Chris Low (1:01 PM)
OK, I'm here, so fire away.
What a job Bobby Johnson has done at Vandy! What are the chances he leaves for Clemson?
Chris Low (1:03 PM)
You're right. He's done a marvelous job in a season in which the Commodores were breaking in a lot of new players. He's on Clemson's list, but I don't think Bobby will flirt with them unless it's obvious to him that he's right there at the top of their list.
Hey, Chris, here's an interesting tid bit for you. BYU and Tennessee shared two common opponents - UCLA and Wyoming. Tennessee lost to both. BYU beat both by the combined score of 103-0. BYU has a game slot to fill next year. Should they schedule Tennessee for homecoming?
Chris Low (1:06 PM)
That is a heck of a stat. Something tells me Tennessee won't be playing BYU anytime soon. The Vols' A.D., Mike Hamilton, has already loaded up the non-conference schedule for the next decade, making things even tougher on the next coach (or coaches). Oklahoma, Oregon, Nebraska, Ohio State and North Carolina all come on the Vols' schedule in the next 10-12 years.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Mr. Low: Is it just me or aside from maybe three teams is the SEC a pretty average conference this season?
Chris Low (1:08 PM)
Overall, I do think the SEC is a tad down, although extremely good at the top. I'd put Bama, Florida and Georgia against the top three teams from any other conference in the country, including the Big 12. What hurts the SEC this year is Auburn and Tennessee being so bad, and LSU has also underachieved.
John (oxford, MS)
I know you justify ranking Ole Miss 7th right now because of head to head losses with Vanderbilt and South Carolina, but can you honestly say those two teams are playing better than the Rebels now? You dropped Ole Miss in the rankings despite the fact they had the largest margin of victory (59 points) of any SEC team in any game this year. Last week you ranked Vanderbilt below Ole Miss but because Kentucky gives them a game they jump back up to fifth, don't forget Ole Miss Christmas wrapped their win over us too with 6 turnovers. South Carolina is at least some what defensible since they have played better as the season progressed but they still got beat like a drum by Florida this weekend.
Chris Low (1:12 PM)
I went back and forth on spots 5, 6 and 7 this week. I kept coming back to the fact that Vanderbilt beat Ole Miss in Oxford and also beat South Carolina. Ole Miss also lost to South Carolina at home. That's two home losses for the Rebels, who I agree seem to be playing their best right now. As I pointed out, it will all work itself out. If Ole Miss keeps winning, the Rebels will definitely be an upper tier SEC team at season's end.
peyton atlanta, ga
Do you believe that Georgia d coordinator Willie Martinez saved his job this past week against Auburn?
Chris Low (1:14 PM)
I really don't think Martinez's job was in trouble. But even if it was, I can't see how you would save it just because you held one of the worst offenses in the country to 13 points.
Chad (Manassas, VA)
You'd take Georgia against Oklahoma, the third team in the Big 12? I'll lay a years salary on that game. I'll lay half a year on Missouri or Oklahoma State over Georgia too. When will the SEC apologists take a good look without blinders?
Chris Low (1:15 PM)
When the SEC stops winning BCS national championships.
USC wins ugly and they are the best team in the country, but just playing down to their opponent. Alabama wins ugly and they are overrated. Justify this hypocrisy.
Chris Low (1:17 PM)
Who says USC is the best team in the country? Alabama is ranked No. 1 in all the polls and will be playing for the national title if the Tide wins its next two games..
Alan Arlington, VA
Chris, The way Florida has been playing, how can they not be ahead of UT in the BCS. Ok, UT has a good team but Florida is just crushing opponents. Do you think Big 12 Offense is that good or a relflection of the poor defenses they play against?
Chris Low (1:21 PM)
Texas' only loss was to the No. 2 ranked team in the country right now (Texas Tech) and it came on the road on a last-second TD. Florida lost at home to unranked Ole Miss. I think you have to consder those factors when ranking the teams. That said, yes, I think Florida is playing better than anybody in the country right now.
Chris, do you think Vandy can wiggle their way into the Peach Bowl with a win over UT, or do they need to beat Wake as well?
Chris Low (1:22 PM)
If Vanderbilt can win its next two games over Tennessee and Wake Forest, I think the Commodores would have a shot at the Chick-fil-A Bowl. I don't see them going to the Music City Bowl, because it's right there in Nashville. Right now, I'd say the Independence Bowl may be their most likely destination.
Josh (Acworth, GA)
Nobody is giving Bama a shot, do you think they have a legit chance at beating the Gators... Roll Tide!
Chris Low (1:23 PM)
Nobody? I give the Tide a shot. Any team that physical with that kind of defense and a coach the caliber of Saban is going to have a shot against anybody they play. There's a reason Bama is 11-0 right now.
Al, (Dallas, TX)
Chris, Texas Tech or OU?
Chris Low (1:24 PM)
I'm picking the Sooners in that one, which will really make things crazy in the Big 12, huh?
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Mr. Low: In your opinion, what SEC teams have the best offense, defense, and special teams, respectively?
Chris Low (1:26 PM)
Offense=Florida. Defense=Alabama (with a healthy Cody). Special teams=Florida.
Michael - Temple, OK
Big 12 three way tiebreaker is BCS. How do you see the standings if TT loses to OU?
Chris Low (1:28 PM)
I've been debating that the last few days with some of my ESPN cohorts. My guess is that Texas would squeeze out the highest BCS ranking, and I say that because I think most voters at that point would be hesitant to rank Oklahoma higher in the polls when Texas beat Oklahoma by 10 points at a neutral site.
Chris, who are your top 5 Heisman picks as of today?
Chris Low (1:29 PM)
1. Harrell 2. McCoy 3. Tebow 4. Bradford 5. Crabtree.
Does Tebow hang around for his senior year or go pro?
Chris Low (1:31 PM)
I think he may hang around for his senior season, because I just don't think he will project high enough in the minds of NFL scouts to justify coming out early.
Bob: Savannah' Ga
Chris: Cowherd has said (pretty much) all year that he thought Georgia was still a year away from an NC - given the key O-line and D-line injuries, it appears he's right. Your thoughts?
Chris Low (1:33 PM)
Not if Matthew Stafford and Knowshon Moreno don't come back. I think Stafford will be a top 5-10 pick and definitely will come out. And if Stafford leaves, I think that could influence Moreno to leave.
Why do you think Bama has a better D than Florida? Florida is better statistically, and just keeps forcing turnovers
Chris Low (1:35 PM)
That's a toss-up between two really good defensive teams. I think Bama, with a healhy Cody, is better up front. McClain and Spikes are both great linebackers, and both secondaries have made big plays. Having a senior leader and player like Rashad Johnson in your secondary is a huge bonus.
Which Gator team do you think is/was the best and why? 1996, 2006, 2008, other?
Chris Low (1:40 PM)
1996 team. Not even close. Go look at how many of those players played in the NFL, Heck, some of them are still playing. Great WRs, great RBs, Heisman Trophy QB who played the position exactly the way Spurrier wanted it played and a fearsome defense
What do you see happening with the LSU qb situation? Jordan Jefferson got his first taste of game play last weekend.
Chris Low (1:41 PM)
I can't imagine that they wouldn't just keep increasing Jefferson's snaps the rest of the season. His redshirt year is gone. Play him and see what he's got.
Chris. If i gave you the stats of 2 teams over the past 4 weeks and just named them Team A & B, the team you would pick would most likely be OU. They are putting up ridiculous numbers in the 1st and just run the clock out in the 2nd half yet dont get the love UF or USC get. care to explain?
Chris Low (1:44 PM)
The Sooners will get plenty of love if they take down Texas Tech and Oklahoma State these two weeks, maybe enough love to send them all the way to the BCS National Championship Game.
Can South Carolina still have a 9 win season?
Chris Low (1:46 PM)
I think so. They'll have to win at Clemson and then the bowl game, probably a Big Ten team in the Outback Bowl. Winning nine games at South Carolina would be no small accomplishment. It's only been done twice (9 or more) in school history.
Even though Alabama is number 1 in the polls, Vegas has Southern Cal as a favorite over everyone and anyone were they to play in the national championship.
Chris Low (1:48 PM)
Like Coach Spurrier said the other day, too bad we don't have a playoff where we might see a Florida-Southern California matchup. He said he'd pay to see it, and I would, too.
Chris, still think Bama has no shot of going undefeated in the SEC? I recall you mentioning earlier in the season that you thought no one would go undefeated in the SEC. Roll Tide!
Chris Low (1:50 PM)
Don, you are right. I did say that. Auburn's the only team that can save me now, and I don't see that happening. Alabama's really zoned in right now.
loved the changes in attitude post, with that said, how about a quick friendly departure from college football... what's your favorite jimmy buffett song?
Chris Low (1:51 PM)
Same as Coach Meyer -- It's Five O'Clock Somewhere ...
Out of the teams that are still capable of going to the national championship, which team do you think would give Florida or Alabama the biggest challenge?
Chris Low (1:52 PM)
In order, Southern California, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Texas
Bob (Atlanta, GA0
What are your thoughts on Ole Miss' bowl destination? Could we see them here in the Chick-fil-A?
Chris Low (1:54 PM)
Yes, that's where I would project Ole Miss right now if the Rebels can win at least one of their last two games against LSU and Miss. State.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Isn't there just a small part of you that would like to see PSU face Alabama in a bowl game? That was always a great rivalry when Bear was at 'Bama.
Chris Low (1:56 PM)
Alabama and Penn State actually have a home-and-home series scheduled in the next couple of years.
How do you put a USC team that struggled half a game with Stanford above any of the big three in the Big 12?
Chris Low (1:56 PM)
More defensive talent across the board.
Matt (Pcola, FL)
Chris, do you think it was smart for LSU to burn Jefferson's red shirt for just 1.5 games?
Chris Low (1:58 PM)
No, I don't understand it at all. If you're going to burn the redshirt, play him in some games that count. Give him a chance to help you. You can still bring him along slowly doing that.
If vandy beats UT they are guaranteed no worse than a 5th place finsih in the SEC - why do you think they end up in the Independence Bowl?
Chris Low (2:00 PM)
Because I think the Chick-fil-A will take Ole Miss and the Music City will want a team from outside Nashville.
Trent: Tuscaloosa, AL
Do you think Andre Smith and Terrance Cody are going to enter the draft?
Chris Low (2:01 PM)
Andre Smith for sure. Cody might choose to hang around since he's only been at Bama for one year. I wonder, too, how this latest injury might impact his decision.
NICK GREAT FALLS MT
IF BAMA LOOSES BEFORE THE FL GAME AND FL WINS WILL THAT BE ENOUGH O GIVE FL A TITLE SHOT ????
Chris Low (2:02 PM)
Yes, the Gators control their own destiny. If they win out, they will get one of the two spots in the BCS standings.
Do you think LSU is locked into the Cotton Bowl? Or could Ole Miss get the invitation with a victory in Baton Rouge this weekend?
Chris Low (2:05 PM)
No, I don't think LSU is locked in. If Ole Miss wins out and finishes 8-4, including a win over LSU, I think the Rebels shoot way up there on the Cotton Bowl's list. Plus, I think the Ole Miss fans will really travel well considering the Rebels haven't been to a bowl since 2003.
Chris Low (2:06 PM)
Thanks, Always a lot of fun. These next few weeks should be a blast.
