Chat with Jayski

Howard, Bristow
Could we see a race next year where at least 43 cars did not show up? How many full time teams have sponsor ship issues? Does Stewart Hass have a second sponsor to go with Army on the 39 car?
Jayski (1:00 PM)
Sure we could, it's been a few years, but we could see that for sure, but I think there will be teams like Front Row or EM Motorsports show up to help fill the field and get a shot at running some races. Looks like 10-12 teams are needing some sort of sponsorship; No announcement for the 2nd sponsor for the #39
Rattman(Almont,Mi)
Which track is most similar in characteristics to Homestead?
Jayski (1:01 PM)
Homestead is it's own animal, the old Atlanta layout before the added the dog leg would had been closest, I would guess Michigan or California is closest in term or banking and the sweeping turns
becka,va
is it true that kyle hit reed and that is what caused reed's wreck
Jayski (1:02 PM)
you mean with the car I imagine? yep, he got loose and ran up into Reed, didn't look intentional to me
New Bern, NC
hello what do you think of ABC's decision to pull the race - are they a bunch of money grubin fools or what?
Jayski (1:04 PM)
honestly? I think it sucked, not sure what the contractual issues are with it, to folks home watching it, not a super big deal as most have ESPN2, but the poor folks who recorded the race, missed the last 20 or so laps.
lynn,va
what is the coolest thing about a native new jerseying
Jayski (1:04 PM)
not sure what ya mean, but being a Phillies fan would rate up there right now
Jeff (Rochester NY)
Do you think that there could be any reprecussions if Hendrick decided to have all of their drivers (if they qualify BKes) retire after the first lap (sans JJ)? I know it is an extreme measure, but wouldn't that greatly help him with this already superb chances to win a 3rd in a row?
Jayski (1:06 PM)
i doubt there would be any fines, repercussions would be lost respect and ticked off drivers and crews. plus you have Gordon and Dale Jr fighting to stay in the top 10 and going to NYC
Scott (Houston)
What does The Dinger have to do to get a team to sign him? I know the economies of the sport are changing and teams/rides are in short supply for 2009. However, there has to be some place that can use a driver.
Jayski (1:08 PM)
If he keeps doing what he is doing, he has a good shot at a ride, the problem is, not many ride available, all the merger rumors leaves folks not knowing exactly what is open and not. No idea what AJ is asking in salary either and with this economy that is a big deal now
Howard, Bristow
Will we see more of Ambrose next year in the Sprint Cup series?
Jayski (1:08 PM)
of course we will, as posted and announced, he is running the full season in 2009
lynn,fl
if the 10 was in the top 35 after homestead would reed still have to qualify for the 500 next year
Jayski (1:10 PM)
nope, the top-35 is OWNERS Points, not drivers, it would be the #10 team, and whoever the driver would be, would get in the race and the first five of 2009
Joshua (Ferguson, Ky)
Okay if at the start of the season I had said Kyle Busch and Carl Edwards would each have as many wins as all of Hendrick Motorsports would have by 35 races and that Jeff Gordon would not have a win through 35 races I would have ben laughed at because of last year. yet that did happen. so is Jeff Gordon a canadate for biggest disapointment of 2008 or is Kyle Busch because of him dropping off the face of the planet during the chase, or is Juan Pablo Montoya the biggest disppointment for not really imporving this season. and who is the biggest surprise this season David Regan? or is someone else the biggest surprise of 2008?
Jayski (1:13 PM)
Ragan would be the surprise of the year in my book, disappointments could be many, the open wheel guys not doing well and some are gone already, the lack of sponsorship, everyone knew this would be a transition year for DaleJr, so what he has done is not a huge disappointment or surprise; Gordon is somewhat a disappointment for not winning.
Andy (Toledo, OH)
Jayski - A month or two back, Darian Grubb was announced to be the crew cheif for Tony Stewart in the No. 14 for 2009. Now, yesterday there were rumors posted on your site, as well reported on TV, that Jeff Mendeering will be named the crew chief. What's the status on Grubb and this entire situation?
Jayski (1:14 PM)
You miss read or misheard or both, Meendering will be Stewart CAR chief, not crew chief
Howard, Bristow
question to Jayski... is the #20 paint scheme staying the same next year or are they going to the predominantly white scheme. Much love my man!
Jayski (1:15 PM)
see my 2009 Paint Scheme page for your answer, I have the 2009 scheme posted
VA
Who, not in the chase this year do you think takes the next step next year -- Ragan, Ruetimann, Vickers? Can MWR end up in victory lane next year?
Jayski (1:16 PM)
Vickers and Ragan could break into it, Montoya could if he gets better equipment, I doubt we will see Mikey in victory lane again, but Reutimann could break into the top 15-20 and pull off a win
lynn,fl
so you are saying that reed can go from one year making races (41) to not (10)
Jayski (1:19 PM)
yep, unless GEM buys another team and transfer the points, like the rumored buy of the #22 team. The #41 in 2009 has nothing to do with Reed as he will be in the #10. Whatever driver gets the #41 ride will be guaranteed the first five races, unless it falls out of the top 35 after Homestead
Howard, Bristow
question to jayski... with prior question about enough cars showing up... could NASCAR increase the number of guaranteed racing slots to 40? Wouldn't that help out?
Jayski (1:19 PM)
have heard nothing about top-35 changes
Andy (Toledo, OH)
Thanks Jayski, bad on my part - I misread the report. Also, do you have any more insight on the displeasure that Denny Hamlin aired this past weekend about the politics going on internally at Joe Gibbs Racing?
Jayski (1:20 PM)
have not heard much else about that, just Denny mouthing off I guess, he doesn't seem too happy there of late
Howard, Bristow
question to Jayski... I am trying to find a good website that lists everything I need to know about NASCAR and its silly season... do you know of one I can go to?
Jayski (1:20 PM)
yep. http://www.jayski.com
Joshua (Ferguson, Ky)
Thanks for answering my question. Okay here's another one. If GM is forced to pull out of Nascar where does that leave it's 15 or 16 cup level cars and drivers.
Jayski (1:26 PM)
they said they will be back in 2009, it would leave them looking for new manufacturers, am sure Toyota would love scooping up RCR or Hendrick
Jayski (1:30 PM)
Thats it for me, one more week, then the off season, have a great week!!
