will be the first to go if he declares so we disagree on this one.
steve (SoCal)
STEVE....Sorry for calling you josh, Steve!!..please answer one of my questions..thank you
Steve Muench (3:07 PM)
No problem. I have been called worse. I've been called worse in this room actually. And I think one of your questions deals with how well is the USC defense is playing versus how strong is the Pac 10 this year. I think that defense is for real. The defensive line may be overrated by some but best linebacker corps in the country and an excellent secondary.
Vinnie (NYC)
How many copies do you think the new Guns N' Roses album will sell in its first week of release?
Steve Muench (3:07 PM)
Is it still guns and roses if it's just Axl?
Steve Muench (3:08 PM)
Alright that's it for this week. Have a great weekend, watch the games and I will see you back here next Friday.
