Bruce Feldman (4:00 PM)
Thanks for joining me.. Great week of games coming up. I'm excited to be heading to Norman this weekend.
Brad (Gadsden,Alabama)
Bruce, Who has the best student section?
Bruce Feldman (4:01 PM)
I always hear Penn State. I'll just say the consistently loudest stadium I've been in is Lane Stadium at VT.
Ken
Bruce, I enjoyed your article about best brother combos. How about the Pouncey Twins at Florida?
Bruce Feldman (4:02 PM)
Thanks. They're good but it'd be hard to bump one of those others for them since neither will be an all-American this season and I doubt both will make first-team all-SEC.
Bradford (Boise, ID)
Bruce, Colin Kaepernick gave us fits last year in his first career start as a red shirt freshmen. I assume we had little to no game plan for him at the time..? Do you see him giving us as much trouble this weekend? Thanks.
Bruce Feldman (4:04 PM)
Kaepernick is a stud. He's going to give everyone fits.
Jason (DC)
Bruce, what is you take on the Clemson job? Will Foster be leaving VT for the Tigers?
Bruce Feldman (4:04 PM)
Foster is deserving, but I think Clemson waits to see what happens with Tuberville and Auburn.
Daniel (Houston, Tx)
I heard you on todays podcast about how I-A head coaches have a shelf life, of 7-10 years. My question is what about coaches like Mac Brown or Bob Stoops, who have been at their current jobs for 10+ years?
Bruce Feldman (4:06 PM)
I think if Mack hadn't won the title a few years ago, lots of folks would be talking about running him out. And that's crazy since he's really brought UT back.
Mike (Camarillo, CA)
Bruce, love your work! It seems like your colleagues are saying USC needs a miracle to get into the title game. Based upon what happened last year (LSU jumping Georgia in the final poll), don't you think if USC wins out and Missouri wins the Big 12 South (not that big of a stretch), then USC gets the nod opposite the SEC Champ? Also, you can flip that to FL losing to FSU at TLHSE, and then beating AL. Agree?
Bruce Feldman (4:08 PM)
Thanks.. not so sure of that. I'm not convinced USC would be taken ahead of other 11-1 teams from the Big 12 who would have more wins over top 15 teams.
Bruce Feldman (4:09 PM)
Erik..edit your Shonn question down. Then I'll answer it. tx
Rhett , Austin, TX
you really hate texas don't you. Your an idiot for what you just said about texas running mack out of here. You need to go look at your facts. What he has done here has been impressive.
Bruce Feldman (4:10 PM)
Huh? Go back and read what I just wrote. I think you misunderstood it.
chris potomac
Who do you think will win tonights Kent State v. No. Ill. Game?
Bruce Feldman (4:11 PM)
I'll go with Kent State. Their QB is a threat both running and passing.
Stephen (Knoxville, TN)
Its been about two weeks now since Phil Fulmer was forced out. Is there any word on who the most likely person is to succed him.
Bruce Feldman (4:13 PM)
Heard they're looking for a "proven winner".. that would be Leach among the games supposedly in the mix IF Butch Davis is telling the truth that he's not interested.. I think Kiffin thinks he has a decent shot at it.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Mr. Feldman: Do you think that the Rose Bowl officials might secretly be hoping that Oregon State and Michigan State slip up? A PSU-USC matchup is much better all-around than MSU v OSU, right?
Bruce Feldman (4:14 PM)
I think you're probably right. Fair or not, it would draw much bigger TV ratings.
Justin (Oregon)
What are do think about Quizz Rodgers, Now and in the Future? Are you suprized about Oregon State with they way they played this year after losing most of there team last year?
Bruce Feldman (4:15 PM)
Thanks...Mike Riley and his staff have done a GREAT job. They lost almost the whole D and the Rodgers brothers have been superb. I didn't believe they'd keep winning but they've really matured as a team.
Rick Neuheisel (Los Angeles, CA)
Do you think I need to recruit JUCO players to get a quick fix and stop the bleeding?
Bruce Feldman (4:16 PM)
Good luck finding ones you can get into UCLA. Next to Stanford, UCLA is the toughest school in the Pac-10 to get players into.
Tyler Coffee (Ann Arbor)
Is Rich Rod the answer to our program. We have better recruits than WV has ever had. Yet we loose to TOLEDO?!?!? The BIG10 is weak this year and we can't even go .500.
Bruce Feldman (4:17 PM)
Be patient. Rodriguez struggled everywhere he's been in Year I. He's a great coach and can really develop talent. Michigan will be fine.
Adam Browtaine (Detroit)
Who's the best football team in the state of Michigan?
Bruce Feldman (4:17 PM)
Right now.. probably State.
Erik (MN)
Give me any reason that Shonn Greene from Iowa doesn't get invited to NYC as a Heisman Finalist. He won't win due to team record, but Iowa still most likely will be 8-4. He has run for 100+ yards in every game this year, including over 200 yards in 2 of the last 4 games. The guy has been the most consistent player in the nation showing up week in and week out. I dare you to look for a "down" game that he has had over the course of the season. Now, please provide your argument against him getting an invite cause I sure as heck can't find one.
Bruce Feldman (4:19 PM)
He's having a great year, and you're right. He's been incredibly consistent, but so have those QBs from the Big 12 teams and so is Tebow and a few other guys. Crabtree is having an amazing year and I doubt he gets invited to NYC. It's a function of Iowa not being stronger right now.
Dan (Houston)
Bruce,Do you travel around college towns like Pat Forde does, and if so, What are your favorite eateries? Thanks
Bruce Feldman (4:22 PM)
I do. I am partial to BBQ. I could eat it seven days a week. My favorite place that I've been to is Ajax in Oxford. Heaviest food ever. You feel bigger than Jerrell Powe when you leave there... I once had a great breakfast right down the street from the stadium in Madison but I dont recall the name of that little diner.
Larry (Glendale, CA)
Coach of the Year?
Bruce Feldman (4:23 PM)
I'm going to name a few options:Saban, Leach, Tim Brewster, Mario Cristobal, Mike Riley and Cutcliffe. I also think Chris Petersen deserves mention here too.
Kevin (Seattle)
Can Oregon State keep Mark Banker?
Bruce Feldman (4:25 PM)
Not sure.. He's like the Bud Foster of the West... Great DC who always gets his guys playing by mid season regardless of who he lost from the previous team.
Matt : (Orlando, FL)
Hi Bruce... I think Coach Shannon at Miami might deserve some coach of the year honors too. He has done a nice job with those freshman.
Bruce Feldman (4:25 PM)
He has. Getting Bill Young to take over the D was a shrewd pick up and he's handled the QBs pretty well it seems.
Bruce (Dallas)
How about Mack Brown - picked 3rd or 4th in Big 12 South with 3-4 losses?
Bruce Feldman (4:26 PM)
Good point. I've written I think more people need to give Greg Davis a lot of credit for this offense. It's not like Colt has a supporting cast loaded with first-day picks on this group. It's been impressive what theyve done there.
C. One (Spur, Texas)
Bruce, Baylor was up on my Aggies by 34 points this weekend. 34 POINTS!!! Can you give me any reason to be optimistic about AandM football right now?
Bruce Feldman (4:27 PM)
Yeah, you're playing so many freshmen and sophomores and it's their first year in a new system with new coaches. Be patient.
Clay (Oakland, CA)
Does 'Quizz have any competition for Pac 10 offensive POY honors?
Bruce Feldman (4:28 PM)
I don't think so.
Thomas (Atlanta, GA)
Very curious that Will Muschamp's name hasn't been mentioned at TN (or Clemson). He's a proven DC, mentored under great coaches, and has recruited the South (and played at UGA). Your thoughts.
Bruce Feldman (4:29 PM)
It's been mentioned some. Thing is it's hard when guys are in the middle of a title race to get out there much for the interviewing process.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
I'm predicting a 4-2 final in the Apple Cup Saturday. Do you have a prediction?
Bruce Feldman (4:30 PM)
I'll say Washington wins 13-10.. it's not like these are great defenses either.
Nick (FL)
Bruce - Do you like Tim Tebow's chances at another Heisman considering that Bradford, Harrell, Crabtree, and McCoy will likely split the votes in their region and Tebow should carry his?
Bruce Feldman (4:33 PM)
Tebow's got a shot..what I think will be tough is if OU wins this weekend, Bradford probably jumps to #1 and if Tech wins I think Harrell stays on top. And if not you still have Colt right there. I think they might split the region but even if Tebow carries the South there's so many other places I think that will go to the Big 12 QB du jour.
ted(Gainesville,FL)
my questions never get answered
Bruce Feldman (4:33 PM)
what is it, Ted?
Counter argument by Erik (MN)
I knew that was going to be the argument. Iowa has lost 4 games by a total of 12 points. One could easily make the argument that they could be 11-0 at this point. If Iowa doesn't have Greene, how many games do they win this year? I bet 99% of America couldn't name 2-3 other players on Iowa's team, yet I can name at least 5 from each of the Big 12 teams and Florida. Point is, he the best player in college football this season and has the biggest impact on his teams opportunity for success, which the same can't be said of the other players because of the amount of talent around them.
Bruce Feldman (4:34 PM)
OK.. not that this is a counter to that, but I wonder if more than 50% of the Heisman voters have ever even heard of Shonn Green. It's sad but I have my doubts.
Josh (Tampa, Florida)
I'm with Ted. What are your thoughts on Nebraska and first year HC Bo Pelini?
Bruce Feldman (4:36 PM)
OK first year. He's got a good QB in Joe Ganz. He really has to upgrade the talent level on D to get his defense to be worthy of a top 20 team. It's going to take some time.
Ted, The SLC
Bruce, thanks for taking my question: How is San Diego State not the Florida of the West? I'll hang up and read your answer off the air.
Bruce Feldman (4:38 PM)
I don't know what this means.. SD State is the Syracuse of the MWC. They can get some athletes, but they've had a hard time getting any traction and I think you need a coach there with strong ties to California recruiting.
Bradford (Bronco Country)
Bruce, Seeing that Kaepernick is going to give is fits, do you think our offense will be able to keep up against a stout Nevada run defense?
Bruce Feldman (4:40 PM)
I think Avery can do some damage plus the Broncos have a bunch of talented receivers to stretch the field. Nevada does have a great young speed rusher, but if they can contain him, I think Boise should win, but it'll be a fun game to watch.
Bruce (Dallas)
Texas just announced that Will is staying and will eventually become the head coach - here is link:http://www.mackbrown-texasfootball.com/
Bruce Feldman (4:41 PM)
Nice!.. The University of Texas has struck an agreement with Defensive Coordinator Will Muschamp that will keep him in Austin and eventually lead him to the head coaching position for the Longhorns, Athletics Director DeLoss Dodds said on Tuesday. Details of the contract are still being finalized but it will start with Muschamp's salary being raised to $900,000 on January 1, 2009.
Bruce Feldman (4:42 PM)
And I thought he was kidding..
Bruce Feldman (4:43 PM)
I do like Muschamp. He's a very well respected coach with a ton of passion. I think he'll do well there. That's obviously a great job. I'm sure he'll learn well about being a top guy under Mack, who is one of the classiest people in that business.
Nathan (Santa Cruz CA)
Bruce,I read that you're a BBQ fanatic. I know Blackledge profiled Van's Pig Stand when they were in Norman last. It's good and has a great OU decor scheme, but you should try Swadley's. He's a local guy with a few spots in OKC, there are 2 or 3 locations on the way from the airport to Norman. SW 89th and Western, also one in Moore just off I-35. This guy knows his Q, for real.
Bruce Feldman (4:44 PM)
Thanks. I'll try and check it out.
Bruce Feldman (4:45 PM)
JAson from TX..what is it?
Will (Tampa, Fl)
Isn't it scary that FL is probably a year ahead of where evryone thought they would be. Most people had them competeing for a NC next year with Tebow as a sr. Could it possibly be back to back titles for Meyer and tebow and co.
Bruce Feldman (4:46 PM)
Let's let them win one first and then worry about repeats. Who knows if Tebow and or Harvin come back. A lot could change without Tebow running the show.
Kyle (denver)
BYU or Utah? do you care?
Bruce Feldman (4:47 PM)
I care... I think Utah.
CT (IL)
Who would you pick to win the Doak Walker award?
Bruce Feldman (4:48 PM)
I think it's a four man race with Green, Ringer, Brown and Knowshon. If I had to vote now I might go Green because he has carried a team and been so consistent.
JR (Vegas)
Bruce, I think Ted was saying with San Diego's beautiful city, campus, location, weather and especially co-eds, just like Florida, why the heck can't it develop a powerhouse program in any sport, especially football.
Bruce Feldman (4:49 PM)
Ah, I don't think there's a place in Florida that matches San Diego in that regard. The weather is way better than Gainesville, but it's not just about the city. It's about the support of the program and what it has to offer.
vincent(tulsa)
who is the best NFL QB prospect right now?
Bruce Feldman (4:50 PM)
Stafford or Nate Davis maybe?
Michael (Tustin, CA)
How realistic of a chance does Miami have of winning a BCS bowl game?
Bruce Feldman (4:51 PM)
It's possible. They have a ton of speed and so much young talent that keeps getting better every week. The issue is how consistent can their rookie QBs be?
Dave (Rutherford, NJ)
Who is coaching at Syracuse next year?
Bruce Feldman (4:52 PM)
My hunch is it's probably an assistant type: UF's Steve Adazzio or The Vikings Kevin Rogers.
Kurt (Kansas City, MO)
What game('s) are you most looking forward to before the bowls?
Bruce Feldman (4:53 PM)
Texas Tech-OU and then Bama-UF followed by a bunch of others.
Mindy (Wilsonville, OR.)
Bruce, Oregon is going to the Holiday Bowl. Deal with it!
Bruce Feldman (4:53 PM)
OK, I think I can.
Ryan (Cedar Rapids, Ia)
Mark it down, Teabow will not be a good NFL QB. Agreed?
Bruce Feldman (4:55 PM)
I'm not sure about that. You might be right, but I wouldn't bet against Tebow. He's a great competitor and that's a good starting point.
Matt (Georgia)
Bruce, why don't you ever answer my questions? Who is the best NFL WR prospect right now? No matter what class. (cough cough)A.J. Green(cough cough)
Bruce Feldman (4:56 PM)
Crabtree. He's the most physical and he's great after the catch. Not to say Green, Julio, DeAndre and Floyd won't be great, but Crabtree is the best one right now.
Jack - Tulsa
Bruce - if OU wins out and the Big 12 South ends in a 3 way tie. Who do you think goes to the CCG and why?
Bruce Feldman (4:57 PM)
My hunch is Oklahoma.
Daniel (Housotn)
If you had to buy stock in a QB that you wouldn't sell for 15 years, who's would you buy?
Bruce Feldman (4:58 PM)
Bradford, although Robert Griffin might be close.
Mike (Beaver Town)
Has Dennis Erickson lost his edge, or are the Sun Devils going to start to contend soon?
Bruce Feldman (4:58 PM)
They're playing so many young guys and they've recruited well. They'll bounce back.
Jon (Beach, Va)
Please answer the Foster question
Bruce Feldman (4:59 PM)
If he doesn't get clemson, I'm not sure if there's a fit for him. I just don't see him at Syracuse and I don't see him pursuing Toledo.
Matt (Orem, UT)
Austin Collie or Brice McCain?
Bruce Feldman (5:00 PM)
McCain's the fastest guy they got but I think Collie's too tough to shut down. I just wonder how well BYU's OL holds up against Utah's great DEs.
Bruce Feldman (5:00 PM)
three more questions..
Zach (San Diego, CA)
As a non-crazy ND fan, I can't believe they could possibly go to the Gator Bowl...that is ridiculous! (also I'm sick of seeing them lose every bowl game) but anyways...shouldn't there be some rule against taking a team with such a bad record for such a good bowl...kind of like how a bowl has to take a 7-5 team over a 6-6 team?
Bruce Feldman (5:01 PM)
It's still a business first and like them or not, Notre Dame drives ratings.
Hans (FL)
Do you think the Gators should sing Charlie Strong as the future head coach, like UT did with Muschamp? Thanks
Bruce Feldman (5:02 PM)
Different deal. Meyer's not retiring in a few years. He's still pretty young.
Michael (Long Beach, CA)
Who's considered a better pro prospect (if either) Gerald McCoy or DeMarcus Granger?
Bruce Feldman (5:03 PM)
From a scout I talked to, it'd be McCoy. He's such an effort guy and a terrific athlete.
Bruce Feldman (5:03 PM)
Thanks for all the questions. Enjoy the game tonight.
