Buzzmaster (1:01 PM)
Chris will be here in 15 minutes everyone! He's getting ready for the Tennessee press conference at 2.
Chris Low (1:23 PM)
I am in route to Tennessee's campus for the Lane Kiffin press conference. I'm ready to chat.
Phillip (Atlanta, Georgia)
Is Kiffin and Co. a good pic for the Vols? Does your opinion change depending on whether Kiffin, Sr. and Orgeron come too? I've heard rumors that Bill Callahan might come too....why would the vols want Callahan after such a disaster at Nebraska?
Chris Low (1:24 PM)
First, I think his father is coming. The staff that Lane is putting together should give him every chance to succeed. Ultimately, it's going to come down to, can he hold his own in recruiting battles with Saban, Richt and Meyer?
john
for alabama to beat florida what do you think they will have to do? and also we all know the two different styles of play but how do florida and bama match up?
Chris Low (1:25 PM)
Exactly what they've done all season. Get ahead early, play with the lead, keep the football away from Florida with long drives and not give the Gators anything easy in special teams.
James Alabama
If Harvin can't play will Bama have a punchers chance?
Chris Low (1:26 PM)
I think Harvin will play. He's been a guy throughout his career who has managed to play through various injuries. It doesn't sound like, though, that he'll be 100%. And yes, that helps Alabama.
J (Arkansas)
Will Ryan Mallett step right in at QB for Arkansas next year or can Dick or Wilson win the job?
Chris Low (1:27 PM)
I think he's certainly the favorite. I know Bobby Petrino has liked the way he's looked in practice this year. The best thing about Mallett is all the good, young players it looks like he'll have around him next season.
Jeremy (Fayetteville, AR)
With the victory over LSU last Friday, do you think Arkansas has what it takes to become a favorite to win the SEC next season?
Chris Low (1:28 PM)
I don't think they'll be the favorite. But I do think they're the team that I look at right now that has the best chance to be that break out team next season, the team that goes from a losing record to an 8 or 9 win season.
Will J (Portland, OR)
Chris, if Monte can put together a defense resembling those at Tampa Bay, I think Tennessee will be a team to be reckoned with in 3 years.
Chris Low (1:30 PM)
It depends on what kind of talent they bring in for the defense. But Monte Kiffin's track record suggests that he will put defenses on the field that will be as good or better as anybody Tennessee faces. That said, the Vols had a top 10 ranked defense nationally this season and finished 5-7.
john (cincinnati)
chris, where will fulmer be next season...coaching (nd/wash) or fishing?
Chris Low (1:31 PM)
My guess is fishing. I don't think he's going to rush and get back into coaching unless it's absolutely a situation that appeals to him. It's not like he needs the money. He walks away from Tennessee with a $6 million parting gift.
Jeff (Orlando, Fl)
Chris, Who do you think will come out on top in the SEC Championship, and why?
Chris Low (1:32 PM)
I've got the Gators. While I think Alabama is capable of winning, I've got to see somebody beat Florida, given the way they've been playing the last two months, to believe it. The fact that the Gators are banged up on their defensive line and with Harvin gimpy, those factors give Alabama a better chance. I still think Florida is too strong across the board.
ryan (grapevine, tx)
Do you think that Oklahoma deserved to jump Texas?
Chris Low (1:34 PM)
That's a hard one. Had it been me, I would have voted Texas ahead of Oklahoma, based on the fact that Texas beat Oklahoma this season by double digits at a neutral site. That would have been the deciding factor for me. But I also understand that it was a three-way tie that had to be broken and that there were no easy solutions.
Chris Low (1:34 PM)
Somebody deserving was going to get left out.
Buba (Starkville)
who do you see Mississippi State hiring as their head coach??
Chris Low (1:36 PM)
Some names that might be possibilities would include: La. Tech head coach Derrick Dooley; former Clemson coach Tommy Bowden; S. Carolina DC Ellis Johnson; Florida DC Charlie Strong. Those are just a few early names to consider.
Tom (Malvern, PA)
Will Stafford and Moreno be back at Georgia next year or in the NFL?
Chris Low (1:36 PM)
If I were a Georgia fan, I would start bracing myself to be without both of those guys next season. Stafford is a top 10 pick and Moreno is a first rounder, which is why I think they'll both be gone.
Wes (UF)
So with you picking UF to win the SEC, this would put them in the NC game. Who do you see them playing?
Chris Low (1:38 PM)
Oklahoma. Based on what I've seen out of Missouri this season, I don't see Missouri holding Oklahoma under 40 points, which means you'd be looking at a Gators-Sooners national championship in that scenario.
Eric
The SEC championship game...bigger than the BCS national championship game?
Chris Low (1:39 PM)
It's going to be right up there. I think the scenario that nobody's talking about that to me is most intriguing is what if Florida beats Alabama in just a classic game that goes down to the final seconds, maybe even overtime and then Oklahoma either is upset by Missouri or barely squeeks by Missouri, why not an Alabama-Florida rematch for the national championship?
Jason (Los Angeles)
Chris, after watching USC dominate Notre Dame this weekend do you not agree that there is NOBODY in college football that could score more than 20 on these guys right now?
Chris Low (1:41 PM)
I think the Trojans have one of the best defenses in the country, but no. I think Florida would be capable. I think Oklahoma would be capable. I think Texas would be capable.
Jason (Atlanta)
Who else besides Reaves and Kiffin the Elder do you expect to be on the staff at UT? Any chance CLK keeps Coach Scott and/or Coach Drayton? Thanks
Chris Low (1:42 PM)
I doubt any of the coaches on the current staff will be retained. I think a strong possibility will be former Ole Miss coach Ed Orgeron. Maybe Florida receivers coach Billy Gonzales. And possibly a graduate assistant, Yogi Roth.
Matt (okemah, Ok)
Who is you pick for the Heisman and who do you think will win?
Chris Low (1:44 PM)
I'm in a dead heat right now between Sam Bradford and Tim Tebow. If Tebow has a big game against Alabama's defense and Florida wins the SEC title, I would lean toward picking Tebow. But Bradford's numbers are so unbelieveable that I think he's probably going to win the award.
Dave (Atlanta)
What do we make of Vandy's complete season? Do we really give them much of a chance of being in real contention of winning the East any time in the next 4 years?
Chris Low (1:45 PM)
It was a disappointing finish to the season for the Commodores. Offensively, they just couldn't sustain any kind of consistency as the year went on. But were still a couple of close losses away from being an 8-win football team. If Bobby Johnson continues to recruit good players, I think the Commodores could be a team that contends for bowls in most years.
Steve, Atlanta
Whats the story with Tuberville? Is he back or is he packing his bags?
Chris Low (1:47 PM)
I think Tuberville is going to make it. Although, the Tigers horrific performance against Alabama doesn't help his cause. In the end, I think what will happen is that he will have to make several changes to his offensive staff, but will remain as head coach, which makes next season one of those win-big-or-else type seasons for Tuberville.
Barry (TN.)
Besides QB what positions do you think Kiffin will need to recruit the hardest and will it be more difficult because of the coach change?
Chris Low (1:48 PM)
Defensive tackle. Playmakers at WR. He's got to go out and find a great QB.
Dave (Atlanta)
Will 2+ coaches get fired from the sec every year? And, is this a good thing? With so many elite programs its impossible for all of them to have successful years every year.
Chris Low (1:49 PM)
Welcome to the arms race that is the SEC. When guys are making as much money as coaches are in this league, the expectations are going to be astronomical. That's when you have this merry-go-round of coaches. I think it's only going to continue.
Chris Low (1:50 PM)
I'm here at UT's campus right now and ready to go into the press conference for Lane Kiffin. Check back later today for updates.
