Welcome to the Chat today. Scott is ready to go. Fire away!
Scott Van Pelt (12:30 PM)
Hi.
Jim
Why do you say "Fred" before the top ten plays?
Scott Van Pelt (12:31 PM)
That's John Anderson's little thing. You'll have to ask him. No idea really.
Kylie (Austin)
SVP- is there any chance... at all... that Mizzou will upset the Sooners??
Scott Van Pelt (12:33 PM)
Missouri's pass defense is ranked 116th in the country. Have you seen Oklahoma? Stranger things have happened I suppose. And Oklahoma's defense does give up points. But, it's hard to imagine them losing this opportunity that they've been given/earned depending on if you're a Sooner or a Longhorn fan.
Paul (Erie, PA)
Am I the first post?
Scott Van Pelt (12:33 PM)
What is this Perez Hilton?
Alec (Cincinnati)
SVP, have you ever stood on top of a roof and screamed "I am a golden god" then jumped into a pool?
Scott Van Pelt (12:34 PM)
No, but Almost Famous came on the other night about 2am and I was still watching it at 4. Love that flick.
Mike (Albany)
how many words per minute can you type?
Scott Van Pelt (12:34 PM)
I have no idea. But I've gotten pretty proficient with my own SVP-hyprid technique. Not pretty, but effective.
brian (scranton)
SVP after last night do you think that North Carolina can run the table this year?
Scott Van Pelt (12:35 PM)
No way. Wake is awfully good, Miami is good. Duke always raises their level of play when they meet the heels. Somebody will beat them, but it won't be on a night when Carolina plays like they did last night. They're so good it's stupid.
stan (ohio)
who knows more about cfb you or colin cowheard?
Scott Van Pelt (12:36 PM)
That's an interesting question. He knows a lot, I know a lot (I think). That might be a pickem game. Who you got?
Alec (Cincinnati)
Colin is talking about Miley Cyrus right now...
stan (ohio)
is brian kelly staying at cincy?
Scott Van Pelt (12:39 PM)
It's always a game of dominoes. The Tennessee job opened, the Notre Dame job didn't. The Auburn job opened...what job opens as a result of who leaves their job to take Auburn? He's THE hot name in an off-season that doesn't have any real sizzle to it. Whether it's now or next year, his door will continue will continue to be pounded upon.
Craig C. (Detroit)
SVP, WIll Bill Cowher save my beloved Detroit Lions next season? We love the spitter.
Scott Van Pelt (12:40 PM)
I saw Auburn fans yesterday clammoring for Cowher. Tennessee fans did the same thing. College, pro, wherever. Everyone wants him. I can't see him taking on that challenge when he will have the pick of any gig he wants.
MH (Chicago)
Who ya got taking the NFC North... not that it will matter much in the playoffs.
Scott Van Pelt (12:41 PM)
Depends on if the Williams "Twins" are available. And look at Chicago's schedule, they could win out. I'll take the Vikes, but with a greal deal of trepidation.
Rachel (GA)
Love ya but Im narrowly picking Colin. His wheel of genius picks have done better than your " winners".
rerun (su)
scott, would you be interested in coahing syracuses football team? you may be the only qualified candidate left.
Scott Van Pelt (12:42 PM)
I'm not sure my partner in crime, Mike Tirico, would allow that to happen. Or my mom, or my aunt, or the ghost of my grandfather...all of whom are proud Syracuse alums.
Bryan (Cincinnati)
SVP, do you ever carry your glock when you're wearing sweatpants?
Scott Van Pelt (12:43 PM)
Not a glock, not a supersoaker, not a sling shot. But, I did shoot a man in Reno just to watch him die.
andrea (new york)
over under on how many more days of plaxico. 10?
Scott Van Pelt (12:43 PM)
There's a lot more to come because his hearing isn't until March 31st. Plus, it will be brought up continually as the Giants have more success.
stan (ohio)
I'll take beano he knows more than both of you
Tiim (Athens)
Is Miami that good, they god run over once McClinton slapped that kid in the face?
Scott Van Pelt (12:44 PM)
That's a good basketball team. McClinton was 4 for 4 from three...and they had a big lead before that happened. He's their best player on a good team.
fred (ok)
if you had to choose now, who plays in the national championship game?
Scott Van Pelt (12:46 PM)
If you pick hot teams, EVERYONE is picking Oklahoma and Florida. If you've listened to this show, you know I have a hard time getting in line with everyone. I think 'Bama will battle on Saturday night.
Craig C. (Detroit)
Scott, Will the Lions go 0-16? If not who will fall?
Scott Van Pelt (12:47 PM)
I believe they will win the final four games and commissioner Goodell will grant them a special invite to the playoffs...and in so doing...help save face for me. Who am I kidding? They're not beating anybody.
Scott Van Pelt (12:48 PM)
What kind of idiot picks the Lions to go to the playoffs????
Rachel (GA)
Better shot at the playoffs, Cowbys or Falcons?
Scott Van Pelt (12:48 PM)
I think the Cowboys schedule is harder. Which would seem to say the Falcons, remarkably enough.
David (DC)
So how do you think the Terps men's basketball team will fare this season? The lack of any consistent big man makes me think they'll struggle a good bit on both sides of the court unless outside shots are falling.
Scott Van Pelt (12:49 PM)
That's spot on. They will have to shoot well from outside to win games. It's that simple.
Kylie (Austin)
Who you got as MVP of the NFL?
Scott Van Pelt (12:51 PM)
That's a great question. We typed several names, then erased them. I'll be absolutely honest and say I have no idea.
David Fairborn, OH
Van Peeeeeeeezzzy. What's top of your Xmas list?
Scott Van Pelt (12:52 PM)
Anything I want, I kind of just buy so my list is always a tough one. I asked for that Discovery Channel Planet Earth thing (DVD). That's pretty much it.
Bryan (Cincinnati)
SVP, back yard football games, at what age should we be moving from tackle to tag?
Scott Van Pelt (12:53 PM)
Once you get to that out of college age where you can rip an achilles. Or break a collar bone. That's cool in high school, it's just not if you have a job to go to. (I think)
ken (florida)
what do you think the score would be in a game between the lions and my gators?
Scott Van Pelt (12:54 PM)
Let's not make this mistake. How many guys on Florida's team will play in the pros? 10? on the high end? How many guys on the Detroit Lions are pros? Every one of them. Now they're not great pros, but they're pros. There's no college team that's ever beating any pro team any time any where.
Kylie (Austin)
I just bought the Planet Earth collection and it is fabulous. I highly recommend it. Just make sure you pick the narrator you want... Brit dude or "Alien" slayer.
Scott Van Pelt (12:55 PM)
How do I pick Sigourney Weaver? How do you specify?
Matt (virginia)
Hey scott, who you gonna grace with your good luck on S/C commercial next?
Scott Van Pelt (12:56 PM)
There aren't any in the can with athletes at the moment.
stan (ohio)
boise st or ohio st. who is better?
Scott Van Pelt (12:58 PM)
I don't see Ian Johnson running against that defense. The best team Boise beat this year is Oregon in a game where Oregon went through five QB's. New Mexico State, Fresno State, Idaho State ain't the same thing as Ohio State.
Scott Van Pelt (12:59 PM)
Oh...and add San Jose State and Utah State to that list.
Joseph (Denver)
hey svp! what's deeper; you mind or your divots?
Scott Van Pelt (1:00 PM)
I take very small divots. So it's gotta be my mind. Good one to end on! See you all next week!
ESPNRadio.com (1:00 PM)
Thanks for chatting today. Scott and Mike Tirico will be talking to Terry Bowden, Bob Knight, John Harbaugh, and Chris Fowler today on the show. You can keep chatting over at ESPNRadio.com...just click on Tirico & Van Pelt!
Robby (Augusta, GA)
I propose a trade Paul Johnson to UGA and Mark Richt to Georgia Tech........your thoughts?
Ian Johnson (Boise)
Ohio State's D? I'll run through your kitchen wall!!
stan (ohio)
ian you couldn' run your finger through toilet paper
Brian (NJ)
Will the Jets hold on and make the playoffs, and a run to the big game, or crash and burn and dissappoint yet again?
Lisa (White Hall, Md)
Looking forward to the interview with John Harbaugh
joeyfavor (bel air , ca.)
could you please explain to me ,, what grounds the nflpa has to file a grievance in respect to the giants suspending plexico..
Lisa (White Hall, MD)
Really quite today....
joeyfavor (bel air , ca.)
correct me if im wrong , but the man shot himself in a nightclub with an unregistered gun .... thats a felony ... and he is not going to be able to perform for up to 6 weeks , according to the medical staff's diagnosis from the mri results.....
ESPNRadio.com (1:17 PM)
Maybe everyone is suffering from Plaxico burnout.
Kylie (Austin)
and Plax is a total idiot...
enriquesdsualum (San Diego)
Can you ask Mr Bowden if he has interviews at SDSU?
JOEY (Bronx)
JETS= a Juncture Ending in Turmoil on Sundays
Chris (Chicgao)
joey from the bronx = moron
Joe (New Haven)
Auburn shouldn't have fired Tommy Tubs.
Kylie (Austin)
Regarding the LeBron drama... do you guys think Sir Charles is "stupid" or right?
Chris (Chicgao)
rabsolutley he is right
Brian (Virginia)
We shouldn't have to hear about LeBron's free agency until after this year's finals are over.... I'm with Chuck on this one
Chris (Chicgao)
Kylie- its like telling ur BF "I will be leaving you in a month for better looking guy who has more money than you"....Do you think he would like that?
Derek (Albany, NY)
Did you wish Britney a happy birthday on her special the other night?
Kylie (Austin)
hahaha Chris, that is a great analogy.
Bill (Atlanta)
Good Luck Tommy, Auburn (aka Lowder Community College) doesnt deserve you.
Chris (Chicago)
Anyone care about Notre Dame?
Asa (Kansas)
Notre Who?
Lisa (White Hall, MD)
Britney is still a train wreck
Kylie (Austin)
Nope
Rachel (GA)
The BF wont like it but perhaps it will get him to step it up... Clean up, work out, get a better job... The fear of losing the best thing you have going for you is powerful!
ESPNRadio.com (1:33 PM)
Many of you chatters are full of wisdom and life lessons today.
Kylie (Austin)
Then my hypothetical bf just hopped on the treadmill! :)
Chris (Chicago)
absolutley Rachel...In my opnion, LeBron belongs in Cleveland. Its a great story of the hometwon kid bringing his city to the top. Cleveland needs to step it up just like Rachel says. They are a very good team but Lebron still needs the help. If they bring another star caliber player to Cleveland then He will stay. He cant put up 30 plus night in and night out. Plus Mo Will wont be that good all year long either
Chris (Chicago)
Lots of ladies on here...love it
Asa (Kansas)
Lebron needs a quality BIG. Even MJ benefited from such greatness. Need I remind you of the unthinkable greatness of Luke Longley...Bill Wennington...and Will Purdue... If only Lebron could have such talent around him...
Rachel (GA)
I love sports and ESPN Radio. What can I say, Im the son my Dad never had!!
Kylie (Austin)
Agreed. I think it is pretty tacky on LBJ's part to be publicly flirting with his mistress at MSG while still married... At least wait until you file for divorce.
Chris (Chicago)
Oh, I remember my Midwestern friend.
Lisa (White Hall, MD)
My husband loves that I am a sports fan. He doesn't have to worry about watching football all weekend.
Kylie (Austin)
You'd think this would be impossible, but I've dated a few guys that don't like or watch football as much as I do. Just one was my equal when it came to sports.
Nate (Madison)
I'm not sure why but I always laugh when I see Northwestern playing at home. From the small gym to these guys that look like they are from some 80's movie even down to their reactions to big plays, etc.
Kylie (Austin)
speaking of... Do you think S. Avery should've been reprimanded for his "sloppy seconds" comment? Was it that bad??
Kylie (Austin)
Hook 'em (duh) and Go Pack Go Baby!!
Chris (Chicago)
the Avery comments are a joke. The guys a joke. It should be treated as a joke...laugh and move on.
ESPNRadio.com (2:01 PM)
It's been fun, folks, but we've got to go. Keep listening to Mike and Scott and we'll see you back here next week. Have a good one!
ESPNRadio.com (1:03 PM)
The conversation now carries on without Scott. Listen to the show while you continue to chat away!
Ron (Cincinnati)
Bowden said he never knew where the bar was as the more he accomplished at Arburn the higher they raised the bar. Then I watch Lou Holts talk about how they kept raising the bar on him at ND. First it was have a winning program, then it was winning them all and then it was winnning the all by a large margin.
